Reviews of Highbury Fields
B. M.
Highbury Fields is our local park/public green space. We spend lots of time there, walking, exercising, passing through en route to elsewhere. It’s not an especially large park (although I gather it’s the largest continuous outdoor space in the London Borough of Islington) and parts can get quite busy, but if you know where to go you can find some quiet space. There are tennis courts, other sports courts, enclosed areas which are supposed to be free from dogs (albeit they sometimes get in when the gates are left open and owners are irresponsible), a children’s play area with a range of toys, a small cafe and three public toilets, with Highbury Parade shops, lower Holloway Road and a range of public transport options nearby.
One word of caution: I’ve heard reports recently of some phone snatching and muggings, so you should be vigilant, especially when walking with your phone out. I don’t know how crime rates here compare to other green spaces in London. All I can add is that I haven’t experienced any crime in the Fields myself, and I’ve lived next to the park for c.15 years.

My local park. Decent but nothing great. The worst thing is that the soil is so wet, I went for a walk with my dog 3 days after it rains and I almost got stuck in the middle of the park- the whole surface was muddy it felt like quicksand! My new trainers were ruined but I manage to escape lol
Dog owners in the area are very friendly, there is also tennis court
N. E.
I must say, a lovely gem slightly hidden from the main street of Highbury. The playground has a relatively big sandpit, a splash area and a section for older kids to play. The rest of the field is well kept. Excellent place to gather for a picnic.
J. D.
Large open green space in Highbury. Plenty of room for Frisbee & ball sports.
There's a decent children's play area suitable for younger and older kids.
One issue at present is the lack of toilet facilities which can make extended outings a bit tricky. The council owned swimming pool next door can be helpful for the desperate!
T.
Lovely fields in daylight. Just don't walk through after dark, it's dangerous and you are likely to get mugged. Unfortunately it's been this way for the past 20 years. There is not enough CCTV or police patrols!
S. R.
Love this place just across the road from Highbury and Islington Station. Puppy central when I was there earlier. Lovely place to chill after a long day
T. E.
It's really nice park you can walk your dog there they have a separate park for children and another separate part inside the park for young kids like toddlers they have a water feature there in the park in the summer it gets really busy inside the park really nice place to take your children or go for a walk with your dog also there is a swimming pool there but you have to pay for that there is an ice cream van at the entrance of the park but he's quite expensive McDonald's is just across the road and Wetherspoons you can take children in their up till 7 at night they do nice food in there
S. D.
I've always loved Highbury Fields but since moving out of London almost 16 years ago I rarely go there anymore. The last two weekends I've had the pleasure of revisiting. Yesterday was particularly lovely as the sun was shining and there were lots of happy people out with their dogs, young children or playing tennis on the enclosed courts.
It made me feel quite nostalgic.
D. W.
Someone told me about the kids park, and although I'm not that close to it, me and the kids went there for the day, and they loved it👌 great sandpit and a really big slide. It as toilets and when we was there it also had an onsite office with park staff on hand. A little gem
M. P.
Great neighborhood, great park, great runs
C. H.
Nice park with some opinions for sport. The are outdoor tennis courts and an indoor leisure centre at one end. The park itself consists of several meadows, not that much flowers like a royal Park, but every green in the city is appreciated. Some meadows are not surrounded by a fence and therefore open to the public the whole day.
F. M.
Today is such a lovely day for a walk in one of my local park, it's quite spacious to social distance, smthought today the park Cafe is closed☹️, it's usually open, I was looking forward to a lovely coffee and 🍰
B. M.
Love this park, so peaceful.
I. P.
Nice place to sit and read a book if the weather is good and warm.
G. B.
Highbury Fields has been one of the only things getting us through lockdown. The fields are a huge (by local standards) open green space, with plenty of amenities including a playground and WC (currently closed). In the recent good weather, the park has become super busy with children and dog walkers, which after a year inside is very welcome. Easy to get to via Highbury and Islington if coming by public transport, and definitely worth stopping by for some fresh air if you’re in the area.
M. D.
Classic East End Pie and Mash cafe. Old style bench seating with solid marble tables. Limited menu, low prices and slow vegan option. Cold, with front door left wide open. Sawdust floor, friendly staff.
M. C.
A well designed, wonderful, bright, lively tree lined, green space with a variety of play equipment and short circular walks, attracts families, couples, individuals of all ages, young mums, responsible walkers with their pets, older persons ambling leisurely, all insulated from one of the busiest traffic junctions in London.
Z. H.
A great open space away from the madness of Highbury corner lined by Georgian houses. There are fenced off grass areas at the north end reserved for people to relax without the fear of stepping in dog poo and being kicked in the face by a ball. There is also a MUGA area for football, basketball and tennis courts. Great for a short walk.
I. A.
Extremely busy due to lockdown ease... its a lovely place for a run. Just be mindful of some people avoiding social distancing rules!
W. D. A.
It is always pleasantly, pleasing. While saying this, it has an satisfaction that is appreciated much seen on those that I see there. One that also much appreciated by the animals, as well as those whom I have seen passing, and as those who are corroborated by physical fitness. And as to add futher, it has its own account for seasonal satisfactions.
