Update: we had a lovely dinner at Symposium more recently. Thanks :) We’ve been to Symposium twice and the experience has been inconsistent for different reasons each time. 1st visit: before the pandemic. Food was okay. The salt level in the food was very variable, a bit high in the dishes I had. 2nd visit recently: Food was excellent but there was some confusion about our wine order. We ordered a bottle of the house white (which we did not get: the wait staff gave us a more expensive bottle compared to the price on the menu, without clarifying this). We were then told that they would pour out two glasses for us since the bottle was not chilled enough for serving. But at the end of the meal we were charged for the bottle and also the two additional glasses of wine, which is not what we wanted or ordered - even though we raised both of these issues with the waitresses. (The waitresses were lovely - but mistakes like these made the meal about £25+service more expensive than we intended.) We could have refused to pay the service charge but I felt that the hospitality industry needs customers. Will our third visit be error-free? It will be some time before we go back…

Good little Italian store with a range of Italian Salami and other hams and a decent selection of Italian wines priced to go. They serve gelato, although I haven't tried, and a small restaurant our back. Like 👍

We went there for dinner on Friday night. The vibe was very chilled, beautiful interior in the inner part. We had beef cheeks (really nice and tender, good sized portion) and duck salad (good, but the duck was overdone). For the mains we had lasagna (decent quality, but a bit dry for my taste) and rabbit (very good). An amazing selection of Italian wines. The service is really, really friendly and very attentive. Overall, a nice local gem both for dinner or just casual drinks with some Italian cheese and meets. Would definitely go back.

Lovely restaurant where you can really feel the Italian atmosphere. The food is a nice mix of tradition and originality: the burrata had an authentic taste, my beetroot ravioli were delicious and the desserts were simply great. Wide choice of Italian wines and friendly service. Super recommended!

I discovered this gem a little late, I think. Both the pasta and the daily menu options are amazing, so Symposium quickly became our go-to place when we want a little treat. Desserts deserve an extra shout out: their rum baba instantly takes me back to my childhood. I always end up grabbing some ham/cheese and a bottle of red for home, too!

Fantastic wine selection, utterly delicious food (especially the smoked burrata, the tiramisu and the rhum baba) and warm, friendly, knowledgeable service. This is my new favourite local restaurant and I can't wait to come back. 💚 Covid stuff: There are screens between the tables and everything is well spaced out/super clean. Staff are all wearing masks, the door was open providing ventilation and it all felt very safe. There are a couple of outdoor tables too if you're not quite ready for indoor socialising.

Never had dinner here (yet anyway) but it's always such a lovely experience popping in to the deli. The guys are super friendly and they have the most delicious produce - too many amazing cheeses and meats to list here. Also - try their homemade pistachio gelato, you won't regret it!

Friendly staff serve simple Italian restaurant food, cooked with care and lovely ingredients. During lockdown when they were operating as a deli and takeaway only, I came regularly for bread, and they also stock some excellent wine and beer (like East London pilsner... delicious). The owner knows his wine, and is really helpful.

Love this place. The current chef they have is fantastic. Delicious, homemade pasta that really feels authentic. Also great wine selection for such a small place. Super friendly staff and owner. If you're in the area skip Victoria Park village and walk a few mins to here :) Another wonderful meal at this Italian deli and restaurant. A wonderful selection of starters ideal for sharing, the sea bream was beautiful and the venison, which was fresh to their seasonal menu that day, was delicious!

We had a fantastic wedding lunch at Symposium. We were 20 people in total and in spite the size of our group, the service was impeccable. The food was delicious, the wine was great and the pace of the meal was perfect. No delays but enough time between the dishes to allow for the change and leave space for chats between the guests. We had a wonderful experience and we will certainly go back!

Been twice and the first time the food was sublime. The second time was for a tasting menu experience and it was a nice experience but the portions were too small. Saying that I would definitely return just on the strength of the normal menu. The wines they offer with the food are delicious.

Amazing wine selection, fab food, simple but so tasty. The wines are well chosen and thought about. Wouldn't expect such a gem in this area. But now we know it's there will be a regular haunt. They do wine tasting sessions whivh are popular. Great cheese selection!

Just Delicious! And very good value. Lovely atmosphere - family owned. I wanted to take away and the staff were very accommodating, preparing the food in no time at all. In particular, the warm duck salad was just gorgeous and under ten pounds too. The gentlemen also served me a lovely glass of red on his recommendation. Very friendly people, excellent service! We had a light lunch here on a Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the meal. First off the atmosphere is just right - classy but relaxed and the excellent service underlines this. We share a tomato and mascarpone soup - extremely tasty - and the most enormous plate of burrata, rocket and Italian dried ham which was stunningly good - clearly the ingredient sourcing is a strong point. With a glass of wine the bill came to about £25 including service which is good value.

The food was amazing, I had the lamb chop with courgette in the most delicious white bean sauce. While the service was superb in providing a relaxing environment even after the confusion and discomfort first cause after asking for a gluten-free menu. However, I was disappointed as we called in advance asking if they had a gluten free menu in which they said yes. After arriving it turned out they didn't have a gluten free menu only 3 dishes with didn't contain gluten. Limiting my selection from a wide range of dishes to the most expensive items on the menu. Overall, would recommend to those who can eat everything on the menu but I would not recommend to those suffering from celiac disease.

My wife and I visited Symposium off the cuff last night. Felt very welcome from the start. The place was bustling and we still felt well accomodated. Had a really authentically Italian feel. Food was great and wines were fabulous. A very chilled out and unpretentious experience. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommended.

Food & service were good, but paid for service charge twice. When the bill came and paid for by card, I was given the option to add a tip without realising that this had already been added to the original bill (my fault). The person who served us didn't mention this. Will not be going back there out of principle.[Update] Owner was quick to contact me & rectify the issue, refunded the additional amount.

I've had dinner at Symposium twice now- the food and atmosphere is something special. On both visits the ambiance has been friendly and relaxed, with fantastic service. The owners are very accomodating and knowledgable about the food and wine they serve. The food is delicious- I would highly recommend the lasagna. A little slice of modern Italy in the heart of the East End.

This is the best place to get wine around here, they sell amazing wine for any price range. The menu is always perfect, for lunch and for dinner, the deli sells good Italian products, and even the coffee is excellent. And the cakes! Everyone go here x

There's a great vibe to the place. Cosy, great food at extremely reasonable prices, a great wine selection, interesting dishes that you may have not seen before in the deli regardless of how much of a food geek you are. Alongside the big hitters like Lasagne, the menu changes the dishes daily which keeps this place interesting and new each time you visit. But, the most important aspect of this place is the service. London can be an isolating place at times, but this is a place where you will be welcome regardless if you having a leisurely dinner as a large group or a quick bite to eat solo after a long day at work. It's clear the owners are out to provide a great experience for the local community and it shows. A place like this is in a large city like London is a rare gem these days.

Cannot deny that the offerings here are high quality, but something is missing. It could be the layout of the shop, with only one table in the bright shopfront (the remainder in the darker rear of the cafe); or the fact that the place isn't sure if it wants to be a patisserie, cafe or restaurant; or the prices which reflect where Bow is going rather than where is currently is. Hopefully they develop and get the formula right - this is the sort of place that could fit well on Roman Road.
