Reviews of Highdown Gardens
A. J. “.
When did they build this place?!?? It's right on my door step!! The car park is a big shared car park with both gravel and tarmac however it is free parking (free is always better) my 1 year old daughter loved exploring there. Best of all it's a gorgeous location with plenty of trails. We spent over an hour there just wondering around and had a spot of lunch (picnic) which there were other families picnicking but everyone had plenty of space. I wouldn't recommend bringing a buggy to this place as you can see some of it is hard standing floor but alot of it is grass and dirt tracks. Definitely worth a visit.... A little gem hidden away.
K. B.
Beautiful peaceful gardens in a beautiful setting with lots of spring flowers, fauna, birds and bees 💓
L. D.
Chalk pit gardens with many native plants. Good pathways for wheelchair access to see many planted borders, a wealth of different trees and shrubs. A small pond with fish, cafe nearby, picnic areas within the gardens. A new visitor centre just opened.
W. C.
We love this place. They've done a brilliant update during lockdown and there are paths suitable for all or places for quiet contemplation. Most is wheelchair accessible. There's a small trail finding trees available to keep smaller ones occupied or open spaces for running around and every season is a different view. Free to enter but there is a donations box. Just lovely.
J. C.
We visited the gardens today for the first time since re-opening. Advance booking was required due to Covid but it wasn't at all busy. The new visitor centre is great and we loved the new hard (wheelchair friendly) pathway and central features. The rest of the gardens are as beautiful as before. Well worth a visit.
K. S.
Beautiful gardens with great colours and attention to detail. The new visitors centre and accessible paths are great for disabled visitors, although not all areas would be easily accessed, like the beautiful pond areas. Cant wait until they start selling their beautiful plants. If only they had opened up access to the tea rooms like when we were children, little steps down the side.
L. Y.
Fantastic garden, much better than Buckingham Palace gardens !
Chif gardener is so skilful, we can enjoy variety of smells and colours even in the end of Summer.
Lovely place for children and adults, plenty of cosy benches and picturesque spots for picnic.
Unfortunately, nice tiny waterfall is off now and pond is a bit overgrown.
D. W.
Always a pleasure to visit, beautiful gardens with adequate width pathways to get a wheelchair around all the gardens (though you may need a nap afterwards if you go off piste as there are a few grassy hills!)
M. B.
A little hidden gem. Stunning in the summer. Lots of facts and history to read in the visitor centre. I love the pond, always looking in it to see what lives within. Easy parking and free entry, donations accepted though. Once finished and out, you can wander off over the hills.
A. K.
Nice quiet place for walks or sit down on bench and relax. Well maintained place and free entrance. Plenty of free parking space as well.
C. “.
Nice quiet gardens. Not great for a walk as such, but just to enjoy the flowers and scenery.
N. N.
Beautiful historic gardens with new visitors center. Free to enter and facilities such as toilets, cafe and restaurant just outside the gardens. Lots of lovely snowdrops at this time of year.
E. P.
Beautiful as always, so nice to visit again, we'll be back with a picnic to fully soak up the peace and tranquility.
R. T.
Excellent... updated and improved access and facilities without deminishing the original gardens and it's free... what's not to like !
L. M.
We went to Highdown Gardens after hearing some good things. Being that Highdown Gardens is right on our doorstep we should check it out.
Highdown Gardens sits on 8.5 acres and created out of an old chalk pit. The chalk garden was an achievement of Sir Frederick and Lady Stern. Who worked for 50 years to prove that plants would grow on chalk. In the process creating some stunning gardens.
When you enter the gardens there is a little information section. Here you can find general information about the gardens. There is also a map for the kids to find specific species of plant. This is great for helping to keep them interested.
Everywhere you look there is something interesting to see, smell and enjoy. Each section has its own set of planes that are grown in that area it seems. Trying to take it all in is difficult as there is so much there. We not only saw flowers and trees but Dragonfly's, Butterfly, Birds and Bee's. Which is great to see I wish I had brought a small lunch with us so we can sit and enjoy the gardens more.
