We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience shooting professional portraits with Keith; as he kept us at ease and encouraged us to express a range of positive emotions and poses.
We loved so many photos, it was difficult selecting our favourites. Thank you and highly recommended.

Keith took photographs of a VIP event in the Department of Biochemistry, photos are being used on our website and also on the Lister Institute website and social media. The photos were perfect, exactly what we wanted, they captured the event perfectly. Keith was so accommodating to our requirements and nothing was too much trouble. I would use his services again with no hesitation and would recommend him 100%

We were really pleased with the incredibly professional but friendly service that Keith provided for a family shoot at our sons Oxford college prior to his graduation ceremony. Organisation and communication prior to and at the the photo session were superb, and the photos we received by the next working day were of an excellent quality. Keith accommodated all of our requirements whilst bringing his own creative ideas and we would highly recommend him!

Keith has been our festival photographer twice now, and both times we've been very happy with the results. He manages to capture the atmosphere of the event, as well as being very good at photographing those happy little interactions between attendees - the smiles, the laughter etc. He's also just a nice friendly person, and very easy to work with. Would definitely recommend him.

Keith is an amazing, enthusiastic photographer, who delivers excellent work. Not only he is an experienced professional, but also a pleasant and friendly person to work with.
We have worked with Keith for our new store opening in Westgate shopping centre and we loved the images he shot, whether it was product related, interior related or general event theme. And the professional images he shot, has great feedback on our social media pages, newsletters and general digital presence of our brand.
Looking forward to work with Keith for upcoming projects.

Fantastic ! I worked with Keith on some portrait shots for both business use and use within a more informal setting. The shoot was perfect he fully understood the brief, made me feel immediately relaxed, gave me tips on how to stand, hold my hands etc, knew the best locations in town, and the shots (which I got the next day) are perfect. Thank you Keith this was much more enjoyable than I was expecting and the shots are excellent and most professional. I look forward to working with you again.

I attended Keith's one day introduction to using an SLR. I thought the course was excellent. We went through all the basics at a good pace and had an opportunity to put some of the lessons into practice. Keith also covered some basic principles of photography that i hope to put into practice. I am confident that Keith has provided the break through that I needed. Keith also provided a very clear summary of the sessions and follow up links to relevant blogs etc. The session exceeded my expectations

I needed some photographs for a book jacket and for my website. Keith produced some excellent high-quality images from a session in his studio and on location in the centre of Oxford. I am highly delighted with the results. I was somewhat anxious about being in front of the camera but i actually rather enjoyed it. It’s because Keith is so patient and calm. He’s a true professional and certainly knows how to get the best out of people. Many thanks again.

Have just finished the 4 week beginners course. Fantastic informative course. Keith put the course across great. Feel a lot more confident with my camera and a much better understanding of how settings can make a difference. Looking forward to putting it all into practice. Highly recommend this course ticks all the boxes. Many Thanks Keith and look forward to doing one of your other courses in the near future

I have just completed a 2 hour 1-2-1 session with Keith where he helped me to understand the potential of my DSLR camera. I have no hesitation in recommending Keith to anyone who wants to extend their understanding of photography. His technical expertise and clear explanations helped me to understand what my camera can do and by his well-thought out use of wonderful photographs (many taken by himself) he has inspired me to have a go at taking lots of different types of photos I would never have dared to before. Two hours very well spent from my point of view. Thank you!
R. S.
Keith was fantastic. I had a one to one training session. I am reasonably experienced at photographer however I wanted to take my pictures to the next level. I learnt so much in our session. He gave his all during our session and I benefited from his passion and experience. I have been inspired and energised now to implement all of the things that I have learnt. It has already had a huge impact on the quality of my photos and has given me a clear direction of how to continue to improve and the many aspects I need to consider. I would highly recommend anyone wishing to develop their skills. Thank you Keith.

Just finished the Beginers course with Keith and feel more confident and positive about taking photos from now on. There was a range of cameras that people brought over the four weeks and his knowledge about all of them was excellent. The pace of the course, with optional assignments, was perfect; and what really works for me is the examples that were readily available to complement the tips & advice he gave us.
In four weeks I appreciate we could not cover everything, but came away with a greater knowledge that will be put into everyday practice.

