Reviews of The Fox

Came here as a gamble. No reservation. Was given a table and the staff were welcoming and chatty... The chef is incredible. I ordered the sirloin steak medium rare and it was done to perfection. It was better than most fillet steaks I've had at other "steak house" restaurants. The best steak I've ever had! Could not recommended highly enough!!!

1st time visiting The Fox. I would recommend booking as we did. Food was amazing, tasty, presented well and good value for money, staff were so happy, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back!!

Delicious Sunday Lunch spot if you happen to be in the Ogmore area. Came here for my Father’s Birthday he’s a big rugby fan and got to meet Gavin Henson (The Owner) who was kind enough to come over and chat to him so we were well chuffed with that. They also have a roof top terrace which is great spot for a drink on a summers day. My only gripe was the service, which needs improvement, but the food was top notch and definitely worth the visit.

This place has been kitted out in well-appointed fashion and was very busy on a Friday night, which probably led to the long wait for food to arrive. There’s a new small plates concept which is average value for money. The squid and cauliflower (the latter at a perfect tenderness) were first-rate, the beef with truffle mash (not pictured) delicious if a bit pricey for £14 and not medium rare as requested. Croquettes were nice, but be aware only three come on a plate, while the pork belly and mushroom omelette were pleasant. Don’t order the scallops. The (young!) service staff are beleaguered but very assiduous. Do give them a go as they bed this in!

Lovely food, small menu but something for everyone
The pub is nicely decorated and good ambiance.

Top night at The Fox. Food was top draw. Atmosphere was just right. Fair play, Gavin and his wife were in the kitchen helping out. All hands to meet demand! 👏👏

We had a fantastic meal last night 29Th July. Beautifully cooked Lamb and Hake. We honestly have never tasted food so delicious. Lovely friendly staff too 😉 Desserts were completely different too. I had the chocolate and mum had the pineapple. Win win all round and amazing value for money. 👏🏼

Good food, a little pricey but decent quality in fairness, portion sizes are a little tight especially when paying £30 for a steak. Service ok but a little slow , for me rather than have to ask 3-4 times to have a drink it would be nice for the waitresses when serving the table notice there's no drinks and to offer which to me is being attentive to the customer and providing good service. I would go back so look forward to a revisit.

Visited for lunch. The refurbished promises are really good. The staff were friendly helpful and efficient. The food was something special. Congratulations to the chef. My only criticism is that it was a bit pricey for lunch. A 2 course set price at lunch time would be an improvement.
S. D.
We visited last Friday in a large group of 10. Fair play to the kitchen staff, every course was beautiful.
Starter - IoW tomatoes and mozzarella. Fresh and tasty.
Main - Sirloin med/rare. Cooked perfectly and stunning flavour.
Desert- Affogato (kindly made for me, even though it wasn't on the menu).
Dining staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was vibrant.
Thank you for a great evening. 👍🏼

We booked a table for 6.30 and honestly it didn't disappoint. Two girls working upstairs amazing service helpful and very polite. The food was quick and tasted amazing.
Deff call again well worth a visit.
Thank you
P. W. W.
Amazing food, wonderful staff and great decor. Very accommodating with food allergies as well, which was greatly appreciated! The only downside was the incredibly loud pub crew above, otherwise would have been the perfect date night venue. Regardless, will definitely go back!
A. C.
Such a great atmosphere, well made cocktails, good beer and wines and the food is fantastic! Plenty of parking, nice walks and modern yet authentic vibe. Superb 🙌🏼
E. B.
Looks like it's had a bit of a revamp. Nice friendly pub, smart and the dining area looked lovely. We just called in for a pint but will be back to try out the menu 😀
A. C.
The Fox! Well appointed, excellent service good beer and great lunch menu. Food also excellent, fish and chips, cawl, lemon possett and sticky toffee pudding. Nice one Gavin!
J. M.
Lovely food and the Sunday lunch is beautiful