Should you suffer from mobility issues there is a route that takes you round the gardens. This is chip bark in places and if you have a wheel chair with small wheels you may struggle a little. Also the path is relatively even but it is a garden and people who are unsteady on there feet need to pay attention.
All in all Highdown Gardens is a beautiful site and one I will be visiting many more times with my kids and wife.
R. T.
Beautiful good job of Renovating all the paths glass houses and information centre even toilets have been updated
C. J.
Beautiful gardens, lovley place to walk and relax
T. G.
Just reopened and is absolutely stunning as usual with a few changes, beautiful flowers everywhere and so peaceful, highly recommend it. Supposed to book which I didn't realise and you get a 2 hr slot at the moment, assume that will change over time, luckily 2 people had just left so I was allowed in.
m. m.
Beautiful place to visit with lovely walks nearby.
M. T.
Lovely gardens, accessible, really peaceful... So lucky to have the gardens to walk around 👍😊
P. R.
Lovely to see the gardens open at this time of year. Snowdrops and winter aconites were showing lots of potential
J. S.
Beautiful place with free parking. Lovely view at the top of the hill, with the skylines of Portsmouth and Southampton visible with binoculars and, generally, as far as Beachy Head, looking north, and the Isle of Wight, looking south. The bottom of the hill also pleases, with gorgeous hills and vegetation visible all round. And there's a bench to sit on.
I imagine this would be a perfect place to walk the dog.
V. W.
Admittedly it was a grey day when we visited and the weather for the past few weeks hasn't been typical of our summers, but I was disappointed there wasn't more colour in the gardens and the pond areas looked as if they needed some attention.When/if the weather improves I do hope more of the new planting will begin to flourish. Regrettably I didn't have time to pop into the Visitor Centre, which I understand is very good, but the new pathway is excellent and I enjoyed the rustic sculptures. Despite my earlier comments, it's always a pleasure to visit Highdown Gardens, plenty to keep exploring and to re-discover. I shall continue to share many more happy picnics here and relax in it's tranquility. A true gem!
P. M.
Luckily we had a good sunny day last time , and so the walk was lovely over the top... Gdns are now v. pretty.
B. M.
First time going and it was beautiful! Lovely place to relax
B. D.
Great gardens just outside Little Hampton. Built on an old chalk pit, loads of different plants, shrubs and mature trees. Beautiful tranquil setting, also free to visit!!! Bonus.
M. L.
Fabulous free gardens with tons of secrets to discover, loved it...
H.
Well worth a visit, nice gardens in a chalk pit. Excellent views after a pleasent walk to the top of the hill(a gradual slope).
Recently reopened after a lottery grant.
T. G.
Really nice place to visit fo a bit of tranquility plus sometimes they have a coffee van in the car park who do really nice coffee
C. W.
Simply a lovely place for a walk. The area is laid out as a series of gardens and the variety of plants is excellent. Very well looked after, and good parking and access.
S. C.
Since the resurfacing of main pathways it has been far more accessible for everyone. Seems much more welcoming and although there is clearly work still to do, the place is a riot of colour and floral scents abound. A great boost for community and visitors alike.
D. A.
Lovely place to visit. Well looked after. Beautiful plants and flowers to see. Benches to sit on and relax.
W. K.
Beautiful, serene & blooming marvelous 🌿
N. J.
Absolutely beautiful gardens! The hard work that has been put in updating here has clearly paid off.It is so nice to have a beautiful place that is free to take our children,on our doorstep. It has plenty of lovely spots to just sit & admire the wildlife & different areas for the children to explore.Perfect!
M. R.
A beautiful garden, 8.5 acres divided into smaller areas by trees and shrubs. Each of the smaller areas had different plants to see. Trails for children to follow etc. Entry is free, there is an old postbox converted to a money box for donations.
The Highdown pub, where the service is really good, serves excellent food. There is also a tea rooms. Well worth a visit. We very much enjoyed our day.
