Reviews of Franco's
J. B.
Great service, fantastic wine list, knowledgeable caring staff, and great food (both to look at and to eat)! Highly recommended for lunch or dinner in St James!
a. b.
Food was very good and waiter was very helpful in explaining items which I wasn’t sure on. Well presented and staff were attentive and welcoming. Would recommend.
E. P.
Good Italian restaurant on Jermyn Street, with classic dishes including pasta, grilled meat and fish. Prices are expensive, which you expect for this type of restaurant in its location. Main issue of the evening was the very rushed service, with constant requests for food orders before we had chance to even review the menu. The staff were packing tables and chairs away around us at 10.30pm on a Saturday night, clearly wanting to close up and go home. Not sure I will rush back.
A. F.
Steak with the foie gras, crispy bread and spinach was one of the most unique and best steaks I’ve ever had. Waiter provided a nice backstory to how the chef came up with it. Waiter was also nice enough to update my order after the table next to me recommended it (originally ordered pasta). Service was impeccable. Delicious whiskey sours and Italian wine too.
A. S.
This is our favourite Italian restaurant in central London, where good Italian food is guaranteed.
M. W.
Delicious dinner to tuck into. Attentive service and cozy atmosphere. Reservations are a must and can be made through their website!
T. S.
I hadn't been to Franco's for over ten years until my recent visit but was glad to be invited back. It reminded me of why I used to love it. Great food and a great atmosphere, with attentive (but not over attentive) staff.
I will be back in the New Year.
J. H.
Deliciously hearty yet delicate food, great beer and perfect service. Will be back
W. A.
Good food. Nice setting. Terrible service. Not a troll just not a customer that likes to be looked down at by a waiter for “only” ordering a 60£ wine. Won’t be coming back 😂😂😂
A. S. D.
One of our most liked Italian restaurants in London, superb waiters, wonderful food and a variety of it. Always a great experience wether for lunch or dinner equally. Beautiful atmosphere and in particular I appreciate that some of the waiters are actually Italian, so you can speak the language. Great that the restaurant survived the lock-down and is open again. One has to book well ahead because I am not the only one who likes it and it seems with the current post Covid situation, not so many restaurants are actually open in the West end. Always a delight to have a meal there, they have also a very nice wine and champagne selection.
R. F.
First of all, I am a genuine customer and not a troll! The food was generally good. However the attitude of some of the staff let it down. It seems the regulars get preferential treatment. Some of the staff have a surly attitude. We were totally ignored when we were ready to order dessert. We left with a bad taste in our mouths....not from the food, but from some of the staff!
J. C.
Apparently the oldest Italian in London? I wonder how I have never to been to this jewel before. The pumpkin gnocchi is one of the best pasta dishes I have had in a while.
D. P.
High quality food, good service, conveniently located in Jermyn St, parallel to Piccadilly. Also good for a coffee and catch up with friends. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.
S. M.
I honestly could not be more impressed with this restaurant. We called yesterday afternoon to see if they had a last minute table available and they managed to squeeze us in for an outdoor table. The service was impeccable. The food was quite possibly the best I have had in London for many years. The starters were a combination of stunning simple ingredients and perfect execution. The lobster pasta was out of this world and is surely the best in London. The deserts were as good as the rest of the food and the wine list was very fairly priced. I honestly could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. Best thing to do is go yourself and see how wonderful it is!
H. H.
We visited Franco’s for our anniversary and the service was perfect from Garry particularly, he helped me with the wine selection and was very helpful with choosing the courses. The food was great and my Negroni was the best I’ve had in a while. Only thing was the door staff wasn’t very friendly but it was a great experience nonetheless.
E.
Very nice place, perfect-professional service, friendly staff and amaizing food on the top. Great selection of wines.
Thanks You guys!
K. M.
Had a superb breakfast in this venerable Italian restaurant. Everything looked and tasted great and service was outstanding!
S. T.
This restaurant is a must if you're looking for a full English breakfast in elegant surroundings, and you just happen to be in Piccadilly. Their brunch menu meant that we could still enjoy a delicious breakfast at 11:00, when other establishments nearby had stopped serving. Offering excellent food with impeccable service in a truly civilised setting, this is the place to consider, especially if you crave crispy table linen and full attention to detail. Well done Franco's!
A. A.
Just incredible. Came here for my birthday. Everything was perfect. I really recommend the house red and the ravioli.
