I had a great dinner experience at the rose and crown. Never been before but was pleasantly surprised at how nice the food was considering it's from a pub chain. Didn't taste like it was from the freezer, drinks were fairly priced and service was impeccable. Couldn't fault it at all

Superb breakfast, served every day from 8am. Lovely friendly staff. Outdoor seating area on the quayside if you enjoy the sunshine. When it’s too hot, inside the pub it’s cool and shady. I’ve just had the perfect Sunday morning: 8 o’clock Holy Communion at St Mary’s, full English breakfast at The Rose & Crown and a stroll along the riverside before it gets too warm! Wivenhoe is wonderful.

Great pub in a beautiful setting. The food we ordered was lovely and we didn't have to wait long until one of the friendly members of staff brought it to our table, it was piping hot and presentation on the plate was great. Lovely food served every time. Friendly staff, many are happy to chat. My friends and I take our dogs there all the time and they are welcomed with as much enthusiasm and care as any human that walks through the door. It the hot weather we have even had a bowl of water brought straight to our table for the dogs to drink.

Eaten at the pub a few times recently. The food was very good. There seems to be a shortage of staff. The chef needs more support as on both occasions he was also waiting the tables by bringing out meals therefore increasing the amount of time people had to wait for their food. The chef should be able to concentrate fully on the kitchen not front of house too. The staff were very friendly.

Brilliant view of the river when we sat outside for a drink but that's all I'd recommend you do here. Booked a table inside to eat and we was in the middle table...literally for the whole meal we had people queuing around our table as we was quite close to the bar. It really ruined the atmosphere. One of the bar staff was quite rude but the other guy was very polite. Food was actually really nice. But bar staff was either slow or just couldn't cope with the volume. This ruined what could have been a good experience!

Met friends here in the beer garden at the front of the pub, it's a beautiful view over the estuary, very peaceful. We ordered food for the five of us. Very accommodating for one of our group who had teeth problems, however my dish did not come. The young girl who brought the other dishes thought it was "coming soon". It didn't and it was only when the manager (I think he was) came to do a check if all was ok that he realised it had been omitted in error. Quite quickly I received it and it was very tasty (chicken and lemon tacos). The young girl should really have checked, but everything else was fine

Great little pub right on the quay. Perfect place to watch the world go by as you enjoy some nice food and refreshing drinks. Staff were very friendly and helpful too. Think dad might be frequenting more offten for a pint of London Glory and an eton mess sundae 😊

Had a lovely walk along Wivenhoe Quay and discovered this little jem of a pub, the rose and crown. Its a green king pub and I have to say its one of the better ones. The staff were warm friendly and welcoming. The food was nice and served in a timely manner. Overall a great experience and would recommend if your down in Wivenhoe and fancy some nuce food by the water.

Very nice little pub right on the quayside at Wivenhoe. Nice big screen to watch sports on. Seating indoors by the bar and outdoors at the front overlooking the quayside with all the boats and water. Probably looks really lovely out there on a bright sunny day with a nice drink in hand. Nice comprehensive food menu with light bites, sharing platters and traditional pub grub. Friendly staff with good service and the pub is Covid-19 aware and compliant. We might return during our short stay for another pint and a bite to eat! 🙂

The location of the pub is excellent, with a terraced area which is in beside the River Colne. Due to Covid restrictions, customers in the terraced area could only be served if they had an app on their mobile phone. Since I do not have a mobile phone the best aspect of the pub was unavailable (so I drank inside). Beers are served at a price premium, reflecting the excellent location, so I paid more but didn't get the benefits of that location.

Been coming here for the last 20 years. Lost its appeal. Outside seating area used to be very relaxed. Not so now. Never enough staff at busy times. With its location on the creek the place should be a gold mine. Greene King don't know what they are missing.

Came recently to the quiz on Thursday night we had so much fun, chippy the quiz master is hilarious and the pub was packed. The staff were great and table service was quick especially as the pub was busy. The food was really nice too

Our local. Best thing about this pub is definitely the seating area by the river. Get a drink at the pub and fish and chips from the Chinese snack bar and sit outside in the sun. Bliss.

Nice pub over looking the river Colne. Fantastic position and very friendly staff. We had a light lunch which was generally good, albeit, in my opinion, a little over priced. My only real criticism was the salad not really edible as it was a past it (leaves limp and slightly off, tomatoes dried out and oxidising). Overall I would definitely recommend a visit if passing.

