4.5 stars. Very very nice fresh Italian food. Located half way between Camden town and Kentish town tube stations on the Northern line. I was a little worried from the street but inside was nice and there is even an outdoor section. Food was well presented (see photos) and delicious. Service was friendly. A touch on the expensive side as it was £70 without alcohol but byo is available. Price justified by the quality of food. Happily recommend.

This is the best restaurant i've been to in ages!!!!!!
The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. Prices were decent, for that food I would have paid more!
Fresh food and the waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!

Visited again today, found some delicious new additions to the menu. Worth trying the fois gras with pickled blackberries, and the fregola (a Sicilian specialty) with mussels and crab. All pasta and bread is made on site, delicious! Cash only and BYO.
Previously...Oct 2021: A very enjoyable evening, nice people and excellent food. The menu changes slightly week to week, and over several months we've tasted, or watched with envy most dishes. For starters the traditional italian dishes are all excellent but venture to the scallops gratin, or cod and zucchini. Pasta is made in the restaurant, the ravioli with cherry tomatoes is delicious, but honestly all the offerings are excellent. Last night I had the swordfish which was new, and delicious. Good selection of Italian desserts. Its BYO, so you can bring something extra nice to compliment the high quality of food. Note its cash only. We will be going again.
A. P.
BYOB even for soft drinks and cash payment only! Not the nicest looking or atmospheric restaurant. The food was fine, if a bit expensive for what and where it was being served.

This place is truly a gem! They don't go in for decor but everything on the menu is truly delicious.. and the staff are a delight. Love the bread they give you to start and the pappardelle with ragu is my personal fave dish.
H.
I was truly surprised, amazing quality food. Will start bringing my guests here for dinner.
P. M.
Amazing place, my favourite restaurant in London. Great service, incredible food. I can't recommend it enough.
Z. L.
What more is there to say? This place is amazing and for the money you'd be hard pressed to find a better meal anywhere in London 🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯

Hands down the best Italian food I have ever eaten. Absolutely outstanding, every course. Stunningly beautiful. And incredibly lovely staff. Can’t wait to come back.
P. C.
Wowza! What a place! Unbelievably nice cafe style resto serving Michelin style food for cheaps! #donotmiss

This is a real gem in Kentish town. Excellent food, friendly service and relaxing atmosphere. I cannot recommend it more. One of my all time favourites.
J. S.
Restaurants are primarily about food and that is why 5 stars! Location, environment and comfort might put you off but don't let it as this tiny restaurant's staff more than make up for any perceived shortfalls. Bring your own wine (no corkage) and cash only so don't say you were not warned!
J. L.
Really good Italian food at very low prices.
Its difficult to be restrained.
And the home made gelato is some of the best in London
K. S.
Absolute brilliant food and service.. thanks again. X
E. s.
Absolutely fabulous. Have been coming here for 7 years and it is as excellent as it ever was. It is completely unsuspecting but the food, especially the pasta, is phenomenal! Can't recommend this enough if you can get a book and don't forget that it is BYOB!
N. T.
Simply amazing food and extremely kind cooks and waiters.
Y. W.
Food was of top quality if not top top, ice cream/sorbet is a must try. Luckily both our starters and mains were served quickly after we ordered, did not need to wait for too long as some of the comments have mentioned - but have to say not the best service we have ever received. And you can only pay in cash too - for us two the total bill was 67.5 whereas an extra 12.5% service charge was added on top of it, realised that we were overcharged(67.5 before service, 80 after service) after walking out. But overall quite nice experience and would recommend their food.
R. T.
The place seems a family-run, cheap Italian trattoria, like it or not, but the food served for dinner is outstanding, in term of choices on the menu, taste and look. One of the very few places in London where you don't feel they ripped you off.
As a plus, you have to bring the wine yourself!
A. j.
The best Italian food outside of Italy, staff are lovely, great atmosphere. Warm patio heaters and covering for outside dining, hope to be back soon!
