Reviews of Mayflower Theatre
A. C.
So far this year I've been 3 times but been going to this theatre since I was young.
It's a fantastic theatre offering a wide selection of different theatrical performances from plays to musicals to Panto and comedians.
The seats are reasonable for the quality of performance you see as well.
This is a large theatre with lots of seating but stage is medium size so pick you seats wisely.
Saying that, you'll still enjoy it sat wherever you are inside the Mayflower
D. E.
I really like this theatre, which regularly brings good shows down from London. The inside has classic theatre charm, and the acoustics are pretty good (saw Book of Mormon sitting in the stalls and it was a great audio/visual experience)
The toilets are teeny tiny though, so don’t leave it long in the intermission to queue up… or don’t get a drink before the show lol.
A. S.
Travelled from London to see Joseph at the Mayflower. Was such an amazing show, all cast were brilliant.
Staff inside the theatre were super friendly and helpful. Merchandise is fairly expensive but that's to be expected at a show unfortunately.
Beautiful theatre from 1928. Great views from pretty much every seat.
J. H.
A beautiful theatre, we had a fantastic time watching a show. Nearby parking and easy to navigate to, I would happily watch another show here! Snack bars in the theatre sell ice cream at the interval.
J. N.
Great theatre with a wide selection of seats for all levels of affordability. That being said if you're up on the balcony and someone tall sits in front of you then that's the show! Luck of the draw though so nothing on the theatre! Really nice and closed sound stage and great staff. Good experience all around.

Went to see WNO's Madame Butterfly. Front row seat. No queue. Guided to seat smoothly. Pleased to see toilets are unisex - no queue. Production started promptly and was wonderful.Nice theatre, comfortable seats. Can't fault my experience.

This was our 1st visit to the Mayflower Theatre. We got confused due to the main Mayflower theatre which is positioned on Commercial Road in Southampton. If your using a satnav then put in MAST MAYFLOWER STUDIOS or THEATRE, SOUTHAMPTON. Disabled parking is available a short walk from the theatre. There is also multi storey car parking around the area of the theatre but I don't know how far away from the theatre it is.
As you enter the foyer and proceed up the stairs, on the left is a small camera that captures your temperature and face recognition, that made us feel more relaxed about mixing with other people as covid is still a huge threat.
The bar looked to have a decent selection of drinks I.e tea, coffee, hot chocolate, beers, wine and soft drinks. Make sure you get a receipt when buying snacks and drinks as my sons card what not being accepted for contact less or chip and pin, so I paid for him and we had ended up paying twice for the same order but as we didn't get a receipt there was nothing that could be done.
The seats are comfortable and the view from Zone A, area C is a very good place to sit and you get an unobstructed view of the stage.
My family and I will definitely return to the theatre.

Worth every penny..
You wanna see a great show? Trust me, Mayflower Theatre is the place to go especially if you stay around Hampshire
Such an incredible arena with a nice ambience. It was such a nice experience.

Wonderful place, the staff was very welcoming. The stage is beautiful and with good acustic. The bar is a little small and you'll need to be 30 mins early to be able to squeeze in and enjoy your drink.

After watching a documentary featuring Carol king and learning that she is behind many great hits sung by different artist throughout the decades it was a pleasure to see her life story played out in a theatrical performance: "Beautiful The Carol king Musical."
What a show! The performance from Molly-Grace Cutler playing Carol King was especially entertaining, heartwarming and evoked much nostalgia!
Southampton is a beautiful place to visit. We loved seeing so many magnolia trees in blossom on our walks! It has an impressive very well kept city center. We suggest arrive well ahead for good parking. The Mayflower theatre is a lovely cosy venue. We were welcomed by polite staff at the door and directed to our seats which was easy to find ..The theater we felt was comfortably warm throughout until the last 10 minutes of the second act, as external doors were then being maned open.
Overall great evening and we would highly recommend this show .

Went with the wife, her sister, and mum to go see Chicago! First time seeing it and now can't get anything out of my mind! Very skimpy outfits!! 🤣 Really enjoyed myself had a lovely time, the actors are fantastic! Was nice to see a crowd of people who were enjoying themselves as well. Definitely worth a watch! All in all a great evening! 5*🥳

We went to to 'Singin' In The Rain'. WHAT A SHOW!! If you get a chance go! The cast looks like they have a lot of fun performing.
The Mayflower is a very clean venue and friendly staff.
B. C.
Great spot. Great show. Reccomending any show.
Acousticly fantastic from my seat 26V in the stalls.
Comfortable seating with great leg room. This usually get roasting during a performance. I'd wish there was more air conditioning even during winter.
R. B.
Lovely theatre. comfortable with decent leg room. Beautifully restored interior. Mainly a venue for touring musicals Monday-Saturday and stand up on Sunday.
L. K. H.
Lovely theatre, been there many many times to watch various shows, does not disappoint. Lovely location but parking is a pain. Lots of food options. If you can best to walk up from the train station
K. O.
So lucky to have this as our local theatre. Great selection of shows, comfy seats, lovely staff who dress in the theme of the show which is fun. They make the whole process of getting in and finding your seat very easy. Good views from all seats. Slightly frustrating that you can't book a single ticket if it will leave one odd seat - single people go to the theatre too! Otherwise great theatre. Highly recommended.
J. A.
Saw the Book of Mormon. It was incredible and so funny.
The venue is great, the view (Seat in Stalls O5/6) was ideal. The seats are comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful.
S. V.
What can I say ? It's good to be back! The theatre is amazing, and the show felt like magic. The staff were very friendly and always with a smile.
However, the only negative sides are the seats. They are too close to each other and are not comfortable at all.
J. L.
So very impressed with the Mayflower. Seats have been refurbished since I was last there which made a huge difference to comfort during the show.
We saw Waitress which is my favourite show anyway, but the whole experience was fab.
The staff where so friendly, smiley and chatty, made you feel so welcome.
Prices at the bar were really reasonable, especially compared to a lot of other venues.
Brilliant visit overall.
G. U.
Watched Les Mis here. Theatre was great, had a good view sat on the circle. And the play was incredible.
M. R.
Went to see a Panto....... Oh yes we did!
A lovely theatre, a fantastic show. Love it
R. R.
Our first ever visit. What a lovely theatre. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great to have the accessible entrance and facilities. Seats comfortable with good legroom. As for the show, (Les Miserables), this was absolutely first class. Will definitely be coming back to the Mayflower.
C. C.
Staff were helpful, clearer directions to the lifts would have been helpful as there were two asthmatics sat on the stairs having some issues with the journey up!
Seats are very close together and there is not much leg room, so for a larger built person or taller individual this could be an issue.
A. M.
I LOVE this theatre, it’s one of the best I’ve ever been to. Way better than most theatres in London! The raked seating in the stalls means that there isn’t really a bad seat there. Also has the benefit of free parking nearby in the evenings. Plenty of wonderful shows to see here including touring shows from London.
A. G.
This theatre is quite charming, and tonight’s performance of Les Miserables was outstanding. Being a little larger than the average bear, I find the seats quite uncomfortable, and the concept of half a row of customers having to stand up when a person in the middle needs a bathroom break mid way through the first half is highly irritating, but the Mayflower is not alone with this annoyance.
Access is reasonably good, and if you can park in the “Pay and Display” bays in the street outside, getting away without having to walk half a mile to the multi-storey car park is also a plus, but be warned, there’s no free parking otherwise!!
If you’re out for an evening at the theatre, and money isn’t an object, then the Mayflower boasts several bars, and a restaurant, but if you’re on a budget, avoid them like the plague, as the prices are rather steep!!
With very few exceptions, pretty much every seat in the house has a reasonable view of the stage, although the upper circle (balcony) is a bit of a stretch, but you can rent opera glasses for £1 a go!!
Overall, a great little theatre, and I’m being overly critical to give fair warning for the larger guest, who’s on a tight budget.
Otherwise, a great venue within easy reach of the M3 motorway !!
S. N.
My most favorite place in Southampton. Always has a great range of shows.
The staff are very helpful, even if you have been an idiot and deleted your ticket email. The mezzanine has snacks, show merch and the most important programmme with a bar and toilets if you go down to the basement area on the way to your seats.
