Reviews of Bloomsbury Square Garden
O. L.
Lovely place to sit and rest. Can find peacefulness in this busy area of central London. Lots of benches pretty apart from each other. Lovely buildings around. Good place to rest my tired legs with a cup of coffee after shopping.
I. M.
The garden is alright. Would love more if it had flowers or maybe its winter and the flowers will bloom.
g. v.
Small and good place to have a pause especially those who are with toddlers. A place to sit and relax for a while. Its just at the corner of The British Museum.
J. S.
The square used to be private only for residents. However during the Second World War its railings were removed to be melted down for armaments allowing other people to come into the square. It was officially made public in 1950.
A. S.
Great cashless and ticketless parking facilities. The entrance is not desirable when it gets dark....
Would like Better lighting on the stairs.
S. R. B.
A nice garden that offers a break when one is walking around this area.
A few benches available to sit and rest.
Feeding the pigeons seems to a good activity enjoyed by children.
Saw a homeless man living in here too.
G. M.
Beautiful London square with a kids play area overlooked by the rather grand Victoria Building
S. D. S.
Really lovely little gem of a park, not too busy at all. Nice, clean play equipment. This park is more so for younger children
M. K.
Playground at Bloomsbury Square Gardens is one of our favourite places in Borough of Holborn. It is not an easy task - to find a playground here. There are a lot of offices, cafes and spaces for grown-ups but not for kids. Hence, after a nice day at British Museum or calm walk at Russell Square the main destination is this playground. It is a nicely refurbished area and allows kids to release their energy.
B. G.
Generally pretty quiet, and a nice place to sit down, though they need more benches. There's a little playground for toddlers, but it's too small for kids 4 and older.
r. j. r.
Wonderful spot for the whole family.
Great for picnics, or just a moment of
quiet reflexion. Children's play area.
Magnet for when sunny. Wheelchair
access. Surrounded by terrific shops.

Bloomsbury Square is a garden square in Bloomsbury built in the early 17th century. The garden itself is open to the public and there's also a nicely maintained play area for children. Generally, the square is well maintained with plenty of benches to sit in a peaceful environment. At the northern end of the square is a statue of Charles James Fox, a Whig politician of 18/19th century. At the southern end is the entrance to the well known Sicilian Avenue shopping street.
In 1694, a duel took place here between Scottish economist and financier John Law and Edward 'Beau' Wilson, where the latter was killed.

A garden is a planned space, usually outdoors, set aside for the display, cultivation and enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. The garden can incorporate both natural and man-made materials. Garden may refer to: Botanical gardens, parks and arboreta; an area of land set aside for the display, conservation and study of flora - Wikipedia
A. B.
Just a nice enjoyable square. More charming than some of the overly preened ones. Nice mature trees and plenty of interesting places nearby.
A. A.
Lovely little square surrounded by historical buildings.
Small toddlers play area.
Lovely place to have lunch or meet with People.
B.
Bloomsbury Square is city square near the British Museum and makes a decent place to stop to rest your feet when visiting this area of the city.
The square was developed in the middle of 17th century by the 4th Earl of Southampton. Originally known as Southampton Square, this was one of London's earliest garden squares.
The area adopted the name, Bloomsbury Square, in the 1730's. Today, you can find a mostly rectangular shaped park with a a nice statue of Charles Fox, children's play area, few park benches and some small garden area.
Overall, Bloomsbury square is ok but perhaps better serving of local residents than visitors who might prefer nearby Russell Square instead.
Y. B.
A little oasis but nothing special. The play area is designed for tiny tots and it looks as though homeless people and/or revellers leave their cans and litter around the fence. Good to see benches for those who are simply weary or who.have no outside space at home.
C. H.
Lovely street food attached to an old london red phone box behind this park, sells the best falafel. All was vegan too so I was extra happy! The park was busy but peaceful... lovely to get off the main road and enjoy my lunch surrounded by greenery, people chatting, and exercising too.
M. S. K.
Small children's playground is hated so it's useful when you are just want to let the kids run around
g. h.
Love sitting here. Great little park. Very old and large trees.
S. C.
Nice area, unfortunately when I went there was a strong smell of weed, and some man who came up to me and my friends and shouted to himself which got people pretty scared. Now this isn't some hero or macho man kind of story but I didn't want to make the man think we were scared of him so that he didn't take offence but my fellow friends got up from the bench we were at and I followed suit. The man ended up taking our bench and that's my experience at Bloomsbury Square Garden.
I doubt this will be a scenario you encounter but both events happened within I guess 10 minutes of each other. Perhaps not the best park area to take your kids.
Y. E. D.
Bloomsbury Square is a garden square in Holborn, Camden, London. Developed in the late 17th century, it was initially known as Southampton Square and was one of the earliest London squares. By the early 19th century, Bedford House along the north of the square had been demolished and replaced with terraced housing designed by James Burton.
R. F.
Convenient parking. Not always easy to find but that's what Google Maps is for...one can get a great deal with JustPark
j. b.
Pleasant small square, well-maintained and surrounded by some attractive and interesting old buildings including the imperial and imposing Victoria House. Small enclosed toddlers' playground but no toilets here. Gertrude Stein* briefly lived at no:40. Now you know.
Quote: * "Whenever you get there, there is no there there."
M. G.
A quiet place to sit on a bench and eat a picnic before heading into nearby British Museum...an oasis of greenery to just chill. The park was well used, but clean.
P. T.
This public garden is an oasis of calm in the middle of of one of the worlds busiest cities, it is well kept, clean and tidy as well as beautifully laid out, working not far away it is easy to get to and nice to sit quietly or eat a packed lunch away from the offoce and the maddening (not just the madding!) Crowds.
J. N.
Great place for a cheeky spliff bang in the centre of town.
D. F.