S. W.
Food & service is always fantastic
Book a few weeks in advance to get a table
S. L.
oh my god, what a great restaurant! I count the days until I can go back here
a. l.
Fab Italian food in an unassuming environment. Byo too which is a bonus. Hardest thing is getting a booking.
H. J. B.
This place exceeded all expectations. Food is absolutely delicious and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. Fave place I've been to in London!
A. S.
Amazing dinner and super lovely service. They put heart and soul in everything they do. Highly recommended, it's well worth.
N. E.
Absolutely wonderfull ... The food is great and of top quality. Service is wonderful and what else to say about the ice cream than : YUMMY ! Don't forget to visit their shop next door !
G. G.
This place is an absolute gem. The food is magical and there are so many options. The atmosphere is great and the staff are so friendly. Brilliant
A. P.
Like everyone else here, I didn't want to write a review because this is such a hidden gem but the people here deserve all the praise + more. Everything here is INCREDIBLE - from the food to the waitstaff and everything in-between. This is the best Italian food in London and better than any food I had in Italy. Go at your own risk as nothing else will compare.
T. O.
Honestly best italian I've had in London!
m. v.
This place is simply amazing.... Proper home cooked and fresh Italian food and you will be hard stretched to find a better quality anywhere else.
Been there now several times and will keep coming back. Lunch is amazing as its much easier to get a table. Our kids love the food there as well
m. v. l.
This places serves delicious pasta, and has even better members of staff. The two waiters that served us were so nice and friendly. I had the truffle past which was really good, but I regretted not going for the pasta with broccoli and anchovies. Next time I'll go for that 😊
T. C.
Unfortunately I forgot to rate this closer to the time BUT the food was great. I remember arriving for the last order and enjoying a starter and meal in a very intimate environment. It's not the cheapest Italian food but this is not your average place. It's boutique, delicious but affordable.
M. K.
Beautiful food although it was terribly slow. Arrived at 8:15, main arrived at 10:20. Kitchen is too small for the extended restaurant space. Food was delicious but very small portions - the parmigiana was smaller than half a tennis ball. Quality good though and lovely staff
E. P.
Just wow! The food was stunning and the service was truly authentic and second to none. What an utterly delightful hidden gem.
R. S.
It doesn't get any better than this. Great food and excellent service. An absolute gem of a restaurant.
A. P.
So unassuming, it's an ice cream parlour! And yet the food is absolutely delicious. A wonderful surprise and well worth the visit.

Had an amazing birthday dinner, everything was perfect. Can't wait to come back soon - my favourite neighbourhood restaurant :)
J. D.
Amazing Italian food, scallops are strongly recommended.
A. D. B.
Authentic Italian! Delicious food and super friendly staff! I am an Italian in London and I can tell that this is almost certainly one of the best Italian restaurants that I've tried so far.
j. u.
Lovely food at a great price. With warm atmosphere and bring your own bottle. Would highly recommend
F. Z.
Wonderful way to spend our anniversary. Super attentive and friendly staff who genuinely love what they do. Our new go to restaurant for special dinners. Thank you so much :)
R. T.
insanely good .. don't be fooled by the location or the simple atmosphere .. this is a celebration of authentic food prepared with subtlety and finesse by a kitchen that properly cares .. good luck getting a table
R. C.
Such an unassuming exterior, but don't be fooled.
Outstanding food. Good price. Incredibly personable service and unbeliaveably passionate about what they do.
Definitely one of London's hidden gems.
J. B.
Absolutely brilliant! I genuinely don't have enough superlatives to talk about this place. The food is spectacular and making a decision on what to have was really hard as everything looked fantastic. Our waiter was really passionate about the food and took care to explain each one and what made it unique. I also love that the restaurant doesn't feel stuffy... It genuinely feels like a place that the chef, the staff and the whole team just want to make people relax and have a great meal. It being BYO is the cherry on top as we could bring really nice wine and not worry. Getting a booking is difficult but so so worth it. Grazie to the whole team.... What a wonderful meal!
