One of the best Italian restaurants in Edinburgh. I was last in here over 30 years ago and it's still as good as it was back then. The staff were very courteous and friendly. It gets 10 out of 10 from me.

Truly some of the best Italian food I’ve had, and possible the best you can eat in Edinburgh. The quality of the ingredients is unmatched and you can taste it through the food. Prices are very fair and if you’re lucky and the owner is there, he will give you spicy sauce to add to your food. But be careful, you have to respect it! It’s really hot!

Great spot for lunch outdoors. We didn’t want a lot so opted to share a couple of sides (garlic and mozzarella focaccia, and rosemary potatoes) and it is HUGE. More than enough for two for a light lunch, tasted great too. Food going to other tables looked fantastic. Only minor gripe on the food was that it was very greasy and had to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. Service was a little slow, but everyone was friendly and it was all incredibly reasonably priced for the location.

Great service for our loud big group of Americans. The food is delicious and well priced. Wide choice of wines, although I don’t drink. The people in my group were well pleased with the selection of alcoholic beverages. The desserts were amazing. We had the cheesecake, toffee pudding, and bonaffee pudding. Our waiter took the time to get to know us and was hilarious. Definitely will be going back next time we’re here.

Booked Gordon's as we were visiting Edinburgh to see Hairspray the musical. Read reviews in advance while I deciding where to book. We were certainly not disappointed. We did wait a while for our food but it was busy so understandable. When the food arrived I can honestly say its one of the best authentic Italian I have eaten. We had the pizza, pesto tagliatelle and pollo Diane. Recommend them all. Staff were great and the owner introduced himself and asked how our evening was. Definitely found a restaurant we will visit every time we are in Edinburgh.

Wow wow wow! We had 3 courses all of which were lovely, service is good and seating is clean etc. HOWEVER I cannot get over how tasty my mushroom risotto was, it was the best i have ever EVER had! Went here last week for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The cocktails to start were incredible abs beautifully served. The food was 10/10. My daughter and I both opted for a prawn pasta it was the best I’ve had the others had pizza which again was perfect, thin, crispy and delicious. We had tirimisu to end which was also beautifully presented and again delicious. The staff are fun, friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to return. 🍕

Great food & quick service, considering it was a busy Saturday night. It's a very narrow venue so things can get a bit cosy, beware if you're very shy and retiring. Very lively atmosphere and the staff make you welcome especially the boss, Gordon, if he's in. All in all highly recommended.

Great Italian place on the Royal Mile. Loved the the Calamari. The staff is friendly and welcoming. However the lady mixed up the orders and at times forgot about the order. Was surely quite inside the restaurant when we visited and more people seated outside enjoying the sunshine. We have been regulars at this joint and the staff are really friendly and candid. Quality of the food is good but feels overpriced due to the festive season.

It is mine and my fiancé’s first time in Edinburgh, and we saw Gordon’s on our way up the high street. They found us a table really fast. They were so hospitable and considerate. The food is incredible! All fresh and you can tell the staff enjoy working there which creates a brilliant atmosphere! We enjoyed ourselves that much we went again on our second night, and they really made us feel welcomed and nothing was too much trouble! We had a nice chat with a lady sitting next to us, and we all agreed that the atmosphere and attentiveness to each of the customers was fantastic! Possibly the best Italian in Edinburgh, seriously. The moment you step into Gordon's Trattoria, you get a taste of Italian hospitality. The owner is very welcoming and friendly, a very chatty lad! The portions are phenomenal for the price. You get what you pay for, and even more. I'd recommend their calzone, which you could share with someone, because of its size. The food itself is delicious and will make you want more. Their drinks are also phenomenal, outbidding some good cocktail bars. If you want to eat well, come here, you won't be disappointed.

The host/manager (maybe owner) of the restaurant was amazing and the quality of the food was high. We stumble in here because it noted it was child/family friendly and he went out of his way to make us comfortable and keep the kiddos happy without feeling guilty for having kids with us on vacation. Very friendly and attentive staff who delivered my food quickly with a smile (which is always appreciated.) The ravioli was lovely and a lot more filling than it looks at first glance; would recommend if you’re a lover of pasta and spinach. I’d also recommended sitting outdoors if available as the atmosphere was great and the seating area quite cosy. Huge fan of the vodka sour as well, although a little pricey for the size of it- hence the 4/5 stars. Would definitely eat here again :)

The location is in the centre of Royal Mile. We had a lovely meal sitting in the patio, enjoying the sun and the view of beautiful St Giles cathedral. The food was good overall especially the seafood pasta. The sea bass has a bit raw smell. The malty drink is very good. But what annoyed us is the bill has around 20 pounds food that we didn’t order. The waiter didn’t figure it out the correct bill even in the recalculation. I hope they didn’t do it intentionally because this is quite close to a tourist place. Overall good experience.

