We visited today for a carvery. We were shown to a table in a corner where we felt very close to the next table and quite squashed in. However when we asked to move there was no problem at all, and we were given a different table. The food was tasty, cooked well and plentiful. Someone came to clear our plates when we finished eating, and went to take the little bits of meat we had put in a serviette to take home for the dog. He asked if we wanted any more scraps and brought a box with more in. Happy customers, happy dog!

This was my first time having a Carvery at The Kings Highway. On our table we had two vegetarians and two meat eaters, for vegetarians there were surprisingly two options (normally places just have 1!) Today it was Califlower Cheese Tart or Veggie (maybe Vegan) sausages. We opted for the tart. All the meat is laid out in the carvery but for vegetarian options it's put through the system for you and it is brought out from the kitchen when you present your ticket, I absolutely loved this because it meant that it was extra hot! 😃 The meat eaters had four different meats available which was really good, (Gammon being the favourite on our table and apparently it was lovely). You get a lot of choice of vegetables and trimmings which is great, some were slightly colder than I would have liked but it all depends how fast the turnover is, it would have been nice to see some parsnips and brussel sprouts but I suppose it is only November... Haha! The staff were very nice, the tables were very clean. The only downside was that 3/4 of us had finished eating and our plates were taken away, we all felt that the plates shouldn't have been taken until all 4 of us had finished as the 4th person then felt pressure that they had to rush their food.

We love coming to this pub in fact we come most weeks. The staff are so friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. The pub is always clean. The choice of food is really good from bangers n mash to carvery. The midweek offers are excellent value for money

Rang to book a table but on arrival no one seemed aware of this, however we were seated at a nicely situated table. Food from carvery was fine except for the roast beef. The beef was very tough and chewy so we both left it on our plates. When we mentioned this we were immediately asked to select free desserts which were delicious. Overall the experience was very good, the staff were friendly and extremely helpful and we left happy and with full tummies!

We came here a few years back and didn’t rate the food wasn’t very nice. But this time wow it was so lovely. Very tasty. Fresh. Loads of choice and the toasties were actually oven cooked instead of fried. There was plenty of choice. The meat was tender ( I had beef and gammon). Staff were very friendly. Great value for money. Great attendance and politeness from the staff !!! You do need a covid NHS app on your phone at the moment before entering. Beautiful carvery and other food menus very clean establishments. They are now taking bookings for the tables either phone or book on the Internet just say hiw many off you and your name as you get to entrance they show you to your table. The carvery is Three sections of Thick sliced succulent cuts of 🍖 meat from turkey beef and gammon, loads of veg choices massive Yorkshire pudding cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes are sooooo tasty!!!!everything apon the plate that ordered is perfectly top notched cooked , fabulous pudding selections and the drinks prices are great 👍 also a slot machine if you like to gamble 🎰 a little fun

We always come for the carvery. For the price the food is always good. Always warm and fresh and nicely served. Always a good selection of drinks that are reasonably priced. And love that you get your dinner and are left alone to enjoy it. Always had great service.

Whilst on a shopping trip, we popped in for a bit of lunch. It was not very busy and we got served very quickly. Food was very nice and came out within a reasonable time. Would definitely eat there again.

The carvery was really lovely, though we found service to be a little slow and some desserts didn't arrive as depicted on the menu- but it was pretty busy and these things happen so we weren't too phased. Would definitely come again as staff were really friendly.

We had quite a cold reception when we arrived. We were told food was available but only if we ordered in the next 15 minutes. We had the offer of 2 steaks & a bottle of wine for£27. Only Chardonnay with the offer. The food was served followed by much very noisy shuffling of chairs nearby. Food 8/10. Staff 3/10.

Budget hotel with comfortable rooms and all basic necessities. Hotel lobby unwelcoming and gives poor first impression, made up by good staff within adjacent pub. Lacking accessible rooms as room 9 had additional handrails but still unable to shower due to being over a bath. Would recommend as excellent value for money.

4 Star plus for the food, restaurant and service but ambience disturbed by an 'office meeting' conducted on an adjoining table. You would like to think a business 'making in roads into already established businesses' (their words not mine...) could afford to have an office of their own... Food was good, plentiful and hot. We had reserved a table which was ready for us, placed our order at the bar but found when I returned to our table another family had taken a table next to ours. There were 3 adults and 3 children. One child was screeching and another was running around. The staff immediately moved us to another table and later on stopped another child from disturbing other guests. Most impressed with this positive reaction to these problems. Our food was much better than pub food we have received elsewhere, it was piping hot, and the generous portions were promptly served promptly.

