Reviews of Markeaton Park
C. H.
I used to be brought here 30 years ago and most of it still looks the same to my parents and it was a great visit down memory lane for them. This time, I brought my own children to play here! Great place to visit. Although we have never been here when it is packed but quiet is nice just the same.

Large public park, easily the most popular park in Derby and therefore incredibly busy during the summer.
It caters for all ages with remarkably good playgrounds for both young and older children, a skate park, paddling pool, outdoor crazy golf, bouncy castles, children's canoeing on a shallow pool, boating on a lake, a craft village and the orangery tea rooms.
The grounds are huge with lots of grassy areas to enjoy alongside the Markeaton Brook flowing through its entire length.
Historically the park is hugely significant, although you need to research it yourself as Derby city council seems to be allergic to promoting the city's past.

Great place to visit, love the open space and just outside the hustle and bustle of the city. Nice cafe in the centre of the park along with some lovely craft shops. During the summer there is a large paddling pool for the kids. Two ice cream outlets, one by the pool and a mobile truck near the cafe. Large kids play area and also a high rope trail for those more adventurous, though check out its website before going, as not sure on its opening times. There is also woodland walks and aa boating lake.
R. B. 1.
Love this park I've been coming since I was younger lots of things to do including paint a pot, play area, canoes, bouncy castles, donkey rides, cars, crazy golf and more. Really nice little cafe too.
H. R.
Love our local park. Especially early in the morning. Virtually empty, bird song, wildlife, just lovely, more than just a family park, although it is great for that. And now the café (fully dog friendly) has got a decent coffee machine, what's not to love
C. J.
Brilliant place to take the children or to walk the dog (or go running if you've got the energy lol). I think there's something for everyone at Markeaton. The park there is fantastic for the kids to play. And they loved seeing the ducks on the stream. There's a little court yard with quirky craft shops. Oh and there's a cafe.
l. c.
This place is great! It has so much to do. You can walk around the grounds and enjoy the nature and walk round, of which there are a few different options available.
On certain days they have the little train 'museum' open. It's quite small but run by people who are very passionate about what they do and their hard work is fascinating to see. There is a small fee to enter but if you like trains it's definitely worth it. Even if you don't like trains but can appreciate someone's dedication and hard work, then it's worth a look.
There is the craft area with a gift shop.
The whole place has random wooden carved pieces dotted around the grounds.
Young kids will love hunting for the fairy doors and finding rapunzel in her castle and the wooden thrones you can sit on.
The play area is huge and has enough to keep kids occupied for a good bit of time.
There is also a bigger area for the bigger kids, more of a challenge/activity than a play area.
There's a cafe for refreshments, toilets, gift shop, ice cream van.
There is a water area where you can hire a pedalo for a bit, a golf course, a variety of sports areas such as basketball courts, cricket ground and football area.
There is also plenty of space for families to have picnics and play games of their own.
Parking is well located and reasonably priced.
Excellent place to go alone/walk your dog or for a family day out.
A. W.
Nice walk around the park. £2.50 to park for 2 hours. We walked around the edge with the drugs, stopped for an ice cream at the orangerary, (no ice cream man today but there was still scoop ice cream) and a play in the huge playgrounds. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Toilets nice and clean.
S. F.
Lovely, large parkland with woodland walks, duck pond, river, two play areas and an assault course. There's also a courtyard housing some boutique craft shops and the cafe located inside the orangery has plenty of outside seating. For those looking for a more active day out, there are tennis courts and a pitch 'n' putt. There is a charge for parking which is operated through an app. Please see the Park website for more details.
J. M.
Been going here 50 years now! Always a good day out but have to say, the pizza place they have now was absolutely brilliant 👏 staff so accommodating, had a lovely pizza meal in the sunshine and a trip out on the boats.
C. M.
So much space with lovely areas to explore. Lawns, formal gardens, walled and sensory gardens, woodlands and huge open areas. Children's play areas lake, boating, tennis, craft village. Plenty of benches and picnic tables dotted around.
Can be very busy at weekends but try exploring the further reaches of the park.
A. Y.
Such a wonderful place! So much to do. If you want a walk it's perfect. They have a park for children, ducks to feed, ice-cream vans, a nice café and even paint a pot! If you live in mackworth and have not yet gone for a walk here, I recommend you do!
A. F.
One if the nicest places ive been too. Lovely place to visit for couples and families of all ages. Some lovely walks from open walks near lakes to forest walks for shade. Thiers play areas for kids a nice cafe and ice cream place, craft place to visit. Parking is £5 all day so worth it. Would definitely recommend and come again.
S. B.
Beautiful walk in Markeaton Park on Sunday afternoon. Lots of other people enjoying the super weather. Autumn colours are stunning. 😊 Beautiful spring walk this afternoon around the Park. The sun shone and the red poppies shone in the gardens. 😊
E. H.
Lovely wide open space, plenty of walks though the park, great children's play area. Good selection of food at the Orangery. £1.00 for food to feed the ducks!
J. B.
We had a lovely time at the park, lots of space for kids to run around play on parks and feed ducks. The only slight downside was it was a really nice day meaning it was quite busy and none of the smaller stalls selling ice cream or drinks were open meaning queues were large for the cafe and ice cream van.
N. C.
Today is the fake festival with 6 well known tribute bands. All very good. Plenty of places to eat & drink at very reasonable prices. Security is very tight but also very friendly which makes me feel very safe. A great day
C.
Large clean park suitable for a wide range of ages. with a variety of seasonal activities for the kids including large paddling pool, bouncy castles, donkey rides, mini golf, canoeing and ride on go karts and High ropes. Cafe on site. Large open space for picnics and activities. Easily one of the best parks in Derbyshire.
H.
The park is extremely well managed and looked after. The atmosphere is serene with loads of green and quiet places to go and relax. There's also a paddle pool for kids with 0.7m near the centre of the pool. It's such a large area that we were not even able to explore it all! We will surely be back for more enjoyable moments.
Highly recommended for anyone especially families.
The only issue is I'd love to see them ban smoking on the grounds or make a reservation for smokers because it's not good for kids.
C. G.
Lovely park with plenty of activities for families and couples. Nice eatery for refreshments at the Orangery. The cheesy chips are especially edible
Look out for the specials on offer too. 210 acres of open parkland with plenty of wildlife to look for, lots of birds to spot
.
R. C.
Absolutely love this place, reasonably priced parking and so much to do for the whole family
R. G.
Fantastic park for my 3yo, but you need to be running around the pirate ship to ensure they are safe as it's large with sections many exits I could not see him if I stayed in one place. The toilets were quite a walk from the park as well not ideal for small ones just out of nappies.
r. c.
Really nice clean open space with plenty to do for the whole family and nice well maintained play area
F. J.
Love this park but beware of parking charges. You can use App though so very convenient but no other parks in derby I had visited needed parking fees so I got caught out once several years ago . I avoided park for many years but now go regularly and so lovely and live an evening walk here .
J. C.
Nice clean park with parking, toilets, good cafe and play area. There was a small fair on-site when we visited which added to the great experience. Worth a visit with the kids
P. W.
Great for kids large play area and open spaces, plus cafe and craft shopd
F. G.
Great free fun,and if u want to spend a bit, there's bouncy castles, boats,go carts
C. C.
Went here after visiting the Crematorium nearby. This was a trip down memory lane as we used to visit here when our Children were young, during stays with parents. Had lunch in the Orangery and a stroll around the gardens.
C. S.
Lots of space and things to do. Well kept greenery and pathways. Only downsides are the entrance into and out of the main car park off the roundabout and the fact that the car park takes cash or payment via an app. Elvaston takes credit cards directly at the machine.
M. B.
We love this green space, they still have the Canadian style canoe pond that I went on in the 70's.
Well done Derby Parks for keeping this place so special for us and our future generations to enjoy.
Thank you
T. D.
Absolutely wonderful place to take your dog for a run, the park hasn't been updated for a good 15 years, but still looks in great shape, there is a climbing center here but when we went on the Saturday it was closed. Theres also a miniature railway here too. The park also has a small amount of shops and dining.
N. T.
Absolutely great place to take kids. Lots of activities and great play areas and plenty of open space too. The cafe was good food and not too expensive. Service wasn't too bad either considering it was a busy sunny day and there was a constant queue of ppl out the door. Only complaint is that the parking should accept cards. Who ever has the right change?
G. G.
First time visit and was blown away by what's available. Massive play park split into several sections, bouncy castle, crazy golf, canoes, electric bikes and more! If I have one criticism it's that there aren't enough benches or seats in shaded areas but this isn't a deal breaker.
J. M.
An absolute fantastic park to go and spend the day as a family. Nice place to have a walk around. Events that take place at the park with a fair and others. Public toilets to use too.
D. P.
Great place for the kids but if you have a dog forget it if you have kids who want to use the padding pool, we walked the rest of the park really nice and walked back towards the water park very busy but sadly despite signs saying no barbecue many people ignore, lack of wardens to monitor 😢
E. T.
Lovely, plenty of space so as able to find your own space, had a lovely family get together picnic there, although weather not great but still enjoyed picnic & walk around!Be back soon in better weather!
