The ambience is really good. I liked vibes and customer service, they were polite and good. We ordered many dishes and they were amazing. They have lot of spaces inside and outside, so we can even organize some wedding events in the lawn.

This is a lovely restaurant with superb pizzas, but also a varied selection on its menu. The restaurant is comfortable and has a lot of tables, but the service is good and food arrives at the table quickly. Well worth a visit.

We stayed for two nights at the hotel, and it was lovely. The restaurant staff were amazing in regards to accommodating my daughters allergies and also remembering this, the next evening when we arrived for food. We were served by Megan S this evening and couldn’t be any happier and satisfied with the service. Very professional and kind. Good food, nice atmosphere, and nice staff is what makes it for us. 10/10

We held our wedding reception here in ‘The Den’ for our 3 course meal and in ‘The Library’ for our evening reception as we were having a small intimate wedding. We additionally spent a lot of our time in the gardens where the views were outstanding. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful. Our meals for all of our guests were delicious with a huge variety. The staff at the Farmhouse including booking of the wedding and also during our time there were fantastic. Nothing was ever too much trouble. All staff were extremely accommodating, welcoming and friendly. Special thank you to Amy and Paige who were involved in booking our reception. Myself and now Husband would love to visit here again as well as our guests. We will be recommending this as not only a pub, hotel but also an amazing wedding venue. Thank you so much <3 xx

We visited the farmhouse for a meal last night. We were served promptly by Megan who was so lovely, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. Steak cooked perfectly. Partners pie etc cooked perfectly; beautiful accompanying gravy. Couldn't get the taste of truffle in the truffle butter ordered to accompany the steak. Triple cooked chips were delicious. Had a side of Mac n' Cheese which was okay; not as flavoursome as it could be. The side of garlic bread had no taste of garlic; we requested some garlic butter to put on it which made it much more palatable. Megan was so very attentive and happy to oblige. All in all a good meal with minor issues. Will still keep coming as the service was great. THANK YOU MEGAN from us both.

An excellent pub/restaurant near Markeaton Park, with hotel rooms which are very nice. We stayed in the snowball room and it was an excellent layout with a great bed and nice having a DAB radio next to the bed as well. The Folly which is attached is also and excellent wedding venue with a large hall and a beautiful view out from the patio.

Staff really helpful, polite and friendly. A wonderful welcome, all meeting needs met, swiftly and with 'no problem' attitude. Buffet plentiful and tasty! Noise from bar area quite disruptive during meeting, but wasn't too bad. Perhaps, not having cabaret style, with seats being moved forward away from sliding doors. Lovely meal at the Farmhouse this afternoon. Our server April was so professional, warm and attentive. Very impressed with my friends choice of fish and chips with triple cooked chips. She was impressed. I had the pork belly which was so tender, moist, well cooked with the fat well rendered down.I added a side of broccoli and triple fried chips which complemented the pork. We both had the Pistachio Bakewell for desert which was absolutely delicious. Lovely. Thank You again April.

Lovely place to eat - reasonable prices and lovely food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Bar area is a nice relaxing area to sit in addition to the restaurant area. Dogs welcome in bar area. Really enjoyed my visit and would definitely go again. Highly recommended.

Table sticky to the extent glasses and condiments were stuck very firmly too it Roast potatoes hard veg on the cool side roast beef tasteless ( the mushroom wellington was excellent) we weren’t asked if everything was ok until we had nearly finished. Service very slow then couldn’t see anyone to ask for the bill. Until the waitress came and said would we hurry up they needed the table ! Not up to the usual standard as been quite often in the past very disappointed.

