Reviews of The Prince of Wales - JD Wetherspoon

Really amazed by the decor in this Spoons pub. We walked in and said..... wow! Completely different to any other Spoons I have been in. Really liked it!
P. D.
Lovely experience with good atmosphere and found a table with great views. Loved the mixed grill and local ale. Missed out on breakfast because they were shut for maintenance
R. P.
If you like grand old buildings this is one for you. weatherspoons have done a splendid job. The usual different choices of ale and food (reasonable priced).
A. R.
This spoons is so pretty and we'll decorated. I love upstairs and downstairs. The food is great here too - would definitely recommend!
D. J.
Really big place with quick service, excellent service and selection of food. Reasonable prices and range of drinks clean toilets, nice staff, smoking area ... fairly busy 👍
N. L.
Place on it's own look amazing 👏 its clean, not smelly (like in some Weatherspoons 🙂), very friendly staff and very fast service. Place on it's own have great history! Check these out definitely. Really recommend to check here.
A. T.
Beer was amazing pizza was so big and tasty came here for the pdc darts really good day out

Princely Palace of vertical drinking. I recently frequented this place twice in as many weeks and found the atmosphere strangely inconsistent. On one occasion, it was so noisy with laddish bucks-night antics we had to leave in haste. There was no safe quarter as the pub was full to the brim. On the second occasion, it was relatively tranquil. It's definitely the kind of place where you start your evening but not spend the whole evening. Looking around it's mainly the older clientele who seem to order meals. The drinks, as expected, are exceedingly cheap and, like other Wetherspoons I've visited in Cardiff, the bathrooms are adorned in superior decor. The place is so huge it has different drinking areas that reflect different moods, but is mostly horrendous when the younger crowds descend looking for cheap alcohol. A perfectly adequate drinking establishment but pick your times!

This is an excellent city centre hostelry serving good food and beer at very reasonable prices. Our visit coincided with a Beer Festival. I planned on having just one pint but discovered that a pint of CWRW (Welsh for beer) from the excellent Evans Evans Welsh brewery was just £1.49 a pint. I was persuaded to have a few more. The staff are helpful and pleasant.
J. S.
Drinks are cheap but be prepared to wait at the bar and not be served in turn. And don't complain about it either or you'll be accused of being antagonistic toward other customers. Toilets are only accessible via staircase and lack of security could be a concern. On a more positive note, the door staff are extremely helpful and friendly as are the majority of the bar staff. Sadly one of the latter (possibly a manager) doesn't set a good example in his customer service skills and therefore lessons the numbers of stars awarded
K. S.
Great food and location, unfortunately it was really cold inside
G. K.
What a lovely pub. Went in after the rugby and it was great. Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's amazing. It was busy but not rammed. Bar staff were working really hard and I think I met Cardiff's nicest door man!
D. F.
Fantastic building in city centre, great atmosphere, typical wetherspoons welcome and excellent service, we loved it.
j. a.
Its was really busy, just about got a table. Services was quite quick, you order by a app and then they bring it to your table, so you don't go to zhe bar at all. Food was lovely and not expensive.
E. W.
Usually try to go there after Wales international matches when it's buzzing, great atmosphere most nights, good staff & door security fair play.
Quieter during the day with meals available, good menu... happily recommended.
P. A.
Amazing historical theatre converted into a pub. You can't fault Wetherspoons on the buildings that they save. Good service from efficient, friendly staff. Menu is the standard wetherspoons and terrific value.
G. R.
Nice pub but worse pint ever Excombe Gold, either line cleaner or out of date, just flat, so sour, and when I said can't drink this, my reply was what's wrong with it? Just explained the problem to a deaf ear then. Food great but let down by beer.
S. A.
Great spoons. Good priced beer and breakfast was good.
T. B.
Great atmosphere; friendly staff always willing to help. Toilets were clean; water wasn’t hot. No brownie bars as per ordered. Asked for refund. Other than that bog standard spoons.
A. R.
Always my favorite pub. All the wetherspoon pubs are my favorite.
B. L.
Large Wetherspoons that old to be a theatre, so lots of historic features and Friezes to too at, especially near the ceiling.
Great bar to view all the important matches as there are plenty of screen including a big cinema one!
L. C.
Quite a pricey spoons in comparison with others. Obviously varies dependant on location. Garlic pizza bread sent back as was totally raw... second one arrived even more so. The rest was OK but not the best food we've had from a spoons.
N. B.
Great for food and drink at reasonable prices. Can get very busy. Fab place to start a night out for cheap drinks.
L. J.
Food was pretty quick. Egg was over cooked and hardly any beans
Z. B.
Nice place , food decent , me and my partnerdidnt think that the luch time things were really worth the price , drinks were good though, such a waste for such a lovely theatre though
D. C.
Called in after a concert, it was late but they were still doing food which was really great, really enjoyed my pizza, great place to go
L. W.
Food Is cheap and some times could be better for the price it's alright. Staff are helpful and you can get table service by app so who can complain really.
E. M.
Had a really lovely meal here with my family, food was very prompt being served & was very tasty. Would definitely recommend eating here.
L. G.
Got the food order wrong so I ended up eating the larger breakfast that my friend had ordered as they stated it was the regular English breakfast, not the large. When it for a few drinks, we also had to wait 40 minutes for 4 ciders that were ordered via the app. Not great
n. h.
Original theatre features kept, nice place to have some basic food and a drink. Good service.
L. D.
Service is a lot better compared to other spoons around the city. Due to the lack of luxury of being able to go to the bar to collect your own pint slows down the process slightly, but not by too much at this place. It was nice to see staff getting things done :)
J.
OK, for a quick drink the staff are friendly BUT!!! The place needs a major refurbishment it feels dirty and unkempt.
G. K.
Typical spoons. Cheap beer and food. This place has kept some of the old building features, which is a nice touch
J. K.
Cheap and good drinks and food. Interior is quite unique and interesting. Can recommend.
C. ..
With 2 floors and a view of the old stage really adds to the character of this converted theatre pub! Relatively quick service, and a great location, only downside is that it can be busy on match nights due to it being within 100 metres of the principality stadium. Overall 5/5 for me though! Good food, atmosphere topped off by the character of the old theatre.
j. p.
Bit chilly when waiting for food upstairs.
Mixed Grill tasty, but chips could have been hotter.
B.
Again only there for a short time but beer good, food good and 'spoon's prices
M. R.
Yet again Weatherspoons have excelled at converting an old theatre into a stunning restaurant. They have kept much of the original building, and it has an amazing staircase. As always food is good and excellent value. Service a bit slower than normal. Plus, once again, incredibly designed toilets.
M. G.
It's a wetherspoons so the usual sticky floors, menus and tables. Food was ok and staff friendly. Building is an old theatre and really lovely - look up 🤓
J. Z. (.
As all Whetherspoons, Place is very busy and tables are cleared quite slowly sometimes. However, very cheap and cheerful! This one, Prince of Wales, has a love of character in the building, especially interior. Lovely Big screen upstairs to watch games etc.