S. S.
I absolutely loved Markeaton park to say every memory came back to me being there as a little girl especially seeing the big paddling pool for the kids and just lovely area to be in but also the lovely Ice cream at the entrance near the tea pot crafting I will definitely be coming here in the future again as I love this place thank you ever so much 😊
G. L.
Very quiet. Tennis courts gone. Flower beds empty or removed. One path waterlogged and full of rotting leaves and unusable. Also another path semi- puddled and one blocked by gardeners vans so inaccessible. My wife uses a mobility scooter so had to cross muddy areas to get past. Not ideal.😞😞
T. K.
Nice and big park. Parking was a little bit difficult as I could only pay for it by app. Other than that it's a great place to have a bige walk and play with the kids in the playground 🙂
m. m.
Medium sized park with lots of space for walking and kids play area too, there's even a paddling pool and mini gold course too. Car parking available costing £1.60 for one hour, £2.40 for two hours, £3.80 for up to four hours and £5.00 for more than four hours. Disabled can park for free. There's also a skyline climbing area but these needs to be booked in advance. Lots of fun but some activities or areas are only open during the warmer weather.
J. S.
Visited the classic car show. Parking etc was well organised but there were only two areas where you could buy food and queues were exceptionally long at both places. We had to wait over 40 mins standing in a queue before even placing an order for our food
T. B.
Very nice park but was a bit expensive on the stalls serving food and ice creams. Was very busy when sun was out but kids didnt have to wait long for turns on the park (which we feared as we saw the masses of kids on the park). Only downfall is that there is not enough parking spaces
A. B.
Large play area large paddling pool boating lake kayaking crafting painting a pot and walking what morein the centre Derby could you ask for. Kids enjoyed ice cream van with with an extra large queue pay for parking all reasonably priced
J. H.
Great place for a picnic, walk and play with the kids! Shame the paddling pool wasn’t open but I’m sure it will be back up and running soon (thanks COVID!). Check out the “Love Exploring” app as it has great AR dinosaurs!
S. H.
A super day out with covid and safe distancing enforced. The is a unfair on at the moment there too which has a decent choice of rides. There is a £1 entry fee into it and a limited number of people allowed in so you may have to queue. The thing that impressed me was the staff that were inside, they were brilliant. All the rides are wiped down after each ride. One stopped the ride for my granddaughter to get off too. Face masks have to be worn while on rides.
The children's play area is also monitored for numbers. The is crazy golf too which has had a face lift since my last visit and it is brilliant. Those are the things we visited at the park which has security a pay car park and very clean and well maintained.
k. L.
Lovely place, week day visit so would come again weekend more of the cafes and train and other things open. But loved it xx
N. R.
Beautiful park to spend weekend afternoons. There was an ongoing fun fair during my visit. Boating is also an attraction
S. W.
Great park. I haven't been for a few years and went for a leagues cricket match. Will definitely be visiting again soon
M. W.
A beautiful family park 🏞 try the little garden centre with potters cafe serving stunning food. It's next door to the farm which also has its own little cafe. Then of course there's the orangery off the main path near the craft centre. What with all this and the park area, railway museum, canoe lake, paddling pool, bouncy castle, crazy golf and cafe hut near the pool, skateboarding ramps, high rise bungee assault course. This park has just so much to offer!
There's a cricket pitch, fishing lake and a golf course too.
There is now a path that runs almost the whole circumference of the park, with many paths running off into other areas, which serves just about anyone. No more muddy winter walks (except in a couple of low lying areas near the golf course, if FOMP & DCC sorted this out, it would be perfect). Some of these paths take you into peaceful woodland areas.
There used to be a train track running around the park years ago, with two stations in the park too, however this was all removed due to costs and it is now an additional peaceful walk, right from the A38 entrance to the children's canoe lake. (Just turn right, on foot, as you enter the park from the markeaton island entrance).
I live 5 minutes from the park and had lunch there yesterday at potters cafe. The weather was just so beautiful and I bought a few plants for the garden too.
At Christmas they have a craft fair, with a live band, singers, so many stalls, Santa of course and lots of nice food, mince pies & mulled wine. This year it takes place on the 3rd & 4th December.

Beautiful grounds, neat, well kept lawns
S. R.
Visited Markeaton Park whilst on a day trip to Derby, was a pleasant afternoon. Had a bit of fun doing some rowing in the boating lake.
A. B.
This place is huge! How have I never discovered this place before! The vast fields and openness means you'll always find a spot to park yourself and your family / friends.
There's a funfair onsite (not sure if this is a permanent fixture), so will keep the kids occupied.....and if not there's a play area too!
There's also a small lake for the more energetic, who fancy giring a peddelow / rowing boat.
The one thing that let's it down is the car park. It's always rammed and you struggle to park. Many people dump their cars in places that aren't spaces too, making it even harder for everyone else. They need to seriously increase the car park to cater for everyone, and build on the popularity of the park.
T. J. L. s.
I've not been here for a while but going back to this beautiful place really lifts the mood. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants a nice little walk. And the play area is great for the kids ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
C. K.
Excellent large park with great access with car parks and plenty of entrances for walking, a large number of trails and paths in the park, a few large ponds with a wide variety of waterbirds.
A. p.
A very nice spacious park..loads of events happen there throughout the summer .A really nice cafe vegetarian and vegan diets catered for..also a small craft village is there...
S. K.
Wonderful place to visit.
If you love in Derby then you will know of Markeaton Park, it's wonderful in the summer where there are swan/push boats, a children's playground and mini golf open, of course in winter and while Covid 19 is around then most things will be different.
The shops, cafe and children's playground are still open. The cafe you can normally get a range of hot or cold drinks, nice little treats - I don't think you can sit inside at the moment with Covid-19 around. There are ducks you can look at as well which is lovely to do and there is a garden centre as well very close by which is really nice (also a wonderful cafe at the garden centre when this opens)
There is a Christmas tree up and festive elements in the Markeaton Craft Centre and there are lots of different walks you can go on around Markeaton Park. If you get really hungry there is a McDonalds and Subway opposite the Park.
A. A.
Awesome place to hangout with the family
H. E. H.
Brilliant. Such fun great day out for families. I haven't been since I was a child so bringing my children was great. They had lots of fun the paddling pool is amazing everything is fairly priced. Can't wait to come back! 🙂
V. T.
This is a massive park, beautiful and great for walkers. 2 lakes, places for kids, stop for lunch, whats not to like.
M. F.
Nice walk and plenty to see. Kids love the park area and splash pool.
Some of the independent stores are quite overpriced.
J. L.
Brilliant wide open parkland with lake and lots of activities. Great for all ages with playgrounds, crazy Golf, walks and a cosy tea and snack cafe with plenty of seating. The car park is spacious and you pay a small fee which all helps the Maintenance of the lovely clean park. It’s very popular with lots of wild birds and swans and plenty of space for all. Always an ice cream van 🍦
A. N.
The park and pool area were so clean theres staff always around clearing mess and dealing with any issues. Pool was clearly well supervised by 2 staff members.
V. N.
Another perfect location for a family day out. Cafe, icecream trucks, art, DIY, long walks, kids play area, huge empty fields to play any games!
G. H.
Been here several times ,always seems popular at weekends . Big park with a shop ,ample parking , ice cream and long walks with or without a dog .
K. T.
Lovely open park with lots of amenities
Good that dogs can go in the cafe as not trouble. Look forward to returning when warmer weather.
L. M.
Because it is good for all ages. I've taken my grandchildren & my parents. It is a nice walking, cycling place to go with activities for children. A lovely cafe so my parents could have a sit down when they got a little tired. Plenty of space & good parking not too expensive. Great in the summer and bonfire nights.
M. S.
This is one of the biggest parks in the area. It has a lot of areas suitable for exploration, wandering about, exercising, or even for friends and family gatherings.
If you are lucky enough you might also encounter a bevy of swans close to the lake.
P. L. G.
This park offers a great range of walks, has a lake with lots of ducks, sand and different birds. Very good to visit
M. L.
It's such a lovely park, so many beautiful trees, well maintained walkways and good size lake with all the birds on it. Also lovely to see the young families enjoying the space and the play areas.
R. F. W.
In general good park with nice facilities pool needs revamp and Pond needs to be expanded. I would highly recommend a makeover for this place
S. “. M. s.
So lovely to walk round and so much fun gor the children , my grandson loved to swings and slides .
C. W.
Great experience during the pandemic. There is a member of staff at each entrance of the play area counting numbers keeping it to a maximum of 150 people at all times.
When a queue starts to form you are politely asked to leave via tannoy if you have been there an hour or longer.
Great system for busier times allowing for people to still enjoy the park 😊
C. H.
We have visited a few times and every time we do, we all enjoy it. Weather it's in the summer or winter! Plenty to do for the children. One of the best playgrounds in the area for children. Only wish we lived nearer to the park. We are 2 hours away!
C.
Very nice place to visit and relax. Too bad they dismantled the narrow gauge railway tho. It is such an undeniable loss...
A. J.
Very nice park, well maintained, lots for the kids to do
Parking is expensive though, £4 for 4 hours
C. M.
Good size park, with plenty to do but have to pay for car parking.
G. W.
Definitely worth a visit nice park pretty big with boating lake and massive clean lake.
