Reviews of Tarnfield Dam
C. S.
After living in the area all my life it was the first time I'd visited, and yes it was a lovely afternoon.
L. R.
July 2022. After watching the planes come and go I took a walk around this nice lake. Quite a few fisherman and ducks around. Public toliets were closed.
J. U.
Yeadon Tarn has a nice easy walk around it. Plenty of ducks and swans who want feeding and a great place to watch the planes taking off and landing at Leeds Bradford Airport.
L. D.
One of the great things about living in Yeadon is the Tarn. Full of wildlife a nice waking and running area for people and dogs. There’s always people fishing and frequently people doing water sports like sailing. There’s a really good play park for the kids right next to it and always an ice cream van about.
E. A.
Beautiful place for a short walk round the tarn, playground for the kids and also you are able to watch landing or setting off the planes from close
D. L.
Good place to walk around, and very flat easy for push-chairs too
P. W.
A lively stretch of water with very accessible pathway all the way round, the lake is "naturally landscaped with a large emphasis on ecology. There are many clear and informative signs around. Naming the flora and fauna you will see as you walk. There are always plenty of anglers and there are cleared areas to accommodate. There is a sailing club who are generally quite active which generates interest. Cycling is unfortunately not allowed as the path can be slightly narrow in places. Wheelchair acces & access in general is excellent throughout. Thus making it a very easy and pleasant place to enjoy. There are two large accessible car parks with ample parking spaces. All in all a very simple and pleasant place to enjoy the beauty of Yorkshire. Also a great opportunity to take someone who perhaps doesn't get out much due to being elderly or infirm. Very easy to get to and enjoy. Highly recommended
D. H.
Good old fashioned Sunday afternoon out. Great for younger kids, plane spotters and (on the day we visited) sun bathing!
The friendly geese appreciated a few crumbs.
I knocked one star off because the toilets were shut.
C. K.
A great fishing experience. I took my dad out for the day and we were made to feel really welcome with non of the stigma you get at some lakes. Booking was really easy and the bailiff and other fishermen gave us loads of info when we got there.
J. A.
Tarnfield Dam is a lovely place to visit. It's close to Leeds and Bradford Airport so you can see the planes taking off as they go over the dam. There are plenty of swans and ducks on the dam and sailing boats. Kids love to run and play on the grass area surrounding the dam and there are benches for anyone to sit and take the sites in. A little bandstand, ice cream van and a small boating club. Great for picnics.
D. J.
Nice steady walk around the lake which is flat and wheelchair friendly Playground for the kids. Ice cream van usually on site. You can see the planes close up landing and taking off
S. C.
A lovely little place for a walk with the family. Good paths for those with pushchairs.
Has the added thrill for kids to see planes taking off and landing at the airport.
C. C.
A nice place to visit for all age groups. A pleasant walk around the lake which has ducks, swans and geese. A children's park and a ice cream van in good weather.
D. D.
A lovely refreshing walk , you get to see the aeroplanes taking off , ducks geese and swans the sailing clubs , there's a picnic area and a natural reserve . Information boards on the way round about the animals and wild flowers. Perfect any weather is the path is concrete all the way round . Don't forget your change for an ice cream like I did for after the kiddies have played on the vert well maintained play area ( including a zip wire )
A. B.
Great little walk, for dogs on a lead or children. I have been walking both here for the last 13 years.
It's usually windy so in cooler months be prepared!
M. R.
Nice walk around and good place to see the planes take off☺️
S. C.
Great place to kids, just a shame they didn't fix the climbing frame ready for the summer holidays 😕
W. D.
My Son and I visited Yeadon Tarn and we were there solely for the purpose of doing a days fishing. Although we didn't catch what we were after we both had an enjoyable day. The banks are quite flat and there is a tarmacked path all around the lake. It does get busy on a weekend in the Summer months with people who use the park for many different activities but that's what it's purpose is. There's some really nice fish to be had but it isn't what's known as a runs water. The lads that run the lake are on hand if there's any problems or advice if needed! The airport is situated very close to the lake so if the fishing is slow you can always amuse yourself by watching the plane's take off
W. R.
Lovely walk round with the kids, ice cream and the park.very clean and tidy, love the place
K. W.
Empty your cupboard to feed to swans and ducks!
Salad, rice, sweetcorn, grains, cereals.
Have fun and enjoy the lovely walk around the lake.
P. R.
Perfect for those who love nature. Here there are plenty of activities. Can you imagine having your friends here for your birthday party? Or just jogging, walking the dog, enjoying with kids, perhaps hand on hand with your beloved one? This is one of the most beautiful public spaces to go to!
J. R.
One of my favorite places to go for walks. Leeds/Bradford airport runway runs right along side it so you can watch the planes take off. There are hundred of ducks, geese and swans which is great for the kids and also a decent sized park. Dogs are welcome and the car park is a decent size so you can always find a parking space. Beautiful place.
T. B.
Easy circular walk, with some wildlife to look at (feed swans, ducks etc).
Well equipped play park for younger children.
A great way to spend a few hours with your kids, that doesn't cost anything.
Even the parking was free!
