From the moment we walked in we had a lovely warm welcome from the lovely (Gina). She was very accommodating to our needs especially after our prior bad experience with TGI down the road. We was also greeted with a lovely welcome from (George ) Within 10 mins of us seating we were served with drinks and orders taken. The service is like 5* the food was VERY nice the presentation was on point. The communication throughout our dining experience was very accommodating. I’ll definitely recommend this place to dine to anyone especially if I’m back in this area I’ll be looking out for Gina and George.

An excellent pub for fine dining. Ample seating outside and inside the pub catered to your needs. An excellent array of drinks for different occasions. Love the way the whiskeys are arranged at the bar This place has a great menu and the quality of food served is excellent. You feel like you are being served in a 5 start restaurant. We were served by Theresa who had a good knowledge of the food choices and always had a smile. There was individual attention given to every guest. I would go back to this place in a jiffy to try other dishes in the menu

Went to the Garden House for the first time tonight. The service was superb, the food was fantastic. I explained my dietary requirements to Sharon, and she took the time to go through various options available to me. I went with the sirloin steak with salad and a mushroom/peppercorn sauce. It was delicious and just what I wanted. Sharon went out of her way to ensure that I was catered for and looked after. All the other staff were friendly and welcoming. First impressions count with me, and as such I will be back. Thank you to Sharon and the team at The Garden House, you certainly ticked all my boxes.

December 2021. Had a lovely Christmas Day meal at The Garden House. Very friendly and attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. Sharon in particular was very professional whilst still being friendly and looked after our large party from beginning to end of our dinner making it a lovely Christmas Day. The younger children of the group were catered for well too and were each given a selection box before we left, which was a lovely touch. Have already started recommending here to people! Would definitely come again. Thank you!

I love the decor here, the dark wrinkled wooden beams, warm lighting, makes you feel right at home (I don't have this at home 😅). Plenty of veggie/vegan options, I enjoyed the Veggie Kofta, Beetroot burger, the alcohol free Mojito was great. The Garden House is a local favourite of ours. In honesty, the food is either gorgeous or just ok which is a shame. The service however is always brilliant. Always pleasantly greeted and seated quickly. All staff are friendly and you feel looked after. Today, Theresa was our server and she was fantastic. So friendly, made us feel really comfortable and welcome, she was attentive and fun! She is an asset to your team!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat in-between visits to Birmingham eye hospital (approx 2 miles away)...plenty of parking, looked after by Theresa who sat us by the fire. Very attentive. Had fish + chips using Tesco Chef and Brewer voucher...great food.. would use again...nice atmosphere in pub and all diners appeared well looked after. Visited Garden House (Hagley Rd) for my husband’s birthday (party of 8 people 5 adults, 3 children).. The food was great! We had: Mixed Grill, Fish & Chips, Signature Chicken, Steak and 2 kids meals. However, the star of our afternoon was Sam O our waitress. She was so patient, polite and professional. Nothing was too much for her! Garden House has always been our go-to family restaurant (we miss Carol though) and Sam O is an asset to the team. Garden House,- Thank you for being a consistently great restaurant with fabulous food and amazing staff.

Visited today for the first time. I'll start with the positives. The building is beautiful, and the décor is very tasteful. The food is amazing! I had the slow roasted rib of beef. It was gorgeous. The meat fell off the bone with ease. I highly recommend you try this. Unfortunately, the reason two stars are missing is because the service was dreadfully slow and it seemed to get slower as the place emptied! It took 40 minutes after being seated for someone to take our order. It took just about as long after our main course for someone to take our dessert order. At the end of the meal, I had to request the bill 3 times and then I still had to wait 20 minutes. I honestly think no one would have noticed if we'd just walked out without paying, because it felt like we'd been forgotten about. All in all I was in there for 2 and half hours for just 2 courses, which may not seem a long time, but most of that was spent waiting.

The Garden House hosted an 18th birthday party for 24 of us this afternoon. From start to finish, they were really helpful and accommodating, food was lovely, and service was excellent. We’d particularly thank Theresa and Gina for all they did. We would wholeheartedly recommend the Garden House!!!

