Reviews of The Barley Mow
P.
I love this place. what a gem. old style pub with good selection of ever-changing ales. always something interesting. beer garden at rear. welcoming, friendly staff. all good.
C. O.
Lovely local pub with good beer. There is an outside area at the back if you want to avoid the confined space of a pub. My only complaint would be that in the sheltered area outside there is supposed to be no smoking but the patrons seem to ignore this
G. R.
Lovely and cosy local pub! Staff is friendly and it feels like home.
A little gem in the middle of Kemptown!
A. J.
Very good local pub. Staff friendly. Outdoor space when weather permits.
C. B.
Still my favourite pub in Brighton, a true 'local'. Brought friends along and they loved it too. Kids got off their phones and played Jenga and frustration. Wonderful food too. Thanks for a really chilled evening Barley Mow :)
S. D.
Had a wonderful roast dinner there today , best pork and pork crackling I have had. Staff very friendly will visit again Sharon
C. D.
Good selection of keg and draught. 3 different food menus to choose from. Great atmosphere.
c. d.
Lovely pub in Brighton with a nice garden and cozy interiors. They sell Pie minister and have plenty of beers and ciders.
I particularly enjoyed their table games, so much so that we stayed there all afternoon. Wish I could go back more often.
They also have a lovely friendly labrador (who you shouldn’t feed)
a. m.
Great welcome and atmosphere. Good Guiness, awesome pies and a Mac n cheese to die for. Dog dudes welcome too 🐾🐾🐾

Great atmosphere, friendly place with a great Thursday pub quiz
R. T.
Great local pub. Gorgeous beer garden and a really fun quiz in Thursdays.
N. W.
Very welcoming staff and they took time when pouring my Guinness! 🙂👍

I love this pub. Great, fun staff, awesome stocked bar (gins! Sweets!). Board games galore. Fantastic garden. The whole place is exactly what a pub should be, fun, humorous and welcoming. Wish I lived in walking distance to it as it is the perfect local. Can't wait to visit again ❤️
G. B.
Lovely community pub. Everyone is welcome and prices are standard Brighton. Lots of food choices too, and they have old fashioned sweet and crisps behind the bar to! Nice quirky garden with heaters and its dog friendly! You cam get pie, thai or pizza here! Its great definitely reccomend
j. y.
Love this pub. Great beers and friendly staf! You can go play board games either bring your own or take one from their collection. The best part is you can order from pizza face from the pub!! I have also seen some people bring Thai take sways. Not sure how that works.
d. p.
We spent Sunday afternoon with family at the Barley Mow.
It’s without doubt one of the best pubs in Brighton.
Sunday roasts are outstanding, especially the cauliflower cheese!
Staff are friendly and work really hard.
If your looking for a chilled pub that does a mean Sunday roast and has a warm, friendly, slightly quirky vibe. The Barley Mow is for you.
I’d definitely recommend a visit 🌞
B.
Great selection of ales, proper pub atmosphere and good background tunes. Hook up with great pizza place across the road and Pieminister Pies makes nibbles a winner AND PICKED EGGS! Little sweet shop.selection too. Free beer as well (on ales) with loyalty cards! Winner
J. T.

P. A.
Really love going to this pub with friends when I'm down from Manchester. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff. 😁
P. D.
Always a choice of good beer here, and the staff are friendly. I also like the fact that you can order off 3 menus: pies (cooked in house), Thai, and Pizza (both delivered very promptly).
S. T.
Myself and my partner are in Brighton to see a band, we asked in a shop to see where best to eat and he recommended The Barley Mow for food. He definitely was not wrong had the pie, mash and gravy.
The landlord made us feel welcome. Would definitely recommend this pub for both drinking and eating, the prices were very good for the food and drinks.
K. Þ.
Lovely little pub. You can get pie and mash or order from nearby pizza and Thai takeaways. Thursday quiz is a goodun and the beer selection is always excellent
N. H.
Nice comfortable boozer at the far end of Kemptown's high street. It was a cold evening so on arrival it was lovely and cozy inside. Drink selection was really good including cocktails. They do Thai food which we didn't have but looked nice. There is a cute little heated garden out the back as well
S. B.
Love this place. Used to be my local then moved away but since I'm back went straight back in. Love the option to have some local take away as well as pie-minister in the pub, however shame the garden is forced to be closed due to the neighbour's house:( hope they can sort that quickly!
G. C.
Good food, nice atmosphere.

