Reviews of The Colonnade Bar

A truly lovely bar full of ambience. Extremely relaxing with a great variety of drinks. The gin selection is particularly good. Next door to the Theatre Royal it is a great place to have drinks before a show but also a lovely place to just relax. Many performers usually have a drink in this bar at the end of their performance so many famous actors from TV and movies have visited here.

A truly enjoyable evening sampling many wonderful Gins served by people who have taken the time to know their product. Liza has been particularly fabulous and has provided professional and friendly service and made our evening an absolute pleasure. Thank you.

Had a lovely time at this pub. Completely made by barmaid Kez, her service was really fantastic. The inside looked atmospheric and nice, but we spent most of the evening outside and Kez gave us blankets to keep warm and served us with such enthusiasm. This place was really sold to us all by the service of the staff above all else.

Been a few times recently and every time has been lovely. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming, especially Nic who was incredibly helpful in our last visit (thank you again). Lovely mulled wine and great rum.

Love this little bar full of character indoors and there are outdoor tables with heating too. Great service very friendly staff. Good choice of drinks. Location perfect for pre dinner drinks.

Has to be one of the best customer service experiences I have had at a bar. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about their extensive collection of gins. He recommended my friend and I try the oriental pink gin based on what we had told him our drink preferences were. I will now be going to buy this gin myself because I loved it so much!

Friendly theatre bar, right next door to the Theatre Royal.
Nice drinks.
Nice little bar.

We visited this bar with our Dachshund puppy about three weeks ago and special mention must go to Lyndon for making us and our pup feel like kings! Pup was generously provided with free-flowing meaty dog treats whilst we were kept well oiled with the generous drinks offering which Lyndon was even happy to go off-piste with! Top bar, top service and top espresso martinis (but shhh, Lyndon's espresso martini skills must remain Brighton's best kept secret!)

Gorgeous, quirky bar and the manager is a lovely man who is keeping cheerful in difficult circumstances. Delicious stew on offer and the mulled wine is particularly good. I'm not from the area but I'll definitely re-visit.

Popped in on our way back from dinner as we thought it looked like a nice place for a night cap. Asked the gentleman who served us outside to reccomend a whiskey and a gin for each of us and he did a great job, we both really enjoyed our drink. Servive was very welcoming and friendly and we felt the bill was reasonable considering the level of service and expertise we received.

A lovely cozy, yes it's small and intimate, bar with some decent beer and gins. Traditionally the place to go before a theatre show next door and you can order drinks for the break. Outside seating for when the weather is good, or you need a smoke..!
A. R.
The Colonnade is my favourite pub. Usually made welcome but a person serving doesnt pay any attention to what's going on or people liking another drink. I'd give it 5 stars if this improved

Here for the weekend and we have come here both nights due to the fabulous service and location. Lyden and Olivia have been absolutely wonderful, so welcoming and have made my first experience of brighton very special. Can't wait to come back!!

Great beer and lovely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Gets busier at theatre interval and end of show

Was more than happy with my experience, barman knew his Gin! Convinced me to try something new which was amazing and also convinced my husband to try something new Which is a hardship! Lovely quiet drink in an old fashioned and quaint little bar! Highly recommended x

These guys are THE gin experts in town - they have interesting varieties and an incredible knowledge of local makers. They also invest in non-plastic straws which was wonderful to see. This pub is absolutely beautiful, next door to the theatre, and is lavishly decorated. A truly wonderful place to come and soak up the Dickensian atmosphere. A joy to behold.

Excellent old fashioned gin Palace decor, large variety of Gins & garnishes. Bar staff were friendly, knowledgeable & passionate about their G&T mixing. Reasonable prices too.

This lovely bar next to Theatre Royal is very theatrical in it's out look and decor. Although these days it's known as a Gin Boutique. One of the few places in centre of Brighton that you can have a conversation without shouting over our music. Also no trouble there. Good mix of ages and people too.

A lovely atmospheric pub in the centre of town, the Colonnade is underneath the Theatre Royal, and the walls have theatre ephemera. It's often a calm oasis on a hot summer day, and you can sit outside too. Lovely selection of gins - try a Brighton gin and tonic!
G. N.
The staff were incredibly friendly on a busy Saturday night. They gave us blankets too, which was appreciated.

Great bar in the heart of Brighton. It's well positioned for the Dome and Theatre. The bar gets busy with the theatre and gig goers but once people have left its nice and cozy. The beer is standard brighton prices.

Yes small cosy drinks fine. Not busy staff member on laptop whole of the time, but when interrupted was pleasant. This pub needs a good clean.
R. S.
Really friendly staff, decent prices and great selection of drinks! Will be stopping by there again
L. N.
Rather straight laced service, barstaff seemed to have no people skills but was polite enough and.
The place looks quirky and interesting though somewhat outdated.
Worth a look and a drink but not for staying

Great theatre bar with Victorian style red velvet drapes. A lovely period pub next to the theatre in the heart of Brighton. Highly recommended for a Brighton Gin.
B. G.
I really like this place. They have some great gins, a few ales and beers to chose from and it's all a bit odd so what more do you want? I always have a great time in there and if you mill about a bit you can usually grab a table.
L. H.
The Bar was busy, the " rocky horror show " was on next door. It was a most enjoyable time with the enthusiastic show fans all dressed up waiting for the performance to start. Wouldn't have wanted to miss it!
B. M.
Superb little bar! Staff really know what they are talking about, especially when it comes to gin and tonic - you'll not be disappointed.

Situated next door to the Theatre Royal and carefully retaining its Victorian character, this is a delightful old fashioned boozer, albeit with a twist.
Period theatre bills abound, along with signed photographs of many of the great TV stars of the 1970s and 80s, whilst the clientele usually includes a sprinkling of "theatricals" and local eccentrics, along with a regular crowd, theatre goers and tourists.
Popular with theatre goers before the show and during the interval, (for which you can pre-order drinks), it is also a go to after show venue for both some of the stars of local shows and the audiences.
It is also a place that many women have said that they can feel comfortable in alone, which makes for a nice cool atmosphere, even when it is heaving before and after a show.
The staff always know who is next to be served, even at busy times, so waving a note is considered bad form.
You can usually get a seat if you wait, whilst serendipitous and interesting acquaintances are to be had from sharing a table with strangers just by asking.
Highly recommended.

Most welcoming bar in Brighton, from start to finish we felt so welcome and the kids had a lovely time too and fell in love with the place.
M. A.
Enjoy a delicious selection of gins and cocktails in this authentic English pub. Pre/interval theatre drinks are also available.
P. B.

Z. S.

My daughter and son in law held their wedding party in the colonnade bar last week .. we had the most amazing time.. the staff were very friendly, and they served the best pimms i have ever tasted!
J. P.
Traditional Victorian feel, unique, charming.. Theatre Bar a Regency House (frontage) became a bar linked upstairs to Theatre next door rest of building as with next door became aspects of Theatre next door as it grew in size (not public access )... Next door was The Managers home which was also bequeathed to theatre (oldest operating in UK) and managers front room became the ticket office and foyer of Theatre Royal Brighton as it is now - 200+years later... (look for the front room fire place when buying tickets!)