We were a group of 3 hungry ladies looking for a meal after a hard day watching the tennis at Edgbaston Priory. Despite being very short staffed and having a limited menu, the manager looked after us very well and he and the 2 other staff (chef and bar person) should be commended for their hard work and professionalism in such difficult circumstances. All 3 of us had the seafood platter, which was well cooked and delicious and really hit the spot. We managed tasty desserts and the manager even donated a bit of milk to us for our breakfast in the Airbnb! 😁

We arrived on time and was promptly taken to our seats, the guy who served us was very welcoming as we're all the staff that worked there thank you. The room was warm and open bit not too open that it like it wasn't cosy. We were given our drinks quickly as well as the 3 courses that we had chosen. There was no lag between courses and the attention to detail was second to none. As you can see from my options they looked and tasted delicious too. The price of the meal was fair for the food overall I can't complain and would be happy to go here again with family and friends. There was a mix of couples, groups and all ages and although it has a pub feel it did come across as like a restaurant too. Why not 5 stars? For my 5 it needs to blow me away so this is a strong 4!

The food and service are very, very good, but not the best. The food is not so expensive, but it's definitely better to go and eat during some special hours. I think that the drinks should be a little bit cheaper. Still, I recommend that place.

Had an early dinner at the Garden House before going to a show in Birmingham. Would definitely recommend. We had the sharing platter starter and everything was amazing, even the vegetables were super tasty. The mains were perfect and the desserts were incredible. The Halloween decorations were up and they added to the whole experience. Our server was Sharon and she was lovely and attentive. Would definitely recommend coming here for a meal.

Quick update to the below; I must stress how amazing Sharon is who is dedicated and caring and not just on the day of the Wake (see below) but on every occasion that I have been at this pub. I needed additional information and a complete VAT receipt and after a little delay, Sharon got it resolved. Thank you! I have had reason to hold another wake and I chose the Garden House on Hagley Road because from the moment I went back in I felt welcomed and well looked after. (I have been there several times in past and always had a great experience). The planning of the wake was straight forward and during that stage, I ate at the pub twice and on both occassions the food & service was outstanding. The wake itself went extremely well and the kindness and care offered by Alan, (GM), George (assistant GM - I believe), Sharon, Mark and Team was just wonderful. They were attentive and worked hard throughout and I just felt they really cared and the whole event was handled amazingly and there was plenty of food (albeit I did over order but they kindly provided takeaway boxes to prevent waste) - overall really they were just outstanding. I highly recommend you try this lovely pub and see for yourself.

We used this pub a lot before lockdown for mid week lunches and always excellent. We went for Sunday lunch and I had the slow cooked beef rib which was delicious, so tender it fell off the bone. Our friends had the slow cooked pork, one day as perfect, the other was tough and under cooked. Puddings of fruit crumble were good and nice coffee. Booking on line was easy and they honoured our special needs. Service was friendly . Large car park at rear, disabled at front. It was extremely busy and therefore quite noisy.

Only thing that prevented giving a 5 star rating was that I asked for a salad without anchovies and the waiter took note of this but when the salad arrived there were anchovies were still in the dish. I did eat around them and it was a lovely salad but for next time would prefer without as asked. Will be recommending to friends :)

Well! What a surprise! For the prices on the menu you could be forgiven for expecting average portions and average quality. The Garden House was very good on both counts. The service provided by Sharon was very good as well - tonight was the first time I have had a member of staff come to the table and say that our meal was next, just being plated and.....we hadn't even been waiting that long up to that point! Good service all round!

Four of us ordered their famous fish and chips with peas. Fish filed the plate and the batter is so crisp. Good variety of starters, service brilliant. Good value for money Been back there two weeks ago and frankly I would never go there again. One cook (not a chef) on Friday lunch time. And one waitress , No service everything we ordered didn't happen Fish and chips the biggest failure. Soggy under cooked and suddenly tasted more like Pollock than cod. Got food we hadn't ordered and really everything that was delivered to our table had to be changed. Custard instead ice cream ,and the coffee bog standard stuff as coffee maker out of order. Waited for everything. Finally we left cash on the bar as we were tired of waiting for a bill despite our numerous requests They should either have taken no more orders or put all diners in one area. Or better just closed the restaurant completely.

By name + nature - a beautiful watering hole with a huge green space . Huge garden hidden away from the main road 2 minutes from the main city centre. Great spot on a sunny afternoon. Pub also caters for privates parties which can be separated from main public space.

My 1st meal there, for my 60th. 1 meal had to be sent back as not hot, other 7 meals were ok, but no one said was great. All deserts were good. The waitress was nice and understanding. Others in the group said this was their worst visit. I guess the kitchen staff had a few issues this visit.

Prior to our recent visit, we would have rated this 5 star without hesitation. We have been visiting regularly over the last 5/6 years. The service by Theresa and ambience still is but the main course was not it's usual high standard(Sunday Roast). The food appeared as if it was through on the plate, presentation was poor and beef was rubbery. I was deeply disappointed.

