I was thoroughly impressed with this course. I have been practicing and experimenting photography for a while, but I have found that despite my creativity - my technical ability needed some work. Originally I signed up for the advanced lighting course as I wanted to fully understand technically what kind of equipment created certain styles of lighting. Afterwards I signed up for the Advanced Photography Course, to get a fully rounded understanding of how to take my photography to the next level. The shots that we generated over the advanced lighting course were so professional I use them now in my portfolio. We covered a lot of ground and explored a variety of creative lighting scenarios - and commercial setups. The model that Ion had found was very professional as well, and it was incredibly useful to get some extra advice on how to collaborate effectively with subjects. Likewise in the Advanced Photography Course we covered an amazing amount of ground, and I really felt that coming out of both the workshops that I had so many of my questions answered. I noticed over the next couple of shoots that my technical ability and understanding had improved exponentially. All in all, I found Ion to be an incredibly personable and enthusiastic teacher, and I was impressed with the passion that he taught us with. I would thoroughly recommend The Photoion Photography School to anyone who is looking to really understand photography, or in the same position that I was in. The workshops themselves are fun, and the School itself is in a nice, convenient area in London. All I can say is - Thank you Ion!

Attended the Advanced photography course which takes place over two days. It was a small enough setting so the tutor was able to go over the way each of our cameras would work. Every single question was answered. The studio is right next to the station so it’s really easy to get to. Because we were smack in the middle of Waterloo, there were so many places to go to to practice what we were being taught. The tutor went over each picture we took, explaining what we were getting right and what could be improved. Will 100% recommend

finally committed to doing the beginners introduction course over 2 days, after having it on my to do list for some time. The location of the studio is near Waterloo station and next to the great great Graffiti tunnel at Leake street which we used for our second day session, shooting with a tripod (one for each student). I decided to enrol at Photoion Photography because first of the really positive experiences and reviews from previous attendees but also because they well the loan a camera during the two days. The studio followed covid procedures , reduced capacity because of social distancing and wearing of masks throughout the day. Great also to have access to coffee at the studio. I really enjoyed the course. I borrowed a canon camera , as I was a complete novice and only used my iphone to take photos. Ion who was the facilitator and also continues to work as a professional photographer was very patient , encouraging and also supportive all attendees. I did initially struggle ,but please don't be put off by this , as this is the apart of the process of learning something new and I was able to seek information and guidance from Ion. He also lent the camera for me to take home on the first day to practice and share our shots the next day. I felt more confident one the second day and we where loaned a tripod each during the last session of our second day to practice outside. I have a new respect for people that use a tripod because it can support you to do some many things. Plus as attendees we can join his Facebook group where Ion can continue to give us support and guidance and also share our photos. After the course he supported and sent information on which sites to get cameras , lens, bags and tripods, rather than us making mistakes and I buying overpriced equipment or purchasing cameras that do not meet our needs. The course covered the basics over the two days to understand the manual settings , composition , lighting etc. The Photoion Photography studio offers further courses and I will certainly be exploring these, once I have mastered my camera which I have ordered with guidance from Ion.

I’m so happy with my choice of school and highly recommend it to everyone! The school itself is really nice and cozy with amazing pictures everywhere and a secret pet which you will have to find 🙂 Ion is a great teacher - I really like his approach “to make difficult things simple”! After the beginners course I’m 100% sure what to do with my camera and how use it’s settings. Ion also showed us how we can create some magic with the camera and light! So cool. I have bought the long course at this school, I have a couple more steps of my education so I will update this review in due course. Between my courses I upload the pictures I make to the school Facebook group where Ian provides feedback every day - this is super useful!

Last week I've attended the portrait photography workshop at Photoion. Ion is a dedicated photographer and teacher, full of energy and passion for photography. The workshop made me see things that I couldn't see before, or I wouldn't pay attention to, the way he runs his courses is without doubt unique. I have done a few photography courses before Photoion, but since doing these I have actually seen a huge improvement in the photos I am taking! Ion is a great teacher, and not only teaches the theory of how the camera works and the technicals of taking the photo, but he also gets you thinking about what you need to consider before you even pick up the camera. In the early stages I relied heavily on my Lightroom and post-production ability.. now I find my photos straight out of the camera are stronger than the edited version! I've done the beginner and portrait workshops, and will do the advanced one shortly. As I'm taking photos now, I no longer point and shoot and hope I have the settings right.. I can hear myself asking the questions, what am I trying to capture, what do I need to do first... Couldn't recommend Photoion enough. Small classes, lots of active feedback and a great learning environment, plus the opportunity to post photos for feedback on the Facebook group so you keep learning.