D. M.
Great for families, free park plus paid attractions too.
R. W.
Markeaton is a great park.
We visit alot throughout the years.
The park itself is massive!
It's set out really well with paths leading the way to all the main attractions on the park.
Along the way there's fairy trees where you can leave a wish or find a hidden rocks.
It has a 'crafts village' that has some lovely, independent shops.
Within it is the toilets, cafe & paint a pot.
One of the craft shops sells duck feed for the ducks, which Markeaton has alot of! So it's worth nipping in them just for the feed.
The cafe is nice and not too expensive- they have homemade cakes but the hot drinks are all from one of those button machine, so are not amazing.
The park has a really big play area with both a toddler section & an older kids section. Both are fenced and gated off, with seats on the inside for parents/ guardians to sit.. dogs are also not allowed in the play areas, but you can stand outside and watch the children over the fence (It's not high)
(They're currently doing the play areas up, as they've taken out the crazy golf )
In the summer they open up the outdoor pool area, which is always very popular
At one end of the park there's a little farm with horses, pigs, sheep etc.
You do need to pay for parking
1 hour £1.60
Up to 2 hours £2.30
Up to 4 hours £3.70
All day £4.80
C. M.
Always a great place to take the kids for some fresh air and a play.
Lots to do when there, when we went it was a cold (and later very wet) Sunday afternoon in January so the facilities like the coffee shop, boating lake etc. were closed.
L. M.
Always clean and welcoming. I walk my two dogs there, frequently. It's quite expensive to park, if you go daily. There is not a season pass available at this time.
R. H.
Lovely park, walled garden, plenty for kids to do.
S. P.
Lots for kids to do in Markeaton Park. Nice to see a new mini golf for 2019, 2 x 9 holes, or the full 18. The open-air paddling pool is open and looking refreshed too. Not many of these left around the country, so we're lucky to have this one.
C.
Love coming to markeaton Park, great family day out especially I'm the summer. Large open space and a great spacious park for kids of all ages. Been well looked after and free toilet facilities. In the summer they have a paddling pool area with donkey rides, bouncy castle, etc.
N. P.
Went here for the fair. Children had a great day out. Although the fair is over priced. The rest of the park is beautiful
J. R.
Bigger than I thought it'd be, really good for a stroll around. Lots to do here for kids and adults alike
J. C.
Great park. Love the duck pond. Great playground for young children and older children. However, signage definitely needs improvement. Lovely to walk around.

Great park with loads to do. Has a skate park, kids play park, paddling pool, donkey rides, craft village, cafes (although the coffee is terrible), ice cream vendors, miniature go-ape style climbing (paid), crazy golf, pitch and putt, football golf, rowing boat and pedalo hire (big lake) and kids canoe hire (small pond).
Fantastic day out.
A. B.
Good for a nice walk in good weather could do with more ice cream vans was only one when we went but overall had a lovely afternoon here.
J. H.
Nice Park and walk round. Lovely shop. However I think they got rid of the outdoor pool which is sad
S. S.
A good place to bring your kids. A lot of activities going on including arts and craft, mini golf, tennis and basketball.
R.
Whilst a nice place is reuined by people letting their dogs run off lead. Only today, a staffy of lead attacked a Swan or goose.. I'm guessing the poor bird will need to be put down.
L. M.
Loved it here, was clean and a beautiful park. Had the best of the weather too
V. B.
I like Markeaton Park for taking my dog on walks. Every one friendly. In the summer there is loads to do for families. It's a well looked after park.
Not happy that your going to have to paid for tennis courts at the end of March. Wish more dog owners would pick up after themselves.
M. C.
Nice facilities but expensive parking with no change given. Has a canoe lake (paid) for under 13s (only a foot or so deep so very safe) lots of play facilities which are free, high ropes (paid) a huge splash pool which is free, crazy golf (paid) lots of areas to walk about or have a picnic and is dog friendly.
N. G.
Great park with a lot to do. Plenty of open space
B. S.
Such a lovely park. So many different areas to explore and enjoy.
P. D.
Lovely Park close to Derby University. Sports activities available , a large model railway on site and the Orangery Cafe.
D. G.
Enjoyed an outdoor date at Markeaton Park. Had a nice walk on the river side and went on the puddle boats. Only had an issue with the price of ice cream and boats.
L. G.
Lovely park to wonder around, cafe food was good, and not to long to wait for it to be prepared.
J. L.
Simply fab. Something for all the family, lovely shady spots when required, boating Lake, woodland, meadows & gardens & cafe in the orangery which is reasonably priced.
J. L.
Markeaton Park is Derby’s most visited park and is one of the most popular attractions in the East Midlands. It offers a place to escape from day to day living and city life and experience a little bit of countryside on Derby’s doorstep.
But behind the modern day park lays a fascinating history that is waiting to be discovered. The park as we know it today can be traced back to the medieval period, when the first park was laid out. Over the following centuries the park went through many changes, from arable fields to an enclosed designed 18th century park and hall and finally at the beginning of the 20th century into the public park of today. The park has many features that mark this history: ancient veteran trees, historic lost roads, old arable field patterns, the 18th century park and buildings and the remains of a Second World War army camp
S. H.
A beautiful park! A massive lake and plenty of space to jog, run, or walk your dog. The parkrun on Saturday mornings is great too.
R. M.
Extremely sludgy on the grassy area this time of year, so take your wellies!!! Otherwise, as usual, really nice big open park, lots of dog walkers, disc golf/footgolf/pitch n putt open if you have your own equipment. Nice open spacious park for all walks of life! Quite often see the squirrels running about to which is cute! Toilets and cafe in the craft centre with little shops and a good kids play area, a great place for a day out
C. “. N.
Beautiful park with lots of facilities for children to play, serene environment.
N. A.
Great day out could do with a bit more could have more things for kids this is the main park for Derby I think they could do compare to other cities
J. H.
Good place to go with the grandchildren just remember your towels when the paddling pool is open
N. B.
Very well maintained gardens, lovely place for picnics and wildlife. Great play facilities for children.
T. M.
Nice large recreational space, pity the visitor centre is only half open due to lack of craft retailers.
m. a.
Had a fun fair going on ,we had lots of mini adventurous rides done by my daughter
T. T.
Excellent place, but again the hand dryer in accessible toilet is not in the correct position.
A. D.
Great park to visit, from as far as Yorkshire and twice since Easter. Plenty of interesting features and attractions for adult, youth and child alike. And at less than £1 per hour parking, excellent value for money
E. B.
Beautiful place for families and dog walkers lovely tea rooms went to classic car show today July 3 rd 2022
G. N.
Good place for kids, many facilities for kids to play with
L. L.
Great place for kids, dog walkers and families! Plenty of play areas for entertainment and a vast area to walk around, there are also other attractions like boats pedalos and fishing on the lake. Can be overcrowded on bank Holidays and during the summer holidays
R.
First time visit. Great place for a long walk. Big park for children to play . If your taken photos. Theres a few lakes with wildlife to take photos of
S. P.
Very nice park my kid's really like the park
A. B. F. S.
Very large park with loads to do
A. A.
Brilliant for kids if the weather is good. Good park area, the waterpark area is good but was over crowded. The canoes provided good opportunities. Best to get the tickets as it works out much cheaper
M. A.
Great place for Families or just a walk
c. P.
Great walk ..first time there cool
A. B.
Very large and interesting park.
Lots to do when covid is over
J. L.
This is a lovely park. If you havent been there is so much there. Our Grandchildren always want to go when they visit. It is not just for kids but has lovely walks, superb cafe and lots more. Get out there you will love it.
M. S.
Lovely space to while away a few hours. Great cafe and massive children's area.

K. O. (. S.
Gorgeous park, great play area for kids, ponds with loads of birds and stunning grounds to walk on. There are cafes, toilets and some independent shops. Something for everyone
D. “. E.
I love Markeaton Park. Lots of space and activities. Great paddling pool for lots of people and gets very busy in the summer time. The place has bouncy castles, motorized cars, a crazy golf course. A boating lake for kids in the canoes and another boating lake towards the back of the park for families. It also has a cafe to cater for your hungry little ones with great food situated begging the pottery and shops near the courtyard. They occasionally have donkeys to ride in their own sandy enclose. They sometimes have a mini fair there in peak season.
Overall a very good place to visit.
A. S.
Local , nice walks , lots of parking spaces , day friendly .
L. P.
The children's play area is good, it has a wheelchair access roundabout and a swing for children with additional needs. It has lots to do but when we went a lot was shut l, maybe this was because it was midweek. The cafe "The Orangery" was nice the food was reasonably priced and tasty, we ate inside with two small children, the negative was everything was served to us in takeaway packaging so we had to improvise and use tissues for plates. It was a nice little stroll, I would like to see Dery City Council promote people keeping their dogs on leads and a few more signs discouraging people giving the ducks bread and promoting seed.
A. F.
There's a lot here for kids. Great facilities for climbing and swimming. There is even crazy golf. You can hire boats to row out and there is a good Cafe with local businesses behind.
The park is quite large with various different walks that branch off from the park itself.
If you are looking for breakfast I highly recommend the garden center up the road "the potting shed".
J. F.
Great place to take our grandchildren. Large paddling pool, boating lake, crazy golf etc.
