This is a wonderful pub, the staff are very welcoming. I have been with a large group of colleagues, they served up a delicious buffet, it is in an outdoor room. There is a good sized beer garden, and unusual beers and ales. We'll worth going.

Has had slight revamp of the bar since I was last in, and some new seating outside,which is easier for me to manage than the benches that they used to have on one side. Plenty of outside space, both covered and open, good selection of real ales and spirits and friendly staff. Also two rooms inside so plenty of seating areas

Lovely little 'proper' pub, the landlady is adorable and the staff are really friendly. Had roast lunch there yesterday and it was spectacular! The roast beef was melt in your mouth, the roast potatoes are possibly the best i've ever had, the gravy, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and carrots were delicious and the yorkshire pud was cooked to order and fabulous. I'll be back, with friends and family!

A gem of a pub tucked away just out of town, and unlike the Ale House and Fat Cat, it's open in the day. Good selection of ales and craft beers, and the staff are welcoming.

A good local it has always been. But first time having a meal there is a while. Brilliant pie and mash! And genuinely the best pint I've had in months, from a brewery I've never heard of. Cheers Liam & Lisa doing a cracking job! A local to be proud of!

Friendly pub although short on alcohol free beer when we went. This was a shame for the designated driver in our group. I'm sure next time their stocks will be higher and look forward to our next visit.

The new management are friendly and helpful, the food is very good and reasonably priced and the atmosphere is convivial as well. They have a log burning stove which keeps the place really warm. They have just started making Sunday Lunches again which I have yet to try, but given the standard of the meals that I have had, I am sure will be excellent. Give it a try, I think that you will like it.

Great pub with a fantastic selection of beers. They frequently do brewery takeovers and its always reasonably priced. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the staff are friendly and the food is really good. Their Sunday roasts are worth booking a table for. Their beer garden is great even if a little small. Although this pub is off the high street it is definitely worth going to. Won CAMRA best pub of Colchester 2018

Wonderfully cosy pub tucked away nicely from the main roads of traffic hell around Colchester town centre. Lovely wood burner welcomed me in on a cold, post Christmas Day and the staff were very welcoming too. Good range of ales, and lagers and was very quiet when I went in there in the Christmas holiday period so can't judge what it's like when it's busy.

Absolutely the best place to have a drink in Colchester - the landlady and landlord, as well as all the staff are so welcoming - as are the regulars. I think it's hands down the best community pub - has regular takeovers - and is just a great place for a pint or Sunday lunch - which is really good value - love it

Nice food but marred by poor bar staff. Slow at serving, and without enough memory to take an order for four roast lunches without repeated reminders from the customer. They also messed up the bill and phoned us once we'd left to ask us to come back and make up for their mistake. We obliged out of good will. However, the landlord/chef was excellent and made most of the visit right. Some notable heating in the premises would be nice though. The feeble wood burner would struggle to ignite petroleum.

Group of us went on sunday and it was awesome!! The roast was very good. All had something different and nobody was disappointed! The vegan roast was fantastic, the nut roast, delicious. Fantastic atmosphere and dog friendly a true hidden jem. Highly recommended

When a place has publicans who are as warm and friendly as Joe and Shannon there is no way you wouldn't keep going back. We don't go out often but this place is top of our list every time. Its definatly my favourite pub find of 2016...and with a monthly reason to be there I'm even happier!

I've literally just moved to Colchester & this lovely old public house is a neighbour of mine!! I popped in with my parents for a quick coke whilst in the middle of moving from Thurrock to Colchester. There's a lovely wood oven fire & the pub has a lot of charm about itself. First time in this pub. The guy behind the bar was very welcoming and helpful. The beer was kept well and lovely. The bartender said they change beers regularly which is a good sign. Nice beer garden that's very quiet even though its near a main road. Would definitely come back and planning on doing so.
