H. G.We were in Room 5 and found everything in order with clean facilities and it looked like it had recently been painted. The door handle was wobbly to say the least but it worked. The road outside was a bit noisy but with the windows shut it was less so. There is an issue with bird droppings around and about but a difficult one to resolve. Room 5 was only minimally affected. We couldn't have breakfast as it was not served until nine o'clock but when we said, the lady behind the bar kindly gave us a bag with milk, cereal, croissant, grain bar, biscuit bar and crisps to keep us going. It was good value for four of us for one night. Personally I wouldn't want to stay for longer, but it did us well for the night.
R. R.Came to Brighton from Leeds with some mates and stayed here - fantastic staff, food, drink choices, service, facilties and just made our weekend even better. For a family run 'pub/hotel' - you would never have thought it, just brilliant. Thanks to Jo and the team!

P. T.Great location for us and ample parking, room was ok, clean and tidy but dated, shower wasn't very powerful but served a purpose.
The bar area was ideal and the staff were great, the evening meal i had was delicious.
On our last day we came down for 8am breakfast but it was all locked up, waited for 15 mins but no show, so we headed home.

V.So I stayed here for 2 nights in a single room the room was comfortable altho the shower was a small space for someone with big shoulder but the water pressure was very good the bed was good and I slept OK. My room seamed to be above a door to the outside and this was very loud with constant use but did stop when the pub closed my ear plugs helped the rest of the time.
Food wise mid range price wise but very good quality and the breakfast was very good.
The staff where very friendly and helpful even down to information on bus prices and time table.
The location is a 25 min bus ride from town centre. With very good views down to the sea

N. C.Room 9 was a bit musty from the damp in the bathroom and the wireless didn't reach that room. Handy location for travel up and down the coast and walking to Rottingdean and Brighton. Can be noisey if pub smokers are out the back.
P. B.We stayed here for love supreme. It's a bit of a cab ride (£25-£30), but it's OK if factored in to overall cost of the weekend. It's above the pub, but no mouse to keep us awake after we go back. Room was adequate. Clean if a little dated. Was welcomed on arrival. Side entrance and keys for when the pub is shut. Nice (front facing) view over towards the sea, which you could just see. Full English Breakfast down in the pub was very nice.

B. C.If you are looking for a hotel with a stunning sea view and in a lovely area please choose this hotel. The breakfast is amazing, staff friendly and always there to help! The rooms are a bit dated, however, they have recently refurbished toilers. The place is just lovely, me and my wife had an amazing 2 night stay this weekend and will be definitely coming back soon with your family.
A. R.I didn’t stay overnight but I come here fairly regularly for lunch when visiting a relative in a nearby Care home. The staff are lovely, the service is excellent, the prices are extremely reasonably and the food, cooked by one of the Chef’s Adam, is fresh and delicious! What’s not to love?!

B. B.This was our third time at the Hotel for food and the third time they pleased us. The staff are warm welcoming and friendly and they were more than happy to cater for my dietary requirements. Suchlike a wonderful place with great history and warmth, whatever the weather.
L. B.Really friendly, breakfast was lovely. Ideal for buses into Brighton.The only downside was our room was above the kitchen, so a bit niffy, and the tv looked a bit precarious on a shelf, but we were only in there to sleep. Will definately stay again.
L. D.Rooms were clean, well decorated and had good views. Also very noisy - but when you stay in a pub on a Friday and Saturday nights, this is to be expected.
Did not eat dinner there, but the breakfasts were ok. A Builder's breakfast was advertised, and came with twice the food we got for our Guest breakfast. Should have asked for that! But the quality of the bacon, eggs, etc, was fair.
This stay was in September 2010. Couldn't have been that bad - we are staying again this April! And this time with an en suite - last time was a last minute booking, so we had to take what we could, and that did not include en suite.
L.Have been here for a couple of funeral teas. Satisfactory catering - really loved the mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef, horseradish and gravy. What a perfect mini-morsel-marvel!!!

T. “. A. R.Arrived on teusday anx was immediately helped, the staff are amazing, the rooms where clean and spacious and my sister and I slept incredibly well. The bathroom and shower room was a little small but not enough to deter us from staying again.
Breakfast was delicious, well presented and enough to fill us the rest of the day! The menu is also very comprehensive having vegan and vegitarian options which was ideal for us.
The room also presented us with a consise folder of good places to go, as well as what local buses you are able to get and even good taxi numbers.
Great view out fo window too!
Really thought of everything and would definately stay here again!
D. S.I had a cancellation appointment for a pre-op, assessment at the Nuffield health hospital, 5minutes away and the Downs Hotel had to go into lockdown, but the staff were very friendly and helpful, ended up having 4 brilliant nights👍😀, Staying there again, before my operation 😂👌DDee🙏💞

T. W.We had lunch with my Mum on the 3rd March 2015. A gloriously sunny day and the views from the restaurant were right out to sea, it couldn't have been any better. We were give a very warm welcome and then perused the menu. I basically wanted to try all of their dishes, the choice was varied and very interesting. I chose the Chicken Goujons, my partner had a Ham and Mushroom Cheese Crumble and my Mum had Salmon Fishcakes - all home made, piping hot and totally tasty.
We really enjoyed our lunch and are already planning on going back just to work our way through their menu so you can expect more reviews as we go along.
Highly recommend this, children would be welcome, there is an ample car park, a friendly welcome guaranteed.
D.It was a nice spacious room for one and decent shower room. Medium sized TV, small lamp and kettle with extras.
Good place to stay for just a night or two. Wouldn't stay for leisure.

j. b.Booked one night due to son in Nuffield hospital over night it was cheap (£45) for one single nights stay in a single en suite room it's a pub so expected a bit of noise but not to bad considering, most noise was banging doors from other guests didn't have breakfast as its serve from 8am and was back up the hospital before that time so sorry cannot comment on the food room was basic if it's just for one night it is tolerable.
