M. S.Wow, I've never walked along this cycle path and boy i wasn't disappointed. I should of done it years ago. It have everything. Great flat roads for cycling, apart from 2 dips. Children play park. Great gardens on one side of the path and wild on the other side. Theres a woodland walk and so many paths to explore. I followed the river and I was amazed at what I found. Spotted a heron 😲 my first, mother duck with her duckling, lambs and some bright yellow dippers. Plenty of bird songs. A great peace walk with plenty of seats and picnic tables. Even free parking. I was well impressed, would recommend it if you wanting a walk nearer to home. Even thank you cycling sign and no dog doo.
I. P. (. S. M. T.Flat stretch between Durham and Lanchester is 15km long. Perfect for cycling, running, walking. Not so great for walking a dog, in my view, because of the cyclists and not much other entertainment for a dog.
Great views, especially in autumn colours.
There is a cafe working 7/7 closer to Durham, just on the side of the track. You can probably find shops/cafes close by if you cycle of the path on the whole stretch. Many children's playgrounds are visible from the path. I like carved wooden benches near Lanchester to take a break and eat an apple if you take your kids cycling with you. This track is perfect for your family, very easy with practically no elevation change.
