Reviews of Wellington Arms
M. F.
If you want a proper pub, in Bedford nothing comes close (Three Cups is the nearest). A temple to ale. As good a pub as will be found anywhere.
D. M.
Great atmosphere, felt like travelling back in time. Did not expect that in the middle of town centre. A band was playing so great atmosphere all around. I am not sure if they serve food as I was only there for few drinks but the beer selection was great.
G. F.
My favourite beer drinkers pub in the South of England! A traditional half pint many times. Liz is the best landlady.
M. S.
Safe and welcoming pub. Friendly staff, nice garden and dog friendly.
Any age welcome, great atmosphere.
Ladies toilet recently redecorated, very artistic.
A. C.
My new favourite pub. Bedfords hidden gen. Wish I knew about it sooner! Great decor traditional English local with a massive selection of real cask ales. Sign says it all!
j. s.
Beer very good and wide choice of real ales. Not as busy as expected. No food available and on-street parking tricky.
M. S.
A proper pub with wonderful beers and ambiance. Far removed from the no character sterile pubs in the town centre.
If you want a real pub with great staff and customers this is the place to go.
P. M.
Fantastic pub. Best in Bedford. Old style and very quirky. Great selection of ales on offer. Wife was very happy with the wine on offer as well. Sat and played cards and enjoyed the atmosphere. Will differently be heading back.
B. D.
A nice traditional back street pub. With plenty of character. A place to idle away a couple of hours. Great atmosphere and great beer.
S. L.
What a pub! Great beer and very friendly. Every town needs at least one pub like this.
L. B.
Hidden gem 'old school' pub with over a dozen real ales on hand pump. Great selection of bottled Belgian beers and five craft gins with quality tonics to match.
The pub is adorned with beer bottles & pump clips and if you look carefully you might find a random non-beer related item hiding amongst them.
Staff are friendly and helpful; you can ask for a taster of the beer before you buy it. And there are samples of each beer in front of the handpump so that you can see what colour it is to help you hone in on your favourite style or choose something different.
They don't do food but you can get all manner of traditional packeted salty bar snacks.
W. T.
Nice locals pub, good service. Very welcoming.
V. K.
I just love this pub. Such a great welcome always, and Liz the owner is brilliant. An excellent range of beers and specials, lovely wines- everything you need. And it's dog friendly!
A. F.
A real back street local with a range of real ale and usually a cider or perry or two on tap. Mild, porter and stout may also be available too. Add a fridge full of select European beers with an odd worldwide one, a usually knowledgeable and friendly bunch of locals, another fridge with bottled cider, and staff that usually seem to like their job, why wouldn't you have a beer?
Just to add that a range of canned and bottled craft beers have been added too with some unusual ones on the list which I also highly recommend.
Now also friendly dog friendly. But check it's not too busy.
J. I.
Great selection of beers at very reasonable prices
D. C.
Serving well kept ales from Neepsend Brewery and guest ales also, good old traditional pub.If visiting Sheffield a must for real ale
S. R.
Great pub. Great selection of Ale.
P. R.
Arguably one of the best 🍺 pubs in England. Great local pub excellent choice. Knowledgeable staff. Brilliant. Highly Recommended
S. M.
Great local pub. Lots of chats going on and people are very welcoming.
E. M.
No frills or gimmicks, this pub serves up superb beer every time. There will always be something new to try and you know it will have been treated and kept properly. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming, if you like proper beer then this is the place for you.
V. H.
There are so many beers to try it's tempting to try them all! This pub is where the locals hang out after work so there is an amiable atmosphere. The wine selection is terrible but if you go to the Wellie, it's to have a pint (or 3). The decor is very cool! Come see for yourself.
S. C.
Fantastic old-school style pub with an amazing selection real ale and ciders. The atmosphere is great and the decour is is just as good. Even have a small selection of Belgian and German beers in the fridge. Would recommend this place to anyone who is a fan of pubs.
K. F.
Superb pub with a wonderful range of ales. A beer drinkers Paradise!! Always welcoming with a great atmosphere. Only downside is the 80's era closing times. 11pm on a Friday, is very disappointing!!
K. B.
This was the best pub I visited during my short trip to Bedford. I sat outside in a small backyard because the weather was nice but the interior was lovely. It is not the largest pub but they had a nice selection of beverages to choose from. Next time this will be the first pub I visit.
J. O.
I used to go there for years but I stopped because in the recent years I struggle to find a decent dark beer. Beers tend to be old fashioned light beers that don't appeal to me. Still it's a great local boozer and I love the decour.
V. D.
Nice and quiet little pub where you can relax and chat with your friends without too much noise. Helpful staff and exceptional service. There is a nice scent, but I couldn't really tell what it was. The decor didn't really stand out.
S. C.
The Wellie is and has been for a long time, one of my favourite Pubs in Bedford.
Known as a great real ale pub which doesn't do run of the mill drinks (as the sign outside proudly states) this B&T house is a real gem and a bolt hole for a decent pint any evening.
Good beer choice comes as standard with a great range of local beers on 14 hand pumps, plus ciders, plus a few good kegs, together with two large chill cabinets with a range of continental beers and ciders in bottle.
Though there is a kitchen, I've never seen food served here.
The clientele is normally friendly and as a small pub, it feels cosy. It isn't solely a men's pub either, thankfully. There is a small outdoor drinking area too in a courtyard.