Great place to eat and you can take your Dog too. We have just had a puppy in the family and our 1 year old too who hates being left. So it was great to be able to go out and take them with us. My husband and I had the night off from my son who was out, so my husband asked where do you want to go for a meal the first place I said was here, it did not disappoint. Excellent food and service. Our waitress was Teresa was brilliant she was very helpful and friendly and had good sense of humour. The fire alarm went off in the middle of our meal and staff were good at putting us at our ease, there were a few small children who were scared, but staff reasured them and the children were happy. We have been going here for years and introduced my family to the place a long while ago and they love it, my dad is very fussy where he eats, however he loves it here. We may even come here for fathers day if we decide to eat out.

We have been dining as a small group at the Garden House for a around 3 years, usually on a monthly basis. We all enjoy the food, and like to take advantage of any coupon discounts. The menu is to all tastes, and the set price menu is good value when needed. My favourite is the Sea Bass Florentine, always so tasty, followed by a generous serving of ice cream. We took advantage of the recent discounts to try the more expensive dishes, such as the lamb choices, all very successful, We mostly get looked after by Sam, who is the very best waitress there. She is friendly, but efficient, and she remembers who we are and our likes and dislikes with food and drinks. It is always difficult for the organiser to work out who owes what when the bill comes, but Sam makes sure it’s made easy by working out separate bills when this helps. Nothing is too much trouble, and we always look forward to her friendly welcome, especially since Covid days have made things more difficult for everyone. Went here for Sunday roast. The drinks were good, the food was mediocre however. I had the turkey, which was fine, but the potatoes were chewy and tasted like they'd been sitting for quite a few hours before being served. The Yorkshire puddings were very dry too. My girlfriend has the chicken burger which many people in our group who ordered it said it was also pretty tough and didn't taste great. That said, we've been here before when they've had better days and the building itself is nice.

Loved the food, but service was not the best. The bar and kitchen seemed to be struggling with the orders. First another tables order was brought to our table, then when our correct meal did arrive it was wrong. I asked for the starter to come out with he main and it did not, leaving our mains going cold on the side in the kitchen. Fortunately another staff member (Leon, great customer service btw) remembered my request and went and got our mains. Four tables were waiting on drinks and Leon was repeatedly apologising for their wait. My order must have got lost as my drink did not arrive at all. This is my first visit to this establishment and what a pleasant experience it was. My friend and I started with a pink gin and tonic before ordering a sea bass and rice with seafood combo and my friend had the chicken in a basket with fries and a side salad. The food was excellent and very well presented, being good value for money. It was a pleasure to able to sit down, eat, relax and drink without being harassed by drunks, junkies and beggars in a nice environment. We both had a rum based bread pudding with hot custard for dessert 🍰 and finished the evening with another glass of pink gin and tonic before setting off for home. Well worth a look and visit.

I'll give an honest review of this pub based on the experience we had when we visited. We visited the pub on the evening of the 5th February. The pub itself has a lot of character with a large open fire in the dining area. Food is good and reasonably priced. When we went it was quite busy but we were seated very quickly. Our drinks and food order was taken very quickly by the girl who was working in the restaurant, our starters and mains came very quickly and like I say, the food was good. Issues arose when we asked for the bill, it took a while for the bill to actually arrive, this was due to the girl in the restaurant being the only member of staff on duty in the restaurant that night, although she was assisted by the bar staff it turns out she was waiting on 14 tables on her own! Personally I think that is too many tables for one person to manage. This is the only thing that let the pub down slightly, maybe the management didn't expect it to be as busy as it was but, I think if somewhere gets busy there needs to be a bit of planning to put more staff in the restaurant. That being said, the girl who was in the restaurant did a sterling job and was as attentive as she could be given that she was managing 14 tables, I applaud her for that.

Found this place when we were down for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Was just a small walk from our hotel. Went on Thursday and Friday Evening. Lovely old pub, the internal space is quite spacious. Decor was contemporary, very clean. Its outside beer garden was good. The lead table server Gail was very courteous, efficient and cheerful. At the end of the evening when the bill was presented there was a discrepancy as there often is with a group of 25. This was handled without fuss. I cant fault the evening and would recommend it as an office/family party venue as we had a room to ourselves. If they put on a 4July bash we'll be there! Visiting Birmingham for the first time staying in a hotel just up the road from this lovely local pub. We attended on an evening when they where short staffed due to a variety of reasons. My partner and myself could not fault the service that we received from our waitress Theresa, even tho she was really busy she still took the time to make us feel welcome and apologised for any deals with service. The food was fantastic very fresh, had the homemade feel. We chose to eat from there evening menu selecting the chicken liver pate for starters with sourdough bread, all of which seemed to be made fresh on site and not brought pre prepared. For mains my partner had fish and chips which also was very nice and seemed to be fresh prepared. I had the sea bass and scollops on prawn and pea risotto which was equally as nice and again seemed freshly prepared. For dessert I had a chocolate and raspberry torte which was definitely a homemade dessert very rich in flavour. Overall if we are to visit Birmingham again we will definitely revisit the garden house, we will also recommend to friends and family if they are to visit.