I love this school! I started my Long term photography course in June and I had such a great experience! Tatiana and Ion are an amazing team, always there to teach and help you with everything! I went on the beginners’ photography course with absolutely no idea how to use my new camera; I left after day 2 feeling so much more confident having learned loads and experimented a lot too. The small group sizes made the classes more interactive and everyone was able to ask questions and feel comfortable to do so. Ive just completed the Begginer Course at Photoion Photography School and found it very enjoyable and informative way to start use my camera in manual mode.The course is relaxed and doesnt put student under pressure.Atmosphere was lovely and very friendly,all of us were from different background and age,but we felt very comfortable.Ion(the teacher)is very inspiring person and full of knowledge and energy to share.The support I received from Him during and after course was excellent,he was always there when I needed advice and the comments was very constractive and helpful.Negative points are explained in a manner that encourages student to experiment and produce a better image. I attended the two day Beginner’s Photography Course with Ion a couple of weeks ago. Ion is a really great teacher and explained everything in a really simple and easy to understand way, including how to use change the camera settings to achieve different photo effects and how to use the different camera modes. It was great to be able to practice the techniques used and take the camera I had borrowed home overnight between two days. It was also very convenient to be able to do the course at the weekend. Outstanding 2-day Beginners' Photography course in a very convenient Central London location by Waterloo Station, in a very stylish and comfortable studio but which doesn't cost Central London prices Ion is a born teacher, and simplifies all the jargon (a camera is just a box, and an aperture is just a hole), finding different ways to explain things so that everyone can understand - including me, and I'm severely dyslexic! He is extremely generous with his wealth of knowledge, and very positive and constructive in all his comments, so that confidence builds steadily through the experience. Above all, he makes students practice, practice, and practice until the movements and calculations become second nature. Another thing I really like about Ion is that he encourages a continuing relationship, sharing of images, and continues to give feed-back even after the course has ended. Worth every penny, this is a totally stimulating and inspiring course!

I took the 2 day beginners course during the week and it was so enlightening. I was an absolute beginner in photography, always using the auto function on my camera. Since i only owned a compact Ion let me borrow one of his DSLRs for the course. Ion is a natural teacher, fun, caring and offers great feedback on your photos. He made all the technical skills easy to understand and provided us with loads of opportunities to practice what we learnt. The course consists of 1 day in the studio, learning all the information you need to get started and then the next day out along the Southbank taking photos and practising the art. In between he asked us to go home and try out what we learnt at home and the next day, before going out, we went through what we took and he gave us feedback. Overall it was a fantastic couple of days. I went in to just learn more about photography and to be more comfortable with the camera. But learning so much and having such a good time while doing it, I definitely see this as something I will want to grow. Will be returning for an advanced course for sure.

I attended the beginners class recently. I knew very little before I went but I learnt so much in the two days. Ion is so enthusiastic and is a fantastic teacher and he made the course very enjoyable. The class was small and Ion was able to give everyone time individually to help with anything they weren't sure about. Totally hooked on this Photography School; you gotta love the guy who has such passion about teaching photography and interest in seeing his students develop. After the advanced 2 day course in October 17 I thought right don't stop there :) and recently went to Montenegro on one of their photography holidays where we had the most amazing time doing landscapes, lowlight, portraits and capturing the night sky all under his crazy enthusiasm for never missing a photographic opportunity and pushing you to get better and better. new motto :) Chasing light.....would never have captured those images 6 months ago. **Worth Every Penny!** I took Ion's two-day beginner's course last week - and it was excellent! Ion was an amazing teacher and extremely patient with our many questions! I was a complete novice before the course (despite taking photos on my iPhone!) and I learnt so much more than I ever thought was possible - all about shutter speed, ISO, aperture and most importantly, lighting. The course was COVID-friendly and we all had to wear masks the whole time. I can't recommend the course enough. I honestly can't put my camera down now and can't wait to advance to the next courses!