I visited the farmhouse at mackworth for the first time yesterday and I visited with three friends. The outside and inside is absolutely beautiful I was amazed at how much space there was inside and how many people could be seated. We had a younger member of staff serve us who I think may have just started but any questions we had he went and asked management straight away, he was very kind and pleasant. We all ordered Mains and Desserts. Two or us ordered Pizzas and the other two ordered Burgers. The Pizza is done in its own oven which we were worried would mean the meals would come out at different times but there was under 5 minutes waiting time between the burgers arriving. I ordered a Margarita Pizza and asked for Onions, Mushrooms and Peppers to be added on top. The Onions were not cooked (this seems to be the way everywhere I go so perhaps I need to ask next time I order??) And the Peppers were not Bell Peppers but Chilli Peppers - My mistake but they technically gave me what I asked for but just be wary if you ask for peppers to be added on to anything. The pizza was very nice and filling, I asked for Balasmic Vinegar which went lovely with it and they even had a pizza cutter. (This doesn't happen to most of the places I eat at so this was very exciting!) For dessert 3 of us had the Gooey Brownie (as pictured) and the other had Toffee Pudding. We all enjoyed our desserts. The toilets were very clean and there was plenty of them! Which is love - nothing worse than waiting in a queue! The reason why I have marked it down 1 star is for the amount of flies and spiders. Luckily it wasn't until after eating I noticed them, other people in our party did but didn't mention it due to us all being in the middle of eating. There was a fly around us the majority of the meal I assumed it was the same one just come back to us but looking up at the window there seemed to be a nest of at least 10, with Spiders and Wasps as well...we were in the conservatory part of the restaurant near the door but the door and windows were not open There probably isn't much you can do when it's one fly or two but when it's as many as there was I was a bit surprised. I'm also glad I didn't look up when I first started eating. Apart from that it was a really nice experience. I would hope to see some more Vegetarian options on the menu, all of them seem to be a bit too adventurous.... Sometimes it just nice to have simplier options as we all struggled to pin point something where we liked all of the ingredients. Would come back again and would sit somewhere else in the restaurant and hopefully by then there will be different options on the menu.

We visited here for lunch and was really impressed with the service and food. We ordered pizza which was on offer 2for1 Mon to Fri between 12-7. These were also baked in a woodfire oven. We also had the Korean mussels which was spicy but delicious. We then ordered the sharing dessert which cost £14.50 for three deserts. The was clean and staff friendly and polite. There is plenty of free parking outside and they have a great garden and outside dinning area also.

Dropped by randomly at 0930 because I was on the way to Alton Towers and needed to use the toilet but was nowhere near a service station! The staff were lovely and welcoming :) They very kindly made me a hot chocolate even though they wouldn't normally offer hot drinks to take out at that time. It seems like a lovely hotel and venue.

Visited today the food wasn’t as good as previous times.The roast dinner which was beef didn’t taste very fresh to be honest the roast potatoes tasted as though they had been reheated (tasted old)we visited at 2pm. So I was quite disappointed. The service was lovely very attentive staff beautiful restaurant.

The overall was good, but not great. There wasn't anyone at the "to be seated" area when we arrived. It wasn't clear what to do about ordering food. We went outside to find a table and all the ones we could find, either had glassware and/or crockery on them, as well as being unclean. We ordered our food at the bar and someone came and cleaned the table after we asked. The food when it came was very good, but is a little bit expensive. When we paid, we tried to leave a cash tip but the gentleman couldn't seem to find the pot. To me, the main issue was no-one seemed to be in overall charge, directing the young people in what they should be doing. On a number of occasions, the waiting on staff brought out food, even though they hadn't cleared away the previous courses crockery. This may appear like a very negative experience, but all of the issues are minor and should be easily addressed.

Visited with my mum for lunch a few weeks ago. I had pizza and my mum had a pie; we both really enjoyed our food and sat by the window which had a nice view of the fields beyond the decking area outside. The decor is lovely and we visited at a quiet time but we were served quickly. Our waitress was Anastasia, she was kind and helpful.

As a group of 5 adults, we came along for lunch. All drinks and food was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The only thing I would mention is that service was quite slow. It wasn't a problem for us as we were enjoying chatting and taking our time however we did wait quite a long time to have dirty plates taken away and by the time our coffee's arrived at the end of the meal they were quite cold. I did tell the friendly server who apologised straight away and brought us piping hot fresh replacements so that was wonderful.

I went here for a funeral wake so this is a review on it as a venue and a short stop. It's off the main Ashbourne Road and easy to find. There is a pretty good amount of parking although if you were having a big get together it might get full if there are other groups there. The place is split into an upper bar and restaurant area and a lower function room. I only went in the lower function room and bar. It was tidy and well set out. The food was good and more than enough for about 50-60 of us. Other than that I can't say much more as I was only there for a couple of hours.

I knew the restaurant would be busy with it being Mother’s Day weekend, but taking just under 2 hours to have one round of drinks and a main meal was dreadfully slow service. We waited 5-10 minutes to be seated, which wasn’t a problem but what was missing is one of the many members of staff walking by us was for someone to stop and say sorry we’re really busy someone will be with you in a minute. In the end we left the child’s desert order but not delivered and gave up on the idea of order desert. The food was great, the service was a let down.

I couldn't recommend the Sunday lunch at the Farmhouse enough. Our waiting staff were great, particular mention to Adam who was attentive, polite, accommodating of my allergies which can be awkward sometimes and patient. Sometimes going out with a toddler can be stressful but providing her colouring and crayons was great to keep her entertained. Adam was really good with her too. Nothing was too much to ask if him and he was attentive without crowding the table. We will definitely be back. The food was beautiful, fantastic range to choose from especially on a Sunday, only 1 criticism was way too much pepper for our liking (I know that is a preference, next time we will ask for less) overall definitely recommended we will be back.

