Reviews of The Bartons Arms
D. C.
Welcome to Birmingham. Welcome to The Bartons Arms.
I usually, when visiting a pub, I take a couple of quick photos of the pub sign and walk in. At the Barton Arms I didn't know where to point my camera. There was so much to delight the eyes. The red brick building occupies a substantial space on the corner of the high street in Aston. As you look around outside, remember to look up and up again. The beauty continues well beyond its second floor.
The eye candy continues as you enter. The ceiling is high. The centre piece is the fine rounded wooden bar area. The eyes are carried to the grand staircase and sparkle as they take in the decorative percaline wall craft. To the right is a beautiful 19th century style bar. To the right is the restaurant, fashioned out of the original lounge area. The stain glass window at the far end of the restaurant is awesome.
I was sat at a table that was more accustomed to resting a pint on than a dish. The service was attentive and accurate. I felt it could have been more relaxed, smiley to bring that warmth I enjoy.
The food arrived quickly. The Bartons Arms offer great examples of Thai cuisine. Very flavoursome. At lunch time an express lunch is offered. For £10.50, you can order a starter and main. Excellent value for money. I couldn't argue about the quality of the food. I would love to see the dishes presented differently. Do away with the standard white crockery. What about some 2 tone coloured fine china. Try some variations on the presentation of the food too.
The Bartons Arms is a hidden gem in Birmingham. A pub I would happily recommend to anyone visiting our humble city. The Thai food it offers is excellent value for money. Some food and service presentation tweaks would make The Barton Arms be the Thai Restaurant of choice in Birmingham.

🍺 This pub has been able to survive the challenges of time, cost increases, weather and the plague. The BARTON ARMS PUB is of a period where ENGLAND & the BRITISH ESSENCE shone through in the actual building 👷♂️ of elaborate buildings structured to last forever & additionally displaying 🇬🇧 the ENGLISH WEALTH & GREAT ARCHITECTURE 👏
🍺 it's a COSY SPOT with a different feeling when you're actually INSIDE the pub HAVING a 🍸 DRINK with FRIENDS and ENJOYING living 😊
M. H.
Great food served by friendly attendtive staff and a good choice of beers. Had the set menu, a very nice selection of starters and mains in a great setting. A great pub on the edge of Birmingham city centre and well worth a visit.
K. G.
Lovely restaurant, food was beautiful staff friendly.

The food was amazing I would recommend this place if you like thai food i would come to this place once a week
A. R.
Great pub full of old Victorian decoration, stain glass is amazing.
The beer selection is brilliant, and well kept.
food is Thai and is well priced and is excellent, really tasty
H. T.
Great selection of craft beer and ales, been going here for 16 years and they've got better and better. Food has always been brilliant here and the service is always great. Had a half each a guest ale and a milk stout this evening, well worth a visit just for them.
P. W.
A fantastic restaurant with super staff, fabulous food and amazing ales, it’s the only place to find authentic Thai food, we have tried all of the others and there is no comparison.
P. B.
Fantastic food, service, atmosphere and great real ale too. Superb!
G. Y.
Popped in for a pint on the way back from a tour around Aston Hall. Neither of us had been inside for some time, and we thought a visit was well over due. Managed to park on the rather small car park and were greeted by the wonderful smell of Thai cooking as we approached the Lounge entrance. Rather surprised to find it as busy as it was, with the restaurant area looking almost full. Good range of cask beers on offer so tried one of the excellent bitters. If you love over the top Victorian decor, this has to be on your list.
S. M.
The best kept secret for Villa away . Well behaved Home and away fans mingle in the ornate unspoilt victorian restaurant before each game for an excellent pre match Thai lunch. Advanced booking essential. Adjoining pub bar serves Oakham brewery beer
S. M.
Always lovely food. A good reasonably priced lunch time menu. You could easily have time to eat here during your lunch break
D. f. g.
First time there today and the food is amazing.... Would definitely go again
B. S.
Great traditional pub with good ales and decent Thai food.
M. L.
Never mind being the best pub in Birmingham, this is the best pub in the whole country. Classic pub from the beers to the decor and the food is simply phenomenal. Great on match days, or any day really.
C. B.
Great food Charming service. Beautiful 9ld listed pub
D. W.
Great food, the starter platter to share especially was really delicious, and the prices are not bad as well.