Me and my boyfriend love to come here for carverys. We think it’s better at the kings highway than at Toby Calvert or any over place that offers caverys. Everything about it is 10/10 and the staff are also lovely and welcoming.

Visited here on Tuesday, not been in for years but fancied a drink after I’d been shopping at Kingsway. I ordered a pint of Carlsberg (I think), it was only £3.70 so very reasonable in comparison to the places I usually drink. After a little while I fancied something to eat and was hoping to catch the carvery but I think they’d just shut it down when I went to order about 8.30 so a ordered the nachos instead. I got a bit confused here as on the menu it gave you what I thought was the option of beef chilli or pulled pork on the top. When I placed my order I said ‘with beef chilli’ so I was surprised when it came and was covered in pulled pork (which I do not particularly like). I queried this and the lady told me it was pulled pork AND beef chilli not either or. Bit of an odd combination and I couldn’t see any beef in it but I ate it anyway as I was hungry and it was ok considering I don’t like pulled pork. I’m not really sure if this is my fault or the fault of the confusing menu. Anyway the staff were all very pleasant, the type that say ‘hi sweetheart what can I get you?’ which I personally like. I was served by several different people and they were all friendly and smiley. I’d rather give it 4.5 stars based on the nachos issue but I can’t and I don’t want them to loose a star when it was possibly my mistake and I’ll probably be back again soon when the carverys open!

After not a good experience at christmas and everything that happened with service and allergens. I am now giving a 5 star review after today visit! The manager was nothing but apologetic and understood everything I said. The food itself is delicious (the Carvery) the staff are really friendly. The manager mark gave us complimentary meal today which was very kind and me & my family enjoyed a belated Christmas meal after having covid and the staff documented the Allergens when ordering food they seemed to be on it with the allergies so thank you mark & to the pub staff! Stayed over night in the hotel as we travelled from Wales for a funeral. We had an evening meal and breakfast which myself and daughter enjoyed. They had a quiz that we didn't enter in the evening but it was fun and I think our local Marstons should do something like that! Great experience... customer service wise! Taz on the Carvery was absolutely brilliant couldn't praise her enough! She single handily took on a monster joint of beef whilst handling a pair of grabbers! She sliced and diced it perfectly like something out of 'Kill Bill'. Mark the manager was nice enough to come over to our table and introduce himself, seems a nice guy. I hope he values his business as much as I do mine - staff are important especially when they make a lukewarm carvery enjoyable! Hats off to such a credit to the business - please value this like you should, passion for a job is rare. I will return, purely for this reason - thanks.

If your child is noise sensitive please note this is on highly used ambulance route. Disabled parking and toilets available. Think i was spoiled by going to another food pub because the atmosphere/staff were not as bubbly in this restaurant. Had to peel a lot of cheese off my garlic bread and honestly I love cheese but this was too much. My daughters (children's meal) Was all different temperatures. Some cold some too hot. No staff asked how the meal was or I'd of mentioned it .

There was a spider in it's well established web at one end of the dressing table, the bath handle was loose, the soap/shampoo holder fell apart when I moved the bottle, the basin tap was hard to get hot water from (without it splashing me) and one of the dressing table light bulbs didn't work properly. On the plus side, the beds were clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly.

I wouldn't say average because it was pretty decent when the food arrived I had low hopes considering the inside of the steak but it actually turned out being pretty good. I do however have some minor complains including the peppercorn sauce being runny and in small portion and the steak being a little fatty. Apart from that though the service was good the playground is great for children and I enjoyed it and the 50% deal if the cherry on top. 8/10 or 4 stars

Very nice pub with a great selection of wines, spirits, cask ales and the like. The food menu contains a good selection of typical pub grub meals, including a number of vegetarian dishes available. Tasty food, and generous portions, at rather budget friendly prices. I can wholeheartedly recommend the mixed grill. Clean facilities and polite staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Very nice meal. Didn't like the idea of the salt being in a little pot. Surely a little sachet would have been better like the pepper and the ketchup was. There wasn't even a spoon to use we had to use finger and thumb. Not very nice when 4, of you are having to do the same thing. Otherwise everything else was fine

Handy place to have a meal after a shopping trip, its an average chain pub. I would have given it 5 stars but there was a good wait to get served at the carvery counter and then the potatoes were cold as was the stuffing and the beef was like shoe leather. When I asked the waitress about it, all she could say was, we only have 1 beef joint at dinner. Just cover it to keep it moist.