S. J.
Our first visit since the gardens reopened. The refurbishment has been done really well with a new resin bonded gravel path, new greenhouse building and visitor centre. The sensory garden is also new and beautifully executed with brick built raised beds. This upper section of the garden is now much more accessible to anyone with mobility difficulties. All the old favourites like the paper bark maple and handkerchief tree are still there and the long established planting of unusual and exotic species in other parts of the garden remain too. An oasis of peace and calm up on the downs. Just wonderful.
S. S.
Beautiful free gardens, with a water feature, & many unusual plants- look up the history before you go. Park in the top car park & take a stroll- the view is breath taking. Take a picnic if you visit on a sunny day.
H. J.
Absolutely beautiful, have been coming here since I was a child and now Sharing it with my 6 year old, she loved looking at all the different variety of flowers, walking around the pond and watching the dragon flies, didn't go in to the Visitor centre but will do so on our next visit.
V. H.
Very nice garden and free entry! Now that's something you don't hear often these days! A bit tatty after the long lockdown; some parts need a good weeding and replanting but plenty of areas where you can sit on the grass and read a book or just chat. On the day we went the carpark was very busy and I feared it would be packed but it is spacious that you wouldn't notice. The Highdown Hotel is just next door with plenty of outdoor seating if you want lunch or just a drink in lovely surroundings or there's a teashop that does light lunches and snacks too. We ate here and it was very enjoyable and no more expensive than a garden centre.
N. T.
These gardens are a real credit to the designers, (from the little I was able to view - owing to late arrival at the site). It's definitely a place to re-visit, so that's a plan for another time.
C. I.
Beautiful little garden tucked away in the hills. If you have a couple hours to kill in the area there are much worse ways to do it. Plus, there is a fancyish pub right down the road to grab a drink after your relaxing walk - not a bad afternoon!
N. T.
Easy free parking at Highdown Hill. Refurbished loos. New Visitor Centre is informative. Junior tree trail looks fun. Level access to sensory garden. A good visit for all ages
A. W.
Lovely gardens. Parking okay. Toilets clean. Can't commit on the new visitors center as we do didn't go in. Even with a buggy you can get around most bits. The middle section to the sensory experience garden is fully accessable.
j. o.
Really enjoyed a casual walk around the gardens. The paths are a great improvement and special areas still available. I look forward to being able to buy a plant in the future to remember my visit. Thank you all at Highdown.
B. M.
Always an interesting garden with many different areas and something new to see every time - and it's free 👍
P. Y.
We really enjoyed our visit. It was so tranquil and relaxing. Definitely going back again and are thinking of taking a picnic with us to enjoy the peacefulness and beautiful plants and flowers etc.
A. C.
Beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. It contains rare plants from around the world. Gardens have been rejuvenated, with better access for wheelchairs and buggies. Guided tours are also available.
C. C.
Rose garden has disappeared; easier to walk on new paths; shame about the cherry trees. At least the pond is still there but the waterfalls etc are missing - needs running water and more colour. For a million pound spend I expected more but I expect the basic structures needed repair.
G. R.
Great place to explore, get lost and admire the amazing landscaping.
R. D.
Beautiful gardens - it is wonderful to see the work that has gone into renovating and setting up the visitor centre.
M. M.
Lovely gardens, very shady so great on a hot day.
A.
Deceptively large with a central accessible pathway splitting lower and higher gardens. Lots of beautiful flowers in bloom with plenty of seating dotted around
R. D.
great place for interesting water features, plants and trees with a peaceful ambience and clean toilets on the edge of the downs. A lovely contrasting visit away from the beach. And FREE entry.
M. H.
An early 20th-century garden at the north-east of Worthing, within an old chalk quarry, previously set up privately but now run by the borough council, but sensitively so. Open all year round, with early spring planting, mature Asiatic specimens and secluded walks. It's never too crowded, and the small cafe serves cakes and particularly good barista coffee.
D.
Restored gardens of plants that flourish in chalk.
C. C.
Beautiful gardens. Love going there. The trees and plants are unusual and very pretty.
B. M.
Beautifully refurbished now has a visitor centre all wheelchair accessible. ♿ such a lovely place for the whole family. Beautiful seating all around the gardens. Do book in advance some adhoc Spaces available but limited in number.