V. L.
Good and quick service, the starters were lovely and the main fantastic. Would definitely visit again 👍🏽
M. V.
Great tasting food served in a beautiful old victorian pub, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, would recommend everyone that likes Thai food gives this venue a go
R. B.
Visited at lunchtime and the place was empty! Such a fabulous building, very well maintained and well presented. I did not expect the decor from the outside. It is apparently a grade 2 listed building. We were seated and served very quickly (as you'd expect being the only ones here 😂) by very polite, pleasant staff. The food was excellent and I really enjoyed the meal we had. Didn't use the bar but this area was in keeping with the rest of the buildings decor. I think I would like to come here for a beer at some point! Would recommend 👍
S. P.
Lovely service, food atmosphere. Always a great experience
E. S.
The Barton Arms is one of the 'must visit' pubs in the country. The decor is beautifully reminiscent of a bygone era. It's been lovingly restored and carefully looked after. I would defy anyone not to have their breath taken away by its splendor.
N. S.
We celebrated my niece’s 16th birthday here as the Thai restaurant we usually go to had shut down. We ended up having a great time. We chose the set menu. Food was served quickly & was tasty. The prawn curry was spicy, just the way I like it.
The decor is Victorian. The seating area is not big but it did not feel crowded. The Staff are polite & helpful & try their best to accommodate your wishes.
I’m sure I will return one day.
H. T.
Loved the food. I have been looking for a place serving good Thai food for a while. We have to travel but I wouldn't mind travelling there again. Though we didn't eat in (due to lockdown), while collecting the food I had gone into the pub and really like the authencity of the it's look. The only downside is I did feel it was pricey and would have like about of a bigger portion for some of the dishes especially the Tom yum soup ( which was very tasty) but I would eat there again as I like the food.
p. r.
Brilliant. Would definitely reccomend. Food excellent. Staff really polite and friendly. The owner was helpful to nice bloke.defo be back.thanks for a lovley afternoon. Evening.
I. M.
Great food in a great venue. Good atmosphere too.
r. R.
Thoroughly recommend this is a fantastic pub the decor is something to behold. The Oakham Ales beer is excellent, the Thai food we could not fault. Staff are very friendly, service quick, ample parking. A nice touch was fresh flowers on every table. Please don't ever change - loved our visit and all the previous ones looking forward to the next time.
D. B.
Packed ahead of football and so very busy. Food none the less came quickly and beer was good.
S. P. C.
Popped in for a drink last week. I love that place. @Newtown @The Drum
D. W.
Another triumph of a visit, good beer, great food & fab staff!!
A. S.
Great meal and service in amazing historic surroundings.
M. K.
Authentic Thai food in a beautiful building
If you want an authentic Thai meal then this place is the place to go.
Food was excellent...couldn't fault our meal (we had the vegetarian platter, squid, Beef Massaman curry, Prawn Green Curry and the coconut rice) the food came out hot in a reasonable time, looked good and tasted superb.
The beer is also brilliant, lots to choose from and they have some really good real ales.
The service was efficient....not the friendliest but it's ok.
The area isn't the best (you already know this) but it doesn't matter, the building itself is stunning inside and out and the food is fantastic....so that more than makes up for the location.
Don't drive past and think I must try this place one day....like I did for years, just go in and enjoy!
G. M.
Awesome old pub with great beer and thai food we will be returning to do the tour
J. M.
This site is my preferable place. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this restaurant. when I I need a delicious lunchon, this restaurant comes straightaway to my mind. extremely good and all sorts of food and a large list of dishes.well mannered staff members, and good ambience. Also, the pay is decent. I praise this spot with no doubt.
M. F.
Nice lil pub food so so... Little expensive for what you get.
R. D.
Came here on a Friday evening. Based in the Barton Arms Pub which is a listed building and still holds its old features and charm. Staff are pleasant and the food is nice though I'd say portion sizes are a little skimpy considering the prices. Other than that no real complaints. What was nice though is that towards the end of our evening a live duo struck up a song or two in the bar area - totally unexpected surprise and apparently they are there performing every last Friday of every month. A hidden gem people should check out if your into Thai food and quaint surroundings.