Only 4 star because of slow clearance of tables.
r. s.
Nice building & interiors, not a fan of the faux theatre stalls painted on wood, better to just restore the original interior. Drink reasonably priced as always. Window seat give good view but exterior lighting shines in your face from outside at night
K. D.
My only complaint they need to sort the mixer pumps out the lemonade tasted awful and I don’t know what they done to the Pepsi it was dreadful, apart from that we had a cracking food . the staff were amazing and didn’t stop all day the pub was packed we didn’t wait long to get served considering it was Wales & Scotland match day, we would definitely go again once again we’ll done to all the staff you were awesome
B. S.
Blew my mind that this spoons was inside of an old theatre. Its a spoons, what can go wrong, great drinks and wasn't super busy so we got a table straight away, 100%% love a good spoons!
M. W.
The standard place to be pre rugby while visiting Cardiff. Good atmosphere, low prices and the stickiest floor known to mankind.
B. S.
Great place. Lots of interesting historical things here as its an old theatre. Amazing place, good service and nice food in a great atmospher.
M. T.
Beautiful building though food wasn't up to scratch. I ordered half roast Piri Piri chicken when it arrived the wing and the skin was missing, so I asked for another, they didn't give me another but sent someone to speak with me , they said that because of the griddle it was impossible to get the chicken off it without ripping off the wing and skin. I said that I had it in other wetherspoons without a problem, they said that their chef couldn't do them properly. So I had a refund . Two other members of my party opted for the curry though the poppadoms werent crispy and the naan bread was hard, disappointed with their meals as well. Usually give wetherspoons a 5 but not on this occasion.
M. L.
I walked into the building with my family after a rough day and I was greeted by one of the bar staff called Sean. Speaking to Sean whilst he served us with speed really made my day. Cant wait to come again!
S. W.
Can get a bit crowded but the food is edible and the drinks are far cheaper than anywhere else in Cardiff. We always go there when we visit Cardiff.
T. W.
Good service in a lovely pub, busy with queue to get service downstairs but no queue upstairs. Original theatre features are impressive
R. C.
On my recent first trip to the UK from Texas, more specifically to Cardiff, I was taking in some of the awesome sites of city. After walking around a while, I started to feel a bit hungry. A friend messaged me and suggested a place to eat. He suggested “The Prince of Wales” on St. Mary St. I walked into the establishment and looked around and waited to be seated. That apparently doesn’t seem to be protocol here. I found a seat and waited for a server to come to my table. Once again, I don’t think that was protocol. The gentleman behind the bar asked me if I wanted to eat or just something to drink. I told him I wanted to eat and he handed me a menu. He asked if I was wanting something specific. I told him I wanted something welsh. I can get a steak anywhere. I want something I won’t easily find in Texas. He suggested a few things but he said he really loved the Lamb cawl. Boom! Sold! I’ll take it. He also suggested a Welsh Cider called Black Dragon. I like cider, so I’ll take one of those too. Oh my gosh that was so good. The barkeep and the waiter was so unbelievably nice and the food was awesome. I highly recommend this place. If I ever make it back to Cardiff, I am definitely returning.
K. G.
Right by the station, plenty of tables in the interesting and impressive setting that is an old theatre. As spoons go, pretty class 👌
S. R.
It's a spoons .. didn't do food so can't comment.. but the food coming out look OK..
Bit slow to get drink but understandable as it was busy ..
All in all good place for a few cheap ones 😊
S. L.
1st time here, packed but really nice atmosphere and very fast service, now ready to watch Wales vs France
T. E.
Lovely building for a bar. Food was good and drinks were low cost making for a good visit with a group of guys.
S. W.
Food is as good as any other spoons, selection of beers is good. Plenty of room to sit or stand and great conversation of an old theatre. Worth going in just to see the converted theatre.
Good venue to watch the rugby as they have lots of TVs and even a big projector screen upstairs.
L. G.
We were served by bartender/server sam and he was amazing, great attitude and made our night thank you for fantastic service
L. M.
Lovely food, lovely helpful staff that was very efficient and excellent value for money, will definitely go back
J. E.
Nice old theatre turned wetherspoons, watch the rugby matches here if you aren't at the stadium! Great atmosphere, amazing vegan breakfast! Sit upstairs near the big windows it's the nicest place to sit.
R. G.
A fascinating building which started life as a church before becoming a theatre. Now, it is one of my favourite Whetherspoons!
L. J.
Sam is a bloody good waiter, he was brilliant the other night, enjoying his time and uplifting all customers throughout the night! 10/10
A. H.
Came in today for food ,and had excellent customer service from a guy just said team leader on his badge
j. d.
Very busy but pleasant bar. Good prices on beer and food
P. S.
A very large wetherspoons and even though they seemed a bit short staffed our food came very quickly. Service was good and the food and staff were great.
s. c.
I always visit this pub when I go to cardiff, but this time wasnt good, the staff that were there weren't very friendly and i eventually walked out after constantly being ignored while waiting to be served
L. D.
Lovely and gorgeous place with aesthetic vintage style interior design, all within a stones theow of the city centre.
D.
Typical spoons cheap food and booze this one is in a beautiful building but feels like it needs a deep clean and some money spent on it .Good selection off craft beers
J. S.
Food was tasty but could have been a bit warmer. Good service
A. L.
Good beer, good atmosphere.. Can get lively over the weekend..🍺😉😎🏴🤘
G. S.
Very good value food and good service. Very quick and a really pleasant place to spend an evening with friends. Definitely recommend, for even the value alone!
A. J. -. P.
Food selection is good. If you have an app then just order it on there and then get food to table, which is good.
R. G.
Got served quickly and drinks were very reasonably priced
D. M.
Good atmosphere for Tuesday night, great selection of drinks and food (till 11pm now). Walked out as bar shut at midnight. Stunning ex theatre restored sympathetic ally
e. h.
The food is your classic pub food. You get what you ask for and it’s usually top quality. The staff are very hospitable and friendly escpeciallt Meme who handled our needs very well, we were all very impressed with her glass stacking skills! The downside is the management which is a let down and we had to wait a while for our drinks.
A. M.
The service was exemplary and our server was spot on but the food was left wanting to be completely honest it has been a few years since I've been to a weatherspoons for obvious reasons in the main part but it will be a few more if that's the quantity of food you can expect if I'm completely honest not very impressed won't be going again
R. W.
Went there for breakfast didn't disapoint very good price and a refill on hot drinks
K. S.
Very nice portion sizes at breakfast! And nicely priced. Could just do with tables being cleaned a bit sooner.
c. r.
Food wasn't anything special if that. Good pub atmosphere
W. D.
Really nice building the ceiling is just nice to look up too, the drinks could be better , service was ok some staff could be a bit more welcoming would be nice but i get in that job it can be stressful so it's all good
J. R.
Busy night but managed to get a table, only draw back was it was near the door so every time someone came in or went out we had a blast of cold air so didn't warm up enough to take my coat off.
