Reviews of The Cleveland Arms
P. R.
Stumbled on this place last sunday and the place was very full but they still found us a table. Had the most amazing roast lunch I've had for a long time!! Very cute location and very friendly staff. Can't wait to go back!!
A. D.
Went for a Sunday Roast - delicious.
We ordered the lamb roast, which was amazing, the lamb was so tasty and melted in your mouth, the potatoes were slightly dry so we had to ask for more gravy. The veggies on the plate were also cooked so well, and the Yorkshire pudding was perfect.
For dessert we had the apple and berries crumble, so tasty and a perfect way to end the meal.
C. K.
Such a lovely evening. Great friendly staff. Really good service. Staff checked up on us regularly. We sat in the huts around the back and it was toasty warm and comfy. Nice food and wine too!
P. B.
The autumn fish stew I had today was absolutely superb. Washed down with Harvey's Old ale. What a combination! Excellent food, nice atmosphere and good service.
C. C.
Fantastic local pub with friendly, helpful staff. The food is delicious - they won an award for the best roast in the UK! They are currently delivering drinks during the lockdown which is fantastic as they sell plenty local ales, wines and spirits.
A. H.
Fabulous Sunday roast, very tasty and good selection of beers. Really friendly staff.
A log fire, comfortable furniture and a nice setting...a brilliant pub.
C. D.
This pub offers some of the best local produce around. The meats come, literally, from around the corner at Barfield's Butchers, fish from MCB and the bread from the nearby Flourpot Bakery. There are a variety of dishes to cover all tastes and budgets. Vegans are also more than catered for as The Cleveland sells the only Vegan Cheeseboard in the area, as well as selling plenty vegan ice creams, supplied by The Great British Charcuterie Company at Brighton Marina, there are also local Charcuterie and Cheeseboards available.
It's great for families, large groups and solo drinkers. There's an outside area overlooking Blakers Park and a gorgeous conservatory dining area.
The pub can also host and cater small functions and has some great morning activities such as yoga and music with Mike for young children. A real treat for all!
L. I.
The Cleveland pub still remains a community hub although more of a gastro pub these days offering a range of food including some vegan options. Outside seating with heaters at some tables. Advised to book ahead although there may occasionally be a small side table free.
E. K.
Lovely pub. Great food. Really nice friendly service. We will be back.
J.
Always good. Friendly staff, prime position on the corner by the park and really really tasty food.
Great place to hang out and in the summer the outdoor seating is perfect.
M. B.
Absolutely delicious! Some of the best food I’ve tasted and seen for perfectly reasonable prices. I recommend the Salted Caramel & Banana Trifle dessert, such a wonderful array of textures and distinct tastes.
G. B.
Had such an amazing dinner here on a Saturday night. Pork sausages were unreal, service was great with all staff & other patrons very friendly
s.
Lovely food, hospitality and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
D. T.
Great pub for a drink and to eat. V good atmosphere. Seating outside. Well managed with plenty of waiting staff. Children's play park opposite. Takes reservations, recommend booking before you go.
D.
Nice gastro pub, dartboard, sports screens made our party welcome for a men's darts match good food and atmosphere.
C. C.
A great pub, with excellent food and beer with a lovely relaxed atmosphere
A. C.
Good to see pub getting busy again but kept ability to book tables. Good ales and friendly team.
r. d.
Had the caesar salad, but came without the anchovies as advertised. Also had linguine which was a little under seasoned and could have done with jazzing up a bit. Chips were great, but came away feeling that for 33 quid (not including drinks), that it was a bit over priced.
Would go there again, but maybe without such high expectations that others have given.
s. W.
Amazing service! The most beautiful roast full of wonderful flavours.
K. C.
We went for Sunday dinner with my grandson we enjoyed it very much. When we come visiting again we will pay another visit 👍
D. T.
Good Sunday roasts, service and ambience. Seating outside. Family friendly. Recommended.
P. W.
Finally got round to visiting the place, very glad that I did. Well laid out, very good food and friendly attentive young staff. Seems popular with a wide range of age groups. Well worth a visit, especially to eat.
