Lovely pub in a nice area.
Every pint we had we had to ask the young lady pulling it to top it up. The beer is expensive enough as it is without having 85% of a pint in the glass.
Knocked a star of my rating for short measures.

The food here is amazing, the pub itself is lovely with a nice beer garden. The only downside is the welcome and friendliness when entering. The younger staff especially could do with some training. Sometimes met with just stares like they're confused that customers have appeared. To be fair once seated and being served it was fine from that point. Just some smiles and hellos would go a long way. I dont know maybe just nerves, but hopefully take this as just some minor constructive criticism. It's a good job the chef is so good, and the amazing vegan options otherwise not sure if I'd keep going back.

Visited this little pub many times. The most recent time I was with 12 family members for Sunday lunch. The food was exceptional as always, especially the meat, it's first class and quality produce! The staff are very accommodating, polite and friendly. Our little dog also loves it when we bring him along.

Wonderful pub with amazing food. We had the Sunday roast and it was delicious from the meat to the brilliant amount of veggies. Lovely staff as well.
Bit hard to find parking when it's busy though.
E. B.
Really nice menu's to choose from, will definitely be going back. Excellent food

Great services food fantastic, the Lamb 😍, steak very nice but could of done with bit of greenery(salad). Did notice few problem on other tables with late food and wrongly cooked steaks. 3* this visit sorry guys.

Charming village pub with modern features. I've visited the Kings Arms for years while playing chess in the local league. In many ways it's a typical village pub with low ceilings and exposed wooden beams. There are two bar areas and a separate eating area with modern refurbishments. There is also a small beer garden out back and car parking around the side. It appears to be under new management which brings with it a slightly younger 'vibe'. I've never eaten at the pub but there is an acceptable selection of tap beers. Charming village hub and perfect pitstop if passing through Pentyrch.

Really great food and olde worlde charm. Not that cheap for a pub meal, but above average cuisine to make up for it.
Parking is limited though. Nice beer garden too
L. O.
Lovely pub. Lovely staff. Delicious food. Social distances measures in place. Would happily go again.
J. W.
Fantastic food, local village pub with friendly and welcoming staff.

Do exactly what they claim. Quality stylish but unpretentious food, keep a quality cellar. Give a warm welcome, but unobtrusively. Excellent service and help with wheelchair access. We recommend the King's Arms especially if you walk, cycle or otherwise visit Garth Top.

March 2017. Friendly NEW owners and lovely atmosphere. Great service. Fast delivery. Helpful staff. Dog friendly with two open fireplaces. Can't fault this beautiful classic old pub. The NEW owners have done a great job of the extensive refurbishment.
Glenlivet 12 in hand and dog at foot I look forward to falling asleep in a comfy chair next to one of these open fires.
The smell of a smoky fire wofting outside on a crisp spring day as you stand in the sun with a cool brains gold ale is to be encouraged.
Good selection of brains Ales.

Father's day lunch. Excellent food and service at this beautiful pub.

Amazing food , great friendly service , definitely recommend:-)

Great food and choice - market, pie and original menu. Enjoyed the Jemina Pitchfork, Glamorgan brewery. #localbreweries.

This pub is lovely and the food was good and the staff were very friendly us free WiFi

Went for a family Sunday lunch and it was every bit as good as I hoped. Great food. Service a touch slow, but nothing too bad and didn't spoil a lovely lunch
E. W.
Very nice and cosy pub, went there first time tonight and food was delicious, mains of duck and hake were unique and very tasty, not an average pub food definitely! Dessert of gingerbread cheesecake was super tasty too and it was the nice end of the meal. Friendly and nice staff, not over the top like in many chain restaurants, just did their job in professional manner without being pushy or trying to upswell which I hate :) We would definitely come back as there is garden and area seems pretty.
I loved fireplaces, one was off but the main pub area had it on and it gives unique warmth to the place.
S. G.
Great beer and superb atmosphere with this village pub 👌 - the food is top rate and the staff really welcoming
G. K.
Let me get this clear. Food reasonable quality. Pretentious presentstion doesn't hide the fact that portions are small and prices rather expensive. In addition the young members of staff smile and are very polite.
What I can't fathom though is the filth and the dirt. WC smelly, lounge floor covered in dirt, dust and general debris. The flowers on display vases were all dead or nearly dead. Ours had spider webs all over it.
My wife checked the bill and they charged next door table dishes on our bill.
Three stars are generous. Look at the pictures ...

