Reviews of Meanwood Park
M. S. A.
A lovely park with an excellent play area for children of all ages - variety of play equipment (climbing net, roundabouts, swings, slides, rock climbing, doughnut swing, monkey bars) plus the stream adds an extra interesting walk. With plenty of bridges in between with lovely small waterfalls.
K.
Lovely park, very peaceful. Has basketball court and tennis court and play area for the kids.
J. D.
Nice park, the streams were full due to the amount of rain we had had. A nice old bridge to walk over. Nice to be out in the country but close to the city too. A good cafe with lovely hot chocolate and really yummy cakes and a free toilet. Children's playground also included a children's climbing wall. Lots of people with dogs on leads. Lots of areas to have a picnic when the weather is good.
B. W. (.
Such a wonderful park. It has many different paths that can be taken and is just a beautiful park. I feel very lucky to live next to it.
M.
Such a beautiful place to visit whatever the weather...well done to Leeds council..the whole city is a credit to the investment they have returned making it a fantastic place to be..the park is a real gem ...well done Leeds...I love your city.x
h.
One of my fave place to be!! Perfect for all the family.
Cafe is absolutely lovely, especially the cakes and hot chocolate.
Options for everyone available.
Very muddy at certain times if year.
I. M.
Great little park , with nice forest paths
m. t.
A good sized park and not too busy, my only problem is that a large section of grass has been left to overgrow. This is one of the flatter parts and is usually great for Acro.
i. r.
Amazing walk round, small play park, cafe extremely busy and coffee was luke warm, lovely walk through woods, over bridges, lots of streams, people moving aside to pass. Wasn't as long as I thought but still lovely to explore!
L. C. S. (.
I love to walk in this park with my grandsons who live in the area. Watching it change through the seasons gives me a lot of pleasure. I love seeing the beck shift from higher to lower water levels, sometimes calm, sometimes rushing by. This is a beautiful place to enjoy the woods or the ducks, watch the trees bloom in the spring, and occasionally have a delicious little snack from the cafe.
A. L.
What a beautiful park that makes you feel like you're far away from the city. They have a nice cafe open 7 days a week, serving drinks, snacks, lunches and pastry. It's pet friendly as well so you can bring your doggos for a walk. Even saw a couple of horses! The meanwood valley trail passes through so a great stop while on your walk or even the start of the trail. Can't wait to go back again soon.
A. G.
Great park for a walk!🚶
k. r.
Very nice walk around to explore nature. Out of the way which is nice and not many people go so it's a good place to get away for a while. Lovely
J. B.
Best park in Leeds, hands down! Worth a visit if you like going outside.
E. G.
Loved it, you can get lost and walkthrough small pathways, I loved walking around Hollies their beautiful garden, children and dog friendly
A. M.
A lovely place to visit both The Park and The Hollies. A large estate of woodlands to explore, with a pretty little stream through its centre.
Basketball courts, tennis courts, open grass areas and long walks all available for free.
Lots of parking available nearby. Well worth a visit.
T. S.
I don't even know where to start with this place. During the lockdown, it's one of those places that has been keeping me safe. The park is clean, and well looked after. I love the old bridge.
The cafe is only getting better, but has been too busy even during lockdowns.
G. B.
Its a very nice place to visit. Its got a lovely route to go on and lots of wildife around you. There's a lovely little cafe at which you can get drinks, lunch, cakes and ice cream. They have toilets and seating inside and outside. Its a very nice place to visit.
D.
Great park, although the play ground does need a little love given how popular it is.
J. W.
Impressed with park facilities for the children and cleanliness. We walked through the woods to get to the park and were pleased with cleanliness and lack of litter in there. It is lovely to see it being used by lots of people and that they appreciate the area and leave it as they found it for others.
L. L.
No bad for a short walk 😊
M. H.
Fantastic part of Leeds and must be visited by everyone who is in the area.
So much appreciated by past generations and will certainly be treasured by future generations.
love Meanwood park in all seasons, it's perfect for family days out, dog walking, picnics, jogging, bike rides or just somewhere to relax.
A huge variation of different areas are hidden into this park, with rivers and streams and a deeper wooded area called the Hollies accessible from here (which has tennis courts free to play). Mystical wooded areas to chill out in.
S. E.
Well maintained grounds. Little litter if any. Lovely cafe to enjoy tea and cakes or a soft drink. Lovely walk via the meanwood valley trail through the woods opening out into the park. Slides and swings also present for the children to enjoy. Clean, friendly and safe.
R. T.
Lovely place to walk round. Love bringing the dogs here for a good run around and swim.
S. B.
A very pleasing walk. Loved the Valley trail and will definitely be doing it again. I just wish there were more signs around to direct you as I literally had to google map my way around.
D. S.
Lovely park. I grew up in a house backing on to the park and never get tired of going here. Went for a nice 2 hour walk with my new puppy today and went deep into the woods. Brought back some lovely memories from my childhood of exploring the woods. Highly recommend going here and theres also a cafe there now. Just wish there was more parking.
M. B.
Peaceful and quiet place. Good for hanging out with family. pet friendly. Overall recommending this place.