C. S.
Great place to eat and drink staff always helpful
N. P.
Historically important pub in Aston, a short distance north of the city centre. Surrounded by 1960/70s ugly buildings but don't let that put you off. Dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Hosted comedy duo Laurel and Hardy when they performed at the now lost Aston Hippodrome across the road. They have a good range of well kept beers. Service is very good. They have a good reputation for Thai food. Worth a visit.
r. s.
I have been going to this pub/restaurant for many years. Surroundings are interesting and the food excellent. Fridays and weekends probably advise able to book if you are eating. They do a good lunchtime menu too. Good choice of beers/wines/spirits.
I. B.
There's an old saying..."Never judge a book by it's cover" and this pub is a typical example of this saying. This is a listed building with a lot of history, you will be surprise when you go inside, original decor, great beer, polite staff and a Thai restaurant. Do try the food it's delicious, you can eat for a tenner on Tuesday evenings and they now serve two courses on one plate at lunchtime for £10.95 which i tried and enjoyed. You can book guided tours and birthday, wedding, anniversary and other special celebrations upstairs. So if you love history, ale drinker, enjoy eating thai food cooked and served by great staff, then i highly recommend you visit the Bartons arms, you won't be disappointed.😄👍
T. B.
Superb Heritage pub with ornate decor throughout and an amazing stained glass window. Very comfortable feel in the bar where real ales from Oakham brewery dominate in addition to one guest ale. Staff are always willing to show you around if it is not too busy. If you are in Birmingham this is a must visit. Very good Thai food is served both in the bar and various other eating areas.
M. W.
Lovely food and reasonably priced
p. s.
Very good tour plus great food
D. B.
It's still great. Food is excellent. Beer is too. Lovely people work there. Still top three pub in Brum.
N. T.
Love this pub. Congratulations to the new owners on keeping this beautiful pub as a going concern in these difficult times. Happy to see JHB still on tap even though Oakham Ales are no longer involved.
k. l.
Came here with family where I took my nan out for a belated birthday dinner. The staff were lovely and really helpful as my nan isn't the easiest of people. Food was lovely and to spec. Cocktails also looked amazing 👌
A. W.
Love this little hidden gem. The best Thai food I've ever had, in fact this is the only place I go to for Thai food. Great service, exceptional food and reasonably priced. On Tuesdays there is a special offer of two courses for £10 (set menu)great if you want good food on a budget.
R. S.
Brilliant pub, a nice selection of Oakham Real ales and Architecture to rival a Cathedral.
This pub is so worth a visit, I had already eaten early but the Thai food smelled fantastic.
Seeing is believing with this place, make time to look around and admire the work that must have gone into this place.
G. Ż.
Not the best Thai food... I was excited to see the place because I knew it is in an old historic pub. And the interior looks great, with lot of old fittings and fixtures, full of character. Unfortunately, the food was boring, small portions, too much fat or oil, not as hot as you would expect from a Thai restaurant. Disappointing... One thing on the bright side - it is not expensive. Overall experience - just ok, but I don't think I will be going back there soon.
A.
Good thai food and beers
S. W.
Love this place , been going for years always consistent good simple Thai food it's not complex but homely cook food . Aways tastes fresh and is piping hot.lovely beers too. Nice pub love the history this place has .
C. K.
Fantastic food and service. Landed early for an Aston Villa home match and it was mobbed. No compromise on flavour or freshness, though. Great start to what I hope will be a successful evening #UTV
A. F.
All guest ales - not bad !! Thai food was very fresh and tasty. The place is steeped in theatrical history. One of the last pubs of its kind in Birmingham. Well worth a visit. No parking area!!
S. S.
Well worth a Visit!!! Just walking in the pub is like stepping back in time to the victorian era, with glazed tiled wall ornate stairway & stained glass windows, as to what's on offer!! The owner as it spot on!!! Great selection of traditional beers lagers&ciders, & the food on offer is Thai with Thai staff serving, its always a great start to my Saturday before going to the football!!!, its so pleasing to see an old pub making it work,we will return over & over again, thankyou😊
L. H.
This restaurant has first-rate service as well as delightful menu. One of my favourite restaurants in town. The drinks and food arrived quickly and the prices are reasonable. Will definitely recommend this place.
C. B.
When we saw the appearance of this restaurant, we did not expect to find authentic Thai food here!! The food is amazing. Best Thai food I ever have in Birmingham. Also good selection of craft ales to match with your dishes.
