Reviews of Sharpenhoe Clappers
A. C. (. v.
A beautiful walk for the family and dogs.
Loads parking available
Bench’s to watch the sun rise or set .
So many butterfly’s. And hummingbirds
R. M.
Amazing views from the bench, we were surrounded by a mass wildflowers and lots of butterflies. Peaceful location , we had lots of chats with various people we met which was lovely. The car park is quite small and did need some attention by the picnic table. No bin in the area so sadly some people choose to leave their rubbish on the ground rather than talking it home. The walk can be circular and it was very pleasant to walk in the shade of some magnificent trees. There are some quite steps so care needs to be taken, will definitely revisit
A. H.
Walking through a forest in autumn has all the aesthetics we look for! The leaves falling and the crunch under our shoes is so satisfying. Which are just some things you can enjoy on this walk. Just make sure to bundle up warm! Take your dog here thatd be fun for the little one to enjoy!!!
V. L.
Really nice natural area, second only to Barton Springs in this region. Lovely places to explore, nice and clean - apart from the car park where it looked as if people had emptied bags of garbage from their cars onto the ground. Cute little tree swings dotted around, lovely overhanging branches, large area to roam and let's the kids loose.
M. R.
Beautiful area for dog walks. Free parking at the top of the hill in a car park (has disabled spaces). Mixture of open grasslands and wooded areas, including benches for resting spots. It is hilly in places but that adds to the beauty and the views across Bedfordshire / Hertfordshire are beautiful. There is livestock in fields so be warey when walking your dog.
O. J.
Lovely area to walk the dog, so many ways to walk, through the woods, in the fields and between, lovely views of the local area from the hill top and you can also spot some lambs. The woods can be a little uneven so good walking footgear is recommended.
E. G.
Fantastic place to enjoy a relaxing walk, exercise or just chill and experience nature. Wheel chair access car park. Some areas wheel chair friendly.
P. U.
Lovely place. I really liked the chalk outcrop it looked quite surreal. There are also the moleskin and markham hills near by as part of the same National Trust site. Great views out over the hills from here. There is a good amount of parking and it's a lovely place to take a picnic. I would recommend a visit.
A. S.
Lovely chalk escarpment, fantastic views from the top.
We did a nice circular walk from the car park, around the top of the hill, down the (very steep and quite slippery) steps and then back up the hill. It wasn't the nicest day but we enjoyed the walk.
Plenty of dog poo bins but no general waste bins in the car park.
E. E.
Great place, took the dog for a walk and ended up playing on the tree swings, some are safer than others though
C. U.
Nice little walk, meadow with lots of butterflies, forest area, great views from the top, iron age settlement, hill fort.
D. W.
Great place to explore if you can get there (I cycled from Harlington station). Great place for a walk. Wonderful views from the top.
J. W.
love going here for a walk, has parking and benches to sit down at, the views are wonderful
D. M.
Very adventurous and a great place to walk around.
C. S.
Fantastic views!
S. M.
Lovely place for a walk and to take in the views. No facilities beyond a carpark and a few seats.
M.
Always incredible unrestricted views miles over thd local area here, it's surreal! Park up and take a walk around, you won't be disappointed.
R. G.
One of my favourite places to go for walk. Great views and lots of options to extend walk towards Barton
A. C.
Lovely chalk meadows shady trees fantastic views.
A. F.
Bank Holiday aug walk round the hills and back to the Nationsl Trust carpark. 6 miles of glorious views, beach woods and harvesting tractors ... what's not to like:-)😊
B. B.
Lovely walk and views
M. D.
Great views and a pleasant walk. Lots of signposts.

