Stayed one night. Excellent room, spacious and very very clean.
Staff were very friendly and competent
The evening meal in the bar was first class
Wife had the best burger ever
The penderyn and chicken liver pate was delicious
Overall a very pleasant experience
Highly recommended.

First time here, it's a lovely friendly place to go, the staff were really nice...the food was really tasty!! My daughter and I really enjoyed it, we had a dessert...I had a brownie...never had a brownie so big, it was really nice...

Met up with friends for a meal at the Molesters.
We have done so for a few years mostly mid week.
The food is always very good.
My partner was raving over the fish and chips.
The staff are polite and friendly.
All very laid back. Food prompt. Service good.

A truly magnificent building.
It is light inside with beautiful stained glass windows and very modern sculpture which really adds to the experience.
The only thing I would request would be some labels alongside the tombs so the different people could be more easily recognised.

Lovely clean room, comfortable bed and the shower was wonderful.
The restaurant however was not so wonderful.
Initially, the staff weren't great. Not very attentive or helpful.
We had arranged for a couple of friends to meet us there for a meal on the first night. We were told, as we were ordering that they had no steak, or lamb. We weren't informed of this before we ordered and one of our guests only eats steak. They weren't apologetic or tried to offer us any alternatives. We decided to eat elsewhere.
We had breakfast there the 2 mornings and ate at the restaurant 1 evening. The food was not great at all. Very basic and not very well cooked or presented. Most of the food seemed to be microwaved pretty well though. I received my meal, but they had forgotten to order my husbands meal, so we then had to wait a further 10 minutes for his meal to arrive at the table.
The cleanliness of the restaurant was questionable too. The children's high chairs were left with food debris and the carpet needed cleaning. The toilets weren't clean either.
1 staff member 'Emily' was fabulous though. Very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I do believe she was the best thing about the restaurant.
Despite this, we would stay here again, but we wouldn't use the restaurant or bar here.

One miserable mumbling barman, no smile, please or thank you. Other guy seems to try his best but isn’t well trained. Gingery chap polite and helpful. Manager pleasant. Lots of menu items not available but you’re not told when ordering so I struggle to understand why there is an electronic ordering system. After ordering we’re told it’s not possible to have a sauce with no bacon. Sauces preordered and microwaved? Later still we’re told one of the mains is not available and offered beef or chicken burger as an alternative to the veggie burger ordered. Unlikely to be acceptable to most people!! 4 starters arrive and all have accompanying bread as a key element but no butter available. This is a must to really enjoy and we should have been told before ordering. Paying in excess of £25 for the starters, I expected more. The veggie sausage main although not what I initially wanted was tasty, hot and enjoyed. The manager gave us a bottle of wine which was appreciated but the least he needed to do really, considering all the issues. Although overall we had a good evening, I can’t say I’d rush back because I’m not sure the place is reliable enough in terms of service and food quality/availability to risk taking friends and family.

We arrived at 12 midday before it got busy, and the service was extremely quick. I had requested space for a pram which was accommodated, and a high chair was also provided, thank you for this. Brogan served us and she was lovely, she made time to ‘chat’ to my baby which was really sweet. Will definitely return.

Lovely Hotel, Pub, Restaurant and and most of all the Staff!
I stayed here on business for a month and had the best of times. I’ve broken down and given a brief description of each below.
Hotel- I stayed in various rooms throughout my stay and couldn’t fault any of them. Very modern, clean, spacious, homely with everything you’d expect.
Pub- The pub itself is set on two levels, but either side is full of character, charm and has a great friendly atmosphere.
Restaurant- Throughout my stay I was fortunate to have tried most of the evening menu and was not once disappointed. The food was always served with a smile, full of taste, flavour and presentation and my compliments go to the team involved. That’s not forgetting the breakfast (It’s faultless).
Staff- I was always greeted on arrival with a friendly, helpful and organised Becca who had everything ready.
Ben, Becca and the whole team are an absolute credit to the whole establishment and without these charismatic, lovely people the place wouldn’t be what it was.
I will be returning to Cardiff in the future and will look forward to seeing the Malsters Arms and team once again.