R. S.
Enjoyed a lovely time this morning with our granddaughter in the gardens. We saw dragonflies, a frog, fish and lots of interesting trees and flowers.
G. B.
Lovely little garden to Walk around, doesn't actually cost but donations are welcome.
The gardens are easy to navigate but there is also an information board before you go in so you can pick up a map
S. P.
Such a lovely place a lot bigger then i thought it was
J. H.
Lovely place for a walk to see the downs. The gardens are also worth having a visit to enjoy plants and trees, ( it's by appt for the garden at the moment with this virus problem!)
There's a cafe and restaurant also, so need to go hungry. The actual highdown building is old also.
J. M.
Beautiful gardens, you could stroll around here for a good few hours in blissful happiness.
P. C.
Lovely walk round in the autumn sunshine I'm sure it will look better when all the plants are out
A. B.
You can see where the lottery money has been spent and it looks great. I just hope the council funds it enough in the future to keep it looking as lovely in five years time.
A. W.
A lovely place to come for a family walk and explore of this beautiful garden.
B. F.
beautiful, tranquil and very interesting...I should think Spring would be a lovely time to visit...excellent new visitor centre.
J. W.
Lovely walk and well managed maintained gardens although some areas need attention.
R. J.
What a fabulous place, my first visit and it won't be my last. Perfect spring colours x
D. L.
First time ive been there. Amazing quiet place.
J. C.
A lovely garden which has been updated with disabled access and a new visitor centre. Lots of info about the garden and its creation in the visitor center.
I. S.
We had a delightful meal with the children and grandchildren. Food tasty, staff cheerful and helpful. Enjoyed the gardens too. We had a great day.
W. R.
Very pretty, well maintained, free gardens
M. R.
Found a shady spot to sit outside, had a light lunch & a glass to two. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
S. D.
Well worth your time for a free of charge wander around an unusual and significant garden. Any time of the year. Tea room and a pub right next door. And a longer walk on Highdown Hill if you wanted.
T. B.
A very pleasant free garden to visit, located in the downs
G. B.
Such beautiful gardens with a rush history, which is well documented on various signs across the area. There are nice distinct sections of different gardens; ponds; chalk pits and even a little cave! What's also nice and convenient is there is toilet facilities which are clean. No dog walking in the gardens, and it makes for a nice picnic spot on a fresh spring day.
P. C.
Lots of variety. Free parking. Entry by donation. I made a brief flying visit to the gardens in late September (late Summer/Early Autumn). The sheltered nature of the gardens (especially in the quarry area) gave the summer growth chance to hang on - very pleasant. Dragonflies, butterflies and other life still very evident. A good place for children to explore (with a leaflet to help them if they wish).
S. D.
Beautiful place with lovely garden and a must to go pub.
c. s.
Lovely gardens. Always a great experience and pleasant time. Even nicer since the renewal
F. S.
A couple of vegan options which was nice. No option for asking for soya milk with the online ordering, much nicer to speak to a person I say!
p. e.
Peaceful and an oasis of calm. New paths and main area more accessible. Still plenty a quiet areas to sit.
R. B.
Nice views and free parking but presently you can not go into the gardens themselves until late summer 2020 due to some improvements being made. Great place to go for a stroll or a picnic and there is a nearby pub/cafe/restaurant if you want refreshments but don't want to carry it yourselves.
V. M.
Amazing gardens in a unique location, with a pub, tea gardens and pop-up mobile cafe all close by.
C. L.
Tables seat 2 or 3 there were 6 of us mustn't move the Tables so we were spread out but it worked fine. Got a bit chilly when sun went behind a cloud. But still so good to see friends again.
D. G. B.
Nice place to go for a walk also across the south downs. great view of sunny Worthing. The garden are closed at the moment due to be Renovated. Opening soon I think 🤔
C. a. G. C.
Beautiful and many interesting Trees.
k. s.
Beautiful place to walk around. Make sure you use the toilets before going in because it is quite vast.
M. t.
This is the first visit but definitely will not be the last. Wonderful gardens, peaceful, lovely scents from the Rose garden. Lovely trees with different types of bark, very interesting.