Talking about seats they are comfortable but wouldn't want to sit for a long time. They have plenty of leg room and I've sat in most locations in the stalls and you always have a great view of the stage.
There is parking in the multi story on the road behind. At the time of writing it's free for the evening, but always check! There's a Co-op on the walk round and theres a few bars and resturants in the area too
N. C.
Rock of Ages at the Mayflower last night was absolutely brilliant! It's a great venue and the show was superb - hilarious, uplifting and just loads of fun.
M. D.
Plenty of parking in the layby next to the fish and chip shop, a little down the slope from the theatre. Pay and display until 6pm then free.
Nice to enjoy another traditional panto with the usual risqué jokes and jibes at local towns. Pompey and Gosport featured. Long may the unwokeship reign. Back next year I hope.
L. B.
Fabulous, large traditional old theatre, with raked seating. We were in the fourth row and had a great view, but I imagine it would be a good view from any seat. Can't wait to go again, and much easier/quicker journey for me than the west end!
A. C.
Went to see The curious incident of the dog in the night-time. Amazing show, and a lovely theatre. Prices for refreshments weren't crazy, but very reasonable for a theatre.
S. H.
A beautiful theatre built in 1928 at the time being the largest theatre in the south if England. With excellent performances, some straight from London's West End. I have seen many shows here, from a fabulous performance of Swan Lake, An Inspector Came to Call, to Mary Poppins and Monkey Milkshake Madness with our grandchildren. It's a stunning old theatre and it just adds to a great atmosphere every time I go.
B. C.
First vist here to see the stage version of the Peter James novel, "Looking Good Dead " The building is amazing inside, even with social distancing the space had atmosphere. The seats in the centre of the circle are comfortable, with good leg room, and good view of the whole stage. Also noticed that even the seats on the edges had a decent view of the stage too. Overall very good venue, impressed! Looking forward to the next visit, probably to see a musical!
N. C.
The staff were brilliant, we had some issues with the seating where my very tall daughter could not sut comfortably being an old theatre, staff helped and moved seats.
D. K.
Lovely theatre, I came here a few years ago to watch Miss Saigon. One of my favourite musicals. The theatre was a lovely size and had decent prices for snacks. I drove all the way from London and was really happy with everyones service.
A. R.
Lovely theatre, impressive interior. Well organised entry and exit. However, I do not like classical concerts relayed through speakers. I may as well just buy the CD. Especially, as we were, near the front and side. I could not actually hear the instruments ironically. My tiny protest was to direct my applause to the speakers and not the orchestra.
M.
Large, well run , major theatre.
But like every theatre only as good as what's on.
A few small scale musicals have been lost on the big Mayflower stage. One, designed for (literally) a theatre in a water mill , was swamped by the vast stage and auditorium.
And some of the musicals have been a bit second division companies / too many cast changes.
But the theatre is top notch!
C. A.
Visited recently to see Book of Mormon which was fantastic. Lovely big theatre with newly refurbished auditorium & comfortable chairs. Didn't try bar, snacks or toilets. If you're coming to a show on a day Southampton FC are playing at home book your dinner table in advance, we struggled to find anywhere with availability.
M. M.
Lovely theater, car park is right next door and it's free after 6 or 6.30pm, this was a great bonus. Be mindful there will be traffic when leaving, however this is to be expected. There is also a restaurant next door so if you want to wait j til traffic clears, you can stop for a drink.
S. T. S.
Fantastic performance of Les Miserables. However seating really terrible if you are tall. No leg room balcony section. Very painful on long show. Very cramped. As wooden seats in front up against shins . Need more leg room. The show itself was fantastic.
S. H.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a fantastic show, well recommended. I love the Mayflower located in the city centre of Southampton. The venue is massive with 4 floors in the theater and built in 1928. There's a vast choice of shows to choose from. I have always been going here since I was a child and I live 35 miles from Southampton...... definitely worth going! 😀
A. D.
The plays are great, staff are nice but the circle seating is impossible if you're over 5'4. Out of the four in our party, only one (5' 2") could actually fit in the seat without their knees pressing into the row in front. This meant we all had to sit sideways, so it was agonisingly uncomfortable. You shouldn't spend a great play wishing for it to be over so you can feel your legs again. I would have thought a refurbishment would take into consideration the sizes of a twenty first century audience, but sadly not.
S. D.
A large, old fashioned theater with a good atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. It mainly features West End shows touring the UK. We saw Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert. We had a very good view from the dress circle.
J. B.
Lovely, traditional theatre with top West End shows. I saw Les Miserables last night and it was spectacular. Had seats in row E of the stalls. Masses of leg room for my 6'4" frame!
M. W.
I absolutely loved the show, and it was not crowded, like it used to be, they controlled people going in alot smoother than I remember. Didn't need to panick. Staff were very friendly, and did a fantastic job. As for the show, I wanted to go again. I loved it. I think you should do a deal, if you return to see the show again, you could get half price tickets, as I couldn't afford to go twice in one week. Footloose was amazing. Thank you everyone ♥️🙌❤️
J. l.
Good legroom for a theatre, I'm 6'8 and the seats in the royal circle have enough room for me!
S. D.
Really good theatre. Pleasant staff greet you at the entrance and quickly check tickets. Only queued for a minute or so. Directed to our seats, which were easy to find. The theatre itself is decorated very tastefully and not too far from how it felt when it was the old Gaumont. Seats are comfortable and there is a good view of the stage. Didn't buy ice cream or use the bar but queues can be long in the interval. Highly recommended. Just wish there were more live music acts.
J. F.
Pros:
Interior is done nicely, it is a pleasure to be there and enjoy performances. Friendly and professional staff. Customer services are indeed there to help you and will do what they can to resolve your issue (they did it for me). All in all for a small town theatre it is a good one.
Cons:
Every time I've been there, it seems that administration allows alcohol and food to be consumed during performances. I have been to so many theatres and opera houses on the continent and there it would be an absolute no no. Might be a cultural difference (UK and the continental Europe) but it leaves a bad impression on me. Last performance I went to was a nightmare. - people were noisy, eating, talking all the time, drinking and getting drunk - disgusting. It's OK for a night club but not a reputable theatre.
R. C.
Fantastic theatre with a wide range of touring shows including many West End productions. Several large bars inside, close to the station and plenty of nearby parking and pre dinner bars/restaurants. Have sat in all three levels which have decent seats, legroom and views, but like any theatre the more you pay the better the view.
D. M.
Went to see footloose as a suprise here at the Mayflower. OmG 😲 it was amazing.
Brilliant music,voices and storytelling.
Staff as always helpful and smart looking. First show since pandemic hit, was uplifting and funny. Well done mayflower your back.
l. k.
Absolutely buzzing after his lively amazing show. The whole audience were on their feet. Up there with Les Mis. and I got an autograph at the stage door as my daughter was in hospital and could not go. They made me feel they really cared. will go again.
V. G.
Went to the Mayflower today to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - what an amazing production. Truly superb cast and the kids were total superstars. Theatre is lovely, very friendly staff with a decent sized bar and plenty of toilets. Found the refreshments reasonably priced, compared to what you would pay in the West End. Plus good parking close by. Great day out!
d. h.
Really quick and easy entry so hardly any time wasted queuing outside. Guides direct you to your Seats and we had a good view even in row W.
Excellent interval ice cream (if a little expensive- but no more than you would expect )
Easy to exit back onto the street
Only complaint is the music was very very loud ( or am I getting old)
But even though it’s not a cheap night out with tickets for 3 costing £150, it was a fabulous show and with it being a smallish theatre, you really feel close enough to the stage to really interact with the actors. Fabulous
A. L.
Love this theatre . The show was absolutely amazing. Seats comfortable. Love that they look after it inside and out . Can't wait to go back . Glad to eat my favourite ice cream I have ginger spice everytime I go
R. B.
Wonderful auditorium, but seats aren't very comfy and leg room is poor. Inadequate toilets.
D. B.
Last night of Les Miserables at the Mayflower in Southampton and it was sensational. Very strong cast and brilliant cinematography enhancing the clever props. The six minutes standing ovation said it all.