A fantastic 2 days spent on the Beginners course with Ion and 2 others at his fab studio in Waterloo. Lots to get through over the 2 days, but all explained simply and clearly. I did the 'Beginners’ Photography Course' with Ion at the weekend and had a brilliant time. The days are around 10am-4pm. On the Saturday we were in the studio all day learning the history and theory of photography. It's a lot to take in, but Ion has a great way of teaching and it was great to be able to put it into practice a little on the Saturday and even more so on the Sunday. I've started my journey with Photoion two years ago with the Beginner's workshop because I wanted to get a better understanding of my camera to take better pictures. Classes and workshops are small, well structured and offer a great deal of information, techniques, and insight into photography. They teach with a hands-on approach and you get to put the theory into practice throughout the courses and workshops pretty much immediately. Photography to inspire, empower and dream I attended the Beginners Course last weekend and I absolutely loved it. I have never attended a photography class before, and it was something I was thinking to do for a while now. I am very happy I chose Photoion School and feel lucky I met Ion as my teacher. I booked a beginner's course to photography with Photoion, as it was one of the best photography schools in the City to offer a wide selection of weekend classes. I wasn't sure what to expect from the course, and so went in with an open mind. I left the 2-day course feeling as though I had achieved so much, and with a real desire to put my new skills to practice. The main reason that I left with such a positive impression was because of Ion. He is a fantastic teacher, and his enthusiasm for photography is infectious. I really benefited from the fact that the class size was small, which meant that Ion could dedicate his attention to a smaller number of people. What's more is that the course doesn't finish as you leave the door. We were all encouraged to keep sharing our photos with Ion, so that he can provide feedback so that we could continue with our own development. As a bonus, the photography school is a stone's throw away from Waterloo station, so is easily accessible. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who is either completely new to photography, or has an understanding of the basics and wants to harness new skills to progress even further. I took the 2 day beginners course. I absolutely loved it and has exceeded my expectations completely. I had researched a lot of courses in London so was nervous that this would be the right one. Ion, our tutor has years of experience and broke down the functionality of using your camera manually perfectly which is exactly what I needed. Doing the course over two days meant that I could really get my head round the different parameters that make up the settings that you need to take your shot as it can take a bit to suss it out. Ion was very patient but tenacious in helping each student to fully grasp the use of their camera. We also did outdoor practice is an amazing graffiti alley which was really cool. I’ve just completed the 2 day beginners course which was fantastic and surpassed my expectations. Ion is a great tutor - extremely knowledgable, professional and fun, and breaks down complex subject matter so that it is easily and quickly understandable. My husband booked the beginners course for my birthday. It was the best birthday present I’ve ever had! Ion was a great teacher and has a great way of teaching. Everything was relevant and interesting. The 2 day course was a mix of theory and practice, a perfect balance. Please note you do not need to own a camera as Ion has cameras you can use. The studio is incredibly professional as are the facilities. It has a gorgeous, clean look and feel which added to the amazing experience that I had. I have now attended 3 courses with Ion. The food photography workshop, the portrait and the studio lighting workshop. Ion is an excellent teacher. He is passionate about teaching his students and enthusiastic for people to learn. I have taught myself photography over a few years and Ion is brilliant at breaking down and making simple what can sometimes be complicated and overwhelming. I highly recommend this excellent photography course! I've booked a beginners photography course in preparation for an upcoming holiday. After trying for years (unsuccessfully) to master my camera on my own, trying various one day courses and even giving online courses a try I stumbled over Ion's course. The two day workshop was packed with basic knowledge on the first day, followed by a practice day. Ion always showed examples for every information and made sure we understood the reason behind different settings. What a great course. I had my camera for over 5 years and only ever used the automatic setting. To be honest I didn’t even know what most of the setting actually did. Now after the great support and explanation I understand how to use the camera, the different setting, how the light effects the picture and I enjoy taking photos which is the most important part for me. When I decided to seriously study photography rather than simply rely on the wizardry of the I-phone, I hoped the right location and people might ignite a passion. I found this inspiration and encouragement at the Photography for beginners 2 day course. Our instructor and the owner, Ion Paciu, began day one with several philosophical assertions revealing he had spent a great deal of time reflecting on his art. “Photography is done in the camera. The photograph is a story you want to share with people.” And perhaps the most reassuring of all, “You don’t need an expensive camera. The quality is in the light not the camera. We are painting with light.” These declarations instilled confidence. We had a master of his art with something to share beyond button-pushing on the camera. The buttons change but wisdom does not. We covered the basics of camera operation, photograph composition, and how to purchase great equipment on a budget. Our group particularly enjoyed capturing neighborhood murals in low light with tripods. Over the weekend I made new friends and joined a larger social media community organized by Ion. The workshop improved my skills but more importantly ignited a passion where before there was only a curiosity. Please do yourself - and those with whom you share your photography- a favor and invest in this workshop!

Last week I attended the Advanced Photoshop workshop online. It was very helpful. Unlike many other courses face to face or on line Photoion is only interested in helping you take the best possible photographs or in this case the best from your photographs. The tutor, logically went through all the methods of improving/finishing your photos, using the tools available in Photoshop. What was particularly good was that we did not waste time exploring all the tools, but kept to the critical points of improving the photos without exploring all the Adobe has put on the desktop. Better photographs fast. Highly recommended. And you get a series of videos covering all the topics of the workshop to download, just in case you forget anything.

