Reviews of Casanova

I've always enjoyed visiting Casanova, but it's been a while and boy have they your their game! The food was absolutely stunning. I had the carpaccio to start, with aged parmesan. Then loin of veal for main, while my wife had the seafood pasta, we shared an excellent cheese board and a rich chocolate mousse. Friendly service and plenty of info about the dishes if you wanted it. Great place for a relaxed evening of good food and wine.

Great food, fab service - not sure why I’ve not been before! Highly recommend

Some of the best food I've ever had, with fantastic, warm service! I had the goat's cheese and beetroot starter, the amazing lamb main, and a divine cannoli dessert. We turned up without a booking, quite late on a Saturday, and are really grateful to get a table: made a birthday celebration extra special. Thank you!
C. G.
The flavours in the dishes here will blow your mind, I had the squid ink risotto and it was just amazing! An unassuming-looking side-street restaurant that punches well above its weight!
M. L.
A culinary treat in Cardiff. The menu has beautiful choices, but make sure to ask about the pasta. Nothing disappointed. Go!

I cannot reccomend this little gem enough. The goats cheese starter was fabulous, the rabbit and risotto divine. Service was awesome and follow that with a cannoli that was fresh as anything, you can't go wrong here. Wife had the goat ragu and that was equally as good. It's a lovely little space with attentive and chatty staff and the food was perfect. Will be heading back here again for sure.
P.s. don't let my terrible photo put you off!
E. B.
The best Italian restaurant in the UK. The facts speak for themselves: a Michelin starred restaurant serving the best Italian food and wines. You'll enjoy every single minute of this amazing experience. Highly recommended.
C. L.
Went on Valentine's day, the boss treated us with a warm welcoming and nice food. Although the main course delayed for half an hour, he compensated with a platter of prosciutto and cheese. The tiramisu was extraordinary good and recommend.
T. W.
As always fantastic food great service and wine. Fresh cooking at it's best.
Y. Y.
Superb little Italian place, quiet when we went. The food is delicious and while service is a very leisurely pace, it is friendly. The bread is best eaten with the olive oil alone, as the oil is full of rich flavour and is apparently sourced from Italy.
The risotto was deliciously seasoned and covered generously with summer truffle. Very rich and thoroughly enjoyable.
The main was a slow cooked ragu - when the pasta is cooked al dente and the meat is tender and soft, you know it's been done right.
L. K.
A lovely place to go for real Italian food. Not your boring standard fare. You can get a beautiful Carpaccio, unique pasta dishes and lovely wine.
The space is small down stairs, there is a second floor with more seating. If you are disabled reserve a seat downstairs stating why. The bathroom is upstairs and so it's best to go before you go! 👌🏼
It's cosy and not fancy. Great for date night or out with foodie friends. It's all about the food and the service is wonderful.
Once lockdown is over we will return and update with more photographs.

We’ve known about Casanova from our neighbours who have been coming regularly for many years, but this was the first time we tried it. We went for Saturday lunch. The restaurant was busy and clearly has a large number of loyal, regular customers. The food and service were brilliant. The menu is not extensive but is interesting and not like your typical pasta/pizza Italian menu. There were also lovely daily specials on offer. I had the black pudding starter followed by calf liver with Parmesan mash and red cabbage. These were two of the best courses I’ve had in a long time. My wife had sardines for starters followed by beef Ragu. We were both more than satisfied. Casanova also has an excellent selection of Italian wines. We will definitely be back soon.
S. T.
Sensational warmth on arrival as a solo stranger. Made me feel very welcomed. A meal that rates as one of my best ever. The beef carpaccio was so good I was going to order a second one. This place is lot to be missed!
Y. L.
We tried the tasting menu, and so glad we did. Everything was amazing and they had the most thoughtful and attentive staff.
Would definitely go back

Very nice atmosphere, you feel comfortable. Very good service! They offer an interesting and delicious lunch menu. Whatever you choose will be deliciously prepared and served with the class. I recommend it! p.s. don't miss the traditional Italian desserts!

Fantastic food and service. Went in for a 3 course lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The food is amazing. Simple, tasty and very well executed. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I wish I lived closer. Would go every week. First class.
I.
Stumbled across this place whilst looking online for somewhere to have lunch when out Christmas shopping.
Delicious freshly cooked food, the licorice panna cotta was one of the best desserts I've ever had.
Need to book in advance here as I guess as its always busy and very popular.
Service was very first class too.
Very happy!

