Reviews of Chaplin's & The Cellar Bar

Didn't stay long enough to give a full review but I'm sure it was headed to a 5 star! Very reasonably priced drinks. Special local ciders and Ales and the usual drinks you can expect at any pub/bar. Very quirky decorated but the feel fits with the live music and company. Will definitely be coming back to stay longer

Brilliant place to go for a drink . Meals looked and smelt nice but we didn't eat on this occasion( we did visit 3 times the same day as we liked it so much we came back pre match -post match and late evening ). Great atmosphere one of those all welcome and you actually feel like you fit in. Lots of weird and wonderful things hidden about the place to see starting with quotes on walls to limmericks in the toilets . Lots of different beers wines and spirits to choose from . Staff look like they actually like their job which let's face it doesn't happen often . The only down side were the toilets which could do with a bit of cleaning attention .but on saying that they had toilet paper hand towels soap and a working hand dryer . These did get closed at one point and we had unto use down in the cellar toilets awkward stair once you have had a few bit that adds to the kooky style place this is . Plenty of seating out back in the garden using several levels . Overall a great place and a must visit for anyone passing by

We stopped in for lunch and I had a lovely home made vegan pattie with chips. The food was really nice with a definite home cooked feel and taste. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a wheelchair user with us and although there was a bit of a step to get into the entrance the staff and customers made way for us and offered help where needed. The music was quiet enough so we could chat. Nice big farmhouse type wooden tables with plenty of room for the food and drinks. Not tried downstairs yet but will do as there was a different entertainment on every night. There was also a nice rear garden area and the whole place was done out tastefully in Chaplin era decor. Very nice

Modern Times Restaurant - visited last week and it was by far the best food we have eaten in Bournemouth in a long time! We had the mussels and they were divine! My four year old daughter stole most of them. The portions were wonderful. The desserts even tastier. The wonderful waiter was so welcoming and fantastic with my two small children. I couldn't rave about it more, other then I will and shall to everyone I know in the area. The place i filled with beautiful art (including the floor!), the chef is making outstanding food and the waiting staff make you feel completely at home. What more could you want? Just to eat there every night to be honest.

Magnificent local bar, compact and colourful. Great new dining addition attached upstairs with a lovely private room at the back. Possibly the best beer garden in the world (Google it!) and almost always has live music.

Nice venue. Very unusual. Only popped in for a beer in the cellar bar. That's where they serve the craft beers. The garden areas are great and there's a restaurant section on the left side. Will have to pop back next time we are in town. Also dog friendly before 9.

Completely blown away by the food here. We ate the rarebit, squab, Dorset snails and a wild mushroom and venison pie. I would gladly eat any of these things as my last meal prior to my execution. They effortlessly leverage local ingredients for a delicious and cohesive menu.
The staff is lovely and the decor will keep you looking around all night. Live music every night we were there. Best night out you can have in Boscombe!

Really fun gig here, bar downstairs as well as in the main pub area upstairs. Fun and interesting little venue. The only downside is that it is SO small and I have a feeling they weren't monitoring the number of people downstairs. Incredibly warm because it was so packed (not much can be done there). Bouncers felt a bit power hungry rather than looking out for your safety!

Have always loved the beer garden but hadn’t tried Modern Times restaurant until last night. Good choice of food, well cooked, excellent value and friendly staff. Nice to have somewhere with a bit of character and not a bland chain