A. F. (. i. t. K.
Elegant, friendly service and wonderful food. This great tradition lives up to its name. The pappardelle lamb ragout was simply perfect, the lamb melted in the mouth. The opportunity to sit outside to watch the world go by in Jermyn Street is a pleasure in itself. There is a seriously good cigar shop opposite. Grab a fat Havana and enjoy it under the awning as you sip on their excellent selection of wines. Looking forward to my next visit.
P. D.
Great food fabulous service. High quality from start to finish.
I. J.
Sicilian restaurant, can’t miss the cannoli with pistachio ice cream then. The cannoli has lemon flavour which was special but I prefer the original cream. 🧡The ragu pasta was made with a special Sicilians type of pasta, but my memory failed me on the name. It blended perfectly with ragu. 🐟 Fresh sea foods, can’t go wrong with fish in this place. 🎨Many art pieces in the restaurant.
R. N.
An old favourite, but perhaps trying to cash in by squeezing in a few too many tables making it very noisy at peak times. Food good and starter portions large but they tried to overcharge me for the wine which was a bit upsetting
O. O.
Nice Italian restaurant, cafe style atmosphere and friendly staff
M.
The whole experience was worthwhile and would come again. Service was on point. Pasta was a little salty, made up for in the desserts
C.
Franco's is a great little spot. I personally enjoy grabbing their Eggs Royale with a little something from across the street.
M. F.
Very good food and good service. I highly recommend if you are looking for some Italian taste in London.
C. P.
Brilliant meal at Franco’s not cheap but always excellent
Z. H. R.
Excelent Italian food, sat outside, realy nice. Great service, highly recommend
C. S. M.
Amazing delicious pastry.
Very agréable environment.
Service is fast and client focus, attentive and nice .
Highly recommended.
J. G.
Frendly service, gave my son a lolly for free which he was very happy about. Great place to have a tea and a bite
c. h.
Very good food and professional and friendly service.
D. J. (.
Amazing food, excellent service. Worth a visit. Looked it.
J.
Great venue and food, superb service and the coffee is incredible.
J. K.
Nicely located in Mayfair with elegant setting and attentive professional staff. Food and wine reasonably priced, and it was very delicious. Highly recommended
M. M.
Bit overpriced, food nothing special, nice enough but there's plenty better.
C. F.
This has been one of my go-to restaurants in London, since 2005. I try, whenever the schedule allows it, to have at least a lunch here when I am in London. Food and wine is always great. Great value for money. Staff always professional. Will be back again end of March!!
W. F.
Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Extensive menu and huge wine list. Food was very good although some of the portion sizes (e.g. Pasta dishes) were a little smaller than expected.
All round a great evening and our group felt very well looked after.
D. D.
Excellent service. Really nice food and wine.
A. D.
Great staff, excellent food. A great place for a lunch meeting.
K. S.
Quick, efficient and polite. Good coffee and mushroom omelette at a pavement table.
B. W.
I found my pasta to be perfectly cooked and the staff charming and friendly. A worthwhile visit and one to remember for my continued trips to the old smoke
G.
If you like top end restaurants ,this maybe for you.
I can't fault it,maitre de a bit stuffy other wise ok.
Possibly better if you're a regular and you have a rapport with them.
K. A.
Went here for friends birthday meal and I must say the service we received was amazing. The food was lovely too, very tasty and the staff were always there to help. I thought the price was expensive but I must say the service compensate for it!
P. S.
One of the best breakfasts I’ve had to date. A wide variety of options including vegetarian and gluten free, and dairy milk alternatives for your hot drinks. It has a nice casual ambience too.
A. W.
Enjoyed a superb breakfast here
Next time we are looking forward to an evening meal post COVID
C. E.
Homemade pasta dishes are succulent and the seafood dishes were excellent. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a warm vibe, it feels like in you are sitting in cafe but the surroundings are classy. Make sure you use the washrooms and listen to narration extracts of Winnie the Pooh :) So cute!
T. S.
Excellent little place full of character. Breakfast is fantastic, the fresh squeezed orange juice sweet and cool and the baked English breakfast hearty, but vaguely healthy as it's not cooked in oil or butter. The only downside was service was a bit slow, and we had to order the same coffee a few times, but it's a busy place. Also at the pricier end, but what do you expect in Mayfair?