D. W.
Me and the wife had the privilege of seeing Alan Carr last night and he was absolutely brilliant. But its a shame it couldn't be said for our seats, they were so uncomfortable and I felt crushed. I'm not a tall bloke only 5ft 10 and of medium build but I couldn't move in my seat it was awful. It was only by the grace of god that the 2 seats next to me and my wife were empty that we then turned sideways to watch the show. My wife also couldn't move. As I watch the many people come into the show all me and the wife could think of is my god there going to struggle to get comfortable like us and it was true. Such a shame as it will deter us from booking a show for fear of having horrible seats.
L. H.
We Love the mayflower. Its just Like being in a big London theatre.easy access just 4 mins from train station
M. B.
Old and full of character. Seats quite comfortable and leg space good. Facilities good (and no long queue)Staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyed evening. Definitely visit again.
C. W.
Big theatre that is easy to get to
Nice bar areas, foyer etc but like all theatres of that age seating is snug, and toilets minimal. Great range of shows laid on here
G. W.
First visit back to the Mayflower since pre-lockdown, thoroughly enjoyed Joseph in this lovely theatre. Always well supported leading to a great atmosphere. Seats well tiered to ensure good view of the stage. Staff always helpful and fairly good Covid measures in place.
G. S.
Just awesome, went to see Bat out of Hell.
It's just so good.
S. S.
First time visit to a theatre for over 2 years. Very easy to get into the foyer but quite cramped waiting to get in to our seats. Really enjoyed the whole experience though
C. C.
My daughter and I saw the show last evening and it was amazingi. Added to this the staff at the disabled entrence were fanatastic. So helpful and caring and they made it such a pleasure to be there, from when we went through the door to when they took us to our seats. A BIG thank you to all concerned
C. M.
We have visited the Mayflower regularly over many years.
Our latest visit was for The Da Vinci Code in April 2022.
E-mailed joining instructions indicated the need to allow time for entry as bags would be searched - 2 out of 3 door staff were checking bags, 1 didn't do so. Question - why are bags being searched anyway?
Staff were helpful, as always, and entry took no time at all.
As has been commented elsewhere, toilets are surprisingly small for such a large venue - a queue at a gents is unusual, but occurred before the start and at the interval.
The view from some seats is a bit restricted for productions of this type, with actors and artwork on the side walls of the stage visible from central seats but limited from the sides.
Enjoyed our evening, as always, as we selected our seats carefully.
A. C.
Always love a bit of rocky horror at the theatre but more recently saw the Da Vinci Code and Joseph. Incredible shows by superb cast members. Shows at mayflower never fail to impress
E. K.
Great show as always
This time
Singin' in the rain
R. B.
Excellent show as always.
Seats had a good view.
The queue wasn't too long at the bar during the interval. Staff were friendly and helpful when we couldn't find our seat.
J. D. J.
Enjoyed our evening at the Mayflower , Joseph as always brilliant ! Theatre itself was clean , comfortable seating and added since my last vist hand rails at the end of each aisle , making it much easier for anyone with a mobility problem .
A. G.
A beautiful theatre that has all the top shows.
Set in Southampton city centre with plenty of parking in the surrounding area, which presently, is free after 6pm.
You can book to eat here before during & after or just have an ice-cream during the interval.
We’re so lucky to have top West End shows played out here.
r. n.
Well, what can I say about Joseph which I had the privilege of seeing tonight. It was the very best production of this outstanding musical I have ever seen. Let's start with Alexandra Burke. I have never seen a narrator as the lead and such an integral part of the production. She acted, sang and danced her socks off and her pregnancy impeded her not one visible jot but I really hope she has her feet up now! An incredibly talented woman. Jac Yarrow was a wonderful Joseph and beautifully contrasted the temporary changes in his character whilst moving and singing so gracefully and powerfully. And Jason in Vegas, oops I mean Egypt - what an introduction, what a set, what terrific support from the gorgeous girls who, like Jason, played it tongue in cheek. He was the consumate pro, owing the stage and playing with and to the crowd. Gorgeous legs btw not to mention the voice. The male ensemble, Joseph's brother were of the highest standard, dancing, leaping incredible heights, singing so well and with feeling whilst also being comedic, toying with a hugely receptive audience. The females were also amazingly talented too with great rhythm and sooo supple. The children were so talented too and I suspect we have seen the debut of future stars. The orchestra was so full of energy and emotion and once again, teeming with talent, the set, you have to see it to appreciate it, absolutely inspired and the choreography eye catching and clever and the costumes out of this world. The lighting was superb too and loved the surprises at the end. Won't spoil it for you but try and get a ticket if you can although the theatre was full tonight. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Thank you to everyone involved. Our spirits were souring as we left the theatre jiving in the aisles.
p.
Great traditional theatre.Just remember first eight rows are on the flat so difficult to see stage floor.Better view further back.Easy to get to and parking in the train station is £3.50 after 4pm.Plenty of restaurants near the theatre though not cheap. The Mayflower Village pub is good for drinks and cheaper food.
r. i.
I had a wonderful experience there, I was not prepared for it but I was glad I went in for the show.
K. M.
Pleasantly surprised as our nearest theatres before locating to Southampton, were in the Westend of London. Very happy that Southampton has a gem of theatre and will definately be visit loads more. Carole King's 'Beautiful' was brilliant
C. H.
Beautiful theatre. Love going to the Mayflower. Facilities are all clean a readily available, apart from the usual queue at the ladies during the interval 🤣
M. G.
Les mis tonight, fantastic had a great time. Go and see it!
M. T.
We are so lucky to have this theatre locally with amazing shows. Staff are always friendly and courteous and we always have a great night when we come here.
K. P.
Lovely theatre to see a show. Cannot complain, staff are friendly, the place is clean and the seats are comfortable which allow a good view of the stage.
A. W.
We visit the Mayflower theatre regularly and everything from the booking process through to the greeting on arrival is always first class. The service in the circle bar is always efficient and the theatre refit has made it an absolute pleasure to visit.
M. S.
We always love to visit the Mayflower theatre, friendly helpful staff, if it was a bit cheaper we would go more often. We saw Cluedo, it was fun and the ending was a surprise.
R. T.
Absolutely lovely. Stunning interior. We saw Singing in the Rain and I have to admit.. it was the best thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing
N. R.
Went to watch Joseph and it was amazing, it's an amazing theatre and it's easy to get to. The set's and the sounds are superb, can't wait to go again.
C. T.
Liked the refit, but the seat leg room is still only suitable for the 1928 ... smaller people. Greatest show ever ( Les Miserabes) but so uncomfortable.
C. C.
Beautiful old theatre but looking a little tired. Little leg room as of old and fixtures and fittings look as though they need a clean, especially from upstairs.
H. H.
We have been a few times to see shows here and love coming. Nice environment to watch some great big named shows.
A. P.
Really nice old theatre, helpful staff. Not much space for legs due to seat row spacing but as I said it's an old building .We saw Joseph and the technicolor dreamcoat which was amazing.not a lot of parking nearby,we parked in train station carpark which needs paying by app as no money machines.
P. H.
I was at the Mayflower theatre to see the German comic Henning Wehn. The theatre was very clean and the staff extremely helpful.
With the Theatre close to the train station it is very easy to visit for the many and diverse shows that the theatre puts on
P. C.
Great venue, and all the shows have been excellent. Last night was Singing in the Rain, amazing performance.
W. S. (. W.
We enjoyed the shows very much.
We had bags searched once but other than that we just walked in.
The Staff in the foyer and the auditorium were most helpful.
m. c.
Bat out of hell, very talented cast on vocals and dancing.
Awesome show, would highly recommend 👌
B. R.
Lovely venue, great show, but poor toilet facilities, simply not enough for the size of the audience
S. G.
Great West end style theatre without the London hassle. Easy drinks service & interval orders.
P. M.
Brilliant night with comedian connoisseur Jimmy Carr
T. L.
Lovely theatre. Good seats, plenty of staff who were very helpful.
M. K.
Love this theatre. So easy to get to by car or train. You can park cheaply just across the road.