Old pub with character. The Rose and Crown is right on the waterfront at Wivenhoe. There are boats and yachts moored just outside, and the pub has outside tables on the quay, so this is a very popular place in both summer and winter. Inside, the floor is wooden planks and there are many tables for drinking & chatting - or eating, of course. There is a selection of premium lagers, craft beers and real ales, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is good, and includes various burgers, fish burger (very nice), scampi, salads, lasagne, etc. The prices are reasonable. This pub is happy for well behaved dogs to come inside, and they always put a water bowl outside for customers' or passing dogs. There are two entrances, one of which is wheelchair friendly. Inside, the space is a bit tight so not brilliant for wheelchair users but I feel sure the staff would try to make more space if the pub wasn't too busy. The pub has a cosy, friendly feel, and is popular all year round. I love it.

I do wish eating establishments would ban smoking from outside eating areas though, especially when there is adequate space to the front of the premises. That's what spoiled it for me, I don't enjoy having a side dish of cigarette smoke when I'm eating.

Stopped for a light lunch in the middle of an 8 mile walk. Food and drink nice BUT we couldn't sit outside as the area was full of cigarette ends and other rubbish. Why hadn't it been swept? In the ladies the replacement toilet roll was high up on the window sill. Why hadn't it been put in? The soap dispensers were empty. Why not filled? The staff behind the bar had plenty of time to show each other stuff on their phones. It's details like this that matter to us, all these could have been sorted in a few minutes.

Visited for a day trip on 14 August. It was a very busy day but a member of staff explained to us that they were extremely short staffed, which was understandable. Food from the “new menu” was delicious and the deals are great value. A big thanks to everyone at Rose and Crown for making our visit thoroughly enjoyable and working during what must have been a very stressful time.

Booked online and stated window seat was loved by our toddler. When we got there we were met by friendly staff and we had been given the window seat! Made my toddlers day as they could look out at the dogs and boats. Food was timely and delicious. Children's meal excellent size and was offered crayons and colouring sheet which was kind. Overall excellent experience and well in line with covid regulations. 1 in 1 out in the toilet with clear signs so you can tell if it's engaged or not on the main door to the toilet. Will definitely be going again!

Nice-ish pub that relies a lot on it's location. It's been refurbished lately and is certainly improved by the makeover. The beer is a bit of a letdown as it's an Abbot pub, but hey-ho. Staff are okay, but I think they just do it for the money. Good place to go on a pleasant summer evening and sit by the river.

On a sunny day this is a wonderful pub to stop for a drink or meal. It has tables outside on the river front and the view is great. The menu caters for all tastes and the meals are very tasty! Very popular with cyclists and walkers as it is at the beginning/end of the Wivenhoe Trail. Highly recommended.

I have a soft spot for this pub. The outside space in the summer is excellent. We enjoy going there for lunch at the weekend from time to time. The food isn't amazing but it's reasonably priced and does the job.

I had a pleasant enough meal, although the veg could of been cooked more evenly! The only gripe was that there were some very rowdy people there and they spoilt the evening for everyone else. Why the staff didnt ask them to quieten down I dont know

Really nice pub, its had a lick of paint which has really smartened it up. Such a shame they've taken Sky Sports from there as there are no pubs showing the football in Wivenhoe anymore. The TV screen was unobtrusive but apparently the license was too expensive, but considering the pub is rammed in the summer months as the river attracts the customers I think it would have been nice to have given a little back to the community in the winter months!

I had lunch there recently. It was full and had brisk friendly service. The menu was varied and food arrived quickly in spite of the crowd. Nicely presented, good value and tasty. I can recommend this pub, great location.

The refit has dramatically changed this place, it used to look dark, even on a sunny day, not now, it looks great. I love the open fire on a cold day and like the constant offering of guest beers. The menu has also been revamped and the pulled pork burger is lovely, not to mention well priced. The landlady, always comes out and says hello and never fails to make our dogs feel welcome. They have a retro games night on a Tuesday which brightens up an otherwise dull evening. We recently held a wake here for my late dad and the guests all remarked on how good the buffet was. Glad to have the pub in Wivenhoe, long may the improvements continue.

have been here few times for food.. drove long way to get there to.. sadly went Monday for dinner.. there's was group of people playing cards.. all one of them did was swear and shout.. u couldn't even hear yourself talk to each other.. even woman on another table kept looking at them.. there was old people in the pub to.. DISCUSSTING behavior.. not sure wd go back.. put us off.. no need for swearing 🤬.. shame cause its lovely pub.. food is great.. I did report it to member staff.. but doute she said anything to them.. as think she knew them.. as sat had her dinner break with them

Only downsides are 1) gets very busy during the summer when the weather is good so you may have a long wait to get served/get a table 2) you can often wait up to an hour from ordering for food to arrive, not great if you're short on time, but if you're in know hurry worth the wait...