I recently finished the DSLR course with Keith, spread over 4 weeks, in 2 hour sessions. It is a very informative and concise course. I arrived on day 1 with a new camera, that I was very uncertain of how best to use and have come away feeling confident of the settings, and look forward to putting my new knowledge to the test. My class was a group of 9-10people, which was a perfect size. The classes are structured around slide show presentations, detailing the different settings on our cameras, as well as having our camera’s to hand to explore the settings as we progress through the lesson. A pdf information pack is available to print at the start of the course, as well as a weekly email from Keith providing useful websites for further information following each class. A brilliant course that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully informative day at the Understanding your DSLR course; Keith is a great teacher, giving a lot of detailed information and advice in a clear, concise and memorable way, and more than happy to answer all our questions. The practical sessions outside were a valuable opportunity to try out the theory we had just learned. I now feel much more confident about using the key controls on my camera, choosing the settings and trying out new techniques. Definitely a day very well spent with my camera!
J. P.
For a non techy person with a brand new camera the course was perfect and great fun. Keith has oodles of patience and to cap it all not only is he an amazing photography he inspires confidence in us mere mortals! Can't wait to go on the next course, so had better go off and practice..

I signed up for the 4 week Lightroom course with Keith and it was a great investment! If you want to take your photos to the next level and want to understand how to use Lightroom, this is the course for you. Keith breaks down every module into sections and makes it very easy for one to understand. He also provides you with lots of resources that you can reference to when you need it. Highly recommend this course.

I have just completed the four week DSLR course with Keith. My new camera is not strictly in the DSLR category, having purchased the Sony A6000. I wanted to get to know the camera well and this I certainly achieved from the course. Keith teaches in a very clear manner, answering questions with great patience. Tutorials are sent out following each week of the course. Now it is time to practice all I have been taught. Many thanks to Keith.
D. A.
I contacted Keith for some portrait photos that I needed. I got a reply in an hour and an appointment within the next few days. He was extremely helpful during the shooting directing me on how to sit and look at the camera. In the end I had a very difficult time choosing the photos I liked, they were all excellent! So thanks Keith for that unique experience.
M. Y.
I never particularly wanted to do Portrait Photography, until my wife bought me a 4 week course as a Christmas present. I thoroughly enjoyed every session, and found the course to be both engaging and comprehensive. Thank you Keith, you're a great tutor, and you inspired me beyond my expectations.
K. B.
We hired Keith to take photos of some of our college activities, and were really pleased with the results. Keith managed to capture the energy of our students, and also had to work in some challenging lighting conditions. We are delighted with the photos and Keith was a pleasure to work with throughout.
H. D.
I visit Keith to take my passport photos now because I have to live with that image a long time and I want it to be good. Recently I had some larger photos taken of myself and I’m delighted with them. Keith captured the look I wanted brilliantly and I would highly recommend him. His photos are excellent value for money.
R. T.
I recently did the Portrait Photography Course. The course was well structured, I found the homework assingment after each week very helpful it gave me an opportunity to go over the points from the class at my own pace. Over the four evenings Keith gave simple tips to improve your photography which I'm using already. Overall I would say this was an great experience and can recommend Keith as an excellent teacher.
H. C.
Received my camera as a gift and needed someone to help me understand it, and show me how I can use it to best effect. Keith's course did just that and more - he got us thinking about photography more broadly and I came away both inspired and more confident using my DSLR camera. Definitely worth the time, money and effort.
D. P.
Keith is a fantastic photographer and has worked with our organisation (a College within the University of Oxford) for many years. He is very easy to work with, knows exactly how to approach and snap a wide variety of stakeholders, and is prompt in delivering the finished photographs.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
S. S.
Attended the Photo Composition course, which has really opened my eyes to composing better pictures. Keith is a very good instructor, helping understand how to compose better pictures using depth, props, light, lines, as well as introducing numerous photographers, whose pictures demonstrate this. I would recommend this course, and am already planning which one I can attend next.
M. E.
I took the course on Understanding your DSLR Camera. Keith is a very knowledgeable and experienced instructor and makes learning photography fun. My photos have already improved. I highly recommend the course!
K. C.
We hired Photographers Workshop for the first time for an formal black tie Oxford college dinner. Keith did a great job capturing the mood, environment and subjects for our needs. We received the photos promptly as requested and look forward to working with Keith again in the near future.
R. L.
Just completed the 1 day DSLR workshop and I'm really glad I did it. I finally know what all the different buttons do and can start trying to get the photos I want! Keith was a great teacher, really patient but also kept the class moving along so we covered lots during the day and had some useful practical sessions. Thanks!
A. D.
We asked Keith to take photos of our Law students during their residential week in Oxford, many great photos were captured. Can't wait to start using them in our marketing prospectus. High professionalism! Would definitely recommend.
I. S.
Keith has been a pleasure to work with, we needed project photos and Keith worked with the marketing team very closely to identify the exact needs and the style of photos we needed. He also sent examples of work which was very helpful. Would gladly work with him again on future projects, and happily recommend him!
D. J.
I have done two courses with Keith - one introducing Lightroom and the second, Composition in Photography, I have no hesitation in recommending Keith. His knowledge and enthusiasm comes across in all his teaching and both courses were a hugely enjoyable experience.
C. H.
I recently attended the '1 Day Understanding Your DSLR Camera Course' and loved it. I couldn't recommend it enough. I learnt so much and now feel confident that I can put my new skills in to practise without ever needing the safety net of the automatic mode again!
Very professionally organised and run course, lead by a very knowledgeable and inspiring teacher backed up with excellent resources. Keith explains quite complicated technology and photography techniques in such a way that everyone can understand which then helps you to learn.
K. F.
Keith's photographs of our event were very professional and of excellent quality. As per the brief, he covered a range of different scenarios from group work to lecture theatre images, and did a great job co-ordinating our rather large group shot. Thanks for being so personable too which is important at a busy event. Very professional approach.