W. B.
Big park. Lots of facilities and diversity of scenery. Boating pond, kids play area, lots of stuff.
M. M. R.
Beautiful park, a very well attended Park Run event on Saturdays and friendly locals. The Orangery is a beautiful building with friendly staff serving good value refreshments
A. K.
We spent there a wonderful time
G. L.
Great place for children lots to do.
S. Y. K.
Lovely park, lots of open space for walking and running. A great play area for children as well
1. U.
Lovely walk and great play area for kids
E. Y.
Beautiful and absolutely family friendly park!
B. W.
Loved all the play areas at Mundy play centre in Markeaton park. I was impressed at how well they were kept. It's a few years since I had been there. Was disappointed at the price of the high ropes play area! It's not surprising they weren't been used! Even £12.50 per child = £37.50 for 3! A lot of money. Look good from outside!
T. G.
Brilliant park something there for everybody and my dogs fave place
p. c.
Lovely place to visit
W. C.
Lovely Parkrun (walk/jog) with amazing autumn colours and a nice coffee and bacon bap in the Orangery afterward. Good parking availability - coins or phone parking only, no card payment
C. C.
Lovely park, jas great walk which vary in length and difficulty though all can be done but the vast majority.
Lots of attractions and things to do and see, could do with more places to eat.
Overall it's a very popular place to go, the sad truth though is it's under threat there are plans to expand the A38 which runs right past the park, and to expand the road a vast swath of old and ancient trees and land will have to be cut and removed I understand we all need roads but in times like this we need green spaces.
This time it's a few trees for a road next time it will be more land for homes and soon there will be no park left.
C. Y.
The best playground in the area. My 2 year old is entertained for hours.
J. W.
Great in the sunshine kids pool and play park a real hit and cheap parking. Good family day out.
H. T.
I love Markeaton Park Derby. I am a little sad to see that the mini ride on train has been taken away. Was a lovely way to get to the Monday Play centre.
The children's rides and activities have become expensive and very limited for tall or/and Disabled children and adults.
Would love to give 5 stars but due to expensive parking and payable activities being age and height restricted. The paddling pool grates the skin of kids as very rough. Poolside is slippy.
Very limited shade or seating available.
The scenery is beautiful around the lake and the old cafe is beautiful and reasonably priced.
A. M.
Great area for the kids to run wild. Plenty of history around the place (if you're in to it) dog friendly and the cafe has good portions
S. S.
Wonderful to enjoy some springtime sunshine at long last..Decent facilities and the fun fair was good but the free park was excellent for the kids. Will be back again later on in the summer for sure
J. B.
Beautiful park at any time of the day. Kid play areas with fields on fields to stroll around. Always love a walk around markeaton.
R. H.
Great Park with plenty to do for children and adults alike.
My dog loves watching the ducks.
K. B.
Great day out, enjoyed by my 8 and 4 year old. Ample parking, great playground, grounds and paddling pool. Cafe available around the play area and a nice orangery near to the main carpark offering food and drink. Donkey rides and bouncy castles available at an extra cost. The ticket office has a great tannoy/call out system for lost children and property.
I. H.
Local park to us great place to take the kids lots for them to, and nice cafe.
S. b.
Absolutely fantastic place but more dog owners with dogs of the lead causing problems seen 4 arguments not a pleasant visit to be honest
M. R.
Excellent free park for children and there is a lovely little tea room at the Markeaton lane back entrance called "Parlour Tea Rooms" that's serves reasonably priced food, drinks and cakes
N. K.
Close to Derby university, perfect place for a walk, picnic and to take kids to the playground!
A. S.
I use to regularly come here as a kid, some.25 years ago. It's nice that I can do the same.with my kids, walking through the woods, feeding the ducks and playing on the spider web....
J. P.
Lovely park, ideal for dog walking, play areas, cafe etc. Great walk around the perimeter. Make sure you have enough change for parking!
M. M.
Excellent time there. Kids enjoyed it. Will be visiting soon.
A. S.
Great place for a walk with your dog & a great restaurant to get some calories back 😋
S. B.
Lovely big area for all the family. Big park that covers all age ranges. Lots of open space for picnics, gift shops, cafe and toilets all well placed. We really enjoyed the pedal boat. We will come here again.
J. S.

S. T.
Great Park tons to do if you have kids. Can't wait to finish exploring it.
W. S.
Always enjoy a ride out to Markeaton Park. Plenty to do for the children and tea shops nice. Car Park is expensive.
P. N.
Always a family favourite place to spend a few hours. We enjoyed a pleasant walled garden walk. Remembered trip up and down the lake in a motor boat as a lad.
A. K.
Great park for all ages always something to do.
T. O.
Love this park, has something for everyone. Passed through on our bikes and stopped for a lovely coffee. Kids play area is great, and lots of space to ride bikes, fly kites, have picnics and nice walks.
L. A.
Nice place to spend some hours. There is also a cozy coffee shop for take away hot/cold drinks and food.
L. M.
Good walk around and nice day out
S. G.
Nice place for a stroll and a picnic. Sad to see the railway has gone
J. L. J.
Very nice large grounds to look at & things to do is free
L. H.
It's a great park, the play area is good for kids of all ages. There are paddling pools, a big climbing centre for older kids, a skate park too. The cafe is lovely and not too expensive. Standard for park cafe prices. The parking is expensive though £2.50 for 2 hours £1.60 for one hour. Which is the only downside to the park.
S. M.
Had a great time there on Sunday at Party in the park, lots for all ages,I was celebrating my 72nd birthday with partners family, the youngest being 3& 2years ( great grand daughters) bouncy castle and slides for them,we ended up on the pedalos. FANTASTIC time was had by all.
J. J. (.
An excellent park to have a large event like race for life!
But equally excellent park to have a family picnic or afternoon walk! It gas plenty to keep everyone happy from a small complex of craft shops an excellent café and plenty of things to see and do plus a nice large green space to kick a ball around with the kids. And if you don't want to pack a picnic there's a Mc Donald's in walking distance!
Just bear in mind there is a charge for car parking at the Bundy centre!
J. G.
Excellent park to relaxing and enjoy with kids.
A. A.
Great place. My kids absolutely love it.
C. C.
Beautiful place, ice cream, Park Dinosaur hunting
L. B.
I walked the perimeter of the park on a gloriously sunny day. There were several dog walkers and other people around but it wasn't too difficult to maintain the 2 metres distance most of the time. Had a takeaway coffee from the Parlour Tea Rooms which was very good. Well worth enjoying!
C. H.
Great but didn't even scratch the surface but will be back
M. H. A. A.
A very nice and beautiful park. A lot of recreational activities available. Cycling, walking and even rowing nicely in the boat.
S. Z.
Lovely walk in this great park, full of memories
N. T.
Lovely place to visit with the kids... Especially when it's sunny 😊👌
S. S.
Great place for time out with kids. Under rated!
C. C.
Brilliant place for kids. No dogs allowed in the play areas but walk path around for dogs. Height barriers at the entrance to the car parks but these were open so we could park our motorhome. Free parking if you have a blue badge. Lovely paddling pool and play areas, donkey rides, crazy golf, skate park. We were so disappointed that the trains are no longer there tho!
Really busy in summer holidays
I. C.
Family time in the fun park, nice size place with plenty to keep a child amused. Staff on the gates keeping an eye on numbers, 150 max under COVID guidance, which was good to see and everyone seemed very pleasant enjoying the sun. Food / Ice-Cream Coffee as well nearby to keep parents healthy 🙂
P. R.
Lovely walk with the dog's but got a bit soggy today after the rain.
D. T.
Kids loved the play park and lots to do for all ages
L. O. (. J.
Always enjoy a visit. This time it was with my son and granddaughter on Father's Day. She painted a model cat at the pottery centre with her Dad's help. Also enjoyed the play area. Well worth spending time there
G. D.
Lots for children to do. A lovely park.
N. Y.
Fairly quiet there today, which is unusual. I guess it'll be crowded next week after lockdown is lifted. Big open spaces, shade under trees, lake, boating lake, stream, craft village, play area, crazy gold. Great for all ages!
A. J.
This park is beautiful. I went for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how big it was. There was a good sized parking area (pay and display) and a cafe area within the park. There was a play area for children, a small water area for children to play in which was closed due to covid and benches not too far apart to sit back and admire the greenery. I will definitely be returning in the new year.
K. W.
Always a lovely day out for the whole family. The park team do an amazing job maintaining the fields, plants and playground. Hopefully the paddle pools will be open this summer as that looks like it'd be a great activity for the little ones.
J. R.
Great outdoor day whether your'e having a relaxing walk, walking the dog or jogging. Really nice park, facilities and events. Downside parking costs are excessive.
l. g. o.
Nice. Spacious.. plenty to see. Nice spot for a picnic
P. P.
Brilliant day out for myself and my to boys aged 4 and 6
J. Y.
Nice walk round the garden centre then the craft village.
c. k.
Worth a afternoon walk with the whole family
k. s.
Always lots to do on this park for both adults and children
T. R.
Markeaton Park is a big area. There's plenty for the kids. Lots of grass and wooded areas to walk the dog. Ideal for picnics. A cafe and a food hut which has a wide selection of food and drink. There is also a large paddling pool open in the summer, crazy golf, go karts, inflatables and donkey rides.