My Caprese salad was £8 and I honestly think I make a better version myself for less than £1. Loved the decoration inside however!

They offer gluten-free meals aside from the usual menu and they serve various alcoholic bevs (Scotch Whisky, as well) to liven up the atmosphere. Friendly staff but pizzas were poor, far to much cheese and chef must like using garlic oil (a lot) so way too stodgy for our liking. Kids' pizzas bizarrely star and heart shaped (gender assigned) son was very annoyed with his star as felt he had a raw deal lol. By the way they add a "discretionary" service charge to the bill, that's not on in my opinion. Have eaten much nicer food in much nicer surroundings in Edinburgh.

Quaint little place serving food that tastes like Mom used to make! Ordered the Tagliatelle Reale and friend ordered the Lasagna and we were very happy with both. Ordered the Caprese con mozzarella di bufala and Bruschetta classica for appetizers and both were fresh and delicious. Bufala Mozzarella tasted like it was straight from Italy! Decent wine list and wait staff was attentive. If you're looking for a homemade meal in a casual restaurant then this is the place for you!

This restaurant surpassed my expectations and was absolutely fantastic, I had chicken breast in a marsala wine sauce with asparagus and cherry tomatoes, my partner had prawn tagliatelle with cherry tomatoes and asparagus and both meals were fantastic,all credit to the chef and the waiting staff who were so welcoming and deserve credit for what they are producing, the food is prepared with fresh ingredients, as you can tell by the beautiful flavours, they deserve all of the praise they get.

We both ordered pizza which sadly was very bland and tasteless despite having some nice toppings. The pizza sauce was under seasoned, and the base was thick and bland. Came here end of November 2018 and had a superb meal, served by Kelly who is absolutely lovely! This evening I took my mum and two girls aged 13 & 9 and Gordon’s didn’t disappoint! I’m assuming he’s the owner, the charming gentleman treated the kids like royalty, pizza made in a heart shape, carbonara portion perfect for Ella who ate the lot! The chef was smiling and interacting with my youngest. Cookie cheesecake was insane... we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Food and service exceptional. Thank you guys so much! Literally cannot believe that someone gave this 1*. We absolutely loved it. We were so lucky to get the last table outside on sunny evening and had great banter with the owner/maitre d'. Food was amazing - no way could it described as "bssic" I had delicious broccoli, gorgonzola and black.olive risotto, mum raved about carbonara and Dad was equally complimentary about sea bass. Loved the sticky toffee pudding too and we hope to revisit Gordon's before end of holiday

Well after traipsing the city for a few hours we eventually decided on the first place that looked and smelled nice, so we happened upon this place... brilliant service excellent atmosphere al fresco dining on the royal mile. I jealously sat and watched my better half enjoy her carbonara while i had a very decent penne especial both served with crisp fresh garlic bread slices and a couple of obligatory peroni and a cheeky frozen limoncello to finish. The wife and I celebrated my 43rd birthday by stopping over in Edinburgh. We had been recommended several restaurants by family but due to the lateness of our arrival most were booked up. We then were recommended Gordon's by a local restaurator and decided to give it a try. 1st impressions are some what disappointing, with the layout and lighting more resemblant of a canteen. However, as I said to my better have as we sat down. Don't judge a book by its cover. The service was excellent. The food was fabulous. And I mean fabulous. I had the parwn cocktail followed by lasagne. Both stunned me. I've eaten a lot of lasagne in my time but I don't think I've enjoyed it quite as much as last night's. We sat close to the front of the restaurant and from there you can see the chef preparing your meal. And it's all done in a great atmosphere. We will be back... I want to try the steak.

The venue is more of a cafe diner than a restaurant and somewhat strangely the bins were situated right in the middle next to our table. As things stand the prices are a little high, either the venue needs to be improved or the prices need to reflect you are eating in a cafe diner.

Vino by the litre and a hearty portion of Lasagna, piping hot from the pizza oven, just like Mama used to make. The only thing sweeter than the Tiramisu was the attentive and personable staff. I observed them serve all the clients on the patio with a laid back smile and helpful commentary while singing along to the dulcet tones of Elvis and harmonising with the Beach Boys. Chilled Limoncello was a refreshing digestif and the double Espresso smooth as silk. An excellent vantage point for people watching on the Mile comparable to the piazzas of Rome... a kaleidoscope of humanity to behold. Lone Piper in the distance and church bells sounding out the hour. What’s not to like? A very pleasant, sun kissed afternoon. A sincere, “Thank You,” to the guys and gals at Gordon’s.

Added to this the service is fantastic and very unique.... You can either fall in love with Gordons daughter Daniela or you can listen to Gordon sing on a Friday evening! Superb. Especially his version of Cat Stevens 'Father & Son'! It's very difficult to talk about great food on its own - food is only made great by the people behind it!