The review below (My first course) was written after my first course with Keith - Understanding Your DSLR. The second was a 1:1 session (October '18) to help me become more effective when shooting in manual mode. Keith in fact suggested that I stick with Aperture Priority and shoot in RAW format, using Adobe Lightroom to process the images. I am beginning to delve into that but so far so good!
Keith is that rare person, an expert who can teach well, making complex concepts simple to understand. I highly recommend his courses. His approach is eminently practical and he teaches what you need not a generic "here's how to..." He also photographed our wedding in 2012 and proved his expertise in practice
My first course: I went on the 1 day Understanding Your DSLR course - a birthday gift from my wife. What an excellent present it turned out to be! I have been taking pictures since the mid 1960s when I used my grandfather's 1930s roll film camera. Having made the change to digital photography it seems that most of what I thought I knew no longer applied so I had relied on "Full Auto" mode which still produced some decent shots but more by luck than judgement. Following this course, I now understand how to achieve in the digital world what I used to know how to do with film and indeed so much more. The course is well structured and presented and gives a solid basis for future practice and experimentation. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
E. D.
Keith shot a Property & Home feature for us at Metro newspaper. We were impressed, not only with with the beautiful results but also by Keith's professionalism and ease to work with. He went above and beyond expectation and we would definitely like to work with him again. Em

I have just done the 1 day Understanding Your DSLR course. I have just acquired a Canon EOS 750D which is a huge leap from my previous compact camera. Keith's clear explanations and practical advice have gone a long way to encourage me to have a go! The course notes will be used for a long time - it's really helpful to be able to check on the detail. I really enjoyed the day. Thank you Keith.

This composition course was exactly what I needed. It has already improved my pictures and I am far more aware of lines, textures, colour, patterns. Keith created a relaxed atmosphere and reviewed our homework to highlight improvements, which was very useful. Learning about famous photographers made me realise that rules can be broken!
r. w.
Keith took some photos for me. I was really pleased with the process and the result - which says a lot about his professionalism, skill and experience. Would definitely recommend, especially if you don't like having your photo taken but need one!

As the ranking above says - I loved the 2 courses I attended with Keith: 'basic photography' and 'composition'; Keith is not only an amazing photographer but also a very enthusiastic and inspirational teacher. He teaches and practises what could be called 'mindful' photography, making sure that photos his students take are not a mindless record of sights but well -thought out and well- shot images that convey emotions. His courses have all the ingredients to be both - enjoyable and useful including professional handouts, theoretical bits followed by practical exercises, weekly assignments constructively criticised and analysed, mixed with contagious passion for photography and dry sense of humour. Professional and affordable for anyone who wishes to learn the basics of photography, explore what your camera will allow you to do, to more advanced ones where you learn all about light, colour or great masters of photography. I have improved my photo taking skills as well as my ability to look at things and actually see what I'm looking at. His courses should come with a warning: highly addictive and fun!