Shared a margarita pizza was ok, tomato sauce was a little too runny and was slipping off the pizza base.
Good central location close to central station.
N. F.
Helpful waiting staff the one bar person was grumpy but not a bad place to eat and drink
k. m.
Great bit of brekkie and fast service. Tables were a bit sticky though, but didn't ruin our experience.
S. J. A.
The food was lovley I had a mixed grill for only 4.99 and a double vodka which realy did hit the spot
N. C.
Lovely pub and inside was superb
M. B.
Loved the Prince, great prices, lovely old theatre ,great venue. Worth a visit.
Y. H.
Nice pint. Very busy but found a seat upstairs.
C. C.
The pub was clean and friendly service, breakfast came very quickly but it was cold😕 think they either need to turn up their holding unit or cook it hotter
K. A. P.
Nice place friendly staff good selection of drinks/food
S. C.
Wetherspoons always great value, lovely staff
R. R.
Love having lunch here with my mum after a days shopping in Cardiff. The food and drink is always good value. The staff are always happy to help and friendly. A great place to sit and relax and only a short walk back to the train station.
S. P.
The service here was fantastic, especially from the manager. I was delivered a very over-cooked steak and sent it back. The manager was very apologetic and made a bit of a fuss of us, and gave us a drink for the hassle. When the food returned, the steak was cooked perfectly and was quite tasty, good standard for a chain pub.
F.
Weatherspoons is weatherspoons anywhere isn't it, zero atmosphere and half hearted service but breakfast quick as lightning and cheep as chips
N. N.
Space space space clean clean clean, service was excellent and fast a credit to the hospitality industry and the cherry on top is that prices are competitive.
B. w.
It is what it is a spoons no thrills alright food and good prices on the drinks.
P. M.
Met up with mates from RAF St Athan Rugby Team. Central location for travel from near and far and cheap quality beer.
P. H.
Normal Witherspoon pub however the building and architecture is worth a visit. As all staff attentive
M. A.
cozy place , it is just a mix of antiquity and modernity . If you're looking for a peaceful cup of coffee or a shot of a drink then this is a place you should visit, moderate prices and large windows upstairs offering a memorable sunset view on st Mary street
c. P.
Meet with the girls has lunch which was really good & great value for money will definately go again!
I. P.
NYE drinks table only service. Easy to order drinks on the App. Staff busy but drinks came quickly. Good evening
G. A.
Very busy match day! Sadly the clearing away was affected, the place was a mess! More staff needed on key dates clearly 🙄
L.
The prince of Wales is in the very center of Cardiff! Two minutes walk from the main central train station!
The staff are friendly with a huge menu for all tastes, something for everyone to drink at prices you really can't beat!
What makes this wetherspoon different for me is the building Itself, with many of the original features and building parts it's an old theatre and it's absolutely grand and eye opening, really really cool!
R. W.
Decent pub. Not right that they raise the prices when the rugbys on.
K. I.
Very nice place, good food, good bear's and friendly staff!!
P. H.
Saturday night in Cardiff so obviously very busy, but beer was very good (not always the case).
D. H.
Big pub, clean and tidy, covid organised. Only negative, I had the big breakfast, when has mushrooms turned into just one small mushroom on the plate, nit picking but hey.
A. L.
Great staff and very cheap beer at very good quality
S. C.
Basic surroundings. Service is quick and efficient. Priced in the medium. Nothing too expensive. Good selection of ales. Comfortable seating arrangements.
J. F.
Prince of Wales Wetherspoons pub in Cardiff Central one of the entrances is down the Far right hand street level entrance off St Mary's Street walking away from Cardiff Castle very wide open doors for exit and entrance toilets downstairs for your convenience two exits and entrances to different ends of the pub close to Central Cardiff railway station long bar plenty of room to spread your elbows at the bar good customer service quality beers real ales lagers at reasonable prices
G. T.
Busy Saturday afternoon, which I would think is pretty standard for a Saturday in Cardiff, and counted 4, yes FOUR staff working behind the bar, it's not really that acceptable, surely Wetherspoons know how to run a pub by now, and you'd think they'd have more than 4 bar staff working, and the ones that we're there weren't even paying attention to customers, with one person just walking up to the bar being served immediately when other had been in their eyeline for the last 5 minutes.
Used the app, which attempts to circumvent the waiting in a queue for the limited amount of staff it was pretty good a short wait but even though it was busy came in good time.
If it's too busy to run your app then it should mark as suspended for that premises, until it less busy or can be run more efficiently.
R. A.
Great place with good beers and nice atmosphere.
T. L.
Great service and a lovely breakfast. Staff very nice.
T.
Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning as this building was open and there's a small choice of cooked breakfast combinations on offer. You do need to check in with your phone on entry due to Covid regulations. There is a manual way of checking in if you've no phone. You can then scan the QR code at your table to order. This is really quick and easy to do as you can pay straight away too. There is table service if you can't order by phone. Breakfast was standard as ordered - nothing unusual or outstanding. However there was only one coffee machine to provide the free refills to everyone in the pub eating breakfast. So, you had to queue for drinks and the machine ran out quickly.
C. H.
Seemed really good however went late at night and was silly busy but nice enough
T. L. F.
Fabulous Wetherspoon pub, a former theatre. Excellent
P. H.
It's okay for a Wetherspoons, some beers are got and miss, avoid the John Smiths, God awful in this place. The Guinnness and IPA. were good though. Didn't eat on this occasion, but the food being served looked pretty good
N. W.
Wasn't the best. No milk available for a short time, got the order wrong!! Bacon not the best!!. I suspose value is ok!.
L. R.
Food was really nice quickly served and in especially not expensive.
j. w.
Nice building, ok food. Had 7 steak dinners and 7 pints of Guinness, i am a big lad, 36 stone and im only 5 foot 3. Will be back for the curry night
P. W.
Large open spaced pub close to station & start of St Mary's St good selection of beers usual choice of food as In any Wetherspoons busy most times of day
N. 9.
A JDW pub usual suspects on the menu ... Very busy at time of visit !
P. D.
Decent and handy Wetherspoons for the main Railway station and also the main night time area. Fantastic renovation from a old theatre to a great pub. Comfortable and not to expensive.
S. s.
Great surroundings in this former theatre. Well worth a visit.
M. B.
omg what a beautiful building food is very good
D. G.
Looking forward to you opening up! Beautiful decor, especially upstairs (where it used to be a theater). Cheapest booze in town with very decent (daily changing menu). Their £5 full breakfast til 1130 is always a winner!
K. M.
Rammed and very noisy. Good atmosphere but difficult to find a table.
A. M.
Brewdog pints we ordered tasted very strongly of bleach - had to return them for something else. Food good for the price.
D. k.
This building is sooooo beautiful, food and drinks are reasonable price and taste is good. Service was friendly.
