Reviews of White Horse Hotel
D. P.
Quick visit for a drink after a walk along the Seafront, Great location, plenty of seats outside with great views of the sea, friendly staff, quick service despite it being busy on a Sunday lunchtime, Food looked good, Also a hotel, which I now plan to stay this summer.
K. S.
Came here after being disappointed by multiple places by failing to make a Sunday lunch reservation.
We was very pleasantly surprised honestly staff were semi attentive was informed on entering that it was cash only which thankfully my girlfriend saved the day.
Food was amazing (see attached pics).
Bathrooms were clean enough.
J. A.
Our room was fantastic. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Especially Gaye
Service in the restaurant was a little slow the night we dined there and many dishes were not available.
Overall we had a great stay and it is right on the beach. Bus stop outside takes you straight into Brighton.
L. B.
Had a lovely English breakfast today ,plenty of everything on plates. Our daughter had the veggie option which she enjoyed .Staff are very friendly and the service was great . we also took our dog . we will be going again and would recommend. Great prices and good food .
L. M. S.
Beautiful place to enjoy a drink, friendly staff, nice prices. One star less as the Aperol did have quite a strong taste of chlorine, wouldn’t choose again but definitely come back :)
R. S.
The food was exceptional, and they have great vegan options - I went for the mushroom and ale pie!
The service was brilliant, even when very busy, and the view was lovely.
A perfect spot to eat after a walk.
A. T.
As always the Whitehorse has come up trumps. As regulars we spent Christmas day 2021 having lunch.
We were looked after exceptionally well the ambiance and food was even better then last year.
Thank you so much from Vivienne and Anita

Easy to park with no payment when staying at the hotel. Meet by Alex at reception really lovely welcome and a great start to my stay. Beautiful sea view room on the ground floor, even though seating just outside my window couldn't hear a thing other than seagulls. Went for a stroll along the beautiful coastline and returned for a beer. Nicole served me very pleasant young lady who set me up a tab and made me feel very comfortable. Drinks were cold and in a clean glass ( trust sometimes there not!) I ordered the mussels for starters and steak for main everything tasted delicious and I've returned to my spacious room with a full belly. Great place would highly recommend 👌

Amazing place and the rooms are so nice with lovely large beds, the staff could not be more helpful and the food was beyond good.

Myself & my boyfriend stayed at this hotel for two nights. We booked a double room which was lovely. We were very happy with it. The staff were welcoming. The food was lovely, we had breakfast both days & had an evening meal one of the days which was also very nice. I would 100% come back again and would recommend if you are after a break. I had never been to Rottingdean before but I really liked it!
J. C.
Had a late morning breakfast here with my wife today - our second visit this summer. We sat on the outside terrace looking out to sea, which was fabulous given the hot sunny weather. Some confusion over how to access the terrace on arrival since it was chained off and the door to the bar was closed. We didn't have a booking but there were plenty of empty tables. Once we had checked with staff we were quickly able to order and sit down. Food was plentiful and great value. The staff were friendly and service was pretty good. Always worth a visit.

I just went to a bar. Verh good price with a great service. The calamary is recommended as they made it very crunchy with great texture.. the Cod is fine. I would prefer to get the lunch or dinner here better than in Brighton as you have the space, and better view with less crowd
E. G.
The hotel is located near the sea. Absolutely magnificent view. Very kind staff. The hotel's restaurant is excellent. There are a few restaurants in the surroundings, tesco express. I will definitely be back in this hotel.
Z. G.
Very comfortable, excellent food. The slow roast lamb shoulder just melted and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were excellent. Definitely stay there again.
t.
Located in Rottingdean and handy to the bus stop into Brighton, the hotel is good value, has a good bar, friendly staff, decent food, and clean secure rooms that being honest could do with some modernisation.
T. I.
I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Great location in a lovely town. Hotel is facing the ocean. The bus stop is just in front of the hotel with multiple regular buses available to get to Brighton or Eastbourne. Friendly staff and a nice bar with a reasonable selection of food. Will come back again
M. P.
Wonderful buffet served this lunch time for a 80th birthday, fabulous staff, fantastic food, well done to all concerned, you all done so well. Thankyou.
A. H.
A beautiful location with lovely views. A great team of staff. Many thanks 😊
I. E.
If you want a quiet pub for a casual drink, this is not the pub for you, this is more of a family place, I can't comment on the food but the restaurant area was pretty full so it must be ok.
N. W.
This is a lovely pub to go to! It has far views over the sea and, when it's warmer, a garden to sit in facing the sea!! It's easy to get to by bus to and from Brighton but does have a car park opposite the pub! It's in a lovely village called Rottingdean which is a lovely walk too! The beer has a good choice but it does all sorts of drinks hot as well!! The food is very nice, we both had their Signature Gammon and Eggs!! This included a home made Scotch Egg with a runny egg inside!! It was very nice and didn't take long to cook fresh!! Willbe going back when next in the area!!
G. B.
I went to the whitehorse restaurant today for my birthday meal booked at 12 o'clock lunch time today ...had s warm welcome on arrival when myself and my partner arrived ...we was showed to our table by Gina who was our waitress for our occasion...she was outstanding bubbly snd professional everything was tickatyboo...food was amazing thank you Gina for your service and making us special and thank you to the staff amazing day we will definitely be booking again soon regards gary and Andrea
J. A.
Friendly and great location near the beach. Good breakfast but room a bit tired, bathroom needed a repaint. Friday night was noisy till 10.30 with loud disco music, unfortunately I needed an early night due to an equally early start the next day so not too happy. Overall an okay hotel at a reasonable price.....
