Reviews of National Trust - Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant
S. G.
Tŷ Mawr must surely be one of National Trust's most understated finds. It is remote to the point that you might need a tractor to reach it in winter situated where it is in the hills above Penmachno.
It is beguilingly understated because of its association with Christianity because the Bishop who translated the Bible into Welsh was born here.
It is sure to afford near exclusive domain for those seeking picnics in charming cottage gardens, such is the property's seclusion.
For reasons one might never imagine, on a fine day this is a daytrip where even a teenager armed with iPhone and ear plugs would find satisfaction.

I found many of the surronding trails are being churned up by the local horse hack . The amount of horse dung on the trails needs a clean up to be able to walk along.

Lovely autumn day to do the pilgrim walk around the ty mawr ( big) house. Many wet paths so have good boots.Stables near by will lots of horses around. Very enjoyable except for the narrow track up

Enjoyable visit! Be aware that Google Maps directions can be dodgy - use the written directions on the National Trust website alongside to avoid confusion.
Nathan in particular was fantastic - we thoroughly enjoyed his talk on the history of Ty Mawr!

Beautiful and tranquil setting and, although small, is still well worth a visit.
The couple who look after the house are lovely and give a very informative talk and guide to the house.

Really interesting place. The tour guide Wil is truly excellent. Without his enthusiasm this place would not be as interesting. Don't use bottom road, come through Penmachno and use the road through the forestry. The nature trail is a great walk on the tracks behind the cottage and the surrounding area is breathtaking. Top attraction even if only to meet the tour guide.

Although this is one of the smaller NT Properties it is well worth a visit. Ty Mawr is a traditional stone built upland 16th century farmhouse, probably best visited on a day when the weather is good. It is the birthplace of the Tudor Bishop William Morgan who was the first person to translate the Bible into Welsh. There is a collection of Bibles including his first two Bibles published in 1588 and 1620. Situated in stunning scenery on an old drover's route it has a small garden and there is also a nice walk.

Picturesque and peaceful spot. The house itself and the exhibition are small and don't take long to look round but the staff are very helpful, and a great spot for a picnic.

Really nice little house. Bit of a trek to get there but worthwhile. Not much there but you can walk for miles. The national Trust people were fantastic. Well worth a visit.