J. B.
Went yesterday Breakfast was minging but not a bad cup of coffee. Burnt bacon, cold beans & tasteless egg.
w. r.
Similar range. Very nice building. Good for rugby.
K. B.
Beautiful renovation of a former theatre. When we visited last week we were very impressed with the standard of service, a credit to the management team and the company. Well done!!
L. R.
Called in for a Cuppa ended up having brekkie very nice and great friendly service
G. L.
Very pleased with the service and quality of the food 😀
P. J.
You know what your getting at spoons. This is a busy pub
D. B.
Actually quite a nice Weatherspoons pub, which is a phrase I never thought I would say. Obviously there are still one or two of the obligatory Weatherspoons clientelle that look as though they have been drinking Methylated spirits, but on the whole quite nice.
R. P.
Good service, and food, and yes I would use it again.
U. R.
Busy as usual but lots of efficient bar staff doing their best . Prices seem a little higher though but that's the same everywhere . Great ace to meet up for the evening and great value food
L. E.
Really good value for money and nice staff
S. T.
Nice food, brilliant friendly service
L.
Lovely afternoon meal here, talk about great value for money. Quick service, friendly staff!
Even returned for brekkie the next day! Delicious! 😁👌
B. C.
Staff are great here and food is good
L. J.
Great food for the price, nice chill pub.
A. N.
Typical Wetherspoons pub. Good beer , excellent bar service considering how busy it was. Everything was great, thanks.
J. C.
Not much stands out about this venue in terms of menu or choices, although their selection is large, its a modern copy and paste of many other franchised wetherspoons in the area, one thing that does stand out is the historical theatre venue and an immaculate centered spiral staircase
T. D.
Nice friendly pub .. loads of space
J.
Bar staff and waiting staff really helpful and friendly
Breakfast meal was well worth the money.
I. H.
Alex R is the best service i’ve ever had in cardiff , great bloke
J. P.
Nice venue, the usual good value meals, and Covid safety measures were good. The only thing I felt the beers tasted a bit stale on the day we visited.
B. D.
Usual food fare, gristly steak, inconsistent quality good one evening, not great the next but Reasonably priced.
R. S.
What more can you say, always affordable quality food at a realistic price. Oh and did I mention good beer at stupid low prices.
F. S.
Good honest pup serving very reasonably priced food and drink
E. R.
Typical Wetherspoon experience, good value for price, in city center and always busy
B. R.
The original theatre 'fabric' has been painstakingly preserved. Worth a visit!
L. B.
Just a Wetherspoons but really interesting old building
C. D.
They could use some spaghetti with garlic bread or bolinases chicken or beef.
H. N.
The lady with the beautiful blue hair (Tia) has been amazing. She provides excellent customer service and has honestly made mine and my friend’s night. She really deserves a praise.
G. J.
Spacious and friendly Wetherspoons. Food good.
P. W.
Nice pub to meet up with friends on a night out.
T. W.
Nice place for a drink on a Friday, before the the six nations
V. D.
Never had anything bad to say about this place, its ya typical spoons
C. M.
I lovely pub in Cardiff and the food was fab
R. F.
Pros:
• it's a spoons, everyone loves spoons
• fantastic interior decor, love the old theatre thing
• good range of choice as usual in a spoons
• cheap decent food
Cons:
• does conjure up an image of Prince Charles
• So many stairs to the bathroom
c. c.
Really good large pub good decor nice friendly n helpful staff... all good.. pleasant experience ..
T. L.
A good Wetherspoons. This one used to be a theatre. Lovely sweeping staircase in the middle of the bar. Great selection of ales
C. W.
Slightly above average food but at the cheap price you can't complain. Cheap, good quality drinks too
K. E.
Great place to drink, the theater space is fantastic I love getting a seat upstairs. Being able to order on the app is great and saves time and dashing back and forth to the bar with drinks.
Food here isn't great though. It's cheap but obviously everything is microwaved. Often you'll get cold spots in your food or burnt areas that are completely inedible.
M. O.
Always a decent pint in here , plenty of room between the tables for the time being , only criticism of their food is portion control, they need to be able to count over 12 when serving chips .
H. A.
Lovely place, come here all the time. Would be great if they added more gluten free options though
J. G.
The place needs a face lift, and although the food wasn't too bad, some of it was cold. All the staff we came into contact with, were lovely.
S. O.
One of the fanciest Wetherspoons in Cardiff, I've never had a bad experience here! I would not advise having 12 shots in a row, but that's on me, not on them. It's a great place to spend either with family or friends or to visit alone. Sadly, you can no longer order a pitcher of milk...
j. t.
Ok but carpets were sticky and need a clean
A. B.
Lovely large breakfast. Would definitely recommend. Not too crowded on the Sunday morning we were there.
D. J.
Classic spoons, food is the same as any other spoons, alcohol selection is reasonable but the choice of Welsh ales could be more varied.
S. S.
Had a good time alcohol alright prices good
I. M.
Great location, reasonable food + best of all dark fruit on tap
K. “. S.
Food was warm and fresh. Place was well maintained. Welcoming staffs felt like in UK.
B. N.
so easy and affordable to order. clean tables. amazing service and made me feel comfortable on my first night out in a while
J. R.
Weatherspoons, what can you say, food as to be expected, except the surroundings here are the exception in this case, not the rule. Worth a visit as it is stunning inside. Only complaint was that the tables were far to crammed in ( we were on one of the balconies). We really struggled to get in and out of our seats, as did other customers. I had to climb over the empty seat of the table next to ours to get to my chair. If we visited again, would avoid that area of seating, which is a shame as it has the best views.
P. M.
same old spoons but nothing to complain about 👍
A. G.
Decent for a spoons, tacky and sticky but that's like most spoons
s. p.
Amazing pub. Cleverly decorated around the original theatre. Lovely breakfast & helpful staff. I have a lactose intolerant partner d to make changes to our order to accommodate his needs was no bother at all. We're definitely going to be returning!
G. M.
A very busy day today.. food still good staff very apologetic for a bit of a wait ( about 5 minutes longer than told).
M. S.
Lovely venue, very historic but I dont reccommend the food, especially the bbq panini!literally few pieces of chicken, one or two grated pieces of bacon and bbq sauce(more bbq sauce than meat)very disappointed
g. r.
Really good whetherspoons top food and drinks at great prices, love the cocktail pichers , really clean toilets which is a big bonus, friendly and helpful staff, great atmosphere, highly recommended
B. B.
Friendly and efficient staff. Lovely cooked breakfast. We always come here when we stay over in Cardiff.
G. B.
Typical Witherspoon's pub. Cheap drinks and food. Converted from an old theater so you can still see a lot of the old building.
B. M.
Stunning building that used to be a theatre and they kept many of the old features and balconies - upstairs. If you are not a drinker, their food is very reasonably priced, including a full large breakfast up until mid-day for around £5
M. W.
Floors need washing daily I felt I was sticking to floor
N. C.
Great place. Excellent value food and drinks. Very central location, 5 minutes walk from Central station.
t. d.