R. K.
The drinks were good, food was ok. Nicole our server was funny, helpful and amazing.
r.
Be aware that it’s a paid carpark run by Brittania parking , At 6.30 on a dark evening I unfortunately did not see the sign and thought that it was just the pub car park so it’s going to cost me £60 more for just a glass of wine, My mistake but it means that I won’t be returning.
£60 is a bit much as well but most of these parking companies are snide.
M. N.
Great place, amazing room. Great amazing friendly staff. Great food. Would definitely recommend and we are definitely going back again real soon
K. F.
Attended birthday celebration here today.
Beautifully presented buffet with plenty of food.Great service and attention to detail.
A. K.
Very nice place located in Rotherham near Brighton, around 100£ single and 140£ double room if you're lucky enough to get it. Beautiful view to the sea from your room balcony.. Worth to mention about spacious carpark just next to it😉 and it doesn't cost a fortune ether!
N. G.
One of the best places I've stayed. The food is fantastic, the rooms clean and pleasant and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
I'll certainly be back.
C. B.
Clean, tidy and friendly staff. I checked in a little late, and a which point meal service was in full swing. I recommend going into the bar area to get attention to check in. As the phone was not answered. Also would be nice to be able to lock the room door internally to make guests feel more at ease.
J. M. Y.
Awesome restaurant/bar that has outdoor seating overlooking the ocean. This place is dog friendly that automatically gave it one star. Rooms are clean, but missing amenities like a blow dryer (or I didn't see when I stayed here). Has a private parking lot which is important.
S. Q.
Lovely old pub, beautiful views but the front totally spoilt by a very ugly fence which now stops access to the front. Everyone has to traipse around the side to the back to get inside. Totally spoilt the look. Not everyone is going to bother with that and will just walk straight past. Lost custom is never wise.
A.
Lovely place. Good value. Only one glitch when one day they were short staffed and it showed. No complaints though even then they did their best.
P. Y.
Unpretentious but homely local in Rottingdean. By the slipway down to the beach and undercliff.
A Freehouse with Harveys Best bitter as its regular. The beer is kept well; always tasting very good. In good weather head upstairs for the veranda with great views southwest towards Brighton Marina & the coast.
B. G.
Love this place. The view from the balcony is amazing and you can watch the tide sipping coffee. The food is great and the staff are very friendly. Post covid safeguards are excellent and the rooms are comfortable and clean.
P. R.
nice place. just met friends but there were a lot of people eating. Watch the car parking or the fines are horrendous
J. D.
Great serving staff and good food.
p. f.
Had the trio of meats Roasts. Could have had a bit more colour on the Roast Potatoes but apart from that was fine. Staff all very friendly.
D. W.
We had the most wonderful festive meal out all 14 of us food amazing, staff wonderful only felt bar prices were a bit much were on a parr with other places but if having a meal could do with some sort of offer on drinks
P. G.
Realy great
The stuf is good the food out of 1 to 10 I give 7 as i was with my daughter she love it I will make sure I will be back .
The rooms is very good and clean
c. s.
Absolute lovely place to stay. Lovely hotel staff very pleasant food is excellent highly recommended.
M. H.
Great Sunday roast out on the balcony at the White horse, good beers and wine too. Amazing views from outside looking over the sea
T. G.
Super location for heading into Brighton or just idly enjoying the see and village life
A. M.
First time I have been here & even with the social distancing on place I had a nice meal & a couple beers . The staff were very helpful & the pub itself was very pleasant. Should I be in this part of the world again I would come again.
B. H.
I have just spent the last few days at the White Horse on a Christmas break. Very friendly and excellent value for money. Really enjoyed it.
C. S.
Good Sunday breakfast and lunch . Enjoyable day with Tribute bands to raise money for Cancer Research . Helpful staff especially Jo Anne
M. M.
Whenever I've been to the White Horse I've always felt a great family atmosphere from the management and staff. Everyone there seems to care about the service and there always seems to be the right amount of staff on hand and the food is of a very good standard. The music nights have a fantastic feel-good vibe and everyone has a great time. Oh and as for staying there the whole place is kept up to a very good standard and not to mention Location Location Location!
T. W.
Looking forward to packing the car up and heading back here. Very friendly staff and room always lovely and clean. Nice selection of drinks and good menu. Outdoor area is lovely when weather is good. Have missed being able to sit in a bar and have a drink so roll on 12.4.2021
S. C.
Hotel location is excellent and front view's are amazing. Only downside was lack of staff in restaurant. Starter came out with no cutlery and 5 mins after my colleagues. Then a few other issues that took the shine off. Need more/better trained staff. Team leader/manager kept walking about talking into his radio saying all staff to kitchen immediately. Still had no effect but gave the other customers some hope of service.
S. G.
Can't wait to go back in the summer. The staff are really friendly and the owners.make you feel really welcome.
The food was amazing and the drinks well priced!
We had an amazing sea view from our room and can't wait to re book when it opens up again. 😁
K. S.
This hotel was lovely with an amazing view of the sea. Room 5 was very quiet, well maintained, clean with a very cosy bed to sleep in. We ventured into Brighton as we had a gig to see at the Brighton Dome. We walked all the way there which took us just over an hour but was a nice walk along the coastline. We got a number 14 bus back from the pier to the hotel which cost £2.60 adult one way and the stop going both directions is right outside the White Horse. You can use cash, contactless or a prepaid ticket to get on the bus which is good as I live just outside London where they only take oyster or contactless so the cash option was good for me. There is more than one bus route you can use. I liked the option of the white horse as the prices were much more reasonable than in Brighton itself with free parking and Wi-fi. The breakfast selection was varied with cereals, pastries, bread/toast with lots of spreads, fresh juice, tea, coffee and cooked breakfast options too which was nice. Staff were polite and I would recommend this hotel.
