Reviews of Pappa Roma Restaurant, Pizza and Bar
A. P.
Had starters, main and dessert. All were great. The starter was nice and fresh, the main was sumptuous, and the dessert delicate. Service was very helpful picking out matching wines.
The decor is beautiful, however, the acoustics made it hard to carry a conversation with my party.

We happened upon this amazing intimate restaurant by chance and I couldn't be happier that we found it. To enter is to be transported to Italy. We started with olives, a bread basket, and bruschetta - all simple with quality ingredients. Then moved in to their award winning pizza - and the reason it's award winning becomes apparent with your 1st bite. We finished our meal with an incredible tiramisu and cafe americano. The service was attentive, but not rushed. I could not recommend Pappa Roma more!
C. L.
Amazing food and such friendly staff. Great great find in South Kensington.
Extremely good value for money given the food and the location. One exception: I ordered the Pizza di Bosco which was absolutely delicious but overpriced at nearly £20... (even if it was award winning in 2017). That being said, I finished the whole thing
Highly recommend

Wow! What an amazing find! The food was incredible and is on par with pizza that we have had in Italy. The gnocchi dish I had was the best gnocchi I have ever had. The menu was full of delicious options. The pizza my husband and eldest son had was impressively presented and the children's menu was exactly what you want at a restaurant with fresh ingredients and options that are full of flavour. The staff were brilliant, very informative and with that the restaurant had a lovely, family, wholesome atmosphere. We will be coming back and I highly recommend Pappa Roma to anyone.

Service is great and fast. Food is delicious. After a few years spent in Italy, as a picky customer (in terms of Italian cuisine) I can definitely tell that it is one of the best restaurants I have visited in the UK. Despite the restaurant is located a little bit out of the Main Street it is worth to visit it and to prefer this restaurant to other . They deserve 5 stars and even more.
T. B.
Lovely service lovely food. Amazing lasagne what more can you ask for. I will be back for pizza next time

Lovely, authentic feeling Italian eatery with a comfortable ambiance and welcoming atmosphere. The food portions were very generous, and the quality was great - feels like home cooked, high quality comfort food. The beef in the Ragu was melt in the mouth and the pasta was fresh. The aubergine parmigiana was perfection. The pizza bottom was a little soggy but it was otherwise good and very filling. The service was absolutely great, so fast, warm and friendly. The bathroom vestibule downstairs smelt unpleasant, and the bathrooms were a bit run down but it’s an old establishment I guess. Seems like there’s plenty of locals who are regulars for their meals which is always a good sign. I would definitely visit again if in the area.

We found Pappa Roma by chance whilst visiting the V&A (another great place). A great menu with lots of variety. We couldn’t fault the light and tasty Fruttura di Gamberino e Zucchini, followed by a delicious Ravioloni in casa ripieni con stracchino.. & Pappardelle Fatte in casa con Salsciccia…. All dishes were absolutely delicious. When we’re next in the area we will happily come back

Cosy place, fantastic pizza and vary nice pasta. The desserts are also vary good!!!
Great and friendly Italian staff. We will definitely will be back 💯
P. C.
Quiet, they are slightly off the beaten track near South Ken so maybe not as much passing trade as other places. Nice friendly family feel. Good food, my pumpkin and gorgonzola risotto was a little too sweet needed a bit more gorgonzola, but nice lunch.
P. K.
We came from Cardiff and some friends and regulars of pappa Roma sent us there. Very nice food, reasonably priced and a warm welcome from the owner. Highly recommended
R. 0.
Delicious, well-portioned wood fire pizza, lovely and cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. I'd give them 6 stars if I could!
S. R.
Just like mama used to make it - great family feel restaurant, food is amazing, great wine choice and really handy for the Royal Albert Hall. Would not hesitate to recommend, after visiting for the first time, we booked to return the next day!!!
a. h.