A lovely pub with fine dining.A bit pricey but worth it for a special treat.Lovely staff but not enough of them.
M. A.
First visit to The Fox. Really nice space with good food at a sensible price point. The duck main course was excellent.
S. T. T.
When we visited for Sunday lunch, there were three draft ales on tap. Tried all three ales, and all three in tiptop condition. The Sunday lunch was excellent. We went for the roast beef. Plenty of meat and ample vegetables and gravy. Yorkshire pudding was good. The horse radish sauce was lovely and hot. So be warned. Bottle of good and reasonably priced white wine.
M. H.
I wanted to try this place for quite a while. Finally got there in February 2022 and it didn’t disappoint. Clearly the place has been put together with style and both the bar and restaurant room are set out well. The food was good. We had a slight issue with the service, which our waiter put right without us commenting when the bill arrived. My overarching memory was the value for money - a really well priced menu. Definitely will be returning and trying more dishes.
R. P.
Arrived early afternoon on a Sunday. The place was fully booked but the floor manager found us a table nonetheless. The food came out very quickly and was very high quality. Would recommend!
L. D.
Visited on 26th June for Sunday lunch. Lovely atmosphere and very well laid out
We opted for the lamb roast. The vegetables were delicious but the roast potatoes would have benefited from a few more minutes cooking time. The lamb however was very fatty and sinewy which spoilt the experience and there was very little gravy.
E. S.
Absolutely lovely place, very well decorated... modern yet keeping the history of original stonework... beautiful. Friendly staff, especially Seren who was very kind and helpful.
J. M.
First class food and service went there for the first time on the 16th with friends and will be definitely be going again
Waiting staff were very attentive and could not fault the food
Well done to all staff
R. M.
Didn't have food just stopped for a drink, lovely little pub, nice atmosphere, good selection of beers , nice to see it up and running again,👍
l. f.
Great atmosphere, all three lunch courses were amazing and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend a visit
V. (. G.
Limited menu but good food, had a lovely salad. Great for lunch time
C. E.
Firstly, let's get the positives out of the way. We visited for Sunday dinner, the quality of the food was excellent, starters w re great. The duck liver parfait was amazing. The main was good although could have done with a bit more seasoning.
The negatives....other than the hardest worker in the room which turned out to be the barman upstairs (who took drink orders, food orders, cleared tables and prepped for the next guests) the remainder of the waitresses really need to be retrained. Terrible service with us having to ask to order our food, then had to ask for the extras with the dinner, then had to tidy our own plates up to hint at getting the table cleared, then had to ask again to order the desserts. Waitresses had no idea how to work an area, would be walking past tables needing clearing and wasting trips downstairs. Shame really as I feel the restaurant could be amazing with the correct staff. Well done to the barman upstairs though who did the job of the 3 other waitresses combined.
D. J.
Called in by chance and was surprised how big it was inside. A very smart , yet inviting , place with modern design but old fashion service. Bright bar area , inviting restaurant area which also had a dining area upstairs with its own bar and , probably the best place of all ready for the summer , an outside seating/eating area set above a garage)storeroom ( ? ). We had a snack of squid ,beetroot arancini served on pickled ginger cucumber slices , home cooked chips washed down with a sparkling water and a cider. All on comfortable outside seating in the sunshine. Large car park opposite completed a very enjoyable visit. Highly recommended. Well done Gavin , a winner , will be back for sure with friends.
A. B.
Had drink very friendly atmosphere !!
seating inside and out !! Big car park opposite!! Definitely return
P. B.
Visited on a Friday evening. Enjoyed a really good meal…good service and good atmosphere. Glad to be on the mezzanine as noisy downstairs and rather bright lighting in our minds for restaurant eating Mezzanine really lovely feel and will definitely book upstairs next time we visit.
P. R.
Our first visit to The Fox since being refurbished. Really impressed with the food and service. Very welcoming, natural staff, good background music and prices really not bad considering how good the food is. Definitely return soon.
L. G.
Went with my family last night...if I'm honest, just on the "off chance" of seeing Gavin Henson. We were NOT disappointed. The man himself served our desserts. What a lovely , down to earth guy. That aside, the food was phenomenal, (first time in a very long while, that a chef has managed to present me with a steak as I've asked for it to be cooked). The pub is very tastefully decorated and staff were all friendly. Will definitely visit again.
C. G.
My family and I went to The Fox for lunch today to celebrate my wife's 60th Birthday. First time here and didn't really know what to expect. First the decor - extremely well presented, the owners have done a fabulous job on the renovation. Next the ambience, it felt welcoming the moment we walked in the door, the staff all smiles and so friendly. Great views of the kitchen where it all looked calm and orderly, very professional. The drinks menu was varied and we had no difficulty in choosing ones that we all enjoyed. Finally the food, we had several different starters, the main course of roast beef was the choice of all but one who had the chicken. The food arrived hot, well presented and oh so tasty. It may have been our first visit but it most certainly won't be our last. Thank you the Fox for a thoroughly enjoyable time. You should be very proud with what you have achieved
J. A.
Nice pub quite expensive drinks friendly staff and locals didn't have food but it looked v nice
D. E.
Very friendly pub and staff a little pricey but good value
G. R.
Great little pub in the heart of Wales with sensational food and great staff. Highly recommend
S. J.
WOW! I don't know where to start! Arrived at this destination by accident and so glad we did! Had a wonderful night. We were treated so well by Ruby she was very informative and welcoming. The menu wasn't what we expected for a country pub, the choices were interesting, a selection of Tapas which were presented beautifully and the flavours just hit you! I recommend the 3oz steak, it just melted in your mouth and sauce with it was delicious, the corn ribs were stunning, also had the mushroom crepe and belly pork all very different. How the fabulous Chef created all these different flavours is amazing! Really recommend you try it! So good to see some old friends too! Thank you Fox and Crew really enjoyed
D. W.