R. C.
Brilliant venue for the Best of John Williams. Not too big so even the cheap seats have a good view.
J. J.
Theatre but a smallish one and very pleasant. Seats comfortable and good vision from near the back.
A.
Brilliant, we are so lucky to have such a wonderful theatre on our doorstep. Amazing shows, something for everyone.
P. H.
Was amazing, if you can get over the price you will love it, the atmosphere is delightful, going here will be one of the best nights of your life I promise you. Production value for theatre is amazing and is a true masterpiece.
Great night and a great place
Photos of mayflower when les miserables was on when I whent down below
H.
I've been watching performances here for years!
The reason that it's 4 stars and not 5 is because not every time I go, is it clean. Sometimes, spilt achohol is left on the floor.
K. F.
Three of us saw The Book of Mormon here on 21.2.22 and had great seats in the middle of row F in the stalls. Our only concern was that despite an announcement, before curtain up, for people to wear masks unless they were exempt, the overwhelming majority did not (and the performance was a sell-out - every seat occupied). Now that the pandemic emergency laws have been repealed and we will have to start paying for LFTs from 1.4.22, it would be good if theatres made mask-wearing a booking condition.
L. D.
Saw everyone's talking about Jamie. Great show. The Mayflower itself is clean, seats are comfy and view of the stage seems pretty good from most areas. We were row t right on the left hand side and could see well. Sound was a little off for the first few minutes of opening number but sorted quickly. As always in these places drinks and snacks a bit more pricey but not over the top as some. Plenty of staff showing you around etc, and toilets are clean
J. K.
Enjoyed a good performance. We had seats in the balcony which meant going up 86 steps then down some more to our seats. The atmosphere was lovely even with all those who could wearing masks. It was good to see the sunflower lanyard someone else was wearing respected without comment.
S. G.
Beautiful theatre, beautiful plays :)
C. S.
Fantastic "Bat out of Hell" Don't like gender neutral toilets. Men in there were laughing and chatting in the cubicles.
J. B.
Absolutely brilliant. Theatre is lovely. Place is spotless.
Staff were so helpful. As I booked tickets but my hubby couldn't go so had to take my mum..who is petrified of heights( we had balcony seats) I spoke to a member of staff who was brilliant and moved us lower down the theatre.
L. M.
Love this theatre - gets great touring shows and a fab venue in general
A. C.
A spectacular theatre that attracts all the major touring productions. Last visited on 6 January 2022 to see 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie'. The staff are very professional and friendly, and prices are as expected really (drinks are expensive but not extortionate). I've only docked a star because they're running at full capacity at the height of a Covid outbreak, and the only control is recommending face masks.
N. W.
Brilliant venue! Absolutely love the mayflower and the shows that they hold! Just been to see Priscilla and it great! Seating was comfortable, spacious and plenty of toilets around!
R. P.
I have visited the Mayflower only since its refurbishment, but it is an absolutely gorgeous theatre with a massive auditorium. The decor is lovely, with lots of deep reds and polished brass. I have seen three shows here - Comedy About a Bank Robbery, John Williams v Hans Zimmer, and Matilda - and haven't had a bad seat view-wise. I have been in the circle twice, and the balcony once - the only slightly uncomfortable seat was in the rear circle due to reduced leg room (I'm 6ft) - it was an aisle seat, but I still struggled a bit.
On my visit for John Williams v Hans Zimmer, I was on crutches, so was able to make use of the lift that serves all floors, and the steps up and down the circle were not too steep.
If ever you are tempted to take the stairs to the balcony, don't - they go on forever! - use the lift instead!
Edit: most people park in the multi-storey car park behind the theatre which is fine, but you will likely struggle when it comes to leaving as the queue is usually horrendous. There is also parking a short walk at the railway station, which I find is easier.
H. T.
Despite being asked on the website and in the theatre no one wore a mask. Only one bar open so very crowded and slow service, not good. Why should we have to choose between going to the bar or using the loos during the interval ?
We were in the upper balcony and couldn't see any signs for a bar so had to decend tons of steps to find one open. None of which would be a problem, stairs are fine, however you are not given enough time during the interval.
When we left I noticed an employee in the balcony but no one during the interval for guidance.
Perhaps you were short staffed due to Covid, in which case please can you put signs up pointing to the bar!
A. A.
Well managed sensible covid precautions.
Great show. Cheerful staff
K. E.
Everything lived up to the publicity! Theatre clean, staff responsive and helpful, looking forward to next visit.
L. T.
I totally adore this theatre. Recently refurbished including a disabled loo that now has disabled adult fascilities including a hoist. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Personally, I love the ballet with live orchestra. Would recommend a theatre tour (Saturday mornings). Go behind the scenes. Membership available that gives priority booking, discounted tickets and 10% off at the bar.

Beautiful theatre! You really get a feeling of grandeur when sitting in your seat and looking up at the magical ceiling. There is a carpark within walking distance, very convenient.
M. B.
We went to see The Book of Mormon at the Mayflower and it was absolutely fantastic. Particularly liked that the whole show was captioned on screens for those who are hard of hearing. A brilliant day out.
S. S.
We went to the mayflower theatre in southampton to see Grease and were bowled over by the performance of all the cast of the show absolutely brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed it.loved it.
J. N.
A beautiful theatre which shows a wide variety of shows and performances. Lovely vintage seating and beautifully decorated throughout.
The auditorium is well laid out and you never feel crammed in. The toilets are of adequate number and spotlessly clean.
The theatre sports a well stocked bar with a choice of glass or plastic vessels, depending in whether you wish to take your drink into the auditorium or not.
The staff are all friendly, welcoming and helpful and it's a delight to see a performance at this beautiful theatre.
M. S.
One of the UK's finest theatres! If you are in Southampton and have the time - book a ticket to see anything here! Beautiful building inside. Great, old fashioned British atmosphere. Staff are are always very friendly and helpful. Love it!
P. W.
Saw Lion, Witch & Wardrobe. Excellent production & set design. I honestly don't pretend to be a theatre critic, but this was certainly enjoyable.
The theatre itself is a fine venue, with easy parking & road/rail access.
Not a grumble against the Mayflower in particular and there are obviously economics involved, but I do do look forward to theatres catching up with cinemas for seating. The stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap (?) approach that dates from the Roman amphitheatre needs to be reviewed to allow a bit of civilised comfort...
M. S.
Excellent great venue, friendly staff. Clean and covid conscious without being overbearing. Lots of choice for pre or post show eating. Looking forward to going there again.
J. H.
As my local theatre I've always loved the Mayflower. The redecorated main auditorium is just breathtaking and grand. Seats are still very small and uncomfortable for long shows but that is standard across most old theatres
D. D.
Have attended over many years and have loved the respect and consideration given to its refurbishment. Good visibility, comfortable seats, a great variety of shows, as well as opportunities for youth such as Engage.
L. D.
Came here to see a Cinderella panto this year - it was pretty entertaining, with lots of magic tricks and very funny too. However, the seats were quite uncomfortable, and the staff weren't so helpful in the days leading up to the show where we had a corona scare and thought we might not be able to go
D. B.
Haven't ivisited yet but the box office staff are absolutely fantastic
P. H.
Absolutely amazing athmosphere from a relatively old Building.
Very well organised and beautifully maintained. And 2 well serviced bars 1 upstairs and one downstairs. Not cheap, But far from expensive...
Only downsides are
No onsite parking. But 2 decent sized multi storey car parks an easy 5 minute walk.
As a taller human (6"7') it was a little tight but the end of row seat was comfortable never the less.
X. G.
Went to see Book of Mormon which was absolutely brilliant. Theatre is a really lovely venue although marked down for four stars for the frankly astronomical bar and ice cream prices.
S. B.
Balcony Row A seat 18 good view, able to lean forward if u cant quite see. Kids can see better with a cushion. Fabulous show Bednobs and broomsticks
L. D.
Went here to see The Book of Mormon. Lovely theatre, incredibly clean. Staff are very friendly. Food and drink very reasonably priced for theatre prices.
D. S.
Loved my first visit to Mayflower theatre last night! Excellent venue, great staff, clean toilets. Can't wait to come back!
