I am absolutely delighted by this place. The service was superb with Piras, he gave us such great recommendations that I would have had seconds if I had room left to eat. Unfortunately, I did not take the name of our second waiter who was very kind and friendly. The food was to die for!!We got mussels in cream sauce and thinly sliced beef with Parmesan cheese that we couldn’t have enough of. For our mains, we had a pizza and pasta that were both really good, but no where near our starters. We ordered half a bottle of wine that complemented the food perfectly. I don’t remember the name of the dishes, but I do have pictures. Don’t mind my bad photography skills

🪴The aesthetics of the restaurant were incredibe and so festive! 🎄The lively ambience makes it a perfect spot to visit for date night or with friends & family 🥰 The food was full of flavour! The lobster ravioli was divine 🤤 the Capesante al Forno (scallops) was quite disappointing as there was too many breadcrumbs! Gamberoni Luciana is a must try too, it was so delish! ⭐Service was a bit slow as it was so busy but the staff were friendly🥰 ⭐Would highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you love Italian food🇮🇹⭐

I’ve visited twice in December. 1st time was busy and the staff were great. 2nd visit was terrible. Not busy at all and our order was forgotten and took over an hour to arrive. All the staff avoided our table as they knew we’d waited so long and every time we asked about our food, the staff were very rude and even blamed the kitchen staff! Some money was knocked off our bill after i had to complain about the rudeness and lack of apologies. Food was nice but wouldn’t go again with so many other great Italian restaurants in Leicester.

This was a lovely restaurant, food quality was better than expected and price was very good. I like that service charge is included so you don’t need to care about having to tip and overall the price was brilliant. Slightly lacking in a range of various alcohol but that may be more of my part for not liking wine as they have plenty of that with it being an Italian. Just a single cider option would be nice though.

Old school British Italian restaurant; popped in for an early dinner of pizza, chips and a glass of wine. Service excellent, food amazing, one of the best pizzas I've had. Charming interior and vibe, with a great view onto busy street / hustle and bustle. Would score 5 but would like to return at a busier time and try different dishes. Keep doing what you're doing, excellent!

Although food was good the service was quite bad, the waitress got the orders wrong so one person had no main meal only her side orders so by the time hers came the side orders were cold and the four of us had eaten half of ours. They then came with the wrong pudding cheesecake instead of cheese board and then tried to charge us for it on the bill. We spent nearly £400 including a £35 service charge (outrageous with such bad service) and expect better, they were so taken up with the celebrity eating in their restaurant they forgot about their other customers, a real shame !!

Made a reservation for four, when we arrived at the restaurant we waited for a good 10mins before anyone greeted us. Then we were told there was nothing booked in our name. Nevertheless, they allowed us in. The food was great and well presented. However, customer service was really bad. Some male staff/waitresses were really arrogant and unapproachable.

Very standard. In the sense of a coop meal deal. Anyone who says it has flavour are the same people that say pepper is seasoning on food. If you want real food, just look in your bin. Because in all honesty your bin has cheaper and faster food than San carlos. Save your money and eat whats at home.

San Carlo's in Leicester would not have been my first choice as a dining venue but I am delighted it turned out to be the place. My fellow diner on the evening was not entirely happy about his antipasti but thought the main dish was superb. My dishes were both very good indeed, though. My only regret was our choice of wine as it did not complement the food very well - but that was our own mistake because we had been drinking red and decided to stick with red. The waiters are polite and chatty, the food is good. Price wise not too expensive. Overall, we had a good time.

Average. Finally had an evening meal here after hearing all of the hype so I had to find out for myself. We got seated at our table around 20:00 and after a few minutes we ordered our drinks. Nothing complicated. Around 45 minutes later. They arrived. After being chased up 3 times. We were contemplating whether just to get up and leave due to the lack of urgency and we hadn’t even ordered our food yet. Again after a long wait, our waiter came and took our order. Garlic mushrooms, Scallops, Garlic bread with tomato & mozzarella (btw this is basically a margarita pizza with garlic). Garlic mushrooms = fantastic. Scallops = nothing special Garlic bread? = pizza. Then the mains came after another long wait of around 30 minutes. Again. Nothing special. Bang average food. The lobster and prawn ravioli was gritty. Not sure if it had been prepared properly. The deserts we saw being taken to other tables did look good however. Unfortunately. With the service we had. We couldn’t be bothered to wait for even longer. Got the bill. Waiters seemed like the couldn’t be bothered to take out money. Had to ask three times to pay and like other reviews say, there was a 10% tip automatically added to the price. It does say optional next to it however. So it’s completely up to you. Overall over three hours for a two course meal? Not again.

Great food, sub-par service. As a younger person going out for a friends birthday dinner the staff seemed to treat us differently which didn’t sit right with any of us. It made us feel quite uncomfortable, which then had a knock on effect for the rest of the evening. Overall would return to give them a second try.