Y. R.
Nice little park in the heart of London. It's got a tiny playground for the little ones too.
j. l.
Beautiful park to enjoy the life of frech air
g.
First time ever to use this garden, but had seen it sometimes atop a bus. Having bought lunch and not wanting to sit in the cafe because I'm forced to use the Covid 19 app, I found myself using this fairly peaceful little garden in the square. Adequate number of benches, and litter bins, made my lunch break quite pleasant on a sunny, late summer afternoon.
K. M.
Secure-ish car park. Gated entry and exit with cameras. Tight spaces
S.
Lovely garden in Central London.
E. T.

L. L.
Lovely city centre space
Z. Z.
Fantastic garden to relax, great place to enjoy lunch in the centre of London
P. A.
Very very cheap at £2 per hour if booked online beforehand. Creepy to walk out of but worth it to go the furniture shops in Tottenham Court Road and avoid the Tube.
n. g.
Nice green place, sat in the shade and relaxed abit after walking alot in the heat!
S. A.
Lovely garden and very close to London british museum and centre of lots of places in london
S. P.
Very secure car parking and if you pre book it's very good value

P. T.
This public garden is an oasis of calm in the middle of of one of the worlds busiest cities, it is well kept, clean and tidy as well as beautifully laid out, working not far away it is easy to get to and nice to sit quietly or eat a packed lunch away from the offoce and the maddening (not just the madding!) A. A. S.
Such beautiful play ground
L. R.
Nice little park and great place for parking
T. D.
Beautiful and tranquil
J. H.
Another oasis in central London, plenty of space to relax and escape
T. D.
An excellent square to relax, it's safe for children
T. A. -. F. L.
During hot days in spring / summer, it's nice to be able to sit here, to cooling down, sitting under the shades. Lots of chairs & the grass area for a little picnic. The downside is too many pigeons around.
R. W.
Fine somebody feeds an unnaturally large flock of pigeons at lunch time.
J. H.
Another oasis in central London, plenty of space to relax and escape
W. H.
Hidden gem of a car park. Reasonable rates and lots of spaces, at least on a weekend. I found it very convenient for a show in the West end.
If you get stuck for places on the way down there are lots on the way back up, it's in an old wartime gas store I would assume (cylinder shape) with the way down running just above the way up. A bit like two springs running the same direction inside one another. Driving down there were loads of cars and on the way out there were hardly any.
S. P.
Lovely idylic square / place.. Beautiful too !!
l. b.
Car park security very good but the spaces are too tight. The pedestrian exists, entrances and walkways I think there should be more lights and cctv on the foot path and stairs to and from the car park as there were urines every where and very smelly.
n. o.
This a wonderful park in the centre of London to sit and relax it also has convenience of a car park which is built underneath the park.
f. r.
this is a great little spot to kind of take a break and get away from it all. i stumbled upon this area and i really enjoyed the peace and quiet. there is not a lot of touristy things to see nearby but that's not why i came here. i really just wanted to get a little more local and the restaurants here also looked delicious
P. W.
It was very busy with many people doing the same thing as me, having their lunch and a break from the office. I was early for a meeting with a client between meetings so it was a useful stop. I managed to gets a space on a bench which was great, many people sitting on the grass as the sun was shining. If you are in or around the Holborn or Tottenham Ct Road area of London and want a spot for a picnic this could suit. Bins provided at the exit for your rubbish.
A. K. (.
Pizza in the park lol. Nice place to have a relaxing lunch away from the traffic 😀
S. M.
Very nice space to chill in Westminster. MOD to ur right and London eye in your face .. u can get a coffee or a beer and have a break from London's madness in this beautiful, well looked after fancy garden.
T. F.
Great place to sit and relax in the middle of bustling London
H. T.
It's a City centre park near to Holborn it's ideal for lunch time to escape and have a relaxing break. Lots of park benches, always bussy when the weather is good. My only issue is people that don't respect public areas and leave rubbish anywhere because there too ideal to go to one of the many litter bins provided.
N. R.
It's not a quiet Square, with a busy road at the side, but a nice enough place to sit. There are too many pigeons and too many people feeding them.
B. C.
Very close to the British Museum. The parking underneath is in a double helix spiral below. Book online and save a few quid. Nice little park. A friend said it reminded him of New York City.
J. B.
Bosky, verdant, cool break from the hot streets on a July day. Well maintained to my view and clean. I looked for explanation of who the 'Charles Fox' was to deserve such an imposing statue but found nothing. There's a medallion set in the ground at the center of the gardens to celebrate the founding of the square - an image in the middle has worn to near invisibility. 5 stars if I'd found interpretive material in the gardens.
C. S.
Lovely area, very quiet ,perfect place to sit with a takeaway coffee
J. d. B.
Beautiful park to spend a sunny morning in London
M. J.
Amazing and a Beautiful park right in the heart of London, you can see swans, geese and even pelicans, also friendly squirrels. When the flowers are in bloom, they are breathtaking. And you have horse guards parade and Buckingham Palace right there.
V. P.
