Gorgeous food and a beautiful venue. I had the vegetarian antipasto and the spinach and ricotta parcels and it was all absolutely delicious. My sister had mussels and mixed seafood linguini and she loved that too.

We've been here a few times, we love coming here. The mussels starter is big enough to share between 2-3 people, and both the red and white creamy sauces are very tasty, although bare in mind the red sauce can be quite spicy. We've had the sirloin steaks, one with Diane sauce and the other with a red, anchovy sauce. They were cooked exactly as we asked them to be (medium, medium to rare) and they were perfect. The Inglese pizza is delicious, it's so flavourful and love the thin crust and egg on top! Once the egg was fried, but preferably the egg would be best cooked on top of the pizza. The salmon is a delight every time! Would recommend a glass of the Italian red wine, Barbera d'Asti, to go with the steak. The homemade chips on our first visit were a little undercooked and we mentioned it, and since then they've been delicious and crispy every single time. The herb potatoes are pleasant too. We shared a homemade cheesecake of the day (caramel cheesecake), it tasted like heaven! We would go back there just for the cheesecake alone! Tried the chocolate fudge cake with pouring cream, it was delightful! The liquor coffee was lovely too. The service was a bit slow, but it was nice to have long breaks between each dish and not feel rushed to eat like at other restaurants. Also, the first time we came here no one checked throughout our meal if everything was ok with our food, which is custom to do, but that's also been rectified since we mentioned it. We appreciate the fact our feedback has been taken seriously. We would recommend this restaurant 100% for the amazing food and lovely staff, we'll definitely be coming back in the future.

Beautiful restaurant, lovely food. Had the 3 course festive meal. Smoked salmon starter, sirloin steak in Madiera sauce and panetone pudding with a glass of prosecco on the side. Everything was delicious apart from the steak which was too thick and slightly tough. Apart from this, it was lovely. Great service too.

Our first time in Newcastle so I did check the reviews before we went. Thank fully the restaurant matched up to the reviews. A bustling place with a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service staff did everything to make sure you got exactly what you wanted. I had the seafood pancake served with a Greek salad. Delicious. No complaints at all. My husband and I had been wanting to go to this restaurant for a long time and finally got the chance this weekend. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and always came by to see how we were doing. She was quite informed about the menu and gave excellent recommendations for all courses. As an appetizer, we shared the salad Vert, followed by the special asparagus as a side dish. We had a great time with the food we ordered! Good place.

Delicious Italian food, garlic bread was a thin base just how I like it. Scallops to start and a Delicious mixed seafood with thin spaghetti. The restaurant is in a Victorian listed building. Booking would be recommended as was very busy although that may be due to the early bird offer.

Mussels over cooked and the sirloin steak was just a steak on a plate nothing else, the steak was just over cooked and the fat on the sirloin was raw and inedible. Some chips on the side but we're blonde and just tasteless. Really considering not going back after this. Great atmosphere and decor.

The only reason I'm not giving a 5 is that I requested a receipt with VAT, was given the response that the company just changed so they don't know their VAT and that I should send an email requesting for it....why hasn't the staff sent an email before hand to know this VAT and provide it when requested...

I had booked for the wrong date by accident and instead of being ushered away, a table was made up for us which was very kind. We were quite close to another table, but to my suprise once I'd returned from the toilets, we had been moved to a cosier part of the restaurant. The meal was excellent, the staff were friendly and accommodating and we had a great time as a result. Thank you to all the staff involved. Flooring cuts around radiator looks hacked out, holes in bench seats, cluster of wires visible and tiles poorly done in some areas which is a shame as this looks and amazing historical building with beautiful arching high ceilings. The best Italian restaurant in Newcastle and possibly the Northeast. (My favourite) How to test if you are eating Authentic Italian food: If the lasagna is sloppy and swimming in cheese sauce you know you are eating slop... At Portofino's it stands proud on your plate, surrounded with juice and sauce at the base. You can taste quality beef, instead of some cheese and tomato pasta soup you will be served at other places... boasting to be the best because they have nice Italian style decor!! Portofino's is by far....The best food, best value, service is usually good ... 5 stars!