J. P.
Great local pub, top food, great people
L. C.
I've always loved this pub, a proper relaxed friendly local, love the updo and so glad Jamie and Sarah haven't made it look like every other pub, staff are just fantastic, food is wonderful and everything is relaxed, no false pretence, never feel judged here, nice social events with the run club and most importantly dog ever so friendly. Always a lovely mix of people and almost guaranteed to see someone you know, love the quiet time it provides re seating, for me, I feel totally relaxed and is one of my favourites, my pooch also loves it too...win win 🐾🐶🥂🍻
D. B.
Good local/family pub, serving Harvey's beer and Long Man APA when I went. Friendly bar staff and comfortable indoor/outdoor seating.
I didn't eat but food looked good.
M. A.
Amazing roast ... outside due to the restrictions but everyone worked really hard to make it a great evening. Fun friendly and attentive service ... heaters and blankets to keep us warm and the tastiest nut roast I’ve ever had. Highly recommended - can’t wait to go back.
E.
Absolutely lovely place. It has lovely cosy decor, delicious food with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, very friendly staff, outdoor heaters and very comfy blankets. Can't wait to go back soon
N. C.
We ordered 2x Roast pork to collect and eat at home. The communication was perfect and we collected right on time.
On first glace it looked amazing! The gravy was just perfect, I would say £19 for a roast (with an added side) they could stretch to touch more gravy.
The veg was wonderful, I would definitely get the side of cauliflower cheese again. The potatoes we're not crispy however. The main event of the pork left much to be desired. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong meat. It was chewy, a large fat to meat ratio (which i do expect with a belly cut) but NO crackling!! That is really there only reason anyone orders pork right?! So overall for the price a little disappointing. Having said that I'd be willing to order again and try either the lamb or beef. Perhaps it was our error in ordering the wrong choice.
S. E.
We ordered food outside, on a cold winter's day. Could have been after the first... or second lockdown.. I have lost count now. It was as warm as we could be, in those circumstances!
But service was outstanding. (even though they were very busy.) Food was extremely tasty. Maybe salad with the burgers and more bread with stew, otherwise bloody gorgeous
H. J.
Outstanding Sunday roast! Large portions, everything home made, lamb and beef must have been prepared in a slow cooker because they melted in the mouth! Service great, lovely staff, good atmosphere. Visited for the first time today and will definitely be back. They were also very hot on social distancing providing table service and doing track and trace properly. Great job guys.
G. H.
Lovely pub next to Blakers Park. Visited with our dog on a quiet Monday lunchtime. Excellent local food and friendly service.
M. A.
The food was ok . The service and the staff was ok . A note for the staff would be ,please ask the customer how there food was . Its a young team in there and they could do with smartening up dirty trainers and all sorts of ill fitting trousers . We also waited along time a member of the team asked us if we wanted deserts and gave us a menu then waited another 15 mins for service. I know it's hard times but we was sitting close to the bar were 3 staff were chatting .
I also bearly touched the pork . . Not great
R. B.
We came for a Sunday roast with some friends and genuinely it's the best roast we've had in the area! We're pretty much all Brighton born and bred so we've had a lot of roasts.
Jamie went above and beyond to accommodate our group.
Everything was absolutely delicious. I'd highly recommend the bloody Mary, beef, guinea and pork roast. The sides were also amazing.
Dessert wise the ice cream and crumble was perfection!
Can't wait to come again.
Thank you all at Cleveland Arms for making our Sunday special 😍😍😍
A. T.
Nice little pub out of city centre, lovely food and good atmosphere.
H. M.
Delicious food and very attentive staff. Thanks Cleveland for an amazing eve. Quite expensive. Would have felt a little more comfortable Covid wise if backdoors were left open for air circulation.
P.
I had the best roast of my life here and cannot recommend enough. Aside from that, one of the best run, stocked and aesthetic pubs on brighton. Absolute gem x
M. L.
Best pub roast! Beautiful pub, friendly staff, highly recommend.
S. T.
Lovely food, atmosphere and service. Definitely recommend!
I. L.
Just enjoyed our Cleveland roast. Absolutely brilliant. Great instructions and outstanding result. All spot on. Cauliflower cheese side dish too much on top of everything else. That’s lunch sorted for tomorrow!
L. G.
Just ordered our first takeaway roast from The Cleveland Arms and it was amazing! Food was great quality, easy to follow instructions for the final prep.