They serve good coffee. If you get steak ask for one lvl cooked above what u want they undercook it if not
N. F.
First of all: It is an amazing venue! They turned a former theatre into a huge pub. So if you head there to have a few drinks, you should have a great time. However, the food was less than ok. Dry over-cooked burgers and soggy chips. Everything was sticky - from the tables to the cutlery to the plates.
k. c. b. A.
Huge space to meet with friends. The breakfasts are great value. It was very busy on remembrance Sunday - full of football fans. We all did the two-minute silence together which felt very respectful.
Well done Spoons!!
p. p.
Plenty of space quick service. And generous servings. Pity about the hot chocolate it was very watery.
R. M.
Lovely food, amazing place.
We did order two separate sides of onion rings and they threw a few small ones in the plate instead. Not a big deal but you pay for them. Other than that, it really is a nice Wetherspoon.
P. O.
Very nice food and pint

I had an argument with colleagues or rather a gentle disagreement should I say about my spoons visit this weekend. There are clearly some views about the owner that I'd rather not air here that my colleagues are less bashful about sharing with me. Others are sniffy about the "usual" clientele but when pressed find it hard to articulate the exact qualities they're alluding to. My line, and I've shared it before, is that if you're in town and you've a family to feed in a hurry, then it's hard to beat particularly when you're looking not to hemorrhage cash and your middle name isn't Rothschild. I've presented my bill (a mere 27 notes for a cooked lunch and drinks for 4) and ask, where else? I'm also doing my bit for the poor buggers in the service industry who rely on these jobs - so don't be as sniffy as my associates and give it a try. And do try not to think about Europe too much.
R. G.
Quickly delivered to the table. Nicely cooked. A higher standard for a wetherspoons regarding the food. Very tasty.
M. S.
The interior is a refurbished theatre, and has been decorated to maintain the original aesthetic. Loads of space, finding a table was not difficult, despite having plenty of customers.
The food was excellent, and very reasonably priced. Less than £10 for a meal and a pint. I had the chicken burger, which was a large portion, made with good quality chicken breast. It comes with onion rings, and chips, which were cooked to perfection.
Friendly staff, and prompt service (food arrived in about 15 minutes). I would definitely recommend The Prince of Wales for a great evening!
S.
Massive pub, always a place to sit, loads of staff & always served very quickly. Great choice on menu. The staff very helpful, the place crammed with hand sanitisers which is great. It's the pub I always call in when I'm in the city centre. Thank you Prince Of Wales.
R. A.
Only bought drinks here service was good, another typical spoons
L. T.
Nice place but very busy
L. G. (.
Food wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible either, I had the Sunday brunch and most of the food seemed microwaved before being served to us.
The table was dirty, we had to ask the bar for a cloth to wipe it down. One of our party had a burger which had a stale bun, or at least harder than usual.
Overall, I would not return for food but would happily return for a drink or two.
K. B.
The food great staff great prices great. One thing that really winds me up is that bar closes 1pm the bouncers are chucking you out ordering you to go at 1.01pm who in this world can drink a pint in one minute. Disgusting attitude just think if you want people out at 1pm shut the bar at 12.30pm. Drinking up time laws used to allow you 20 minutes drinking up time. Sort it out its not the first time I have argued on this with your staff and I love witherspoon.
A. Y.
Grate pub/bar. If you want to have a relaxing time with freinds this is the place to do it. Fantastic food and a really nice selection of drinks to pick from. The venue is lush and filled with lots of different things for you to look at! The staff are really nice and will help you out if you need it. It shuts at around d midnight and is a good place to start your night out!
L. S.
I went here for a meal for a day out with my family son, and fiancé and must say it was amazing. The food their is mouthwatering and simply to die for. I am very impressed with how the food was presented and how the staff was with us. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Cardiff!!
Their cheesy garlic bread is also so nice!!!
R. K. B.
the reason I put this place to my list is because I know a place called " The Princess of Wales" which is actually in London near to my house in Hackney. I really like both places they are like twins. I was so excited when I saw this one in Cardiff. I knew have to go in. No regrets at all. The decoration is impressive. The service is quick and good.
Unfortunately I didn't like the beef pie but I would return here no matter what!
S. W.
Never disappoints, prompt and helpful bar staff, and the Carlsberg is only £2.89.
D. L.
Really nice location for a before game drink and a meal.
I like the theme of the decorations inside.
N. B.
Lovely place to go and a great pint and lovely food
M. B.
Cracking pub, always seems to be busy but a great atmosphere.
l. s.
Nice venue. Very very busy at times. My wife and I agreed that the toilets were the worst we have seen in years. The smell of urine in both the mens and ladies was unbearable and was coming up the spiral staircase in to the bar.
A shame as this is a good pub in a great city
J. H.
Hard to make a true assessment due to crowd of people during match day.
E. W.
Wonderful place to be in architecturally. Interiors are beautiful especially for a wetherspoons! The atmosphere here is always great and of course it is cheap and cheerful. It's right next to the train station and to town so perfect for a night out. But make sure you take your ID as the doormen are vigilant!
S. T.
Does what it says on the tin. Food is lovely
C. H. J.
Great place for casual drinks - we stayed only for one cider which was great and very nice. Standard Spoons quality!
Disabled access available, table service through the app, or usual bar ordering.
I was disappointed slightly they didn't have Kölsch because they usually have a side variety of drinks from different places, so had to settle for a Dark Fruits. Nothing against them but would have been a pleasant change.
J. H.
As with most 'spoons the range of drinks is always brilliant and the crafts ever-changing. We go here quite often and I've never had a bad meal either, always done perfectly. Since the refit it has become one of my favourite pubs, especially on days with a sporting event.
M.
U cant beat a mixed grill in here. Great cheap prices. Great for catch ups with friends as no music. Always good to have a chin wag. Lol 👍🏽😁
S. D.
I stopped off for a coffee on a cold day and had a free refill. I was served by a cheerful, helpful member of staff. I was pleased to see they has retained the theatre decor and layout. The menu had a wide choice of burgers, pizzas, pasta, jacket potatoes, chicken and other meals. When I'm in Cardiff next I will try out the food too, but it was a very nice place to sit and enjoy myself for a while.
S. C.
Food good but got my drink wrong twice
T. W.
Probably the most popular spoons in Cardiff apart from Cardiff bay. Lovely lay out, good food, fast service and cheap. Gets super busy on weekends and can be hard to find a table, but what do you expect in spoons on a weekend
C. M.
The pub is always busy but I found you get served very quickly. The food arrived fast too. A tip: if you want 2 courses, order them at the same time as you'll get a discount. I wasn't aware of that and I missed out even though the barman did try to claim it. The food was top notch.
J. E.
Very nice food and worth the money
D. B.
It is what it is. The floors are stickier than most places.