I went to this restaurant tonight for the first time in a few years. The food was as good as ever but the service tonight was absolutely terrible. I waited 10 minutes at the reception desk for someone to come and greet me even though I had booked a table. My girlfriend's drink never arrived and when we complained they said they didn't have any of that drink and she would have to have something else. Then they had the cheek to charge us for the drink that never arrived! I ordered a salad with my lasagna but the salad never arrived until my lasagne had gone cold. They were even tardy about bringing the card machine over when I asked for the bill. Very disappointing considering the good experience I had the first time I visited this restaurant.

I long wanted to come to this place, but was afraid that prices may bite, the place looks very respectable from the outside and inside with all the staff sharply dressed. I visited the place yestderday to congratulate my friends with graduation and was surprisingly pleased. The food was delicious, the service polite and attentive to customers and prices were quite affordable. I and my friends had a great experience here, and I only regret that O did not come to this place two years ago when just moved to Leicester.

We were a large group and had our Christmas Dinner party at San Carlo's Leicester on the 3rd December. It was brilliant! The service was second to none, every member of staff looked after our group incredibly well, made us feel very welcome, all allergie requirement were catered for. And the food was amazing quality, fresh and very tasty. I had the Ribeye Steak for main and it was cooked to perfection. Three courses were served with good timing, and there was no rush for us to leave after dinner finished. The staff made every effort possible to fulfil every one's wishes. I would like to especially thank Sergio for looking after us so well and making it a wonderful evening to remember. I would highly recommend San Carlo's to all my friends. Thank you 😊

My husband surprised me for our 5th wedding anniversary dinner. It was a lovely Italian restaurant. We was greeted in a friendly manner and showed to our table. Had a great experience here apart from a few issues which were that they were low on certain desserts, however it was father's Day the night before. Apart from this it was brilliant, starters and mains were very tasty, the queen scallops are amazing I'd highly recommend this. The vegetarian truffle and pecorino pasta was amazing, calabrese pizza was good and the pizza fritta (basically a fried calzone) was to die for. I ended up having the chocolate and hazelnut cake which was great shame they were out of the creme brulé!

Incredibly warm and welcoming experience. From the minute we sat down we felt welcome. Our server was friendly & professional. The best opening of a corked bottle of wine I’ve seen in a long time. He made great suggestions on the wine list and even came back to ask us if we wanted sides with our main when we forgot to order them. However, all of the staff were great, going out of their way to ensure we had a great experience even when the restaurant was very busy. The excellent service was matched by the delicious food. Light and fragrant focaccia paired perfectly with a creamy parmesan and truffle ravioli starter. An expertly cooked Pollo al Voldostana, just like my Italian New Yorker mother used to make followed by a delicate tiramisu with the perfect balance of espresso & mascarpone. Finished off with a coffee and limoncello. Definitely will be visiting again and again and again.

We had a delicious meal, amongst a really gorgeous setting, the real shame was the fairly young female waitress that had an absolutely terrible attitude, and spoke extremely rudely to several members of our party. Also I couldn't have been more excited to have an authentic tiramisu for desert but was treated to our lovely waitress's smile for the first time as she happily told me it was 'finished' and I couldn't have any. My goodness I must say the food was amazing - the service did let it down, but i would go back - as some of the other servers that I interacted with seemed great (notably the man in the glasses) one member of our party was in a wheelchair- we were very easily able to get up and down the nice wide ramp to get in and out of the restaurant, plenty of space around the table.

I went to San Carlo with two friends. When we arrived the waitress, Margherita from Spain welcomed us in a really nice way, she showed us our table and she took immediately our orders for the drinks. It was the first time for us in the restaurant so we asked her for some advices...she is the nicest person in the world, and she helped us a lots. We ordered few starters, and a waiter from sardinia (Italy) brought the food to our table and took our orders for the "secondo". Again his kindness was amazing, something out of this world. We had a great experience in the restaurant... The food was great, the service amazing one of the best places I ever been. I really recommend.

Went to San Carlo for an evening family meal. There were 9 of us and we were served quickly even though it was a Saturday night. The food was excellent and the price was good. The atmosphere was authentic Italian which we love and even though we were there for ages we were never made to feel like they wanted us to go. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend San Carlo to anyone who loves Italian food be that for a romantic dinner for 2 or for a large family get together

The staff were so friendly and so helpful. One of our party has a nut allergy so the maitre de checked, double checked and triple checked that there were no nuts. The food was absolutely amazing, and reasonably priced. We all tried different dishes and no complaints were to be had. We didnt leave room for desert, there were a good selection of drinks, we didnt need to wait to be seated and our needs were met with manbers and smiles.

Last minute booking on a busy Saturday night after we were let down by another restaurant. Nice setting, good tables, good atmosphere and good service. Really good menu, great range. Both my wife and I were able to find plenty of choice on the menu. Food was really good, tasty and authentic. I couldn’t believe it when I found a slice of bacon in my seafood dish. I’m a non pork eater for religious and cultural reasons. I have never eaten pork in my entire life.After pointing it out I received a lovely apology and free desserts.I have been visiting that restaurant for 15 years and to think that was their answer to serving me a dish with bacon in it. I would have thought that they would make our entire meal complimentary but we paid for the main, the drinks and the sides after this terrible ordeal. We returned after a week for my birthday and were greeted by the manager and a full apology was given. Although this should not have happened in the first place, they made sure we had a lovely night, San Carlos still remains our favourite restaurant.