Little places to sit among the trees for a picnic,.
Wonderful coffee shop with homemade cakes etc. Drinks served in proper China, always a bonus.
Well worth a visit.
J. R.
Lovely gardens to walk a round
Plenty of seats to have a rest and wheel chair friendly
T. G.
It's a hidden gem of Worthing. It is just a garden with lots of different plants, but it is well maintained and free. The gardens are all divided up by plants so great for a game of hide and seek. There is no playground or activities there so set your expectations for a nice walk and you won't be disappointed. One thing to be aware of is there aren't many benches, bins or shelter from the rain.
S. O.
Didn't actually go to the gardens but Highdown was perfect.
L. L.
What amazing gardens, very well designed and different flowers depending on the time of the year. Wonderful walks. Feels different every time I visit. Facilities are just about acceptable but don't take away from the experience. There's a coffee shop next door with an incredible selection of cakes and lunch options. Beautiful views of the downs. Highly recommended!
T. T.
Lovely and relaxing, despite there being quite a few people there enjoying the sun. A fabulous free place to go and have a picnic and wander. Just keep it clean and take your litter home 😊. The Tearooms aren't as good as they used to be, sorry but the owners need to get on top of the problems now. Poorly trained staff, hence slow service, food choice not as good and prices up. The 5 stars are for the gardens.
J. P.
Excellent revamp of the gardens, always a pleasure to visit, it was raining on our visit but it did not dampen the experience
M. T.
Recent renovations are a great improvement.
J. M.
Sadly the gardens are shut until the 2nd of June, but the mobile VW Camper coffee vendor a recent addition in the adjoining car park was an unexpected pleasure.
K. O.
Love it here. Such a nice garden to walk around any time of year. Lots of interesting nooks to look into as well as fish ponds, dragonflies, enormous rambling roses and some very unusual trees. Take a picnic and enjoy watching the kids roll down the lawned hillside. Plus free to get in!
A. B.
Lovely new additions to the gardens.
A. P.
A magical garden full of beautiful trees and unexpected glades
L. S.
Beautiful almost hidden gardens on the outskirts of worthing. Beautifully kept and quite easy to walk around, taking one's own time to enjoy the fresh air, song birds and beautiful shrubs and flowers. The hibiscus is out, such beautiful colour. There's a pond with some big fish, fascinating to watch. For me, to end any walk with a cup of tea is bliss so very nice to go to the tearoom by the side of the Highdown hotel.
j. e.
Lovely meal , Crispy Beef Salad washed down with a Pimms.
Good food and service as always.
N. B.
The gardens here are beautiful and make for a very relaxing walk. The only downside is due to people not cleaning up after them, dogs are unfortunately not allowed. They are however allowed on the field on the same site and there is some woodland to walkthrough with them. Lovely place, but the hillside is very cold when windy.
J. L.
These gardens are an absolute gem. The history of the gardens is fully explained and the free leaflets include a map/route and explanation of each area within the gardens. These gardens are at their most colourful in Spring and early summer, but even later summer there is plenty to see.
C. S.
Quaint gardens, very peaceful. Beautiful roses too
e. G.
Such a beautiful well kept place.
Went there today and sat and had a picnic it was quiet, peaceful and with the sun out what more could you ask for.
Chairs to sit on toilet and bin near by.
Lots of different plants and trees to see.
C. S.
Amazing since the major works they have recently completed.
S. K.
A beautiful scenic area full of great plants and flowers. There's a pretty rose garden, an area with a number of water features and an area with an assortment of other plants.
There's also a greenhouse with collection of cacti.
Free entry but the gate usually locks around 6pm. The gardens are also at the top of a hill with great views all around.
J. W.
A pleasure to visit. Although I'm sure more work could be done. There's definitely not £1M spent yet!!!
C. A.
Beautiful restoration of this hidden gem of a garden. Some areas are disabled accessible.
V.
Always a good and cheap day out for all nature lovers
C. T.
Great brand new children's play facilities, fantastic!