N. R.
Great park to keep the kids entertained
K. L.
Nice cheap day out enjoyed the walk
R. K.
Had a nice afternoon out here with my husband and two young children. Lots to do, plenty to keep entertained. The climbing apparatus is not in use, however
M. M.
The park is beautiful and good site fantastic.
T.
Nice Park, lots of space. Have to pay for parking, can pay using phone app if no cash available. Lots of different areas to walk around. Not well signposted so you have to just walk and figure it out, but good quick walk for the dog.
M. B.
Do enjoy this local park. X
Please give priorty to disabled children using the specialised equipment. There is very little non walkers can do on there.
2 items for my daughter today. Xx felt a bit intimidated today. Xx
S. w.
Beautiful big park. Perfect for all ages. With a playing area for the little ones. A climbing frame and skateboarding rink for the teenagers. Orangery cafe for the adults. Beautiful place to walk and lovely relaxing water features. Also has a an activity area for pottery and other stuf . Didnt try that this time but will do next time I go.
L. K.
Great park. Well maintained and lots for the kids to do! Great walks and nature to view. Highly recommended for a half/full day out
L. H.
Loved its here great for all ages
Huge park
Lovely river with birds to feed or watch.
There a place u can grab an icecream or food .
There toilets
There's a boating/paddling pool & (wasnt open when i went 2 weeks ago) due to covid-19
Lovely big greenery and pathways definitely recommend but u do need to pay for carparking think it was 2 hours £1.50
S. A.
Great place to visit when the sun is out ,kids love it .
We take our tent and outdoor toys for the kids and some food and drink .
There is two sides of this park one where there is a huge grass area and one where there is a playground for kids and walk area .
Yeah so we can spend hours here and not get bored .
S. M.
Great place to take grandchildren on a budget. Lots to do plenty of seating areas to have lunch. Even better if you get the weather right.
L. M.
Kids had an excellent time but the prices really are overly priced to the captive audience. Need separate changing rooms for the paddling pool as couldn't even go to the loo for 30mins with two desperate children as every cubicle was rammed with children and people dripping wet, getting changed and the toilets we're generally a wet dirty mess. £5.20 for a 5minute bounce on a bouncy castle for two kids. Wrongly advertised prices for drinks at the café and for nearly 5pound for two tiny cups of coffee is extornaite.
S. B.
Very impressed with the whole site.
The playgrounds are especially good.
H. J.
I really love this park, plus it acts as two part because you can head to the parks for the kids or for a more tranquil walk on the other side where there is often icecream, or a fair sometimes too. My only bad point would be that I do wish they would get a card machine for parking. Not everyone has room for apps on their phone and I waste so much money in cash because it doesn't give change. Puts a downer on it every time I go
C. H.
Fun fair on build up at moment! Looks huge! Looking forward to the opening day!
J. C.
My local park as a child, always loved it.
C. T.
Great park to walk or run round for the colours at this time of the year
J. H.
We loved to be around. Lots of activities and fun today. The staff is dedicated and polite.
i. g. e.
I really enjoyed my stay in Derby and markeaton Park was the best place for me
A. H.
Lovely park with a variety of things to do. Definitely worth a visit!
M. J.
Lovely park. Great for children
D. R.
Nice place to chill if you can find a spot
M. M.
Good park, children's play areas has been done now and caters for children of all ages. Good place to relax, walk and enjoy.
E. A.
Been twice this week. What can't you love about markeaton? So much to do in the summer holidays. I do think the prices of activities are steep but luckily I only have the 1 child. Very clean and friendly staff
J. C.
A very pleasant walk to feed the ducks and have a ice cream. Our three and a half year old granddaughter loved the experience.
R. B.
Great range of activities set in lovely surroundings. Includes a paddling pool and a lake. Also an awsome ice-cream van doing sherbert covered flake 99's.
E.
liked it. Nice park
S. K.
The fields and open spaces were very clean and clear. Still clear social distancing going on, people keeping separate etc. The park however was very busy, full of kids and families etc. Some of whom had no concept of social distancing.
That said, there is sanitiser at each entrance to the kids play area which helps a little. And the park was very tidy.
J. B.
Fantastic park lots to explore. Enjoyed mibi golf
H. G.
Lovely park for a walk with the dog, an excellent ice cream from one of the waiting vans though sauce distribution might need some improvement!
£2.50 for 2 hours of parking but plenty of spaces.
Plenty of trees to hide under when the inevitable rain hits. And a nice duck pond for the dog to fall into it. You can easily spend all day here.
Recommend.
J. B.
Great place to take the kids for a day out out you can spend the whole day here if the weather is fine
y.
I hope that fly over plant more trees, you can't count your money if you can't breathe🌿
K. S.
Great place to take little ones. Lovely paddling pool and massive play area. Great place for a picnic.
r. s.
Good kids playgrounds and nice cafe at the house.
J. F.
We absolutely love this park.. The park is huge and fir all the years we have been visiting I'm sure we still haven't seen it all!! The park is Extremely clean and well maintained, council run I believe. there are plenty of shaded areas out of the sun, A large Paddling pool although freezing cold the kids love, they have staff in the area now so if you run into a problem they can help. The children's area is enclosed NO DOGS ALLOWED IN THE CHILDREN'S AREA although they can be outside the fenced area, not a problem. with play equipment for all ages, babies through to older more confident kids. There is a little boating lake, plenty of ducks to feed, mini golf, tea hut that sells icecreams to, (I don't think they sell food such as sandwiches?) and donkey rides (not something I agree with but there you go) plenty of parking, disabled badge holders park free, parking all day is £5. You can spend all day here with a picnic and the only cost would be parking. Because there is so much to do, (our children spend all day in the paddling pool) you don't have to spend money to have a fantastic day out. Well worth a visit, if you only go for the children's play area its definitely worth a visit. They also have other events going on throughout the year, best to check their website for updates.
10/10 from my family.
Z. L.
Great day out with he kids first time here. Remember change for the parking
D. C.
Fond memories of taking my son here, revisited with the two grandchildren 8 and 6 and had a fabulous time. Lots fir the children to do.
C. S.
It's suitable for disabled as it's mostly on the flat, & has paths all the way round, it has a lake with wild life, swans ducks etc & you can buy seeds from the shop, there are gift and children's items shops to walk in a courtyard area and a cafe and toilets. It has tennis and golf , and an adventure playground.
N. S.
Great large playing area with lots to do for the kids, gets very busy during peak season though.
P. S.
Wide open parkland, trees and lakes. Amazing playgrounds for kids (including a seasonal kids pool) and a delightful little craft village and café. What more could you ask for in a city centre park! Well worth a visit any time of year although it can get very busy during school holidays and bank holiday weekends!
L. M.
Plenty of activities to do during the summer months. Good orienteering course to go and do, for a nice walk around. Easy access all around :)
J. S.
Lovely spaces and nice cafe/craft/gift shop area. Parking reasonable at £2.50 for 2 hours and £5 max for the day. Beautiful scenery. Was quite busy when we went on a July Sunday but still plenty of space for people. With pandemic conditions the toilet queue was a bit of a bind, but they were free and we're running 2 full time attendants who kept them spotless and were really efficient. Only not 5 stars as the road access roundabouts is very busy and from much of the park you are just, though barely aware of it. Lovely afternoon out.
j. m.
Great family day out cheap fun
I. G.
Such an amazing park. We loved it!
C. P.
Fun for all ages. Massive paddling pool. Suitable for all ages. Rowing boats, donkey rides, pedalos, massive play area. We had a great day our 7 year old didn't want to leave! Parking £5 all day. No changing rooms, but there are toilets available. Park was very clean and tidy.
C. G.
Has so much for everyone. You can walk your dogs off lead all around the perimeter. There's a great playground for the children, and paddling pool. Crazy golf, courts for playing basketball, these have to be paid for, with pitch and putt. A cafe and some small shops in the courtyard. Boat rides in the summer and ducks to feed. Plenty of space and very well kept.
J. W.
Lovely park with lots of play opportunities for children
D. E.
Play ground too crowded. Asked to leave area after 30 minsto allow others to visit. Not particularly Covid safe! Service at cafe for outdoor seating slow. Was queuing for ages just for drinks. Rubbish bins over flowing and rubbish strewn across park from this over spilling. Needed emptying bins mor often ad Bank Holiday weekend and half term.
A. M.
Lovely place to visit. Lots for families with small children to do. A place to eat or take a picnic. I like walking my dog there.
I. E.
A really great place to spend a day with lots of activities for all the family. We played foot golf for the first time ever and had loads of fun.
C. G.
Great family venue. Car parking with charges.Super play areas for children. Plenty of wildlife and
Craft village worth a visit.
V. S.
I feel so fortunate to live so close to this wonderful park. There are so many different routes around it. The open space is great, especially in present times. The play area is excellent, as is the craft Village. Then coffee & cake at the Orangery is a must.
S. C.
The park itself, is kept beautifully despite being over 200 acres and considering it's proximity to the town centre is wonderfully peaceful with wildlife taking the visitors for granted. The tea rooms are clean with a basic, well presented menu and pleasant helpful staff. A lovely place for an afternoon or morning walk.
