I've never visited here before despite living close by but I observed from afar and thought it looked nice. I enjoyed a delicious bangers and mash washed down with a decent cider on tap. The bar staff were really friendly. Small inside but really nice vibe. Toilets were clean. They have made a decent heated outdoor area for these times.... Cool place. One of the better pubs near the dials.

Really impressed with our roast this Sunday. It’s hard to get a lovely piece of pork with proper crackling these days. Shakespeare’s Head delivered not only that but also with an energetic atmosphere and a warm fire. Left super happy.

We went to the Shakespeare's Head for lunch and a drink. We were not disappointed! This place is as cosy as it gets, with a roaring fire and board games for anyone to play. The drinks are reasonably priced, the bar staff were friendly, and the food! Wow. They specialise in sausages and mash with gravy, and there are loads of options that you can mix and match. I had irish pork and apple, and my partner had vegan sausages; both dishes were superb. Very much looking forward to having this place as our local when we move to 7Dials this year!

In early December, the touring party that I was with were all craving bangers and mash, and somehow managed to stumble across this place via a quick Google search. I admitted that I had never actually tried bangers and mash, so I was a tad hesitant to try something new that day. However, my socks were completely knocked off when I tried their vegan Cumberland, garlic and rosemary mash with red onion gravy, with a side of kale! The only downside was that they had run out of their chocolate brownie that I had ordered for dessert. I am still giving 5 stars nonetheless, as the food was spectacular!

Another of those quirky Brighton pubs I have a hard time avoiding (not that I'd want to). Great music, and quite a young crowd; it's busy to the point where finding a seat could be a problem and standing isn't really an option, although they somehow manage to avoid crowds at the bár (I was there on a Saturday). It's a warren, and you don't always know whether you're inside or out. An Alice in Wonderland theme would suit this place very well. Then there's the Green Room, which is great for party bookings, as it gives access to the bar from the other side, but you might not otherwise know it was there, unless you had stumbled into it from the street, through the rather non-distinct door that might just as well be a fire exit. If you go back out through that door you will find some of the most interesting topography an urban pub could offer

The Sunday roast of the establishment is well known. However I found it standard, I've had way better Sunday roast. The price is okay, but when I asked for more potatoes because they put literally 2 small pieces, they brought 5 small pieces more and charged £5. That was really overpriced.

Exceptionally long wait for food that was tasty but not the best roast dinner. Book and pre-ordered in advance but still waiting 1.5hr for food to arrive. Their excuse was that there were a lot of big tables in and they didn't have enough plates etc but better planning could have definitely made for a more efficient service - particularly when all the tables are pre planned!

Went to the S.H. for my little girl birthday celebration as her favorite its their hotdog! i had sausage and mash which was like in my memories before covid. Came to check out their Sunday roast as it came highly recommended and I was not disappointed. I have to say it was the best (pork belly) roast I can remember ever having. I'm really fussy about yorkshires and a roast is ruined if the yorkshire pudd is dry, overcooked cardboard. The Shakespeares Head's yorkshire pudd was cooked to perfection. Sooo delicious and well presented. The veg and pork were also equally as delicious. They do a really good Bloody Mary too. As a rule, you have to book in advance for a table on Sunday (two sittings and you can pre-order your roast to avoid them running out before you arrive). We hadn't booked so instead sat by the window on stools. Great, great, great!!!

Went here for the bangers and mash, was not disappointed. Had the Sussex sausages in cheddar and stilton mash with thyme and port gravy. Partner had pork and leek on confit garlic and rosrmary mash. Both dishes were very tasty, juicy sausages with creamy mash.

Best pub roast, no, best roast dinner full stop. Maybe even better than my Mum's. Seriously. Have tried the chicken and the pork, both bloody lovely. Perfectly roasted potatoes. Perfect Yorkshire's. Perfectly moist meat. Good selection of the veges. Only thing I'd ask for is for salt and pepper and mustard to be there at the table so I'm not wandering around looking for some like a hungry customer whilst this excellent plate is cooling down. Have to try the great selection of bangers and mash next.

AMAZING!! very busy so had to wait a bit for Sunday lunch, but when our lamb shanks roast lunches arrived they were AMAZING! First time to the Shakespeare and what a find. We had an excellent Sunday lunch, and the range of beers was especially good, considering we're still in partial lockdown. It's only a short 5-10 minute walk from the station and away from the main part of town, but its definitely worth seeking out, you won't be disappointed. Great place for veggies and carnivores Tasty food A slight criticism this time The veggie Cumberland sausages looked very boring/dull especially alongside the Boar sausages which were huge almost twice the size but still the same price for both. Made it feel like veggies were subsidising the carnivores!!! Not a good feeling If anything the veggie options should be cheaper!! Also they ran out of puddings and only option was ice-cream and even here they had run out of all but two. So overall we like this place but hope they can improve veggie options when compared to what the meat eaters get. Their card machine also didn't work so a little way to go to get things working Hope they read their reviews