A. B.
I like it very much. Is a clean park and you find easily trashes bins. If there will be more benches would be great, but people seemed to enjoy even laying on the green fields (even in autumn time 🍁🍂🍃). Is allowed to walk pets but only on large areas, not on playground area. Is a perfect place to escape from 'real world' and to have a bit of fresh air for the brain. When you enter in the park it gaves you the sensation you are in another world -- I mean haveing the feeling that is a great place to be in.
j.
Myself and Frazer created the podcast “The One Fifty Marchers” which commemorates those from the LGBTQ+ community who took part in the first LGBTQ+ demonstration on November 27th, 1970.
The marchers went to Highbury to protest the arrest of Louie Eakes who had been arrested for cottaging. There is a plaque to commemorate this just on the south entrance of the park. It is rich with history and this March is a part of that. A beautiful and open place.
T. H.
I'm glad they have resisted the urge to stick a multistorey car park on it. There's a really comprehensive playground at the bottom end, and one of the more mentally challenging parkruns round the outside.
k. v.
Love walking through Highbury Fields to get to Upper Street or Holloway Road. Especially on a warm sunny day. Lots of people are sunbathing, picnicking or having a barbecue. And there are 2 places to buy coffee or snacks. Lovely. Parks make living in a stressful city so much more bearable...
I. F.
Nice parkrun course.... Five laps so you can practice and bit of gentle downhill then uphill running.
J. L.
Fantastic children’s park. For all ages. Sand pit and wet area in summer
S. W.
Beautiful small park with plenty of grassed areas to sit and relax, go for a run or have a BBQ
K. B.
🎬📡 I need to make Big Vision Broadcasting with parking lot! Cause we need to say goodbye to Highbury Fields and hello to Big Vision Broadcasting! 📡🎬
l. C.
Nice place for kids and parents 🙂
J. M.
Another outdoor space touching Highbury & Islington, a very polluted traffic junction and busy Highbury Barn with 5 schools. Very useful but need more trees.
j. b.
Essentially a large grassed section with a run of Georgian terraces along the eastern flank and a northern portion with a sports field, courts, an active playground and cafe amongst the maintained amenities. Barbecuing permitted here; a contentious issue.
Mature trees surround the park which is pleasant enough but not especially so. Commendable but not worth a special trip unless local or stumble upon by happenstance.
K. S.
Went here for the Highbury Fields parkrun, which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am. Not a particularly interesting course - five laps of the park - but it is definitely challenging as each lap has a slope of several hundred metres. As with all parkruns I've visited, there's a definite sense of community and they are welcoming to everyone.
A. F.
A relaxing greenspace, only a few steps from Highbury & Islington Tube/Rail/Overground Stn and plenty of buses.
A. W.
Lovely playground and has a toilet in it too.
J. B. (.
Good green space to walk around or take your dog.
M. J. H.
It's a good place to go for a run, can be dangerous when it gets dark.
K. S. S.
Very nice parque, one of my fav, however, I do not think it should be allowed to have barbecues, in the summer it must be a nightmare to live there.
m. p.
Lovely park close to arsenal stadium to have a walk and relax a bit.
L. F.
Open and relatively spacious. Very busy on warm summer nights though!
M. P.
Classic informal park, characterful cafe at one end & excellent coffee from Tina's ice cream van at the other.
A. A.
My favorite park in the area for a walk or for a run. Beautiful to see families, dogs and fitness lovers sharing the space! 🐶🏋️♂️
P. G.
Fantastic place. You can just take a rest for a while.
p. a.
Beautiful place to stop and collect your thoughts a moment. Love the mature foliage.
M. C.
Since the leisure centre has been turned to ashes and the council have money to burn , Highbury fields is still a very good park to sit and look around at all the old architecture and let yourself unwind .
D. M.
A shady oasis of calm in North London, located within a lovely residential area, but you need to pick your time as it gets very busy at weekends and on warm days. Good place to exercise, nice play area for children, next to a leisure centre (gym/pool - both being redeveloped right now). Tennis courts and football courts at top end. A small, out of the way open air cafe. Plenty of outlets locally for refreshment.
m. p.
Nice park. I only travelled here to take my child to stay and play in the morning
M. D.
Lovely park to walk around or have a BBQ in the summer
M. K.
It's a lovely area for socializing with your pet.
H. S.
Nice park. It's getting filled up quickly. They recently updated this park with more swings and seesaw. Sometimes parents leave toys in the sandpit, so everyone can play.
G. C.
One of the best parks in Islington, and always a hit with the kids. The playground has recently been updated with a new water play area, and is a big improvement over the old one. The "fort" is a mainstay attraction, and everyone always seems to have fun.
J. P. J.
Less chavs than other parts of Islington. You can hang out with friends on a summers evening and not be bothered by horrible youths and their dogs.
G. P.
I love Highbury Fields! Great to walk around or cycle around for exercise. Lovely with the autumn colours.
C. O.
Great place for a peaceful stroll away from the busy Holloway Rd
S.
Convenient little park for a dog walk if you're travelling through London and want to jump off the train, also a nice place to sit and have a coffee away from the bustle of the main roads.
b. m.