B. M.
Great shows in a traditional but local venue. There's almost a family atmosphere to the place, with the staff always coming across as friendly and helpful.
J. j.
I cannot speak highlyenough of the wonderful customer service at the Mayflower. I was sad at having to cancel tickets for the Book of Mormon because of COVID. I was immediately offered a full refund via a gift card.
By contrast the theatre in Torquay is run by the ATG group who score zero for customer service
S. C.
Always excellent performances at this theatre. Staff are really helpful and polite. Having been here many times I've yet to have a bad experience.
D. M.
Just seen Cinderella and it was brilliant. My kids also loved it and the Mayflower is a lovely venue. Congrats to all staff there on providing top flight entertainment and a nice enviroment to watch it in!
E. M.
Everytime I get the pleasure of visiting the mayflower I am never disappointed. The building itself is beautiful, the staff are always friendly and helpful, the shows are just 10/10 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
I. W.
Lovely theatre, so beautiful and clean. Staff were absolutely amazing. Loved the performance. So good to be back in the theatre again.
A. K.
Very freindly staff nice seating would of been nice to eat there
R. H.
Have been here a few times to watch a variety of different shows. Lovely theatre and even nicer now it’s be renovated. Staff are a delight. One time we came for dinner and a show but couldn’t watch the show and had to leave because of a family emergency. They offered us tickets to a different show free of charge, which they in no way had to do. Have sat in most areas and so far all offer a great view. So if there’s a show you want to see this is a lovely venue to enjoy it in.
M. P.
Great experience, went to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which was excellent, the theater is also a great location situated near several carparks (some of which don't charge if you arrive after 6pm)
E. T.
Went to see blood brothers and it was amazing lovely theatre nice stage great seating
E.
Lovely theater, my first time there despite having lived locally for decades. Well definitely be going back
B. G.
Went to see The Book of Mormon. Was absolutely fantastic.
First time I've been here in a few years the money they put in to doing it up is well spent. Staff are friendly.
c. s.
Lovely theatre.. Great performance of singing in the rain
N. F.
Clean and comfortable, surprisingly short queues for bar and toilets. Thoroughly enjoyable evening
C. L.
The Book of Mormons. Amazing talent on display. Energetic and entertaining; impressive skills and talent are unmistakable. Giggles and laughter abound at the cast's comical exhibition of double entendre, irony and parody. Prodigious!!!
P. W.
Newly renovated, looks fantastic. Easy to get in and seats were great
m. b.
Our first visit to this theatre and the staff and the show were excellent. We were very impressed with the whole experience and look forward to another visit soon.
L. b.
A great theatre in the centre of Southampton hosting a wide variety of shows and experiences. Very fancy inside and staff are always lovely!
L. C.
Visited for Book of Mormon.. great show!
Seats in Balcony are very tight on leg room.
If looking for somewhere to eat and drink consider Bedford Place . About a 5 min walk away . Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from... Japanese, Portuguese, Piecarumba, Irish bar, Smugglers, Cricketers and a few more that I can't recall. Also a Sainsbury's Local.
T. L.
What a great venue
Wonderful theater gor all occasions
Thank you 😊
G. M.
Great theatre - but let down by having 2 gents toilets & no urinals. A joke of a queue at interval - they really need to sort this out. Basics....
T. H.
Fantastic theatre and the recent paint job has really added to the prestige of the venue.
M. C.
Just watched Jimmy Carr. Remembering the days of "unwokeness" 😂😂 Loved it in great historic venue. Loads of great shows coming up soon soon also 👍
H. J.
Watching Anton du Beke and Erin Boag was a fantastic experience, thoroughly enjoyable. Getting out of the car park afterwards however was not so enjoyable. It took over half an hour.
m. s.
First of all, we would like to give a huge thankyou to the box office, we arrived for Les Miserables thursday 24 march 2022, only to realise our tickets were for the 23rd, they kindly reseated us, very good seats, the show was absolutely amazing, we had the most amazing time ever, this was part of our wedding treat, so once again, thankyou so much to the very kind and friendly staff at the Mayflower theatre,
Mickey & Lisa from Islington.
M. B.
Wonderful musical artistes' enormous talent in a beautiful venue; facilities fabulous too; parking outside easy and located in close proximity to train stations & cabs
Well worth going 😊❤
R. J.
Joseph and his amazing technicolor dream coat, excellent show kept us entertained from the start to the end, it's good theatre is back.
N. R.
Lovely theatre, small but gives an intimate feeling. Staff were friendly and enough toilets that the interval queue was not too baf
N. L.
Great place easy to get to. Efficient service. Bar area clean and tidy. Not the best toilets upstairs but clean.
J. W.
Brilliant performance at usual. Lovely helpful staff . We all enjoyed, can't wait for next visit x
P. W.
Great place to catch a good show, seats in the balcony need a little more leg room in my opinion.
K. S.
We spent a fantastic evening at the Mayflower theatre in Southampton - went to see Kinky Boots. The theatre itself is lovely. The staff are extremely efficient. The theatre was spotless & the seats were comfortable with plenty of legroom . Well worth the 2hr drive!
R. N.
A congratulations to all the cast of Les Miserable. Amazing performance from the main characters with amazing support from the rest of the cast. A truly fantastic experience.
l. p.
Lovely theatre, staff all very friendly and helpful, had a lovely evening, great performances by all the cast of Les Miserables
C. T.
Generally nice theatre. The Balcony is a long way UP... and quite a few people weren't liking the height!!! The seats are very small and not the most comfortable. If you want to eat before the show, book somewhere - they get packed!!!
Other than that the acoustics are pretty good.
S. J.
The seats have very little leg room if you are a taller person
J. B.
Beginning to fill up nicely..
watched a production of les miserables
V. B.
Great food and lovely atmosphere. The grounds are perfect for kids as there is a dedicated play area. New outside pizza oven and the pizzas are very tasty. Our now favourite pub.
C. S.
Saw Footloose last Tuesday, was absolutely brilliant
R. G.
Great production of Joseph and the tdc.
Superb high quality performance in fantastic surroundings. Will definitely go again!!!
R. R.
Ladies toilets are disgusting in the theatre bit, but actual theatre clean and seats comfy and enjoyed the show
R. F.
Wonderful place to spend an evening. Staff incredibly helpful and kind, especially helpful with the disabled. Drinks are expensive but that's to be expected. Seats are comfortable even for larger people (I'm 6ft 4" and have been uncomfortable elsewhere but find the mayflower seating comfortable for 2 hours or so). Plenty of restaurants nearby for a bite to eat as well.
S. Y.
Fabulous building with great productions, something for everyone, all the staff are lovely even if not all patrons are nice to them.
C. C.
Great theatre, can guarantee a great view almost anywhere you're sat
M. T.
Lovely to see the theatre busy again. Oh and note there is no cloakroom any more.
W. M.
We saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. We sat in the bacony.High up but a good view.
C. W.
Great venue, even though up in gallery still had good views & sound was still clear.
G. C.
A little to Hi Tech ,we all missed the amateur feel was more like a show with a very weak story line. Was very well done but lost the Panto feel.
T.
Went to see Dara O'brien and he was amazing. We were up on the balcony a couple rows from the back and we had an amazing view of the whole stage. My friend is only small, so the tiered back seats really helped her to have a great view too. He was amazing
E.
Smooth process, helpful staff, clean and comfortable theatre
S. W. C.
Great theatre! Although not that smart and not very clean, it makes for a wonderful atmosphere and is very fairly priced. The one negative thing that I would say is that at the beginning and end of the play when getting in and out, it gets a little too packed and younger children can get squished easily due to little room
A. B.
Quite a large theatre with a well organised system, helpful staff and a very quick exit system at the end of the night.
D. A.
We went to see Cinderella this evening and it was AMAZING we found it so funny. The most enjoyable panto I have ever been to. Looking forward to booking again next year.
D. R.
Brilliant didn't have to wait to get in Brilliant show well worth it
P. G.
Fabulous theatre. Saw the great man there on Sunday evening. Friendly staff. Comfortable seats unrestricted views. Loved it
J. T.
Really enjoyed the pantomime at the Mayflower. The staff were friendly and polite, checking bags as we entered. Most people wore masks but quite a few took them off during the performance.
s. h.