E. D.
Am staying at the White Horse in Rottingdean...an absolutely beautiful location and stunning views. The room I am in is very shabby and dated but cannot fault the view and balcony. But sadly the basic expectation I had was a working TV without signal problems and the internet .The duty manager was absolutely lovely and tried to sort out my problems...felt embarrassed for the guy ....please can management sort out these problems. X
S. B.
Great service from the staff.
13 in our party, 11 different meals plus 1 child.
All meals came out together piping hot.
Would certainly reccomend.
R. A.
Nice food great service ans the perfect view
S. B.
Family meal for mum's birthday food very nice and staff very friendly
K. C.
The location is lovely perched on the cliff overseeing the sea. Service was a mixed bag: an eagle-eyed member of staff noticed that our order hadn't been entered into the system so took it order again to make sure it was sent to the kitchen. Unfortunately, two out of three drinks didn't arrive. The staff were all very friendly and polite, and rectified the problem when notified.
Food was mediocre. The chicken blt open sandwich was cold: all of it, the chicken, the bacon, the toasted bread. Deep fried items came piping hot which only served to highlight how cold the sandwich was.
J. B.
Absolutely love this place! When the sun is out there is no better place to be and the staff were so friendly. Thank you for a great meal 👍
J. B.
Had a lovely stay at the White Horse Hotel, we had the sea view room which was dated but very comfortable and clean. Couldn't fault the food and the staff were all happy and helpful. Will be returning.
I. S.
We went to the pub not to the hotel itself.
Service is 10/10, stuff is very friendly and great prices. Location is perfect with Sunset view on the sea.
D. C.
Pub only: beautiful spot. The menu is nice and the ingredients fresh and nicely prepared. Gluten free options are alright not spectacular. Food is alright but bland. Service is friendly but nearly nonexistent. I won't be back.
l. h.
Fab location, fab food and fab staff. Lloyd was especially helpful and a really nice guy.
Lisa & Dave, from Kent
J. M.
The greeter found us a shady table , it was a hot day.
Our servers were Mia R and Joe, two absolutely delightful young people. Efficient, friendly and helpful. Thanks 🙏 And our food was delicious!
Ladies from Derbyshire.

Visited rottingdean today and decided to call into the white horse. Good social distancing in place with outside tables, and sanitizing stations in place.tables and chairs sanitized after each customer. Meal was great and good value for money. Brilliant customer service from Jake, lloyd and Carol.made us feel really welcome and nothing to much trouble. Would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again.
K. L.
Great service. Food is not a la carte but just good pub grub and value for money especially kids selection.
S. I.
Place ok but in need of decoration through out rooms etc. Bar nice but seem to close when they feel like it we came back from Brighton at 915pm only to find bar closed even though they advertise 11pm so not impressed with that.
Staff very friendly apart from guy on door 5pm Tuesday afternoon 8th June 21 who is need of customer service training
S. T.
nice view, have open terrace ,good kitchen in middle price class, near bus stop , have own parking
J. D.
Great location, couldn't fathom why there's some horrible completely ill placed and built trellis on the frontage, its a right off put. Come on #GreenKing Brewery's keep Rottingdean beautiful!
M. S.
Went there with my parents, had some drinks, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Great views.
J. A.
Really impressed with everything. Food was lush and came out hot. Front of house staff were wonderful and very accommodating - we only moved table 3 times lol once from the smoking bench to outside table then inside due to weather change. The view from outside is incredible. The distancing and general awareness of the present situation was outstanding. We will be back. Thanks.
S. H.
It's formula but it's fine. The food is OK, the service friendly enough and you're close to the sea. It's table service indoors but the drinks can take a little while to arrive. Outdoors is split level. The upper level enjoys a sea view but the lower level gets a view of the sea wall. I'm not a fan of ordering by the app.
S. C.
The white horse hotel is an excellent pub and hotel situated in a beautiful location in the lovely village of Rottingdean. The food is amazing, the bar has a good selection of drinks. They even have sky and bt sports. The live entertainment is excellent which happens quite frequently but the best thing of all has to be the staff and the management . They are so nice, polite and very friendly helpful people. I will continue using the white horse hotel for a very long time to come.
P. H.
Had an excellent stay. Clean, friendly staff, good breakfast, couldn't ask for more. Only slight problem was the loud traffic noise from busy main road just outside our window.
A. B.
My wife and I had our reception here and decided to return for our 7th anniversary meal, we were really well looked after and food service and seating were amazing, also a really good veggie menu!, Well done white horse
l. g.
The front balcony rooms have a stunning view. Perfect for watching the sun come up 😊
m. s.
Very nice pub the staff were amazing so hospitable
The food service was very slow coming from the kitchen don't have the budget menu the portions are the smallest I've seen in the civilised world
The food was well cooked just not enough of it
V. M.
Great location! Usual English pub fare. Comfortable rooms.
1.
Always had a great time when I have stayed at the white horse rottingdean, the staff are very attentive and the food is cooked perfectly. Often there is entertainment in the evening at weekends which is always of a high quality. Cannot wait to visit once they are back open
R. P.
On our last visit we had disappointment this we mentioned they promised to put things right and they most certainly did thanks to all the staff 👍
T. H.
Decor a little tired but clean. Everything else OK apart from the food in restaurant which is a bit hit or miss. Will go back one day when initial opening after covid is more settled.