B. C.
Great pub in the Wetherspoons chain. Good beer, wine, spirits and cocktails. Reasonably priced pub grub. Offers on throughout the week - curry night, steak night, fish and chips night. Noisy, but good for groups or a quick bite. Will be going back.
W. B.
A Yank, with a daughter in Cardiff.
Each time I was in that wonderful city, the Prince was a place to relax. The Sandringham was also lovely.
Alas, I have not been in Europe for over 14 months because of the heinous pandemic.
I wish the staff and mangers of the Prince of Wales the very best.
Pay no attention to the naysayers, you have a great establishment with good, reasonably price fare and a damn good pint.
Please keep in mind, you cannot please all the people all of the time.
I will be back.

The food is excellent and great value. Most of the staff are really polite although there is one particular female manager (the one with blonde hair usually tied up, mid-late thirties) who literally makes you feel like your not welcome there, and appears to make the staff feel the same way. The clientele are not the nicest bunch though and the managers frequently end up in violent altercations (I've witnessed three). Hats off to them I couldn't deal with the dregs of society they have to deal with.
L. S.
Fabulous building ...ceilings are amazing ....and so are the ciders beers ....wines .....and gin .....
T. S.
Great atmosphere here, perfect for a quiet few drinks with colleagues after work or a catch up with friends. It's a converted theatre so has a really unique layout inside. Queues at the bar can cause a bit of a wait, but if you order food or drinks through the app they will bring it to your table pretty quickly. Security guys can be a bit unhelpful and petty on the door, but once you're inside it's a nice and relaxed evening.
S. G.
We went for lunch on Friday. Was really busy. Waiting time for food was half hour but arrived after 15 minutes. Pizza was nice but my niece's burger was burnt. Lager was not cold enough. Good prices though for meal including drink
A. w.
Standard weatherspoons food and good service
S. P.
Beautiful pub retaining many original features of the theatre whilst still being a true Spoons.
D. B.
Fantastic conversion of old theatre to modern pub, while keeping most of original features!
J. F.
One of the better Spoons in Cardiff, the interior is special as it used to be a theatre and it has been sympathetically turned into a bar. Right by the station so gets very busy on Friday & Saturday nights and match days. Big bar with plenty of people serving whenever I've been there. Food and drink (and prices!) as expected for a Spoons.
P. L.
Hit and miss with the food but if you get a nice steak it is a really nice steak. They made a mistake on my order but were friendly and corrected it without an argument. It also has a theatre theme upstairs, look up and appreciate the view / history of the place.
N. P.
Massive typical Witherspoon. Vast Pub in Grand old theatre with original stucco decoration dining area opposite the stage.
Wide selection of food and drinks, great value. Excellent atmosphere, clean environment, staff work so hard to keep up with the very busy times. 10/10 Very friendly & professional staff.
Disability accessible entrance, toilets & lifts available. Great service. Come in groups or individually you will enjoy. Pizza is available, What more do you want, all under one roof. We really enjoyed our meals.
H. T.
Great place. Unfortunately my food arrived and had to be sent back as it wasn't as it should have been!
J. R.
We had a large and a small mixed grill. Well worth the money . Very nice Indeed. The bar staff were polite and quick serving . The food didn't take very long to come to our table. Would certainly go there again .
J. J.
Nice pub with great food and a great atmosphere
U. R.
Central and very reasonable. Great food. Close to cardiff central station, the Principality Stadium and easy access to all the great department stores and lively bars. Really good food . It can get a bit noisy and busy at weekends or if there's an event at the stadium but for cheap hearty food and reasonably priced drinks it's worth a visit
S. K.
Awsume venue..lush food.very friendly staff. Service excellent..
P. P.
I don't feel comfortable rating this venue as on the day I visited , there was a major soccer match due to be played , the pub was packed with noisy fans . Why young girls brought babes in prams in , I will never know , I wouldn't have taken a child of mine into that situation. We couldn't get a table so no food and the drinks were served in plastic glasses . Perhaps if I go again my experience will be a better one.
L. O.
Like Wetherspoons in London, with two distinct differences. One being a small local menu. And the other the prices. Much lower than central London of course.
R. M.
Was a nice establishment with plenty of room and a nice daily burger lunch special. Lots of beers on tap available. One of the few places that i found that had a traditional welsh food section on their menu and is also open after 6pm. Would give it a try especially if you have a large group and need variety on the menu.
C. S.
Great breakfast and beer selection. Marked down due to the floor being disgustingly sticky and there were not enough seats for all customers to sit down (9am Saturday). If the top bar was open I'm sure that would solve this issue.
I've been here several times and will continue to do so as the beer is cheap and good quality.
D. J.
Excellent place for lunch or even dinner food is excellent for the price. They can be really busy at peak times so the staff may occasionally forget something. I think this is due to simply not enough staff at these times as I see them running around like headless chickens, so please be nice to the waiting staff.
H. D.
Great staff. I ordered my meal on app but unfortunately was in a different Wetherspoon. I told them what I did and they were very helpful and understanding, never made me feel inadequate and cooked me a fresh meal. A great place to eat and the staff are absolutely wonderful.
T. B.
Bar staff very pleasant.not many customers there.plenty of bar and floor staff on. unfortunately the state of the tables let it down every one covered in glass and plates staff walking past not doing anything.we got there about 8.30 pm this one table in question was not cleaned till gone 10.30 absolutely shocking other wise would of be a 4 star.
Only a 3 based on good service by the bar maid
Z. L.
Mainly good service at this place, however the app doesn't seem to do it's job very well here. Twice I ordered drinks before my food on the app and the first time drinks arrived after my food, the second time the drinks didn't arrive, 45 mins after I ordered them I approached the bar and got them myself. Other that that no issues with the food and food waiting times, I would reccommend ordering drinks at the bar and just using the app to order food if there's a large queue.
T. I.
Resonably priced food & alcoholic & soft beverages. Staff are efficient & polite. Good amenities. Conveniently situated in City Centre.
M. W.
Slow service, even if you use the app to order, but I guess that's because it's very popular. Wetherspoons has its marketing bang on the money though. Reasonably tasty food at a reasonable price. The tables are usually sticky I find, so maybe the management should task cleaning with warm soapy water to an individual rather than leaving it to the table runners. Try the Chicken Tikka Marsala, it really is very good.
A. K.
Long standing pub at the lower end of St. Mary Street. Interesting building a former theatre, this pub is large and located over two floors.
As with a Wetherspoons, you can expect a reasonable selection of drinks choices, often with some local drinks products being promoted.
Didn't eat during my visit, but again the standard fayre is on offer here and expect it would live up to the standard one expects at these places - adequate and modestly priced.
During lunchtime, this a popular venue with shoppers, office workers and pensioners.
Evenings, the pub is much more lively with many drinkers taking advantage of the lower than normal city centre prices before going on to a more expensive club.
Due to the location of this place, on the corner of two big streets, there is unfortunately almost space for outside seating apart from two tables.