Stayed at the Malsters last night and really enjoyed it. Rooms very comfortable and clean. The staff were excellent and very friendly. Becca especially was fantastic, she went above and beyond to help. Will definitely stay again.

We are so lucky to have this fantastic, welcoming, community pub in the heart Whitchurch village. It’s like a home from home for many of us and has become an integral part of lives. Landlord Colin and the whole team are brilliant hosts and we are very lucky to have them.

It was OK. But there's been a definite change since the big brewery chain took over and it just isn't the same quality. The Maltsters used to be a real gem of a place, with a short but high-quality menu that changed daily and included some specials. It used to have a spotless interior - it gave a real sense of homely class. As I said, it's still OK, but it's turned into more or less like every other chain pub around Cardiff, with slightly sticky tables, a fausty smell permeating the bar and toilets, everything just ever so slightly grubby and commercial. The staff were fine. But we weren't told little standard things such as we had to order at the bar and weren't brought any menus - we had to walk to the other side of the building for them, and some were gnarled and grubby. Food is cheap, there's a huge choice and the portions decent, but I'd rather pay a few quid extra for higher quality and better ambience. Bring back the old Maltsters!

I stayed at Maltsters for a long weekend in Cardiff (June). I would stay again but it needs some alterations. I booked and paid for a Deluxe room, however once we arrived and checking room photos online, it was clear we had been put in a standard room. I was refunded the difference upon leaving so am appreciative, however if I had not queried it, I would have been out of pocket. The standard room was fine. Clean. However the small, single window in the room only opened 2 inches due to a safety lock, which combined with a warm (not hot) weekend (23c) and the room seemingly neighbouring some hotel/pub machinery (kitchen?) meant the room was stiflingly hot. It may be 2 of the worst night’s sleeps, whilst away, that I have ever had. The fan in the room was not only covered with a thick layer of dust but insanely loud. We turned this back off swiftly, despite the ridiculous heat, which should give some indication as to the noise level.
The area itself is great, coffee shops, restaurants, cathedral etc and either a short bus/taxi, or 35 min walk to cardiff centre. Free parking at the hotel, friendly staff, cleanliness (bar the room’s fan) and solid decor were all positives. I would stay again at the Maltsters, however not if I was travelling between april-sept (heat) and absolutely clarify upon arrival your room booking type. You shouldnt have to do this but it seems necessary here
E. W.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was tasty and plenty of choices on the menu. The pub was clean and plenty of choice with seating.
B. R.
Great service, very accommodating and friendly. "Emily has been great and was willing to stay behind in order to please others after hours" can't fault the food really well done and tasty" deffo A star customer service.. deffo come again!
E. P.
A fantastic meal, staff are great and lovely atmosphere!!! The covid policy they have in place makes you feel safe and secure, you don't have to worry they enforced the social distancing which is great.
I was recommended the bread if heaven, it dies disappoint 😋😋
C. C.
Really impressed. A good friendly welcome, a table booked for dinner and shown to my room. Nice spacious room, good shower, in the bar, the Brains SA was bang on, the food superb, friendly service. Then a good restful sleep and a very nice Full Welsh breakfast. Only 2 moans, following the sat nav, it's easy to miss the carpark and the bottles water in the room was only sparkling, but hey, they didn't know I don't like sparkling, so not the end of the world. Would definitely recommend and hopefully will go again.
L. J.
Amazing food. Although brains pub they do their food with their own little touches and it's the best by far
M. M.
Had lunch there. Good choice on menu. Tasty food. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff
L. T.
Came here at 12 for some lunch at this point there was a few customers around although a few reserved tables which says this place can be rather busy. I liked the relaxing atmosphere inside with a nice log fire which at this point was not lit although I wouldn’t have said it was cold enough. Ordered off the lunch time menu which is a good price. Two courses for a fixed price which is good value although the ones we wanted were not part of the deal. I felt the value of money paid didn’t reflect the food offered and that’s of course my opinion but if I had of ordered qualifying choices in the deal maybe I would feel different. It is a nice comfortable relaxed pub maybe next visit I would feel different. The tables and chairs need updating and the mould from the window needs cleaning but aside from that it was pleasant enough.
M. H.