Meanwood park is a wonderful place to go to any time of year weather to play sport , walk the dog or just to site , it's History is long and Interesting as is the History of the beck that runs through the park .
M. C.
A hidden gem in Leeds. Very beautiful place to visit and spend a day walking around nature. The only thing to be aware is to bring waterproof shoes, specially if it was raining in the past few days.
L. B.
Beautiful scenic route, a lovely surprise so close to the city.
J. P.
Really nice park with a great café.
M. B.
Lovely park. From wide green spaces to woodland a a river running through. Beautiful in all seasons

J. D.
Always like a wander round this park. Cafe is also worth a visit. Limited parking
R. K.
Nice Park with a decent cafe on site, only has a small car park though.
N. F.
There's big open, alit of woodland paths. It was boggy but that's expected at this of year. I went with my dog. Lots of other friendly dogs running around. The cafe is really nice. A bit on the expensive side but the quality was brilliant. The sausage rolls are absolutely massive.
S.
Nice walks
Nice play park
Nice cafe
S. T.
Great park! Perfect for families or anyone looking for a nice walk. Has everything you need; picnic benches and a cafe, playground, grassy area, wooded hilly walk, stream with some ducks and if you go further it connects to the Hollies for a nice walk along the water. I love getting an ice cream or drink here and just sitting watching the stream. Been told by my friend its great fir dogs as well, with the grass area good for running and ball throwing and water for paddles!
M. C.
Nice for a stroll if you avoid the mud
H. C.
Beautiful place!
P. W.
Nice place for a steady stroll for all ages .great for dogs .kids and adults alike.
D. B.
Great woodland walk with lots of forest and streams to explore.
J.
Gorgeous and huge, connected to the Hollies (I don't know if it counts as the same place). Has a play area which is usually busy on sunny days and an interesting (very slanted) small football pitch. Has a river running through it and there are always dogs playing in this park. There is also a café and a basketball court.
There is a road that runs through the middle of it, but it is only to connect some houses to meanwood village, and so there's rarely cars on it so it doesn't ruin the atmosphere.
V. D.
Small but diverse park. Has open fields, river, woods and rocks. Very tranquil.
a. w.
Nice walks and lovely quite space to get away from the city.
Bet it's beautifull in the summer.
Visited on the 9th of January 2022.
Only downfall Is that the public toilets were closed and this really needs addressing as some people have health issues were they need public toilets
(Is it legal to sell drinks at a near by cafe and not provide toilet facilties).
J. A.

O. W.
Really nice place close to the centre of town
C. M.

Y. W.
A beautiful park close to Headingley and Meanwood. Perfect for a pleasant walk, running and even a picnic. Can be slightly muddy so better put on hiking boots. Try some of the trails in the woods, special scenery guaranteed.

This is such a beautiful park. I lived here in leeds for yeara and had no idea just what a special place it is. I park at the cottage road carpark LS64EL and grab a coffee and cake
Its great for a 30 minute leg stretch or you can spend a day exploring and doing a circuit
B. B.
An excellent place to visit great walks. Ruins of old industrial buildings and very scenic. Well done another visit.

Such a lovely park nice playground and a duck pond. Plenty of water falls and bridges to explore. Lovely cafe a little over priced but worth it for the quality. Great place to take kids toddlers and dogs.
T. A.
I go here for a run and to keep my dog happy daily. It's great for everyone: families with kids, dogs, joggers or people who just want to take a nice walk. I personally love it. The dogs can drink water from the creek or cool down. It's super easily accessible and you can also extend your walk to The Hollies. It has a rocky patch that is wonderful for exercise.
E. A.

R. L.
Just walking through early on, sat on bench by stone bridge near Hustlers Row listening to water from Meanwood Beck rush over the weir ...
T. B.
This is a great park for a family trip out. Nice little playground, but also has a river and extensive woodland for exploring and playing. Nice cafe too and usually an ice cream van! Park on the street and walk a couple of mins to the park at busy times to avoid getting trapped in the car park!
R. G.
Delightful and unspoilt piece of heaven just north of Leeds city centre. I've been visiting this park since I was a child back in the late 1950s, it has changed very little in that time. Great for walking the dog or just a pleasant stroll along the stream. Very tranquil and natural looking. You really feel miles away from it all here. R Gill
N. A.