S. B.
Nice 'middle of the road pub/hotel which we have stayed at a few times now, just outside Brighton but easily accessed by several buses stop and drop off right opposite. Best rooms are the seaview ones for quietness (we stayed in room 19),the ones on the road side can be noisy as, can the car park side ones. Parking is FREE if you stay there but be aware that it's a public car park so first come first served...we were lucky though!Lovely little village setting with a couple of other nice pubs that do food, coffee shops and convenience stores. The White Horse is an older building but rooms very clean and comfortable. Staff so friendly, especially the reception and breakfast ones....George and Carol. Good choice of breakfasts to choose from and food of high quality. Brighton Marina about
1.5 hours if you walk it along the coastal path. Nice stay and cheaper than Brighton itself.
P. F.
Had sunday roast 13th september. Service at first a bit slow but it was about 14.00 hours. Ordered roast pork it was very good and a good portion. Large glass of wine. Thought the price was very good. Keep it up boys and girls 5*
G. R.
Nice hotel - ideally situated for the ferryport - lots of on site parking
L. R.
Good location. Room with sea views. Friendly welcoming staff. Nice Green King Abbot Ale. Very good, efficient service. Seems like a well run hotel.
s. p.
Very friendly staff and very good cyder👍
I. A. F. F.
Spent 3 days here and the weather was terrible mostly. however, the staff raised our spirits and made up for the depressing weather. loved the food and the room was clean and spacious. special thanks to Laz (manager i think), waitress Carol and receptionist Gaye. will defiantly be coming back when the weather is better. xx
K. F.
Friendly staff, good value. Had a singer on Saturday who was fun
L. S.
Well done While Horse Hotel.
What a joy to be able to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine in a safe environment. The table service was excellent and the staff were so pleasant and helpful. Everything was well sanitised and well space making it feel very safe.
P. M.
Could not recommend highly enough. Fabulous setting and views, lovely rooms and wonderful staff who could not do enough to make our stay as perfect as it was.
J. H.
A good meal, reasonably priced in a cash strapped January. A well stocked bar with real ale just right. Good staff there when you need them, but don't get in the way asking if everyone's OK every five minutes. Lunch time visit with friends for my birthday. What's not to like? We'll be back.
P. R.
Excellent dog friendly hotel, clean spacious room with access straight onto the sea front for those early morning/late night walkies. Good breakfast and very reasonably priced.
C. S.
Lovely Sunday lunch at very reasonable prices. Deffo will revisit
K. H.
Just leaving this lovely hotel after enjoying a wonderful New Years Eve celebrations at the Hotel and a relaxing three night stay. The food served was excellent. Our room was lovely, very clean bright and airy with a beautiful comfy bed and pillows. The hotel does not have a lift, however there are ground floor rooms if stairs are a problem. In general the decor could do with freshening up and for this reason I have awarded a 4 star. This Hotel is perfectly placed for the pebble beach and lovely prom walk. Good car parking, then leave your car and use the buses to explore, which are in plentiful supply. Coming from Bristol we are jealous of such a good bus service. Full marks to the hotel management and staff who kept up the pace with a smile. Can highly recommend staying at this hotel.
D. P.
Excellent service Good food and a great location and view
m. w.
Food is pretty good and price ok. Good children's menu. Lovely views over the sea from inside and outdoor seating facing water is a must in summer. Service is friendly and helpful, although not the fastest. (May have been short staffed on that Sunday).
D. D.
Megan and Gaye are the stars, nothing is too much trouble. Food disappointing. Lovely location. Not the best of rooms but great views.
N. P. A.
Excellent service today.Mostly young staff Freindly and very helpful Sunday lunch treat for my BIRTHDAY with my best friend Jacqui. Loved the Sunday Roast. Had Turkey. She had fish and chips.plus bottle prosecco Had lovely table on raised Sun deck. Thanks very much. Recommended.
A. M.
Very good size room very clean .Free parking on site helpful and friendly staff. Ideal location .very good restaurant and bar recommended.
W. K.
Clean room, limited facilities. Great location but the bar service was super poor. Breakfast was good as was the morning service.
K. H.
Amazing customer service, waitress was so friendly and optimistic. The food was brilliant. We went for the Rump steak and chips for £7. Steak was really juicy and perfectly cooked. Chips were really fluffy.
Lovely view of the sea.
Overall, amazing experience!
J. F.
I have visited this place a few times and itbhad been cery good. However, on this occasion it fell short. My colleague ordered the Squid and when it turned up it was cold. We had to ask for a replacemement and that was not much better. I ordered the Rump Streak with Peppercorn sauce. My colleague ordered the cod and chips. The fish was OK. The steak was a little tough and not very hot. The portions were also not great. Lastly tje service was exceptionally slow. Sorry to say not a great experience. Hopfully theu can get it better in the future. I will give it another go in the future.
A. M.
Very clean and bed super comfy. Room facing road so found traffic noise unhelpful for sleeping. Shower in high sided bath but felt everything very clean. Breakfast hot and well cooked so overall 4 stars
J. G.
First time eating out for some months. Very Covid secure. The systems worked and the service was prompt and friendly. Most important the food was good. We will be back.
T. M.
Well placed pub just on the bus route for Rottingdean. Lovely view of the sea on the terrace outside. Can't vouch for the accommodation but the food and drink is what can be expected from a Greene king pub. The vegan options are unfortunately limited, but the staff are some of the nicest I have met post-lockdown, and the standards they have in place to cope with social distancing take a moment to learn, but make sense when you have done so.
The manager and waiting staff are fonts of local knowledge also, and should be heeded. Can definitely vouch that if you're after a good pint with a good view you cannot go far wrong in Rottingdean.
C. F.
Decor in poor condition but waitress and food good.
J. C.
Better with table service on the app then it ever was. Use to have to walk out trying to get a drink. Now days for some reason you get get a drink within minutes at your table! Why they couldn't give that level of service before the bug I dont know?