S. R.
Beautiful place. So close to the airport you can watch the planes taking off. It's a nice walk around the Tarn too, very flat and easy for the kids.
N.
Lovely place to have a walk with your dogs ,clean and a nice place to spend couple of hours walking 🚶♀️ 😀
I. F.
Great stop waiting for my wife's plane to land at LB airport its only 5 minutes away
J. R.
Nice and clean lots of bins for litter. Nice small walk all flat. Small park perfect for little ones and on site ice cream van.
F. G.
Love been here it's beautiful and clean, so close to the airport the kids love watching the planes take off and come back, parkin is easy enough. Shame toilets weren't open
J. R.
Lovely little place, little being the operative word. Went for a wander with a friend, think we did 5 laps in the hour we were there. Very relaxing and cosy place, the range of birds is quite extraordinary for somewhere so small, we saw a variety of them in one spot. The babies at this time of year are always an extra bonus 🤗 Not overly busy but we did go during school hours and there was enough people to comfortably walk round without getting stuck with anyone. Flat and a path all the way around so perfect for new mums with prams that just want to get out for a bit if you're close, or wheelchairs if you require, we did see someone in wheelchair whilst we were there and I have a pram so it was nice to see it was easily done with both. Big green spots to sit and pinic or play. Will definitely be going back but think it's one I'd skip on a busy weekend as I imagine it would be packed
J. K.
Always lovely lots of seating and grass to sit on and watch the kids play football. The park is very well kept too
L. C.
Beautiful! Can't believe such a place is literally just up the road from where we live!
M. B.
Child friendly and a lovely walk around the perimeter safe play area lovely wildlife on and under the water👍🇬🇧🤠
L. M.
Nice area for a family walk. Can get busy and parts of the oath are arrow when passing people.
One of the few places in Leeds you can play with your own RC boats & hovercraft.
r. N.
Such a lovely place to walk around I use my scooter now to go around if you want to feed the swans ducks and others it's just a nice pieceful place you can watch the aeroplanes take off too
D. W.
Lovely flat walk, good for dogs. children's park, toilets and nice pub within the vicinity.
B. H.
Lovely walk with family, play area for the kids and plenty of ducks to feed as well and an ice cream van is there most days as well for when it's warm
E. H.
lovely little walk round with plenty of benches if you want to have a rest an dust enjoy your surroundings...ice cream man is expensive and only accepts card payments
l. y.
Went for a little easter walk with family and the kids! Fed the swans and ducks played on the park had an ice cream and a nice walk! Good place to kill a few hours
D. S.
Love walking around here. Used to kayak on here 20 years ago with school. Always brings back nice childhood memories. Also it's right next to Leeds Bradford Airport so you get to see the planes taking off and landing right in front of you.
J. P.
I love this place - we visit nearly every weekend. The tarn is lovely to walk around & the wildlife never disappoints. The planes taking off & landing make everyone stop & watch. It's a nice little haven to sit and watch the world go by.
D. B. -. N.
Lovely Sunday mornings stroll.
Down pour but that never stops us.
Alfie not too sure as it was extremely watered in on the pavements.
But we loved the swans and ducks and loved the quietness.
Met a very lovely lady and her beautiful well socialized white tiny pooch.
Super visit as always.
Walked the Tarn and then had a walk up High street and back to the car.
🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾👌👌👌🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
M. C.
Nice pleasant place to get away from it all in yeadon...a hidden gem......right before your reminded of the airports rediculous expansion and as such jets go thundering past every few minutes.
Theres a couple of great areas for kids to play and a mountain bike track....fishing too. It would be good if there were rules that certain dog breeds needed to be on a lead though!!!!
G.
Gorgeous place to walk round on a sunny day. Also great place if you like seeing aeroplanes.
B. S.
It’s just a lovely place for a walk! Picnic benches dotted about if you need a rest, little fenced off play area for the children and ole ty of room to walk the dog
Z. A.
A beautiful lake, you can walk around (excellent exercise) 😉
M. M.
Lovely park for all ages. The walk round the lake is really nice and relaxing with plenty of places to stop and sit and take in the surroundings. If you have young kids the play area is big and varied with lots to do.
We only visited to have a walk but it seems if your want to do some boating they have excellent facilities there.
H. A.
Was nice to walk around it even though it was quite cold in April. Ducks were nice as well.
G. T.
A very calm place to walk around. Planes arrive and depart every now and then to break the silence of the water, wildfowl and boaters.
S. R.
Great little place, never too busy. Good for children, dogs and adults.
P. W.
Lovely place and a great place to relax with the family , nice picnic spots definitely worth a visit
A. H.
Nice relaxing place to visit with Picnic tables and plenty of benches to sit and watch the World go by
N. D.
Awesome fishing spot carp anglers get on it.
L. K.
A lovely place for a good power walk round or a dog walk so long as it isn't too busy.
I always advise going during the week if you'd prefer a quieter walk!
A. T. M. a. W. H. S.
Nice little walk, just feel there should be something else to attract more people
R. C.
It is a nice walk around the water especially in the summer but then it's more crowded. We took or great granddaughter last Thursday and we actually saw some aircraft landing and taking off!!! But most of all our great granddaughter loved watching the ducks and swan's. We had used our bread up to feed the duck's etc and one kind person gave us some more bread.