Beautiful park with some lovely woodland walks. You can get to Golden Acre Park and the Seven Arches via the Meanwood Valley Trail 💜💛
S. X.
Beautiful public space. Great for dogs, kids, picnics, fresh air and long (or short) walks.
J. S.
Good quality courts. Would be much better though if they could add straps to the middle of the courts with weights. Not only are the nets too high but wind blows them up.
K. E.
nice park , clean and reasobley priced cafe with cheerful and polite staff.
G. F.
One of Leeds hidden gems. Beautiful park with lovely cafe, former estate of family of Captain Oates, who died on Scott's expedition.

Lovely park with a small playground and lots of space for kids to run. Stream with poohstick bridges and a weir.
H.
Lovely big park. Lots of green and the trail is a wonderful feature
M. b.
It's a lovely well maintained Park. Has free parking but only approx 50 places. Hence the 4 star. It has good walking, woods stream and children's playground. Now there is also a cafe by the parking lot. Great for dog walking and I would recommend a visit.
J. M.
Lovely park with lots of greenery and walking trails
J. C.
Quite a nice park with a small beck running through it. There's a play area for children, a really pricey cafe and an ice cream truck. I've only given 3 stars as if you're not keen on dogs then you're not going to like it. I counted around 100 there today, with most not on leashes.
L. B.
Large green spaces, woodland to wander through and a playground. Lovely place to visit with a young family. There are also benches if you wanted to bring a picnic
A. I.

M. S.
Born and bred in meanwood so this place holds a place in my heart, so many good memories ........always worth a visit nice little coffee shop as well
A. M.
A natural choice if you're visiting Meanwood, always a nice place to take a walk, there's also a lot of dogs being walked there and they're all so friendly, on a side note I got kicked off of a ledge by a friend, fun times
D. H.

G. P.
Brilliant park, very doggy friendly. Lots of space for them to run, in the woods, streams, parks.
Very family friendly, parks and swings. Woods to explore
Brilliant little cafe after your walk and you can take the whole family including the doggy.
Well with a visit.
J. W.
From childhood to now this park is lovely.
The children's play area now needs some work doing on the safety mats under and around the childrens swings slides etc, general maintenance needed. But lovely park all on all.
N.
Lovely green spaces and lots of covered woodland walks too. The bridges are very pretty and seems good for families as well.
D. B.
Fantastic park and Woodlands Who would think it's in the suburbs of a large city.
s. S.
Lovely walk for the dog but the paths need a bit of work in places
T. H.
Very nice park lots of lovely dogs (I like dogs) 😁
M. J. J.
My kids love going here, there is a free onsite parking, a cafe which is based in the car park, a picnic bench eating area, you can have a lovely walk around the river which bring you to the play park with plenty of things to play on for the children, inside and outside the park. Outside the play park there's a big green open field with goal post so you can have a game of football or any game you like to play. I visit here on a regular basis to stretch my kids legs.
A. N.
Very nice place for walking and trail running !!! No rubbishes, pathes clean!!!
H. B.
Born and raised in Meanwood so I'm not going to be bias but the park is very underrated, I truly think people do not realise what a monumental place the park is and how adventurous A+
L. K.
Great clean park. Great local cafe's & pubs
V. C.
It was quiet when we visited mid-week, there were a couple of school trips but still plenty of space.
Disappointed with the number of animals, very few.
Lovely cafe with seating indoors and out. Little playground close to Meanwood beck. It's nice to hear the water, occasionally, while in that area. Plants grown on site are available to buy and it's great to see that there's an area where bicycles are refurbished and sold on. They certainly are worth a look of in the market for a bike!
It's dog friendly and bowls of water are left out for them in the cafe area.
What does really infuriate me is when dog owners take their pets out with them to places such as this, where dogs are allowed, and then don't clean up after the dog!!💩🤬😤 Please dog owners (I am one myself) don't spoil this lovely place in the city.
I think there's ongoing plans for the whole site since lockdown has been lifted.
We'll certainly be returning.
H. G.
Nice park especially the woods and stream etc. Popular with dog walkers. Plenty of tarmac paths if you don't want to get muddy.
I. N.
I love the cafe there! There is a nature walk and a park especially for children aswell. Lovely.

Busy but still space to social distance if you avoid the toddler families and parents who allow children to hog the paths with their bikes. Head into the woods or hollies for a decent walk without stress! Cafe and ice cream van do take out coffee also.

It’s and amazing place to go with the entire family! You can access the park and the walk way that takes you around an experience of a lifetime. You can sit down for a picnic on any patch of grass while your children have an amazing time on the park! In the park there is a slide, 4 swings, 2 baby swings and 2 swings for older children and an obstacle course that will entertain your child for hours on end! There is also a cafe for you to treat the family with a hot chocolate and possibly a slice of cake.