Had meal at the Maltsters Llandaff, gotta say food was excellent, beer great, service second to none, was very impressed by Emily who tended to our every need all evening, can highly recommend this place, deffo 10/10, will return very soon
J. G.
Wonderful place. Staff were very helpful. Think a bit short staffed on the night we were there ( Friday ) but keep up the good work well done girl's
K. K.
Large tastefully decorated rooms. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff who went out of their way to look after bus. Enjoyed the breakfast which was hot ,tasty and cooked well. The breakfast chef wanted to do his best to please the customer. Thank you .
J. M.
Very friendly pub. Food served all day every day and decent value for money. Serves Aspallscider on draught. Plenty of comfortable outdoor seating too.
L. D. T.
Went there and had the Christmas menu. The food came out hot and tasted great. The staff are lovely and very friendly. Had a great time.
J. S.
Great staff nice rooms and good pricing.
Massive thank you to Sam, Jacqueline and Isabelle who very professionally dealt with my paraletic member of staff xx
P. M.
We had a table of 8 ladies booked for a Christmas lunch, we had a friendly welcome with drinks on the table within a few minutes, the lunch was 3 course they were all piping hot ,plenty of food on the plate with lots of vegetables brought separate along with the gravy ,only one problem we had was 6 of the ladies had the Christmas crumble ,there was too much spice of some kind in it so it could not be eaten, would not put us off going back again .
G. D.
Only called in for a drink and sat in the beer garden but staff were friendly and Sunday lunch smelt amazing! Would like to return to try the food.
M. O.
Had a nice lunch of Watermelon & feta salad, Asparagus & edamame bean risotto and Rhubarb, ginger & Apple crumble.
Absolutely delicious and great value for the ££s.
Good job!
PS. Server who attended to us was very nice and helpful.
A. S.
From the moment we walked through the door and were greeted by a very friendly Zoe who issued us with our car pass for the duration of our stay and showed us to our spacious double room did we realise what a little gem we'd found! The rooms are tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and the beds are oh so comfortable! Every day we were greeted by Hattie asking if we required housekeeping or any replenishments of toiletries, tea, coffee, milk, sugar or coffee pods for a very easy to operate coffee machine. We chose to dine first night in the restaurant and had such a beautifully hot cooked meal (that deserves a review in its own right) that we dined here every night. Make sure you book your table as this is a very popular restaurant. The menu choices and value for money made it for us. Carl, Simon, and the rest of the team were friendly and attentive to our every need ensuring that table service was second to none. After a wonderful night's sleep even being on a roadside the noise dies off after midnight and is hardly heard if you close the windows. Down for breakfast we were met by Adele and other members of a brilliant team each morning. Again the breakfast menu caters for all but I'd recommend 'The Works' to set you up for the day. We only stayed 4 nights and are already looking to return.
G. S.
Nice pub restaurant with good selection of food. Staff are friendly and efficient. Dog friendly. I ordered Woodland mushroom & black truffle papperdelle. It was flavorful and creamy.
m.
Stayed 2 nights, ate in their restaurant both nights & both mornings had breakfast. The staff were EXCELLENT, giving great service with a smile from every team member, despite being busy and short staffed (like many hospitality venues at the moment). The business is a credit to the manageress who never seemed to be off duty during our entire stay.
M. S.
Food was OK. Had run out of beer and service very slow. Overall not a particularly good experience eating wise. Accommodation was very comfortable though.
P. C.
Food ok as usual, but no specials and it's about time the menu was refreshed. It was also very cold in the downstairs seating area.
Revisited Feb 2022 sat upstairs, nice Gammon and eggs this time.
R. R.
Really cozy rooms and very warm environment. Staff is really friendly . Food is amazing
J. “. R.
Had a lovely warm welcome, room was lovely and clean with a nice layout with the bath in the room,
Would recommend not arriving at same time the school next door kicks out or arrives as makes it a pain to get into car park as its a narrow steap hill, however parking is secure,
Shower was lovely as well as the bath only consern is shower head mounting was breaking away but don't affect the shower, nice and simple controls
Tv was a nice if there was a remote but wasn't a necessity
I would definitely stay again
W. S.
Clean comfy room and beds. Food excellent.lovely location
L. W.
Lovely Sunday roast. Should try the side dish of cauliflower and leek. (Yummy). Yorkshire pudding overdone. Nice atmosphere.
A. P.
One of the best pubs in the area. Hotel is also pretty good. Easy to park nearby
J. R.
Fab Christmas dinner and had a lovely stay over night and great breakfast the next morning
Chef was fab