An easy, very tasty slightly alternative roast - will definitely order again!
P. R.
Enjoyed it sat outside met nice people and the food looked fabulous...Will go back some time.
S. S.
First pub meal since August 2020. An excellent choice. Good food, friendly owner and staff, and a nice place to sit facing the park. Wil definitely return.
B. D.
Can't comment on what it's like inside (Covid restrictions meaning outdoor drinking only) but the staff were universally great and very well organised... and the burgers. Oh my. Trust me and get one. Any one. They are all superb.
S. S.
Perfect Roast Beef - and I'm very particular about my beef. An ample portion (two large thick slices), pink (medium-rare) from edge to edge - very tender and tasty beef with the perfect amount of creamy delicious fat from a rib-eye joint. Veggie accompaniments varied and all nicely cooked. Herbed Yorkshire Pudding - large, fluffy and crunchy. Extra portion of cauliflower cheese really good value too. Prompt and friendly service and very drinkable wines by the glass. Now must give their full menu a try in an evening too. Highly recommended. 😁
E. A.
Best roast with incredible service. Thank you Jamie and team!
P. H.
Staff were super friendly. Food was really decent and I would definitely eat here again. Decent beers and prices
D. T.
Nice cosy local pub. Good atmosphere. Does food. Worth a visit
R. B.
We have just visited this lovely pub for a Sunday roast, totally amazing,,food quality was excellent, large portions. Great service from Jamie .( owner /manager ?) and I think very good value for money. It is definitely now going to be top of our list of best Sunday roasts will definitely be back .
D. R.
Delicious Cranberry and brie. Fun atmosphere
H. D.
Gorgeous food. Pretty building design. Welcoming staff.
n.
Lovely afternoon spent for lunch with family, great food and service. Felt very welcome and had an enjoyable time with plenty of Christmas cheer. Pie of the day (lamb and mint) was beautiful, great sausage and mash. Burger fab, excellent chips, lovely turkey and cranberry focaccia. Saw other meals coming out which also looked great. Highly recommend and even better that our four legged friend was allowed In also. Will be back!
O. B.
The chips were unreal! I've never had chips like it, so crispy but so soft inside! The burger bun was on another level and the chicken was tender and delicious! The pub has a lovely atmosphere, I highly recommend this place!
M. P.
We visited on a Sunday for a roast and found the staff to be very warm and welcoming with perfect service.
The food was delicious and by far one of the best roasts we’ve had in Brighton, they even gave us a small plate and cutlery for our near two year old son to enjoy some too!
Would thoroughly recommend for the roasts alone but also for the wide selection of drinks and excellent customer service.
M. F.
Park adjacent pub with a good menu and selection of drinks. Their roasts are fantastic on a Sunday.
L. H.
The food here was absolutely delicious. We had the cod and chips and were not disappointed! Good social distancing measures in place. Cannot fault these guys.
A.
Lovely neighbourhood pub famed for its food. Friendly and attentive staff. Outdoor tables to the side look out over Blakey’s Park.
M. E.
Excellent food and extremely good value. Good choices on menu. Also had small plastic fork and spoon for 2yr old granddaughter to use. Also a selection of toys for children to use. Would probably go again when visiting family in Brighton from Plymouth.
A. G.
Really delicious Sunday roast. Brilliant service. Lovely pub will definitely be back.
L. T.
Lovely staff, good food nice place
D. T.
Had roast here with friends. A real family orientated pub. Hadn't been here for a while and they have since opened up the main bar area with the back dining room. So much better for it. Good seating out front over looking park. Nice friendly local.
I. S.
My son had his wedding reception yesterday, absolutely brilliant. Food to die for! Staff and landlord lovely. Nothing to much trouble. Definitely will be back. Thank you everyone for making it such a special occasion.
B. B.
We went for a Sunday Roast a few weeks ago and a meal last night. The food is outstanding! The staff are very friendly and there’s a relaxed atmosphere. So we’re off to ‘Spoons....’ just kidding 😊
R. M.
A warm inviting pub. The staff are excellent and attentive. They're welcoming to families and always willing to help. Food is great and the roasts are one of the best I've had
J. T.
The author of 'Half-Time score' will be in on Xpmas eve according to his PA
M. O.
Just Fabulous. The recent refurbishment has created a light, open and welcoming space. The staff are just the best, the food is really good - top notch pub grub - and the value is amazing. Very family friendly, great for groups. Highly recommended.