I went on the Advanced Photography Course in February 2016 in order to improve my photography knowledge and skills. I had just bought my first full frame camera and wanted to put it to good use. I was also looking for a community to join where I could share my photos and interests with like-minded individuals. Read the reviews before I booked the 1 day Natural Light Portrait Workshop and thought “Wow” - this is impressive - and I have not been disappointed. Zion is a revelation. If I had had teachers like him when I was at school I cannot begin to imagine where I might have ended up. We started with one flash on camera and by the end of the day we had four flashlights on stands and were using coloured filters and light modifiers to create effects. Ion tested our learning through the day, without making us feel on the spot. It was fast paced and great fun, with lots of laughter. I loved it and fully intend to book another of Ion's courses.

I went to Ion and his studio for a 1 day studio lighting session. The venue itself is very close to Waterloo station and has a good selection of backgrounds, props, studio lights and lighting modifiers. Ion started with the basics, introduces you to the equipment you will use and how it works. Then he goes through some practical examples of common lighting setups (1 light, 2 side lights, Rembrandt lighting) and all the requirements on how to use his lights. Then, using yourself and himself as models, he makes sure you can get the basics of the lighting correct. Then, later in the session we had a professional model in for a few hours to practice what we had learned, to experiment and to ask questions. Ion's style is friendly but opininated and he is excellent at explaining the more creative sides of photography. I came out of the session with a significantly better grasp on the more artistic elements of lighting as well as having had my hands on proper studio strobes for the first time. You certainly need to understand your camera and how it works before attending this specific course, but he has other courses for those that need to learn this. If you feel you have a strong grasp on the technical aspects of photography, but need help with the creative aspects of lighting or have never been in a real studio before, this course would be good for you. Ion continues to provide feedback even after the session. You can upload photos to his students Facebook group for feedback, and he is responsive on Facebook to questions even after the course is over.

As a nascent photographer, I read several books on the principles of photography, but soon realised that I would better benefit from practical experience, specifically so I wouldn't teach myself bad habits and unsound principles. I recently attended a one-day workshop on studio lighting. Ion was clearly passionate about his work and a superb tutor. He immediately made everyone feel comfortable and clearly talked us through equipment and techniques. Before I signed up for the workshop I was a bit apprehensive that it may be orientated for a semi-commercial audience – but it was not. There was a good mix of people within the small group and the workshop was applicable to both hobbyists like myself as well as those to whom photography was more a profession. I was very glad I went and look forward to attending more workshops in different areas. Ion’s advice was invaluable and doesn’t end at the workshop itself as he offers continued support via Facebook, encouraging participants to upload their subsequent photographs so that he can give feedback to help them to continue to develop their skills.

I signed up for the 2-day Beginner course not knowing what to expect, and a little skeptical about how much I would be able to learn in just 2 days. To my utter delight, the course was so well designed that I felt my 'eye' and my photography improved right away! The classroom portion was very interactive, conversational and lively - we students were able to have a running dialogue with Ion, which made it easier to absorb the wealth of information offered. And the location part of the class was fantastic - out and about in the streets of London, shooting and getting real-time feedback and tips from Ion. I left the class so energized and excited about pursuing photography as a passion, that I promptly enrolled in the Portrait class the next day! (Which was also great). I love that as a student you can post any photo on the Photoion Facebook page and Ion himself will give you prompt feedback. Most teachers won't take the time to do that for you once the class has ended, so it speaks to Ion's passion for teaching and photography that he takes the time to do that for his students. Has a two day beginners workshop with Ion. Before the classes I was sent a pfd of slides to read to familiarise myself with the course. The class is small and intimate so we got plenty of time to ask Ion questions. Ion is quite the character and it is very clear how passionate he is to teach everything he knows. The first day was theory and we got to test out the basic features of our cameras. The second day we went out and took our own photos. Ion got us to practice everything we learn on the previous day. It was lots of fun and I really enjoyed trying out different effects. If there was an interesting shot we wanted to work on Ion would make sure we learnt it like a pro. One point I wish to make is that I wish we explored a variety of settings but I guess we were short on time. I enjoyed the experience of working with other like-minded people with the same passion for photography.