Not sure why I'm being asked to review a green space. I used the car park underneath, it was fine. I'm not from the city so I don't see the value in reviewing grass but the car park was reasonable and within walking distance of where I was headed.
B. L.
Used Bloomsbury secure parking. Lifts have been out of action for a couple of months. Nice in the park above. Someone was smoking some funny stuff and dogs mess on the grass.
L. R.
Nice little park and great place for parking
I. S.
Excellent for walking, jogging, reading & picnics. Love coming here to relax from all the hustle & bustle of busy London. There is a small play area for kids.
j. s.
Perfect place for stay. Very friendly staff and good quality of food.
A. A. S.
Such beautiful play ground
m. b.
I liked this place because you can park your car underneath the Square. Charges are very low if paid in advance online. The Square itself is quite elegant.
N. B.
really easy to use, paid for cat park prior to arrival. easy to park and good signage through out.
m. l.
Online if you have the app prices are very cheap if you want to pay for parking for short or long periods of time and it's safe and secure
M. Z.
Love this space. It's so comfortable and convenient. Safe for families, as a no car zone... good selection of shops, cafes, cinema and Waitrose, all in one place. So convenient.
S. c.
Lovely Georgian square between Holborn and Russell Square. Very busy Mon to Fri lunch times, and the trash cans are often overflowing. Great place to rest after a trip to the wonderful British Museum
A.
The only reason for giving 4 star instead of full 5 star is because of narrow car park spaces but hey! This is london, everything here us small except people.
overall a brilliant place to park, it very easy to locate, and if booked in advance, it will save you lot of money, paid 11 pounds for 5 hours, now, that for London city, it was a bargain, easy to get to some of the trendy cafes and also if travelling to different areas by underground.
Will deffinately use again if we are in Holborn again.
C. F.
Booked with Just Park, good price for 2.5 days but a bit if a faff trying to get out (call centre controlled)
G. D.
This is a pleasant open space in which to grab a break
C.
The garden is fine. Nothing special about it. It is clean and pleasant to wait for friends on a sunny day. There is an underground car park there too.
U. H.
A lovely space for fresh air or to eat your sandwiches. Small playground for very young children.
P. M.
Nice spot in the hustle and bustle of Bloomsbury for a reflective lunch in the sun during spring / summer. Lots of places that do takeaway food nearby - check out the plaque in the middle of the square for more on this historic square
D. C.
Remembering many years ago, working in Victoria House when it was Head Office of L.V.F.S. in their Estates dept. To sit out in the Square to eat my salad baguette. Wonderful to have space like this in the capital, London. Definitely 5 stars.
A. M.
Handy Car park for an all day visit. Fairly secure.
A. R.
A nice little park.
G. J.
Lovely spot of green in the smoke. Bloomsbury, close to Holborn. Good place for a walk. Well kept plants and greenery, loads of grass to flop on.
R. B. -. E. k.
I like Bloomsbury Square Gardens in the colder months as it is surrounded by such great architecture and is far less busy than the Spring/Summer when it can get very busy. What do you expect with the British Museum next door!
It is a lovely green space and my favourite is the statue of Charles James Fox, the 18th Century politician renowned for his stance and campaigning against slavery, and he led a very colourful life.
S. R. (.
Small park sitting above Bloomsbury parking. Close to the British Museum. Small area for children to play up to the age of 6 and supervised by children 6-8.
A. H.
Reasonable price for central London, getting back across the west end was difficult. I should have headed towards the city and across the Thames at London Bridge, which would have been against the flow of traffic.
E. A.
Nice space. There's a small play area for kids under 6. Metal benches with lots of shops and a few restaurants nearby. Beware of the pigeons.
T. C.
Found sandwiched between the British Museum and the Museum archive this is a beautiful square surrounded by Victorian buildings. The squares gardens are gated and only accessible during daylight hours.
B. K.
Very nice little park near the British Museum. Great little play area for children too which is very rare in park squares in central London.
P. L.
Well organised (apart from overcrowded ladies toilets that is!), splendid exhibitions, world class architecture, well worth an afternoon in London as the main attraction.
D. J.
Great place to grab lunch in the sun. Not too many seats spread around but plenty of space on the grass unless it's a really nice day
A. G.
A lovely city garden. On a good day its a perfect place for lunch with a friend. Lots of grass for picnicking and benches too.
J. B.
So nice and quite, hard to believe I was in the middle of town, even has a little under 6 park there, loads of seats as well
A. R.
Great place to see, to chill, to enjoy with friends and family. Take a load off and get drawn in to a place of peace and solace in the middle of the metropolitan hub. Loved every minute.
L. A.
Whenever I feel the need to commune with Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell, and the whole Bloomsbury clan a walk through the Gardens feeds the soul. Beautiful, serene, quiet solitude awaits in a bustling city that calls you back much too soon.
j. c.
very good inner city park
S. B.
Very tranquil gardens in centre on Bloomsbury Square. Nice to sit and relax on a sunny winter afternoon.