Excellent food, wedding party in so rather noisy

Nice Pub staff friendly food good 😋🍲

Local pub for us with great food!! Slightly more expensive for a local but it draws lots of people from outside the village. Their garden parties and festivals are great with a lovely atmosphere. Lots of choice of different drinks. Dog friendly too! The beer garden is also a lovely setting.
A. C.
Went for a family birthday gathering on a Saturday evening. Excellent village pub atmosphere and very busy. Table layout excellent and good range of high quality pub restaurant food on menu, with separate good children's menu. Excellent starters, and most of party very complimentary of food quality and taste. Lovely friendly welsh style service. Reasonable bill at the end of an excellent meal.
A. C.
Impromtu delicious pint of Ale on a late night walk. Welcoming staff and a lovely atmosphere.
A. L.
Great village pub with the advantage of a good restaurant. Nice friendly staff, good choice of beer, rustic charming, and very homely atmosphere. Dog friendly too! Good home cooked food, it took a while to come but we'll worth the wait, good prices to on good and drinks! Definitely be returning!!!
S. B.
Nice location, dog friendly and polite staff
S. S.
Very good Sunday lunch. Vegetables well cooked and meat nice. Starters delicious. Very accommodating staff serving. Only downside was frequent passage of children going out to okay area and leaving doors open on a cool day. We will revisit during the week.

The kings arms Sunday lunch was appsloult delicious, both my husband and myself had lamb , nd to finished off the sticky pudding, blimey best I've ever tasted..the young ladies working behind the bar , nd the waitress who served us was lovely nd pleasant,, excellent service, I would say that the ladies toilet although clean needs updating , but apart from that lovely.!!
A. B.
Friendly pub and dogs welcome. Good food but poor vegetarian choice for Sunday lunch. Food could have been slightly hotter but an enjoyable meal, especially good roast beef.
J. R.
Is in the Good Pub Guide, but seems to have changed since the entry. Lunch menu is quite restricted and not very good - fish & chips, sausage & mash and the like. May be better in the evenings.
Changed ownership again. Improved but still not as good as it once was. Might improve as new owner 'beds in'.

Great high quality Sunday lunch!!
Highly recommended!!
A. W.
We have just moved to the area and tried the Kings Arms tonight. Staff were welcoming and the pub is very cosy. The menu is a little small but the three different items we ordered were really good and not a crumb left on the plate. Will come here again and perhaps try the sunday lunch.

I eat here regularly with my family and kids in the day and girlfriends in the evening. Also a great place to take visitors. Awesome food, not your usual pub fayre, but good quality, well cooked gourmet pub dishes to look forward to. Lovely setting in the village and great atmospheric place with snug and log roaring fire which is about 400 years old. Beer garden is great for kids too. Book ahead.
S. S.
Beautiful pub for so many reasons! What is not to love about this place?? Very little let me tell you... For a start it looks and feels like a real pub should, then you find out they have good ales and a dog! Add to that first class staff and utterly wonderful food, this place really is worth a visit .
K. J.
All good but the staff could lighten up.
M. P.
Always pass this pub on bike rides through Pentyrch and visited for the first time last night. Only had a drink in the bar but loved the atmosphere, open fire, snug seating and tables and a good range of ales on offer at the bar. Just the place to enjoy good company in comfortable surroundings.
R. s.
It was busy so food took a little while but the pies and rest of the food was Worth the wait
A. T.
Lovely venue, lovely food. As we had 4 children with our party wish we had been told about the free children's meals available before we ordered rather than when we paid the bill. We would have ordered the free options. Bit naughty that when the blli was around £200 without drinks 🤔
G. W.
Delicious ale and friendly staff
R. S.
Quality ales on tap, great quality pub food and a really nice beer garden. Family friendly atmosphere too.
A. O.
Lovely pub serving nice food and very good real ale!!

We Dj'd here tonight for a 60th Birthday Party. Nice pub, friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. Large free car park and Beer Garden. Nicely decorated, dancefloor, bar and food available. Room can't be blacked out and Smoke machines not allowed. Thank you, Ben and Dawn.
S. Y.
Amazing food, beautiful surroundings and staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the food.
C. W.
An excellent pub serving excellent food (I recommend the lamb and apricot pie!) and drink. There is a welcoming atmosphere in the pub and easily accommodated us along with our 3 month old. Definitely would recommend!
P. T.
Excellent food and ales at reasonable prices. The new owners have done a great job of refurbishment. It is a lovely pub with an old worldy feel and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended definitely worth a visit.
W. M.
Very good Sunday diners, between the 6 of us we had beef, lamb, and pork. All report satisfaction with their choice. Only disapointment theire were no Sunday child meal options so the 2 year old toddler missed out on a cooked meal, and paving the bill turned a bit of a farce (first bill was out by a factor of 3).
All the stuff were great and very friendly.
A. W.
A very nice country pub with a great snug bar, and another restaurant bar. Also a nice outside beer garden. We had a nice pint and bar food in the snug. It was a special place. I bet it's great in the winter with a real fire too.
d. t.
Under new management, so thought we'd give our local inn a try. They serve Otley beers and have a range of fine guest beers, which are very good. Had a very nice meal here too. A varied menu, reasonbly priced with good service too. Will be recommending this to friends.
C. M.
Really nice welsh country pub. The food looked decent and great selection of gin
K. F.
Visited today for Sunday lunch, food was excellent as always. Especially enjoyed the chocolate fondant and homemade chocolate ice cream for dessert. Overall good value at £18 for three courses.
G. J.
Nice pub, good selection of beers, carpark, food looked good and staff were great.
D. L.
Nice pub with good ales and food. Our food arrived very quickly but there didn't appear to be many others eating at the time. Will definitely be back!
A. W.
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. We will be back!
R. H.
Ate in the restaurant. Food is good. Not the biggest or best selection of ale on the bar but adequate for most people. Our waiter seemed a little inexperienced but was nice enough and he got the job done.
S. J.
Lovely atmosphere inside but the food didn't match up to the surroundings. I had a bolognese that was dry, the fish looked a lot nicer.
W. P.
Good friendly bar and staff, excellent food, would recommend.
C. P.
Friendly staff, brilliant food. They should bottle their chilli ketchup and sell it! Best steak we have had in ages. Brilliant burger too!
A. W.
Lovely food and staff who provided a great jubilee celebration 2022! Thank you xxx
M. H.
Recently visited the kings arms (26/3/14) for food, fantastic find, very welcoming pub with friendly staff, made to feel very welcome as soon as we stepped into the pub, good choice of food on offer and home cooked, a nice change. Will definitly be returning to try the rest of the menu as it all looked and sounded superb