T. L.
A fantastic restaurant with great service. It isn't cheap - £5 for orange juice and £5 for filter coffee, but it's excellent quality and fresh as anything! The staff are great and the setting is beautiful too.
C. N.
Wonderful little restaurant. Delightful staff (friendly, courteous, knowledgeable), great ambience, fantastic food (we had crab fusilli, lamb shanks, and Zuppa Inglese, all of which were absolutely delicious), and superb wines. We went most recently (Oct 2018) for a private dinner with 18 people, and the room they gave us was the perfect size: intimate but not crowded. I will definitely go back again soon!
M. B. I. a.
It's a fairly new place with good Sicilian wine 🍷 and food including Sicilian Canolo (cone shaped pastry with cream inside), apparently its the best or the only one of this kind in London. The food was very fresh and nicely prepared with friendly service. Asparagus with poached egg starter was good, crab 🦀 starter was great and for the main monkfish was very tasty!
R. M.
A Mayfair stalwart with old-world charm that excels in the business lunch department. Having visited a few times now, I can say the a la carte menu is strong across the board with their pasta and seafood dishes being the highlights. They also offer highly attractive specials of the day and a weekly changing set menu to maintain a level of inventiveness. Service is generally good and on point, but they do bustling trade with multiple lunch sittings, so can feel a little a rushed at times.
J. W. (. G.
great Italian lunch spot in Piccadilly area of London
H. S.
All time favorite. Deserves all the stars. I went there on a Friday night win my bf and the food was amazing. Very attentive service. Nice dessert. Good beverage selection. I have been here a lot for dinner and lunches. And will come back again soon. Love it !
J. G.
Very stylish and elegant Italian; the staff are polite and charming and the food really very excellent. Thoroughly enjoyable evening meal.
D. M.
The food was delicious but we left with a bad taste about a certain part of the evening. A waiter randomly came up to us after we ordered our food, showed us a new cheese that had ‘just arrived’ and asked us if we wanted to try it, which we assumed would be complementary given the ad hoc nature of the offer. No mention that it would be £10 added to the bill, so I was disappointed in that tactic.
J. P. M.
Overpriced: main courses priced £30-40 should be special - the food was just 'good'. You can pay these prices at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and the food would be on another level. Service attentive and polite
F. F.
Great traditional Italian restaurant. Staff that looked after us were very pleasant and knew their menu and what to suggest. Only Italian I have ever been to that we didn't get a thankyou drink at the end of the meal such as a limoncello. Very comfortable seating in good ambience even if tables a little close. My food was well prepared and looked good as well.yes I would recommend
T. M. M.
Lively atmosphere and good service
A. C.
Believed to be the 1st Italian restaurant in London. Across it's 70+ years of business Franco's has grown a strong fan base within the local St. James's community.
A very romantic dining room with some utterly excellent dishes on offer.
Their fresh pastas are truly delicious and the menu is updated regularly to make best use of seasonally available ingredients.
J. G.
Highly recommend Francos. I book a table here several times a week usually for breakfast and even when they haven't been able to take the reservation, they've still been able to help me when I turned up. The service and staff are impeccable, discreet and highly professional. The food is cooked perfectly and tastes amazing. Only shocker, almost every time I eat here, is the price; but for a bit of ambience and some of the best service in London, you should definitely try Francos.
J. K.
A proper European welcome. Great food, great service. Whilst a bit pricey, not unreasonable for the posh location and you simply can't fault the service and quality. Love the place.
S. A.
Excellent food even with the set menu as we took the Opentable offer. The waiters are very courteous and made sure that we would leave on time for our show. Can be a bit pricey when not on the offer.
J. C.
Tucked away in Jermyn Street, and quality Italian restaurant. Great wine selection and quality food. Tirimisu as it should be, delightful grappa. Seamless service team who all seemed to originate in Italy!
R. W.
Had a lovely meal here tonight. Service brilliant. Would definitely go back. Actually the whole evening was the result of winning a competition on Radio Jackie! We were treated so well. Thank you
D. K.
Fantastic place, delicious Italian food, very polite and attentive staff. One of the best Italian restaurants in London. Special mention to the maitre, Ainsley Clark. Will visit again!
M. T.
Great service, food & wine
J. D.
Have not eaten here. But they are gentlemen. After needing relief we walked pas mr the Ritz hotel who refused entry to use their facilities. Francos welcomed us in. I will in the future dine here , class establishment.
