Reviews of Radford Park
M. D.
Our favorite Park. Beautiful trees blooming spring time. Nice place for a picnic with an amazing view. Perfect for a walk, kind can see lots of different birds, jump bin big muddy puddles. You could go through the woods by the Hooe Lake to the Playground there is also a pub if you would like to stop somewhere after long walk.
R. M.
Lovely family walk through the countryside and lakeside, beautiful views also a lot of history. An ideal place to walk your dog.
S. B.
Lovely little gem of a place.
Tucked away in Plymstock, theres a few routes to choose to take, they are a lovely walk around the river. Many crossings /bridges
Can be as long or as short as needed.
Parking nearby.
Fairly flat, one way does have steps/incline but easy to pace out. Large grass area with plenty of benches.
Few roots on paths but generally easy access for pushchairs/wheelchairs.
Swans/ducks/birds for the kids.
Dog friendly.
V. P.
Lovely place to come for a walk and relax. Great for dog walkers too
Some old castle ruins still remain here
M. M.
Amazing place lovely dog walks shame there no bins for poo bags
t. j.
This little hidden green peace of peace and quite heaven hidden away in plymstock is a must visit with your other half, kids, dogs. Its a beautiful walk through woods along the rivers edge leading to green fields with a lake and estuary towards the far end, beautiful.
C. A.
This park is so beautiful. It's not as big as central park and it doesn't have a kids playground but it's still lovely for a day out. Plenty of grassy areas for picnics and a woods/forest for a more off-road trek. There's a beautiful little stream and a larger pond where you can sometimes feed ducks (it can get a bit stinky though!).
There's some interesting things to look out for, like the info board on the history of Radford park, and the ruins by the entrance to the woods.
There are plenty of pushchair/wheelchair friendly paths. Parking (on road and carparks) and access from all sides too which is good.
J. M.
I love Radford Park! Look out for all John's fabulous work, with lovely natural tree trunk seating dotted about, all done by the man himself (Voluntary). It's a beautiful, picturesque park to walk your dog. Lots of different circular walks that you can take through this park and the woods. Wonderful!
D. M.
A fantastic local retreat with great views and seating throughout the local area. Ideal for short walks and picnics although it can get busy during the Summer season.
J. F.
A beautiful park with an equal amount of open grass plains and winding woodland passages which surrounds the peaceful Radford Lake and it's large array of wildlife. The park is littered with interesting historical ruins around the circuit of the lake and the fascinating shipwrecks to be found in the adjoining Hooe Lake. Although this park is perfect for picnics, dog walking and afternoon strolls I was unable to award it a perfect rating. There are no toilet facilities and nowhere to purchase refreshments. There is a small car park to be found at the entrance on Mayer Way and on street parking at the entrances at Plymstock Road and Kingfisher Way. The park is largely disabled access friendly (except for the lack of a toilet) however I would avoid the Mayer's Way entrance if access is a priority and use the Plymstock Road and Kingfisher Way as your initial point of entry.
C. D.
Nice big green open space with lovely trees and shubs. Large lake with many ducks and sea birds.
Very near sewage recycling plant though
C. J.
Absolutely beautiful place to visit.
Lovely family walk with the dog.
C. B.
I walk through this park many many times, usually when I am walking to Wembury or Mount Batten. It's nearly 5 miles from Plympton where I live so I usually end up having a breather and a banana whilst watching all the ducks and common terns frollicking in the lake and being fed by the locals and their children ( and harrassed by the dogs on the shoreline ! ) Ive never given it much thought but it is quite big, has a nice little wooded area down by the stream and has a walk all the way around the lake. The downside is the sewerage works to the west which although it is well hidden does provide a bit of a pong at times. It's got it's very own folly which could do with a bit of tlc and also attracts swans and cormorants. Worth a visit......not sure there is any public car parking close by though.
D. S.
A lovely park to go walking with the family. A place to feed the ducks and lots of open spaces.
D. R.
Great place to visit and to use for a photoshoot which was why I was there!