K. W.
Beautiful food served in one of Birmingham's listed buildings. Full of charm and the service delightful. The thai veggie set menu was wonderful, regular visits will be made.
P. S.
Great pub, visited before a football match. The Oakham beers are great and the thai food is reasonably priced. The staff were attentive even during an extremely busy time. Great real ales in an authentic "real pub" environment. Home fans very welcoming.
K. S.
Traditional pub with a superb Thai restaurant attached. Excellent food and a wide range of real ales. Car parking available. Staff in the restaurant are particularly welcoming and efficient. Will definitely return
E. S.
Food is fantastic a hidden gem
R. H.
For people who love local history, booking a Monday pub tour is great with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. The pub is beautiful and some of the best Thai food I've had in Birmingham. Will definitely be returning.
R. C.
Wonderful grade II listed building. Amazing Oakham Ales. Friendly staff, which makes it a real local. The Thai food is high quality and tasty. Areal historic gem with a Thai twist.
H. T.
Massive old pub with the most beautiful interior (tiles/old school glass separators at the bar) and a good line in Thai food. Real ales available at the bar.
The lunch menu is good value at £10.95 for a starter and a main.
r. p.
Brilliant place they do a lunchtime meal deal 10.95. Gorgeous historical dining room. Drink are reasonably priced deffo recommend . Staff are really nice and polite.
B. W.
One of the best pubs in Birmingham. Such a beautiful building, serving really good beers and with excellent Thai food. And all the staff are brilliant. A wonderful, historic place. Highly recommend!
V. C.
Nice places , courteous staff. Food is tasty but need be bit more improvement. Grade II listed building is a marvel . Perfect place for a Sunday lunch
J. B.
Visited the Barton Arms today with my family and gran kids what can i say this place is a little gem in the center of worsley the food was fantastic with a great selection on the menu my wife is vegan and to my surprise they have a vegan menu unbelievable not many places cater for peoples life style choices well done. I love my cask ale and there were four to choose from wainwrights, peerless , Ember and ghost ship I treated myself to three pints while we were here my wife had a couple of glasses of there oyster bay wine. I would give the Barton Arms 6 stars if i could. I have heard mixed reviews about this place and all i can say is skip past the negative and try for yourself
D. G.
great interior and service. A must-visit
B. S.
Good beer and the toilets are easy to find unlike Spoons.
D. K. S.
i can tell Thomas Shelby was hangout here often, back then. Gorgeous building and exceptional Thai food!
A. T.
Was lovely but wish there was other style of food and also stuff suitable for kids something plain as my son didn't like it as it all had spice in it. But great environment and great people. Shame just thai food.
C. P.
LOVE this place. However, kitchen hours are unacceptable - we always miss out on the Thai food by 4 minutes. The Oakham beers are wonderful, just don't order anything else.
J. E.
Tremendous heritage pub. Oozing history and class. Great selection of beers and the Thai fare is a welcome addition. Deserves visitation
T. D. (.
Superb ales, awesome food, great people!
T. D.
Lovely food great atmosphere
D. F.
1st Time and Food was Decent.. Fresh , Hot and Spicey Full of Flavour
N. O.
This is a wonderful grade 2 listed building that does Thai food. Word of warning though, even though they food is 5 stars, not all these vegi options are vegi because they include fish paste!
Nice staff, reasonable selection of beer n cider.
M. E.
I absolutely love the Bartons Arms, the staff is very friendly and lovely and the food is gorgeous! The chef is really good and the ambient is amazing. I really recommended it if you like good food and a well kept pint!!! 🍻
R. B.
Great real pub however it gets very crowed on Villa match days
S. T.
Beautiful pub!
Food was nice however we waited a long time as we watched tables that came after us eat and leave before our food even arrived...and I got given the wrong drink
However, the food when it arrived was good and for that reason I would return to try it again
M. K.
This pub is famous for hosting Laurel & Hardy when they visited, typically very busy when Aston Villa are playing. This pub is owned by Oakham Ales so you will see all of their current beers sold here. The beers are often hoppy and rarely do you see a dark beer. They also serve guest ales to complement the house beers. This is also a Thai restaurant and the food is excellent. The pub still possesses most of the original Victorian fittings so well worth a look around.
B. S.
Best Thai food I've ever eaten
C. N.
Fantastic traditional pub great selection of real ale and guest beers , haven't tried anything off the tai menu but looks good . Friendly pre match pint this is the place .