Lovely little play area for little ones.
C. K.
It's alright, ain't crowded most of the time.
B. H.
One of the oldest squares of London, near the British Museum. It was mentioned in Evelyn's diary on 9 February 1665. Benjamin Franklin visited Sir Hans Sloane in his house on the north side of the square. Restored to its former looks in 2001. Statue of Charles James Fox on the northern side.
T. C.
Small park. Play area for children. Large Central area and path around perimeter. Plenty of benches around the place.
A. A.
There is a nice little play area for children that have behaved a bit too long at the British Museum next to the park.
B. F.
Easy access, good location, secure. Parking booked online massive discount on hourly rate.
F.
Theyre doing a lot of work on it,planting new trees, shrubs etc,so by next summer (2019) it should be really nice to go relax in.
A. D.
Around £11 for a fish and chips (£8 fish and £3 extra for chips). Quantity is reallly good, it's a lot. Take away.
P. J.
Initially named as Southampton Square, Bloomsbury Square was developed by Humphry Repton late 1600s under direction of the Fifth Duke of Bedford in 1723. Recently refurbished in 2006/7, it remains one of the oldest London squares.
D. B.
Nice green patch in the middle if a busy city to relax with enough place to sit or on the greens. Loved the relaxing environment.
N. B.
Great little park for kids to run off some steam. Playground geared towards 2-6 age range.

J. F.
A basic green space with a very small children's play area. It's a good place to sit in the sunshine