Various car parks about, but they do get full. Sadly lacking is a snack bar or the like Toilet on site, children's play area on site and not far from Yeadon
H. P.
Lovely walk around the tarn, with ice cream van halfway round for a treat!
J. F.
OK had cycle 🚴 ride stoped of there. Nice place men fishing 🎣 but its now full off cray fish. There eating all the fish eggs 🥚 terrible things they ar
P. S.
A pleasant walk around the Dam. Level and easily negotiated by wheelchairs and people with other mobility issues. One turn around the perimeter is approximately 15 minutes at a stead walking pace. Plenty of seating located at the side of the foot path for when you need a rest or to simply watch the world go by. The far end of the dam abuts the airport so there are occasional views of planes coming or going depending on the wind direction.
m. k.
Lively walk with the dog she loves playing on the fields with her ball and I can sit when my hips start hurting, just need a cafe then it would be perfect.
J. J.
Love this place. Take my dog there frequently. Loads of seats around and very flat for wheel chair users to enjoy
J. B.
Love visiting Yeadon Dam, as I've always known it. I have been going here since I was a baby and I now take my little man when I get the chance. It's a lovely walk and great for kids who love to see aeroplanes taking off and landing. There is also a decent sized playground and a resident ice cream van (extortionately priced I might add).
There are plenty of opportunities to feed the ducks, geese and swans. A lot will eat from your hand which my little one thought was brilliant.
Please remember DO NOT FEED THEM BREAD!!! You can feed them corn, porridge oats, bird seeds but not bread.
There is also a boating club and they sometimes host taster sessions.
S. B.
Had a fantastic walk round the lake, kids really enjoyed it too, we had fun chatting to the ducks and watching the planes take off on the runway, even had a cheeky ice cream.
T. N.
Lovely place on a sunny day. Good for a walk or a picnic. Good viewpoint for planes.
A. T.
Smaller than I thought it was going to be... You can walk all way around in about 10-15 minutes (depending on your pace)
Good place for some wildlife, or plane, spotting.
T. G.
Great place to walk around. Lots of wildlife and good playground for the kids.
S. L.
Lovely walk and good views of the airplanes coming in and departing
C. M.
Very nice peaceful nice walk around the lake. Works visit again an maybe a picnic
M. R.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Nice to have a stroll around and watch the planes
R. S.
Great walk, if your after a brisk short walk this is great, parking is always relatively good busier as expected on bank holidays and weekends but still usually room to park and it's free. Just don't annoy the anglers.
S. G.
Beautiful place that is well cared for. Great for a slow calm stroll with my children, tons of benches for a break and many grassy places to sit down for a picnic.
C. C.
The boys loved it here! They played in the park, got icecream and fed the ducks 👍
s. B.
A good place for fish and chips and a nice evening walk.
M. B.
Great place to visit for a leisurely walk, boating and children's playground.
A. M.
Always nice to have a walk round Yeadon Tarn, aka Tarnfield Dam & Tarnfield Park. You are likely to see some planes taking off and landing due to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) being just round the corner. You will also likely see some anglers from Yeadon angling club camping out. And you're almost guaranteed to see plenty of dog walkers with dogs.
All round a good place for a quick walk with a nice playground situated within for children.
C. M.
Nice park, quite small and pretty busy. There's a small play ground for kids and of course the Tarn, which has a footpath all around. It's also right next door to Leeds/Bradford Airport, so good for watching planes.
c.
Can't believe I've lived in Bradford for 14 years and not been here before!
What a lovely lake, we spent 5 hours here, mainly just relaxing under the shade of a tree, utter bliss!!!
S. P.
Pleasant peaceful friendly place. Absolutely love it.
T. G.
Cool place to spend for camping, boating, etc. Also evening walks and daily workout is so good in this ambience. The white swans are the main attraction in this location.
S. O.
Run round Tarnfield Park several times a week... always beautiful. Might even have a go at kayaking one of these days!
W. C.
A decent place to spend your afternoon. Parking can be tricky like most places when the weather is good. We walked our dog with ease and our 5 year old enjoyed the play area and ice cream from the van afterwards.
C. C.
Lovely place to walk round, good playground and place for bmx bikes.
Would be great if cycle track could be built around the tarn
S. K.
Easy parking, toilet facilities, childrens play area, dry walking
M. W.
Very busy place now,too busy, paths are so in need of upgrade,
C. C.
Generally busy but not today which was nice to just sit and watch the ducks and swans.
Great play area for children with ice cream van on hand.
c. h.
Lovely to walk round the lake and see all the birds. Can also see plane's from Leeds and Bradford Airport.
A. B.
Lovely place to go for a walk, free car parking and a nice flat round route.
A. W.
Pretty place, lots of photo ops! The landscape looks so different through the seasons!
As a bonus for avgeeks it is right by LBA so there's plenty of opportunities to snap aircraft!
I wish the seemingly obligatory ice cream van's engine was not pumping out noxious diesel emissions whilst people sit, walk chat just feet away from it. Surely Leeds City Council should enforce green electric alternatives? As, what's the point going for a "healthy" walk just to have to breathe fumes in after every circuit tarnishing the tarn's green image?