I. B.
Bon Jovi night was fun although John Bonjovi never broke into a sweat or in deed sang that well. Gr8 night
E. W.
Friendly service and very organised. Extensive menu with great vegan Choice. Our server was Chandler who helped to make our lunchtime comfortable. Thank you
s. k.
Can’t fault this place. Friendly welcome, room with a view! (And what a view may I add) great value for money. Plenty of parking. Great position.
D. S.
Ordered fillet and sirloin steaks for a treat but despite requesting one to be cooked medium, it came up so rare it could have walked off the plate. The manager seemed indifferent to my feedback but provided a new meal. I didn't have the heart to let him know that one turned up nearer to well done. Attentive service from the waitress though.
J. H.
The room in the hotel had its own problems including mould and rot in the bathroom but aside from that, in the pub we received the best table service from all the staff but a gentleman called Kieran in particular stood out. Thanks for tonight!
J. L.
Mia our server was absolutely phenomenal, made us aware of the all of the specials on offer with an excellent attitude and brilliant beaming smile. She is a credit to your staff. On another note, the food was awesome, would fully reccomend the fish and chips. Up there with the best I've ever had. However, I would say the head chef/manager seemed to be a bit condescending towards her, unnessacarily in my opinion as she was new. Please give her a fair chance because her service was exemplary. Thank a lot
J. W.
Amazing staff gutted no rooms x
H. S.
Great roasts, massive portions friendly staff well worth a visit
H. I.
Lovely meal by the sea. Their covid secure system was very professional while still maintaining a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Well done to all the staff and thanks for a lovely meal.
m. k.
My wife and I popped in for a couple before heading home and glad we did, the service was fantastic from all staff with a special mention to Nigel keep up the great work guys.
T. T.
Very nice beach around quite quiet place.
J. T.
The food was nice, but there were three of us and I meals where not served together, which was disappointing. But I give the staff there due they offered us free deserts without us even complaining. In fact the staff were very nice and friendly.
A. D.
Friendly staff, nice pub but book a table to eat otherwise it might be a long wait or you might be disappointed not to get a table, especially if the weather is nice. Don't forget to pay for your parking!!
P. J.
Have stayed and eaten at this pub/hotel a number of times now. I have always found the staff helpful and friendly. The rooms vary, some are very nice but others could do with a refresh. The breakfast when you stay is very good with a selection of choices. I have eaten in the restaurant in the evening a few times with mixed experiences. The food has been as I would expect for this type of place. However, the service has been mixed with a long wait for food on some occasions. Worth noting that on a sunny day the patio overlooking the sea is a lovely place to sit for a drink or two.
L. N.
Excellent meal, friendly staff and felt safe with their COVID rules. Excellent value for money.
J. F.
Staff tried hard but coffee cold, brought out the wrong size wine, smaller than paid for. However, would go back if we walk that way again.
K. L.
Went for a mother's Day meal, took a bit long between courses, which is surprising as the food was reheated, waitresses missed out on opertinities to sell us more drinks when we were empty. Lovely little hotel in a really good spot, watch out for the parking though as it does require a ticket.

Beautiful place, beautiful people
Extra mention to Nigel, Ellie, Gaye, Lloyd and Carol
Many thanks and see you soon

Good pub on the seafront in Rottingdean. Nice, clean and roomy. Excellent food and beer. Lovely for an evening meal. Not to busy in the week. Pay for parking and get a voucher to redeem at the bar when you purchase a meal or drink. Nice view of the sea. Good 😊
J. L.
Friendly staff, good rooms delicious breakfast great location, one small problem the bar staff could not pull a decent Guinness they pulled it like other beers too the top of the glass, instead of putty a good head on it. The terrace outside was a great place to have a drink and a meal, above all that they had parking
O. M.
I've been here about 5-6 times in the past year and the food has always been good. The serve is what you'd expect however when things don't go as you'd hope they always find a way to compensate any problems. The drinks are good and the views are very impressive. Would recommend coming here at least once
A. V.
Beautiful location. We went in a sunny autum Sunday for a late lunch and it wasn't busy at all. Staff were always friendly. Place is cute and in order and facilities were clean. There is accommodation a so well. We enjoyed the ale. I had a quinoa burger but unfortunately the chips were absolutely disgusting, thin, extra fried and oily...
W. H.
Good food and accommodation and friendly staff
D. G.
Whitehouse is always nice for a quite drink. Staff are serviable and polite. Food is good pub grub drinks are fairly priced.
N. D.
There are many places that should look at Stephen, one of the bar staff at the White Horse, as the way things should be done. We ordered food and one of the fish and chips seemed dodgy (it was orange!), so I took it to the bar. Stephen suggested it might have "been tangoed" but agreed it wasn't right and took it straight into the kitchen to get it replaced. 20 mins later the replacement hadn't arrived. The kitchen hadn't sussed that I might want a replacement (!) But Stephen quickly sorted that out. By the time I'd finished my food (some time after everyone else by this point), the kids' desserts hadn't arrived. Again Stephen chased and sorted it.
The food was really good quality, although the kitchen didn't cover itself in glory, and we left thinking and saying good things about the place simply because this one member of staff understood what great customer service means - and delivered. Thanks Stephen
J. L.
Stopped at the White Horse for a pint as a reward after a walk along from the Marina. The pub has plenty of seating both in the bar area and in the restaurant section. There is also a large outside seating area that overlooks the sea and catches the last few rays of sun at 7pm. The staff are lovely and friendly too. Never had a bad experience in the White Horse
A. P.
A nice warm welcome, plenty of room to move around, please waitress who was very helpful.