We did the 2day beginners workshop and absolutely loved it. I’ve been interested in photography for a while and always enjoyed taking photographs but wanted to gain a better understanding of my camera and some of the more technical aspects of photography. I did not know anything about photography and in just 2 days Ion managed to explain the basics and give us all the tool to make very good photograph. He managed to explains in a very clear way the importance of aperture, ISO, shutter speed but also, and I thought that was the most important, how to THINK about the picture you're going to take. So in the end of the 2 days, we could adjust parameters all by ourselves depending on what we wanted to do or what we did not like in our previous photograph but we could also think about what to put on our picture, where, why. I was really impressed by this because it's not often that artists can show you how to get "creative by yourself". I have taken the macro workshop and two-day advanced course. Very unusually for me, I wrote my own notes on the way home following the course and, a first, have actually read them as well. I gained a lot from the courses, and want to internalise so that it becomes an instinctive way of working. I have taken the camera out three times since the course and have noticed a step change improvement. I am more actively concentrating on making the photograph before I pick up the camera: thinking through the composition, the light, perspective and how best to set the camera and lens to capture the image I can see in my mind's eye. Now much clearer to me why things have worked, and why things have not worked well or worked as intended. Ion, who ran both courses, is very, very good at what he does, and is able to communicate the passion he has for photography, and to guide people to making photographs. 100% Learning through practice. Great human experience. Hi there! I attended an outdoor speed light photography workshop with Ion in April 2015. I was then about to graduate from the University of Applied Photography in Amsterdam and was (and still am) looking to discover new angles to approach photography, new techniques and methods. In addition to all this I discovered a great personality: Ion’s teaching style is extremely pleasant and he has a great sense of humour! After thorough theoretical introduction in a very informal and friendly atmosphere, together with two fellow students and a stunning model we jumped right into practice in the streets of London. Thanks to Ion’s step-by-step guidance the application of the learned theory was a very pleasant and exciting experience. I have learned a lot on the ways to use off-camera speed lights outdoors. From Ion I learned there is no need for expensive equipment and sophisticated light modifiers to achieve great results. In addition to the main content of the workshop I learned a lot of smaller tips and tricks that I use in my daily photography practice. But the experience has not stopped there: Ion continues to provide advice and valuable feedback online to all his former students. I would also like to mention a very informative monthly newsletter. At last I understand the numbers and symbols at the bottom of my camera screen - and that these, the light and the focus are the only things that are important to get a great photo. Day 1 of theory work was really informative, covering all of the important stuff needed to take great photos, but not so much that it was overwhelming. All those skills were put into practice on Day 2, as we wandered the Southbank taking photos of bikes, buildings and each other. My photographs look ten times better than the did before the course, and I owe everything to the 2 days I spent on this course with a fantastic teacher. I have been taking pictures for many years mainly in motorsport car racing as my family race all over the UK, I reached a point where I wanted more (being an adventurous person, so I thought!). I recently took the Advanced Photography course (2 days) and found it excellent. Ion is a great tutor and full of enthusiasm for the topic he's teaching, his style is quite informal and the instruction is done along the lines of conversations with hands on demonstrations for each aspect rather than bombarding you with facts and figures in a classroom. The 2nd day was spent in the field and again Ion's love of the subject comes through as he gets stuck into the assignments as much as his students do. Having done the two days Beginners Course a week ago was a real revelation! I was under the impression that using my camera on 'auto' gave very good results and I did not see the necessity to know or learn how to use any other setting. What an amazing experience I have already had with Photoion Photography School! I just wish that I found the school two years ago when I first thought about learning photography. I tried a couple of short courses in London that ran for a maximum of two hours each session and what a waste! Never again – the second time I went was my last! I was after one that would dedicate reasonable hours to purely teaching in-depth photography over one/two days each where balance is kept between teaching theory and practically applying them in real-time (who would want to stay in a classroom all the time anyway). I took the Beginner Photography class with Photoion and thought it was amazing. I'm an avid photographer and enjoy taking photos with my iPhone and was looking to take my photos to the next level by honing my skills and learning how to use a DSLR camera. Over two full days, Ion taught a small group of us how to operate our DSLRs, taught us vocabulary, taught us theory, gave us plenty of advice about buying our own equipment and even lent us his equipment to use not just during the class but also overnight so we could practice some of the techniques we learned throughout the weekend class. I'd often thought about taking a course but was aware that I'd already spent quite a lot on gear and had several other purchases on my wish list. Fortunately my wife went ahead and bought me a day course with Ion for Christmas and it is one of the best presents I have ever received. There are so many free resources available on the internet that you might wonder why you would need to pay money for a course. Why not save that money and invest it in gear? Well, Ion taught me through practical application, a deeper understanding of the nuances of light that I could not have learnt through the one way window of my computer screen. He has also inspired me to improve my technique with the gear I already have. It is also incredibly informative to see how a professional photographer interacts with a model and inspires confidence. He teaches how to use settings that give power but also speed so you can concentrate on getting the shot. I am writing this review a year after taking the course. One of the great boons of Photoion is that once you have taken a course, you are invited to join the facebook community. Ion is always available to give advice and feedback on shots you upload and I was inspired to write this review after a recent interaction with him and other members of the facebook group. It really has been a gift that keeps on giving. Where should I begin? I am very happy and lucky to find this school. (I have enrolled 2 years ago at an online course for beginners with the British Academy of Photography (I recommend you not to do online courses) and I did not learn anything :( After 2 years I did not know how to use the camera.) I took the 2 day Beginners Photography course (which had been recommended to me), hoping to understand a Digital SLR before buying one. A DSLR was provided for the whole course (you need to request this when booking), which was fantastic and Ion took a small group (only 3 of us on the day, but never more than 8) from the very basics upwards, and focussing on a relatively small number of key settings and composition advice to get fabulous pictures, way beyond any automatic settings. Day 1 is all in the "classroom", whilst Day 2 is all out and about (in this case along and around the South Bank) and we covered many aspects from normal daylight photos to panning, zooming, special effects and low light shots. Ion is very enthusiastic and passionate about photography and it shows. He gives you advice every step of the way to improve your work as you go. It's well worth doing and inspired me to buy an entry level DSLR. The follow up is also superb - Ion is always available online to advise generally and review/advise on any photographs you wish to upload after the course. Highly recommended!