W. H.
Such a lovely, no frills byob Italian with delightful service, superb food and amazing price!
D. S.
Had a amazing birthday meal here. Loved the passionate explanation of the menu. All six dishes we had were beautiful. Don't mind paying for quality, especially when it's BYOB
N. D.
Without doubt the best Italian restaurant I have been to. With imagination and great company, you would think you were dining in Italy! Everyone there is warm and friendly. Enjoy!
T. M.
Very simple, hidden place. The food is mindblowingly good. Great service as well.
L. D.
Wonderful food + BYOB. Careful: cash only. Super staff
A. P.
Wonderful menu, cooking with passion and care.
Quite sublime, don't tell anyone!
L. B.
Great tasty food. Place is tiny though and don't forget go bring your own wine
d. r.
The food is just incredible as is the service. Highly recommended by actual Italians and byo booze always helps to keep the bill down.
R. S.
The food was magnificent! The waiter gave us a menu then proceeded to explain the whole thing in great detail and at high speed, which was very good of him, but not the easiest for me to take in after a bottle of merlot.
W. W.
We enjoyed the food a lot! So looking forward to going back and try other dishes!
C. T.
Great hidden Italian restaurant ! Pasta was fantastic and the staff very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend giving this place a try if your in the mood for homemade pasta and delicious unique italian fair.
Fyi: this place is cash only and if you want and you will need to bring your own
B. B.
Very good food, atmosphere and service.
G. S.
I love the food in Anima e Cuore. Am awesome fine cusine in a friendly environment, not that expensive. Fantastic quality!
S. M.
We are living just around the corner for last three years and now that we finally went there I want to slap myself. Unassuming interior hides one of the best meals I had lately. Food was tasty and beautifully presented but desserts were stars of the evening. I cannot say enough of good things for the place. Bring your favourite wine and enjoy the evening!
J. B.
Food is the best food you'll have eaten in a while. I recommend getting a starter and then a main. Don't be afraid to ask them to take you through any dish you're not sure about, they are very knowledgeable. Difficult to get hold of them by phone so only really worth going in and asking to book a table although usually they're quite full. It's BYO bottle. The scallops are incredible!
L. B.
We had a fabulous meal here. Everything from the starters to desserts were superb.
A. D.
Highly skilled and super friendly staff that's absolutely passionate about food! As good as it gets
D. V.
Amazing food, Italian classics with innovative twists and very well presented. Good service. The staff is very nice and helpful. The place is tiny but they are expanding. Unfortunately it is cash only at the moment. Bring your own booze allows to save money on alcohol (and there is a great deli next door selling very good Italian wine at a good price. The place can be a bit noisy so I hope they will add some decorations to reduce the noise reverberating.
M. J.
Incredible Italian food with fantastically friendly service - a firm favorite.
S. V.
What a great find! SUPER friendly staff, very good prices and such a good ice cream! Big selection of fruit sorbets with real fruit flavour. You rarely find this quality of ice cream in London. Thanks to all the team for creating this place, keep up this great work ❤️
F. L. N.
An amazing surprise ..
K. B.
Just had the most amazing meal with such friendly people serving us! Don't know why there are a few negative reviews for this gorgeous little restaurant, I'm sorry you guys didn't have the wonderful time we just did. The pasta was incredible, so fresh, the desserts were sensational. BYOB is perfect as a newsagent with a good wine selection next door. Had such a great evening!
H. A.
Very good ice cream. My daughter like to visit here very much
i. r.
Go for the food, its wonderful- and byob keeps the bill down.
What a great place
R. W.
Delicious ice cream and desserts, very friendly staff. Difficult to reserve a table in advance as they don't seem to answer the phone and are often booked solid anyhow.
R. D.
Best pasta I've ever had! People are lovely and food is amazing
S. M.
Great place, would recommend highly, and BYO !Great food, great service, go and enjoy...
C. D. G.
Very nice staff, amazing customer service, good food.
