Reviews of The Magnet Pub

A light, airy pub for drinking some different craft ales and beers. They don't really do any food, but there is a chip shop next door and they are happy for you to bring it in and eat while you have some drinks. I guess the only pain is location... its a fair bit of a walk from town although I'd imagine it's a great location if heading home back to the train station!

Well kept (regularly changing) cask ales. Even had one with Sabro hops in which is rare.
A nice bonus is that St Botolph's brewery beers are sold here too (the brewery is in the Colchester area)these are well worth a try.
A nice range of craft beers in can and bottle are also available.
Bar snacks and whiskeys available.
A physical beer list on every table which is a nice touch.
Comfortable, clean, nice mix of modern and classic pub styles. Really friendly staff. Good prices.
Short walk from Colchester mainline Station. Town centre and Colchester Town Station is just a few mins further, in the opposite direction up the hill.

Lovely small pub, 5 minute walk from Colchester station. It may be considered a ‘micro’ pub but there is plenty of seating both indoors and out. The cask lines generally offer beers from local Colchester Brewery, lager offer is Krombacher and there are rotating keg offerings too. Staff a friendly and welcoming, fish & chips next door which can be eaten in

Great conversion from the old pub to this new micro pub. Excellent choice of ales and craft beers, well decorated and beer garden for those wanting fresh air. Highly recommended.

Lovely little pub that is a real refreshing change for Colchester. Fairly simple bright decor with white walls and wooden benches, very welcoming. Really good line of beers in the pub and very pleasant atmosphere. We'll worth the visit, I will certainly be back there.

Pleasant, modern reconditioning of an old pub. Combi of minimalist decor with the small rooms of old, but now open plan. And a sunny beer garden at rear. Good selection of independent beers as well as some mas market ones, but for people on a gluten free diet out of necessity, they only have a choice of one (which is a nice, canned one) - shame they can't offer at least two.

Good beer. The barman (ignored me when I came in. And ignored me as I left even though I spoke to him) was only interested in a few of his locals. I suspect there will not be many returning customers (first time users). The bar man let's the place down

Good ale choices, well kept ale and friendly staff. Interesting choice of spirits too. There was a good atmosphere and the terrace catches the late afternoon sun 👍.

Great place to go to, nice bar staff and atmosphere.
Only reason for 4 star is no parking.

Love what they have done with the place, but they need a bigger cellar as on 2 occasions I've been they have run out of real ale 😥. They can have 3 real ale on. What beers they have had on have been excellent! Will be back, but will have a backup plan just in case. Lots of other choice and loads of Essex spirits in stock.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff, lovely atmosphere and INCREDIBLE selection of local beers. The cherry wheat beer is to die for, but it's well worth having a chat with the staff to talk through what's available.
These guys are passionate about what they do and it shows. Can't rate this place highly enough.

I came here for the first time since it reopened as a micro-pub, having last been here for drinks immediately prior to a Colchester United match (when it was The Norfolk). I wasn't sure what to expect, but had hoped for a wider choice of beers. We sat outside and drank our pint as Sixth Form College students trudged home via Colchester North Station. The ale was pleasant and in good condition.

Good to meet Robert again after 40 years, we grew up and went to Primary School in Marks Tey.
Good & Different selection of drinks on offer.
Courtyard in the sun is a bonus to have.

A terrific little pub with a very good range of draught and keg beers, many from Colchester Brewery, all kept well.
Pleasant outdoor area.

Very pleasant atmosphere, especially if the weather enables the outside terrace to be used. The range of beers available is moderate but all are good ones.