This is a small authentic Italian Restaurant owned and run by Antonio Cersosimo, who originates from Milan. For starters i had a fantastic salami made from black Calabrian pig with fresh organic olive oil made from a blend of Coratina olives. I then had black pudding with a tangy chutney. My main was a goat ragu, which had a rich but smooth tasting tomato based sauce. I finished with a selection of Italian cheeses. Service was great. Well worth a visit next time you are in Cardiff.
S. R.
The most beautiful meal I have ever eaten. Every mouthful was like a bite of heaven! Welcoming staff and pleasant atmosphere. It was a little pricey but worth every penny.
S. C.
A wonderful little place in the middle of Cardiff.
Friendly and warm staff and the food was excellent, would highly recommend this place if you are visiting Cardiff.
T. M.
Simply out of this world food. Prepare to have your taste buds treated to some of the freshest nicest food I've had in years. Super friendly and helpful staff. Very fair pricing for the quality. Will definitely go back when I return to Cardiff.

Well to say the food is good is an understatement, was as good as anything I've eaten in my many trips in Italy
I will be most certainly returning

I am amazed. In Britain you can find delicious food. It was greate food.
S. C.
As Italian I am happy and proud I found this restaurant. It is not only a place where the quality is top notch but every time I visit it is like am going back to Italy. Thank you guys for the excellent service and pride you put on!!
M. O.
Good service the waitresses were amazing. The manager was deeply rude though. They offer you bread when you arrive then charge it 3.75£
The service fee is way too high.
Won’t come back.
T. L. (. F.
Proper Italian, with short but interesting menu. Don't expect spag. bol.if go here
W. U.
Very impressed with this restaurant. Very friendly and attentive staff. Every dish we ordered were top quality i.e. goat ragu, Welsh lamb steak, canoli etc.
Definitely going back in our next visit to Cardiff.
B. C.
One of the best places I've eaten in Cardiff. Staff are lovely and food amazing. Looking forward to going back again
M. S.
A simply exquisite Italian restaurant. Eaten here twice now and excellent both times. Fantastic welcome, attentive and will be going back. Especially good to my son who’s vegetarian and lots offered on menu and adapted for him as well as extra choice offered. Loved the puglian wine which reminded us of a holiday we had. Recommend totally.
C. G.
The most Amazing food I have ever tasted... Incredible ... Small family run business. Not posh ,but the best food in Cardiff
I. C.
I feel obliged to leave a review because this place is simply amazing. The feta cheese and the risotto are the best I’ve ever had. The house wine is absolutely delicious - nice and light, goes well with the food. The service is genuine and sincere. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Cardiff.
L. C.
Casanova is a hidden gem. Everything we ate was outstanding. The goat ragu was just beautiful, the pasta was heavenly and their cannoli are the best I've found in Cardiff. If you like real Italian food then you must try Casanova
J. M.
Food is delicious, their just wasn't enough of it for me. Perfect for a date night or those with small appetites.
N. N.
We stumbled across this place after a rugby match at the millennium stadium. Despite not having booked a table the manager soon placed us with no waiting time at all. The menu was small but a great choice. 3 courses cost £45.00 per head. The quality and taste of the food was exquisite and I can honestly say it was the tastiest food we have ever eaten. The service was excellent . I would recommend any one to go there.
A. F.
Delicious food, incredible service, very cosy atmosphere. One of the best place I have ever been in the UK!
E. L.
Tasty amazing food, decent prices, lovely owner (or maybe manager) and good atmosphere (but wouldn’t mind gentler lighting for a sat eve date night - helps the wrinkles!)
P. O.
We had a lovely welcome and a really delicious meal it's a shame is not on our doorstep Carys Peter
F. B.
Food and service are top notch. One of the best restaurants in the city. It is not cheap but it is impressive and the staff are friendly and efficient. Really good wine list too and the owner can't be too helpful in advising you on choice. It has a short food menu which is a really good sign as it means they concentrate on doing a few things very well, which they succeed in doing. The place is cosy and welcoming, but can get very crowded. I do not work for any company and the restaurants I visit and review are my own choice and I pay my own bills and have no connection with any owners. I am entirely independent.
M. M.
Beautiful food! The Owner is lovely and introduces himself to everyone and had a lovely chat with me. Got a table with no reservation on Friday night around 7.30. Delicious soup to start then a lovely Italian red wine, followed by the mouth-watering lamb! It was beautiful !! Finished with a 20 year old brandy! £37 total.
G. H.
Exquisite authentic Italian cuisine. Excellent service, menu and wine list. Fabuluoso!
J. R.
Fantastic small Italian. Staff are attentive and helpful. Menu is small but devine. Lovely atmosphere, well worth a visit. Book in advance...
R. T. B.
Great intimate Italian restaurant tucked away in Quay Street. The food is cooked and served with artistic flair above the usual fare. Very attentive staff. Be prepared to pay more than the average, but well worth it. I went on a Friday evening and it was packed out so book ahead.
J. H.
