Generally very good service 👍 the only thing was the lamb chop wasn't cooked very good and unbeknowing to them it wasn't a very good piece saying that they did offer to change it but you never like eating on your own when everyone has finished. They did give us all a free dessert which was very nice. The salad with the portion could have been better but overall not to bad an experience.

Really amazing food and service. Had the beef roast dinner was amazing! They ask whether you want the beef pink or not which i always think is good. Warning when they say pink it is VERY pink which was fine for me but I know some people might be a bit out off by that.

Wow! I had the sticky beef starter which was beautiful, and for the main I ordered ham egg and chips which I thought couldn’t top the starter but that juicy mouthwatering perfect slab of ham said otherwise with perfectly prepared eggs. Then to top it off the honeycomb sundae which although I was full from the generous portion sizes still got demolished. This was topped by amazing customer service and a more than reasonable price. I will be going again very soon.

We have had a couple of meals here and they food is always well presented and tasty. The drinks, of which there are many to choose from are also very good too and there is a nice atmosphere in the place, music just right and type of music is excellent too.

Great food. Well presented. Friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Fantastic decor, a great place to bring friends and family. Also an extensive selection of all types of drinks and knowledgeable bar staff. Good outside seating with a soon to open decking area that can be used all year for alfresco dining. Honestly I love the house of darwin. The atmosphere is amazing if your going for a date or even if your just going with a group of friends. Our food was amazing. First Sunday dinner I have had there and it was gorgeous. Not the first time I have been there though all the other times I have been the food was also amazing. Our server tonight (Chelsea) was amazing and very attentive and so where the rest of the staff. Just all around an absolute amazing time and an amazing meal.

Love it here! The food is fantastic, reasonably priced, much better than your usual "pub grub". Try the nachos, they're awesome. Drinks are reasonably priced too, friendly staff and great garden area. Dogs are also allowed in too!

I treated my friend and her sister (Birthday treat) to a Sunday dinner today (19/09/2021). I have been to the House of Darwin before (always traditionally known as The Golden Pheasant) and I knew it would be a top quality Sunday dinner. From the moment I entered we were treated like VIP.'s. We Promptly received drinks and were given a respectful time to decide on choosing the meals. We ordered the Sunday menu because of my prior experience of the quality of this particular menu and other menus. We ordered roast chicken, beef and pork. All three meals were 1st class and there was nothing left on the plate at all after the meal, need I say more! Normally I find chicken a little dry but not here, succulent and beautifully seasoned and all 3 meals beautifully cooked. Do not get me wrong, if you want the cheapest Sunday dinner then go for a dry carvery on a hot plate at the average pub but pay extra and try class. Worth paying extra for quality food and surroundings you are worth it!. Also thanks for Chloe for her personal touch. Thanks also to the chefs. Personal touch. Recommend any time, treat yourself you are worth it!

Highly recommend this place, interior decor is very crafty and aesthetically pleasing. Great food let down by really poor service. We booked a table for 15.30. Got there, ordered our food, food was served and then the staff just seemed to forget about us! Empty plates sat on our table for ages before they were cleared. No-one came to see if we wanted desserts or more drinks. A real shame because the food and the place is fabulous. Perhaps it was just a one-off bad night? Will try again (second chances and all that) but the service really does need to be better next time.

Not much in your plate for the high price you pay. 2 course meal and 2 drinks and left hungry, stopped off at mcdonald's to get rid of the hunger. Don't get me wrong the food was spot on!!! Service is good. Food is far above other pub standards. Well that was 3 years ago. Tried the 3 course's for £25 last night, 7 Jan 2022, good start mushrooms with sourdough toast, then it all turned a bit silly. This is 6 at night, and there is only 1 pie? Told Iain and he just laughed. Then no salted caramel ice cream. I think I will go somewhere else next time.

Went for my birthday meal with the family on a busy Friday night. We had a 20 minute wait for a table but we were shown to the bar area and got some drinks. The staff were really friendly, the food was great and the portions were ample. My only minor criticism is that it wasn't very clear what items were available on the 3 course set menu and there weren't many "traditional favourites" on the kids menu. All in all though we had a great time and will definitely go back.

Excellent atmosphere, good range of beers (guest ales on tap). Recently noticed an outside bar with plenty of seating around with parasols. The décor inside is beautifully done and very thoughtful and homely - twigs, branches and lights weave through a canopy above you in areas where the rest of the main part is wooden with a rustic feel... Playing Jazz made it very relaxing. The food was outstanding too!!! Would highly recommend going and look forward to returning back there myself with friends.