Lovely evening and staff very helpful. Enjoyed ourselves from the moment we arrived until we left. Great assistance for our disabled member and couldn't do enough for us.
T. W.
It's awsome it's southampton and it's the best place to seea show.
z. s.
Christmas pantomime is what puts this theatre on the map!!! Thoroughly enjoyable experience for everyone aged 2 to 102!! Plenty of famous faces, covid safe and nearby parking
J. H.
Saw 9 to 5. Brilliant and a much funnier show than I expected. I thought it would be good.... however exceeded my expectations. Brilliant comic timing. Theatre is lovely and always happy to watch shows here, they have so many amazing West End touring shows coming up. Delighted you are open again, just wish you could insist on mask wearing, although I know that is not possible.
S.
Saw panto on New Years Eve.Sheer class. Richard Cadell must be the best " Buttons "there is - certainly the most energetic! Still trying to work out his magic tricks and I've seen them before.Fair play to Debbie Magee too for getting involved in the "If I was not in Pantomime" sketch. Well done all.
L. K.
Had a great session at Mayflower Movers yesterday at the MAST. Recommend to anyone.
B. S.
A fabulous night out at Footloose. What a fantastic cast and show. Don't miss it!!!
R. M.
Wonderful theatre, so much character and hosts a wonderful selection of Broadway productions. The main theatre is beautiful with period ceilings etc. Also unlike other theatres you can almost guarantee a good view no matter where you are sat in the stalls or most of the circle, even if you're short like me you can always see.
S. M.
Beautiful building that I've used since my early teens. Show was brilliant
J. R.
The theatre is very nice with cosy seating but not too compact that you feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of stairs but lifts are available. Once you have your seat, be sure to find your nearest toilet before the show starts. This can save a lot of time during the break.
M. H.
Very well Organised ...staff we vert polite absolutely no problems
P. S.
A pleasing evening with friendly staff and a wonderful show only downside lacking in merchandise
J. K.
Cinderella was brilliant!! Have not laughed so much in ages. Great cast that really entertained us. Fantastic panto!
N. C.
Great old theatre easy to get to place's to eat nearby and parking
L. C.
Went to see the Elvis Tribute Artist World Tour and it was a brilliant night. Great seats with a perect view right at the back, helpful friendly staff which made for a relaxed evening. Only fault I could find was very expensive refreshments so worth buying before going in elsewhere.
P. S.
Having been to the Mayflower on many occasions (and loved it) on this occasion we visited the Ovations restaurant for a 3 course meal and Only Fools & Horses comedy show. What a fabulous evening - nicely prepared food and exceptional entertainment. Parking also nearby. A night to remember.
V. K.
Simply a fantastic theatre
A. H.
The Mayflower is a lovely venue with a mix of classical architecture and modern conveniences. It has changed a good deal since I last came in relation to the services offered but retains the original beauty of this historic building. There is a small cafe/bar area downstairs and vending machines manned by staff in the foyer. One criticism is that the merchandise area was small and limited and as expected rather pricey. I appreciate they need to make money but £2 for a biro and £10 for a not terribly appealing mug is taking the Mickey.
Overall though The Mayflower is a real treat and has some fabulous shows
C. L. M.
The Pundits....great show! really enjoyed hearing the football stories from 5 great names from Gillette Soccer Special . Jeff Stelling, Paul Merson, Phil Thompson Charlie Nicholas & Matt Le Tissier
d. s.
Watched The Book of Mormon. Shockingly brilliant musical, extremely funny. Hugely talented cast.
P. N.
Great venue, great staff highly recommended.
J. M.
What a great theatre! Haven't been for so long, really impressed with how it's all run. Helpful and friendly staff too!
M. M.
Great theatre and show, the only problem is the seats are very tight - my knees were crushed
C. C.
Really welcoming staff, fantastic performance of GROAN UPS and the students absolutely loved it - great first experience of a professional theatre.
P. H.
Watched a great performance of les Miserables. Comfortable theatre and excellent views of the stage.
L. S. L. P.
Great show. Well looked after..
M.
Really good experience with cinderella pantomime. Loved it, didn't expect it to be soooo good!!
C. H.
Went to show on 18th dec, great show, but first half ruined by noisy people behind, had to move seats, just shut up noisy folks, some people actually want to watch the show!! Staff ineffectual.
N. W.
Visited tonight 08.01.22. Great show. All protocols in place by the establishment and well adhered to by the public. It was 100% as well controlled as anywhere can be in these current times. 😁👍
d. j.
Lovely theatre. Had excellent seats. Recommend The Book of Mormon
C. D.
Mischief Theatre's "Groan Ups" was fantastic.
The theatre is a nice old place - a good example of an early 20th century theatre.
A. L.
It's a theatre, nuff said. However, given that the theatre asked you to wear a facemask, less than 10% did and no reminders from staff. Good show though, well priced and easy parking
D. H.
Great theatre to see London shows when on tour. Good views even in cheapest seats. Didn't feel very covid safe though as hardly any mask wearing and no ventilation.
D. A.
Booked for Riverdance as a birthday treat for my mum 18 months ago and finally got to see the show. What a fantastic experience, the dancer where unbelievable. Only gripe is that upon arrival there was supposed to be a bag check and temp check. Neither was carried out. Did not fill either of us with confidence. Please do as you say in your email to make people feel safe.
R. B.
We were sat in the Balcony for the Sarah Millican show. Well, that was a long way up. First time in the balcony, makes the theatre look a lot bigger than I ever though. Sound was good and still a good view. Not so good if you don't like height I guess. Show was great. First time in a crowd since lock down and it was very busy. Being packed in WA a bit unnerving.
J. O.
Went to see the Greatest Showman Sing Along, staff were helpfull in directing us to our seats and we were able to sit safely in the Lounge before hand, instead of being out in the crowds. Had a few hiccups and show started late but apart from that a very enjoyable experience.
Thankyou
A. W.
Went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show and it was really good. Didn't know Ore Odoba could sing but he was brilliant, as was all the cast. The theatre asked people to wear their masks even though it was after all restrictions had been lifted but around us not many did. They also asked people to remain seated at the end until a member of staff directed them to leave, but again not many did. At least the social distance seating worked.
K. M.
Visited this theatre for the first time Saturday to watch Riverdance. It was amazing to watch and the atmosphere was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. Even though there were signs recommending you still wear a mask many people weren't wearing them and we were all very close. I hope this doesn't create an increase in covid cases. I wore my mask to protect myself and others.
A. Y.
Great night out at the ballet. Beautiful production in our lovely historic Southampton theatre.
R. T.
Had a wonderful afternoon here today watching the Jersey Boys. A great music filled show in a lovely theatre. This is the second show we have seen here. We came several years ago to see We Will Rock You. Again another great musical treat
S. T.
5Star Private Hire (Andover) have assisted many clients too and from this amazing theatre
A. L.
Enjoyable show. Saw show from balcony. Might be difficult for people with disability. 85 steps to arena
J. D.
Gorgeous theatre, went too see Priscilla Queen of the desert. Excellent production.
s. b.
Lovely theatre, very nice crew had a lovely day's work thank you
S.
It was fabulous well thought out & organised. The panto was fantastic a great cast & story line. Thank you for a great time.
V. H.
For a provincial theatre the Mayflower is just fabulous! Spectacular shows play here with magical sets and effects, as well as some really great acts, and the theatre is beautiful inside. Love it! (Only complaint is legroom - the seating rows are designed for dwarfs!!!!)
C. G.
Saw dragons and mythical beasts this afternoon with my 5 year old and she loved it. Great family fun.
P. B.
Great atmosphere...Nice staff ...Great show ...always a pleasure to visit here
C. P.
Les Miserables! Was absolutely fantastic. What a great afternoon we have had. Would recommend this to everyone! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😀
D. H.
Beautiful theatre, friendly and helpful staff. Great venue to visit. Went to see the Christmas panto cinderella, great show. Really enjoyed the experience
W. B.
Lovely evening with a great atmosphere
T. P.
Only as good as the show your watching. Balcony seats are good but you do feel like you will knee the person in front of you in the head when they move (didn't but they got close). Signage for the balcony was non existent on the left side, there were hidden stairs.