Very good pizzas at reasonable price for the area. Nice staff and service. Also very good starter oven cooked aubergine parmigiana (melanzane parmigiana)
J. N.
Such a cozy restaurant and wonderful staff. The food is amazing and the price is just right! Coming from westernized Italian pizza places, this is so much more authentic and pleasant
A. R.
Went here for a late lunch with my son and we loved it. Staff were really friendly, great with my son and made us feel welcome. The food was fantastic as well and very reasonably priced. Will very much try to return here when we're next in London.
M. G.
Such a cozy intimate setting. Great for couples or when you want to catch up with friends you haven’t seen. Our salad and pizza were both delicious. Service was attentive but not intrusive and everyone was very nice.
M. V.
A delightful find in London!
One of the best pasta dishes I have ever had!
P. J.
Amazing place, fantastic “small shop” vibe with exceptional staff. Pizza is on another level here. Love it!
C. S.
Excellent freshly cooked food using quality ingredients at a very fair price. Friendly yet professional service makes for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Strongly recommended! Christopher.
E. P.
Cleared plates all round from our meal last light. Beautiful cooking and authentic flavours. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!
M. A.
We visited London in Oct 2018 and ate here twice. The food is amazing! The restaurant is cozy and romantic. The waiters are incredibly friendly. We will come here the next time we're in London.
V. P.
Good environment, great service, good food. Go for the prawns to start. The seafood risotto is not the best, but good enough. The staff is really friendly!
T. I.
Went here for an early evening family meal based on the reviews. Wasn't disappointed, both courses were delicious. Best pizza we've had for a while, with very tasty pasta too. A lovely little taste of Italy in the heart of Kensington!
G. E.
Great location for the Science and Natural History museums. Small, nice atmosphere, warm and friendly service. Not overly expensive for the area. Now we've found a good restaurant, we know where to go from now on when we visit the museums!
We arrived at about 3pm so some of the food was gone - lasagne for example, but as the pasta and pizza dough is made freshly every day, I would rather that happened than have some frozen rubbish I could buy from the supermarket.
Great sized portion of spag-bol for our child and we were able to have our pizza put in a box to take away when we were too full!
C. P.
Came here after a long day at The Science Museum as didn't want to walk far & our son wanted pizza lol. Wasn't quite expecting to have the best pizza I've ever tasted. The staff were so lovely and accommodating, offering my son salami instead of the pepperoni has it may have been too spicy for him. I had the quattro formaggi pizza & hubby had the gnocchi, absolutely beautiful. All washed down with a great bottle of wine. Unassuming, cosy little place full of ambiance. Would HIGHLY recommend, absolutely loved it! Wish we lived closer as this would definitely become our fave spot to eat out.
F.
The pizza is average (especially the prosciutto had a strong, unusual taste to it). The lasagna, on the other hand, was superb, but quite small.
Considering they costed £13 and £11 respectively (not counting service charges), I'd recommend finding another place to have Italian food.
L. T.
I think we unfortunately visited on an unlucky night as the poor service possibly due to being understaffed maybe, let the meal down. A shame as we chose here based on the glowing reviews so hopefully it was a one off
K.
Ordered the spicy pepperoni pizza. First Italian experience, best pizza I have ever tasted!
E. K.
Lovely place to grab a bite to eat!Very centrally located, just a few minutes from South Kensington station and Hyde Park. The staff were all very friendly and pleasant, and I have to say that the service was incredibly fast!! The food was nice and the prices were fair.
T. K.
We came here for a small lunch and were lucky to have a small brunch. We shared their papa Roma pizza, with a whole Burrata cheese. Omg, it was amazing. The staff is Italians, so I loved my experience> They are friendly, and nice. I loved it, gonna come back.
R. D.
I have eaten at many stunning restaurants but have never been driven to leave a review before. I guess when you are paying top dollar you expect absolutely exquisite excellence you could never expect to replicate in your own home EVER. But this place is so small and unassuming. You would never expect to have such exceptional food served here... Better than any meal you've had before, at a real budget friendly price. But Papa Rom is absolutely delicious. You know when you eat the food and it is so tasty that you think if you died here and now it would be worth it to experience this luxury of sensations? When you decide your final meal when you reach 95 years old will be the raviola and cheesecake? When nothing else here and now even matters because its so dam tasty that nothing else even Matters? Well... this was it. Absolute perfection. I am so grateful to the chef and the staff for giving me such an incredible experience in this place. I expected nothing and you surpassed all expectations. I had an amazing experience, thank you so much you guys for providing it to me x
D. K.
We booked for a large party of 28, and we had a fantastic meal here! Everyone was catered for and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, and make sure that we had a lovely evening. Will definitely be back!
