Food was so fresh and service was quick! Absolutely love visiting Tenkaichi, it’s the best sushi bar in Cardiff! If you love sushi they have a huge variety and they’re happy to cater to additional requests where possible. All orders made fresh to order. The Sashimi is especially delicious!

Amazing food, fresh fish, nice chicken and beef meals too. You can order all the traditionals meals and for sushi it's really good quality. Just make sure to ore book if you go as couple and want a table just for only 2 people! Or if you like sit with other people that's fine. Really fast service and customer service it's really nice too. Really worth it and price is affordable for everyone!

Dear Mr Tenkaichi and Lloyd, Our meal tonight was incredible. My girlfriend and I were blown away by the tastes and quality of the food. The staff were super nice and attentive, and the service was top class. I was especially amazed with the chicken gyoza, which immediately took me back to my time in Osaka, and even unlocked some memories. The Tenkaichi Maki was truly incredible too. Food was absolutely delicious, couldn't fault it one bit. The way of ordering was fantastic, and extremely covid friendly. Sushi, sashimi and nigiri were so well made and tasted beautiful. Really enjoyed my meal here. Sushi in England is usually overpriced for the quality you get. Got vegetable gyoza, chilli edamame, avocado and cucumber California roll and a vegetarian (turned vegan) maki platter. All really exceeded expectations and (a sushi bar first) left not feeling ripped off! Would come back.

I have been there few times. No complains with the bento boxes at all, they are lovely and have different options. But make sure not to order the curry dishes: Not enough sauce for the whole dish, and if you request more sauce they want to charge £2 for sauce they should've give you in the first instance!! As you can see in the pic, that is the rice I've been unable to eat (there would be more but I made the effort to eat the buttered tofu that came with my dish).

Absolutely amazing place! I've been to this place at least 5 times and from all the Japanese places I have been to, this place is my favourite! The staff here are so friendly, both in person and over the phone. Service is always quick, great ambience in the restaurant and the food is always delicious and in hearty portions. They also have student discount and a loyalty card.

Aside from the skepticism I still hold for this place winning an award for most authentic and best sushi/ sashimi in Cardiff.... The food is very much ok. But I mean it in the nicest way - as in its not the best food by any means, but its still enjoyable and I would come back. The quality of the fish is ok, the salmon marginally fresher and the other (raw seafood) ingredients taste suspiciously like they've been at some point frozen. Then again I wouldn't expect it necessarily to always be super fresh, and they didn't taste bad. The rice was suspiciously like a cheaper medium grain 'sushi grade' rice, and didn't taste quite right - like the rice had sat around a little while. The sushi seasoning in the rice seemed like a nice balance though. All the small things I noticed will probably not bother most people, but if they tout and are awarded as being the most authentic I will stand by my skepticism for these kinds of awards, and worry that it suggests that the situation is far worse elsewhere nearby.... Still, putting aside my snobbery, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were excellent, and the food really was OK but OK enough to come back once in a while. Still waiting to find a place that does it right as opposed to being 'authentic'. Edit: While I take onboard the owners response to my nitpicking and am very aware of the importance of health and safety, to a suspicious tongue like mine, the taste of frozen fish still detracts from the efforts. Edit 2: As promised I did go back and my nitpicking still stands. That being said, for a place in Wales and around Cardiff, I haven't found a better place yet. I'll up my score to 4 for now while I go on a sushi adventure.

Place was clean, service was good, and food came out quickly. Very average bowl of ramen. Broth wasn't 'omg amazing' level. Was more of a 'meh'. The ramen itself was ok. They give you a LOT of char sui, too much char sui to ramen and broth ratio imo. The char sui isn't great either, pretty bland and verrry fatty, the meaty parts were a bit tough as well and not tender. No marinated egg either. The ramen itself gets a 2/5. The sushi wasn't anything to write home about, not much better than grocery store sushi. Also, I understand the vibe they're going for of a Japanese izakaya, where different groups of people sit at the same tables, but the pandemic isn't over. We literally sat next to strangers at the same table less than 2 feet away from us. I know restaurants do have bad nights in terms of food quality, maybe this was just one of them.

This is the best ramen I've had in my life! I've been traveling around the country and Europe ,for work,and never have I found anything, as close to that taste! As a student of Japanese, immersing myself in Japanese culture is very important, and that includes through food. The food at Tenkaichi was just like the food I had in Osaka, the food capital of Japan. The noodles were soft but bouncy, the takoyaki were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the chicken katsu was very tender. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

We have been eating at Tenkaichi for a very, very long time 10+ years in fact. The food and service have always been superb hence our commitment to the restaurant. Just in from our first visit since before lockdown and the food and service were as ever superb, but the cost of our usual meal, including drinks, for my wife, my daughter and I has increased from around £40 to £60. I understand that the restaurant needs to recooperate following its losses during lockdown, but a 50% increase on the bill has pretty much locked us out of returning to regular dining at Tenkaichi. This is obviously disappointing as we love it so much.

Nice restaurant with tasty food though quite expensive. A side is about the same price as an average main in other restaurants, while a main is about double the price. Bentos and vegetable tempuras were nice though the prawn ones dissapointed us. Though delicious for about 7 quid you only get 3 prawns and for some reason a vegetable in the so called prawn tempura side?? Same goes for the takoyaki, tastes great but you only get 4 for such a high price. Pictures on Google maps also don't align with the menu in-store or online.

