We have visited the Britannia a number of times. Great value for money and fantastic staff. They always go out of their way for you. It’s a set menu and they come over and ask if there’s are any allergies and if anyone is vegetarian. They then tell you what is on the menu. If you want seconds or more of anything it’s never a problem. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. We have been on our own as a couple and with the family. The kids love it and the staff are always friendly and engaging with them. Tonight we ordered a takeaway for the first time. Which was fantastic. Loads of flavour and portions were a good size. On another note the ‘Golden Everest’ lager beer is the best.

Visited tonight and I can only say - wow. Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere. So welcoming, and the whole set menu concept is wonderfully relaxing - you don't have to agonise over a menu choice, simply enjoy what they put in front of you! Portions were ample, and we were offered more if we wanted. Staff were delightful and service was super quick! We could not have felt more welcome. We will be back!

We ate here and it was very good. If you like mild but flavoursome curry (IE 90% of the UK) then you'll like this, reminds me a really good quality homemade Curry's. Its a set price for a three course meal and you can have as much of the main dishes as you like. Dessert was a very english sponge cake and custard which was an unexpected treat. The bar side itself is a contrast being a loud local boozer. No ale though but that's usual in places with spicy food as the smell can taint the beer.

As always the food was top class. The staff are friendly. And it is a set menu and is only £20 per person. Great value for money.

Always a set menu, though the main dishes can be lamb, beef, chicken or goat. There is always a dish of dhal and one of vegetables. Customers can specify if they would prefer just a vegetarian menu or just one of the meat options. The price is a set one also, which makes everything very straightforward. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Some have been there since the Ghurka restaurant started. As well as lager there is always a well kept draught beer on. You can just have a drink in the pub side of the Ghurka if you wish, or in the courtyard or garden. There is a large car park at the side of the restaurant. If necessary you may be able to access the pub and restaurant through the courtyard gates, but check first. There are quite deep steps up to the doors, though there are railings on either side of the steps up to the restaurant if you choose to enter from outside rather than the pub

OMG I walked my daughter's two terrier dogs as she was in hospital. On the way back I popped into this Pub which is dog friendly. DEFINITELY the best pint of beer I have tasted outside of Durham!!! Nice atmosphere good barman!!

Great customer service, the staff are very friendly. What's unique about this restaurant is they have one set meal per day, so there is no menu to choose from, however, they were happy to make dietary changes where necessary. Its a great idea and well implemented.

Absolutely fantastic! We went here just after they reopened for dinner and the staff were brilliant and couldn’t have been more welcoming! The food is delicious, love that the menu changes daily and they will keep bringing more out until you have had enough! Lovely little garden out the back where we enjoyed a drink. Our first time eating at the Britannia Gurkha. We've known about the restaurant and had been meaning to try for some time. I'm glad we did. The staff were welcoming and attentive, asking if either of us were vegetarian or vegan. You basically eat what is cooked - no menu as such. While our starter was vegetarian the main consisted of two vegetarian curry's, chicken and goat curry, a dahl and rice and bread. All very tasty, and very generous for two. I just about managed the desert. The Nepalese beer went down nicely - but be warned - it's a large bottle so make sure you're thirsty. We ate on a Friday evening. It wasn't busy but these are strange times and it should be busier. A relaxed and tasty meal - we'll be heading back.

No menu at this Gurkha restaurant - starters, a range of curries, bread, rice, and a dessert for £18pp. All.delicious. Dietary requirements can be managed by the chef. Friendly staff. Good bar and there is a free pub car park next door (unlit).

I can't say enough good things about this place. There's no menu, either veggie or non-veggie. The food is awesome. They do takeaways also, but if recommend eating in if you can. This is the first place I will go eat out at once or lockdowns are released!

Food is great and very interesting. Good price too. Really enjoyed the goat curry, not so much of a fan of the strange sponge dessert. Furniture is a bit worn and my chair was nearly collapsing. Toilets are presentable enough.

Excellent restaurant! Very different to all others - there's no menu! And we're loving it! You simply come in and sit down and the food is served! First class curry! Excellent food in a cosy environment. The menu is set based on what the chef is cooking that day, however with notice they are able to accommodate dietary requirements such as vegan and vegetarian. On the day I visited as part of a group, there was Lamb curry and chicken curry which were both delicious and aromatic without being spicy. Table service was faultless, nothing was too much trouble, highly recommended.

A little different as there’s no menu for the food, but what was served was the best meal I’ve had since Monty’s on North Hill many many years ago, if you love curry’s and Asian food you won’t be disappointed! Thanks so much to the staff for your hospitality, we will defiantly be back for more. The Everest beer and the South African Shiraz I can recommend too, the whole experience was outstanding!!!

We had a very good night the atmosphere was good and the food was better. It’s a bit odd going somewhere without a menu but what we got was great. If you’ve not been give it a go and the best bit is it’s a local pub so you’re guaranteed a good night once you’ve had your meal.

Privileged to experience this wonderful place. Unusual that there is no menu, but that means they can concentrate on one set of courses. You get what they are cooking that day. Today it was 4 courses & it was really tasty. Very attentive service & the Gurkha beer is very clean tasting. All at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended.

Britannia Gurkha is a typical Nepalese restaurant just outside the town centre. I went there for dinner (I am not sure it's open for lunch) and that was my first time with this cusine. They were very kind and the service was fast, tables were clean. There is a set menu, with some typical thin bread made of potatoes as a starter. Then some lamb and potatoes, and I've to say the meat was very good. After that, some chicken curry, lentil soup, beef and vegetables served with steamed rice and another type of delicious bread. Everything was very good! Finally, a chocolate cake as dessert. I also tried their Gurkha beer, which I found to be very particular and tasteful. I highly recommend the Britannia Gurkha!

It was nice not to have to look through a vast menu you were given what the chef had cooked which in our case, for main course, was lamb, chicken, veg dish, lentils and naan bread and you could have more of any of the said dishes. Turn up sit down. No menu, you just get asked are you vegetarian, yes or no? Then they tell you what they have prepared for today and bring it out. Starters and mains and dessert for £15 a head. The food is fantastic the service is great, highly recommend the Gurkha beer as well. Once you are finished they will ask you if you would like more! Lovely experience, I would stay away if you are a fussy eater though as you are not going to get a choice!

This has to be the best kept secret in Colchester. Visited as a family of four on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. There is a great feel to the Gurkha and the food is faultless and comes wonderfully presented. There is a consant flow of food until you have had enough and the Gurkha beer is fab too. The proprietor and staff are first rate and the cost is incredibly good value for money. Will be back on a regular basis.