A. M.
Nice food. Great pizza! Friendly service staff.
D. H.
Fantastic meal this evening. Had the Pumpkin Soup for starter and the pizza with Avocado, Gorganzola and Parmaham for main. Delicious after a session ice skating at the Natural History Museum!
C. K.
Food was delicious and service was excellent. Specifically, I got the diavola (pepperoni) pizza - it was delicious. The bruschetta was very good too. Again, excellent service as well.
J. C.
Lovely pizzas and pasta. Starter was a little expensive, but it was delicious. The waiter was nice.
S. P.
We had booked here because of the wonderful reviews and it didn't disappoint! Just a short walk from the National History Museum, it was the perfect place for tea. The food was absolutely amazing, true Italian cuisine and Italian drinks, the organic red wine was superb. Would highly recommend! Just book now. 😀
S.
Fettuccine with beef ragu was too salty. Servings are huge. Good service.
J. T.
Lovely place. Such friendly welcoming staff and the food was delicious.
A. T.
This is the 4th time that we have visited here and it’s been amazing every time! Great service and superb food will keep us coming back for years to come!
D. S.
Squeezed us in on a busy night, yummy food, quick service and friendly staff. Lovely little place!
S. N.
Food was great here! Wait staff a little slow but very courteous and informed. Would recommend for a nice dinner and moderately priced.
D. C.
Wonderful pizzas. Good family run service.
R. J.
Popped in for a post-museum pizza. Excellent food, great service.
T. B.
Pizza was good. Ravioli only average. That and a small mistake with bill caused one star loss.
C.
the porcini mushrooms in their veal dish are to die for. however, the veal was not very flavourful and the vongole linguini was quite dry. the tiramisu is delicious, but the cheesecake was too dense though it had great flavour. would like to return to try their pizza which is their specialty. the service is very good.
S. V.
Amazing pizzas and pasta. Had a great time with family for the dinner
D. S.
Delicious food and excellent service. Would happily visit again.
D. V.
Ripper food, a bit pricey though. We had the calamari and the fried prawns, which were both outstanding. Possibly the best calamari I've ever had in my entire life. The prawns were fresh, perfectly cooked and impeccably seasoned. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, almost too much but they were really nice. Everything about this place is genuine Italian from the decor, to the food, to the staff. The pizza was simple but amazing, they really let the ingredients speak for themselves. The pizza base was cooked to perfection and I can only assume they used a food fired oven
T. H.
Lovely authentic, independent Italian. The food was reasonably priced and delicious, the pizza was amazing quality and very tasty.
The wine was hand selected and and we shared two lovely red wines (organic included)
Perfect for date night or the family.
S. A.
Enjoyed an authentic Italian pizza in a nice atmosphere with friendly staff
A. V.
Just a few lines to thank you so much for the wonderful meal on Friday night celebrating my birthday with my wife and my daughter.
Extremely high standard of cuisine, coupled with great restaurant atmosphere. Very courteous/happy staff. A real pleasure. I will return!!
K.
Very good pizza and service. Highly recommend to go try this place. Thanks!
H. G.
We hadn't booked a table and they accommodated us politely informing us that the table was booked and did we think we would be finished by a certain time. We said we would. Not once did we feel rushed or pressured into hurrying up. The food was served up promptly; was piping hot and absolutely delicious. They didn't have the wine my step-dad ordered, but the waiter recommended the one he personally liked, so we thought we would try it. We enjoyed it so much, we ended up having 2 bottles!! The jug of tap water was kept topped up and we weren't bombarded with the usual, "Is everything alright with you," from the waiting staff. The staff were attentive but not overbearing; perfect balance. Certainly a place where I would eat again.
m. s.