Nice food which came quite quickly all well cooked, good selection of drinks, the presseco offer on Friday very good.
A most enjoyable evening.
J. D.
I stopped here for the restaurant rather than to sleep. The food is pub food but competent in a microwaved/fried kind of way, and although there was a 45 minute wait this was stated before ordering so it's workable. The saving grace is the outside tables looking out in the beach, which are stunning on a sunny day and will bring me back in future.
C. S.
The White Horse is in a great location but more bar staff are needed. I waited to place a food order (this was mid week & not a busy weekend). There were 2 people taking orders for drinks (one of who seemed to be new) plus taking food orders.. plus having to serve food. I stood there for over 15minutes & having worked in customer service myself, it would have been polite to have have at least been acknowledged. I eventually gave up & left without ordering. Very disappointed.
S. B.
Dog friendly, staff bent over backwards to accommodate and were polite and friendly. Room was very comfortable. Definitely would stay again, very enjoyable stay.
J.
Lovely venue with great menu and views. Dogs welcome at bar. Seating indoors and out. Formal/informal areas depending on preference. Service was a bit slow initially but was very friendly and prompt once food was ordered. Relaxed atmosphere and music at a comfortable volume. Will visit again.
C. P.
I had lunch on the 28th of August, myself and my cousin had the steak and kidney pudding, followed by a choux bun filled with cream and served with strawberries and a prosecco coulis.i would also like to mention the lovely waitress called Ellie very polite and nothing was too much trouble please pass this on to her.i will definitely be back.😊👍.
A. F.
Love The White Horse Hotel. I eat here approximately once a fortnight. Great selection of food (and I am very fussy). Staff always friendly and they also have a value menu if you are on a budget. Highly recommended especially with the outside terrace on the sea front of Rottingdean.
B. P.
Lovely food and good staff everyone was happy .
B. S. (.
Had a great stay here lovely room overlooking the sea which wasn't inviting during a storm in February. Typical pub chain very good value for money clean tidy and a comfy bed. Very convenient to Brighton with a bus stop outside and a regular service. Yes I would stay here again.
D. T.
We walked along the coast from Brighton Beach and stopped at the White Horse for some drinks in the sun, on the terrace. Loads of space for sitting outside. Great views and full sun all day. Perfect for summer drinks. Really quick service and the staff are very friendly. Have stayed in the pub previously, the rooms are ok, nothing to write home about, but the view in the morning is perfection. Sunrise from your own balcony. Enjoy!
B. D.
It's a pub. On the "Weatherspoons" model I suppose. Goodish, cheap grub. Though chef had somehow managed to burn the edges of my otherwise good "steamed" steak and kidney pudding and my mash had a "heat lamp crust"! I enjoyed the non heat treated bulk though. Arguably the best S&K pud for a while (surely these are almost invariably bought in everywhere?)
Staff (only 2 for a long time) were struggling with the lunch time rush, one appeared to be on her first day. Eventually the (?) manager joined in and the queues began to shrink!
It is what it is: catering down to an amazing price and surprisingly high standard! Wide range of drinks and good coffee.
Would we go again? Course we would! Bargain prices, food that could be much worse at these prices, friendly service. And just look where it is!!
T. A.
Old fashioned but extremely good value for money - good food but not for a big night out. Recommended for lunch time in particular. Superb sea views. It's all a bit like going back to just after WW2! Liked it.
S. M.
Great food, great service, incredible views. Unexpectedly lovely evening.
a.
The wife and myself stayed here and it was perfect.
Easy parking free too just tell them at reseption your registration.
We had the sea view room, and it was lovely to wake up to look out the window and see the sea.
The bed was so comfortable, we sleept like logs. The curtains where black outs which was good.
The room was nice and warm as it was 5'C outside that night.
Okay the decor was old and dated but it didn't matter to us. It was clean.
As I said we slept well, a couple of times I heard doors closing from other guests but that's not the hotels fault. That will be the wine.
The breakfast was banging. Delious.
The staff where all very helpful and friendly. Thank you all.
J. P.
I was only here for a brief time, with my girlfriend. But we found a pub with a lovely interior, very friendly staff, good drinks that all had some effort put into. There's lots of seating that directly overlooks the sea/beach, great views, a fantastic place to have some summer drinks.
If you've got a dog then water bowls for them are available at the entrance to the pub. There's a smallish amount of parking to the back of the pub, I'm not sure if there's more on other side's, but I'd imagine there'd have to be.
P. H.
Clean and tidy room, excellent food , friendly staff, can highly recommend this hotel
L. K.
Nice place. Highly recommended for lunch and drinks.
P. h.
Very friendly service. Good value pub breakfasts and sea views. Lovely beach terrace in good weather. I note they offer a price reduction for camra beer members too.
C. B.
The pub is located right by the beach and tge outside seating offers an excellent view of the seafront on a sunny day. It is also convenient for getting to / from Brighton as it is on the main coast road. Food was pretty standard fair - good enough but not excellent.
T. D.
The hotel was adequate for a two night stay. The rooms are clean and spacious. Ask for a room facing the sea or the sides, as the front faces a busy road with constant heavy traffic. The public areas look worn and tatty. The staff were friendly and helpful, however at times there were too few staff in the busy bar, and were clearly rushed off their feet. It was so busy the bar ran out of glasses! The hotel clearly needs money spent on it. A taxi costs £12 each way to Brighton during the day.
T. R.
The management were very friendly, the room was great, balcony was a lovely surprise with sea view, best sleep I've had in a while, the breakfast was lovely, one thing I have to say though, and it hurts to say it, the Sunday lunch was awful, we had lamb, so much fat, vegetables were so tough, and the menu is deceiving, it doesn't tell you that you get roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, so you order from the side menu at extra cost, then find you already have it, naughty!. Would I go back there?