Overall, a good place for a quick bite or drink.
C. C.
Reasonable priced food and drinks
K. N.
Lovely big pub, good service and nice choice of beers.
T. Y.
Wetherspoons is anyways super cheap wherever you go, good beer and food. Looks like it was built in an opera House.
M. S.
Delicious!
S. W.
My mates strong dad fell down the stairs drunk. So for me 5 stars as for pure comedy value haha
t. j.
Good price, happy with food
B. F.
Good atmosphere and good offer on beer
N. G. U.
This is one of my favourite pub in Cardiff City and will always recommend it any day: good food, wide range of world premium larger and ales and the service is good. It can be really, really busy on a Fridays.
I. B.
Usually really good nice food and good prices but today's the first time I left disappointed as I had fish and chips and my fish was over done with quite a lot of oil on the fish and plate my partner agreed who's a chef. I politely told to the waitress on her check back about it for her to reply I can try and change it but I'm sure the chef will say no so I said not to worry I will eat what a can. As i couldn't eat it I spoke to the bar team leader who agreed and gave me a refund he was brilliant to be fair. I never complain but the response I got was really disappointing.
M. T.
Went for a couple of drinks Saturday night and it was heaving. They've got the table service app but I don't think they would have been doing it. Fairly quick to get served. You'll be lucky to get a table. Been for food previously and its standard Spoons fare.
B. S.
Theatre style pub. Amazing place to just have a drink and look around the building it has a lot of history and lots of it is still original.
A. c.
Cheap drinks good service but interior needs updating
D. L.
Visited for dinner with a friend on a Friday evening. Very packed in there but still found a table to sit at. Amazing pizza which is new to the menu, and two desserts for £5. Great vibe in the pub, loving the app to order to the table.
C. D.
Very very popular and very busy on an early Saturday evening. Predictable, but reliable standard of food. Good range of beers, service was good, although tables not cleared and cleaned between customers. Just too busy
J. P.
Shame they don't do a Sunday lunch anymore like they used to .
Some of the food is a little too expensive .
Shame they still don't do more Welsh recipes....
t.
Another very good spoons just around the corner from the Great Western as is probably the better choice on a Friday night
G. H.
Hadn't been here for about 5 years. Had a lovely breakfast here just before midday Saturday 5th January 2019, with the family. The bar staff were lovely and a pleasant place to eat. Think we may have only just missed the lunchtime rush, lol! x
V. R.
Popped in for a coffee as Mum wanted to use the bathroom. Clean and tidy pub. Staff was helpful. We don't have food there but we saw that people was having breakfasts and it looked nice.
J. D.
Great place for a drink with friends. They also have the grandest and cleanest toilets I've ever seen in a wetherspoons. Most of the ones I've used in the past have been an absolute state! Well done to the guys here.
M. S.
Great service, quick to. Always good value for and drink.
E. T.
Staff friendly, the food is lovely seating area up and down stairs. Really spacious
K. P.
Food and drink was lovely, staff left a little to be desired, someone who I assume is superviser or manager due to wearing her own shirt rather than company uniform, completely ignored the requests of a older gentleman because she was "too busy". having worked in a pub myself I could see that yes they was busy but not to the point that she could point blank ignore and walk away from someone asking for help, and she wasn't the only one to dismiss him either. Also as I said the food was lovely but when asked if it was okay the lad who asked walked away before we could do more then get half a yes out, so if we had had a complaint it wouldn't have been heard anyway. It seems a shame that an otherwise lovely afternoon with good food and company was spoilt by this. I know a busy pub is hard work! And a busy resturant is hard too, I've worked in both environments, but customer service is a major part of the job, sadly even when rushed off your feet. Still a nice pub regardless and I'm sure it was just an off day.
A. P.
By far it is the greatest weatherspoons I have ever encountered in regards to eating a delicious meal and downing a nice mouth watering glass of bitter!
The atmosphere and surroundings are unique and wonderful!
S. W.
Came for meal tonight all empty tables dirty noticed only one member of staff working on floor, asked her if she could clean our table and she politely said yes, she also brought our food lovely member of staff. But to my dismay I noticed staff taking new boxed glasses behind bar and putting them up on display slots not even washing them first.where I now that they shouksbe renovated first. We had a lovely meal but I do think that the staff could be more utilised at clearing the dirty tables than talking behind the bar and one or to staff doing all the cleaning up.
B. M.
Went in here at 7pm and there was no lemonade and no wine on tap. Customer service was extremely poor with seemingly inexperienced staff behind the bar who had no concept of service with a smile or apology. With plenty of other bars in Cardiff that are similarly reasonably priced I don't see much reason to rush back to this Wetherspoons.
P. M.
Nice staff, meals were pub standard, nothing above or below of expectations. The table 69 where my wife and I were initially was cold place, no heating at all and we moved to number 5, warm place.
I will be back again...
S. B.
It's was pleasant met up with friends! Enjoyed nice fish & Chips followed by icecream.
S. C.
This is the best Witherspoon's we have been in. The food was amazing. All staff were happy and cheerful
D. R.
Great pub used to be a cinema.went tosee sound of music there when it first came out in the seveties.good beer, didn't have food
E. O.
OH MY GOSH. This place is a theatre!!!! And they have THE BEST puddings for £1.80 AND £2.80 for GIN. My 3 fave things!!!! The service was SOOOOO fast. You can order on the app!! I’m in awe of the theatre. WHY DIDNT I KNOW THIS EXISTED
L. C. (.
Absolutely amazing, great seating variety, clean, cheap drinks and friendly staff (most the time).
This spoons is split into three floors and is a converted theatre. The toilets are situated on -1 and 2. There two bars so you can rest assured you won't have to wait a long time to get served, alternatively, if there are long queues at the bars you can download the Wetherspoons app on your phone, choose the table and have your drinks delivered to you (these drinks/food are prioritised over regular orders and so if you use the app you will be served first). The ground floor is spacious, offering three quarters for seating situated around the bar. There two entrances on the ground floor so there is never any queues.
J. T.
Had a meal and a couple of pints of Guinness today. 🍺 and food very good. Only downside was as Spain and Wales are playing later today, we were notified that all prices would be increased from 2:00pm. Bit of profiteering here I think.
T. B.
Great scran...Enjoyed..Cheers Guys...😁😁👍👍🍺🍺🍺
G. ..
Very spacious and decent pub atmosphere. Was very crowded but it was due to the Welsh rugby game on the TV.
For a wetherspoons this pub was pretty clean and tidy - surpinging since how hit it actually is. Floor by bar area upstairs was sticky but that doesn't bother me much. Would reccomend for small and big groups.
D. C.
the place is dingy and smelly, but with the cheapest drinks around cardiff you'd expect some minor flaws. standard spoons menu, food probably microwaved - it wasn't the best, but at £6 for a burger and chips what more do you expect.