Dramatically improved photographs. You won’t regret it. There is no way I would have come as far as I have with my photography if it wasn’t for the Photoion Photography School. I have attended the speedlite course, natural light portrait course, the advance course and the studio lighting course. There are many digital photography courses in London and as a part-time summer vacation student, it is often difficult to select a good course and time. I am very fortunate to have chosen Photoion for a beginner's course as not only is it led by a highly experienced and enthusiastic photographer (who has already produced a superb portfolio of work), the course is short (2 days long) and combines strong theory with practical elements. I greatly enjoyed learning the features of my Nikon D90 DSLR and Photoion was happy to take any questions I had. The last day was spent photographing sites around London, putting the knowledge we had into practice. I now understand the 'magic' triangle of Aperture / Shutter / Speed and how to combine these settings depending on the subject / conditions. Ion had various exercise to engage the brain of the attendees and ensure they all understood the various settings and options of a camera. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn more about photography.

Review of Advanced Course Course is held at a great location in central London and a really nice modern set up - not some grimey loft. Near to Waterloo so easily accessible. Ion is an extremely passionate teacher, class sizes are really small (I think a max of 8 but only 4 in my class) which meant plenty of opportunity to liaise with the teacher, Ion (did I mention he’s passionate about photography!) So a bit of context,In terms of me, I have been into photography for over 10 years and have had a number of DLSRs, currently using 5D iv and 7D ii, with a variety of lenses and pretty much always shoot in manual, so was interested to see what a course badged as advanced would be like. There was a range of abilities and experience from beginner to intermediate but Ion had time for everyone and everyone benefitted from the course. Course is split into 2 days, first day is primarily class room based with Ion demonstrating examples with the second day being practical out and about on the southbank and surrounding location. What did I learn? A few handy hints and tips for abstract photography a lot of focus on light and lighting and different ways to use it which was very useful as well as session on flash off and on camera and using remote triggers and certain of the manual settings on the external flash. Session on filters and long exposure photography in daylight was also useful. A few worthwhile hints on composition too. Overall I’d say 4.5/5 worth doing and I’ll definitely book on to some of the more specialist courses. One of the highlights is the detailed handout of techniques and matters covered on the course which is an extremely useful referral tool. What could be better perhaps a specific sessions on portraits or possibly street or holiday photography but there’s only so much you can fit into a couple of days and different members of the group can have different priorities. I actually had the sense that Ion was trying to incorporate these into the course but unfortunately ran out of time perhaps where a group is of more similar ability they’d have get to this stage as Ion has asked us all about particular areas we were interested in. That said I could have had a bigger group with more diverse interests so it’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Is the course for me? If you’ve had a DLSR for at least a year more than one lens and tend not to shoot in automatic, generally have the lens cap off and camera switched on as you walk around and the idea of spending two days on photography doesn’t cause your eyes to roll then yes definitely get booked on.