Went, for lunch and what an awesome place, great fresh food really friendly family feel, great portion of food so much I could not finish
That's not normally me really great value
Will definitely take my family there for dinner even though I live 60mls away
Great place
I. D.
Great food, full of flavour, and good service. The prices aren't too bad either.
h. D.
Friendly staff great food calming atmosphere and amazing prices
C. L.
Cute, quiet little Italian restaurant in a bustling part of London's South Kensington area. We had the pizza and it was delicious! Service was good and servers were polite and friendly. Overall a satisfying choice if you're in the neighborhood and in the mood for Italian food! (We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately without a reservation, but it seemed like after 6pm a reservation is recommended on a weekend!)
K. P.
Papa Roma is one of the best Italian restaurants in London. The staff is always polite and friendly. The pizzas-delicious, the desserts-homemade,and the organic house wine -just great! I have visited this place many times and I have never been disappointed!
B. C.
Lovely restaurant. Took family on the off chance, after a day in the museums. Friendly staff, very welcoming. Food great; specials board had a couple of gems. Brilliant with the children, the kiddies portions were demolished along with a very nice sorbet to finish. Highly recommended and would come again, when back in London.
J. S.
Picked this restaurant out for lunch with the family from the hundreds packed in the local vicinity and we weren't disappointed.
Seating was a slight issue as we didn't book in advance, but we managed to get a table for 5 downstairs. Restaurant is slightly on the small size and was very busy.
The food was very, very good, especially the calamari. The calzone pizza I ordered was probably on par as the pizza I've eaten in Venice, which was amazing.
Service was attentive and efficient.
Would recommend.
R. S.
Absolutely amazing!! The drinks, the cannoli so good ... but the pizzas! The best pizza I've ever had in London & I am a Londoner. GO!
M. S.
Good food came in good time reasonably priced for London
n. b.
Food was amazing, will be heading here again pretty soon
L. M.
Nicola, the Head Chef, is absolutely amazing! Deserving of the Best Pizza in the UK title, hope they win again this year! Nick, the manager, is very professional and helped me to organise the 18 people dinner party. Worth every penny and big portions too, I had 18 very satisfied guests! Great atmosphere and ambience, lovely music too.
T. C.
really nice people and extremely good calzone!
J. S.
This wasnt the best Italian restaurant we've ever been to, but the food was good, service was impressively quick with pleasant friendly staff and the whole restaurant gives a really authentic feeling experience which just adds to the enjoyment. It had a really lovely atmosphere and although we weren't too keen on the enforced 15% service charge (we're from the midlands where this isn't standard!) The general prices were good, particularly for the area, and the portion sizes very generous. Its just a short walk from the museums and definitely a much better choice than the in house cafe's. Was very family friendly too. Overall it was a lovely meal and we would definitely come back if ever in the area again
L. P.
A beautiful family meal with some of the best Italian food we've ever had! Definitely recommend booking in advance, as we did as a number of people were turned away due to the restaurant being full. And boy can we see why it was full! The service was excellent the staff were immensely friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world! All of the pizza dough and pasta is made in house as well making it even better. Cannot recommend Pappa Roma enough, a must try if you are in the area.
N. N.
If it were just about the pizza, maybe 3 stars but it's not. The wine recommendation was fantastic! The salad was very pleasing. The scene was robust and festive. And of course it's a great location. Plus the pizza was still good...fresh mushrooms, great dough, etc... All around fun dining experience!
R. H.
Decided to go for italian while on vacation, being only 10 minutes walk from our hotel me and my wife thought we would check it out.
The inside was rustic and cozy with lots of dark wood and glass lanterns lit at each table. A very comfortable feel with friendly staff.
My wife ordered the lasagna, which she still talks about being one of her favorites to date. With an order of a side garden salad that was surprisingly large and full of vegetables, not just lettuce and one cucumber. It was very fresh and not too heavy with dressing.