C. P.
funfair was great and well managed. the park as a whole has alot to offer for families; ice cream, boats, crazy golf and a big park! Nice walks too.
T. Y.
Massive place, a lake walk, park walk, paddling pool, bouncy castles, park, cafe, village craft centre, boats, had a brilliant afternoon will definitely go again and spend the day there.
J. H.
Lovely walks and wide spaces
S. M.
So many activities great for children and adults. You can go paddling in a pool, walk a donkey, row on the lake play crazy golf, go on the park, have a walk and you can play any sport or game on the grass. Thered a cafe and pedalos I'm sure theres much more to explore with the events going on. Love it, perfect for all ages.
P. G.
Kids love it however they have to wee in the bushes after 7 because they close the toilets for some reason.
D. P.
Great 2 days here... Boys enjoyed the splash pool... Park... Ice-creams... Very clean and well presented so much to do
C. P.
Well kept open air space for grandchildren
L. M.
Beautiful park, really impressed with the layout and tidyness. Coming back with grand children to use the wonderful childrens facilities and have a picnic. Would really recommend.
o. a.
Very nice park, but difficult to find toilets, I asked someone if they knew were they were, they were also looking, together we looked on the signs near the carpark - but nothing noted for toilets. Eventually we found near the cafe.
A. W.
Fantastic place for kids to burn off some energy. Paddling pool donkey play area grassy spaces food and a few shops excellent
R. J.
Nice Park. Great disc golf course.
A. P.
Lovely clean park with great spaces for children.
P. W.
A few good walks, a good place to take your dog. The carpark was full and it was very busy, its a very pleasant place to visit especially when the weather is with you
E. B. M. M. F. T.
Is this the best Park in Derby and Nottinghamshire? I'd ruddy say so hands down! Lots of space and trails to walk, ducks to feed, place to buy coffee, plenty of parking and the biggest children's playground with some long, fashioned slides and a giant pirate ship (very important if you you grew up up in the 80s and 90s).Also importantly it's near Maccy Ds so if you forget your pack up your sorted. My kids really love this park and I know why! The only thing I would say to improve upon is the parking needs of to have some sort of smart app implemention for the your phone such as Ringo, would make it easier than queueing up at the the machines!
M. A.
Fantastic country park!! With a nice big paddling pool and a boating lake! N also (not sure if it's in use) an assault course is also there! Like a go ape thing! ... N i remember correctly they used to hold a massive bonfire 🔥and fireworks 🎆 get together every year!! It used to get jammed packed!! N a big fairground too! ....but in the corona-virus times it's just a nice big country park for a few hours exercise. Good place.😊👌
J. H.
A lovely lovely park with a lot to do, outdoor paddling pool, huge playground and fantastic place for dog walking. Lovely friendly staff in the courtyard and cafe too.
S. E.
Really enjoyed the parkrun and scenery!
J. T.
Still not enough dog poop bins. Drunk man spoilt my walk. Lots of young children there today enjoying the hot weather.
S. Y.
Great place for kids, safe too with staff monitoring how many are in park, however was some older kids spitting on slide stopping others use it which was disgusting considering the current covid situation so was very unhygienic, staff were told and nothing was done. Other downside was cafe serving coffee we waited 40 mins and only 3 ppl were served in that time and were a.further 5 ppl.in front of us and considering these ppl were only buying hot drinks and the odd icecream it took ages and so many ppl walked away and it wasn't even a busy day staff were just very slow and too busy chatting. They could see line was long and nothing was done in end we walked away and came out of the park to get food and drink but they lost lots of customers that day all complaining. Could have understood if it was a busy day and ppl were ordering food but not one person in front of us ordered food just hot and cold drinks so waiting time was ages. We ended up going to Costa with out custom, if we had been served we would have stayed in park longer... so if u go I'd advice to take ur own food and drink unless u want icecream however even they are £3.50 each. Twice qe been and twice qe walked away so will take a flask next time.
K. E.
Great open space with so such to do with the grandkids. It was very well organized ensuring everyone got to have a go in the playground. (The is a queuing system). Will be going back to have a go on the boating lake!
S. G.
I enjoyed going here for a walk do much to see and do. Wished I had gone earlier in the day with a picnic. Can get drinks and ice creams from here but best to take picnic
A. K.
Absolutely amazing park, best one I have been to yet, if you count the walking and relaxing wise. Activities are nothing really that special and are family/kid oriented. There is plenty of distance to walk alone or with dogs too. Also, it might be slightly overpopulated in afternoons.
M. M.
Markeaton Park is lovely to visit with young children, we enjoyed a leisurely walk around the lake then the kids played on the slides, swings, roundabout etc. The craft Village has some interesting stuff, Paint a Pot and Jumping Clay are great for kids to enjoy being creative with painting or moulding. It's a nice park with a relaxing charm (when it's not too busy).
D. E.
Absolutely beautiful xx great to see so many happy children x

Beautiful park in summer and autumn winter, the different colours of leaves and the huge amount of things to do here. The craft village is well worth a visit and the craft shop has lots on offer. Take part in crazy golf or the adventure obstacles course have a coffee and cake or bacon butty in the cafe. Plenty to see and do and if anything you can enjoy the walk around the park and this doesn't cost a single penny..
D. A.
Love markeaton park and so close for us
M. P.
Nice park near town, lake, paddling pool and boating lake. Playgrounds for young and older children. One of our pastimes used to be to feed the swans, ducks, geese. Tea room where you can buy food, drinks, ice-cream etc. Plenty of parking, charges apply though. Grounds are ok, need some TLC I think, and a park ranger might be useful to prevent the 4 youths riding their monkey bikes at speed on the paths near the tearooms, where there were lots of toddlers, and young children on scooters and bikes. This was today.
G. T.
Lovely little park, perfect for that socially distanced get together with others. Parking is coin or app only. Lovely little kiosk in the middle serving hot drinks and snacks, and public loos round the back.
A. W.
Fair there today nature walks nice play area lovely £4 for 3hrs can pay online worth it ducks and waterfall woods
R. R.
Awesome place for the little ones. Plenty of parking (paid). Huge playground area and lots of nature. My daughter had a blast.
J. H.
Fantastic!! So much for the children to do, they loved the paddling pool & pay area which is well thought out to be inclusive & fenced all round. There's a range of activities you can pay for too. The car park is cheap, it's a lovely place to ride bikes or just go for a walk.
M. A.
Great days out for the family. Plenty to keep your children entertained. I don't know any where else that has a paddling pool.
K. H.
Lovely park with everything you could want and need! Toilets, little hut selling snacks, bouncy castle, go carts, lots of climbing frames with slides etc, swings, little skate park, paddling pool, cafe, and lots of beautiful walks with areas to feed the ducks! Perfect day out 🙂 There is even paint your own pottery but we didn't get time to do that.
S. B.
Hi rearly enjoyed it, kids loved it as well, 😆
k. b.
My friend and I came to visit on Sunday. We are both gluten free so we're a little worried about finding lunch. we stumbled across your pizza kiosk and were introduced to Martin who made us a beautiful pizza, he also informed us that they do gluten free bread in the cafe and gluten free cake at the orangery, if course we had to try the cake, it did not disappoint!! Thank you Martin and the orangery!
My only niggle is the entrance, it's was my first time driving there and we missed the entrance twice and had to get back onto that awful roundabout.
Top marks for customer service, we will definitely be back soon.
K. W.
Pleasant walks around the park, Orangery cafe busy and long queues due to Covid restrictions but well worth visiting the park. Large children's play area well used including skater/scooter zone.
a.
love this place,my children are to old for the park now but I enjoy the walks with my 2 dogs.
R. H.
Lovely place to take the kids with so much variety. Summer months especially good as have huge paddling pool and boating lakes in operation bot to mention ice creams, play areas to suit all ages and ponies and electric children's cars round the track. Could easily spend all day here with the family. Ample parking
L. D.
Love this park. Great playground and good walks.
V. B.
Lovely walks place to get coffee and sit to drink it. Ducks to feed craft village enjoyed it. Will go again

We as Derby residents particularly whom live near by Market Park are blessed to have such an amazing park in our community.
I personally go there 3 times a week to do my exercises since the lockdown and spend 1 hour each time.
The park immensely spacious, tidy, safe and have kids playground, seating chairs, eating chairs and tables, football playground and so on.
I just hope every one who goes there, feel responsible to keep the park tidy and keep it as it is.
S. M.
Lovely large park with a well cared for play area, gardens and fields. Easily accessible from major routes with ample (paid) parking and plenty of amenities. Plenty of wide paved paths at a gentle gradient make it accessible all year round, and good for kids learning to ride bikes or skates. We've never yet felt the need to pay extra for the bouncy castle, donkey rides, mini-golf, miniature train displays etc because the park is so good for a runaround, but there's loads of extra bits to do here. The kids love it.
S. B.
Good playing facilities for the kids. Doesn't seem to be any free from food at any of the cafes. If you pay for the car park with your phone they add 10p as a service charge and 10p per message if you ask for reminders on your time limits. Gets very busy during the summer holidays. We went when it was really hot at the beginning of August and we couldn't even get into any of the car parks they were all full and they were turning people away. The cafe is expensive for what you get but the staff are polite and helpful.