DEFINITELY YES.
Kind regards.
Tony Read.
H. D.
Horrible Sunday roast. Waited 45 minutes for bland veggies and no gravy (nut roast). The meat roasts a bit better but still not up to standard. Generally not worth the trouble.
Nice view to the sea...
A. M.
Nice pint of beer (Ghoul...?), treacle and just right after walking out from Brighton on the Undercliff Path. Friendly service and nice warm sarnies. Oh, and the bus stop is just outside the front of the pub. Recommended!
L. T.
Outdoors at the White Horse is a little rocky in many ways, but a great location for refreshment before heading home.
L. P.
My favorite pub on the seafront. They have tempting menu to select from with some vegetarian options. Serves delicious fish & chips! Staff is lovely. Dogs are welcome too!
c. b.
Went there last year it was a disaster no beer no food the toilets where disgusting so was a bit worried about going in there again but got told they had a new manager. It was a big change Nice new menu staff very good
It was a pleasure this time I will be returning
k. p.
Nice Hotel just a short bus ride from Brighton. Clean & comfortable, though a bit tired in parts. Food good, staff friendly & helpful. Overall a great place to stay.
A. F.
Team Member Chandler provided great service and recommended the sirloin which was really DELICIOUS.
The pub was super clean and safe feeling.
C. C.
Stayed in accessible room from may 29th to june 1st. The room was large and very clean with very comfortable bed. There was also a wet room that was easy to use with two different showers.the breakfasts were excellent with plenty to choose from.the staff were great being very friendly and helpful and as i was there i recieved a voucher for a complimentry bottle of wine as it was my birthday which went down great. Would definitely stay again.
J. L.
Very good location, rooms excellent and food very good value for money. Restaurant staff made us really feel at home. One small problem easily remedied batteries needed replacing in tv remote control.
G. P.
Absolutely fabulous hotel, excellent manager and staff. Beautiful hotel best views ever. Very comfortable beds, food excellent. Can't fault it really. Wish we were here longer.
D. G.
Beautiful venue overlooking the sea. Lively menu. Really friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Couldn't fault it. Would highly recommend.
D. L.
A great location on the top of the cliffs, and nice to sit outside during the summer. However whilst the menu is varied, the quality isn't anything special (our recent pigs in blankets looked anemic) and the beers on tap are disappointing.
M. E.
Nice enough outside, but you have to pay for parking. Food is chain pub style with defrosted meals. The pub is nothing special, but the view outside is lovely. Never stayed as a guest.
F. S.
Limited vegan options but they did have a mushroom & ale pie which was nice. The staff were polite & helpful.
M. F.
Relly nice food and lovely stuff
S. P.
Pleasant and helpful staff and lots of snacks and meals to choose from. Outlook great with undercliff walk to Brighton or peacehaven with beaches always on one side. If you like crashing waves on rough weather days this walk will please with hot drinks to dry off at this friendly hotel. Dogs allowed in certain areas
D. L.
Very comfortable helpful staff room was lovely 🙂
J. F.
The staff were pleasant and we enjoyed the outdoor seating. We enjoyed the half price meal, which was excellent.
C.
Nice place with decent prices. Breakfast was fantastic. Amazing sea view.
D. M.
Nice venue but the staff did not appear to be very well trained. People standing at the bar waiting patiently, and bar staff just serving people who had not waited at all. This made it uncomfortable to watch being a licensee myself. The staff need training on the basics. Ie keepna track who's next to be served. But the venue was great and outside was great because it was a great day weather wise.
J. S.
Friendly helpful staff. The room we had on the ground floor was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellant cooked and presented well. Great location on the sea front.
M. C.
Always good. Will come again
S. S.
Great location. We were outside sitting in the sun. There was no wind and the sea could be heard lapping at the shore. The manager was lovely and the staff helpful. The food- where do I begin? The quantities were generous, nice and hot and brought to table be a cheerful young man. The niceties end here. The beef roasts had to be returned as the meat was chewy and the stuffing tasted of...old stuffing. The manager very kindly asked if we would like to order an alternative. We opted for the Squash and sage roast. It duly arrived, again a generous helping. The accompanying veg were nicely al-dente, the Yorkshire pudding soft in the centre and crispy at the edges. All good. The Squash and sage was a major dissapointment. Beyond al-dente it floated on a mish mash of greeny stuff, overly tart and
tasteless. I should have known better not to order a vegetable main course. Having recently supped at the much lauded Stem and Glory in Cambridge and been bitterly let down, I have yet to eat a scrumptious vegetable main course in the uk. The quest continues.
R. G.
Lovely hotel with wonderful sea views. Food nicely prepared and good service. Only gripe is that they did not have unbattered fish on the menu.
P. N.
Excellent customer service but the food preparation is lacking in quality. This is such a nice spot, I hope they get things sorted.
I have dropped the 5🤩 rating down because they have dropped the standard.
L. S. (.
Stayed in the family room with our three year old - huge bed for us, nice double for her. Lovely sized bedroom and bathroom. Friendly service, great breakfast, great location. 10 mins by bus into Brighton if needed. Can't fault our stay. Will be back!
P. C.
Staff very friendly. View from our balcony.
D. S.
Stayed in room no4 very noisy aircon units or similar with loud fans running all night just out side the window. Room was hot and stuffy was told on arrival I could have a fan then when I asked apparently the hotel hadn't any fans. Hallways to the rooms had a bad smell like roting bins. My bathroom had a lot of dead woodlice on the floor witch makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the place. Also the room was very dark and struggled to do my makeup with the dressing table far from the window.