I ordered a spicy wood fire pizza, It was great! Just the right amount of char on the crust and the sauce was flavorful with lots of meat and peppers. We both really enjoyed our meals and was a favorite of ours while in London.
Decently priced and more than enough of a portion as we took some to go not being able to finish it all. A great night with great food. We will definitely go back!
R. J.
Best pizza I've ever had!!!
C. K.
Great pizza, great service and you must try the Panna cotta.
L. S.
Delicious Italian meal. Real authentic feel to the restaurant. Would definitely recommend the Papa Roma pizza.
T. G.
Lovely inexpensive Italian restaurant. Far better than going to the chains scattered around South Kensington tube station. Personal, friendly and great homemade food. Family run restaurant with excellent service. Had a quick early evening meal before walking fifteen minutes to the nearby Royal Albert Hall and the senior Champions Tennis.
T. K.
Excellent and reasonably priced authentic Italian food
E. D.
Amazing pizza! 100% legit Italian, non-gass or electrical, but coal oven cooked! Starters are a must - eve the olive oil tastes legit good quality. Super friendly staff. Will come again.
S. R.
A great nice find close to the museums of West London. Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and turned up without a booked table at around 5pm on a Saturday. Nice atmosphere and very reasonable prices for eating in a London restaurant. Good size and very tasty plates and can recommend their Pizza.
W. R.
Paid a visit with my girlfriend. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great! The Pizza they serve here is better than anywhere else - I’ve been to many pizzerias both in London, and in Europe, his really was my favourite. Staff are very polite. Could not reccomend more!
Q.
When the owner and waiters are Italian you can expect great Italian cuisine and servive
P. S.
Tasty fresh pizza! Clean restaurant, friendly staff. Quick service🤗
F. W.
Great pizzas , red wine and tiramisu.
M. C.
We had a great meal here; the fettuccine ragu was the best we have had. 👍👍
N. K.
As good as Italian food gets out side of Italy, friendly quick, great quality and good value, easy walking distance from the V&A
N. H.
We found this place by chance. Glad we did. The food is excellent. Pasta was delicious and the pizzas are tasty and huge! My daughter doesn't usually eat the crust off a pizza, but she did here! We will defo come back again.
P. B.
Technically I'd give this place a 4.5* but I can't so it's getting a 4*.
There was a lot to like about this place - the staff were friendly, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and there was a decent menu. The food was really tasty - one of the nicest calzones I've had, and the basket of homemade bread for £1.50 was very welcome.
I'd argue it's possibly *slightly* more expensive than I'd like but I'm not too upset at £10.95 for a calzone. The only other slight blip was there were a couple of service mistakes (ie forgetting water, bringing a slightly wrong dish) but there was no real issue with this and certainly didn't make the service bad.
On the whole I'd definitely be open to visiting again - and it was pleasing to see the table was completely reserved for us when we got there from my booking, no trying to sneak in any other diners too close to our arrival.
h.
A brilliant restaurant, food is delicious and service is friendly and efficient. Definitely a place to add to your to visit list!
C. D.
Starters are generously portioned and yummy. Pizza is delicious too. Unfortunately we stuffed ourselves too much with starters to sample dessert. We'd happily return again and save space for dessert.
v. b.
Fabulous establishment!! Great atmosphere, music, great menu and the tastiest biggest pizza going!! Definitely be back thank you Pappa roma...
N. K.
We went as a group of 8 with kids and were all happy with what we ordered. There's no kid's menu but they offer kids portions for a couple of dishes. Staff was friendly and we didn't wait too long to get served.
R. K.
Very pleasant and friendly staff. The pizza was excellent. True Italian vibes :) Fair prices. Quiet enough to talk and dine in peace. Recommended!
M. “.
Amazing food highly recommend, staff are amazing and very polite and helpfully, highly recommend.
D. M.
Phenomenal. Very generous portions, good service and surprisingly reasonable for the area
A. A. T.
The best pizza ever in London! Real Italian food! I know the owner and he took care of every details! I recommend it!!
E. S.
Tasty pizza (and the fries were really good too) friendly. We enjoyed it. £3.15 for a can of lemonade though - ouch! The other prices were reasonable.