A lovely park in the middle of Plymstock on the edge of Hooe lake, definitely worth a visit!
H. B.
Lovely park. I enjoyed a nice stroll around the park with my buggy. Lots of nice picnic spots and a lovely lake where we fed the ducks. Only negatives would be that you have to find side streets to park on and there was sadly lots of litter lying around. Will definitely return here.
J. R.
Beautiful, pictorace and peaceful, lots of different birds, lovely woods, trails and scenic
B.
Lovely park that's a hit with the locals, lots to see, dog friendly, small amount of parking.
N. N.
Ideal for a good walk, quite few things to see.
L. M.
Lovely place to explore with my children
A. N.
Such a nice place for kids to adventure through the woods. Nice lake to feed the ducks too.
A. 2.
Just a lovely walk for all ages with some lovely views
S. H.
A beautiful, unspoilt place to go for a relaxing walk.
J. C.
Nice & quiet place to visit on a warm summer's day. A few ruins to look at on the walk around.
N. N. S.
Lovely park to visit for family day out which is along the Southwest coast path, keep your eyes peeled for a chance to spot the local kingfisher 🐦
P. L.
Lovely place for a walk with the kids
P. B.
Looks a bit tired and worn. Totally lacking in any facilities. No official car park, no toilets. Such a shame, it's a pleasant spot with an interesting history.
e. w.
Park with arboretum. (Trees). Park has a semi tidal lake as the centre piece. On one side of the lake is the open grass area and the other has Radford Park woods. At the Hooe lake end is the head of the lake with a dam constructed to seperate the two areas of water. At high tides sea water can enter the lake via a weir. (Hence the reason that sea water fish are in a fresh water lake.) The park is well used all throughout the year, more so in the summer. Families come and feed the swans and ducks in the lake. From the park you can pick up the old railway path towards Plymouth or go the other way and head to Jennycliff and Turnchapple. After heavy rain the path through the woods and parts of the park can get very muddy.
d. h.
A lovely walk with or with out a dog, and free
I. D.
Lovely Park, great for taking the dog for a walk, a loaf of bread to feed the ducks goes down as well..
L. S.
Very muddy and can be very busy mostly with dog walkers. Most people make an effort to social distance but not all. Ir us a lovely place with good views over the estuary and there is usually some wildlife to see. Wrap up very warm.
A. P.
Lovely grassy fields and hills for kids to run around, with areas for feeding the ducks.
F. J.
Very good place to go for walking your dog and staying out in the summer it is open spacious and good for walking I would definitely recommend
S. H.
Lake gets a bit green and scummy. smell from the sewage treatment plant can be a bit too fruity. but the park is nice and green. the paths are being rejuvenated and when just right and hooe lake is up its rather nice. dogs love it
L. R.
Lovely place for a leisurely stroll around with our Dog 🐕 Monty, he loves running around after his ball though he is a little slower now due to his age 😀
P. J.
Lovely park area with plenty of open grassed areas in sloping land down to the lake. Woodland walks around the lake and local stream, sadly a nearby sewage plant can occasionally pong. Favourite area for dog walkers and cycle route through old railway line to Billacombe.
A. F.
Nice walk, plenty to look at
L. W.
Lovely walks with the dog. Meadows and paths through woods make it more interesting and fun for all. Even places to picnic weather and Covid permitting. About 40 minutes to an hour all the way round. Can be muddy so wear wellies.!!
S. H.
Lovely afternoon walk
A. F.
Lovely park to spend time in or just to transit through. There is plenty to look at and explore, if you find the bridge next to hooe lake and follow it around your straight on the south west coast path to walk to mount batten or the other way to oreston.
There is a small car park, other than that you need to find a side street to access the park if travelling.
No child play areas in the park that I’ve seen but there is one along the path back to oreston which is good.
J. M.
Great place for walking dogs (or children) with a pond where you can to see or feed the ducks, birds and swans. Always clear of rubbish too, which is nice. Handy on road parking just outside so is a nice little place to kill an hour or so with the kids.