K. J.
Not much to look at from the outside, this hidden gem turns out the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy at extremely reasonable prices. Delicious, inventive, beautifully presented food. A must visit!
N. B.
Fantastic food and service, for a very good price
J. L.
An absolute gem. I couldn't have imagined there was a place like this in London. It looks like a little cafe/ice cream shop but it's an outstanding Italian restaurant.
The food is seriously delicious. We had the scallops and beef tartare to start (both unbelievable) and pasta for mains. They make the pasta from scratch right there in front of you and it's the real deal.
The fact that it's BYOB and they don't charge corkage is just amazing.
The service was also impeccable, they presented the dishes with true knowledge and passion and served our food very quickly.
New favourite. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
K. P.
Truly exceptional. Best place I've eaten for a while.
R. B.
I probably wouldn't have gone to this restaurant without reading an exceptional review in Time out magazine. From the outside it looks like any other cafe in London, nothing wrong with it but nothing special.
Boy did this place teach me not to judge a restaurant at first glance. I can honestly say that the food that I ate here was some of the best food I have ever had in my entire life.
By day it is ran as a cafe, by night a restaurant opens up in the back room. The decor is unimpressive but ignore your surroundings, it is all about the food here.
The menu is read to you by one of the Chefs, he speaks quite quickly but don't be afraid to ask him to repeat and explain. He is so passionate about his food and will carefully explain everything to you.
There about 4 starters and 4 mains to choose from, it was so hard to choose so we all picked a dish each so we could try everything and we couldn't find fault with any of it, pure perfection.
Crab with squid ink linguine, slow cooked rib of beef, sea bass with prawns and a celeriac velouté, I could go on. Each dish was so well balanced and made with love, you can see and taste the love.
Make sure you save you room to try the homemade ice-cream, it's too good to be true.
Anima E Cuore is a BYOB (we love a BYOB), and the food is very well priced so it is very good value. Four of us had 3 courses each and the bill come £100. You cannot beat this in London for the quality of food.
This is my new favourite place to eat and we will be back again soon!
R. G.
From the outside you wouldn't give this place much, and you have to bring your own wine (pro tip: there's a cheap off license next to it), but the staff is friendly, the atmosphere like the one of an (Italian) family lunch and the food astounding. They've got something like 15 starters and 15 mains and the moment you hear about them you know you'll want to try them all. Be prepared to return multiple times after your first visit...
B. C.
Small restaurant and hard to get a table but simply amazing, authentic Italian food. It is also bring-your-own wine, and no corkage charge.
S. R.
Mindblowingly amazing food. Wonderful service. Loved it!
A. W.
Had an ice cream here and it was one of the best in the area. Definitely worth trying!
V. C.
The little hidden Italian gem of Kentish Town. Literally one of the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. Truly high quality products and sophisticated gastronomy.
L. H. C.
It was a lovely service, tasty and creative dishes.
S. M.
the best italian food I ever had!
L. S.
Simply the best. I’ve never enjoyed an Italian meal - maybe any meal! - as much. Only problem was waddling Home afterwards
T. M.
Outstanding, delicious food! Brilliant and friendly staff!!
B. B.
Great food, good value, byo
K. B.
Lovely to see that the restaurant has reopened because it is one my favourites. Love their new outdoor eating space and of course, the BYOB element makes it a very affordable evening out. Starter are delicious, beautifully presented and flavourful. We were a little disappointed with our pasta mains - at £17 a dish I expected it to be better. My truffle pasta was very watery, not very creamy. And my partners seafood pasta lacked much seafood and flavour. However, this could be a one-off and I hope the pasta mains improve to match the rest of the enjoyable experience that is visiting anima e cuore.
R. H.
I have tried home-made pasta and gelato at Anima E Cuore and it is extremely delicious. I would highly recommend paying them a visit if you are interested in authentic Italian food.
