The Golden Lion is an excellent boozer. Really good for meeting up with friends for a drink. They also serve amazing food. Fried chicken style takeaway food but all Vegetarian!! So many different items to try. Staff can make take away containers available if you order too much!!

We had a really nice vegan roast at The Golden Lion. The pork tofu was good but the mocken roast chicken was spot on. Roasties and veg were tasty however the Yorkshire pud didn't turn out so well and was quite soggy. Desert was absolutely delicious and massive portions (we had mocha praline cake and pecan pie). All together a really nice lunch and would deffo recommend giving the chicken style roast a go.

Best pub on Gloucester Road at the moment, if you like cider and a wide range of music! Good mix of age groups, from young to wannabe young again which is the category I find myself in sad as may sound 😉

Nice venue, went here the other day for the first time. It was an open mic night. Apparently they have live music every night. Staff were friendly, music was good. What's not to like?

Rather mediocre visit, I can see the Golden Lion being okay as a music venue but for daytime drinks was more disappointing. Not a great atmosphere, very average food, and was put off by the tired decor and some of the worst toilets I've seen in Bristol.

Arriving with a stinking hangover, my friend and I were looked after with two life saving Bloody Marys which were mixed to perfection and served with just the right tone and level of service (sympathetic and non judgemental) 😂 We settled at a table near the small stage in the corner, ready to have the afternoons pains lulled with some live folk and blues, Sunday style from Max Harrison. Delighted at the range of plant based food on the menu, but having already had a hearty brunch we opted for sides of Cauliflower Cheeze, roast potatoes and gravy. The Cheeze was epic, the roasties were ok, though a tad oily rather than crispy, this deducts half a point. Plus we were left with the plates at our table so long we eventually took the back to the bar. I like a place to be nice and laid back, but plates do need clearing. The music was devine, the sound guy/mc admitted to a fair hangover of his own but he held it together and we all got through together. A little extra cleaning in the loos wouldn't go amis, but maybe I was being hypersensitive to the smell that day, the wiff of the gents was fairly strong, even in the bar. Another half point off for that... But still, definitely recommend as a good one to visit for live music and a wide range of vegan options. Will be back! Hopefully with less hangover! Popped in for a vegan pie from Pie baby, just happened to be their Ale seitan event which was a roast dinner with pie and a dessert for £16. The food was absolutely lush. Cannot wait to go back here as the normal menu looks amazing too.

A quite astonishing venue located just outside HMP Saville Wing. One thing this pub does not lack is atmosphere. It offers live music almost every evening with different genres for each day. If you don't enjoy or fancy a specific genre that's being played, the staff will allow you to openly boo the musicians on stage - a very diverse set of rules that we the public will happily abide by. Now, for the main course. The Guinness served here is mouth-watering. There is one specific member of staff that cradles the pint glass as it's being poured and allows plenty of time for the pint to settle and the head to form. An expert in his field and in contention to be the Godfather of my next born. The intimate smoking area outside allows you to meet new people and laugh at the homeless. The reason why this doesn't get the full five stars is due to the amount of cretins coming up asking for money. It's okay the first few times but after a while it gets a little bit boring. Perhaps this pub could be situated in another part of Bristol, one where you're not harassed by folks smelling of urine. Overall, would recommend this to anyone and everyone. In light of Covid the bar is well managed and the staff are extremely patient and friendly when managing people coming in, even when having to turn them away because of capacity limits . Feels like a safe place to be in, and the live music is a real bonus when not many bands are performing.

Friendly, lively, live music and events are on often. Just like the "old days" of proper vibrant pubness. A mixed bag of clientele of varying ages from the area so many students but all ages fit in splendidly. A bit tight for seating as it can get busy - which is good or bad depending on your requirements.

It might not be the tidiest place on Gloucester rd but what it lacks in decor it makes up with atmosphere. Have not eaten here recently but the last time we had food here it was top notch. The staff are friendly and helpful and if you're looking for live music you can generally always find something on here.

Burger Theory being here makes this place a perfect stop for a burger on the way home from work (check wriggle for great deals too). The drinks selection here is very good and they have some great music on from time to time.

I had my first legal pint at this venue on my 18th birthday many years ago and there isn't another Pub/Venue in Bristol i would reccommend than The Golden Lion, the friendliest bar staff, it's the only pub me and my Friends go to for a drink, the food is incredible and the bargain in price easily makes it a regular treat!