I hope you enjoy your visit!
\X/ish ;0)
T. C.
Great place for a walk with the bonus of the odd plane taking off.
N. B.
Great place to visit then pop round to Murgatroyds for fish&chips
R. M.
Beautiful, peaceful spot.
D. D.
Always a great place to visit whatever the weather.
L. J.
Absolutely stunning place.
S. M.
Lovely public park for family
m. b.
Always enjoy a stroll around the tarn, would thoroughly recommend.
E.
I love going to feed the birds and just watching them do their thing. Sometimes there's litter in the water though and I try to fish it out when I can. Other than that The Tarn is a great place to sit back and relax, walk your dog, feed some birds (and cheeky squirrels), or just go for a short walk around the pond.
Z. 2.
Lovely place to visit especially children and elderly. Keep going back. So relaxing even when the planes are taking off from LBA.
M. H.
Nice place for a stroll with the kids. Pushchair friendly. Nice wide flat path all the way around. Ducks to see and feed. Free parking is available and there is also a park.
C. D.
Don't buy a screwball off ice cream man. He charges £2:50.! And he doesn't sell coffee anymore. Other than that all good
J. B.
Had a great day out only thing that was missing were toilets and a snack bar. Other wise the park is Lovely not too busy. Eldest grandson enjoyed the pump track. Will come again .
m. w.
Lovley walks. Walk the dog. Feed the birds get an ice cream. Do some fishing or even learn how to sail. The tarn has it all. Free parking. Near by park for kids. Happy days
R. W.
Great place for a walk and watching planes and ducks
G. R.
Make sure you put xtra layers on in winter, as it's very cold and exposed near the Runway end. Lots of seating. Toilets never open. Parks play area zippered not working for a long time. Really could benefit from a Cafe council run onsite?
R. H.
Loved it, a lovely pleasant walk around a beautiful tarn, watching the boats, planes coming and going above. Swans, ducks, geese swimming on the lake. Fishermen waiting for their next bite. Ice cream van, swings, play area, band stand. Just lovely.
P. N.
Lovely walk, feeding ducks ,watching aeroplanes land and eating ice cream. Only down side no toilets open ever on a weekend
d. k.
Lovely place for a Sunday morning walk to blow the cobwebs away. Ideal place for people with mobility problems to get some fresh air too , as paths are well maintained and suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
C. S.
Nice for a walk. Path was a bit flooded at top end following heavy rain meaning I couldn't walk all the way round in footwear I had on but still a nice walk.
S. S.
Nice and peaceful ' good place to have a nice walk or a run on a evening ' kids love feeding the swans and ducks ' nature trails and plenty of picnic areas .
Has a park for the kids and you can hire boats out and hire a spot for fishing .
D. M.
Beautiful place whatever time of year. To walk round the lake and there is lots of benches and picnic tables to enjoy food. A favourite is calling of ours is to visit the little fisherman for food and sitting with family in the fresh air(when it's allowed again)
J. M.
Nice park with lake for sailing and fishing.
j. c.
Beautiful place for a walk and lovely park for the kids
J. H.
Lovely walk round the lake this evening
J. W.
Always good to walk around to Dam ...sadly the public toilets are closed , not sure why , maybe vandalism. I still don't think that is a good reason , surely there is a way to prevent this , other public parks keep their toilets open . It really limits the amount of time people can spend there ...... disappointing , plus the ice cream van charging £3 for a simple ice-cream ....really !!!🙄
A. C.
Only small but was nice, if your a fan of viewing planes taking off you have a good view of the planed taking off from Leeds Bradford airport
J. H.
I rarely get out much nowadays due to My disabilities and associated issues that contribute towards this. However, I was taken by My Partner to go for a ln outing around the Tarn , and it was fabulous and had some links muted conversation with lovely local people. A wonderful and peaceful and clean easily accessible venue. 5 Stars from Me.
M. 2.
Nice for a walk and good playground.
P. S.
This such a great place for the kids and best of all its a free day out in the summer. A fantastic flat path that you can follow all the way around the Tarn, hreat if you want to take the kids with their bikes or scooters. A chance to feed the ducks too. Picnic areas and a little play are for the kids. All round great place!
a. d.
Nice walk, fun to see the planes taking off. Plenty of space to play football etc. And a playground. On a nice day you could take a picnic and stay there all day! Lovely views of the lake and the walk round is really nice and just a nice length with little ones. Little hidden gem.
A. P.
Great for a walk round the Tarn. Plenty of wildlife, lots of birds and good view of planes flying in and out of the airport. And boats! Ice cream van in the summer months.
Kids can go round on scooters or bikes as path is mostly flat surface. There is a great playground which has recently been refurbished.
M. M.
Lovely winter walk with the pooch with minimal mud. The people are friendly and the ducks and geese are entertaining too.
R. “. H.
Always find Yearon Tarm a lovely peaceful place. Love watching planes landing and taking off from the runway. The seating and picnic tables could however use a little maintenance but it didn't spoil my visit.
M. D.
Pleasant little lake with tarmac path around it, with plenty of seating, and pent of ducks.