D. C.
So good to be back watching amazingly talented people performing in a beautiful theatre.
Les Miserables, 🎭👏👏❤️
M. T.
Brilliant performance of Book of Mormon. Great seats cast each excellent and show was superb
e.
Watched Book of Mormon, fantastic show. Had seats in the stalls, legroom was very good.
K. L.
Southampton is so lucky to have a great theatre like this. Seating up to 2,300 you're guaranteed a great atmosphere in a traditionally decorated theatre that wouldn't be out of place in the West End. Some top flight productions are on their listing so bound to be something to entertain you.
G. C.
Went to see '6'. Great play, cheap tickets, easy to get to. Stairs to balcony are VERY high though. Nit good if difficulty walking or breathing as no lift. Seats a little close as I'm only 5'11" and my legs were cramped in an awkward position.
E. K.
Beautifully restored theatre with good stage view and comfortable seats.
O. R.
Well organised venue, no queuing. Good seating with lots of exits. Sound was fantastic 👌
M. D.
Been here many times, this was the first since lockdown.
The show was amazing as you would expect. It was busy but manageable. Queues were very little or rather quick.
Sadly booster seats weren't available so I had to make one out of coats for my daughter.
J. T.
Love this theatre. Good views from seats, friendly staff.
j. w.
Amazing theatre! Great performance! Went to see "everybody's talking about Jamie" and wow!
K. H.
Love visiting this theatre. Always stunning shows and lovely hosts.
J. W.
A brilliant theatre which has a great variety of touring shows which come here year after year
N. T.
Lovely theatre, staff and location. Usual overpriced sweets and bar...
M.
Went to see 'Waitress' - not my first visit to this lovely theatre, and most definitely won't be my last!
S.
Great to be back again last night to see a great play. Live theatre is so good.
Good social distancing in place..sadly meant for a smaller audience, but all done sensibly and politely.
No food at moment but bar open with limited stock.
K. F.
Shows are great, ice cream and sweets and drinks too expensive get your goodies at pound land before hand.
A. 0.
Fantastic theatre with a good turn over of top rated shows! Ample parking in the multistorey car park at the rear of the theatre. Staff are friendly and helpful, lovely clean theatre :-)
L. K.
Absolutely brilliant performance, loved every minute of it, voices were fabulous 👌 👏
L. T.
Good to get the big West End shows close to home. Shame they aren't around for more than a few days
A. O.
Lovely theatre. Great performance if The Book of Morman. X
N. R.
Saw Rocky Horror Show. Brilliant atmosphere. Croud was amazing. I didn't dress up but if you've ever seen the film, you'll love it. Dom Jolley, Duncan James and for me the star of the show was Joanne Clifton who played Janet. Just Brilliant!
b. b.
Beautiful theatre. Visited to watch a production of bed knobs and broomsticks. Smoothly ran and solid covid protocols..
M. R.
An amazing venue, to see an amazing show, The Bodyguard.
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and we are looking forward to our next visit.
S. T.
Another amazing show, we come every year and always feel like we get our moneys worth!
Comedy for the adults and our four kids whose ages range from 14 to 9.
P. W.
Cinderella was very entertaining and funny. The Mayflower is accessible and their staff welcoming. A very enjoyable start to Christmas.
S. F.
Always a great show, been may times to different productions.
H. N.
Lovely theatre, staff are always helpful and polite. Never a bad experience
M. P.
We had a great time it was lovely to go to a show again very safe well organized with social distance
J. B.
So good to be back at the theatre and enjoyed even though we had to wear masks on a hot day.
It loses a star because one of the front of house men was being a jobsworth and was rude and bossy to customers around us who were not following protocol. You can talk to people as people and politely ask rather then pretend you are above everyone and make people feel disrespected
Show was brilliant and venue really is beautiful
K. L.
Brilliant! I have been to this theatre many times. Always an enjoyable experience. Covid restrictions/measures were in place during this visit. Even with the restrictions my wife and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. A big thumbs up.
G. B.
Great theatre but balcony seating was appalling for comfort space and viewing, I'm sure other seating was ok but I wouldn't recommend the balcony, also it's a long way up to it with no lift so it's a bit of a track, shows here are always good though
M. L.
Had a fantastic time, we parked around the corner in the muli story. Show was brilliant, Singing in the Rain cast we're amazing. Would definitely come back.
s. j.
Excellent show. Had plenty of leg room which was surprising.
L. E.
Mayflower is a lovely atmospheric theatre. Wide range of performances. I love going there. However prices can be very expensive. If two or more of the same family go you are talking a lot of money. They used to do concessions for over 60s but that is rare now. I would love to go more often. It's now once or maybe twice a year. Otherwise a lovely evening out.
R. N.
Love The Mayflower as a venue. Have seen many different types of show here over the years. Always try to get seats in the circle because of the view to the stage. My only criticism is the seats. Like a lot of places there's not much leg room and their a bit uncomfortable. By the end of the performance your glad to stand and stretch your legs. That was my reason for only 4 stars. Having said that I will still go again.
S. J.
Been here to see four performances now. Each of them have been some of the best performed ever. The front of house is beautiful and the entire theatre is run as a charity, meaning proceeds mostly go to restoring the building.
S. H.
Beautiful theatre. So easy to get to from train station. Great variety of shows
J. F.
Well organised, staff polite and efficient and good leg room. Definitely go again, enjoyable evening.
A. G.
Much improved since renovation, always a great night out. Reasonably priced drinks and snacks in the new bar.
D. G.
A very nice theatre conveniently near the station which stages great productions. Large spacious auditorium . Main concern is no covid checks on entry. We were never asked if we were double jabbed or had to show anything nor had temperature taken and no social distancing inside sitting right next to people you didn't know.
P. B.
We absolutely loved seeing Joseph. Fabulous show and venue.
M. T.
Fantastic Theatre! Les Mis was Brilliant! Well worth going to see!
H. B.
It is a stunning theatre for some great shows. Worth going
N. S.
Arrived in good time. Checked in. Had our temperature taken. Filled in track n trace. Easy. Our front of show lady directed us to our seats. Good spacing of audience members. Show started, what roller coaster ride!. The narrator was very good, allowing responses and interaction with the audience. Use of local areas in his repetoir was cracking. I've never seen so many stocking and high heels and basque, and that was just the fellas in the audience. If you like the film, you'll love the show. Five stars is not enough.
K. S. (.
Great show, not sure why your not taking cash for snacks and merchandise.
T. H.
Excellent entertainment only four stars because the seats are so cramped
M. O.
Fantastic show, clean venue, friendly and polite staff.
E. M.
Peter Pan... Darren Day you legend! I was routing for Marty but you made that show flow! Awesome performances by all cast members however, Darren was tip top! Loved it, thank you!
K. W.
Lovely Theatre have seen many shows there, friendly helpful staff, seating arranged so you look between the people in front, also tiered so as to raise you up above the row on front.
N. T.
Watched Cinderella on Boxing Day. Lovely front of house staff, fantastic auditorium, wonderful pantomime all COVID safe. Thank you
N. T.
I really love this theatre. They have some really great shows on. Also I must congratulate them on thier disability facilities. My wife before she passed was completely disabled with Motor Nurone Desease, and the Mayflower is the only theatre I know that has a full ceiling track hoist to assist her in the toilet. Well done the Mayflower, 10 out of 10.
C. K.
Great City theatre. Modern entrance that compliments the lovely traditional theatre behind. Good range of shows. Drinks are not a rip off and you must try the restaurant, very good all round
i. w.
Good venue, booking system works well .
K. B.
Lovely old theatre, very helpful staff
C. E.
Amazing place great show , happy staff willing to help .very clean ...
M. C.
Went to see les miserables, fantastic show!! Very friendly staff helping 👍
R. B.
Fantastic experience watching Avenue Q. Reasonably priced bar, though the ice cream is a little expensive. The staff were all very friendly and we can't wait to be back here next month for Les Miserables and to try out the restaurant
C. W.
We were late but staff were amazing at being kind and helpful and got us to our seats in the dark! Fireman Sam was an odd performance..but my son seemed to enjoy it..happy days
A. T.
Very nice place with a nice program.
s. j.