I've been to Tenkaichi more than half a dozen times now and I simply cannot recommend it enough! The quality of the food is absolutely phenomenal - hands down the best Sushi restaurant in Cardiff, if not the best in Wales! The menu is incredibly diverse and there's always something interesting to try. It's not the cheapest, true, but good food does not come cheap. If you're in the mood for an authentic Japanese culinary experience, then Tenkaichi is a must visit! P.S Make sure to try the Tempura Maki, you will not be disappointed!

The best place in Cardiff for sushi and Japanese food. Friendly staff, great environment. We've been going there for 10 years. Just be aware that it's a small kitchen and your food will not come out at once if there's more than 2 of you eating. The only problem here is that some people will have finished their food before others even receive theirs.

Cute little place to eat. However, service isn't great. They never know if they can seat you straight away or not if you don't have a booking and you will sometimes get several waitresses greet you and ask if you have a booking before going to check the seating arrangements.. Hence another waitress will come and do the same whilst you are standing at the entrance waiting to possibly be seated 😂 definitely get a booking as it is a very busy, small restaurant. The food was OK. I have to say its a smaller, less tasty wagamamas. Presentation is excellent however. And the service provided is a little all over the place.

My dish was delicious but my wife’s lacked any flavour and looked and tasted like boiled chicken and rice. We ordered a curry sauce to try and pep it up but the order for it was completely forgotten meaning my wife didn’t finish her meal. They can clearly cook lovely food, and my Katsu donburi was wonderful, but overall ours was a lacklustre experience on this occasion.

My recent comments are merely a comment on my most recent visit post lockdown. It would also be helpful to let people know at time of booking that visits are currently only an hour.

However, vegetable tempura was very poor and bland and the sushi (rainbow maki) was below par, as the fish was not good quality as some were extremely fishy, much more so than usual and had a rubber like texture, never desired for raw fish . This place is certainly better than all others I've tried, but that statement has little value considering the appalling overall quality of sushi in Cardiff. Still, pretty decent sushi for a reasonable price and worth a visit. ("In town" is relative also. It's actually quite s long walk from Cardiff central.)

Tenkaichi serves some of the best Japanese food in Cardiff. We've been regular customers since they opened in 1999 and the food has always been excellent and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is pleasant (no piped music), the service is quick and unobtrusive, and the menu has everything you want in Japanese food.

Got there at about 5.30pm on a Saturday. We didn't have to wait. The service was fast and the food was served only a few minutes after we ordered. It took more time for us to decide what to have (it was my first time in a Japanese restaurant so I had no idea what all the terms meant). In the end I decided to order a tenkaichi bento 🍱 (a rectangular boxy kind of plate containing compartments with food). Tuna, salmon, chicken, pork, veggie sushi, soup; it was delicious. I had all of that with sake 🍶 (it tastes great, like a light version of vodka). I highly recommend this place. I will definitely go again for some excellent Asian cuisine and sweet sake.

My friends and I love visiting Tenkaichi. The food is gorgeous, the decor is lovely and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. My faves are the different types of ramens and side dishes. But the whole menu is tasty; there’s so much variety and everything is fresh and cooked well. The mochi ice cream desserts are amazing too! We often order and collect “Mr Tenkaichi’s Favourites sushi platter” to eat at home - all the best maki rolls in one dish. Since this has been on the menu, we’ve definitely become regulars!!

Three stars were given due to customer service quality. The pink hair waitress was not professional and welcoming at all. She did not say a single word when we walk in, order or ask for bill. It gives us the feeling that she hates to serve people. We also saw her rolling eyes to another customer because the customer was not ready to order when she approached.

Given my boyfriend's and my experience with the food culture in Paris, Oslo, London, Slovakia and Singapore, we are giving this sushi bar five stars not just by Cardiff but also by international standards. Came here on a Saturday about 2pm, it wasn't too packed and quickly quieted down during our meal. The service was good, we walked in and waited not even a minute before a lovely lady came to us. She was very helpful in giving advice on what kind of sushi to try for the first time (I've been here previously to try their chicken bento box but never their sushi). Me and my partner both had bento boxes along with sushi for us to try, and a small bowl of miso soup accompanying our meal. I found the bento box to be quite nice and very filling, as I'm new to sushi all I can really say it was a delight to try and I'll definitely give it a go again. Their miso soup was very creamy and lovely in my opinion. My partner stated he also enjoyed all of his meal and was very stuffed after it also.

All the usual dishes on offer as individual dishes or bento boxes, which come well presented and in reasonable size portions - except the Ramon, which comes in an enormous bowl! My boyfriend and I visited here last week. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but inside it was clean and laid out in a quintessential Japanese style. The staff were friendly and professional and didn't feel the need to pester you during your meal, asking if you were enjoying it, which I find often makes people uncomfortable. Whenever we did decide to order more drinks, however, they were very quick to take our order. I ordered the Seafood Ramen and the cavier nigiri, and my boyfriend ordered the Tori Katsu Don. The food arrived very quickly and tasted amazing. We also ordered a flask of hot sake, and were amazed when the bill came to only £23. We'll definitely be going back again. :)

Have ordered the Tenkaichi Bento Box from here about 100 times (not exaggerating). I have strayed from my 'usual' once or twice but always go back to my favourite. A man of habit I guess. Anyway, food is always prepared quickly, sushimi always fresh/tasty/excellent texture, maki rolls well made, rice is well cooked/sticky, chicken teriyaki full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended!