A pub very much like usyk, dunno how its up there but it is punching at heavyweight levels. The bread of heaven sharer may need a little more balsamic, but it is cruising along as a top top food.
The burgers are like brentford. Shouldn't be top league but they're there to stay.
The man whom summoned the almighty sauces went and managed to knock up a garlic mayo too! Absolute top lad!
D. M.
Kids friendly pub with good food and drinks
J. M.
Staff working very hard and were pleasant and welcoming.
Food was very nice especially the cockles starter
C. B.
Had food last Sunday was lovely! Amazing service by zoe! The chefs (joab and Lewis i believe) did amazing with the food! Really enjoyed the tikka! The mike special was great too 😁
P. G.
Staff are always friendly and professional. These are trying times for the hospitality sector but the Maltsters staff make it as ‘normal’ as possible
S. R.
Clean, comfortable, polite staff, mid range prices.
Kitchen was partially out of action on this visit, but previously OK.
A regular destination.
J. B.
Lovely pub serving good food.We visited there recently(Sunday 8/8/21) with my son and his two daughters. One has a nut allergy. We informed the staff and the manager came out to speak to my son and his wife to reassure them that everything was done to ensure that there was no possibility of nut contamination.Considerate and caring staff.
R. E.
Nice enough food, friendly service and allows dogs. Curry was straight out of a microwave though.
P. C.
We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay. Comfortable and clean rooms with good housekeeping. Good beer selection, comprehensive menu and good food. Great Welsh breakfast included with room. Busy dining room so the service might get compromised a little. Personnel were friendly and helpful. Props to "Princess" Soraya, our favourite server😁.
D. C.
Great, funny, helpful staff. They do a really good quiz and as for the food OMG
s.
Wrote my first review about a year ago citing "Good quality food, a bit nicer than the usual pub fayre. Good Sunday lunch and my daughter enjoys vegetarian Sunday lunch too. Lively, good atmosphere, pleasant but overworked staff".
But just wanted to add that the staffing and service has been improved, the food is still great and, by the way, it is dog friendly.
Lately tho, it seems the cooking takes iver the whole bar as well as the restaurant. They need to improve their ventilation...
C. R.
Very friendly and professional, food good what's not to like would definitely recommend. Booked again for 6 people in a couple of weeks
I. B.
Found this place by chance, and so glad I did. Food was outstanding, (down on business and went on a week night and they were doing 2 courses for £14.99) everything was cooked beautifully.
Decor and ambience first class, staff were very good our waitress was Sabrina she was brilliant , from service to taking time out to give us the lowdown on the area..
M. A.
Good food. Lovely venue and friendly staff. I had the soup of the day and the beer battered fish with chips, it was delishious. We meet for a family birthday meal. The staff were great and had no issues taking photos for us.
D. M.
Lovely place to sit outside with the dog. Good price and good section of drinks. You do have to pay for the car park but if you are using the pub then you can use the money you paid for the parking off a drink. Friendly and helpful staff. During the summer months can be very busy especially weekdays after 5pm
J. T.
Better-than-expected pub food with a surprisingly expansive menu and a lot of vegetarian options. Visited on a busy Saturday night so service was a little rushed and we weren't seated at the most ideal table (four places for five people).
A. L.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Nice to see oysters on the menu. Such a nice treat. Great atmosphere. Lovely staff. Bit of a wait for mains because it was so busy but worth the wait. Would highly recommend.
m. o.
Amazing food at good prices, great staff very friendly and professional. Would recommend to anyone.
R. J.
Delicious lunch, had the 2 breaded chicken breast with sweet potato fries and my friend had steak and chips with peppercorn sauce with a side of crunchy battered onion rings. Great service too with a lovely and relaxed ambience in the pub.
S. M.
Very nice and quiet public house the food was pretty good. Also has a small b & b.
C. S.
Had Christmas dinner here and it was superb. Staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough for us and went above and beyond what was asked. Would love to do it again next year. Even on a normal day the food is excellent
A. F.
Lovely place, staff great and food was delicious. Drops a star as it did take a long time for the food to come and it wasn't overly busy. But would recommend.
E. R.
Great pub for families, especially large groups, with a good kids menu. The staff were all friendly and Steve who looked after our table was really helpful. Recommend booking ahead as it gets very busy.
M. H.
Food is 9/10 for quality. Menu 5/10 for a veggie and 9/10 for the carnivores. Staff are 9/10. But AVOID between 4 and 6pm as it becomes a creche for a few hours, full of kids and mums. Outside of that it's good.
T. H.
Our table was booked inside, for 7 of us, but as the weather was so nice we asked if we could be seated outside instead. The staff were very helpful and assisted by 're arranged some of the tables for us. The service was great and the food very good.
d. c.
Food was excellent and staff were friendly and very helpful

