Our main course was really nice and a majority of the staff were very welcoming apart from one lady who came across as very rude and irritated by us. She constantly loitered by our table, looking over our shoulder and when we asked for the bill we were told we weren't allowed to pay until we bought a dessert because there was a set menu so we ended up paying £10 each for a dessert we didn't want and they didn't have what we asked for in stock anyway. The other servers were fantastic but this one employee ruined our experience. Her attitude made us very uncomfortable. The dessert portion sizes were disappointing considered how much we paid.

I had been at Valentino’s only once in the very old past and it was very busy so I didn’t have a clear memory of that time. I went instead recently and I was impressed, the food was absolutely delicious I enjoyed every single meal, the waiters, every single one, was so smiley and welcoming, they made us feel comfortable and happy. The beef was so tender and cooked to the perfection. I went away so satisfied and with a wide smile stamped on my face. I’ll be back there again. Great work guys! You’re doing very well!

This place gets great reviews but it's not that great. When asking the waiter what starter they recommend. The last thing you want to here is "well they are all good we haven't killed anybody yet" we ended up with this over priced piece of melon with cured meat and shop bought jam for 8 pounds from the recommendation. The pizza was really nice and improved the rating but the pasta was pasta and salt. Very unfortunate that we chose this place to eat. Overpriced for its quality.

We’ve ate here as a family a few times and it’s absolutely brilliant, there are a lot of restaurants in York but it was definitely worth a visit! The food is spectacular and was fresh, all our portion sizes were very big. I highly recommend the pizza garlic bread to start with. We finished with dessert and the presentation was amazing with a selection of fruits served alongside my tiramisu. The staff (especially the manageress) are friendly and welcoming.

Great food and lovely atmosphere - welcoming and friendly staff, busy but not noisy. Our food was well presented and delicious - from simple pepperoni pizza to chicken in Dolcelatte sauce. There are lots of Italian meat and fish dishes to choose from, not just pizza and pasta. Valentino's was able to fit us in at short notice too. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Really enjoyed Valentino's in York. Well worth the 40 minute drive. Every meal was delicious and well presented. Valentinos was very popular on the Friday night. Lovely garlic mushrooms which were boiling hot so wait before you dig in. Complimentary basket of bread to dunk in. I had tagliatelle carbonara. Strange flour taste left in the mouth - perhaps I had too much garlic in the starter, so it seemed bland. I left some of my main course. Starter £8, main £13, seems typical pricing in York. Lovely coffee. Wine and Spirits are available. Comfortable chairs and marble table. Nice older waiter.

One of the most superb restaurants I have ever been too, there is absolutely nothing to complain about. We walked through the door to the most friendly atmosphere, greeted instantly by the two lovely men seatting us and getting our drinks. We were treated more like friends than customers, dancing around our table, singing and playing the guitar by the man in yellow. The food was excellent it needs no more saying, be we used the 2 courses for 18 quid which is cheap in my eyes for the atmosphere and customer service. Food finishes and we requested the bill, told how we felt about the place only to receive the bill along with extra drinks on the house. An exceptional place to dine if you are in one of the hotels outside of the wall. And if not just go there. It speaks for itself. Below is just the starter (fired mozzarella)

This was my first visit to the restaurant and I was very impressed. They accommodated us at very short notice but made us feel very welcome. A high level of customer service, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A comprehensive food and drinks menu with everything reasonably priced. The food was tasty and you received generous portions, particularly the starters. A pleasant experience and I'd be happy to return.

Arrived in York and checked in.. asked the manager of any recommendations for food near by. 10 mins from our hotel. Booked on line, and when we arrived we were greater and seated. Food was amazing. We couldn't fault a thing. Staff very friendly, and welcoming. Very attentive. We weren't rushed, in between courses. The restaurant is lovely. Fresh, clean and very tidy. Would highly recommend this restaurant if visiting the area.