Free car parks, playground and toilets at one end. And picnic tables at the other, and a skate board facility is tucked away at the northern edge.
Looks like you can prearrange booking of paddle craft from the sailing club too.
Ice cream van visits at peak times.
Suitable for a quick stroll, especially with small children.
K. L.
A nice walk and nice to watch planes take off/land. Perfect for very young children as it's not too far for them to go the whole way round. Can get very cold and particularly windy, so wrap up warm.
B. M.
Fabulous place, could do with better toilet facilities but the play park is lovely and well maintained. There is a lovely walk around the Tarn and we all love going over the road to get a better view of the planes on the runway. Great day out. Lovely ice creams too
S. B.
A lovely place to clear your head and have a nice walk with the kids, family and dogs. Friendly people around this area.
M. L. E.
Nice and flat, good for disabled access. Lovely to see the boats on the water and also great to see the odd plane taking off and landing in the background. Nice playground for the kids, and fishing spots round the lake. Great place for a gentle stroll.
K. M.
I only live 2 minutes from Yeadon Dam. It's just short of mile around. It's lovely to walk around on your own or even with friends & family. They is a park with swings etc for the children to go. Sometimes they is boats on the lake. And they are sometimes people doing fishing.
S. K.
Very easy and short walk. Lots of wildlife and birds and a good view of the runway.
G. H.
A lovely place for a stroll especially as it is all flat walking. Nice to feed the swans and ducks. Free parking too. Just a shame that it hasn't got a cafe although I think that may change in 2020
D. B.
Lovely walk around the tarn. It can be quite wet so good shoes. Lovely to feed the ducks and swans, watch the planes take off and kids can play in the clean well equipped play ground.
B. H.
Love this place.
Walking around here is just so relaxing. There are areas for everything. Large well maintained grass areas for family's to play games, large shaded areas to sit back and relax in or read a book as the world passes you by. Obviously there is a small lake in the middle, filled with ducks geese and swans.
There is a huge kids play park with lots of equipment to keep them entertained for hours
And best of all, ice cream vans tend to park here during the summer months.
There is some sorter sailing club based at one end and If your into that sorter thing it's probably worth taking a closer look.
Also there is a model boat club based in a kiosk so if that's your thing then I'm sure that's worth a look as well.
All round this is a great place to relax and unwind
I. S.
Free carpark, flat walk about 2Km round, some water overflow which on my visit caused ice on the paths. Popular place to feed ducks and swans as well as walk your dog's. Near the landing strip for Leeds/Bradford airport, if you want to watch a few planes up close ✈️.
J. A.
We had the best time, we fed some ducks and had ice cream, they have a park for children and some stunning scenery, we even sat and watched the planes take off from a bench
L. S.
A good place to visit with kids. There's the park to play with plenty to choose from, planes to watch along the run way. The small bandstand to shelter in rain and water to walk round. You can feed the ducks and watch the sailing on the water. Overall a good family day out in good weather. It's also close to the high street with cafes, bars, shops, library and town hall.
G. H.
Lovely flat walk
J. S.
Didn't know this place was even here quite peaceful to say that it's at the back of Leeds and Bradford airport
S. R.
Really nice place for a short easy walk. Also has a kids playground, ice cream can (that also sells hot drinks), toilets, picnic tables and a BMX track. Wrap up warm though, as it is quite exposed
M. M.
Beautiful place. Has everything for families. The airport being so close is perfect for kids to do a bit of plane spotting! ✈🚁📸 Son loves the plaground with its new zip-line!
M. B.
Easy spot for a circular walk. Plenty to see, and space to park. Theres a play park for kids. The walk is dog, pushchair and wheelchair friendly but if you have a dog that loves the water.. they will jump in so keep them on the lead if you dont want a wet dog scented car.
S. H.
Beautiful walk around the tarn approx 1 mile. Lots of seats to take in the views and see the variety of birds. Usually good parking and a nice little childrens park.

Lovely place for a stroll and feed the birds. Is also situated near to LBA runway so you can also watch the aircraft take off and land. Because of its size, it's quite small, it can get crowded, especially at weekends and school holidays etc. Worth a visit though.
Z. H. C.
Very nice place for spending a day with kids
J. L.
Absolutely lovely. Walked around lake very tidy and pleasant fed ducks and swans. Very friendly people around. Would recommend you take a look yourselves.
N. J.
A good walk around the dam and kids can feed the ducks and swans for all the family
J. W.
A lovely park around a lake. Fishing and boating. A new kids park slightly geared towards an older kid but still a couple of bits for little ones. Ice cream van. Limited parking but it's free. Great fish and chip shops near by the little fisherman and mergatroyds. A short walk from the center of yeadon with shops and restaurants.
M. &. C. L.
Lovely walk around the tarn but unfortunately the place was looking tired and dirty in places. Lots of plastic bread bags been left by visitors even some in the water which the swans and ducks were trying to eat.
T. M.
Lovely place to walk your dogs. Meet nice friendly people, there is also an ice cream van on site for refreshments, but I find him expensive. Other than that not a bad place. Just over the road through the car park you have the viewing point for the airport ( Leeds Bradford International Airport) Spent many an happy day here and there's also an ice cream van, which I find cheaper than the ones on the Tarn..