Public toilets (free and pay-as-you-do a No.2), cafe of sorts. Tennis courts (U have to book)
R. W.
Relaxing park lots of dogs off leash but they were all friendly
J. H.
Lovely spot, super chilled but can also get little busy in the summer.
M. L.
Great spot in the city, with a playground for kids, in a great location next to the station Highbury and Islington, so it's very convenient to commute. As all green areas has a great vibe. There are public toilets in case you need, they are inside the children's playground.
B. “. W.
How could anyone post less then 5* for a park, that would just be criminal.
Highbury fields has multiple sections, it's got a small kid's playground which my son loves. It's got toilet facilities that are monitored. There is a ice cream van when it gets hotter.
The other sections are mainly just greenery and benches. There is a bigger kid's playground which has basketball hoops and football goal posts.
J. P.
One of a few places in London where you can have BBQs!
M. K.
Love this place always reminds me of my child hood and highshools time
W. C.
The park is so nice, great for kids, and for walks too. There's a playground area, different green areas to enjoy and toilet facilities.
I. A.
Great playground, safe for kids and fun activities for all different ages. The fields itself is beautiful, surrounded by some of London's most stunning houses. Tennis courts, football, lots of space, accessible toilets, a tube station and lots of local shops... Highbury Fields is a real treat in the community. Must see.
A. S.
Definitely ruled by students field. Very vibrant place.
t. g.
Really nice park. Good for kids
O. D.
Great park to enjoy in summer. BBQs are permitted and are controlled.
K. B.
Great park. Good for dogs too
O. L.
Nice place to go for a walk or sit and relax. Very spacious and especially in the morning, it's nice and quiet.
J. S.
Great playground, both my children love the place. We cant wait to get the bbq out this year as it's the only social gathering currently unhindered.
N.
Nice park. Good cafe.
A. C.
Lovely area with good coffee shops close by. Vast open space for dogs and BBQs with separate closed in areas which are dog free and good for small children. However since lockdown I have found hazards in the grass: broken glass, used wipes and more rubbish.
R. M.
Very good children's play ground. Lots of amusements (swings and sand pit that sort of thing) Clean and tidy and safe for the young ones. Swimming pool still closed after a year! The fields are open lots of room to run around and play ball games. Pleas do not take your dog of lead and make sure you clean up after them!
R. A. G.
Beautiful, leafy park within a pleasant, upmarket enclave of North London.
Accessible from all over town due to exceptional transport connections and bolstered by a plethora of local eateries, cafés, etc.
B. M.
Great local park, lots of space to walk dogs, go for a run, sit and see friends on the grass. The largest outdoor space in Islington. Lots of big, mature London Plane trees. Great cafe at the top end of the fields.
e. t.
Highbury Park has been a place I've been going to for over 50 years. It's always busy when the sun's shining
A. O.
Great for picnics, or for exercising your dog.
J. T.
Nice area but all the people are homeless
G. M.
A great early morning tennis session with coach Viren - he's the best!
S.
Decent field, not much else to it. If you have hayfever come with antihistamines, pollen count is usually very high. A Tesco's and Sainsbury's are nearby.
BBQ's aren't allowed and haven't been for a while in case you're wondering.
L. C.
Nice green park, with tennis court at the end and a ice-cream truck at the beginning.
A relaxing place surrounded by beautiful houses to enjoy the sun and the green
S. G.
Good space. Small. Clean. Nice place to take a break. Not too noisy.
R. A.
Peaceful tree lined park. Nice to relax in summer. Lovely, large Plain trees to ground your spirit.
M. H.
Highbury fields is lovely in summer and winter
L. B. S.
Nice park, what else can I say
A. D.
Well, we expected to see something more than just a field full of people. Playground for kids is good. The fact that you can use bbq in park is great. But there is big problem with toilets, there's not enough of them, too many people just go to do their things just around the park or in the bushes...
A. D.
We love Highbury Fields! The play park is great for kids and there's lots of room for all to run around. Dog & Family friendly. Be warned.... There are plans to build more public toilets but at the moment there is only 1 dodgy public loo at either end of the park.
T. S.
Very good, lots of friendly dogs.
L. T.
Took kids to play and adventure park. Stayed 5 hours, enough for all ages to do. Spotlessly clean toilets and staff on hand. We loved it
S. E.
This park is very easy with kids a big part, little cafe tennis courts, football pitches, a good sized playground with lots going. Large climbing frame, sand area water fountain many sings and much more including agree slide. Nice shaded hated areas great for taking babies to roam around and there is a one o clock club which I believe is £2 per child.
J. C.
Great place for dogs and football
t. j.
Fun for kids, great playground, ice cream van, water fountain and other activities.
A. A.
Nice park, BBQ's here in the summer. There is a big slide, climbing frame and play area for children at the bottom of the park next to the leisure centre. A great place to come relax with friends.
B. H.
Highbury Fields is a lovely park with an excellent playground, dog free zones,a cafe and tennis courts,I've been going to this park since I was a child and I love it as an adult.
A. H.
I've been here a couple of times to play tennis. The booking process is easy enough and there are plenty of courts to choose from. The quality of the courts are fine you just need to turn up with your rackets and tennis balls. If you drive here you might want to park the other side from where Google Maps might point you to otherwise you might have a longer walk than you would prefer.