Stayed here for a long weekend, while my choir was singing the services in Llandaff Cathedral. It was very convenient, the Cathedral spire being visible from the restaurant area.
We enjoyed a ground floor room, and the restaurant staff were very friendly. Free tickets for parking are available for residents and customers.
The room contained a very large bed, chest of drawers, two bedside cabinets and two easy chairs. The en-suite bathroom was reached through two narrow doors, containing translucent glass, with a small gap between the doors, even when closed.
The cleaning of both aspects of the room was pretty ineffective.
Other less expensive options are available nearer the main Cardiff area, but this was the best option for proximity to the Cathedral, and we would probably stay here again if the necessity arose.
L. R.
Stayed here Friday and Saturday night- great pub and judging by how busy it was - seems very popular. Greeted at check in by a lovely lady, very helpful and showed us to our room. The rooms are pretty decent- double room, decent bathroom (although could be cleaned better around the shower- the grout was starting to stain black). Tea and coffee making facilities and nice complimentary bottled water was a nice touch. Two single beds fixed together is never the most comfortable but we slept ok - linen and towels crisp and clean. A few cobwebs hanging from the ceiling above the curtains and some dust on the wall that could be been cleaned. Hopefully just a one-off miss by the cleaner. The food in the restaurant was ok but fairly basic to be honest. Breakfast too was ok but basic. We would go back however and hopefully the chef will be a bit more adventurous and the cleaner finds her duster. Friendly staff all in all which is always a plus.
J. P.
Good for Sunday lunch. Have been here many times, though quality seemed to dip in the summer or Sunday roast last week was back on par and very enjoyable. Beer selection is a bit poor though.
H. J.
Very nice. Comfy & welcoming inside. Staff are friendly. Food is good in general, but slow service (didn't have time for pudding) & the sirloin steak was tough.
R. K.
Very nice accommodations and pleasant staff. Enjoyed the full English breakfast each morning. Lots of fun in the pub at night playing cards and getting introduced to Penderyn Whisky!
R. “. P.
Welcoming friendly staff (Harry a star) , good beer and good food. Great to just chill out or meet up with friends. Bus stop right outside for those more lively evenings. Car park at rear for the quieter ones! Enjoy.
C. W.
Ok for a group chain pub restaurant. Can be very hit and miss. Not exactly cheap for the sort of food served either. Would not be my first choice of venue for a meal out. Still room for improvement with food and service.
J. O.
Nice feel to the pub and not bad for light lunches and a coffee. The advantage of it being a Brains pub see different beers make an appearance on the pumps from time to time and seem to be doing more themed stuff with gin now.
P. R.
Very good food, a nice place 👌
A. C.
I have stayed at this pub and found the accommodation very comfortable, clean and it felt like a real treat as the decor was very luxurious.
The food is always delicious and the staff are very welcoming, would thoughly recommend. The Maltsters has a great atmosphere.
M. C.
My dog was welcome in the bar and the staff were friendly. Food was nice. Everything was clean. Overall, a decent place if you want some pub grub
R. M.
We walked into the pub, was asked to find a sear, very polite waitress took our order. Drinks brought, so far A1 service, food coming shortly. Food was A1 too.
l. o.
Best Sunday lunch ever and desserts heavenly especially deconstructed Black Forest gateau . Friendly staff service slightly on the slow side though. Don't cope very well with large family gatherings, meals not brought out together.
M. B.
Had a meal tonight husbands steak cold and tough told waitress husband then had second meal which was excellent! Gave money off meal really happy with service! They were very apologetic and sorted out our problem immediately very friendly staff highly recomended!
T. P.
This is the best place for eating fresh and tasty food. They just changed the menu and they added a lot of vegetarian food too which is very welcome. Very good prices accessible parking and large space to sitting. Lovely atmosphere always and fast service. When ever we want to be sure that we are eating something fresh an fast we getting here! A big thanks for service! Number 10 and 5* for a clean place!
M. S.
Good food. Recommended.
P. C.
Lovely bar food, spot on, quick, and friendly staff too 👍
M. P.
Excellent food, lovely old building tastefully modernised. The young lady waiting on our table couldn't have been more friendly or efficient. Not especially cheap but worth a bit extra.
J. P.
Lovely dog friendly pub with pretty good food
M. B.
The food and the service was very good indeed
N. R.
Placed just off the main road, the Maltsters is a great place for a coffee, a meeting or a drink with friends, with a number of great areas to suit a number of occasions.
The food has always been great on every visit, with a great, if small, selection of vegetarian meals on offer at a reasonable price, particularly in comparison to some of the pricier cafes and coffee shops along the High Street.
With great service and a layout that suits groups of all sizes, the Maltsters might offer what you'd expect from a place of its type, but it does it all particularly well.
M. L.
Had Sunday lunch today for my mum's 87th birthday. Staff very pleasant. I'm veggie,so had Glamorgan 'crumble'. It turned out to be a differently shaped Glamorgan sausage - no crumble in sight! Also, the veggies were overcooked for my liking. The rest of the party enjoyed the roast sharing platters. I had the crumble for dessert, which was ok. But why oh why does it have to be served up in a small frying pan?? I shared the bread and oil for starters with my partner. We agreed that both the oil and vinegar were of poor quality and the bread too bitty and hard. Normally I would say something at the time, but because it was a special occasion, I didn't want to make a fuss. I've had lunch here before and really enjoyed it. I'll go again, but not for Sunday lunch.
A. G.
Went for lunch last week with a friend, I have been before and thought the food was delicious,
We had a two, course meal, A main and a sweet which was very reasonable priced and was as before
Delicious.
My friend has booked for Sunday lunch.
Yes would reccomend you try.
J. H.
I had a pastrami roll which was average at best. Not enough filling. 3 colleagues had food which in fairness looked better than mine. Nice feel to pub though.
M. D.
Nice Ambience.Very good table service and excellent pub cuisine.
C. S.
Lovely pub with good food. A bit expensive for pub food but the standard is usually great. Nice place to go for morning coffee with friends as it's open quite early too.
J. L.
This place looks quite modest but inside you have modern standard hotel rooms, excellent beer selection and the food was divine. I did not expect this at all!
I cannot think anything negative about the place so highly recommended!
K. B.
Stayed for 2 nights, the room, food and welcome were amazing
L. M.
Had a lovely bottle of wine. The staff were nice and the food tasted good. My noodles could have done with a bit more flavour though
D. P. J.
Great food and good atmosphere- can get very busy. Good choices and care for this with restricted diets. Fabulous gluten free chips!