Fantastic little gem of a restaurant with fresh ingredients and great pasta I had a daily special with king prawns and roasted tomatoes it was cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly. Atmosphere reminded me of my last time in Rome the price was more than reasonable will definitely eat here next time I'm in town
R. M.
We went to Casanova while visiting family in Cardiff, we were in for a treat, although quite small the social distancing was spot on the staff all wore masks and hand sanitizers were available on entering. The food and service were exceptional,we would highly recommend this restaurant and if back in Cardiff in the future would love to come again
S. D.
Great food and service, first visit but will be back
M. P. G.
My son surprised us tonight with a delivery, wow wow wow. The food was mouth wateringly delicious beyond belief. We have never been to the restaurant but can't wait to visit when the lockdown is over. Thank you, stay safe and see you soon .
R. P.
Fantastic restaurant. Lovely atmosphere and food was superb!
N. S.
We took our vegan niece to Casanova recently. Antonio the chef was extremely helpful and adjusted dishes, created new ones etc etc for her. In fact, as he was describing them to her, other customers were expressing an interest in them too!
She was really pleased with the attention and said it was really pleasant not to be treated as a pariah for a change.
She said the food was great too.
J. S.
Great find, courtesy of google! Enjoyed a really lovely meal. Service was really friendly and good. You can tell everything is cooked fresh, ergo service isn't as swift as in the high street Italians. We had the ragu and the beef and were very happy with our choices. Would certainly come back again and more than happy to recommend.
j. w.
I ate here just before the Welsh lock down took grasp. So authentic and so delicious, the wine list is something to behold. I might try and buy a flat near by...
M. H.
Fantastic food at a reasonable price on their two or three course offer. All six of our group had different dishes and all six enjoyed their food! Wine was delicious too. Staff are very friendly.
B. R.
Very good independent Italian restaurant. Interesting menu which thankfully departs from the mundane pizza/pasta approach. Interesting wines too, with by the glass availability. Worth a try, we will go back there.
W. D.
Tonight we visited Casanova for th first time which we hadn’t booked . The staff were very friendly and arranged a table for us. We ordered wine and were given the menus . Starters were brilliant and we looked forward to our main course . I ordered beef 2 ways , and my companion ordered prawns and pasta .
When our mains arrived my 1st beef portion was well cooked , but the second was raw which I didn’t.expect which my companion ate . Her meal looked great but the pasta was under cooked . Our bill came to £85 pounds £ 30 of which was for the bottle of wine which we enjoyed . We requested coffee but unfortunately the coffee machine had broken.which was a dissapointment . The restaraunt was busy but overhaul we were disappointed .
G. F.
Look at the pic: attractive presentation and the lamb itself was very tasty. The promised roast potatoes and caramelized cauliflower materialised in the shape of a little sliver of cauliflower and a third of a roast potato (a third of one) At almost fifty quid for a three course meal, I felt Casanoved: seduced, taken advantage of and let out the door.
And by the way, am I the only one to think that accompanying buffalo mozzarella with orange is an abomination?
K. G. H.
I was taken here by a friend visiting Cardiff. I liked the menu and the prices - a three course meal for £24.00. Also at the front of the menu they list from where the various foods are sourced. The quality of the food was excellent, so was the wine. The rating is marked down because the mixer added to our aperitifs was flat and the veal was slightly overdone..
G. Q.
Managed to get a last minute booking at this lovely Italian restaurant. They have a smaller menu than most Italian restaurants, but this has allowed them to cook their dishes to the highest quality and maximum flavour. The porchetta and ragu were cooked brilliantly and the meat super tender, so would definitely recommend these dishes. The owner and staff are all friendly and has that atmosphere of being in an italian restaurant. Price is reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food and they offer two or three courses at fixed prices.
A. L.
Wonderful food. Very hospitable staff.
Superb ambience.
Very much worthy of a visit.
-.
A fantastic fine dining experience, which was very accomodating after we found that the hotel we were staying in had ammended their menu to that of a Wetherspoons!
In a state of panic, I phoned this restaurant, who booked us in 30 minutes after.
There are no words other than perfection. The lamb I had was sincerely the best dish that I have ever consumed. Everything was cooked perfectly and there is a car park in close proximity of the establishment.
I recommend this small local find to anyone considering it. A perfect night out started at Casanova, Cardiff.
P. M.
Brilliant place! We needed an early quickish supper before a show and Casanova did the business. It's just a pity we were slightly rushed. Excellent personal service and advice. Genuine Italian and so much better than the chains.
m. l.
staff all very friendly and attentive the food was superb the entire evening was a great experience Only downside is that the facilities for disabled customers is not very good
J. W.
Great friendly restaurant. We were going to a tapas restaurant that we passed but luckily it was closed (Monday) so we found this place and what a lovely little find. Great food and superb wine, it is only a small place with a small kitchen so I can see why the table of 9 had slow service but we didn't experience this. I would definitely recommend it here and will be back next time we are in Cardiff.