R. S.
Great for dog walking, BBQs on sunny days though go early because it can get very packed. Great for kids has a playground right next to the fields does have age restrictions which I think is no one above the age of 16 unless they have a child with them, also has pitch you can use plus a cute little cafe.
K. F.
It had been raining heavily when we were there so the paths and the grass were pooled with water but it didn't put a damper on our enjoyment of here
L.
My local park with much to do, from cycling, tennis, football and more, along with a large play area with lots of equipment for various ages including sand pit, zip wire, climbing frames, swings and slides. Both the park and the play area can get very busy, particularly on warmer days. It is popular with people jogging and dog walking and when the weather is good there are many having barbecues.
M. M.
Beautiful open space, one of the only London locations you can BBQ, but if you bring a disposable, you need to make sure you have something under it so it doesn't scorch the grass. It has a few different areas and on the side nearest to the station, there is a public pool and gym run by Better. Great place to walk dogs, have a large picnic, go for a run, nice short walks and bring the kids.
R. C.
Beautiful park complete with small children's playground with mini zip wire! Ice cream van in summer and lovely to grab a hot drink at Pret (or bring your own flask!) and sit on a sunny bench to chill. Bbqs allowed during season. Clean up after yourself and respect community if visiting! Great vibe on a hot summer day.
J. F.
Good open space with well looked after kids playing area, tennis courts and football pitches. Nice little café for drinks and snacks.
B. J.
Nice clean Park for picnics and fun with friends and family.
M. A.
It's a nice green open space with benches in the middle of the city. Bbq are allowed. There is play ground for the kids and a gym. Nice place for a run. Love it
R. L.
Info on Highbury Fields
Islington’s largest park. There are lots of things to do, including playing sports and enjoying the playground.
It has;
Children's playground with sand pit, water play feature and toilets
Bandstand , One O'Clock Club.l, Oasis Café, Boer War memorial, Highbury Pool and Fitness Centre
Designated a Site of Local Importance to Nature Conservation
Barbecues
The new adventure play structure is open. After consulting with local children and families, it has been designed to encourage children to take a more adventurous approach to play, encouraging jumping, swinging, climbing and balancing.
J. W.
Decent spot for a BBQ. The toilets are really far away and there's an overgrown soft muddy area to avoid. Having to out the BBQ out at 7 or 8 was annoying but understandable - could probably do with clearer signs saying that would be the case.
N. S.
A very nice bright and airy gym. Great idea of accessing the health suit via the changing rooms. Changing rooms had lovely lockers... showers dud need a bit of a clean... all in all a nice environment
D.
It's a average to small park with big trees. Tbh if you're a runner/jogger novice or pro, it's a good park to run around. The park is split into a few different zones such as tennis courts, football and basketball, the bandstand, kids area, a smaller green area just in front of the gym and two larger green areas.
A. M.
Good place for a picnic and Frisbee close to Highbury and Islington Station. Plus cafe, toilets, bike path and tennis courts.
T. T.
Decent park, and one of the few I can find that still allow you to do BBQs. It can get pretty crowded and smokey though when there are lots of people firing up their grills so make sure you pick a good spot. Facilities are good as it has public toilets (be prepared to walk depending on where you are in the park) and lots of places to dump your rubbish as well as dedicated bins for your disposable BBQs or ashes/coal. The park has guards that patrol around to make sure everyone is safe. Only downside is that the bins overflow at the end of the evening so could do with more frequent emptying on busy days.
M. H. (. P.
Very nice neighbourhood with smiley happy people.
K. M.
Highbury fields are open, relaxing, away from the roads but easily reached. Open all hours and looked over by lovely houses.
F. F.
Amazing park in the North of London. Super well maintained and not crowded. It has a park run 5k every Saturday. And it allows barbecues. Beautiful kids area and a Better Gym. Couldn't be more perfect.
Y. B.
Kids love this park. The staff are fantastic 👍
I forgot my water bottle and the office provided me and the kids unlimited pints of water, thanks guys,on a hot 🔥 day it was appreciated
Big sand put with rides for the littlens
And they love the zip line and big slidesxxx
Brilliant ❤️😀
S. w.
It was cold the time I went but it's a really nice park with all the workout park, kids park and basketball pitch
A.
Nice little park to just chill out in, does get busy during summer!
S. P.
Perfect for the family. Nice and clean, well maintained, great for barbecues and great for kids and adults.
N. C.
The gym has been revamped. THANK GOODNESS for the dry room. Finally built for those who want to go early mornings. Equipment are really good too. Staff are funny and welcoming. Just need to have more spin classes.
P. L.
A large, flat, city park. No gates or fences. Well used by all ages for leisure and excercise. I only give 4 stars rather than 5 because it doesn't have the flowering shrubs and bedding of the large central parks.
t. g.
Great space, very clean and a really good playground close to a lot of food shops tesco was 2mins away
R. D.
Lovely green area to take a breath of fresh air away from the nearby traffic.
Great in summer to enjoy the weather, maybe with a barbecue, but also in winter to relax and enjoy the mist in colder mornings.
Close to the main road and Tube and bus routes, easily accessible.