Always have a great experience at the Mayflower. Reasonably priced tickets, very easy to book seats and very clean when I attend. I love the shows and the variety that is available.
Tend to visit twice a year and I love it.
A. T.
Great show, loved the musical. Seats reasonably comfortable. Toilets very small - very hard to social distance
P. C.
Haven't seen a bad show yet and have been coming to the theatre for many years
M. C.
Fantastic night at Mayflower theatre Southampton with the Nativity. Great entertainment for all the family. 5 star performance from everyone on stage, well done.
S. L. S.
84 steps to walk up to the balcony but was worth it, we loved it!!
S. B.
Beautiful old traditional theatre, recently refurbished. Seats comfortable and relatively spacious. Great variety of shows.
k. r.
It was great to get back to the theatre
Watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Staff friendly and helpful
Well worth a look to see what's on at the mayflower
A. W.
Show was fantastic, theatre good. Floor sticky and loos poor, clean but really difficult to move around in. I am a size 12 and would not like to be any bigger if l wanted to extract myself from the inside!
N. U.
Very good show. Theatre is very well organised.
T.
Every visit here is a joy, this time was the see Les Miserables, and it was as excellent as ever
M. J.
We enjoyed the show and followed the email instructions regarding mask wearing in the venue. It was a shame that The Mayflower did not enforce the rules in the email, as there were very few people wearing masks during the performance
E. M.
We went when there was socially distanced seating. The Covid precautions were thorough for the whole duration of the performance, meaning that all patrons should feel reassured, safe and secure. All members of staff were pleasant, polite and courteous. The only reason I'm not awarding 5 stars is that the auditorium was 'grubby'; there was a lot of dust and the floors sticky in places.
P. H.
Audience well spaced out and mostly wearing masks. Pleasant staff.
Asked for a decaf coffee in the bar.....it was dreadful, the worst coffee I have had in several years! The machine doesn't do decaf so it comes out of a packet! Ugh.! Come on Mayflower, you need to do better.
R. M.
I'd love to give it a 5 but they really need to improve the bar service at interval time. At a full house show the hot drinks machine was broken and service at the downstairs bar was inordinately long with one poor lady having to wait for her pre ordered interval drinks as the ticket had been missed. Having waited most of the interval downstairs to get coffee I asked for a bottle of water at the top bar to be told the bell has been rung. When I said it had literally just been rung I was told no that's several times now. I should have had the foresight to ask for some tap water I guess. There is also no system for queuing so it's a free for all. I'm sure with a bit more direction things could be improved.
R. M.
Lovely theatre, originally as far as I can remember a cinema, always have great view of the stage, saw The music of George and Ira Gershwin, a one night only event, always put on great pantomimes
W. H.
Like the theatre but the invasive bag checking puts me off going again. Toilets needs addressing.
D. G.
Went to see SIX! There were four of us and we had tickets for dress circle
Comfy seats and great view, the simplest of sets but so effective. So glad to be venturing back into normal. Felt really safe on venue.
S. S.
Great theatre, recently refurbished. Great shows, would recommend
D. B.
I love this theater. Just walking in through the front entrance transports you to a land where anything is possible. The staging is always spot on. The lights are perfect and the ushers are smiling and pleasant. Just wonderful
S. D.
War horse. Great show
Balcony seats. It is up in the cloudd, 84 steps. If you suffer vertigo, not the place for you.
Bar at the top. Seats could do with more padding.
S. B.
My grandaughter and I had a lovely l afternoon watching the performance of The Lion. The witch and the wardrobe on 27th November. To describe in few words - magnificent, brilliant and magical.
Thankyou Mayflower.
R. L.
Just watched Cinderella and it was absolutely fantastic one of the best I've ever seen. The staff were very helpful as my husband can't do stairs at the moment
G. P.
Wonderful being able to see Les miserables without having to go to London.
M. G.
Been here many times for many shows... the place improved for the refurb, in terms of small person with taller seated in front, the new seat arrangement cares for some of that. The staff are fab and can act decisively when called to help.
H. B.
The theatre is better then any of the London theatres, has a good selection of plays, musicals, and the prices aren’t extortionate. Right next to Southampton’s train station as well.
R. B.
Went to see Bill Bailey. Loved it.
Really good theatre - been a couple of times now with kids and by ourselves. Good all you can eat Italian nearby as well.
B.
Recent refurbishment has made it very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The toilets were clean too. Great night out.

Wonderful singers and actors!
C. L.
Just saw the Railway Children production here. Packed out.
The Mayflower is having a makeover in 2018 to make it even better.
Wheelchair accessible entrance available .
M. S.
A matinee of a Peter James thriller was the draw to get back into theatre. And the Covid security was excellent & very well run. At no point did we feel threatened & the procedure was very clear . First class . The play also kept us guessing with twists & turns right to the end with an excellent cast 👌
t. a. o. t.
Lovely theater and some really good shows straight off the West end come as well
A. D.
The main issue was the length of time that we had to wait for doors to open (both external and internal) which was a real problem for the sizable minority of the audience with mobility problems.
c. d.
I watched six on the 15th August 2021. The show was phenomenal. A lot of the staff at the mayflower however were not very helpful. They gave me so much anxiety only giving us a 2 minute warning to get to our seats before the show whilst at the foyer buying merch and said if we weren't seated in 2 minutes we won't get in. So we rushed to our seats instead of going to the bathroom beforehand and saw people coming in still 10 minutes after us. Why he couldn't give a ten minute or five minute warning instead of just two or why he told us that we won't be able to get in if we don't make it down in 2 minutes I don't know. Really stressed us out.
J. H.
Easy place to find, easy to get to from railway station, lovely building, interior is amazing. staff very friendly and efficient whilst observing the present covid situation
P. G.
We went to see Riverdance 25t Aniversary show on the last night, brilliant performance by all the cast. The music the musicians and dancers were all fantastic. The evening however was spoilt by the hundreds yes hundreds of people in the audience who did not wear face coverings despite several posters and probably emails asking people to do so . If you are one of them reading this you should be ashamed of yourself.
M. M.
When taken ill during the performance the Staff and Manager couldn't have been more caring and helpful. Excellent.
K. W.
Care taken for Covid. Easy ticketing, helpful staff, comfy seats.
A. B.
Beautiful building and the staff we met were friendly. Only downside was a small glass of wine is more expensive than a whole bottle outside of theatre
V. H.

Great to get back to the Theatre again. Wonderful performance of the Rocky Horror Show 👄
The theatre was still operating under Covid-19 Restrictions as tickets were booked before the 19th of July.
Therefore, it was about half full 🌕
T. S.
Went and saw Panto (Cinderella) at the Mayflower it was epic and the venue itself is as lovely as ever. Staff are lovely and friendly
K. M.
Great night out. Staff were at bit unorganised at the end of performance, but they did have lots of people to deal with! Lift at the moment is not working, so check before you go if you do need to use a lift.

Beautiful art deco theatre! Really sad how people leave their garbage after the show...
A. W.
Recently reopening and rearranging 2019/2020 shows for 2021.
They no longer issue paper tickets via the post to you as you now only have the default option to print your tickets at home from your personal home computer printer, or you can now show the tickets from your smart mobile phone on entry at the theatre doors.
For this method the theatre must have your email details.
28.04.21.
I will update this review regarding their covid in-house control methods once I have had the opportunity to visit a theatre show.

A wonderful building. Dont realise how marvellous until you go sit in it and see a concert or show. Just look up at the ceiling!! Friendly staff and such a treat to go out after 2 years lockdown! Highly recommended.
A. M.
When we got there Staff were Brilliant and very helpful and lovely. The only thing that ruined my time there was they are Contactless Only.. which is discrimination against those that want to pay with cash. Cash is still legal tender Luckily I had my own drink. But a shame as I didnt buy a programme or and merchandise.
B. C.
Great show and great atmosphere. Plenty of parking close by & free after 6pm