Had the fish and chip dinner. Let me tell you about the portion sizes. Now I'm a big lad and can eat, boy can I eat. But it was an absolute battle to get that dinner down me. I wasn't about to leave any of it because it was absolutely cooked to perfection. People say 'fish and chips, is fish and chips'. No, they're wrong. There's fish and chips and there's the farmhouse fish and chips. A world apart. My compliments to the chef are as big as the fish. Massive.

Service was good and the waitress was happy and helpful, although we waited 40 mins for our meal. Food was good but the harissa aubergine was very small and overcooked. I have had this before and was disappointed as it was a very small portion and only half of a small aubergine, leaving me hungry. I am not a big eater so that doesn’t happen usually! Other than that enjoyed the outing with friends in a nice venue.

Unfortunately the food was average at best. The bread dry on our sandwiches which didn’t help with the fact no spread had been put on it and the contents sparse. Chicken and mayonnaise sandwich was put together with small chunks of meat and lashings of mayonnaise. Not the breast of chicken or rashes of bacon I was expecting given the price. My sons meal was bought out first and after waiting 5 mins we had to ask where ours was. Extremely disappointing. £17 each the 3 adults paid for a sandwich and a drink. Really expensive for poor quality. However staff lovely and very accommodating.

We had a lovely meal, the staff were very friendly, polite and willing to help in any way that they could. Service was slow but it was busy and we weren't really in a rush so we didn't mind too much. The pork collar was very disappointing, it was a tiny piece of meat and tough as old boot, it didn't even come with any veg. Definitely not worth £16.95. However, we sent it back and ordered something else which was done without any quibble and the second choice was lovely. Overall it was a good meal out and we would recommend to others. Thank you.

Our starters came before our drinks and the first girl waitress we had seemed slow and not very friendly however george came after we complained about our drinks being slow and he was very good , very helpful made the experience better. The food was good, just drinks service a little slow .

We have dined here a few years ago here and loved it - as we were back in the area we thought we would come back. We prebooked a table which was great and arrived a little early and we’re still taken to our table. The children’s meals are great value for money and both enjoyed. My pizza was delicious - thank you chef! Husbands roast came out cold so we sent it back… the return one honestly wasn’t much better (the meat was slightly warmer but the veg was cold - you could happily sit your hand on top of it all and it was at best luke warm.) it was busy and therefore service took a while, given that the returned meal arrived when we were nearly finished ours we accepted it as we were tired and hungry! Certainly has tainted our view a little.

We had the Baked Camembert to start which was cooked well with a lovely flavour. I then had the chicken and ham hock Pie - which was absolutely delicious. It came with a good selection of roasted vegetables and a good portion of mash potato. My boyfriend had the brisket buger which was put together well and the meat was juicy and cooked well. This came with skinny fries. Overall, really enjoyed the experience and would recommend to anyone in the area.

Great hotel with good food!! Room was very spacious and nicely furnished. Lots of tea/coffee faciilities. The bed was enormous and very comfy!! Staff were friendly and helpful, would highly recommend. If you are visiting because of a wedding at Grangefields this is a perfect location, only 5 mins in a cab.

Blown away by this place, not been since it was the Mackworth Hotel and they’ve really turned this place around. Service was spot on, food was amazing. The haddock is the go to dish for me, it was tasty with plenty of fish and flavour. Would go again!

A very convenient location, well laid-out and comfortable bar and restaurant. Staff very friendly and efficient. That said, the decor is somewhat tired, a theme that continues into the rooms. Cleaning could be to a better standard, carpets throughout would benefit from a clean. Great bath and shower! Breakfast particularly disappointing. Waitress said there had been "a bit of an explosion" with the fried eggs, which had the consistency of rubber. By the time she re-appeared, my wife and daughter had eaten and no longer felt like breakfast, so not a good experience.

Having travelled from London for a funeral, we were warmly greeted by staff at the bar. All the information we needed was provided and as we were early, they kindly offered to hold our luggage safely for us. After attending a funeral, we returned and were checked into our rooms promptly, and efficiently. The rooms were lovely, clean and welcoming - added touches like the Nespresso machine, toiletries and towelling robes were fabulous. We had a table of 14 booked for dinner, the advance menu booking facility proved really helpful for all. Food was wonderful and all happy with their choices. Service was great and couldn't be faulted. Thank you to everyone who made our visit so wonderful.