Nice clean pub and restaurant, plenty of seating in doors and out. Friendly staff but they do need more staff working on busy days. Quick service and the food is nice, we ordered 2 beef lasagna's but one had very little beef in it which was disappointing. Also no one checked with us that our meals were ok, but they don't have many staff working. All covid rules are in place and a very safe environment. We will be back.

Went for lunch on Saturday and they've implemented excellent social distancing practices to make both their customers and staff safe during these difficult times. Staff are very friendly right up from management to the cleaners and bar staff, customer service is fantastic. Food is lovely, and had a nice pint before shopping at Kingsway Retail.

Most importantly the beds were really comfortable! The Bar / Restaurant was OK, but there was a Meatloaf tribute act on when we went for a quick evening drink. We had to sit outside to get away from the racket! Way too loud. Thankfully it was a nice evening. The servers and bar staff were very pleasant. Would stay again. Good location.

Only found out to check in at bar by other guests returning to their room. All it needs is a sign on reception telling guests to go over to pub. What happens when pub us closed??

The carvery is lovely, especially when one takes into consideration the price. Another aspect is it is great value, all the vegetables are fresh and delicious so help yourself, the portions of meat are generous and tasty and the customer service is always good. Alternatives to the carvery are also good value meals such as the burgers, steaks (which have always been cooked to my specification on every occasion I've had one) and a good selection of vegetarian/vegan meals. Drinks are fairly priced and in a good variety compared to many chains. Only reason it could put some people off is because its customer base is a lot of families on some days, though the place is big and you can find a quiet area to sit. Servers, carvery chefs and bar staff are always friendly and professional with a highly reliable level of good customer service. Will always come here for a meal.

We've been calling in most weeks in the evening on the way to refuelling at the nearby Sainsbury's. Since the last menu change the food has been hit and miss. The meat is often very tough (especially the steaks). The carvery has had the same choice of meat for as long as we can remember and a change would be nice. The veg selection is ok but sometimes dry or cold. The beers and wines are excellent though and the staff friendly, in particular Gareth, Rob, Sandra and Liz. They do seem to be short staffed at times and we get the impression they're put upon by the management. The meal prices are a bit high since the last menu change but overall a good choice to choose from. The two for £10 offers are particularly good. We always find the place clean and are pleased there's no TV or pool table so we can sit and have a quiet drink. All in all it's a nice friendly place which could be improved greatly by making a few small changes.

Went in for a carvery during Monday Lunchtime. Its very nice and spacious inside. The food was excellent, all was hot and we weren't queuing for very long at all. They offer 2 medium carverys for £10, which we took advantage of. They also offer refillable soft drinks for £2.95 which you get refilled at the bar. There is plenty of parking and a sheltered smoking area outside. Had a very enjoyable meal considering it wasn't planned.

*UPDATED* Due to Covid-19 we have been unable to go and enjoy a carvery as we use to, however today we had one delivered. Obviously the atmosphere isn't the same at home, but the food was just as delicious. It came prepared in separate eco friendly boxes and bags, which is so nice to receive. The meat and Yorkshire puddings came in a separate container from the veg, and of course the gravy came in its own separate pot. It was still piping hot 🔥 with a vavied and generous serving of veg. Pigs in blankets were delicious too 😉 Delivery driver was extremely kind, and kept to the contact free delivery. I can honestly say that this has been one of the best food delivery orders we have had during lockdown. Thank you to the staff and manager. Oh also, the containers don't go soggy or sweaty, which is a bonus! Older review Fabulous!! Excellent food, hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere. We have been enjoying carvery lunches here for over 3 years and took our daughter and family there last Sunday to celebrate my husband’s birthday (as we did last year). We loved the new decor and rearranged queuing system - cutting down the vegetable queuing time. Sadly, the beef was somewhat disappointing - it didn't seem to have the same flavour as on other visits, and there seemed to be quite a bit of waste. We all wished that we had stuck with the turkey, but glad that we hadn’t had all beef! The mashed potatoes were lovely, as were the other vegetables, although 'crispy' roasts would have been nicer. We don't usually have a pudding but did on this occasion - we were not disappointed - in fact, my husband didn't manage to finish his generous portion of Chocolate Éclair cake.