D. B.
lovely walk , felt safe .
S. B.
Very flat and easy walk. Good views of aircraft and wildlife, Model boat club on Sunday morning,Best to go early as Car parks get full in the summer. ✈️🦆
H. I. S.
Great for a,walk round which is 0.6 of a miles. Plenty of ducks and geese. Dog friendly environment too!
G.
A pleasant short walk around the dam. Play area suitable for under 6's, not great for older kids. Toilets are closed more often than not. Plenty of free parking.
C. S.
A good place to go for a walk. Suits all family members.Children love it there. There is usually an ice-cream van, tempting.
A. S.
Great space. Sailing on the lake available. Lovely walk around lake, adjacent to Leeds Bradford Airport. Plenty of planes arriving /departing that you can see from the Tarn. Great place to take kids. Near to few fish and chip shops and eating places. Warning - Ice Creams lovey but you need a second mortgage if there's a family to buy for.
A. C.
The new play ground should have had more done with it...... definitely more items for the kids to go on!.... the aerial slide is broken.... again......its a nice place to walk around with the kids, it can be VERY windy this time of the year so wrap up!!.... overall it's worth a visit 👍👍
D. L.
Gorgeous little place to go for a Sunday afternoon stroll with the kids. Little lake to feed the ducks, small grassed areas to play football and frisbee, small playground for the kids and all right at the side of the runway for Leeds/Bradford airport so the kids loved it.
J. C.
Lots of parking. Accessable for wheelchair and pushchairs. Safe enclosed children park area. Larger areas of grass for picnics. Scooter scare park just off the car park. A circular flat well paved area for walking around the Tarn. Planes flying over often, as very close to the airport.
Well worth the visit
M. N.
Public park with BMX corse.
kids play area 2 large car parks
ice cream van most days .
the lake is just under 1 mile walk around .
and if your lucky might see a big fish hit the bank lake run by fishing club ( yeadon tarn a,c ) .
N. H.
Great for spending some time walking out in the fresh air. Dog walkers welcome. Plenty of bins . Can get very wet and muddy so take your wellys. Lots to see and do. You can feed the ducks , watch planes take off , visit the play area which is suitable for younger kids too. There are some public toilets near to the play area. There are clubs that use the lake too for sailing/ canoeing so it is always fairly busy and interesting to watch.
A. T.
On a nice day it's good to walk round wheel chair friendly lots of wild birds on the dam small dinghies floating along the ice cream van is expensive it's just missing a cafe very nice safe area for children to play
C. N.
Great to just walk around chilling recommended just to escape from hassles of life
A. G.
Lovely place for families, couples etc to walk round. There's a newly built play area. Plenty of ducks & swans. Can see the planes taking off and landing too. Only thing is the ice cream man is expensive. A screwball cost me £2.50!!
M. E.
Sadly not as family or child friendly as it should be but otherwise a pleasant place to visit that's close by.
Yeadon Tarn or "poo park" as we prefer to call it.
Far too many dogs in general. Dogs not on a lead or without a muzzle so children will need to be kept on a lead at all times!
I'm not anti dog but this could so easily be a nicer place for families to visit if there was a sectioned off area dedicated to dogs.
Toilet facilities are available near the child play area. The facilities aren't always open as they are locked daily to keep undesirables away. As such there are some occasions when they aren't open.
There is disabled access and disabled parking available.
A. W.
Tanfield dam is now so busy with people travelling to it from other areas I have to avoid it. As it is only 300 yds from my house it's my local exercise area yet I now cannot enjoy it as others are not sticking to the restriction rules by exercising in their own local spaces. The car parks there are always full so people must be travelling a distance to use it. Such a shame folk do not stick to the current rules on exercising from your own doorstep.
L. R.
Lovely place to walk the dogs
M. C.
The weather wasn't great but the view was perfect! Lots to see and weather permitted would have been nice to get on the water.
P. t.
Great place to spend an afternoon, kids playground, ice cream van in the car park and by the children's play area but by a box from Morrisons much cheaper and eat while walking round the tarn, you can watch the planes plenty of ducks, swans and grease to feed just watch what you feed them! Bags of food can be brought from sailing club, you can also book water activities here.
M. S. (.
Great little spot. Plenty of picnic benches. Good to see the aeroplanes so close up, taking off and landing and good park at the end for the little ones!
J. N.
Great for people of all ages whether walking, cycling, running, playing in the park, sailing, having a picnic, can spot deer and owls on occasion, also good for plane spotting
T. E.
Come and Explore the Dam at Yeadon! There is a boating/sailing club here too. The wildlife is bursting at the seams. You will get the odd rumble from the airport next door, but it brings out those that are enthusiastic about that sort of thing too. I personally enjoy doing a couple of laps of the circuitous route around the water's edge. There will undoubtedly be runners, or kids with bikes, but its a park and a park is to be enjoyed by all!
K. W.
Move for a gentle walk. Bike track needs some tlc and playground was very busy on Sunday afternoon.
p. l.