S. G.
Tastiest Sunday roast. The vege Wellington was delicious and all the sides.
Excellent customer service on phone when making enquiries. Thank you !!
S. H. D.
Excellent! Friendly staff and the food was quality, what I would expect from a top restaurant rather than a pub. And great value for money. Will definitely return.
C. G.
Good beer, good food. It's a proper pub!
T. H.
Lovely place, made to feel so welcome. Grace is one of the most welcoming and talkative bar staff I have come across. Not only does she suggest the right right drink you’re in the mood for but she also makes you feel comfortable and at home. 5* and the refurbishment is impressive to. Looking forward to coming back xxx
J. R.
Much better food than it used to do, excellent Sunday lunch and a nice cheap Bloody Mary.
R. T.
Beautifully laid out pub, spacious and lovely welcoming atmosphere to chat and chill in.
Friendly staff and top notch food, fish and chips were better than spot on, really great chips and mushy peas. All local as well! Fish from Shoreham and meat from Barfields Butchers up the road said the chef 👌
T. G.
This is a proper old fashioned pub. No frills so if you want a 'modern' pub experience like some of the poor reviewers on here then go into town. It's not run down at all - just hasn't been converted into a wood filled generic pub like 95% of the others. I love it for a quiet pint and it's nice to sit outside and look over the park. AND they sell Walkers crisps - no hand cut / cooked rubbish here. Plus the staff are all lovely and welcoming.
D. L. G.
The Cleveland has changed a lot of the last couple of years, it's a nice place to stop in for a pint. It's a particularly good place if you have younger kids with you with a tolerant staff and a bunch of toys for them. Could do with a few more newer ales.
M. K.
Lovely pub opposite Blakers park in Brighton, great food and drink options, excellent coffee (hot strong latte was perfect) the staff where friendly, polite and very helpful, we were well looked after 😀 dog friendly, nice bar area with plenty of seating and a sports screen. We will visit again and recommended.
K. H.
Lovely local pub
Gastro food
Always a good atmosphere
K. N.
Great local pub, Landlord & Landlady and Staff get a 10/10, Harveys best bitter and award winning food. Outside areas have just been upgraded.
O. L.
Newly refurbished, next to the park, with a terrace. Good for a pit stop after a game of tennis. The kitchen has interesting offers, including adventurous unboring vegan.
S. B.
We booked a table and sat outside. Landlord and landlady really lovely and very professional. Food and service excellent. We'll definitely be back.
R. d.
Ate outside in one of the booths. Nice and cosy, easy access. Friendly staff, great service and lovely wagu burger.
L. N.
I ate Christmas Lunch with a group of friends at the Cleveland yesterday. The meal was excellent and all elements were perfectly cooked. The service was very friendly and efficient. Very good value for money.
S. G.
Good food and relaxed pub environment
I. U.
Really a lovely pub, the work done on the outside area for accommodation costumers is impressive, the nut roast is really tasty and I really enjoy the pandoro pudding!!!
S. P.
Always welcoming and as a single lady just looking forward to a refreshing drink that's good to know. The freshly cut chips (with skins!!) went down great with a very nice Sauvignon Blanc.
D. M.
Best sunday roast I've had in years - great attention to cooking each and every component and vegetable, handmade and freshly cooked Yorshires are amazing!. Lovely ambience - plenty of space but popular so need to book at predictably busy times. Love the boardgames - had a blast with my lovely wife and children
A. P.
Really tasty, well presented food
Eaten here several times and never dissapointed. Friendly staff and lovely decor.
S. W. (.
It's ok but needs to decide whether it's a pub that serves food or a real gastro pub. The food was reasonable but there was no feel to the place. Friendly staff.
They've done a great job with the interior and I believe the area could support a decent gastro pub, so would be nice to see them focus on the food side.
D. B.
What a wonderful Sunday lunch, beautiful beef and Yorkshire, Pork & crackling, lamb & chicken, lovely variety of fresh veggies, all just like home, creme brulee & crumble wow!! 18 adults 6 children Bravo the Cleveland, very warm and welcoming Thank you x