M. B.
A real gem, a great Victorian pub with some fantastic real ales.
As for the for food in my mind some the best Thai food outside of Thailand
All the staff are very friendly and helpful.
It's on my list of pubs.
K. D.
The menu and service were above my expectations. We truly liked the atmosphere of this place. Extraordinary place to take my family out for lunch.
P. R.
Classic Heritage pub. Outstanding building with tiled walls and ornate features. Enjoyed. Top draw Thia food. Rioja was excellent .in CAMRA good beer guide
K. R.
Full of character, nice little gem of a pub.
Wasn't expecting to eat oriental food in a old fashion style pub. Don't knock it until ya try it. Food and Beer is nice and took me by surprised!
D. L.
Amazing Food And Great Ale
D. S.
They offer a great variety of delicious food. I like dining here. The employees are always very kind, prices are fair and the spot is always neat.
G. R.
The food was delicious and the building is full of interesting period features. I had Tung Tong Jay followed by Black Peppered Vegetables from the Tuesday £10 set menu, and it was an absolute bargain.
S. A.
Good Food, Very Nice environment. Very Nice People. Thankyou very much.
I would suggest that you re-consider your rather out of date policy not to accept contactless payments less than £10. I think you will find more and more people will find this unacceptable.
R.
You cannot beat this place if you want to go for Thai food in Birmingham. The restaurant has an amazing history going back to the days of Laurel and Hardy, who stayed the night there once!
G. I.
Probably the best pub in Birmingham. Amazing food, great beer, great people.
Z. N.
great service and fast too - the food came very quickly even though the place was crowded after a Villa match. great selection, but can be pricy because rice and noodles have to be ordered separately with most dishes.
A. R.
Food is always amazing
R. C.
Quality Pub with interesting Thai food, good most of the times but can be pricey depend what you choose. Both, Chef & Front House are Thai. Good Ales selection
M. m.
Beautiful old pub, the staff are a bit surly and for some reason they want to bring your meal all in one go i.e. starter and main. Beer is ok and the food is ok. Bit disappointed to be honest.
J. F.
Love this place. Nice quick service. Staff are efficient and polite. Food is fresh... and mouth watering... shame they don't do deserts... would of been 5☆ if they had
B. P.
A vast array of drinks to chose from and an astonishingly good Thai menu cooked by Thai peoole. A very relaxed atmosphere with a dazzling interior filled to bursting with very detailed & ye olde decor. 😎
S. L.
Very quiet this evening. Three main Oakham Ales on: JHB, Citra & Inferno blonde.
All kept very well. Citra was on eventually as the barrel was being changed as we arrived. Service was ok, although there were few people in on this Wednesday night. Samples weren't offered, however if you ask the bar staff, they will oblige. Still got bags of character.
J. S.
wonderful old pub...real ale..history...interior tiles are unique
G. L.
What a beautiful Victorian building, a friendly welcome, warm atmosphere, and to top it all off the Thai food is amazing, we had a set meal and the variety and tastes are amazing, the service is really good and the food was served quickly, we will be back very soon, thanks
M. H.
Some of the best Thai food in Birmingham, with a great atmosphere. Fairly priced, with a good selection of ales from the main bar, I can't recommend this place enough.
H. Y.
Wow the careful choices of Thai spice and Thai ginger ( you know how good it is when accidentally bit on it) used in the dishes...you know the chef is someone different! Too bad this place isn't near home or twice a week dinning for sure!!!
J. W.
Love this place, love the decor, love the food, always happy to eat here
l. t.
Excellent combination of a pub and an authentic Thai restaurant. Best Pad Thai in the city. Prices are moderate but totally reflect the quality of the plates.
A.
About the last survivor of Aston's once busy commercial centre that once stretched from the top of Corporation Sit almost to Perry Barr. And what a gem. Worth a visit just to stand in the entrance, look around, and think.
Includes a working bar and a Thai Restaurant. Parking.
K. B.
No complaints here as I love this pub. An outlet for Oakham Ales and not far from where I work. Always a friendly feel and good quality beer.
R. F.
Absolutely love this pub with all its history and still kept to that standard a place you can switch off from all the worlds problems gonna make this pub a regular visit I recommend.
R. J. C.
Adore this pub - best in Birmingham.