Fantastic food, but sadly let down by dreadful service! Waited almost an hour for our food, was seated at an awful table under the stairs in a walk way. Customers rammed in, sat on tables next to each other, with no social distancing between tables. But they insisted on you wearing a mask to walk 10ft through a restaurant (with everyone rammed in) to then take your mask off at the table 🙄

I think it's overpriced for what they do. They charge premium prices but the service is no more than your average good pub. They've decorated and made it look fancy and I think that's where the justification for prices come. If they were 15 to 20% cheaper I think it would be a fair price. For a meal at about £20+ per person with a drink I'd expect a more fine dining atmosphere.

We use the Darwin regularly, for drinking for quizzes and for food. I understand that since Covid, the menu may be reduced and I also understand that the previous management have left, however I don't understand how the staff haven't been trained in a basic understanding of service etiquette. Last week a friend and I came for food which was, to be fair, fine, however as we were eating our starters our mains were brought out before we had even finished them. We mentioned this and after being sent back the mains reappeared again, not fresh but the original kept warm on the hot plate. So we had starters and lukewarm mains on our table at the same time. Were we being rushed or are you not training your staff. Shame because we won't hurry back

Food was excellent let down badly by service. I booked a table for six persons two days prior to our meal, I also confirmed attendance via the reminder email. Upon arrival we were told they did not have a table for six but had a table that was obviously for four persons pointed out with the promising words "we have managed six on there before" We were then offered a table outside, this was not ideal but better than the four person table. Outside we were met by a very narrow table and thin bench seats. Certainly suitable for drinks and snacks but not a comfortable meal. With no other option we had to sit there. The service at the start of the meal was very poor, having to wait 50 minutes for our meal order to be taken, and then it was only taken by me getting up and disturbing the waitress who was talking to her friend over the balcony where she had been a good five minutes despite me trying to catch her eye for service. House of Darwin has obviously had problems with people not paying whilst sitting outside, we were requested to pay at every step of the meal, drinks, starters and main... not a nice thing to be untrusted and I hope they can find a better way to manage this. The food I have to say was exceptional and my hat off to the chefs. It was superbly cooked and presented, I cannot recommend the food highly enough, however the entire experience was marred by the lack of a comfortable table and poor service. We would have loved to stay and sample the desert menu but every single one of us was uncomfortable and could sit there no longer. This is my fourth meal at House of Darwin every other one has been without fault. I am aware of covid and the strains this puts on businesses, but if you dont have a comfortable table for six then dont allow one to be booked. I post this on the hope it will improve service for future patrons, i will not be returning so quickly but do hope service and payment methods are improved for everyones benefit.

Had a lovely time with my family at the House of Darwin last night. We hadn't booked so there was a wait for the table and I would advise checking the menu before going as it had changed a lot since our last visit. It was a busy night but the staff were friendly and approachable. They were willing to make adjustments to the menu so my children could enjoy the meals including using our own cheese as we have lactose intolerance.

Very friendly staff, and great food when available. And decent beer when available. After a couple of visits now, we have decided that if we go again we will phone first, and make sure that what's on the menu is actually available. We seem to be told everytime we go that they have been really busy earlier and you can have "chicken or beef" and one of the guest ales is off because the pipes are being cleaned, at 5.30 in the evening, in all my years in pubs I have never cleaned pipes in the evening always before opening and only ever twice a week. A really poor show from what is obviously a good eating place.

Ate there this evening with a friend. Welcoming staff and quickly served a drink and seated. A good range of draught ciders, Lagers and beers as well as non alcoholic beverages are on offer. The surroundings are clean and well maintained. The food was of a very high standard, Cooked to perfection and presented very nicely. Polite and attentive waiting staff without being intrusive. The Blade of Beef, Pigs in blankets and Sticky Toffee Pudding were all superb. For a date, Special occasion or just a sociable meal, Its a 👍 from me.

Modern, clean and friendly with a relaxed ambience and cosy, welcoming feel. Being a Friday evening, drinking only soft drinks and meeting friends, I can comment on food or drinks selection. It's not massive inside, but has a raised platform outside for tables and a good number of parking spaces.