Not been here in nearly a decade. Used to come regular for the lamb shank. Well the decor has chsnged completely. Food was spot on as was the service. I has the chicken gourmet burger. It was cooked to perfection. Can't complain will definitely be back again within the decade.

The Garden House is a spacious and comfortable pub with a pleasant rear garden if the weather is nice. Service is efficient and friendly. The menu at lunchtime has a reasonable variety at moderate prices. Parking is plentiful.

This is a really nice pub with very friendly staff. The atmosphere is friendly but there is good distance between tables so you feel on your own not part of someone else's party. The menu is huge and has some great offers. For starters my wife had a prawn cocktail as she is very old school. The Prawn Cocktail was huge and had at least 40 prawns (seriously and.very tasty with a Marie Rose sauce and lettuce. A couple of pieces of bread for less than a fiver (if I remember correctly). I had three large Calamari rings they were lightly battered served with a small salad with a dressing and Tartare sauce. The Tartare sauce was probably wrong option a good aoli would have been better or a couple of wedges of lemon. The mains were massive the wife had Cod,Chips and Mushy peas portion was huge and tasted delicious served old style on a paper and even a wooden chip fork which are nice touches. The burger and drink for a £10 was massive a well cooked burger, bacon,cheese, and a fried egg on top on a brioche bun with fries and coleslaw. Cooked perfectly tasted wonderful but a killer on the diet well something deserve a cheat day this was one. Whole meal with soft drinks and coffees under £35 which is great value. If ever in the area and fancy a nice traditional meal pop into the Garden House.

Went to a birthday party. A busy place on the Hagley Road so we went by taxi more convenient for us. Parking space for drop and pick up. Drink expensive but it is Birmingham food ok but a little disappointing. It was a buffet the meals served in pub looked great need to try it.

Good service. Our table was neatly set and ready for our meal. All cutlery, crockery and glass wear was clean. The service was cheerful, punctual but most of all effective. Solid selection of wines, gins, soft drinks etc. Includes traditional beverages. Not many locally sourced. The menu has a good selection of what would be considered gastro pub classics. It has a nice selection of vegetarian meals, one gluten free meal but you could make others gluten free and one vegan set meal but again you could make others vegan with a few edits. Good selection of condiments. Fish and chips and vegetarian fish were both firmly liked. The award winning gammon was very well enjoyed. The lasagna was enjoyed. As was the steak pie. The vegetarian burger was well liked. Improvements suggested were a little less mayonnaise in the cold slaw. Parking is around the back and front. The path needs to be considerably better lit for safety and also will allow people to park neater and create more spaces naturally. It is accessible via bus station the stop is right outside. Or train station and a short walk from Fiveways. It's on a main road so well lit. Enjoyable night. Will be returning.

You'd think it was difficult to find a relatively intimate setting for dinner just a stones throw from Hagley Road, but the garden house accomplishes just that. Good food catering both to gastros and healthy eaters, real ale or fine wines, the meal is whatever your mixed bag of friends desires. Even when busy, noise levels are low enough to hold a decent conversation. Can't give it a higher recommendation than to say it's where I brought my new prospective in laws knowing I wouldn't be let down!

I had lunch here this afternoon, food was okish nice decor and seeming nice, however the roast potatoes where not great or roasted and had clearly plated without the golden crisp that roasted potatoes should have. I was content as I was hungry, my disappointment came when I saw the dinning room manager (assumed)but did note name badge with mark on it , put his hands and driving a young black waitress towards a table to deliver food ,the witness had been engaged to a customer for a few seconds as he shook her hand and thanked her. only to later hear him (mark)telling other staff member about her poor performance !! unprofessional? in front of customers? not exceptable by any standard I feel. after finishing our meal we went to the bar as my other half was paying the bill , the same guy is now behind the bar and taking orders , my other half handed over money that was snatched from his hand without (mark ) making any eye contact to take money or deliver change , my other half being black also, might there be a connection due to skin colour I ask myself . needless to say we both walked away feeling he was a racist. and extremely unprofessional. .