R. M.
Play area very good for children of all ages. Water fountain and swimming pool still closed. LBI could do a lot better with a minimum of effort and out lay. Why is it children's amenities is always at that bottom of the list for improvement?
C. E. J.
A lovely, leafy park with lovely walking strolls and things to do with children, such as playing sports.
J.
Beautiful Day, With My Beautiful Wife In The Dog Free Zone 😊
R. K.
My dad used to bring me and my brothers to this park when we were kids so it's always nice to come back when I bring my niece and nephew. Love showing them around all the apparatus we used to challenge eachother on and am so glad the long slide is still there. The bigger kids' swings are currently boarded up but the baby swings are still available. Probably the only park in Islington with a zipline which is as cool as it was when they first installed it all those years ago. Best one!
A. N.
The park is lovely. Gets ultra busy in the warmer months as expected.
The children's play area is fabulous. New equipment erected late 2016. Plenty of swings and slides for the kids. Lots of ropes to climb.
Close to Highbury & Islington station.
S. J.
Decent, it's a field much like any others and not as large hence at an inevitable disadvantage vs. say Victoria or Hyde Park, but taken as it is has decent green space, decent footpath space for joggers and pedestrians alike - and as a key feature - provisions and permissions for BBQ's - a rarity
X. P.
Good park. No toilet is open...
M. H.
Great park, plus a great coffee man
A. N.
Family oriented. If you looking for somewhere to play tennis, football or just want to stop for a snack or coffee, look no further.
S. H.
Really nice set of fields. Close to transport links and so easily accessible. Has tennis courts a small cafe and public loos. Also a nice ice cream truck.
Y. S.
It is so beautiful and the hills have excellent views and Highbury Fields also have good transport links with 2 stations on the Overground walking distance from the fields.
D. B.
Went to meet a friend and found an empty bench under a splendid shady tree. If you visit, take something to put your rubbish in, just in case the bins are full, then take it home. Some not so civic minded have not been doing so...
K. S.
wide space, tall slides, flying fox, climbing webs, sand boxes, one of the best playground in the proximity, ice cream trucks frequent this place.
T.
Wonderful green space for locals. Be aware that only coin operated "super loos" are available in the park.
A. A.
Dedicated barbeque area, lots of families and groups during summer. Nice atmosphere however not as many flowers and such. There are also free toilets in the park from what I remember. There are signs indicating its location
K. T.
It's some fields with a great play park for the rug rats, there's trees and plants and a bin for used bbqs, it has a sky above and birds fly around sometimes, it has good tennis courts a great cafe and lots of other stuff, look, if you are going to the park, go to Highbury fields. You won't be disappointed.
M. J.
One of my favorite place close to where I live. Always filled with people and movement.
G.
Good park but bring change for the toilets as the south end ones are pay only
M. B.
A great place to jog or walk the dog around. It's also a brilliant location to meet friends or in summer months have have a picnic, kick a ball, play tennis or chuck some frisbies in.
It has the added benefit of being close to Highbury underground station and bus routes as well as Highbury gym and pool. The shops of Upper Street are not far away or if football is your thing then Emirates Stadium (home to Arsenal Football Club) is also walking distance. Enjoy!!
A. B.
Few better places to chill out in the sunshine. BBQ area also available!
I. M. F.
Perfect place for a BBQ in London! Areas of shade and sun with plenty of space. We spent the day on a Sunday and it was not too packed. You can do barbecues in the park, but they should be on a stand (the tray should not touching the ground). The barbecues should be done around the centre of the park (away from trees I guess), or else some council employees will move them there.
F. “.
I love Highbury and Islington, I lived there from 2010 until 2012 and the area is just amazing, little has changed and Highbury Fields is a nice place top socialise, walk and excersice. I love the architecture around there.

Fabulous big ,clean, relaxed, friendly feeling fields. A gd straight pathway from one end to another. Gr8 disabled access. Bench seats around. Nr loads of shops/bars/restaurants, bus stops & a train station. Swimming pool, swing park, tennis courts, a little tots nursery, a children friendly tea room with tons of seating & toys ...now really, what's not to love ????!!!
T. F.
Great park, always good vibes here. You can have BBQs as long as you don't burn the grass.
The tennis courts are well maintained too.
M. A.
Lovely place and crowd. Really good playground area with zipline, go ape stuff, massive sand pit and massive sliders.
A. N.
Big recreational park with different facilities
S. Y.
I shouldn't give 4 stars because this is not Hampsted Heath, but I did :) There is a play ground for kids. Half of the park is dog free, tennis courts, basketball/football areas. Unfortunately, a few homeless people sleeps at/around the park :( still safe and peaceful :) close to underground and bus stops.
M. D.
One of my favourite places in the world. No fences so no kick-out, barbeques allowed, and most children are safely locked away from us all thanks to an awesome playground
p. j.
Nice kids area with new water features, nice park in general
C. C.
A lovely space for all kinds of activities
The toilets are a bit ?
J. M.
Love Highbury park. It's an ideal space to meet friends for a picnic and you can bring your own BBQ. Toilet facilities are however limited to one public toilet.
C. G.
A really great park and a top quality children’s play area. If you want British summertime vibes, this is the place for you.
