S. H.Visited for monthly Blues jam on 1st Sunday of month. Gets crowded, but had a seat by the door. Had roast chicken supreme Sunday lunch, nice but I found it a bit cold, would have preferred a hotter plate. Had a lovely pink pepper gin and tonic, they have quite a nice selection of gins, but basic tonics, including one on tap. Disabled toilet is radar key accessible which keeps it nice and clean. Parking a bit sparse, can be reached by bus.
A. R.Met a friend for the bogof sausage and mash deal on a Thursday. It was so tasty and the mustard mash was to die for! This was my first time in the pub since it changed hands and they've done such a grand job; it looks so clean, fresh, bright, and airy and staff are all very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be going back to check out their other food deals and the Tues quiz night. They also have a lovely pub garden which I am looking forward to spending time in when the warmer seasons arrive. Such a welcoming environment and a massive but very positive change from what it used to be (I ventured in there once under the old ownership and did an about turn immediately as it felt a little hostile)! Highly recommended!
c. w.Stopped by with my girlfriend on a whim on the way home, got some wings and some tagliatelle for dinner and omg, incredibly surprised at how amazing it was, fresh hot wings with some amazing sauces, and the pasta was some of the best I've had in a while, definitely will be coming back.
The two people who were working are lovely aswell.
A dog named rufus was fixated on the smell of our empty plates, can hardly say i Blame him.
D. T.Good atmosphere and customer service. Does food. On Saturday night the music was quite loud so if you want a quiet pub then this pub won't be for you. Having said that l have been there on Sunday and the music is measured I.e. not intrusive. Nice outdoor seating area out back. Does 2-1 pizzas on Monday night and also does 2 pizzas and bottle of wine for 30 quid on Friday night. I had the pizza and was pleased with it. Sweets I.e dolly mixtures etc available by the whisky glass for the sweet toothed brigade. l noticed they do speed dating nights for students as well.

N. H.Lovely find, I wanted somewhere to work from for a few hours and this was perfect, good free WiFi, plug sockets, lots of quiet little corners and the food and hospitality was top notch. I had a very tasty mushroom lasagne and there were lots of veggie options. The hosts were especially helpful and welcoming
M.Had a roast which was amazinggggg! Absolute food coma!!! Lovely staff and the owner is a down to earth friendly guy who showed us the gorgeous garden out the back. Highly recommend.... big step up from the Franklin Arms before

S. S.Much nicer than the old Franklin and staff are great but prices are off the charts! £5.70 for a pint of Moretti and £22+ for a bottle of Pinot etc etc! Not to mention £17- £20+ + for a roast with cauliflower cheese!! Silly prices for Lewes Road and no wonder it’s always empty. Such a shame because the place would be full if the prices were reasonable and in line with the area it serves.

M. J.Both staff but in particular Lewis was service personified; he was attentive, funny and proactive. There were numerous amount of deals, we attended on Monday when it was 2 for 1 pizza, they were good bang for your buck. Lovely atmosphere inside and out.
Will definitely be going back there sometime in the near future!

P. B.People who remember this pub as the Franklin will be quite surprised at the way the re-vamped Lewes Road Inn looks and feels now. The interior has a warmth of colour, and there is a covered front balcony and also an enclosed garden at the back.
Mondays are the 2-for-1 Pizza offer, and I picked two of the four vegetarian pizzas on offer, a side salad, and a bottle of Pinot which was just over £20. After the wine was delivered to our table, another server came up with the card reader and asked us to pay for the drinks and food now. In this Covid19 era, I didn’t have the wit to say “hold on, we expect to taste the food first”, and was promptly debited £48. Seafront prices, as they had forgotten their 2-for-1 offer. This overcharge was rectified only when I queried it.
The pizzas came quickly enough and you are supplied with a pizza wheel to cut them up with, which is a nice trick if you can do it on a pottery lipped plate on a slippery table. I would think it easier to cut a pizza on a wooden board before serving it.
The mushroom pizza “Pretty Fly For A Funghi” [sic] is an example of what pizza should be like. Bursting with flavour and texture, this pizza is totally authentic, and I will return and eat that again, frequently.
The aubergine pizza “‘Gine Genie” [sic] ... not so much. The aubergine meatballs, although interesting on their own, are bland, and as they are coated in breadcrumb and deep fried, they are also very fatty. I tried mashing them to spread them over the slice, and added rocket leaf salad to try and boost the flavour, but it simply does not work. As my chef partner on the night said: “Don’t try and be fancy with pizzas; stick to the basics, basics which have been tried and tested over generations”.
During our stay there was a jazz band playing, their sound rattling around even the back rooms, as apart from a few rugs there are no soft furnishings to dampen the noise. Whenever the drummer got going it became difficult to communicate with the staff. The management need to decide if they are a music venue, or just wanted some background Trad Jazz while people eat, and then the band can “let rip” after service.
All that being said, all can be forgiven when tasting the mushroom pizza, and marvelling at the transformation from the old Franklin. And, with real beer (eg. Harvey’s) flowing from the pumps, I’ll certainly be back.
N. A.Nipped into the pub last minute & food / drink / service was GREAT! Dog friendly, brought them water, staff were so lovely and relaxed and happy. Service was super quick. There was a great selection of food - for Veggies it’s so good!!- food was DELICIOUS, and such good value. Nice vibes & all around cracking evening. Will be back!!!

G. S.I had Sunday lunch last weekend with my wife, 2 y/o son and in-laws. Between us we had a vegan option, vege and beef Sunday lunch. All were great and the staff friendly and attentive. It's newly done up and lots of space so if you're concerned about social distancing this is a good pub to visit! Would certainly recommend giving it a go 😀

J. M.Called for a quick drink - stayed for lunch. Lovely quiet pub after walking along a busy noisy road. Pizzas excellent - proper home made ones. I had ths artichoke and spicy sausage pappardelle. Different and delicious. Beautifully renovated, very clean, great service and good coronavirus measures in place.

G. R.A good pub that tries too hard. If you're looking for a covid safe pub, you won't find much better than here: the staff have face coverings, they're fastidious about registering, and they're pleasant with it.
The atmosphere and decor is weird. If you want olive coloured walls, Bagpuss china plates mounted to the wall, neon signs, kitch Brighton art and vulgar lamp shades, then this might be the place for you.
The service is nice, the food is good and there's much much worse places to go, it's just strange but not in the Brighton-kitch kinda way.