Prior to the course I was only interested in photography purely for work reasons. Finding out how to use the camera settings and all the different things you can do just by adapting simple things was a revelation. Within 2 day Course, Ion, our experienced and inspirational teacher, managed to explain to me all the basics of the DSLR camera settings and what I was doing wrong, why my pictures would not always come out they way I had hoped. I went on the beginners course as a complete notice only ever shooting in "auto mode", wanting to be able to use more of the functionality of the Nikon D80. The course is the perfect balance of theory (day 1) and practice (day 2). The teaching style is relaxed but very very enthusiastic and helpful. You do not get overloaded - just the key basic ingredients and then it is out into the real world to put the theory into practice. I can not recommend this course highly enough. If you really want to learn about your camera and how to compose good images this is one for you. Great atmosphere and passion for the subject. I attended my first Photoion course on the 2 days beginners class so that I can get a basic understanding of photography. The course structure is split into a day of theory in a small class followed by a day out on the street putting what we learnt into action. It was the best 2 days I've had. The course was not only informative, the course trainer was very enthusiastic about all things photography and it rubs off on you. After the course you are encouraged to upload your photos on Photoion Facebook page and Photoion will provide constructive criticism. In addition the FB page also has a community of current/past students who are constantly uploading their photos for feedback and you get to see the post and learn from it as well. The feedback process and the online community is one of the best perk of being a student with Photoion. I have since taken a few more classes with Photoion: night photography, food photography and the advance class. Each time I learnt so much and there are still more to learn. I will definitely be back more classes with Photoion. I would highly recommend Photoion to anyone. Also it helps that the course is held 5 mins away from London Waterloo station and the course venue has a view to die for.

I took the advanced photography course in June. It was a very valuable course for me. I really felt that I came away a more accomplished photographer and much more confident using the manual settings on my DSLR. Guilia, the tutor, was very patient and nothing was too much trouble. There was a very good mix of classroom work and then putting it in to practice. I received a good set of notes and these meant that I was able to refer to them weeks later to jog my memory about soemthing. I've continued to use what I have learnt and I think I am a much improved photographer since June. The follow up is good to via postings on Facebook with feedback from Ion that also helps me to develop further. And maybe even more importantly I really enjoyed the course.

I attended the Beginner's two-day course as a birthday present from my parents and it vastly exceeded my expectations. Although these courses are more expensive compared to others, they are absolutely worth the money. I was lucky enough to only have one other person on the course with me, so we both got really detailed tuition from Chris, who knew the answers to anything and everything we asked him. No question was too stupid and we got to practise panning, subject tracking, aperture priority, shutter speeds and more on the second day out and about in London. I currently have a bridge camera and got so so much out of the course, so you don't need to have a top of the range DSLR at all. I learnt about buttons and functions which I'd never even used on my camera! I really want to attend the advanced and wildlife courses in 2018, but will probably need to upgrade to an SLR for those! Honestly I cannot recommend this course enough. A great present for someone or a cool gift to yourself :)

Being always interested in photography i decided to take some courses to improve my camera skills. So in October 2014 after a bit of Interweb searching and gut feeling i went with a place called 'Photoion Photography School' in the Waterloo area and booked the Portrait Photography Saturday Workshop. Booking was easy with varied ways to pay, so no problems with this part of the process. As always with these things there is apprehension of what to expect but i needn't have worried, Ion Paciu our tutor for the day was a friendly and engaging person right from the start. It was a great day and superb lesson set entirely outdoors with a friendly small group of like-minded photography enthusiasts, I felt so at ease, and our model for the day was lovely too. I can't praise our tutor enough as he was so enthusiastic, encouraging, straight to the point, knowledgeable and keen to help - there may be other superlatives i could use but you get the drift. At the end of the day when he asked us if we'd like to go on the Studio Photography Workshop the following day - and with the same model! - how could i refuse?? [I didn't refuse by-the-way and it was as fun and informative as the Portrait Workshop :-) ] It was money and time very well spent - no mistake. If you're thinking about attending one of the lessons at Photoion i'd have to say 'give it a go' as i believe you won't regret it.