A. B.
This is my front garden! Great for BBQ and picknick's with friends. If you are going to come please do take your rubbish and respect the local residents. This is a wonderful community area with fitness classes happening regularly and dog walkers in abundance. It's a beautiful Victoria green.
M. W.
Lovely open field park with a children's park, leisure centre and tennis court. Family friendly also great for Bbq in the summer, they have a designated area designed espically for them, would recommend.
L. G.
Honestly one of my most favourite parks ,sweet green and even on a rainy day it's lovely to walk around. An enormous place to have a barbecue and every Saturday a park run is held at 9am.An excellent place to have a drink and ice cream and even a take away pizza😉
M. J.
Been coming here since I was a little boy, now I love taking my daughter to the adventure playground which is also great for hide and seek.
Many fond memories of the football pitch and lots of nice green space in central London.
S. B.
Has an adventure playground for kids and toilets. Football pitches and tennis courts. 3 fields. You can bbq in 1 of them. Often has community events happening. Good spot to chill and suitable for game of football and rounders etc. Fields close to football pitvh are quiter if you want some chill. Benches and trees offer some shade in warmer weather.
B. M.
An excellent open space for the family and friends to meetup children play area, football pitches and a place to play tennis.
J. S.
Nice playground for little ones, nice big grounds to walk and tennis courts as well
M. R. A.
I always enjoy the walk around here but I suppose I am missing little shops where I could treat myself to something. This is purely residential other than the small coffee shop in the park. Nice for a sunny day or for an autumn walk ;)
B. K.
Has football, tennis, netball, basketball courts. The lawns are also nice. Location is very central. Nice place to walk or run as there are separate tracks for it. Would highly recommend it
A. T. A.
A great place to take your kids to, very safe and rarely any injuries. If there is an accident, the park employees have first aid kits.
B. M.
Really nice place to go in the summer and one of the few places which allows bbq. Everyone seemed to be nice and no idiots. Would go again. Literally 5 mins from a train station and a load of pubs and excellent places to eat.
B. H.
Good open space with plenty of grass. Gets extemely busy when the sun is out and there is often a lot of BBQ smoke blowing in your face as it's one of the only fields in North London where taking your own BBQ is legal I believe. Also public toilets are scarce but pubs nearby will do.
e. c.
Beautiful free spirited place to suit all. large open green areas. dog friendly. dog free enclosures. Tennis. Table tennis. Large well equipped playground including sand pit and waterplay.
f. n. l. n.
Green area in north Islington. Nothing special but has some history and few amenities: tennis, football and basket courts, no-dogs area, children playground, council gym and a small coffee kiosk that opens at odd hours. Good for walking the dogs but can get crowded on summery days.
f. i.
This park is simply stunning!!! Lots of fields to play netball, tennis and basketball. Ideal to jog and to play football freely with kids and friends. During sunny days it is ideal for barbecues with friends!
S. H.
An open park surrounded by Hough Grant movie style London townhouses. It's got tennis courts, 2 kids playgrounds, a. If grassy bit for ball games and another big grassy bit for "no ball games". It's open 24/7 and it's hidden from the main road. And if you're lucky an ice cream van will cruise past in the summer. Enjoy.
D. C.
One of the very few parks left in London that still allow you cook and eat a barbecue.
A lovely green area where people meet each other and have fun in many different ways, such as playing in the tennis courts and so on
S. M.
Lovely garden always filled with people of all ages...
J. W.
Beautiful space in Islington with plentiful tennis courts as well as netball and other courts I believe. The cafe has a lot of kids toys outside. Bbqs are allowed in some of the fields (check this with council website before arriving as it might change).
M. C.
Open green space with a wide variety of shops just 2 minutes walk away. Had a great pub lunch, garlic & lemon roast chicken with watercress leaf salad drizzled with a French dressing. In what used to be the Hen & Chickens
C. R.
Lovely park with an adventure playground for kids and a football and tennis area for all ages too. Its open 24hrs a day thankfully if you feel like a walk or a run.
V. R.
Lots for all ages, good zip wire, monkey bars and the famed hugely long slide. And sandpit joy, too. Grass for picnics and feels safe and contained.
G. h.
It's a grass patch. Decent little old school cafe at top in a side bit by children's play area.
C. C.
Nice park and lovely in the sun, sadly it does get super busy and the grass can often be quite long. Some decent shops nearby to pick up a picnic aswell. Parkrun is fun here, but sadly it requires five laps so it's not that great and I prefer Finsbury park which is close by.
N. C.
Great park in the summer. Tennis courts. Football and basketball areas. Swimming baths. Great play area for kid's that can be reserved for children's events, parties etc.
Small tea and coffee shop that's a bit pricey
N. Y.
Fantastic large spaces. There are designated areas for BBQs, tennis courts (rented), public toilets, and a playground.
O. Y.
Small park in Highbury close to Highbury and Islington tube station. Always busy during warm summer days. Barbecue is allowed unless it is too hot. There are some sports facilities including netball and basketball. 9n your way to the park you can shop all what you need in the shops of around Highbury Corner.
S. D.
Very peaceful park, surrounded by beautiful houses that my American friend says reminds him of a Richard Curtis film. Manages to balance being full of people - cycling, tennis, footie, frisbee - with being essentially pretty chilled out.