C. B.
Best pastas ever in London! OMG !! Worth totally the price and you can bring your own alcohol 😉
G. C.
Waiters were very friendly and helpful. Small space made very noisy by one table of loud people. Obviously a risk given size and narrow space (but in the process of expanding). Enjoyable but not as good as many reviews suggest. Pasta a little short of al dente. Desserts and starters best.
A.
Tiny family run Italian restaurant with incredible pasta dishes. The waiter read us the whole menu while giving explanations and recommendations. Love that it's also BYOB so you can bring along a very nice bottle of wine. Already planning to go back.
N. C.
Beautiful Italian food freshly made served with a smile
D. P.
Extraordinary food, beautifully simple, wonderfully pleasing.
A place to go again and again.
E. K.
Proper Italian homemade food that you'll love. The pasta is fresh and delicious and the gelato mouthwatering. Decent prices and nice staff too.
R. G.
Great restaurant. Wonderful people!
P. R.
Amazing pasta!
M. R.
Best beef tatare ever. And loved being able to bring my own wine.
D. A.
Mixed feelings, you will enjoy excellent food and average service, in a purposely unflattering space... Kentish Town deserves better!
K. G.
My favourite restaurant in London..and I'd consider myself a foodie! No frills, bring your own alcohol (no corkage), focus is on the food and the people you're eating it with. The staff are part of the family, do knowledgeable and friendly. If you can't get a table, just pick up some outrageously good gelati and sorbet and eat it on the way to the bus stop. This is not a normal restaurant, it's way better.
T. T.
It's not often I give 5 stars... has to be somewhere special, and Anima E Cuore is just that. A small, neighbourhood Italian restaurant. It has a limited menu that it does very well. The food was excellent. The two guys running it do cooking and serving so you get the lowdown on each dish. Also, they insisted we arrive at 7:15pm, not 7pm, yet it was not full. Clearly they stagger meal times so they are not overwhelmed and can give the required attention to cooking and serving. Oh, and they have no licence so BYO... the corkage charge is zero (I kid you not).
W. R.
I have Italian friends who consider this to be the best Italian food in London. As a Neapolitan place, it's cash only. And BYO!
T. R.
Incredible and unusual little Italian with a cute yard for alfresco dining
j. s.
An Italian jewel in the dust bowl of Kentish town. Do not miss it if you have the chance. Your palate won't forgive you!
D. T.
Fantastic food but small space!
G. T.
The "soul and heart" of fine Italian cuisine finds itself exquisitely expressed in this modest setting, in humble Kentish Town. The chef, food and serving staff are all superstars. I think of the love of food expressed in the 1996 film Big Night. Anytime I walk by, I am likely to see the chef through the window, turning the crank to press sheets of the freshest pasta ever.
R. P.
Not much to look at, but the most passionate chef making some of the best Italian food you'll find in the city. Don't judge a book by it's cover and you'll be in for a treat. Save a little room for the panna cotta.
V. W.
I’m so angry that we’ve only just discovered Anima E Cuore!! We’ve lived in Kentish Town for around 4 years and I can honestly say we will be coming here regularly, from now on, ideally once a week! The food is fantastic, absolutely outstanding fresh pasta, beautifully crafted desserts, all homemade including the ice cream. The staff are passionate and knowledgeable about all their ingredients - we felt like we were in Italy. Don’t expect comfort or frills, it feels like you’re in someone’s living room, completely unassuming, but would eat their daily if it didn’t mean I would become completely obese!! The truffle pasta was just perfect - I can’t even. Thank you!!!
L. H.
Fantastic homemade ravioli and incredible homemade pistachio ice cream!
A. A.
Great value for money. Friendly service.
J. W.
Excellent meal prepared with flair and creativity.
L. O.
My favourite Italian in London. A quaint family run business with massive attention to detail. The food is exquisite and covers many different regional dishes from Italy. The portions are ample and prices are reasonable for the level of food and skill each dish is made with.
One of the chefs will come and explain the menu and then you sit back and relax.
It’s bring your own and table water is free.
I can’t get enough for it! Go now!
P. S.