Would recommend going at a quieter time, such as when it first opens. The pasta and pizza dishes are high quality, and the waiters were very friendly and attentive for most of our meal (and one of them seems to be an aspiring opera singer), but once we had our main courses the restaurant was getting full and it took a long time to get any further attention. We were going to order more drinks and maybe dessert, but it took so long to get anyone to come over we just asked for the bill instead. It seems the table next to us had similar issues - they really need more waiting staff when the restaurant is full, or maybe not fill every table on both floors if they can't keep up with the ones they have.

We booked last minute, very late last night via email and got a very prompt response. Turned up, seated straight away. The decor and atmosphere was very nice and high class, the staff were very friendly, chatty and welcoming and well the food was just delicious. The beat pizza and pasta we have had since our holiday in Italy a couple of years ago. Cannot fault anything about our meal there and would highly recommend to anyone.

I really enjoyed my experience here. They were very careful with safety measures for covid, I felt very safe and never once uneasy even though it was busy. The food was absolutely amazing, looked, smelled and tasted great. The service was very quick even though it was busy and the restaurant staff were all very pleasant. Although there was background music, the music was not played so loudly that I couldn't enjoy conversation. I would certainly go back next time I'm around the area.

Friendly and attentive service, food was good honest cooking rather than refined but the starters and dessert very good, generous portions, but chicken wrapped in panacetta too dry. I ordered ravioli with spinach and it was very delicious, but that’s about it really. First of all, tables were so close to each other that I had a bit of covid anxiety. Secondly, we weren’t impressed with starters, prawns had no taste. Once we’ve finished, we waited for 15 minutes for someone to bring the bill, asked 3 staff members, no reaction at all. Felt like they don’t respect other people’s time. Not sure why this place has a misleading 4.5 stars. Thanks for a very nice pasta though!

Stayed in York for two nights in February and ate here on our second night. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. On arrival we were immediately seated, drinks orders taken and give complimentary olives and bread. We ordered starters, mains and sides and the only regret we had was that the portions were huge and we could not eat it all. We ordered breaded goats cheese, stuffed peppers and had steak for our mains, the food was absolutely excellent and we could not fault it at all. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and if we ever travel to York again this will be my first choice for eating out!

Welll I didn't book so next time I will def book. This place was very busy ,someone was standing at the door as soon as a table left. The staff are very friendly and helpful the sort of staff you really want cheerful and clear tables when they walk past with hands empty. There was even a couple of young lads possibly work experience but even they were happy and smiles. The food ... Well I has a breadcrumbs mozzarella with a freshly made tomato sauce . (Not frozen mozzarella sticks) but a huge piece. This was delicious. My partner had a smoked salmon and prawn starter. I've never seen it presented this way. She loved it. Main course was chicken breast with spinach and dolcetta .I didnt need the plate of veg and potatoes. My partner had pasta carbonara. She said it was the best she had ever tried. The bill was also not scarey. I will 100% be back again.

I've eaten here multiple times and completely enjoyed every meal. The starters are fresh and flavorful. The main courses are awesome. My favorites are the lobster with shrimp sauce (traditional yet perfectly done) and the Lamb-mint ravioli with a slightly mint marinara sauce.. It is SO unique and delicious. I loved it. Service is excellent and I am picky. Never saw a bottle touch the rim of a glass. Plates held by the bottom. Tables are cleaned well and quietly between patrons. Tables have live fresh flowers. Daily specials are focused on what is fresh... Not what is trendy. Love it! I visit York monthly and I'll be back often for dinner here and will ask for Augustino... He's great!