K. H.
Love walking here with the dog
C. J.
Lovely walk and great to see the ducklings this time of year
S. M.
Lovely for daily dog walks.
C. “. G.
Beautiful any time of day, steeped in history and a great place to exercise the dogs and kids. Dog owners are very respectful, there's rarely any dog pooh to be found and there's always lots of nature to look at.
C. L.
Lovely park. Amazing open spaces and well looked after. Love coming here throughout the year and following it's many routes. Dropped a star only as we now come out as a family and the back woodland bit is very difficult to navigate with a pram (pick up and carry up steps) and the stones and roots all over the place are difficult to lift over or around as there are so many. (feel bad complain about that as it is nature! But meant that we didn't enjoy the walk as much and husband wanted to turn around and go back) could see some of the paths being repaired/replaced which would make it better so can't wait until they are all open and make it more user friendly.
T. R.
Lovely park, lots of nice trees. The children enjoyed feeding the ducks and walking around the lake. The downside was there is loads of dog mess and litter everywhere. This was probably not helped by the lack of bins on site.
t. h.
Nice relaxing walk. Lovely views.
j. m.
With other superb walks nearby you may ask what are you doing in Radford Park? It's busy so we're not the only ones. Lots of directions to choose from. Sometimes I cycle it today I took the wife and kids. For a short walk it's ideal and links up to other walks including the coast path and the Erme Plym Trail. Lots of trees and water for dogs and kids to splash about in.
B. V.
Beautiful autumn colours, and fruits on the trees in the arboritum , plenty of birds, blackbirds feeding, and ducks, herons and egrets on the lake, photographers paradise in the bay, with barge carcasses to snap at all times of the tide, popular local natural park. enjoy !! ( before it's gone !!! )
J. J.
Nice cycle paths and a lovely view of shipwrecks. The salt air also adds to the experience. A nice walk for anyone who wants to explore. Links up to Mount Batten point. Well signposted and the architecture on the nearby houses looks amazing. Will be coming back again. Just need to have Google add the cycle paths to their walking and cycling navigation.
K. S.
Very nice and peaceful place. Great walk although we did take 1 wrong turn and end up at some gates to a power plant not to far to walk to get to the correct path. Beautiful views and scenery around. All round good place.
M. E.
Nice circular walk around the lake, some lovely old buildings over by Beckley Centre side of the park dating back to 1640, nice peaceful walk with lots of skill and time invested in the woodland behind the waterworks.
A. B.
Very pleasant walk plenty of open spaces for dogs to run. A lot of seating spread throughout to take a rest and absorb the atmosphere and views
R. W.
Love this place, great walk in a great part of Plymouth
S. G.
I go to Radford Park most days with my dog. It's really beautiful with a tidal lake, swans, ducks and other birds. Woods to walk around, for children to explore jusþ lovely
E. Y.
I love walking my dog here and my little boy loves it too. Only reason not 5 stars is because sadly the water treatment works stink!! And I'm convinced that they are pumping poo and bad stuff into the lake where the ducks are located. The times I swam my dog in there, he was very very sick!!! Plus pipes run underneath, no wonder it's a no swimming zone
J. H.
Beautiful little locals park. Awesome paths, view, faux ruins, and castle.
E. S.
Lovely for a dog walk. Always well kept, someone does a good job.
Z. B.
Beautiful place for a relaxing walk beside the lake .
D. J.
Earliest Place I can remember visiting. Special place to me played here as a child remember when the lake was tidal and cows grazed in the Meadow. Great place to feed the ducks and locally know as the Duckponds.
T. Y.
Beautiful. So picturesque and tranquil. Love place to spend time walking and just taking some time to breathe. Lovely trees, just an all round amazing place.
L. P.

Nice green area, the lake is lovely but the walk around us a bit smelly TBH, not a bad place to walk on ya doorstep but wouldn't say it's worth a journey.