Good to walk round on a nice day. Takes about twenty minutes if you just stroll, all very flat and we'll paved. Ideal place to teach a little one to ride a bike.😁
T. M.
Spectacular scenery..simply breathtaking
L. D.
Conveniently situated for a level footing walk and interesting nature park. Surprised to see so many fishermen camping out at the weekend!
J. R.
A lovely flat walk of about a mile around a lake full of wildlife. And a wee view of Yeadon airport and planes taking off. Only downside was the public toilets are closed off.
R. A.
Very good but will be much better when the sun is shining so looking forwards to going again.
s. s. u.
The park is very nice with its wildlife wonderful lake and the Leeds and Bradford airport runway alongside is brilliant watching the planes landing and taking. The only Disappointing thing about this park is that theres no cafe plenty of parking and toilets disabled friendly
A. S.
It's a beautiful place. Water, sailing boats, picnic areas and tables, feed the birds. Relax and chill. Watch the planes take off and land at Leeds Bradford airport next door.
T. M.
A lovely popular place go walk around. There is a boat club that play with their remote control boats, a playground and a sailing club. There are ducks and swans and it's also a popular place to fish.
Many people use it for exercise - jogging and walking round it .
e. p.
Great little walk round the dam, all flat with good paths. A miniature nature park for the kids and a very good play park. Plus an excellent BMX track.
F.
Lovely place for a stroll with the kids and dogs. Plus playground for the kids.
K. D.
I have been going to the tarn since I was a baby, I paid another visit recently after not going for years and the memories came flooding back, it is just as good as I remember and the best bit was feeding the ducks with my daughter taking a stroll through memory lane
A. J.
Great place for a short walk 20 mins all the way around the dam and pram friendly paths. Also plenty of grass for kids and dogs and picnic tables, a kids park, and a free car park next to the airport
M. C.
Nice little place. My daughters love to go there and feed the ducks in the water. Can stroll around. Serene and beautiful. Never tried sailing though in the water.
A. H.
Nice walk round the lake, but very windy at times. Kids wear wellies as its marshy off the path at the bottom end.
A. R.
Nice walk around the Lake .
D. T.
This is one of our easy walks ...we walk around twice to feel the benefit..glad to see its used by lots of dog walkers and fishermen.
S. C.
It was very busy and parking was quite difficult. It is a nice flat walk around the Tarn and accessible for wheelchair users, however, even though there are notices around, there are many children on bikes and scooters. At the far side if the main car park there are some public toilets (men's, women's and disabled), though you have to guess which is which as there are no signs on the doors, and an ice cream van. That is basically it for the general public, except now and again you can just about see a plane land but there is no view of the Leeds Bradford runway (a little disappointing really as we went there hoping to see more). We drove 25 minutes to get there and we agreed that it really wasn't worth the drive. Glad we've been but probably not again. Great if you live on the doorstep though.
A. I. (.
Great to walk round anytime.....lots of wildlife on the water.....you can see planes taking off from Leeds/Bradford Airport its just to the side of the runway. Nice for picnics.....for children playing.
m. k.
One of the most popular lakeside walks this side of Leeds. Flat, accessible, not too long. Feed the ducks, playground, nature corners, ice cream, sailing centre. What's not to like?
E. G.
Good, reasonably level walk, easy for all abilities. Plenty of parking and seats. Playground and often an ice cream van. Can be busy on weekend afternoons.
a. k.
Love this place, went for a night walk and it was peaceful with the moon light shining on the lake. Sat watching the aeroplanes come into land
S. B.
Right next to Leeds Bradford airport, great for plane spotters. Lots to do here. A large boating and fishing lake, with sail boat hire. Lots of birds for feeding. A good sized play area for the kids and a dirt track with ramps for skaters and BMXers.
C. H.
Beautiful place to strole and enjoy the Tarn and surroundings.
You can also learn to sail and play crown green bowls, but not at the same time ?
Great place to watch your local wildlife.
A. M.
Nice place for a stroll with children. Recently renovated playground with swings, slides, climbing frames and a zip wire. An icecream van for a treat, plenty of ducks and swans to feed, sailing boats on the tarn, r/c model ships and aircraft coming and going from LBA right next door. Paths can be a bit muddy if there's been recent rain and the worst and most annoying thing is the large quantity of dog mess - could do with stronger enforcement and more regular cleaning?
T. M.
Nice place for a walk and some fresh air. Just big enough for a toddler to run around!
B. V.
Took my grandson to play on the swings and slides in the enclosed extremely safe gated area, and have a ice cream. Then walk around the Tarn.
M. C.
It's a nice, gentle walk round. It took me 1/2 hour to get round but that's due to having short legs. 😁
D. W.
Nice park for walk with family, and if someone likes planes it's good opportunity to see take off or landing.
I. B.
Fabulous flat accessible for disabled lovely for saying hi to people when you are isolated most of the time at home
G. D.
Place of natural beauty. Great place for a picnic and relaxing around the tarn. Has all the features of a park such as play area for kids, public toilets and a large tarn with boating club.
G. P.
Great spot for a walk. The tarn lies at the end of the airport runway so kids enjoy watching the planes take off.