C. E.
We sat outside at a nice weather to have a cigar. It is located centrally and alongside Gentlemen's stores as well as cost shops. You can bring and enjoy your own cigar as well.
J. C.
Quality Italian restaurant in St James. First course: octopus carpaccio and beef carpaccio. I was satisfied with the beef, excellent portion size. Partner unimpressed with the octopus, small portion and mostly garnish. For the main a half rack of lamb with aubergine puree and stewed peppers: excellent cut, peppers cooked well and not too watery, very tasty. £4.50 for a side spinach on a tiny plate and another £4.50 for still water is ridiculous. If eating on the set menu avoid sides, it nullifies the set menu value. 12.5% service charge is fine as the service here is among the best in London.
T. E.
It’s always a life affirming pleasure to dine at Franco’s. Perfect table settings, delicious freshly baked Italian breads, exquisite lobster linguini and freshly filled ricotta cannoli which keeps the shell crisp. The service is friendly and professional. La doce vita!
P. A.
simply the best - food, service, atmosphere all first class. especially like the fact that portion sizes are sensible. i.e. normal not miniscule
A. L.
Excellent reception and serving staff, good service, good value food, Italian with a French atmosphere, passed it by many times but have been 3 times in 2 days and will make it a regular. Good decor also!!
B. M.
Posh-establishment, more so a brasserie/cafe on mornings and middays. Place for double-breasted suits and eloquent conversations - the prices are high accordingly.
Tip: Get a cigar or cigarillo (if you are not quite the smoker) from just the other side of the street (Davidoff) and sit out here in style watching the crowds go by!
D. B.
Very good but pricy. Good service, pleasant waiter, good food. Decor quite nice and true Italian restaurant. But still quite expensive.
J. H.
I went for lunch to this upmarket Italian restaurant in St. James's which attracts the sort of well heeled (and well dressed) crowd you'd hope to find on Jermyn Street. Service was very good from the outset - very efficient and attentive without being aloof. My main course was definitely the highlight - pappardelle with wild mushrooms and black truffle. A great dish for mycophiles - the wild mushrooms really were wild mushrooms (a mixture of porcini and girolles, plus possibly some others) with a decent amount of black truffle shavings on top. The truffle flavour was very evident, the pasta had great texture, and the whole dish was very well seasoned. My only slight criticism was that the tables were packed quite closely together and it was a bit loud.
O. N.
Highly priced, but a good coffee in a fantastic location.
T. H.
Romantic and sophisticated sharing with my favourite man very bright on lighting mo chance to grab kiss it's too bright .
G. F.
Amazing pizza and really good customer service, the staff is very friendly and helpful, not expensive at all for the quality of what you get, for sure I will come back there soon. Thank you Franco!
T. R.
Franco's is what I consider the perfect place for an Italian lunch. Friendly and professional staff and food that is perfectly cooked. I love it.
M. L.
Good food, but service could be better. A bit pricey. After reading reviews I expected a bit more.
J. A.
Luxurious place to grab a bite to eat or its really a nice outdoor location to smoke cigars at. It is pricey but you pay for what you get.

Food was good, not exceptional; wines very expensive. Staff were friendly and helpful. I feel it is overpriced.
M. R.
good food, amazing people, always welcome you with big smile,
A. B.
Good ambience and solid service. Prices are expensive but this place is more for the bankers and PE guys in the area rather than for the tourists. Great place for a coffee or business lunch.
G. B.
Great Italian, quality food, pleasant ambience......dodgy face masks!
A. C.
Very attentive. Great food. Portions could be better. I don't mind paying a bit more. The carpaccio was a joke

Nice food and atmosphere but expect to pay for it. £6 for a bottle of water seems excessive!
J. W.
Not cheap. But you get what you pay for. Not just lunch or dinner but an experience to savour along with the food. Food and service second to none.

We come back to this restaurant every time we are in London and this was the most memorable occasion. The food was absolutely amazing and the wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Our waiter Lorenzo was a real hit and he made the entire dinner one of our best experiences.

Delicious & fresh Italian cuisines, amongst my all time favourite Italian restaurants. Ever more popular, early reservation has become a must. Simple interior: the food more than compensates.

(Translated) Excellent restaurant, very nice and friendly staff including Nuestra Amiga from Venezuela, the bartender and his colleague from Romania.
Very good service, fast enough, the menu is rather rich and varied.
However, the prices are the image of London, excessively expensive, 180 € for two.