S. H.
Really good pizza, generous portions and not too expensive either. Great place of you want a pizza after visiting the museums. The service was also fast and staff friendly. A great place overall.
S. S.
The calzone and pistachio cannoli were amazing. I considered coming back the following day just for the cannoli. Giving only 4 stars because my husband's pizza with pesto and pine nuts was good, but not remarkable
M. S.
Today i been there with my girlfriend.
The staff was so friendly, all the dishes were delicious. Not expensive at all.
Highly reccomended
G. M.
Fantastic service, brilliant food, one of the best Italians I have had. Prices were good, especially considering location in South Kensington- I would certainly recommend for anyone who looks for attentive staff and good value. Would definitely come again. 5 stars.
R. G.
Fantastic experience here.
The staff was friendly and accomodating. We requested to move to a table away from the main door as my wife is sensitive to the cigarette smoke that wafted in, and they readily accomodated.
Food was fantastic.
A. P.
Found this gem by accident after visiting the science museum. Lovely setting with open wood beams, and candles and pleasant atmosphere. The pizzas are some of the best in London. Highly recommended.
A. H.
Great Italian staples! Nice staff.
M. L. R.
The pizza dough was very nice. All the dishes are big in size. The pasta was delicious. You could even share a main like a calzone with someone. Good service
I. F. I.
Amazing food quality. True Italian food. Great service as well!! There's not much else to say, I would highly reccomend this place. I came here with my Italian family and they all loved it! 5*
M. D.
Amazing food. Service was very good. The owner was nice to talk to and very passionate about his food. Canoli are very good, piped freshly into the cones for your order.
J. A.
Found this place after looking at online reviews, and the reviews match perfectly. This is a nice place, a little small but lovely atmosphere, great fast service and nice food.
Due to the size of the place I would suggest booking a table, we arrived around 6pm and manged without a booking.
A. A.
Visited yesterday with family. We had a great time.
The food was delicious. From the fantastic bruscetta and fresh mozzarella; to the Gorgonzola risotto. We all loved.
Pinot grigio,Italian beer and San pellegrino complimented it well.
Staff really were great.
We'll be back!
V. F.
The best pesto pasta of my life. We were in London in March and I still thinking of this pesto. And the best welcome. Sorry for my poor English.
C. B.
Absolutely gorgeous food..a hidden gem, you must find this place when in Kensington..thank you PPa Roma..
E. Q.
The chef is so nice he made a special order just for me and the stuff was so polite and helpful
J. W.
We shared a well cooked starter of calamari. The batter was light and crisp but the sweet chili sauce was misplaced. A beautiful steak was slightly let down by an overpowering balsamic dressing seeping from the obligatory rocket salad but the roast shoulder of lamb was well received. The staff were attentive and welcoming. This tranquil spot was a nice find in a busy corner of South Kensington. Worth pasing by the chains to get here. ££
B. “. T. C.
Amazing food, service, and friendly staff. Best italian food ive had in a long time. Ill be back.
C. M.
I have eaten here 30+ times and every time the food is amazing. It's a family run business and all the family and staff are lovely! Honestly great food and good prices!
Z. C.
Absolutely delicious food, the pizza and pasta is amazing and possibly the best Italian cuisine I have tried! The staff are really friendly and the restaurant is really pretty and has a nice, rustic vibe.
T.
Great food, great service and a hidden gem! Puts other pizzerias in the area to shame. On a par with Pizza Portabello and Pizza East! Will be back. Only comment would be the music choice. Pop hits rather than 'dining music'
H. C.
Nice and cozy place. Excellent service and tasty pizzas. Great choice to eat after a visit of the musseums or just to enjoy a good meal.
H. W.
Ate here for son's birthday after a visit to the Natural History Museum. I would recomnend it highly. Great food, attentive staff and reasonably priced. We will return
M. R.
Stopped here for a very good dinner. Risotto was definitely a great choice, pizza looked good as well. Welcoming setting if you're looking for some decent Italian food in this area of London.