As always the food was superb a varied menu to suit all tasts and pockets, a special mention to the waiter that boned the sea Bass at the table ,great job. Really tasty food, and much more interesting than your standard pizza-and-pasta Italian. The tapas are a great way to try a lot of different things in one go, which is great, since there's so much to choose from. Excellent wine list too (Italian, of course!) and reasonably priced. The food's quite pricey, (you can see why it's worth it when you taste it!) so it's a good place for a special/celebratory meal, rather than a regular meal out.

My wife and I went to San Carlo for a meal to celebrate 6 months of marriage and had a fantastic time. We had a 3 course meal, followed by a digestif and it was sublime. The size of each course was ideal and it was all really good quality and well prepared food. Although the restaurant is quite expensive, we felt that it was good value and worth every penny. The service was great and we felt well looked after throughout our time there. Every waiter who spoke to us was polite, friendly and made us feel at home - including some light conversation and small talk, which was enjoyable. One small criticism could be that we didn't have one set waiter for the table... This meant that while we were taking a break before choosing desserts, we were asked by 3-4 people whether we would like dessert (only a small issue and it really didn't bother us at all, but I know that other people may find that irritating) I would highly recommend visiting San Carlo if you want a good quality evening out :) Thank you all for a fantastic time! P.S. Their almond cake is sensational.

I'm somewhat disappointed with the Menu offered to me. I dined as part of a small group from our dental practice for our Christmas Meal on Saturday 14th December. I'm a Vegan. There was no choice, the starter was Grilled Vegetables, it was a good portion size - occupying the whole plate but it was served cold. The main meal was Mushroom Risotto which was a smaller portion than the starter, warm and much tastier but not a single veg in site! My carnivorous colleagues had a full plate of veg with their chicken and fish. My 'Vegan Dessert' was a slice of chocolate cake and 1 strawberry cut in to two - it was very dry.

Quite a large restaurant over two floors. Decor is showing it's age but still very pleasant. Staff are actually Italian definitely know their stuff, and are friendly. On the night we went they were having a few problems with the lights but they still found time to talk to us. The food was very good, and reasonable value for money. I would say that the wine wasn't so great and pretty pricey too. £20 for a fairly ordinary bottle of rose Pinot Grigio seems a little excessive to me. Overall though a very pleasant experience, would go again.

This was a really lucky find and would of got 5 star if the service was better. Helpful with the gluten free and had a vast menu. But the poor couple sitting next to us had to wait a good 30 mins just to place a drinks order and 20 mins later they still hadn't ordered food. Absolutely the best Italian Food in Leicester This has to honestly the best place to eat Italian Food in Leicester, As us being Vegetarian, the food was brilliant, very quick, value for money, We never order any drinks, as these are expensive even for soft drinks, and brings the bill high, so we just order a jug of water. The garlic bread with cheese and the Pizza was excellent, reminds us of a Italian restaurant we use to go in London. If you are Vegetarian, we highly recommend the Melanzane al Forno, (baked layers of Sicilian aubergine, with parmesan cheese and tomato), the whole bill came to £27.00, for a starter and 3 mains courses, Will always go once a month.

They constantly came and asked us whether we wanted to order the next course, when it was very clear that we were chatting and drinking our (very expensive) bottle of wine. The waiters kept reaching across in front of us to fill our glasses when we were talking. It seemed that they wanted to get us to order more drink, and to order more food, in order to extract as much money from us in as short a time as possible. This was not just one waiter, but LOTS of waiters! Ironically, once we'd called for the bill they left us alone. And they added 10% to the bill for service. It's such a shame, because the food is really very good.

When I last went the service was ok, the restaurant felt quite crowded (and very noisy) when it got busy, and food was fairly mediocre Italian-esque. Although I confess that I've eaten a lot of Italian food in my time. I enjoyed eating there but I found it a bit pricey for Leicester. I'd expect to pay these prices further south. .

We went as part of the Big Eat promotion, so got 2 for 1 on main meals. For starters we had a small portion of pasta, & garlic mushrooms. Both were ok, but perhaps nothing special. For the mains we had a pizza, which we felt was comparable to other Italian restaurants in Leicester, and the tagliatelle Montecarlo (monkfish in a cream & tomato sauce) that was really very tasty. Portions were generous and we were certainly very full after our meals! Service was ok, although we waited quite a while for our main course plates to be cleared, and in the end had to request the bill. The tables are quite close together, so I imagine that if the restaurant were full it might be a little uncomfortable. So on the whole it was a good meal out; I wouldn't not recommend it. However there are lots of other Italian restaurants in Leicester all doing a similarly decent job.