A. K.
Great park, one of the few that allows bbqs. Gets busy on a nice warm day.
Lots of facilities (tennis courts, kids playground, cafe).
S. V.
Local park with tennis, basket and football playing facilities, very pleseant for families, young adults and everyone else. Space for barbeque has been reduced, which makes it a bit crammed at times, but it is still available.
S. J.
Lovely green space, and never as crowded as Hyde or Regent's. Toilet situation is sadly a little dire. There's a cafe in north field or you can raid Waitrose on Holloway road. Wish I was a kid so I could play on the climbing frame, it looks amazing!
S. C.
Beautiful and peaceful. Felt safe.
K. P.
Lovely urban park. Its much more than a park as there is a swimming pool and some sports fields for team games.
I. A.
Big fields to spend leisure time, working out, train your dogs. It has two tennis courts. There's also a sign said you can do barbecue here. It's a shortcut from Highbury and Islington Tube Station to Aberdeen Park.
K. V.
Good for running around in rectangles and plenty of open space for ball games and beers
J. v. L.
Relaxed place to hang out in summer. Not too busy but it attracts a good crowd, which is a pretty decent reflection of Angel / Highbury. Big upside is that you can use a BBQ here.
R. E.
Nowhere better to enjoy a cold beer in the summer while watching the sun set
G. F.
Nice place to walk and chill, even in the rain on the 23rd december at the end of one of the worst years I can remember. Heres to a MUCH better 2021 people.🙏😇🌲🍾🥂
M. M.
A quiet oasis in the middle of a built up area, it was a delight and surprise. I did not expect this when I was taken for a visit
G. R. M.
Serene atmosphere within abnormally close proximity of Highbury & Islington Station
A. P. R.
Very nice park! I enjoyed a good walk and some relaxing, chill out time there while I visited the area. Very nice! 🌲🌳🌿🌱
A. B.
Beautiful large green space with a good playground at one end.
P. A. C.
A field with trees. Beware the locals complaining about bbq smoke. Avoid a tray bbq as it burns the grass.
T. S.
Lots of nice dogs. 10/10.
r. a.
I visited this area recently, but more at the corner, I go here sometimes to buy a coffee from Pret . ☕
Q. P.
Buzzing atmosphere with all sorts of people in green space with Cafe tennis courts and grass surrounded by grand villas
A. B.
Quite nice medium size local park. Tennis courts, cafe, open grass areas. Good for exercising dogs
F. I.
Highbury Fields is the best park to feel home cozy. Beautiful open space for sport activities.
BBQ is allowed and very appealing for picnic.
m. l.
Great record shop. Friendly staff. Love coming here.
A. C.
If u need to stretch your legs or jog around the track or take your children to the palyground you must go there.
K. D.
One of my favourite places in London! Surrounded by gorgeous houses, you feel like you've time travelled.
D. R.
Excellent park with nice trees and Georgina terraced houses
J. M.
This area when you get the weather is absolutely brilliant nice and large area for BBQs to take place kids and adults to play and for people like me who simply like to sit down and have a read
J. P.
Very close to Arsenal, and a fantastic atmosphere. YOU CAN DO BBQ's!!!!!!!
I. W.
Grew up here, great playground, a cafe and a nice coffee stall, great to walk your dog here.
J. T.
Picnic days are great...! No toilets are not good!! But still great to sit out in the sun and watch people's gilde by.
M. B.
It's not too much of a long walk...and it's pleasant..I like the cafe "oasis in the park " I like the fenced off areas...safe for toddlers.
N. P.
A little oasis opposite Highbury & Islington station, although I'm using ‘little’ figuratively. It's actually quite a large green space which hosts events fairly regularly. There's usually a fireworks display around bonfire night (5th November, but usually on the nearest weekend). Also has a swimming pool located at the southern end that's in an unusual and interesting building. I have not personally ever done more than walk or cycle past it, so can't on its facilities. However, I have performed at the Beck's Music festival (supporting John Cooper Clarke) which took place in an impressive and sumptuous marquee.
D. N.
Highbury Fields has now transform into more family friendly park, barbecue is allowed in the park on sunny days people should check it out great fun I will give it a thumbs up Islington is great place to be.
M. K.
Amazing park..Very clean and also 2 dog free area for those who are allergic on animals
F. M.
Great for children - lovely playground by the leisure centre. Can book tennis courts and free parkrun every Saturday (adults) and Sunday (kids)
D. B.
Get the water fountain working again please
A. W.
One of Londons green open spaces
tennis courts for rent,a cafe ,good mature trees to shade you when its hot.
Pleasant route from Highbury barn to Highbury corner.
re the corner ,please don't ask for a reveiw, its just stupid what they have done, and I dont want to blaspheme.
S. K.
Playing fields are freat. 4 stars not 5 because children toilets are closed. You need to have 20p to pay for the toilet outside of the fields
d.
It's got grass... some trees...
If you like grass and trees you'll probably like it.
Also Tina's ice cream truck does a banging cherry ice🍦
M. W.
Gets very busy in the summer, but most of the park is not gated (somewhat unusual for a park this size in London), which means no kicking out time on long summer evenings.
Barbecues are quite popular.