We went for Sunday lunch for my husband's 65th birthday with our daughter and granddaughters. It's a spacious building with several interesting & different areas to sit & the tables were nicely spaced out. There were separate children's menus with pictures to colour in which was a nice touch and kept the girls occupied! The food was great and the staff were lovely. We were not rushed at all which made it a nice experience.

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime and was informed informed it was 'steak Tuesday' half price.....bonus! We had been before but just for a drink in the bar and we thought the place had a really nice cozy feel to it. I had the Argentinian rib eye and my wife had a fillet steak. Both were cooked to perfection and exactly as we had ordered them. I have to say, it melted in my mouth. It must be one of the best steaks I've had as I can't remember eating one that was better! We were seated close to the log fire which was very warm and cozy! Staff were very friendly and efficient. We would highly recommend, its quiet, out of town with plenty of free parking. We will be visiting regularly from now on!😋

We stayed over for the night and our room was excellent. Live music which also was brilliant. The place has a lovely feel to it with great staff. My only complaint were the chips with out steaks, had to send them bk as they were undercooked and still not right second time round.The staff could not apologise enough and were extremely attentive. We stayed over night at the Farmhouse and enjoyed a meal in the evening. The general feel and atmosphere is really welcoming and enjoyable. There is a fun mix feel of modern city like ambiance and warm countryside lodge. The food was OK I'd say average really but I felt over £14 for a burger was steep and it was a little dry and underwhelming if I'm honest. My husband had pizza which was really tasty, we enjoyed the seating area and fire was lovely. Our room.... Liked it, BUT it was facing the road and I really wished we had asked to switch for a back room as the road noise was relentless till the wee hours and it was hard to rest with it. Also there was a lot of fly's in the room, bed mattress was hard and lumpy, so really didn't sleep well at all sadly. Breakfast was nice, BUT prefer just some decent white bread rather then seeded with a full English, less mushroom and tomato and more sausage and back bacon rather than undercooked streaky. We would come back to stay and to eat, but would be more specific about our room expectations and make different choice's meal wise.

I think my family party of 17 people between the ages of 2 years and 98 years presented a few challenges to the team but they were brilliant in every regard. The food was excellent and everybody enjoyed the courses they'd chosen. There was a good deal of food swapping so that we could all taste how good everything was. It was wonderful for me to see our family together and having such fun and that would not have been possible without the careful attention of the staff. As the organiser, I did find the pre-ordering online quite difficult in that the hard copy pre-ordering form didn't match with the online version and I ended up having to put loads of notes to explain our choices (e.g. the children's half portion orders). That cannot have made life easy for the staff interpreting the pre-order. The automated emails reminding me to make the pre-order (when I'd already done it) were a bit unnerving! But please don't let that take the shine off my compliments of the staff who made our Family Secret Santa 2021 so special. We will be booking again for next year, I'm sure.

Good Food. Disappointed The Farmhouse do not serve Diet Coke only Pepsi and limited other soft drinks. The toilets needed a good clean and preferably the seats to not be hanging off. Both ordered steaks, cooked to what we’d asked. Polite staff members, although we had a confusion with our order. However, the staff members resolved the issue straight away, but we were unsatisfied with the portion size of extra sides and wouldn’t recommend. There are no shutters or blinds in the restaurant and as lovely as the sun is, it was a nuisance making us very overheated and flustered having to keep moving to avoid the sun in our eyes. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to avoid the sun in our eyes where ever we sat in the restaurant. Overall the food was lovely, and we left satisfied.

Came here for a meal out after a team meeting in the area. We had booked a table in advance, and as we were waiting for someone, asked if we could sit at the bar for a while first. We were advised our table was ready whenever we were, and we were welcome to take our time in the bar before heading over. Our colleague eventually arrived, we had another round at the bar, and then decided to head over for our food. The food, when it arrived, was great, both in terms of value for money, and quality of food. There was a good variety of options available, and something to cater for everyone's tastes. The only issue we had was service seemed very slow from start to finish (one such moment being it taking 15 minutes from someone taking a drinks order to heading over to the bar to process the order). Overall, I'd happily return here next time I was in the area.

The waiters seemed a little inexperienced, quite slow to respond, although not busy when we arrived and overly casual with their service. Unfortunately my smoked fish was massively overcooked and the meal itself was barely warm, which was a pity because it had the potential to be a winning dish. In fairness, the rest of the party were 'satisfied' with their food and enjoyed their desserts. This place has all the ingredients to be a massive success but just needs to up it's game a little. More attentive waiters, warmer well cooked food would have definitely got a 5 star rating.