I’ve taken plenty of random workshops along the years, few of which added much to me especially in photography; thus, I’m always in search of affordable ones that actually teach you something, and this one was it! I took an advanced photography class with Ion Paciu, who was passionate and patient and well paced and everything you’d ask for. The theoretical part was in-depth, yet to the point, and the notes provided were very well organized so that you can follow and come back to, yet the practical day was a whole new thing.. I thought I was confused until actually holding the camera and realizing that this was the most adequate and valuable tutoring I’ve had for quite some time, specifically since I arrogantly thought there wasn’t much to add to me in a general photography course. London has plenty of well known schools, and I’ve been to one of them, paid a fortune and seriously remember no added value at all. However, after reading some reviews and checking out the various topics, I thought to give this a try, and now I can’t wait to save up and take food photography and studio lighting on my next trip to London. I give top marks for the tutor and model. It was a really inspiring and enjoyable day doing the speedlite workshop. Everyone was really fun to be around and non-judgemental. I am totally new to using speedlites so I learnt a lot of very useful techniques about where to place the lights and how to incorporate numerous lights for different looks. I do feel, however, that coming away from the workshop, I still do not really know how to operate the speedlites by myself. The tutor set everything up for us on tripods outdoors, so I didn't get to try out or learn how to use the flash settings on my own camera before progressing onto the more advanced stuff. I feel this workshop may be more suitable for those who already know how to operate a flashgun, unlike myself who had never even picked one up before. I still rate it top marks and would highly recommend it to others, but I think it would be nice if there was a total beginners speedlite course going back to basics and being taught more on in-depth things like "what does 1st / 2nd curtain flash mean?", or "when to use highspeed sync?", as well as other functions. I think if I were taught how to the flash on my own camera and being more in control, then I would get to grips with it much quicker. I want to thank Photoion for a wonderful day and I am sure I will do other workshops in the future.

Ion gives time to all of his students and is very enthusiastic in his teaching, this is clearly a good course for anyone that wants to improve their photography because he takes the time to listen to his students offer critic and keeps things fun at the same time, as it should be, learning is exciting and this course was full of energy and information, not to mention the feedback you receive afterwards, the size of the classes are intimate which gives you an advantage when learning so it insures you have the attention to detail needed to improve any questions about your camera or photographs. My wife and I went for a day course to learn about the six most essential elements of photography last saturday. Not only was the content really good and we learnt loads, the delivery was also great and thought out with a mix of theory on slides via iPad over a coffee or lunch at a local shop and a lot of practice. Southbank is a brilliant spot for this and cleverly chosen. Lastly, Denise was really lovely and made the whole experience a great one. I’m so glad I did. Hello and welcome to my review of Photoion photography course which i did in october. the course was split over 2 days and the first day we spent going throught various camera setups and a in depth understanding of the many modes which most cameras have , i really found interesting how a photo can be taken between mins and be so different based on the outdoor conditions , the use of speedlights and shutter speeds iso setttings which i really needed to know as im a photographer for the british library and photograph many books and scolls. the second day was really fun going outside in the rain and just getting on with it at random , learning how to use our cameras and taking radom shots within the group , i was amazed with just my sinple camera what images i got , we did a great group shot which is on this website and that ill always remember!!! A great course which inspired me to buy a flash speedlight and a new nikon camera , im taking better photos now!!! all the best to everyone who was there that day ill wont forget you guys!!!!

To be honest,I was bit Sceptical before taking up a workshop from Photoion on how it would be, but the atmosphere made me very welcoming, with very limited members in each classroom and the way Ion interacts with us is totally different, Ion is passionate and friendly instructor and makes you feel there is no right or wrong question and you can always clear any doubts in your mind and Ion will provide you with the best answer and the way it is taught is very nice, we are given a plenty of time both Indoors and Outdoors while the workshop to execute a particular task which enhances our thoughts and creativity. Honestly best thing to say I have been touch with Ion quite a few times after my workshop and he is always welcoming ,on an instance I made an unscheduled visit to this institute to get some support on Speedlite while Ion was very busy packing his stuff for some class and still Ion clarified my doubts in such a short time and went ahead with his work later, Student always comes first for Ion and I could get my doubts clarified and support after courses is always available and another best part is Photoion conducts competitions which keeps you very engaged and you feel like there is always something new to learn and I would attend few more Workshops and Courses in future definitely.

"I did the beginners course weekend of the 19th/20th November. I had been looking for an in-depth course in order to make the most of my DSLR and could only ever find either short 2-hour courses advertised which I felt would be too short and superficial or weekly courses which are hard for me to stick to because of my work schedule. I was in London for a few weeks and this suited me perfectly. Ion is infectious in his enthusiasm and incredibly patient with all questions. His photography inspires a newbie like myself. I learnt all the basics I needed and am more inspired than ever to improve and practise. I even moved my flight to Dublin by 2 days so that I could attend the night photography course the following Thursday which gave me a an excellent basis for this skill. I have lots to learn and I cant wait! Ive even started noticing light changes during the day and whipped out my camera today for a sunset shot. Highly recommend.