One of my favourite pubs in Brighton
The 'Mow is an incredibly cosy and friendly little pub with a great selection of ales and spirits. The ale line-up is changed regularly and my partner was very excited to find the Cornish 'Betty Stoggs' on the menu a few months ago!
The food is great - their pies are absolutely gorgeous and seasonal, with a traditional comforting selection of sides. They have affordable and enjoyable snacks and tuck shop sweeties and you can even have a scrummy pizza face pizza delivered from across the road.
It can get quite busy but there is a spacious, outside area available that is very comfortable and a portion of it is heated and covered.
In addition to the great food and drinks, you have a selection of board games available and a piano if you're musically inclined!
With exceptionally welcoming staff and very reasonable prices to boot; I really cant recommend this little gem enough!
F. “. W.
What a cracking pub! Full of character, funny signs, loads of board games to get your teeth into, a piano, a 'tuck shop' selling proper sweeties, popcorn, and pies - lots of pies. Traditional favourites and the new and innovative make the choice harder, but more fun!
Situated at the top/eastern end of Kemptown, it's definitely worth checking out.
N. B.
Called by as travelled down from Leeds, needed quick food and a cheeky slurp (hop house 13 & Pink gin n tonic ), pieminster pies bang on, I had the traditional steak pie mushy peas, wife had chicken ham leek with sweet potato mash n gravy, pea to pie ratio just right. Querky little bar yound lady behind bar made us welcome & beer garden to rear, Until next time keep up the good work, cheers Neil n Jane 👍🏻🍺
N. F.
by far the best pies I've ever had, seasoning and taste are spot on, If you want amazing pies which feel like your eating a fresh homemade dinner then come here! 100% recommend! will be back plenty of times!
F. A.
There is a wide range of beers and is a cozy place. Nice to go with a date or a friend. It seems to have a nice terrace but couldn't make use of it due to weather conditions.
M. J.
This is the most rocking-est place in kemptown. Great beers great people and julie is the most wonderful host with an amazing outlook on her business. And bog up felix for his awesome skill.

One of my favourite pubs in Brighton and probably the UK! Amazing food, great atmosphere, board games, and super friendly attentive staff .I could go on and on! Anyone visiting or local Brighton or locals need to try this place, it’s a gem and a half!
J. G.
Very nicely refurbished in 2017. Serves good selection of local ales and European lagers and wines are drinkable too. Nice pie menu but if you don't like pies you're a bit stuffed.
T. H.
Used to have brilliant Sunday roast but while the kitchen is refurbished a limited choice of what I can only say it Co-op style microwave meals for one. 😕 Food is now bought in. Pizza face deliver to the pub from 4pm.kitchen reopens in August so let's hope the food gets better and more diverse for the city.
J. J.
Great Kemp Town pub with a varied menu including pies and pizzas from Pizza Face. Board games to challenge your friends with. Good option if you're going to an event at the nearby St George's Church.
T. F.
I'd love to rate this a 5 as it has almost all the best characteristics. Friendly staff, board games, tuck shop, beer garden, supports local businesses (pizzaface, Kemp Thai etc). It just needs to embrace the craft beer scene to bring it up to epic levels!
c. c.
Its q nice little bar with friendly staff also all tables are splitt by having plastic splitters between tables to follow covid regulations
M. A.
Saved us with their order in pizza option after a long drive and not getting to Brighton until 9:30 pm. Nothing really open so this was a godsend. The girl behind the bar with the blond hair and glasses was particularly helpful.
N. A. P.
I would love to congratulate the entire team on a wonderful place with a beautiful atmosphere and 5 star food all fresh and yummy. Pubs are an amazing place to bring people together, this place so clean friendly and lovely bar choices and so homely thank you for a wonderful Sunday roast pork and chocolate brownie with ice cream nick ayris papworth xx

Celebrated my birthday here with 10 friends, chuffed to be able to reserve one of the legendary ‘sperm tables’ which could fit us all and we settled in for a lovely relaxed evening, great beer and lovely staff, half of us ordered in house pies and the rest KempThai noodles so everyone was happy, the staff were lovely and it has a great atmosphere, only downside was missing our favourite bar manager Boyd. This was our local pub before all of us sadly moved from Kemptown and it is definitely still my favourite, more visits required. Long live The Barley Mow!
P. B.
Warm and inviting atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Frequently visit when we're in Brighton. Large selection of board games, nice garden area.
M. B.
Great pub. Good beer, friendly staff, lively atmosphere. What more could you want.
A. “. J.
Hardworking and helpful staff, beer and other selection of drinks (even soft) are interesting and the food was very very tasty pieminster pies mmm. Up there with top 10 pubs in Brighton.
J. W.
Awesome pub. Great beer selection and frIendly staff. The option to get thai food delivered from the nearby restaurant is wonderful!
P. G.
A lovely locals pub in the quieter end of Kemptown. Does a good selection of beers and has good food. Well worth a visit. Also has a quiz if you like that sort of thing.
S. j. B.
This is a staple for any kemptowner. Pieminister is new ish and I miss the old menu. I love the sweets. The beer selection. The games.. So many board games. The garden is great all year round. Awesome staff. Love it.
J. O.
Friendly pub, nicely renovated but still an antidote to the more aspirational boozers nearby. Food is decent and well-priced. Not good for wine though.
A. W.
I've always loved this pub, I've been coming here for 20 years. Staff are friendly, the food is good, the wine is perfect!
A. E.
Great little local pub with a good selection of ales and commercial beers. Nice, friendly atmosphere and also can receive deliveries from the great Pizza Face from across the road.
G. R.
This pub is always comfortable. There are good pies, pizza brought in, good drinks selection, board games and a good quiz.
J. W.

Great pub, great selection of beer, amazing staff. A proper English pub and well worth a visit if you're ever in Brighton.
b. r.
I don't know where you got the pie from, Vykkye Annets, but it wasn't from The Barley Mow in Kemp Town, Brighton. There is no association between them and Deliveroo.
I have since been informed by Pieminister that The Regency Tavern in Hove is the pub that uses Deliveroo. Definitely NOT The Barley Mow in Kemp Town.
E. C.
Nice pub in Kemptown village
There is a good choice of delivered food.
Thai and pizza...
About drinks... Guinness what else!
A. R.
Great atmosphere, nice drinks but small selection, got a garden but perhaps too small for families