R. H.
Nice location but a little tired but dog friendly could do with a spruce up
H. S.
Stayed for four nights last week at the White Horse great venue for my husband and I. Owen and the staff were incredibly helpful and we had a room with a view of the sea with all the comfort you could wish for. We used the local buses to get to Brighton Eastbourne and Lewes and left the car in the car park for the whole of our stay. Thank you to all the staff we will be back again soon.
G. W.
We were passing a thought we'd give it a try.
Sorry but I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets or the quality of the meal. It has a great position but needs a management overhaul.
L. R.
Me and my family paid for parking there thinking that we would get it back when we bought a round of drinks because that was what we went there for in the first place. We paid for the ticket and proceeded inside. We then went up to the bar, ordered some drinks and then asked if we could get our money back for the parking. The person then said you have to buy £5.00 worth of food to get it back. It also really annoyed me how the bar staff laughed at us when we were telling them how dissapointed we were. I then just ordered a burger, it was OK. However I would not go back as the staff are a little rude and it is also just a rip off to go here!
D. C.
Stayed here for one night and couldn't fault it! Rottingdean is nice little seaside town. Nice building right on the sea front, rooms are good if a bit basic, comfy beds, friendly staff, well stocked bar. Food was ok but not amazing!
D. S.
The fish and chip shop was closed, so we got cod and chips at the White Horse instead. The portions were, as expected, smaller but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality. The view over the coast is always a winner, especially on a clear summer day.
K. A.
lovely place, staff great and food was delicious
J. S.
Lovely atmosphere lovely lad served us called Alfie I will go back there again 👍
F. S.
Friendly staff, great location right at the sea front. Drinks great, food decent. Lots of cheese, not to much flavour. (Wasn't there for the night, so no comment on the rooms)
S. P.
We had a really nice dinner here. Service was polite and the food was very tasty. My only criticism would be that a glass of wine from the bar is shockingly expensive!
C. D.
Decor rather dated, but comfortable, clean, lovely service. Food basic pub fayre, but cheap plentiful and good choice. All in all great value for money.
T. P.
Wonderful service and nice food.
D. N.
Great little place to stay although our room could have benefited from a refurb to the bathroom. Good breakfast. Try and avoid rooms directly above the bar as the sound carries.
K. P.
Had a wonderful few days at The White Horse. Staff were welcoming and attentive, breakfast selection was fantastic and the rooms clean and airy. Would definitely recommend it.
R. S.
Excellent sea views with a good menu selection. A good cider on tap. Service can be a challenge at lunchtime if more than 3 at the bar.
M. R.
Amazing room very spacious and the staff were very friendly and helpful would highly recommend
P. B.
Lovely place... but the prices are a bit high both on food portion sizes and more especially the soft drinks... one can of Pellegrino costs £3.00...
F. w.
Ordering a pain , there site did not work , so no order given
Poor idea later staff tryed to be helpful , so 3 stars for the helpful staff
A.
Perfectly nice pub, reasonable prices.
p. m.
Just recently changed hands. Often go to the white horse for food and drinks. Very nice all round place in a very good location great views out to sea, with plenty of shops and bistro pubs. Located right on the heart of historical Rottingdean.
M. S. S.
A very nice pub with rooms. Very pleasant staff and we had a good stay. Would go again. Just a short bus ride into Brighton.
j. 2.
The bar staff can serve any amount of people if it's a general or DJ night along the weekend or midweek. Fantastic music with funk and soul renditions of house at the moment. If you want a pub moment that can turn a tame evening into a dance off. This is the pub in Brighton!!
c. c.
Great Sunday roads well done
H. S.
Good location, patio with lovely view of the seafront, short walking distance to the beach, plenty of space inside and out, parking available (paid hourly, very cheap though, I paid 3 pounds or so for 4 hours of parking) good drinks, food and nice atmosphere.
P. V.
Great place, food, prices and amazing views.
E. T.
Absolutely brilliant! Food intolerances catered for. Nothing too much trouble. Fab location. Staff VERY friendly & helpful. Kids were appreciated too.

R. K. (.
Great location good service and friendly staff.
S. C.
This location caters for certain types of parties. It is right on the coast at Rottingdean a small historical village. Catering is good but expensive. However there are lovely views across the sea at the back & a bustling little village at the front of the hotel.
O. P.
Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere
A. R.
Had a gr8 nite stay here and evening meal with family was excellent. Will certainly come back again. Beautiful sea view and free car parking too. 😁
K. M.
The location is lovely, but unfortunately this gives them a license to overcharge for the food that is really only average at best. The service was inattentive (we had a starter and they seemed to forget about our main course) but the view was nice, at least.
S. H.
Car park ticket machine not working. No alternative parking refund available. One member of staff a bit unhelpful about it. Another said that the Abbott beer was not made by Greene King!
R. D.
Close to the sea nice people Good food
We enjoyed our stay 😊
A. T.
Great food and service with a smile.. Sat outside in the late March midday sun, wheelchair access is good so might try inside next time
J. W.
Nice place with a nice view. Service can be very hit or miss. Average pub food. Lovely to sit outside on a nice day though.
P. A.
Sat outside on a sunny day, took ages trying to upload the ordering app, not easy to use.

K. T.

Very quiet chan pub clean and well run but lacks atmosphere. Cant speak for the food there are no more than 10 customers after 8 and it is cavernous!
C. R.

Standard Vintage Inns menu and they do it well. Be cautious of the parking because it is out-sourced to a particularly belligerent and unpleasant company.
M. D.
Lovely location, food quick but average pub fayre