Nice local park to enjoy the green grass and nature in the heart of Meanwood. It's amazing to find such a large patch of oxygen producing natural mini forest.
Great for the local community to go for a job or a quite walk. It's always nice to hear birds singing and here I heard lots of happy cheerful birds singing there songs, it was a wonderful experience.

T. L.
Amazing place for rest and exercises 👍
K. W.
A lot of happy memories have been made for mean in this ancient woodland
L. H.
This is a fantastic park and I can see why Tolkien used it as inspiration for his LOTR books - take a look into the forrest and you will see why and you may even wander yourself into the myrtle pub! If you're not up for that, it's a great picnic and dog spotting area all year round!
S. H.
I love this place - when you consider that it's contiguous with The Hollies and Adel Woods it's by far my favourite park in Leeds
S. &. J. A.
A beautiful oasis, much loved by walkers, children, picnickers and dogs!
K. O.
Gorgeous park with excellent walks.
P. D.
Local park with open spaces, woodland paths, stream, children's playground and gardens. Popular with dog walkers. Free parking.
Also historical interest with connection to Captain Oates, member of ill-fated Scott Antarctica expedition.
l. w.
A lovely little park for dog walkers or if you're just looking for a small walk yourself. You can walk through the green fields, or the woods, up to the holly's and even enjoy a play on the playground if you fancy. There's a nice little walk up to the Myrtle pub through the woods - always guaranteeing you a nice beverage or bite to eat.
B. M.
Sadly Meanwood Park cafe has closed at the time of writing, it was great for kids and did good food. The park can get a bit muddy at this time of year and there aren't lots of concrete paths so be prepared to get mucky! However, there is a great kids playground, a duck pond and wonderful walks including into the forest where there are areas for kids or dogs to explore.
S. M.
Great all round facilities for kids and adults
K. B.
No toilet facilities but there is a cafe, outdoor and indoor seating, a small amount of parking, a cool play area and really pretty walks with open areas and a stream/woodland areas too
M. H.

There are lots of walks that you can do from meanwood park including the valley trail going from woodhouse to Adel woods. It's a perfect dog walking park and the cafe is great (there are plenty of good pubs close to the park too). There is only a small car park but you can easily park in meanwood and walk down.
H. H.
Rivers, bridges, woods, playground cafe, tennis courts, pond, waterfall , yes I'd say it just about has everything you'd want in a park.
s. l.
Stunning beautiful place
P. G.
Very nice playground, my 3.5yo absolutely loved it!
S. H.
Fabulous park - my favourite park in Leeds. Big grassed areas for picnics, decent kids play area and a stream and woods to explore. Explore the upper woods enough and you'll stumble across the old quarry and ultimately find the mrytle tavern pub 😁
E. G.
Better than Hampstead Heath in London, truly feels like you've left civilisation behind...and breathe... :)
F. L.
Beautiful as always
P. C.

J. S.
Great walk up the stream...take wellies
D. R.
I've been coming here since I was a boy and now me and my partner bring our own two year old son.
I actually miss this place if I don't make a point of trying to come here at least once a year during summer.
I think the only thing really letting it down is the amount of rude dog walkers who let their dogs run right up to you while you are trying to have a picnic.
We don't all like your dogs people!
I wish they would either keep their dogs on their lead or stay at home.
J. A. C.
One of my absolute favourite parks! I used to be here virtually every day until I lost my dog 😕 This, together with the adjacent 'Hollies' is one of the biggest parks in Leeds and it's believed that Tolkien, who lived virtually opposite when he was Professor of English at Leeds University, got his ideas from The Hollies 😀 Easy to see why when you've walked it a thousand times as I have <3
J. B.
Wonderful place to take grandchildren
M. S.
Great place with plenty to do x
J. P.
Fab place to take the kids or to walk the dog.

A beautiful park just outside Leeds City centre. There's an enclosed playground area for children, tennis courts and a bowling green. The park is surrounded by extensive woodland and open green areas with a beck running through. The Meanwood valleye trail runs through here too.

a. a.
Great play area and cafe
l. c.
Really good day out for kids
A. E.
Its a bit hard to be critical of this park as it has almost everything that you could need in a park.
There is plenty of space for playing games and throwing sticks.
There is a decent adventure playground with the obligatory ice cream van.
You can walk from here all the way up to Golden acre or further if you want to, and the walk is decently interesting. You can also walk back almost to the city centre if you choose to.
There is also the beck with a variety of ponds crossings and stepping stone.
Its easy to find and there is ample parking and plenty of access points.
Finally there is a decent enough cafe, or further eating options 5 minutes walk away in meanwood.
H. H.
Nice park tucked away