D. D.
Been coming to Markeaton since I was a child, now I bring my dogs. Lovely grounds & beautiful lake with the ducks & swans. Plenty of places to walk on paths all over the park. Little coffee shop which is nice especially in the summer where you can sit outside 😊
d. b.
Very good park
R. H.
Really enjoyed this park.
There is so much to do!
The playground is fantastic. You can hire boat or pedalo. There are canoes and go karts for the kids. There were donkey rides and bouncy castles.
And in the summer they have an outdoor paddling pool.
The grounds are lovely to walk round too.
Cant wait to return and spend more time in this lovely park.
P. E.
To get to know the park follow the purple (3.7km) route which will take you around most of it. There are many very mature trees here, the result of it previously being the gardens of a hall for the gentry. There's a cafe, creative studios and workshops, lake, waterfall, play area, etc. A great city park. Had car parking, surfaced trails ok for wheelchair users. Sensory garden.
I. Y.
Brilliant park. Plenty to do for a family from taking a train tour to walk/run round the park. Plenty of Greenland to enjoy in summer. If you are thinking of a picnic out then this is the place. There is a play area for children for varying ages, outdoor swimming pool for kids, lake to take your boats (conoes, pedalos available to hire) and if you time it right you may also find yourself in the middle of an event. Toilets facilities are also available. Our kids love it and is always on our list to go to on a good summer day.
K. s.
Extremely tidy and a nice walk. Loads to see and do.
M. R.
Lovely Sunday with family and friends can't wait until the rest of the things to do are open, like the paddling pools or high rope but there were still enough to do for a nice day out with ice cream 😊
Parking prices where a little high but if they were cheaper I may not have got a space
A. S. (.
lovely place to go for the day especially with the kids, great renovated play area, nice little shops and craft centre, toilets clean, mini golf, childrens pool we even played poo sticks in the river which was fun. Kids loved it we loved it, made our Sunday great. have to pay for parking and only takes change so beware. things to improve on would be to make the parking machines except card payments.
N. G.
It's a great park with lots to do - the outdoor pool is a great asset. The model railway is really enjoyable and our boys always love going there. It's such a shame that the mini train is no longer open! Some of the prices of activities are a little expensive, especially if you have three children. The main toilet block by the pool also needs a revamp. Great overall.
I. O.
Fantastic park
G. M.
What an amazing space? The children could run around, play ball games, and what freedom, after 12 weeks of lockdown. It did help that the weather was warm and sunny. It is a well kept space.
A. O.
Great play areas; one for younger children, pirate ship for slightly older and then a climbing web for older still. Great paddling pool (with chlorine) and you can pay to play crazy golf. It has a cafe and good facilities round by the craft village. Parking is pay and display.
B. R.
Great park. Good walks, good craft shops great play area for kids.
Visited during easing of lockdown so a few things not open but apart from that it has wide walkways so felt very safe
A. K.
Good location, huge green area. You can hire a pedalo or a canoe in the lake. Good for cycling. Many people walk their dogs there. Park run on Saturday 9 am is great too. Ample (paid)Parking.
T. T.
Great place with lots to do. Walking , feeding ducks , play area . Some shops and crafts . Cafe . Lots of car park space with a charge but ot to much. Highly recommended
C. C.
Lots of lovely open spaces to enjoy social distancing picnics! Toilets were strictly 'one in, one out' and were supervised by 3 members of staff, who stood outside equipped with hand sanitiser for users to apply after their turn! However, I do think users should have had the hand sanitiser available to them on the way in too as everyone was potentially touching the same part of the toilet door on entry. There were 2 toilets available in the ladies, (one for men) but 2 people were only allowed in at the same time if they were from the same household, otherwise it was 1 person only. There were 3 sinks available inside too with soap and water for hand-washing, but all other sinks and dryers were taped off. Queuing outside was clearly marked and was fine as it was a warm day, but if you are desperate for the loo or the weather is bad, it could be a problem! The staff were very accommodating to parents with children who were desperate and they allowed them to use the disabled toilet when it was free. The only negative we had at the park was that the toilets closed earlier than we expected. We assumed they closed at 6pm, but it was sometime before that when we were there on a Saturday afternoon in July. The park was still pretty busy when we left at 6pm, so not sure how all those people managed without toilet facilities for the rest of their stay?!
A lovely park that we will definitely visit again.
s. k.
Well it would have been better if it wasn't raining. But I do wish that places like this were more dog friendly. There are quite a few people that walk there dogs here. But when it is raining if they want a drink they have to sit outside so I think there should be some where they can have a drink when it is raining. There are some garden nursery s that are dog friendly.
A. k.
Its not only just a park but also a sports center. It have playgrounds for cricket, golf, basketball, tennis and many other games. It also has a running and jogging tracks.
C. S.
Visited today for the first time in 20 years, and it's still as brilliant as I remember. Beautiful clean water in the puddling pool and crazy golf was very reasonably priced. My 18 month old daughter and 10 year old nephew both had so much fun.
S. C.
Great coffee shop lovely outside space x
S. D.
Nice park. Lots to enjoy. Boat hire place has terrible service would avoid that at all costs.
M. G.
Great park with fantastic play equipment for the children. My 3 year old loves it there.
Plenty of ducks to feed.
We have never been in the summer but we are looking forward to going this year as the paddling pools look like they will be great fun!
The shops are okay for a wander around too, although the cafe could be a little better.
M. S.
Really good little day out! Well layed out and staff were great! The bird show was entertaining and informative, me and the kids loved it!
L. R.
Recently found some really nice walks around this park. Most are pathed out. The lake is a nice peaceful spot. The cafe do a really lovely hot chocolate too!
J. C.
It's been a lovely day a nice park to spend time on. The boats have been open on the lake. The Fair's there so it has been busy. A good place for the kids plenty for the them to do on the mundy play center as the new crazy golf's open now as well
D. R.
Such a great place. Lots for the little ones to do and also nice for a walk if you want to get away from the city. All of the play things and other facilities are well kept/maintained. I'd highly recommend visiting.
r. W.
Carparking available, not enough baby swings, although there was a separate area for younger children. Nice place to take children
D. C.
My children love markeaton Park
And we go often. It's a great place to visit lots to see and do for the kids 😀
O. P.
Lovely place to visit.Every family should take there children there where they can have hours of fun. Can't wait until everything reopens again.
T. K.
Great park for families. Kids play park is brilliant and plenty of space. There is a crafts centre with public toilets.
V. R.
This is like a big green oasis in the city. Very nice park with extensive grounds and plenty to see. Welcomes dogs off the lead (as long as they are well behaved). Parking is not free - we paid £2 for 2 hours, although there are plenty of spaces. There is some historical interest in the form of preserved ruins, a craft village with a number of shops in a large courtyard, a cafe (we didn't go in, so I can't comment on the food/prices), open fields, woodland, a lake etc. There are great play areas for children, with a high ropes course (although this wasn't in use when we were there). The toilets were incredibly clean and warm - the best public toilets I have been in for a long time. We visited twice over the weekend when we were staying locally. Definitely worth a visit.
R. L.
Great place , nice walking .
M. (. (.
My 2 year old loves showing off his skills on his balance bike here. He enjoys the play area too
M. T.
Lovely place, so much to explore. Will definitely be coming back.
Love the fact the coffee shop is open too and they do a large selection of veggie food.
I. M.
Fantastic for children and adults alike dog walkers or just peaceful stroll plenty of things for kids to play on
J. M.
Has been one of my favourite parks in Derby, since I was a small child!! 😊❤️
Although it has been drastically updated since then, it still attracts thousands of people a year!! Great for kids, great for family time. I'd also recommend it for just going to chill out in the park by yourself/in a couple or see some of the more interesting spaces they have such as: the gardens, the crafts village.. The waterfall and geese/ducks 🤭(always a favourite of mine as a child)
It's just a great place to "Just Be" ❤️😊
S. C.
Lots of things to do, plenty of parking. Beautiful surroundings. Good walking for all ages. 5*****
R. B.
Parkrun then a coffee after. A top morning
C. T.
Best park in the city of Derby
A. L.
Good park for jogging, running and walking. Plenty of space for social distancing too and a few wooded paths away from the tarmac bit. Nothing special, but nice and local to everywhere in DE1 1FZ
K. B.
Absolutely fantastic time. Great park and paddling pool was good fun too. Will definitely be back. xxx
J. L.
Recently visited the Christmas fare, rather disappointing, very few rides open, perhaps 1/2 dozen people there?
Great for picnics and young kids..
Being a council car park, as usual the pay and display ticket machines are cash only.
Otherwise, the park is good for kids and families
A. D.
Nice place for the whole family 👪
C. M. (.
Amazing place to walk around and run too. The park is kept very clean and the events that happen in the area are amazing. From fun runs to the Craft Village events. It is one of the best parks I have been to. I would definitely recommend.
F. P.
Such an amazing park. Easy to navigate with a diverse of areas for the family and open grounds for sporting activities and picnics. Such a gem close to city centre. Check out their crafts village.
L. F.
We love visiting Markeaton Park. Plenty of things for the kids to play on, with a great paddling pool. The recent upgrade to the crazy golf area is excellent although a tad overpriced 🤔 in my opinion.