We had a friends/family gathering(24 people), in the upstairs room. The atmosphere was lovely ,and relaxed, the food was fabulous and the staff were attentive and very entertaining. (Would advise making menu choices in advance for a big group, as we did.) We booked a table for a birthday and prior to that enquired regarding vegan and child options. Both were answered promptly with yes - both available. The staff were lovely and friendly. No vegan cheese was available (for a dairy allergy) and there was no specific kids menu. We were told that that we could pick anything off the menu and a smaller portion would be given for children. Both children's meals came as an adults and we were charged for them as adults meals (2 small eaters aged 5 and 20mths). The meals we ate were lovely. Very good food and reasonably priced. Our only disappointment was size and price of the kids meals.

Great food, big portions, incredibly rapid service even when busy They are not taking appropriate measures to be covid secure - staff in visors not masks and tables incredibly close together so the staff get pretty close to you. If one person in there has covid I would say the risk to others quite high. However prevalence in York low right now, I'd reconsider if it was higher

Visited Valentino's as a family recently, following a recommendation. It's good to know about for getting a table at short notice on a weekend. York restaurants get very busy on Saturdays so getting a table without a reservation is tricky. Because this is just outside the bar walls on The Mount, it is less busy and cheaper too. Food was good, with a fairly standard Italian menu plus a specials menu. Between five we had everything from pizza to pasta to meat and seafood. Service was good and the staff were lovely and friendly. Slight glitch with an undercooked chicken dish but was rectified easily, no fuss. Bill came to £125 for five adults including starters, some desserts and drinks. Pretty cheap to be honest. Will go back, especially if we need a fallback at short notice.

We had an absolutely lovely dinner here. The food was excellent (starters and mains) and AMPLE portions. Dinner began with a complimentary "l'amuse bouche" and ended with a lovely complimentary liqueur. In between we had very good starters (tricolor salad, calamari, antipasto) and excellent mains (lobster ravioli and the duck special). The staff were very attentive--not rushing us at all, but always there when needed. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We went on a Sunday evening a couple of weeks ago and chose from the happy hour menu which offered a good choice. I went for the steak, something I was surprised to see on a happy hour menu, and it didn't disappoint. The caprese starter was also great and you could tell the freshness in the ingredients. Despite us being last in the restaurant after finishing the main, we weren't rushed out, waiting staff were really good and friendly throughout.

York Racing August Bank holiday weekend; we booked a table for 10 1hr30mins prior to arriving. The table was all ready for us, the moment I opened the door we were greeted with smiling, friendly and welcoming staff. True Italian hospitality, we were part of the family for 2hrs. A bit of a heads up, their starters are an incredibly generous size. Our food arrived very quickly after ordering, despite our group size which usually slows things down. The food was all well presented with fresh produce clearly being used. Within 5 minutes of finishing our starter our main course began to be presented to the table all correct first time round and tasting incredibly fresh. We all left feeling extremely satisfied and filled with love; if we return to York we will undoubtedly return to Valentino's.

The service was quick and impeccable. The food was amazing, absolutely delicious, and came very quick after we ordered it😍. I am normally quite sceptical to eating fish out at restaurants since I am used to the Norwegian standards on seafood - but I had this ravioli gallo rina and it was just a joy to eat. The staff there also served us some cocktails on request, which where beautifully decorated with flowers and fruit. I wholeheartedly recommend this place and will definitely go there again! (Also the music was great and set a nice atmosphere. Even though it was mostly spanish😂)

One of the best italian restaurants going. We had three amazing waiting staff all providing an amazing level of customer service. From our first waiter who recommended one of the best rose wine bottles they offered. To the lovely waitresses who always asked us if we were enjoying everything through to the third and the funniest one. The third waiter treated everyone as if they were his family. Welcoming them with open arms through to singing around the door of the restaurant with his guitar. The food was amazing. During our dining we enjoyed a three course meal. Starting with a brilliant garlic bread pizza with cheese ajd tomato. Our seconds course was the chef special fillet of tuna in a pizzeola sauce and the tagliatelle carbonara. Two stunning dishes bursting with flavour. To finish we had the creme brulee and a tiramisu made with austenitic Italian coffee. The whole evening was the perfect way to end a brilliant stay in York.