Off pints are rare here and if you detect something that doesn't taste right, an honest report to whoever is serving will get you a different one, at no extra cost. They are happy for you to taste something first, as well.
A CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular, it sets a standard locally. If you don't know it, try it. Gets busier as the week progresses. Try early in the week or early evening. Will be back, for sure!!!
J. W.
This is a quality pub for lovers of real ales. They have a very large rotating selection of beers, Belgian bottled and good ciders as well. Good company, chat and beer. No machines, and very occasional TV.
D. S.
This apparently unassuming backstreet pub has what is the largest craft beer selection in Bedford, all of which is excellently kept. The number of handpumps alone is mind boggling. The atmosphere is never less than friendly and it can get extremely lively, especially at weekends. It's well worth making the effort to venture outside of the immediate town centre to visit it.
F. B.
Great selection of real ale, and a fridge full of Belgium beer and craft beer. Great service. Woulf definitely come back.
V. B.
A proper old style pub with an amazing selection of ales, if you are looking for an old style bozzer I recommend giving the Wellington a try.
J. S.
We love this bar. Pre lockdown we would arrange to meet up with all our friends to catch up when here summer and christmas. now moved back can visit more often. such a good choice of ales and really friendly staff.
P. L.
Best beer pub in Bedford bar none. Largest choice, consistant quality, great crowd, very reasonable prices. Have been drinking here on and off since it reopened as a B&T outlet. I have even done a few shifts behind the as a favour to the first B&T manager the infamous Eric!
M. L.
Best pub in Bedford for Ale and atmosphere for the old school boys who loves banter and quality Ale 🍺
e. f.
Possibly the best proper pub in Bedford. Not as many beers on as in the past but still enjoyable.
C. J.
Nice little pub in a low traffic area. They serve Ledge, my favourite lager, so this is enough for me to rate highly. Also the staff were welcoming and friendly.
S. L.
A great little pub with a good range of ales. Small outside area & everyone very friendly.
J. f.
fantastic pub, great staff and a great range of beer
M. M. M.
Cosy little old school type pub. Situated in a place useful and frequently used by locals and visiters to the area. I like the fact that it has live bands and the bands are lively and varied. Unlike some pubs that only host regular or the same bands that some
become boring and don't cater for all or varied genres. Very busy pub
R. S.
Lovely old school pub with great selection of ales. wines and gins.
N. L.
Excellent back street local with goid selection of real ales
P. W.
Wonderful cosy corner pub with amazing choice of ever changing real ales, proper cider and interesting Belgian bottles. Lovely staff and customers - the nicest, friendliest people in Bedford
M. W.
I went here with my hubby on my birthday last week we were welcomed as we walked in and out of the pub by customers and staff this is the pub my hubby and I met in back in the 80s and we hadn't been in such a long time but we were very impressed we were excited to go back so this Saturday we turned up but unfortunately due to covid there was no tables left however we still felt a sense of friendliness and atmosphere and we fully understood so we will be booking a table now that we know look forward to a lovely evening soon
B.
Quality beer and cider, real cider on handpump, usually a mild and stout/porter. Great variety of beer, like a mini festival. Staff are usually very knowledgeable about the ales they are selling.
J. C.
Lovely, 'traditional' pub. Great service. Nice beer garden too.
R. W.
The best real ale pub in Bedford. No slots, no music, just a regular turnaround of very well kept ale served by friendly and informative staff. Cheap too !
D. H.
Excellent old fashioned pub with great selection of ales. Friendly atmosphere and good service.
S. C.
The best pub in England. Simple. Great ales. Friendly staff. No hipsters. No None Direction wanna be's bloating themselves up for the night on Stella.
D. B.
Good atmosphere a great selection of beers and friendly clientele. Nice pub to relax in.
D. H.
Back street (and difficult to find) boozer with a really excellent, ever changing choice of well kept beers at a fair price. Go with friends though, as it is pretty "cliquey" and the regulars are unlikely to talk to you.
R. L.
Great pub...Great range of beers.
R. C.
Great beer and wonderful staff. This is what a pub should be.
A. S.
Hidden gem tucked away in the side streets of Bedford. Good choice of real ales.

Been there many times with friends. Like to enjoy the real atmosphere of old pub. Cool staff, good service. There’s variety of cask but disappointed for not having any draft. Hope they’ll think about good business for youngs not only for old ones.
D.
A CAMRA pub gem amongst all pubs in Bedford.
d. n.
Good solid country pub in the town. Great selection of real ales. Friendly and helpful staff.
A. S.

The Welly is definitely the best pub in Bedford for choice of interesting ales and proper boozer atmosphere. No juke box, no wifi, Landlady and Staff care about quality and service.
R. H.
Great pub, great beer. Always a friendly welcome.
s. J.
It's like walking into the past, the wall is adorned with old beer Matt's and bottles. There are around 12 ales/beers to choose from and prices are very reasonable.
B. H.
Always been one of my favourite pubs. Different beers every week, Staropramen always crisp & cold.
j. c.

M. O.
Year long beer festival. If you enjoy traditional ales, plus a fridge full of craft and continental beers this is the best in Bedford
N. E.
Great decor, lovely beers, very friendly and welcoming, however, the barmaid was the only woman in the pub, full of people like me, old blokes. That said, I will be back again tomorrow
D. N.
Always an excellent selection of beers, ciders and some porters to cater for all tastes that are maintained to exceptional standards