The Sunday lunch is exquisite, top marks. Most The staff is young but very PROFESSIONAL. I've been here before and this place has grown in every way. Would definitely recommend a Sunday afternoon out.
A. C.
Very pleasant indeed. Had the salmon starter as a main, and the crumble for afters, spot on.
V. S.
Very nice lunch, service was great but a little bit pricey.
H. J.
Great improvement from the old Fox. Smart new decor, well trained and attentive staff. The food was good and tasteful. The big let down is the noise, when i do lunch i don't want screening children around me. Need too decide if it's going to be pub for "lads" or a serious gastro pub.
J. C.
Just like to say a huge thankyou to all the staff at The Fox, absolutely amazing service. We booked a party booking for 22 people for my husbands 50th Birthday, the hospitality was 1st class and the food was stunning, the Sunday roast amazing and very reasonably price, well done to Gavin and his superb team for a very enjoyable afternoon, kind regards sharon
R. S.
Booked and visited on a Sunday afternoon, food great but service not so much. Not enough staff upstairs meaning the barman was left clearing tables, taking food orders, taking drink orders and trying to manage which was clearly frustrating for everyone. Big shame for a great place.
A. J.
A really lovely pub with friendly staff and excellent ale.
K. J.
Really good experience. Fantastic food and very nice staff
C. J.
Beautiful establishment, gorgeous decco, dyson hand driers, posh hand soaps but we went out for a meal so based on that......
Met by wonderful staff, all very plesant. The menu is reduced on days so you must check what is on before you go. We had a tapas type menu (see image) the 3oz fillet for £14 isnt a typo from 8oz! The pork belly tasted amazing! But there wasn't enough, we were told by staff it is advised we order 3 dishes each so we did. The sweet potatoe fries were in a very small bowl and the mushroom tatan with goats cheese was very tasty but again £6! Thats a bit extortionate for such a small item. We hadn't eaten all day we were so hungry, not the chefs fault! The corn ribs again half a corn on the cob seasoned and glazed in a fine sauce but I didnt understand the mustard colour dipping pot! Tasted like new trainers. The mushroom crepe looked amazing however I didn't try any as it was not a sharing portion. Then there were the desserts. The pannacotta was delicious, the the chocolate torte was like a piece of art. Drinks are expensive everywhere really so can't compare those, they were served in beautiful glasses. Not going to lie,we felt slightly underwelmed and still hungry when leaving. Would go back again but will make sure we eat prior to going.
P. E.
Lovely atmosphere, great staff. Superb food.very unique, compliments to chef. Looking forward to our next visit which probably will be in a regular basis. Only fault , just a tip background music slightly loud for having a chat . Well done all. See you soon
P. G.
Had received good reports of this place so my wife and I tried it. Very friendly and efficient staff and the food is excellent. We both had pigs cheek which was very tasty and succulent. The mustard mash went well with. Bread and butter pudding and a lemon cheesecake were also excellent. Very drinkable south African shiraz at a sensible price was also very good making this a very enjoyable first visit and no doubt we will be back there again soon
B. A.
I visited this lovely pub today , with my son . It was our first time here, but hopefully not the last . The staff were very welcoming, and our meals were delicious. My son had the vegetarian Pea courgette dish , and I had the chicken . Both meals looked wonderful and tasted even better. The ambience at The Fox was very special , very much looking forward to our next visit
S. D.
Beautifully brought back to life, the attention to detail with this refurbishment is astonishing. Staff were incredibly helpful, warm and attentive and the cider (Applebys I think?), crisp and delicious. We didn't get to try the food this time, next time definitely!
L. W.
Good food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff
J. H.
Pleasantly surprised to stumble across The Fox during my walk with mates last week. Quality food, ales and welcome. The truth is though we're looking for a pie and a pint for lunch on walks like this, the prices here were the top end of our expectations. I'll be back with a date sometime though, not Compo and Cleggy
K. F.
Lovely meal, superb staff and atmosphere of the restaurant/pub is perfect. Will definitely be returning given this is now our second visit and again proved to be another lovely meal.
w. K.
The staff are very professional and very friendly, nothing too much trouble for them. As for the meal... fantastic, full of flavour, meat so tender everything well seasoned. Well done to Gavin and his team.
H.
A 2nd visit to The Fox and again had an excellent experience. Staff very nice and the food today was again outstanding. I had the sea bream and it was done to perfection and the flavours were amazing. Weather was fabulous so we ate outside. The outside area is fantastic with seating positioned to allow for social distancing. Plenty of hand sanitizer pumps throughout the pub/ restaurant.
D. C.
Can usually find what I need, reasonably priced
D. J.
Great restaurant. Food was very good, interior nicely done and the staff were attentive. No complaints at all.
C. J.
Excellent food and service. Must go place to visit and lovely welcome from the staff. Great ale and even better food. 5 star.
m. s.
Thank you Katy and the whole team for a warm welcome to the Fox. The memorial buffet for our beloved Dad was simply superb. You made our day very special
F. N.
Great evening at The Fox. Fab food in fact best vegetarian dish I have had in years. Lovely atmosphere , good attentive service. Def recommended and plan to visit again soon.
M. H.
Fab pub. Food looks good too. Lovely terrace with umbrellas to enjoy the summer on.
I. L.
Very pleasant pint of guineas. Food looked very good, well presented.
J. J.
There would be photo's but the food looked so good and tasted so great, there was nothing left by the time we remembered!!
A group of approx 16 guests all socially distanced/bubbles but in the private function room upstairs.
I had the Xmas 'dinner' which was cooked to perfection.
And the cheesecake dessert which was presented in a planned disorganised effect.
Plus a mocktail in a large goblet glass.
The food and plates were hot ✔️.
My only disappointment: there was no proper Xmas pudding and custard on the dessert list (just a fancy dessert with some sauce in its place which is nowhere near a proper pud). As delicious as the cheesecake was, a pudding would have finished the meal to perfection.
I had booked to return just a few days later, that's how good it was! But a new lockdown hit so for now, there's no more sit down meals permitted anywhere.
As soon as it's lifted, we will return!
(Will post menu photo when I find it)
T. J.
Good food, good beer. What more is there to say?
T. H.
Just popped in for a quiet drink. Been really nicely re-done. Resturant menu looked good. Will be returning for food another time.
A. N.