This has fast become our local and we love the range of gins. Last night however I was not greatly impressed. Meal booked for 8pm when we arrived asked to get a drink at the bar so they could check our table was ready having already gave the name. 15 minutes later still no sign of our table. We asked again to be told that they had double booked, then not 30 seconds later were shown to a table. Ordered starter and main. Our starter took quite a while to come to us. Generally we go for the bar menu and it would appear to be the better menu. I had the scallops and pork belly from the restaurant menu - pork belly was very soft and not crispy on top-Scallops we’re bland. Main - wild mushroom rissotto - unfortunately It tasted and looked like it was swimming in soya sauce -with 4 dollops Stilton cheese-presentation was lacking... and I myself have made seriously better risottos ..sorry! .. we were the last to be served our food despite being there since 8pm.. felt a little like the last meal so little effort was put in. Lights above us kept going on and off leaving us sitting in the dark numerous times. Overall we do like the Darwin but that one experience wasn’t the best! We will be back though because the bar menu is good and range of drinks are great.

We went to the rolls Royce factory and on the way there we got hungry and checked out house of Darwin. We saw the new renovations outside and were impressed. So we walked in and immediately got greeted by the very friendly waitresses. They had a very large selection of Gins which was amazing. The food was perfect. The starters were beautiful. I had the Tbone ribeye which was juicy and tender, I’ve never had such a good steak in England. If you’re in the area there is no better place for a drink or for food.

Beautiful setting, prompt and nice service and deliciously cooked food that you can take away in a cute Tupperware if you don't finish it (portions are huge). The only 2 things I would highlight is the very limited vegetarian options (GUYS YOU NEED TO INCLUDE AT LEAST 1 VEGGIE BURGER IN YOUR MENU!) and that the topping on the pizzas fall apart all the time. Oh! They have an awesome gin selection too! Would recommend for a nice evening meal in either their restaurant or bar area.

Went for on Saturday 7th April for meal. The place was heaving, brill atmosphere. Even then everything was perfect. We had a fantastic meal, steak was cooked perfectly, compliments to chef. This place has been open for a year now. Decoration & layout provides a unique atmosphere. The menu is high quality gastro-pub. Good selection of real ale (they have their own brew) & wines, plus a huge gin selection with it's own menu. Relaxed eating in the bar area, with numerous 'cosy corners' of slightly more formal eating in the dining area. A seating area out the back & they are currently building a deck out the front. Also great for light lunches or just a coffee. Definitely recommended 👍👍

Well an over priced disappointment to be honest. I had the sticky beef and Yorkshire pudding which was perfectly fine but the 45 minute wait after for my main seemed excessive, especially once it finally came out! I had a fondant potato which must have been taken from a new potato rather than a maris piper and the duck could have done with some crisping up. But to top it all off the main was just majoritively red cabbage, had no sauce and for the priveledge of this delight, my wife and I paid 46 quid for 2 mains 2 desserts and two pints of guiness. Not worth your time, we sat for 2 and a half hours just to cancel our desserts and be charged over the odds for measly portions.

Ate at the house of Darwin with my wife last night and the food was absolutely spot on. Not a single flaw on either of our plates. I had the 14oz Ribeye which was cooked to perfection, beautifully succulent, tender and flavoursome, the dauphinoise potatoes were a delight and the accompanying vegetables were also fresh and full of flavour. My wife commented on how succulent and Juicy her chicken was, we just really really enjoyed our meals! You can tell that all the vegetables are Fresh Farm produce along with the locally sourced fresh meats. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, always on hand and the selection of drinks is also outstanding. A massive thank you to Easton and the team and Huge compliments to Richard the head chef, we shall certainly be back in the not so distant future. 5 stars!

We went for sunday lunch. We had a vegetarian in our party and we're told shortly after ordering that there would be a 20minute wait for the vegetarian option (mushroom and stilton risotto). 45 minutes later the food finally came out (after one of the party had been and checked on its status) and the risotto was overcooked and instead of mushroom and stilton was beetroot flavour. If we had been advised of this when they said it was delayed we'd have made an alternative choice from the menu. Overall a beautiful venue they've done a fantastic job doing it up but avoid the Sunday lunch menu if you're a vegetarian.

The lovely breadsticks, hanging chicken skewers and apple crumble have gone and a new menu has been introduced. The offer for wood fired pizzas on a Tuesday has gone too and there is less choice of pizzas which are now called ‘Artisan flatbreads’. We went recently and found it expensive too.