Review of Maltsters 22/07/2012:
Went there for Sunday Lunch last week. Sadly not a good experience.
First off, it was cash only (OK these things happen) and it just went downhill from there...
It took ages for food to arrive and when it did it was shocking.
My wife - Beef Sunday Lunch £10.95. - A singled slice of overdone meat, 3 tiny, undercooked roasties, and a 1/4 of a parsnip that was apparently roasted... overcooked carrots and broccoli. No other veg.
Me - Shredded Moroccan lamb salad with beetroot, feta & mint £7.95 + parmesan chips £1.95 - Seeing shredded I assumed this would be warm meat. Instead I got sliced pieces of cold lamb, about 2 of which had any seasoning on. I've never seen shredded lamb served cold...? Meal was small IMO as a main and chips undercooked.
There was no kids menu, so we asked what they could have - ham + chips or sausage + chips (way to go healthy!) - no prices mentioned.
Child 1 - Ham + chips £5 - undercooked chips, the ham was good, but was unique amongst all the food in that respect
Child 2 - Sausage and chips £5 - undercooked chips and a single spiced pork dragon sausage. For a 3 year old.
Every meal was over-priced for what we got.
We made clear our disappointment at the end and fair play to the bar-girl she ran through each of the points with us; the chips were nigh on black/dirty, but still udnercooked? they're cooked in rapeseed oil; why only 2 veg? it was late in the day; the lamb was cold? that's how it's 'meant' to be... etc. She then offered free coffees and the option to speak to the manager. We declined and just made it clear we wouldn't be back.
I'm mostly disappointed as the quality has really fallen off the edge of a cliff in the last 6 months... Last time we went it was a good experience, even though I don't remember what we had.
Sadly, only 0.5 out of 5 (for the bar-girl's politeness and the excellent Colonel Williams IPA). We won't be going back, sorry.