Such a positive experience. I am not comfortable in front of the camera but needed a professional photograph. Keith was friendly and authoritative and this made such a difference and helped to put me at my ease. I am so pleased with the photographs and I highly recommend him.
T. W.
I found Keith's manner very warm, courteous and enthusiastic, and felt comfortable enough to absorb his teaching like a sponge :) I feel my technical understanding has taken several giant leaps forward, and my enthusiasm to pick up my camera has increased as a result. Very good value.
S. M. L. (.
Keith was sent to us to take some photos of our shop for an award we've been nominated for. We couldn't be happier with the photos he has taken. He's really captured our store and everything our family business stands for. Thanks again Keith! I'll buy you a beer if we win!

Attended the 1 day Understanding Your DSLR course on Sunday 26th March. Really can't recommned it enough. I have recently acquired a Canon Eos 80D and had no idea how 95% of it worked! Keith's incredibly clear teaching style has given me the confidence to go out and start using it. This course included the theory of how cameras actually work which meant that when it came to adjusting settings we understood why certain effects were caused. It was a really interesting day and everyone learnt so much through the combination of classroom-style teaching and getting "out and about" in the practical sessions, brilliant value for money and a great introduction to DSLR photography.
D. S.
A really excellent course. Well-planned and skillfully structured, pitched at the right level and all explained clearly and concisely. Loads of inspirational examples used and brilliant web-links to learning resources. Keith's engaging personality and expertise make this a course I would recommend unreservedly. I hope to return to the take the Composition classes in the future.

Opened my eyes to portrait photography, environmental, street and candid. Learned loads about natural lighting and flash. An unexpected pleasure about portrait photography is the social interaction with the subject, great fun. So thank you Keith for an excellent course.
G. L.
Brilliant quality photos.
I needed a good passport photo, and Keith took one (a set) that not only has always been accepted for various passport & ID applications, but also is a complimentary photo of me: very rare for a passport photo!
Definitely worth the money in my opinion.
L. M.
I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed, wonderfully informative and helpful day on Sunday - I now have more confidence to use my camera off the iA setting! Keith is a great teacher, engaging and explaining everything clearly and with patience. Thank you!
T. A.
I took two courses with Keith this winter: Intrroduction to DSLR, and Mastering Lightroom. Both were excellent. The teaching sessions covered a lot of ground very clearly. Keith answered all follow-up questions fully and patiently, with enough humour to keep the tone lively and engaging. Each session was preceded by detailed teaching notes, and followed up with lists of relevant websites for in-depth tutorials on particular topics. Highly recommended.
E.
Just finished my Photoshop course with Keith. In 10 hours of the course I have learned many useful things about using Photoshop CC, but most important I have gained confidence using it. Keith’s teaching was very comprehensive and he found time to answer everybody’s questions. I am planning to take his Lightroom course in the new year. Big thank you!
C. L.
I recently took the composition course - it was really useful and interesting, especially reviewing the work of some of the greats from Cartier-Bresson and Brandt onward. Also I enjoyed the weekly assignments, followed-up by reviews of our work in class - really got me out of a compositional rut! I will certainly follow-up with the intermediate course in the autumn.
D. F. B.
Nice guy.
I needed a good application foto. On the day of the foto shoot I had to cycle through storm and rain and as you can imagine I was not in the best condition when I arrived. But Keith took his time with me so that I could "readjust" myself. With his clear and strait forward instructions we made some wonderful pictures.
Thank you for that.
T. M.
I would highly recommend Keith. He worked with us on a photoshoot for a research group website taking individual portrait (50 people) photographs. He was extremely friendly and professional and this made the photoshoot run perfectly; the results were brilliant, he produced some fantastic photographs for the website.
H. C.
Keith ran a Lightroom workshop. He managed to remove the mystic, and made it very understandable! Very informative & very enjoyable. Now just need to improve my photography!
Highly recommend.
P. C.
I don't enjoy being photographed. Keith put me at my ease and offered some very helpful advice about how to 'face' the camera. I am very pleased with the pictures which Keith produced to a very tight deadline.
K. P.
I really enjoyed this course and it has inspired me to go out and practice much more! I've also got more confident approaching strangers and to try different things. The course was very easy to follow and it was also interesting meeting the other students and seeing their different styles develop, and also learn from them. Thanks again!
i. s.
We needed professional product photography done very quickly. Keith was great- he was able to squeeze us in so that we met our deadline and the images were perfect! Thank you!
K. M.
Completed the 4 week beginners photography course last month. Keith is a very good down to earth tutor who provides very practical tips and comprehensive notes. Homework assignments worth the effort. Was lucky enough to go on holiday shortly after finishing the course and took huge enjoyment in putting into practice my new skills. Seriously considering attending another course.
J. O.
Having been using SLR cameras since 1960's I thought it would be good to refresh myself on latest DSLR that I have just purchased with a basic course. That course more than met my expectations. Delivered in an easily understood manner by an expert with a friendly style.
Best part of course was the outside practice - which ensured you understood it all.
D. R.
I've just finished a beginners digital photography course where I learned a huge amount about my new camera. The lessons were comprehensive and very hands-on. There was good support between lectures. and a really friendly atmosphere in the group.
J. H.
I have always loved taking photographs but have never managed to use my camera properly, I found the whole idea too daunting. This beginners course has totally opened my eyes, it was presented logically and at a gentle pace and taken the 'fear' out of taking my setting off auto. I have already been out to experiment and am sure this will only encourage more photos (oh no!). Additionally, I will now question 'why' I am taking a particular photo. The course was way beyond my expectations. Thank you
L. L.
Keith was incredibly persistant and patient. My gown was creased, so he went quickly to buy an iron... :) Exactly the way, to get brilliant results - thank You so much!!
L. G.
The Introduction to your DSLR course is great. I can’t believe I now know what the buttons on my camera do! It is definitely worth doing and you get so much more from just reading the manual.. it all starts to come together and make sense! Keith is a very good teacher and really knows his stuff! Great course.
I have also just finished the portrait course which I thought was really great and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves photography.
It covers technical information and camera settings, as well as looking at other photographer's work, posing people, composition, reflectors and other accessories, and Keith set’s some great homework each week which really helps you learn.
Really fantastic course.
a. h.
I attended the Beginners' course - cannot recommend it highly enough. I am a total holiday-snap-taker with a £200 bridge camera and still the information from this class has enabled me to take some much better photos, and to utilise and understand the features on my camera instead of using trial and error!
E. M.
A very friendly and professional service, Keith is great at putting people at ease to get good pictures. We got him to do pictures for all our staff for the website and are very happy with the result. Good value for money.
K. A.
Excellent one day course. Keith is a first class teacher and I came away confident that I could get a get deal more out of my camera than I have done to date. Thank you.
A. M.
Very pleased with the profile pictures from my session with Keith. Helpful advice beforehand, friendly and put me at ease on the day, lots of options to choose from and everything completed efficiently in the same day. Highly recommended.