G. M.
Beautiful gardens but for me too many 'wild' flowers which detracted from planted flowers
K.
Great place to go relax and unwind. Beautiful gardens with lots to see. Family friendly but also please remember it is a historical garden so no balls games or anything that could harm to plants.
K. S.
Lovely tea room, extremely popular. Good choice of teas, coffe or soft drink, cakes & snacks which are tasty. Next door to Highdown Hotel where you can get delicious main meals/roasts & beautiful Highdown Gardens which are free to enjoy & eat a picnic if you wish. All highly recommended.
J. R.
Fantastic gardens, it's wonderful and nice and peace full. It's very relaxing; a great place for anyone whatever their age. You could meet up with family there, with enough room for the kids to play, or just walk round alone. After, you can always head over to the cafe and have a nice cake and a hot cup of tea or coffee. I really enjoy my visits its such a wonderful place to be. Also another great thing is that its free!
a. s.
Lovely gardens and a nice sheltered place for a picnic.
D. M.
What a hidden gem.
These gardens are nestled on the south side of the downs and have an amazing array of plants.
The fact that it is free entry is astonishing in this day and age, although leaving donation is advised if it is to be kept that way.
The plants are varied, although early flowering roses and clematis feature widely.
This piece of history is truly a wonder to behold.
After looking at the gardens you can picnic on the downs, adjacent to the car Park.
Another option is the somewhat pricy Highdowm pub or tea room.
If on a budget I'd go for a picnic.
D. G.
The gardens are really pretty at the moment with tulips and cyclamen out plus other plants. A real sun trap today. Its fab news the tea rooms have reopened too well worth a visit
T. P.
Beautiful and so peaceful. A haven of tranquility. A must on your visit to Sussex.
D. M.
Went to Highdown Gardens with 2 of my friends for a peaceful stroll. Such a wonderful tranquil place with lots of flowers and woodland! Would definitely recommend everyone to visit there. I hope to return there myself very soon!
P. C.
Lovely place for a beer in the garden in the sun ☀️
P. v. V.
Lovely garden, great place to relax and for the kids to explore
B. 3.
Great dog friendly cafe but they're not allowed around the gardens. We wouldn't have eaten there had we known. It was a hot day and we couldn't leave the dogs in the car while we visited the gardens so we didn't stay.
N. C.
A gem in the shadows with a series of tended shrub tree grassed and flowered areas with ponds and buzzing macro climate. All ages enjoying the wild experience discovering and making memories. With the sun shining on a hot day you could be five hundred miles south in a French garden. Then the traditional tea cafe and shop bring you lovingly back to Sussex with tea and cake on a hot rickety chair. Loved it.
L. W.
Lovely relaxing informal gardens. The groundkeepers were hard at work maintaining the gardens and the carpark was relatively full on a sunny Thursday lunchtime. (looks like there might be a new overflow car park). Entry is free, but they look for donations. Public toilets just outside ( no baby change, changed my boy "alfresco") but well worth a visit. A lovely way to spend some time. The highlight for me was the beautiful "dove tree" what a lovely tree!
C. P.
Beautiful place with lovely flowers, plants and trees and a stunning view... Worth the visit and it's free 😁
C. H.
A beautiful kept paradise roll on spring
K. M.
Lovely place can't wait to visit again
I. O.
Gardens are pretty and well kept. Highdown itself offers a gentle climb to lovely views over Worthing on clear day. Tea rooms and a pub plus free parking. Popular with dog walkers.
K. G.
Such a stunning place to visit! Went with a friend and our children! The kids had fun running around the beautiful gardens and afterwards we stopped off for tea and cake! Well worth a trip! 😊
G. G.
Really beautiful flowers, a serene and relaxing garden to stroll through.
A. W.
Has just recently reopened and it's just as lovely as before
A. G.
A beautiful place nestled in shadow of the South downs. Free car parking next door. The gardens are magical and reasonably flat. The Himalayan Musk Rose that rambles through the trees has a scent like no other.
M. B.
Free to go in, peace and quiet. Lovely walks around the gardens, bird song all the way,bar the pheasant now and again! Just a perfect place to relax as well.