J. S.
Visited in the first week after lockdown had a lovely meal which included probably the best pasta dish I've ever had.
A. N.
As a party of four we could only get a table at 8 pm, due to the rugby in Cardiff. That was not a problem waiting as the reviews promised a lot.
We were a bit disappointed, because the menu was reduced (missing scallops and venison, for example, but the price was increased to £40, well above the advertised price of £28 on the website. Discussion with a couple next to us, confirmed the same feeling! And, they were Welsh!
I cannot fault the food we had, that was superb! Only problem was that one main meal arrived for my wife and the other main meals 12 minutes later. So she ended up eating cold food!
The chef is brilliant, but the service needs to step up!
n. e.
Food perfect. Excellent staff. No wonder
It made it into the Michelin Guide..
G. F.
We visited Cardiff to go to the opera and were here for Saturday evening. We had an excellent meal, I had carpaccio to start and pasta Mari e Monti which was prawns and mushrooms, a lovely flavour. My companions had the goat ragu, chicken, risotto and for dessert, tarte di molasses (treacle tart). All was cooked superbly and delicious. Loved it.
S. D.
The food, the wine and the people make you believe that you are in a little corner in Italy. It's beautiful and the chefs know what they are doing!
Incredible place.
M. S.
Friendly staff managed to fit us in at last minute. Food was delicious. Service was great. Wine was lovely. Highly recommended
O. G.
An Italian restairant out of Italy that tastes of Italian.
Small choice of menu due to the impressive quality of any of the dishes (we tried 5 dishes).
100% recommended.
A. F.
Fantastic food and service. Can't recommend enough. Will definitely visit again
r.
Fantastic food with a very friendly staff with a modern family owned atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone local.
B. D.
Great authentic Italian food, not just pasta - stews, sausages, fish etc. Staff are friendly and efficient. Upstairs can get loud due to acoustics, but worth a visit. Or two.
B. w.
One of the most amazing meals I have eaten in cardiff, fantasticly polite staff, tremendous service and a fantastic atmosphere. Food was exquisite and the wine selections were refreshing.
A. N.
As always, another amazing visit. The service, wine and food are beyond reproach at this restaurant. It is by far our favourite place to eat in Cardiff, would recommend to anyone!
Y. H.
Very good Italian restaurant, not your ordinary pizza place. Passionate and knowledgeable staff proving great food with enough vegetarian options as well.
V. M.
Absolutely wonderful service food consistently delightful cannot praise it enough 👍
W. S.
Nice food but small portions for an Italian restaurant, a bit expensive for the amount you get.Nice staff and I did enjoy it.
S. M.
Lovely small authentic Italian, very friendly. Lunchtime menu is superb. Must return to experience in the evening.
S. M.
Always wonderful food and great service. Staff works together smoothly so you are always being taken care of. Expensive, but worth the money for a special occasion.
N. A.
Incredible food, they managed to accommodate a last minute booking of 15 people, and the food is some of the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy!
C. F.
Really nice place, not fancy but still recommended by Michelin, we had a beautiful lunch, they have specials everyday and the Orrecchiete with lamb ragu was fantastic
I. U.
Beautiful food and lovelly service. Leave room for a dessert too if you can. Probably not the cheapest but worth the effort to find it just off the main drag in the center. Recommended ;-)
S. R.
Small menu of absolutely delicious food. Staff were delightful. All in all a very special restaurant.
O. W.
Went there with a group of 9, it took ages for our food to arrive, the waitress popped open our champagne and spilt a fair amount of it on the floor- this was just mopped up and we didn't really get an apology. Wouldn't rush back there unfortunately.
J. E.
Absolutely no idea what food I was eating but it was very well presented and tasted gorgeous. The service is exceptional
S. U.
I've had many wonderful lunches here. Everything is beautifully crafted from carefully sourced ingredients. Terrific wines.
L. V.
Proper Italian restaurant; of the kind that doesn't have pizza on the menu and imports their own wines. Friendly service and laid back atmosphere. Great value.
S. D.
4th visit and each time the food has been excellent. You may have to wait between courses but when you have good wine, food and friends who wants to rush.
C. T.
Great food, full of flavour; good wine; excellent welcome and service - and all at a very reasonable price - I cannot fault this restaurant.
J. N.
A great place for all, vegans are catered for and the staff are more than attentive. We're lucky this place exists in Cardiff.
K. S.
Best Italian in Cardiff. Period. They have a very small but delicious menu. This is a real Italian restaurant.

A. D.
Very pleasant restaurant.
M. M.
Good food and service. The menu we had was fixed price depending on number of courses. This delivers relatively poor value for vegetarians.

D. K.
Lovely restaurant, great food and wine. The staff are very helpful and give wonderful customer service.

Food was ok, but for the price I would like more. The pasta I had was underdone. The server was rude, which is surprising for a nice place like this.
I would not choose to go there again