Had Sunday roast here. Food was reasonably good. Although beef was slightly tough and greens were a fraction undercooked and potato’s had been cooked too quickly as outside was burnt in places but internally they were not cooked equally through to the centre. Overall the food was ok but as the restaurant markets itself as a “high end” option, I have judged it against its own standards. Service was professional. However plates were cold which meant the food went cold quickly. Also staff would be better to ask if you want any sauces before bringing food out as I had to wait several minutes before starting my food whilst they went to get horseradish sauce for my beef.

My wife and I traveled from NYC for a wedding and stayed here for two nights. We loved it. Charming and cozy establishment with a great staff. Room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Bathroom and shower were a good size and were also clean. Ate breakfast both mornings and enjoyed the food. Again, staff was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend Staying here or stopping in for a pint and a meal.

I clearly stated that I'm lactose intolerant and I asked for no cream on it so I received ice-cream instead!!! Which wasn't in the menu? Why? No clue. I don't like surprises like that. If I pre-order from a certain menu why are you adding stuff which is not in the menu? And explanation was just hilarious. When I asked why I've got an ice-cream a waiter said, it's lactose free and we had one "lying about"(yes, that's what he said!!) so we added it as an extra. Not impressed 😕

As a family we ordered two pizzas and two Sunday roasts, extra roasties, green beans and dough balls. Obviously the roasts had been waiting a while for the pizzas as the food was Luke warm. The roasties arrived they were rock hard on one side, with no green beans or dough balls. No one checked back but when we complained fresh veg and dough balls arrived but we had already finished our meals. Very dissatisfied not very happy, over priced for a Luke warm effort. Manager blamed new bar staff but he only took the order not cooking it or checking back. The pizzas were ok though.😟

19 of us went for a celebration booked the table 2 months in advance was told needed to give pre ordered food list 48 hours prior and we needed to be seated by a certain time. Emailed confirmed this and we did as asked 4 starters came out bout 35 mintues later but the main courses were 1 hour and 20 mins later. Some food was nice some food not so Josh our waiter was fab and nothing was too much trouble .Desserts came and more were added. Well now to pay the bill !! what a joke we had to work out each individual what been had then went to the bar and said how much each was !! We were then told not all had paid and a big chunk still needed paying .So we did all again of course was our fault !! NOT miscommunication and obviously training skills of how to use a till and give receipts is obviously needed. Doesnt get the wow factor from us .

We booked in January to stay at The Mackworth Hotel as we did last year. When we arrived we were surprised that it was now The Farmhouse. We had received no notification that the hotel had been refurbished and had a new name and staff. We were kept waiting for about an hour and a half as our room was not ready. Finally at 3.30 we were shown to our room. The room was very nice and had been tastefully decorated. There was only two hangars. The hotel was very busy with a wedding and a birthday party we could not find anyone to ask for more hangars so we made do. Whilst putting clothes away in the chest of drawers it nearly toppled over, luckily my husband stopped it. It was not level on the floor. When we had the couple of days of really hot weather, we were not asked if we wanted fans for the room again there didn't seem to be anyone around. You could only open the window about 6 inches. We had booked for bed and breakfast on our first morning we were told we would have to pay for a cooked breakfast!! The meals were very pricey for a limited menu. The food was never hot. The roast dinner was shocking, I had the roast beef which was two thin small slices half was fat, we had one carrot and one parsnip and for £15.95 it was an experience I would not want repeated. The waitresses did their best but they need more training on customer care. We sat waiting ages after our main course for the plates to be cleared and desert menu offered. I am sorry to say we will not be visiting again.

We can’t recommend The Folly at The Farmhouse highly enough for a wedding venue. After visiting the venue in August 2019 and meeting Katie to discuss our requirements, we immediately fell in love with The Folly and was highly impressed by Katie’s professionalism and enthusiasm for our special day. We booked our wedding ceremony and reception at The Farmhouse for the 29 Feb 20, with Katie’s partner in crime Abi our dedicated wedding coordinator. Abi communicated every step of the way and answered all our questions and discussed any queries we had prior to the day. Their attention to detail and planning was second to none and instilled us with confidence from the word go. They really made it so easy for us to relax and enjoy the whole planning process. The day itself was faultless and perfect in every way. On the day Abi was superb and made sure everything ran smoothly and on time. (My sister had also hatched a surprise for us during the reception, which the team at the Farmhouse had secretly helped to ensure this went to plan - thank you) The Folly is a beautiful room, with lovely grounds for pictures. The bridal suite was also stunning and it was lovely to finish the day off in beautiful surroundings. We had many comments from our wedding guests on how beautiful the venue was and that the meal was lovely. People also commented on the evening food and how tasty and how it was served piping hot.