There are spots for 0icnics and a play area. The path around the tarn is tarmac and even so it's good for young children on bikes
There is parking and a play area on site.
The Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre is located on the tarn where children can participate in watersports such as kayaking
K. T.
Really peaceful place to walk the dog in the evening. Can be a bit windy and cold at times in the winter, but it's still a lovely walk
G.
Lovely park and a good walk around the lake.
J. H.
Very busy, pathways not very good. Nowhere for a cuppa or food. Lovely views. Some dogs dont like noise of aircraft taking off. Very close to Leeds Bradford airport. Best on a dry sunny summers day and take a flask.
T. C.
Lovely stroll around the tarn, park, aeroplanes taking off and landing, bike track and an ice cream van or two. One of my favourite places growing up and my kids love it too now.
E. A.

Took our Grandson for a walk round the dam. Fed the swans & ducks. Watched planes taking off & landing & finished with an icecream and a play on the swings and slides. He.s a bit young for the zip wire.
A very pleasant walk on an october morning.
M. R.
Very nice walk around the Tarn, takes approximately 20 mins at a moderate pace. Clean and well looked after park for kids to play in, with plenty to keep them happy for a while.
A. H.
Is it a dam? Is it a tarn? Is it a man-made lake? Nobody knows but everyone has their opinion. We come here all the time as it is a lovely place for a walk, a play in the playpark (not as good as it was), an ice-cream and some plane spotting. There's usually sailing or model boating going on and there's a bowling club and BMX track to divert young and old. Some great wildlife can seen around about the water. Only drawbacks are that there is a lack of a café and sometimes the carpark is full.
M. T. A. S.
We couldn't get too close to water as we have mobility issues.
C. &. A. W.
Super play area for the youngsters, with super soft flooring around all the activity areas to reduce slips, trips, falls and bumps. Great selection of activity apparatus with a chance to see people sailing or even just a stroll around the Tarn.
G. H.
We love walking the Tarn..watching the planes taking off and landing !! .take some duck food (not bread ) with you .Go on a Wednesday morning and watch the model boats .Theres a new play park with a zip wire.kids take there bikes as theres a off road course to ride around !!
J. H.
Plenty of water fowl to see, nice and flat. Playground for the little ones and picnic benches for the not so young.
S. M.
Lovely escape from town. Smell and noise of aircraft disturbs the tranquility a little but watching planes taking off and landing is impressive. Nice place to explore with the kids.
i. “. b.

C. T. R.
A beautiful place to walk for all the family. The footpath is well defined and flat, making it suitable for anyone in wheelchairs or for those with children in pushchairs.
G. H.
Nice place to have a walk round. See the duck and swans. Lots of anglers there too. Good place to go for a nice stroll and a little peace and quiet.
K. G.
Lovely place for a walk. Polite locals and a delight for bird watchers.
n. p.
Get a feel for the community and walk round the dam...tarry at every corner and see some wonder or other from the hidden garden at one end to the rippling water as it takes on the wind at another...the kids in the playround full of joy and laughter fill the scene with life and the geese and the mallards squat by the corner near the sailing club...anglers emerge from their tents to try the line and tiny tots in theur onesies taking their first steps watched over by mam and dad. It's all there at Tarnfield. Look! Another jet plane landing...get the binoculars!
C. P.
Pleasant place for an afternoon stroll, popular with families
M. C.
We used to bring our rc boats and play in the little area designed for them but it's great to bring the kids and the constant planes taking off is a thing of interest for my boys

P. W.
Lovely spot close to the runway at Leeds Bradford Airport. Level access, public conveniences, playground and free car park. No cafe, peak time ice cream van. Known locally and historically as Yeadon Dam or Yeadon Tarn.
S. V.
Loved it really.. Nice place for walk.
A. B.
A lovely quiet park with lots of swans, geese and ducks on the Tarn. Plenty of seats, good for plane spotting as next to the airport. It helps if the weather is nice.

Can get very muddy on the grassy areas, but there is a path around the whole lake / tarn. Recently replaced the play park, which is nice but unfortunately much smaller than the old one they replaced.
B.
It's a nice day out if you have kids as there is a play park and lots of ducks to feed, however, there's not much else to do other than walk around what is essentially a giant pond with no interesting features.

I. S.
Lovely flat paved walk around the Tarn. Easy to park, lots of wildlife and good children's playground
J. L.
As a child me and my family would visit the tarn often the park was great the toilet block smells of public toilets; the band stand never seamed to be used.
I can honestly say that being an adult means that I don't need to use the toilet block the park does not have the same appeal. The boys club building seams still never to be used, but the model boat club is something I could really get into. The sailing club too if there was enough room for for a nervous sailor.
To conclude the Tarn can be all things to all men!
Ps I forgot about the BMX track. It was something that I really wanted to do well on, but never had the balls to really try it was terrifying. I could roll around it but any speed forget about it.
c. L.
Fantastic views of the runway. It's great for a brisk walk if you don't go on a sunny weekend as the crowds are huge
C. D.
Always a pleasant walk around there, nice and flat for my 93 year old mum

Nice walk on a sunny day but avoid in windy weather. The dam is situated by the airport runway which the kids love.