Today I visited the National Trust walking trail at Sharpenhoe Clappers near Luton. Beautiful woods on this historic pagan burial site and dramatic 35 mile views across the Vale of Bedford. This chalk ridge represents the eastern extremity of the Chiltern Hills that extend from Berkshire and terminate near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Whilst you are here explore nearby Sundon Park and enjoy a pint in the ‘Raven’ a charming country pub at Pirton near Barton-Le-Clay with additional walks to the Warden Hills at Luton which ironically is also in the Chilterns!
A. H.
Very nice place for a stroll with your dog. Nice picnic spot as well.
G. M.
Beautiful place to walk.
A. T.
Good place to walk with friends and family. You don't even know you are in the Country.
s.
Very lovely place for a walk. There are some steps involved, going up and down the hill, but there are other routes that are more accessible with a baby buggy.
Trees and the view look incredible. There's a smallish free car park and the place is easy to find. Autumn colours make it especially beautiful.
Be mindful with yiur footwear as it was muddy.
J. C.
Great place to go for a walk. From the main car park there are a few routes to take. There are some penned areas where sheep can be grazing but usually only in one pen at a time. Great for dogs that tend to bolt as they can run free in one of the vacant pens.
There are some lovely views here and a nice wooded area also with a nice picnic area. However through winter and rainy times you will need wellies as it can get very muddy and large puddles cam form.
S. A.
fantastic place to go for a walk although dog owners should be a little more considerate and keep their dog ona lead.
S. T.
Nice place for a short walk and beautiful views
L. G.
Lovely little walk for families, dog walkers etc. A lot of visible tree roots so using a buggy or wheelchair would be difficult but there are lovely views of the countryside and row swings to play on as well as an obelisk explaining how the Clappers came to be.
The car park (free) isn't huge but you can seemingly park on the grass verge outside too
L. T.
Lovely place for a day out❤
G. N.
Great views around the walks. However not well marked. Field's get very muddy. Small free car park, no attendants. So anyone can park even non NT members for free.
J. M.
Really nice walks to be had here, with several routes winding around the hills and through the woods. Autumn is a great time to visit as the leaves are all brown and gold and the place looks spectacular.
J. F.
Great for a walk and stunning views
J. B.
Lovely walks and beautiful views, always worth a visit.
S.
Great place always get a parking space. Great for dogs. 4 stars as people need to pick up the dog mess
J. R.
Stunning views of the surrounding areas. Allows you to spot other potential walks. Steep hill if you walk up from the bottom but car park is near the top if you drive and make it a bit easier if you don't fancy that walk! Car park is small so if its full park in Sharpenhoe and walk.
S. G.
A lovely place to have a mooch, my teens love it because there are plenty of climbing trees!
I. T.
Great for a walk. Very muddy after rain
R. R.
Some very steep climbs, but gentler routes available. Brilliant views from the heights!
There's also some tree swings littered here and there for entertainment and a quick break from the walking
L. M.
Lovely place. Small car park and no parking on the road. A wonderful walk to do, with amazing views. Please take your rubbish home with you though, especially cigarette butts.
s. s.
Good time with my sister Karen up sharpenhoe clappers today it was so beautiful walking around the clappers 😊
A. C.
Great walk and good views
F. V.
Great place to visit. There are lots of fields that have been fenced off for the sheep and they are clearly signed. When the sheep are in the fields you are asked to keep the doggies on a lead but still good if you like them used to livestock. There is a good size car park and all the walkways are clearly signed. We love coming here! 😊
C. M.
Just a drone pilot sharing a birds eye view with you
K. S.
Big open safe space for dogs to roam. Though be aware there are livestock (sheep) in the 3 secured fields in the centre so please keep dogs on their leads or walk around the fields instead of through them. Great views. A haven for walkers walking the John Bunyan Way and dog walkers.
G. D.
We'll worth the climb to the top and the views across to the Greensand Ridge. A special place to visit.
R. C.
Very nice area, would definitely go again!
D. J.
Best place ever. Black berries grow on the bushes alongside the road, a beautiful view over landscape and an ancient forest that has been taken from a fairytale place. And it has a story behind it.
Summer is definitely the best time to go.

Just what you want when you're suffering from modern commerce overload.... peace and quiet apart from birds singing and lambs bleating. No McDonalds, no PizzaHut, just woodland beauty. Bloomin' marvellous!

Very nice area of open space - quite busy with people, and not as large as some