The cafe in the courtyard has a good menu for light bites and serves lovely ice cream.
A big park with plenty of room for ball games and get-togethers.
H. S.
Overall a lovely day out for all the family, today's visit was mainly for the skyline ropes. Staff was very helpful and polite, and both my children really enjoyed their experience, however a little dissapointed that the zip line and rock climbing wall was out of use for health and safety reasons but this isn't stated on the website and we had pre booked online.
R. W.
So much fun for all the family. World class play area, canoes, go karts, high-wires, brand-new crazy golf, well-kept donkey rides, boating lake, craft Village, wildlife galore. And so much more. Best Park bar none.
R. D.
Great for walking the dog, be even better when all the attractions open up after lock down. Don't forget to pay for your parking though!
D. S.
A great local park, with lots of things to for all the family. Our 3 year old granddaughter loves the Mundy play centre and Dex our border terrier loves the woods.
R. F.
A lovely park with lots for the kids to do most for free. Watch your car parking ticket because time flies by.
A. D.
Really great park. There is a walled garden where you can buy different plants and some produce, local craft shops selling hand made things and great places to walk. Even a small cascade to get lost in the sound of rushing water...
M. G.
Markeaton Park always makes for a great day out with the kids. We go a few times a year and there's plenty to keep them occupied within the free play park, paddling pool, wooded walks and open grassy spaces we've not done any of the extra activities such as canoes, rowing boats, bouncy castle, pony rides, high ropes or crazy golf so haven't looked at how expensive they are yet. Maybe check something out next time!
H. H.
It's great to have such a lovely open green space so close to the city centre. The cafe is great and next to it is the craft village. Newly built toilets and a revamped play area were much needed. Paddling pool. Kids cars. Crazy golf. Adventure Park. There's elf doors hidden in the trees too. Does always appear to be clean and well maintained.
B. M.
Great park, lots to. Do for children and grownups of all ages. Small craft village and refreshment stands dotted around. Boating lake open some of the year. Now there is also a high top adventure for older children and adults.
S. L.
A really big park, great to take children to practice bike riding etc, a pond to feed ducks, a cafe to get a hot or cold drink and you can paint pottery aswell
J. S. (.
Great Park, a fantastic place for the family, a dog walk, spotting some wildlife, a picnic or a round of golf. They have some great activities and attractions throughout the year so pretty much something for everyone. Cafe, snack shop and ice cream van so opportunity for a treat. Crafts and creative ideas if rowing or tennis sounds like hard work! Definitely a great place to get some fresh air and some family time.
J. R.
Good place to take your daily walk. Good paths and fairly tidy. Some areas waterlogged but should improve with the drier weather
S. H.
It was really good. The pool was good it is deep and shallow so good for all ages. They have donkey rides, canoeing, bouncy castles, 2 parks and more fun things like that. You can go in the different shops like a craft and toy shops. You can take dogs but you just can't take them into the main pool area. It is good for all ages. There is a bike ramp and other things what you can use your bikes and scooters and that on. My cousin went with me today and she is 17 and has crutches and a broken leg and she still had an amazing time. So why not go and have a visit it is very worth it. X
T. N.
The play park here is great and provided that you're willing to spend a bit more, the paid for attractions are also good too such as the donkey rides (which I think are seasonal), the cars etc. The only issue I had is with the parking. It only takes coins with no option to pay with card or via an app, so if you don't have change then you could find yourself struggling to pay for the parking, which isn't that cheap!!
E. S.
It was really good however after being there for a little while they put a message out over the tannoy that if you had been there more than half an hour then could you please leave as a queue was forming, I completely understand it's to make it fair but I'd paid for 2 hours car parking so it was a bit annoying to be asked to leave.
K. B.
Loads of activities for kids to do an a beautiful place all round. Plenty of fields for dogs to play thoe was expecting more woodland an not as good as was told by others. If got children then definitely a place to go
N. D.
So much to do specially for the little one, and nice picnic spots as well. Facilities available, cafe and a little shop too.
i. g.
Nice, quiet Park
A. J.
Just visit it. No need to check reviews. Great feeling any time of the year. Nice walking path around the park. Flat path as well as extended path through thick woods. Lovely!
W. G.
We arrived at Markeaton park with 3 active grandchildren aged between 8 and 11. We visited the model train building and were most impressed. Once inside we were greeted by the most interesting people who had lots of interesting things to tell about the trains. The models worked by activating buttons which the children could press. The children also enjoyed the activities on the park e.g the rope climbing and slides etc. We spent several hours and finally went for drinks in the cafe at the craft square. This was fairly expensive but welcome! There were some great water birds e.g merganser and grebe and the wooden sculptures were interesting. Car parking cost around £1 per hour. We will be back in summer for some other great activities.
A. M.
Really nice park for a walk. The craft village is a good place to paint a pot or buy some chocolate. In summer the park had a swimming pool. Fairs come and set up. There is mini golf, donkey rides and extensive play areas. Think they have pedalos too. Parking is about £2 for 2 hours
A. D.
We loved this place, it can get a little pricy if you want to do the activities but these are not essential. If you want a cheap day park and free very large paddling pools, take a picnic and still a lovely day out. Very enjoyable, very recommended and lots to do
D. S.
Really good place to visit
M. D.
Great for the kids. and some lovely walks
S. J.
A great place for a family day out.
With a rowing lake, a miniature railway, a water park, a giant climbing structure as well as a smaller one in the kiddies playground, golf, cricket, tennis, plenty of room to kick a ball about, tea room, courtyard shops and probably more I've missed, pack a picnic and go for the day.
Just one complaint, please please please do something about the parking.......
It's such a popular place that on a hot day you will not be able to park, not enough spaces.
S. A.
Always a pleasure! Gardens immaculate. Play area fantastic, clean and safe as well as free! Initiative used when planning 'find the painted eggs' and then re hide them for the next person to find. Donkey ride a bit short though but cafe lovely and really nice, helpful staff. Thank you.
B.
Great place for all ages we all loved it. Play grounds for different ages and little shops and ice cream vans scattered about.
J. S.
Gorgeous place to go with the family. Massive park complete with childs play area and climbing frame. Fishing lake that you can hire a pedalo or row boat in summer. Local craft shops and cafe. Smaller shallow lake for children to hire a row boat. Mini golf and a new donkey ride was set up recently. Used to have a bouncing castle. Also a shallow pool for the kids to play in that is only turned on in summer. Easy access by foot but awkward entry by car as you can easily get confused on the main roundabout and take the wrong exit. Parking is a ok at £5 for 4 hours. Also have a small train museum and tennis/basketball court. Plenty to do and lovely place to spend the day with family having a picnic.
A. F.
Excellent park ever to visit and enjoy your day with your kids or love's one it's absolutely great and wider park and big car parking as well
C.
Great for kids ,sanitizer for hands on entry to park, did have to queue but not for long. Good park for children of different ages, nice walk round to feed ducks , see horses plus you have mini golf, have to queue at a different part for that.
S. M.
Very nice skatepark :)
M. R.
I just love this place. Great for a walk with the dogs and a super park for the kids to run off steam. The outdoor paddling pool is great for summer days out and there are manicured gardens to walk round if thats your 'thing'. Ameneties : cafe & toilets & car park (paid).
S. M.
I mostly walk through the park to and from the university from the mundy play centre car park, but I walk around the play centre where the cars are, I walk past the pond where kids can row, they have a huge climbing wall and separate play area. If you don't have kids, that's fine because it's a beautiful place to walk around or picnic in. It starts off my visits to uni nicely, no matter what the weather.
A. F.
Gorgeous park.... loads of space if you have kids or a dog
N. B.
Massive park that’s great for the whole family. Everything you could wants from a park and more. Massive kids play ground. Nice tea room and craft shops in the court yard. Defiantly worth a visit in good weather.
J. R.
Clean park ,truly enjoyed our walk today .very well maintained, only issue was the parking had change to pay but as soooo pricey obviously not enough to pay for time we wanted to stay ,and NO CARD payment options !!! Very disappointed. There was an app to download and do that way but phone not on me at the time .
M. K.
A lovely expansive Park, with a a nice Cafe, Ice Cream stand and a few craft shops. There's also a good sized boating lake with Pedalos and Rowing Boats. The cafe sells a range of food including Jacket Potatoes and Cream Teas. In fine weather there are lovely outside seating areas. An ideal place to take the kids, or to while away an hour or so with a good book.
Nearby there is a small garden centre and a great Children's play area.
K. H.
Lovely park with lots to do! Car parking is pay and display. This park gets very busy at the Mundy play centre during the summer. The rangers here a great hard working bunch whom appreciate considerate park users. Make sure to bring plenty of water and sun cream over the summer holidays.
M. Č.
Great place, nature, ideal for walk or run activities. Dont forget you need pay for parking, price starting on 1,60£ 1hour 🙉
Enjoy guys 👌
L. N.
Great place to take the children to play. Lots of space to walk and run, stimulating playgrounds and a paddling pool for those hot, sunny days. Walk in the woods, feed the ducks or have a drink or snack in the orangery. Our grandson loved it.
L. A.
Nice place to relax and enjoy the nature :)
