Found this Slug & Lettuce located down the end of the High Street; walking distance from the Town Railway Station. Both the outside and inside decor was the standard traditional uniformed Slug & Lettuce design. Having entered it soon became apparent that it could do with a spruce up, some TLC... Signs of ware and tear were clearly showing; seating fabric worn and ripped and the ladies toilets... well good luck if you find one with a working lock. The ladies toilets were slightly dirty with toilet roll on the floor instead of in a holder; would expect better from a Slug & Lettuce. * Beware when using the ladies, the stairs down are rather steep. So, food and drink, the Cocktails were spot on.. and the Feast with Friends Sharer was lovely, certainly worth the money, £13.99. Having not had 'shredded shawarma chicken' previously, we wasn't sure what to expect; I found it a little too spicy personally (although I am not a spice fan) therefore I would skip this topping next time. The staff.. there appeared to be a number of staff milling about. The place was not busy, therefore; surprised that tables were not tidied or cleaned, instead the staff just stood talking to each other, trying new cocktails and the vacated tables were left with plates/remains just sat there. Overall... lovely food and drink, worth a visit.

National shortage on Margherita Arancini & Panko-crumb Calamari sticks. But, it's that's just me being petty. This branch of Slug & Lettuce, looks stunning, beautiful deco and a mission to the men's toilets. There is an upper bar area not the same area space as the lower floor. I had food: (Personal Food judgement:) Good Food, Drinks and Dessert menu. I had Salmon skewers and Fish & Chips (yeah I know - why fish & fish), go back to start of the review! Amstel was crisp and tasted good :) Great place to drink and eat, great for families.

Good food for a good price. Staff was very nice, and they double checked the order before payment which was professional. Toilets were a bit of a walk but not the worst. Depending on the time of day it can get quick busy so avoid peak times.

Had a very warm welcome from two fantastic and high-in-energy barmaids Rosie and Gyan who provided us the best service and are certainly assets to the business. To top this, they made us aware of an all-day-all-night 2-4-1 cocktails which were delicious. We had the Chicken Feast and the Vegan Moving Mountain Burger which was scrumptious. I will definitely be coming back for certain and would highly recommend this restaurant/bar.

Great cocktails and good 2 for 1 deal for whole night even on a Saturday. Stay clear of Resting Peach face though. Revolting lol had an issue with one of the drinks as we ordered 2 and 1 was distinctly paler than the other and the flavour was diluted. Asked them to take out some of the ice and top up but it was still really diluted. Asked again and was told it tastes the same. Only for them then to admit they'd run out of blue Curacao. Bit frustrating.

Good food, tables well situated apart for social distancing. Staff could polish their customer service skills. We were advised on entry that we had to order via the app. It took approximately 25min for us to get into the app and in that time not one member of staff asked us if we needed assistance or offered to help us. They were not busy and there were only 4 other tables that had people to whom the staff were attending and taking orders!?! The 4 stars is based on the establishment and the food quality definitely not the service.

Lovely place feel the manager was under pressure as had some staff that seemed uninterested in doing there job and helping out with big groups but she done well. there was one girl working behind the bar that was really lovely and done a great job, the food was nice and as we went there for part of a hen do the cocktails went down well and we all had a good laugh great icebreaker place 😊.

The place is lovely. Decor and style and class. They do have a kids menu and highchairs so suitable for families. The prices ok. About right in the current climate. Choices ok. Shame the mac n cheese was only available in vegan or that would have been sold to me. The food arrived fairly prompt but was warm. The kids food was hot the adults was barely warm. The fancy fries weren't all they cracked up to be. Food was just mediocre but edible.

We hired out the function room upstairs today for my baby shower and it was absolutely brilliant. The organisation was fantastic, hardly anything for us to do when we got there other than put up our own decorations. We had Georgina upstairs with us the whole time and she was one step ahead of everything we could have wanted - can’t thank her enough for how amazing she was all day. Went in there today with the Maldon Pioneers as I'm a member of the Maldon pioneers and the staff were very polite and friendly and I had a southern fried chicken wrap with chips and coca cola compliments to the chef and the staff were very happy and I would highly recommend going there they have a lunch deal menu from £6 that doesn't include a drink but it is not expensive in there 🙂

Amazing time the other day on Friday, great service from Louise she was a star, nice happy personality and very attentive. The other staff Gyan, Harry, Roz, Charlotte, Jos, Adam, Aiidan, Fahad, Matthew, Sam and Joy were also great and seemed to work together well as a team which was surprising as found out from Louise most are new staff. Will be going back. Service a little slow but was expected as place was pretty busy.

I really like it here. Great cheap lunch options, served quickly. Decent drinks prices, nice setting, and polite service. Salsa clubs etc held in events room upstairs, which is also available for private events. Saturday night turns into a mini little rave with music from the naughties - good choice for drunken millennials!

The toliets were clean and also nicely decorated. The only slightly annoying thing was that my table was wobbly which made my drink spill. Been to the Slug multiple times, it can have mixed service depending what time you go. You can arrive gone 7 or 8 and still get food but we had to chase someone down to wipe the tables and to order our drinks etc. Great food and fantastic cocktails! It becomes a club at night so can be quite noisy in the evening so if you want a more quiet meal come before 6. It's a good relaxed environment, great for a chilled out meal. Toilets can be a bit hit and miss, the ladies only has 3 loos so on a Saturday night by a certain point there can only be one with loo roll. Don't come here expecting a restaurant environment, it's definately more of a pub/club.