King’s Arms Pentyrch
Such a Disappointing Meal Experience
Looking for somewhere local on a wet Bank Holiday Sunday, we chose and booked a table for two here for an early lunch.
On arrival we were greeted in the small bar and shown to a bare walled featureless room at the back of the pub which appeared to be an ante-room on the way to a marquee in the garden, rather than the main restaurant. We assumed later that the main restaurant was probably fully booked.
After settling in we were asked by two staff if we would like a drink and as we were both driving we decided to have a glass of sparkling water and a glass of wine each. The water arrived some time later but it was not refrigerated. We asked for ice but were told there was none as the ice machine had broken down after the wedding function the night before.
Sipping our tepid water, we browsed the menu (a reasonable £12.50 and £15.00). I asked what an arancini with black pudding and leek was and the waitress volunteered “something creamy”. She consulted the kitchen and returned to state it was a risotto of some kind.
One first course chosen was a terrine of smoked and poached salmon with horseradish. It was served on a plate with a wafer thin slice of toasted bread and my companion insisted I try it for a second opinion that it was tasteless, did not contain either horseradish or smoked salmon. My first course was whitebait – on the menu described rather oddly as “blanche or devilled bait”. This turned out to be 10 pieces of breaded whitebait some stuck together to resemble fish goujons, presented in a mini paper cornet and served with a pot of mayonnaise harshly seasoned with cayenne / paprika and garlic. This repeated on me all the way back to London…
The main course was also full of surprises.
Roast loin of pork with crackling failed to meet expectations. Two slices of the leanest modern-bred pork on top of two roast new potatoes, finished with two pieces of inch square hard pig skin. It would be wrong to describe this last adornment as crackling because it was impossible to bite without risking dental damage and impossible to break by hand or knife. To anticipate proper crackling and then contemplate this on the plate was another let-down. The accompanying dishes of vegetables and potatoes were hot but unimaginative – carrots, parsnip, more roast new potatoes and peas with not quite cooked leek mixed in.
My small braised lamb shank fell from the bone and was quite tasty, plated on a purée with a little gravy, but also quite salty.
We were served a glass of wine each – a rose and a red – but the red was noticeably short of the 125ml measure so was returned for topping up.
As the room filled with more customers so it became very noisy; the stone and plaster walls and stone floors were bare of any décor which just reflected the noise.
We decided against a sweet or coffee and settled the £40 – odd bill.
So there we have it. In an area fortunate to have a good selection of pubs and restaurants, the King’s Arms failed miserably to meet our reasonable expectations.
We are not fussy customers; we appreciate a satisfying meal experience but must make some observations when things go awry.
There seemed to be no-one in charge of running the room and directing staff. The room itself was soulless, cold and “tatty”. There was a distinct lack of menu knowledge or practical restaurant skills and the food did not live up to its description on the menu.
We may have chosen an off day but it is unlikely we will risk another Kings Arms Pentyrch experience.

Lovely pub. Menu a bit ordinary I thought tbh. Not much variety. Perfectly content with only half a doz choices, but would be great to see them all quite different in character.
m. k.
Nice bar and lovely pie and chips
P. R.
A lovely, country pub with friendly locals who gave us a warm welcome. We only came in for 1 drink but could have stayed all night.
M. C.
Nice staff and good food. Waited 25 mins for first drink to arrive so if eating get your own from bar before sitting down
B. L.
Lovely food friendly staff but little things let the place down no lemon or brown bread with the whitebait sticky wine menu due to the ketchup bt if they can sort those things out I would highly recommend,
L. A.
Absoloutely beautiful place, in a quiet area with lovely people. Excellent food and service with a nice cosy seating area, would definitely recommend.