S. K.
Nice open Park. But can get very crowded on hot days.
T. S.
Lovely green space in London. Accessible by car with on street parking at the weekends
G. M.
Clean and tidy. Had patrols ensuring people were being sensible and tidying as they go.
t. m.
Really nice park good for a walk and fresh air
S. M.
Beautiful park, absolutely great for picnics.
P. J.
Lovely park, great sports facilities, and there are a couple of toilets. Need to book in advance to use astro turf pitches and tennis courts.
P. S.
we went to the fun fare ,it was a very hot day and lots of people where doing barbecues which was great to see ,wish I knew about being able to do barbecue,I would of brought one 😊
A. m.
Lovely park Very relaxing and popular with everyone..so mich to do there
A. C.
A surprisingly spacious green space in north London with tennis courts, football pitches and lots of play areas for kids and families. Lovely place for dog walking
M. N.
Everyone loves Highbury Fields. This is one of the few public parks you're allowed to BBQ in. You're meant to use a standing bbq or put bricks under your disposable, but sadly many don't.
B. E.
Fun park with lots of grassy space on a hill
S.
start your lazy stroll here, first head up to Highness for a coffee and homemade cake, then wonder around the back roads of highbury and admire the little roads, houses and greenery
I. Ł.
Great park, nice people, grass is very green and smooth, nice track for bicycle, big and also very old trees, not damaged , everything looks fine and beautiful
D. P.
Great park for bbq! and you are allowed to use disposable bbq. Is not as crowded as London fields for bbq and you have a Sainsbury nearby and pubs. The area is great.
C. M.
I love this park, good location, reasonable size and with plenty of tennis courts! Sadly bbq is no longer allowed
J.
Lovely play ground for 8 and 5 year old. Some parking close by. Only weekend as rates are extortionate during week days. Highbury station close by.
T. o.
nice park but I've been to better as I thought there's not a lot to do or see
M. Z.
Lovely quiet square like area perfect to sit quietly on the grass
S. L.
Smallish park in Islington. Has accessible toilets, next to a gym and swimming baths, very popular weekdays and weekends. Small but limited café not open all the time, need to check.
F. R.
Lovely peaceful area. Great for chilling and you're allowed to have a bbq!
D. L.
Lovely clean green space in the heart of Highbury and 60 seconds from the station and surrounded by dreamy houses. When the sun’s out this place is buzzing with groups of friends playing softball and BBQing (yes they are allowed), bikini wearing sunbathers, fitness folk with their PTs, and groups of buggy-pushing mums in active wear. Main downside is this being Islington, it’s rife with scum chavs cycling / riding around stealing mobile phones as you use them so beware.
D. P.
Great service and the food is very well presented. Worth the visit!! From a die hard foodie!!
H. H.
👌
C. B.
Lovely park, kept clean, a lot of rubbish bins around so no need to litter (not that you should if they aren’t bins around).
C. R.
If looking for beautiful take a stroll in the area!
J. D.
Fabulous park, perfect for enjoying whatever bits of summer we get in London. There is even a designated area for BBQs if you want to go all out!
S. P.
Calm relaxing....very social and friendly people...luscious Ground...very clean...great place for a walk ir just meeting up with friends!!!
A. D.
Great park which allows barbeques. Situated near Waitrose so great for the summer. Tennis courts and parkrun means you can still be a fitness buff when you're not being an amateur bbq chef
S. S.
Nice piece of parkland to stroll round in the middle of a busy area
A. P.
Often exercise here with my friend. Handily close to Highbury and Islington station. Sometimes has a few potholes which can be potentially dangerous if you are exercising, and was a bit filthy after the recent carnival - otherwise always a pleasant experience, even if little to no facilities.
M. G.
Nice park in a nice area. Very relax and quiet. Good place for BBQ (Depending on weather)
A. A.
brilliant as always. Especially since the council cleared out their mess from the mid alley. Just wish the yobs wouldn't barbeque as much everywhere.
D. H.
It's open for ppl. Like us to use and enjoy life listening to the bird sing and seeing ppl enjoy the nature it has been given to us
G. P.
Good, sometime to busy but ok.
g. d.
Very good
A. S.
Highbury Fields doesn't compare to Hyde Park or Regent's Park. It's more like a large flat green with plenty of space for football games, walking the dog or a spot of frisbee. Lovely spot for a picnic too, and there's always an ice-cream van about.
If you have kids then Highbury Fields is pretty awesome - they have the best playground in the Holloway area including a mini zipwire and a massive slide. It hasn't changed a jot since I was small enough to run about here but it's still awesome.
J. C.
Best part of islington Monday to Friday. Nixe serene setting nice people relaxing in green space. Don't care for weekend crowd much there.
B. B.
Lovely green space, close to shops, restaurants and bars. Great for a sunny day like today.

C. M.
Beautiful place to visit right in the middle of London's hustle and bustle and a great retreat from the traffic
A. P.
Nice communal area. At the moment the whole area is a shambles because of the road works which cause a lot of congestion and seem to last forever
M. N.
Good park, there's toilets which is v important in these times
L.
Small and cozy, the area where you can bbq isn't really that exciting. Expect lots for runners, hipsters and families.