P. M.
Affordable Thai food and Oakham Ales. The food is good but very much tailored to standard western tastes so not very spicy and too much sugar used in my dish.
S. T.
Really nice food 4 stars due to lack of drink choice
A. B.
Fabulous food, great with young children, really good selection of real ale and the atmosphere is relaxing. All in all a great experience.
T. C.
A fantastic combination: a real ale pub and a Thai restaurant with high standards. Their tempura batter is so amazingly delicate
a. e.
A most beautiful establishment. An atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. Wonderful real ales Thai food at its best. The pub everyone would wish was their local!
L. Y.
Unsuspecting. That's the word that springs to mind here. What looks like a fairly typical old-world pub on the outside, is for one, exactly that on the inside with it's high vaulted ceilings, but also, a high quality thai food restaurant! It's not up there with the BEST, but very worth a visit. Food was well presented, very well timed, fresh, tasty and served by excellent staff.
D. G.
20 minutes from Villa Park, lively on Match day great ales and beers and a spot of Authentic Thai Cuisine for lunch. What's not to like?
S. W.
Great food and service
L. D.
Brill Thai food 4 2.
I. F.
Wonderful pub selling a good range of quality ales. Friendly staff. Did not eat this time but Thai food looks superb.
A. F.
Brilliant place to have food
K. H.
What an incredible place. Fantastic food at a great price. The bar staff seem to actually care about what kind of beer they are serving. Fabulous.
N. E.
A must see. The tiling all over this pub is spectacular even in the gents (not been in the ladies). Beer top notch.
M. Q.
One of the best value restaurants in Birmingham. The lunch menu has increased but still has low prices. The food is lovely and the staff are great.
P. G.
Excellent beer selection, very friendly bar staff. Great Thai food - lunch specials are excellent value and very tasty!
M. J.
Great food, friendly staff, great night out.
D. W.
Beautiful pub, stunning decor, food was delicious, real authentic Thai, reasonably priced defo going back.
R. N.
What a hidden gem!
Food is very good at a great price.
The ambience is bright with that quiet relaxed calm that only period buildings provide.
Will be coming back with friends...
C. R.
Great place to eat food delicious
M.
Beatiful pub serving beautiful Oakhams ales and lovely Thai cuisine. If you're in Brum it's a must.
M. K.
Always good quality tasty Thai food authentic like been back in Thailand.

Built in 1900-1901 by noted pub architects partnership James and Lister Lea forMitchells & Butlers, it is a grade II listed building, and is on the Campaign for Real Ale'sNational Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
The pub is known for its wall-to-wall Minton-Hollins tiles and its snob screens, which allowed middle class drinkers to see working class drinkers in an adjacent bar, but not to be seen by them. The current public bar was originally divided into three. There are function rooms upstairs, originally for billiards and club use.
Laurel and Hardy once stayed there, after appearing at the adjacent Aston Hippodrome (now demolished, replaced by The Drum Arts Centre), and were photographed serving beer from behind the bar.
The pub features in the 1999 Atom EgoyanBirmingham-set film Felicia's Journey. It also features in the 2006 novel by Ron Dawson,The Last Viking: The Untold Story of the World's Greatest Heist; as the gang of robbers meet in the pub.
It was purchased in 2002 by Oakham Aleswho restored the building to its former greatness before reopening it in 2003, after three years out-of-use. On 28 July 2006, the pub was damaged by fire, reportedly caused by an electrical fault.
During the 2011 England riots, the pub was looted, windows were smashed, and fires started, albeit quickly doused by the manager, Wichai Thumjaron. Up to eight shots were fired at police who attended the incident
D. D.
Really nice place, good choice of beers and perfect for eating at lunch. The weekday lunch menu is perfectly fitted for quick and tasty lunch.
D. B.
Great old pub with great atmosphere and architecture.
P. D.
Exotic Thai food in a period city pub. Friendly service with good size servings. Unfortunately no room for dessert.
D. A.
An oasis in Aston. With a heavily tiled interior this Victorian gem of a pub takes one back to its heyday as the tap to the nearby theatre/music hall, now unfortunately long gone. Snob screens also form part of the character of the main bar. Owned by Oakham Brewery, the cask beers are mainly from their range, but they do sell guest beers and the dreaded keykeg. Famous people who have stayed here include Laurel and Hardy. Tours of the pub and its cellars and old music hall room are available on request.