M. S.
Nice little coffee shop, great BLT and nice coffee.
The setting is great with the South Downs in one side and Highdown Hotel on the other.
A very pleasant place to walk your dog (or parrot)
S. B.
Beautiful botanical gardens. A lovely day out for all the family.
U. M.
Relaxing chilled out place. You can have a really long walk around this large reserve exploring it all.
R. T.
Very nicely done a lot more plants easy to walk round staff friendly.
L. W.
The garden has been improved during Lockdown. Well worth the visit.
A. J.
Beautiful place. Great for kids to pkay hide and seek. Lots of "secret gardens". Very peaceful. Wonderful that it's free! Great tea room next door by hotel too!
J. E.
A real hidden gem. Always a delight. Nice with and without the kids. With added bonus of the re opened pub and tea rooms next door. Pretty excellent all round. Public toilets there too. Bonus.
C. G.
Had a really nice meal here for my wedding anniversary, I had a steak dinner and it was cooked perfectly! I have also stopped by on the odd occasion for a swift one and always enjoy the scenery and good service.
N. L.
Excellent garden-most enjoyable visit.
A. C.
A real asset to the town, & well worth a visit.
R. P.
This is lovely quiet gardens to stroll around. Would love to come again.
P. P.
A very special small but wonderfully stocked and cared for garden. We've seen baby rabbits in the spring, been to open air Shakespeare plays in the summer and its right on the edge of a downs walk
S. P.
Great views and dog walks up here, overlooking the channel coast and Worthing. Interesting take if the Millar's Tomb and car park is also free, which is great as it means everyone that can get there can access the area.
L. A.
Lovely to be back there. The roses rambling through the trees were stunning
A. _. a. _.
Lovely place to walk dog.
D. M.
Lovely!
G. K.
They really look after you if you have food allergy.
O. Z.
What a fantstic view.
D. H.
A very pleasant and peaceful place.
J. M.
Sadly the gardens are shut until the 2nd of June, but the mobile VW Camper coffee vendor a recent addition in the adjoining car park was an unexpected pleasure.
R. C. S.
Nice gentle walk on a nice sunny day
H. T.
Great place to explore and it's free entry.
P. C.
Lots of variety. Free parking. Entry by donation. I made a brief flying visit to the gardens in late September (late Summer/Early Autumn). The sheltered nature of the gardens (especially in the quarry area) gave the summer growth chance to …

Delightful and quaint tea room visit. Sitting outside in the sun, munching bacon sandwiches and splendid red velvet cake, pretty good coffee... does life get any better?
G. K.
For a council run place it is good and terrific value for money (nil entry fees)! The dry weather has effected the displays but even so it's worth visiting, we will return.
R. H.
A nice 40 minute circular (if walking at a leisurely pace) great views and usually a nice breeze. Lots of parking, ideal for dog walkers and families and easy to find.

Love it up at Highdown Gardens. I went there last weekend on Sat & Sun with different friends. It's so peaceful & tranquil listening to the various birdsong & walking amongst the beautiful blooms.
L. R.
Beautiful place. Love it here. My only criticism is that it's not a place for young children as they get "bored" because nothing there is electronic, so, they run around, consequently, the more excited they get, the more animated they get, which can spoil the peace and quiet.
L. G. H.
Beautiful and peaceful
L. Y.
Great for a picnic and to fly kite's 😀

Great little stop at Highdown Gardens and the little Tea shop. Sunday and a sunny day, beautiful fragrant old roses within the gardens. You're high on the Downs facing towards the sea then cross the parking lot going up the hill and follow path just a little way to the John Olliver tomb. You'll need to read why this is here from 17?? but the interesting bit is found on the internet about Mr Olliver as not only an eccentric but also perhaps a smuggler! Views are now with back towards the sea.
Tea house is friendly, with inside as well as outside seating. There is an absolute multitude of freshly made cakes on offer plus the soup and other things looked good.
Entrance to park is free as is parking. You're only paying for the cake and tea!
Well done for pricing and providing a lovely end to the walk.