P. M.
Large Weatherspoon pub. Good location being near to bus and train station, stadium and plenty of hotels. Bars upstairs and downstairs. Plenty of seating, but the place gets rammed to the rafters on weekends and when there is a big event happening.
Food is reasonable and typical for the chain. Drink prices are good and service is quick.
D. W.
It's a 'Spoons. What else do you need to know?
R. M.
Really impressive wetherspoons with good staff, all very good
I. P.
Lived for a while in Cardiff and absolutely loved that place! I literally miss it every day. Great burgers and traditional breakfasts, such a great variety of craft beers and worth to remember chocolate fudge. Cheap place also, and the atmosphere... wonderful.
d. r.
Great service by all staff. Spot on
S. D.
Has to be one of the most stunning venues bought by Wetherspoons, simply spectacular old theatre, sensitively converted into a pub - just spectacular!! Just please keep your butter chilled and not melted so it doesn't squirt all over you when you try to butter your toast! 🤯
L. C.
4* relative to whetherspoons that is.
Lovely decor in this place as it used to be a theatre. Nice and big so you'd rarely be stuck without a table. Service at the bar can be slow at times, but especially on weekends.
L. B.
If you can get a table, order everything from there, wait gets busy at the bar. Table drink service fast, food not so much at busy times. Nice setting though
J. K.
It's a Wetherspoon pub.
The food was nice and we were served quickly. We ordered desert as well and it was not forgotten like few times it has happened.
The place and the toilet was very clean. I think they deserve 5 stars.
p.
This is one of my favourite Wetherspoon pubs in the UK. Purely for design and how the pub has been arranged inside an old theatre. Ensure you go upstairs where the 1st floor bar is based on what used to be the stage! Behind you are still some old tiers of seating and original ceiling. It really is worth a visit just to see how unique this pub is. Fans of whetherspoons this is a must! Usual prices and drinks and food. Quieter than the Great Western around the corner too.
K. M.
Visited on a busy Saturday evening following attendance at an event held in the principality stadium. Long wait to be served owing to the number of customers. Great selection of drinks including guest ales and beers.
s. j.
A good wetherspoons pub. Its large and always busy due to a good location in Cardiff. The food is good. On a rugby day the pub is bonkers busy but they are well organised so getting served doesnt take too long. Enthralled of toilets upstairs and downstairs.
j. h.
Service was quick ordered on the app food was quick
K. W.
Always a great favorite.....food and drinks were great value, felt comfortable with the restrictions in place
L. S.
The nicest doorstaff I've ever come across.
Sat outside when a group of young girls and a lad came in. All asked for id (and rightly so) the lad was sick outside. So refused entry. But the staff instead of being rude, got him tissues and gum to help clean himself before sending him on his way. Well done 👍👍
T.
Food came quickly, table was clean. Toilets also very clean, although we visited at 1pm on a Tuesday.... I find it a bit dark in there but still a lovely old building and obviously nice cheap food/booze!
R. M.
Pretty decent Wetherspoons in central Cardiff, especially after the recent renovation. Much cheaper than visiting other venues in Cardiff Bay etc, but it can get incredibly busy so seating is often scarce in the evenings and weekends.
R. S.
Good atmosphere, great food and drink
M. D.
Really liked this place, nice atmosphere, was quite busy but it was a Saturday evening. Good prices and a well stocked bar. The staff seemed very friendly.
S. L.
Lots of seating and normal fare for a Weatherspoons pub. Service was very slow for food. I was not informed that they did not have all the fresh fruit for a dessert and it was brought with only a banana and apples. Not as described so promptly returned.
A. R.
Just a great place to eat, drink and be merry. I love it!
S. M.
Normal large city centre Wetherspoons pub. If you are familiar with the chain you know what to expect. City centre location. Big pub and can get very busy at times. Very close to Central Station, rugby ground and shopping area. Low prices for city centre as usual with this chain. Not a place to spend the evening but good place to meet before moving on or to call in on a night out.
G. S. (.
Food and drink good for the price and the building is an old converted theatre and is gorgeous inside. However, everytime I go I'm accosted by a man asking me if I want to buy tobacco, he never remembers i dont smoke it and just bothers me everytime, he literally asks me every time I've gone there every week for over a year. Staff don't care, but hey, it's Wetherspoons so I guess it goes with the territory.
A. K.
I'd heard this was a good pub so I had to try it. Only we picked the wrong day to go in. It was match day so absolutely packed out! It would have took the length of the match to get served at the bar so decided to go somewhere else. Will try it again another day.
K. T.
Poor policy after football match. I went there to get some food with my six foot 17 teen year old grandson and I was refused admission by the doorman. They were happy to take our. money before the match.
I. O.
It is what it is on a quiet Wednesday night. Cheap beer on the way home. I had a decent pale ale from Boss Brewery specially for the Rugby World Cup. Job done!
K. L.
Quick service, hot and lovely food, friendly staff and clean.
W. W.
A great breakfast. They'd run out of brown sauce but found some when I asked.
H. B.
Lovely pint and a rum with the better half in nice surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere
L.
It is what it is. Probs one of the nicer spoons in the city. Expect nothing, and you'll never be disappointed, sometimes you'll even be pleasantly surprised
D.
We weren't able to get a seet in there which was disappointing
N. R.
Visited here yesterday 21st April, first impressions of the place were awful! The barmaid who dealt with our order had such attitude , tall girl blonde hair , too much contouring!!! She didn't have a name badge on but everyone else did . Everything was such an effort , no customer skills, disinterested, and generallyrude.
There was also a guy who looked like the supervisor he and scruffy , shirt hanging out with boxers on show, no enthusiasm and was watching him wipe tables and he put the crumbs and food debris in his waiters pouch / apron! Not very hygenic yak!The drinks were nice and reasonable and chilled out place to sit but apart from that nothing going for it .

Always been one of my favourite places in Cardiff to have a drink.
Excellent atmosphere. Very decently priced drinks. Friendly bar staff. Perfect location..the list goes on!

Food delivered at different times and were not too hot. My daughter had the pizza which she said was lovely. My husband and I probably had about 20 chips between us lucky we had some sides

This place used to be a theatre, good ambience and friendly atmosphere. Decor is fairly good and lots of seating and tables. Friendly staff & as usual with every JDW, Cheap prices. Fourth star is for the great staff otherwise it,d be a three.

Wasnt too bad but they ran out of all their sugar free drinks, wouldn't go minded but I'm diabetic and cant drink sugary drinks so had to stick with water which isn't what you want when you go somewhere to meet friends.

Great place to drink but they put the price of a pint upto 3.99 when we went as Wales were playing Tonga at the Principality. Plainly just ripping people off which I thought was nasty of Mr Wetherspoon.

Nice food and friendly staff. Nice and relaxing place. The Wetherspoons app is great for ordering food and drinks. Just put table number in and they bring it straight to you. Great!

Spacious, busy pub. However tables are left full of plates and glasses at busy times. Food is pretty good value for money. Service is quick and efficient.