I recently took the portrait photography course. It is an excellent course held over 4 weeks, and I am sure it will prove very beneficial to my photography. It was a privilege to listen to Keith talking in such an engaging way and distilling a lifetime's experience in his talks for the benefit of the class. Keith mixes common sense, wit and practical advice and would be a fine example of how to teach to anyone. His own photographs act as an inspiration to the class. I would strongly recommend this course to all those with an interest in photography. I will almost certainly take further course from the Oxford School of Photography, most probably in black and white photography.
J. K.
The 1day understanding your DSLR camera course is first class. Keith is a great teacher - making the day entertaining as well as informative. There are two breaks for practical sessions so that you can get out and practice what you have learnt with him there to comment and help. I really can't recommend this too strongly.
b.
We've benefited from Keith's comprehensive photographic services for years and would recommend him to anyone. His understanding of complex briefs together with good communication skills and creative ability with a camera, in the often fluid environments of location work, has enabled him to consistently deliver high-quality imagery on time and within budget.
B. S.
Went to Keith for high-quality portraits for my internet presence and that's exactly what I got (friendly atmosphere, concise and helpful explanations included). can only recommend it and would go there anytime again!
T. L.
I saw Keith for his business portrait service. The pictures were great, the service brilliant and Keith very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it!

Portrait photography course
This course took place over 4 evenings and involved seminars on the use of natural light, posing of subjects, capturing subjects doing work/hobbies (environmental portraiture), and use of flash. Keith Barnes gave very engaging seminars, showing a wide range of examples to help illustrate his points from famous photographers, former students and from his own portfolio. An assignment was set each week, and each student was given very useful and constructive feedback on their work in the class each week. I learned a huge amount doing this course and would thoroughly recommend it. It has inspired me to continue developing my portraiture photography.
L. W.
I have just completed the Beginners Photography Course and I found it very useful. I am looking forward to enrolling on another course soon.