The service from the staff was excellent especially as the place was packed. The food was delicious and my son reported that his fillet steak was cooked medium rare exactly as he asked for. Initially I asked for the restaurant week menu and although they stopped serving this menu at 4.30pm and our table was at 6pm which I hadn't realised they brought it to us without any quibbling. We did however order from the main menu as there was lots of choice. We will definitely be back soon

Went for Sunday lunch, which was a really good experience. We had booked a table for 1:30, which was just as well as it was busy. We were seated quickly and efficiently, at a table of our choice. It is quite a historic building, the interior having high ceilings and the walls covered in glazed tiles. For all of that, it was a nice, comfortable temperature. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigiot, which was reasonably priced and very nice. Homemade soup and roll for starters (Tomato and peppers), which was thick and very tasty. The chicken roast dinner was very nice, served with fresh/ tasty veg and a lovely Yorkshire pudding. It was accompanied by a generous jug of gravy each. All in all, excellent value for money, great quality and professional, hard working staff. Can't wait to revisit for a second opinion.

Me and my family have been here many many times over several years. We have never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Sea food is amazing and generous portions, especially muscles for starters. Pasta is always well cooked and Al dente. Pizza is very well cooked, nice and thin base with great topings. Risotto is very well cooked with plenty of flavour options! Dessert options change over time but never had a bad option here, lots of good cakes! Plenty of vegetarian options here too so very inclusive. Overall a lovely restaurant, friendly and accommodating staff with an absolutely lovely building interior. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant (I would reserve a table for dinner times and weekends. )

This is my favourite Italian Restaurant in Newcastle. The food is incredible and the service is fantastic. You are always greeted with a smile when you walk in. I highly recommend the Roma pasta and the chocolate brownie. I get it almost every time I go. It's not that expensive either! My boyfriend and I go as much as we can.

We were greeted by a smart Italian fella who escorted us to the table.the decor is absolutely wonderful, the tiles pillars and arches really give the place a sense of style and lends a certain x factor to the experience. What can I say about the food..... THE BEST STEAK I HAVE EVER HAD... No really, I had the fillet surf and turf and any words I write here would not do it justice, but believe me when I say it's to die for! And with Peroni on tap I can honestly say that I would give Portofino 10 stars as opposed to the 5 allowed. Excellent 👍

Initially quite a long wait, half an hour at least after our reservation which the maître d' didn't seem to know anything about. So we sat and had some drinks in waiting. A cocktail at near £8 was a bit pricey, not sure if that's the standard in the city centre, but I know I'm normally looking at a jug in that price band. HAVING said that, once we did get seated, the food and general service was excellent. We started with nachos to share, which were interestingly different from what I'm used to, albeit a very nice different. The nacho crisps tasted freshly made, and the cheese was more like a thin cheese sauce than a melted block of chedder. The steak for my main was absolutely delightful. Whoever cooked the steak knows how to cook a steak. The dressing and sauce were lovely, and the chips I could tell were also fresh. Finally on to dessert. A chocolate fudge brownie with a scoop of ice cream ontop. The best way to describe that was THICK, just the way fudge should be. Not neglecting the waiting staff, they were very attentive and well mannered. I did at times feel they were keen for us to go with the frequency they'd check on our near empty plates, but I'll let that go with how busy the place was. All in, very enjoyable, although I'd maybe go again on a night that isn't a Weekender to avoid the Mad-Rush.

Coffee (perfect) affogato....expresso with vanilla ice cream WAW! 10/10 CHOCOLATE fudge cake also with ice cream, fresh strawberry, slice of orange, cream, and decorated with a few mint leaves, drizzled with chocolate sauce... (I've just had this and I'm still drooling!) Gnocchi as a side dish is more than enough...they have their own style here and it's beautiful but also very filling. (Recommend only ordering this as a side...you won't eat it all as a main) Pizza (fresh doe stone baked.... Even the bread base has distinctive full flavour. Potatoes kind and olives also as a side. Pilsner beer on draught! And a lovely evening was had by all..... A perfect place to relax and discuss business with potential clients or a refreshing change from a boring night at home having to cook. Well done portifino DON'T LET THIS GO TO YOUR HEAD....you have work to do not only to maintain this level but also to keep improving.

Portion sizes were a bit on the stingy side and the seabass should have come with veg, but was served with chips. To me chips are an option to potatoes or mash. Veg should come with both to provide a well balanced meal. All meals should come with veg or salad. Decent value for money, but could be better by addressing these two issues of veg and portion size. Last point - ladies toilets...horrible

A fantastic after-work, mid-week meal served in an interesting setting (an old insurance company building) the meal was first class, I always base how good an Italian restaurant is by the quality of their bolognese and Portofino's is excellent. The homemade Snickers cheesecake was unbelievably good and the cappuccino was as good as any I had in Italy. The staff were (mostly) friendly and happy, but all were attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, however I imagine that it gets busy over the weekend.
