I recently took the Film Processing and Experimental Printing courses at London Darkroom, both of which were wonderful. The tutors (Phil and Tara) are knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic, and the learning content delivered at just the right pace. The premises are in a lovely part of Camden, with lots of natural light (darkroom aside!) and space to move around, making it a great space to spend a few hours or a day. There's an amazing range of enlargers, and an eclectic mini-library of vintage analogue photography books and magazines. The induction was very helpful to work out where everything is and how to make prints, however there is always someone on hand to ask for help. I've already signed up for further sessions in the darkroom, and look forward to them :-)

I have done three courses at Darkroom London in the last few months on negative processing, printing and cyanotypes. What I love is the focus is very much on the practical element, giving those attending the chance to learn by doing themselves. The instructors (Phil and Dyveke) are incredibly knowledgeable and explain the stages/processes in a highly proficient and easy to digest manner. They clearly have a passion for what they do and it's wonderful to have this quality and diversity of courses in London. In this day and age, it's wonderful to learn an analog process away from laptop screens. You are also encouraged to become a member and avail of booking the Darkroom facilities - which are excellent and have everything you need (including the crucial coffee making facilities). Highly recommended!

Had a really interesting and rewarding time at the dark room taster session. Had no prior experience and Phil pitched it at the right level and was great at explaining and demonstrating the process. He was approachable and was happy to answer questions and help out when needed. Was really pleased with my prints and excited to go back!

I recently took part in an "Introduction To Darkroom Practice" workshop. I can really strongly recommend this place to anyone who's interested in developing and printing analog prints from black and white film negatives.
Verdi (our tutor for the sessions) was great - she was really patient and clear at explaining the whole process and introducing us to the great facilities they have at Darkroom London. We were given some good tips and on-going help with the prints we were working on and were provided with a handout we could take away for our own reference when making prints ourselves.
I really enjoyed the workshop sessions and was pleased with the prints I came home with. I'm already looking forward to booking a session again soon to develop some more of my prints. Thanks again Verdi and everyone involved in Darkroom London for such a great facility and helping keep analog photography alive!

So great to be back in the darkroom after months of lockdown! I’d highly recommend this place to anyone passionate about photography - they offer tons of classes and workshops, plus sessions where members can develop and print their own photos. The staff and teachers are all super helpful and knowledgeable. Whether you’re new to printing, you’re a pro, or you’re looking to learn experimental techniques, darkroom has something for everyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Introduction to Darkroom Practice and Black & White Printing course. The facilities are fantastic and Phil is a great teacher who is happy to work at your pace. After my one day course I feel confident to start working in a darkroom alone. I highly recommend this course for anyone who loves B&W film photography!

Definitely a great experience, and a great gift! We did the dark room workshop and we learned how to print photographs out of our own negatives. It was a great way to turn off your mind and escape the outside world for 3 and a half hours and just relax and learn something new. Recommended!

Darkroom Experience Course - This was my third course at The Darkroom and once again it was a delightful experience. The knowledgeable and friendly tutors always make it well worth it. The Darkroom is a well equipped place and one can't really ask for a better place to learn about/ work with photography. Highly recommended.

I had a really great experience at Darkroom learning how to use the space and process and print my own photos. Phil is very knowledgeable and I learned so much in just one day. Looking forward to doing more!

I've been out of the darkroom for a long time but Philip and Verdi made me feel at home. Over the course of a weekend I did the induction and a course in Experimental Photography both of which benefitted from small class size and a great deal of personal attention. I was able to recall old skills and make new ones and will be looking forward to using the facilities on a regular basis. I find the cost to be reasonable especially with membership at the higher levels which makes it more affordable the more you use the premises. The space is well planned and they've done their best to remove hassle and cater to the (necessarily quite individual) needs of darkroom enthusiasts. I'd recommend anyone unfamiliar with developing and processing to take a course and see where it leads.

I had a great time on the introduction to dark room beginners course yesterday. I am a working photographer but with a passion for film, one which i didnt get the chance to experience when i was younger. I searched high and low for a course in London and this one stood out as a really good one. From start to finish, Phil explained things really simply and i now have the confidence to go back and try this again, on my own but with the reassurance of knowing that an expert is on hand should i need it. Great facilities, plenty of them, and with us currently living in a pandemic, i can say that i felt safe and that all COVID guildlines were followed due to distancing and handling. We all need to ensure places like this stay, film is such an exciting thing and i am so glad we have such an amazing facility in London. Thankyou so much, i will definitly be joining. Nina