Stayed here for 1 night, stayed in room 1 it was a gorgeous large bedroom with beautiful ensuite!
The food was delicious and the staff were very polite and lovely! Would definitely stay here again!

Met and old friend here for a pint, first time in here for years. It is a very nice clean and friendly pub, and we had a nice evening.

Very busy, but I can tell why
The food was excellent and good value. Service was fast and lovely, so I'd definitely recommend

Maltsters was a great place to go for a Saturday lunch - we brought the dog and were treated to very good food at a reasonable price, in a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come again
K. T.
Sunday lunch with the family.fantastic roasts and great Yorkshire. Lamb tagine very tender with very tasty sauce and coconut couscous.lovely staff and good atmosphere.defiantly going back
M. M.
The place was nice, the food was delicious, and I would really like to praise the staff for being so kind. Also, I noticed a poster saying that they are attempting to get the cashpoints on Llandaff highstreet back. It will be verry helpful if they are successfull because that's where many people go to get their money especially elderly people who live in the flats at the bottom of the street as it is so close. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were flies everywhere and they kept going onto the food. Unfortunately, that made a big difference to the experience of being there.

Excellent hotel. Close to city center and could have walked in if had the time. Food excellent and very friendly service. Room clean and tidy and a wonderful bathroom

Nice local pub. Child friendly, even early evening over the weekend. Food is average, but still a pleasant evening to get out enjoy with the family

First time I've stayed in a Brains establishment and I must say I was very very impressed with this place excellent location just of the M4 fast professional check in contemporary facility packed room and a great restaurant/bar with a relaxing atmosphere very friendly staff..... so why only 4*unfortunately on the morning of my stay the breakfast chef didn't turn up I did still receive an very tasty breakfast with lovely ingredients and lots of options the delay really set my working day back I would still highly recommend maltsters very good value for money and had the delay not happened 5*+
C. “. L. J.
The Malsters has changed over the years from being a sports pub with projector screen and pool table to no in its form as a restaurant type of pub. The new look is modern and clean with excellent facilities, plus Malsters gives a good reception to those of all ages with foods being served throughout the day, with new food menu's everyday and even an outdoor seating area it is appealing to visit.
L. E.
High quality food, people, place. Wouldn't go all the time as it is quite pricey. Best food I've had in a while though.

Great food and drinks. Upmarket pub with a good crowd. Great staff who are well trained and friendly. Pricey but worth it over a Weatherspoons

At 10 minutes by car from Cardiff, The Maltesters offers large and neat rooms with the possibility of having dinner in the annexed pub. We did not eat there but prices and food seemed to be good.