J. T.
Second time eating here now, both times have been fabulous. Excellent food, great service, a lovely atmosphere and a lovely place too. Wholeheartedly recommended.
M. J.
Excellent food and service at this gastro-pub. Really enjoyed my corn ribs, pork belly and poached pear dishes. Would highly recommend.
A. B.
Food was fab 5 stars but truthfully a bit cold sat by the door especially with people going in and out so it should be closed in winter with entrance via the bar. See you in the spring.
T. B.
Well what a fab establishment the staff friendly and attentive the food was stunning compliments to the chefs really enjoyed it very reasonable priced shame I didn't see gavin
C. M.
We visited for Sunday lunch. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and the pub itself is lovely. Will definitely visit again.

Mark and his parents run a really friendly humble country village pub, always greeted with a smile and Mark is very good at remembering your drink.
Pub food is pub standard.
A lovely log burner in this village country pub. A pool table and darts board. Lots of games and books to keep any visitor entertained, young or old.
Dog friendly.
C. B.
Great little pub and restaurant situated in Saint Brides Major. Great food, fantastic atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Thank you Gavin Henson and co for a terrific experience 👍🏾
T. R.
Place has been renovated to a very good finish, food was ok, had better battered fish elsewhere but the service was not good considering the amount of staff working the wait to get drinks, order food and pay the bill was ridiculous.
L. B. Q.
Food is nice, friendly staffs
P. A.
Fabulous lunch, lots of veg, plenty of meat. Asked for extra gravy, no problems. We called in on the off chance, a little concerned as it was quiet, but we'll definitely return.
G. R.
Called for an afternoon drink with a friend & after a little confusion with first order we did enjoy, then asked to look around with no problem from staff which was impressive especially the first foor!
Well done & will visit again.

Sunday lunch with great service just disappointed that we were out front rather than terrace even after reservation Was made 3 weeks earlier !
T. S.
Amazing food, different and at the top end of budget but worth it 😊
Z. G.
Clientele are strangely parochial. Pretty sure the filter coffee we had was instant, but we paid £1 a cup so can't complain too much
