Really enjoyed this visit, its been a while, my food was very nice & cooked to my liking. I opted for the Murphy t-bone steak medium-well & it was delicious, don't quite know just how i managed a desert but it did & took pics just to tease my siblings haha. Oh & my wife enjoyed her meal also.

Absolutely love this place been going for over 20 yrs now. The meals are definitely worth the money. The staff are friendly. Never had any issues at all. They have upstairs are and balcony. Which you can either just drink or eat. Then they have plenty of room downstairs and outside in the garden with a view to the canal. I have always recommended this place and always will. I love the 32oz mixed grill with all the trimmings. It only cost around £16 well worth the money compared to some places I have been in the past. Xx

The steaks here were INCREDIBLE!!! such good value for money. We will definitely be going back. My father in law had the Murphy (32oz tbone) and said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had. The only downside was that the toilet was disgusting. I had my baby and had to use the disabled / baby changing room to sort her nappy and it was a state! It wasn't even busy either and we went at 6:30 on a Monday night, so it was very quiet. Clearly the staff don't do regular checks on the toilet facilities.

Lovely pub in the middle of nowhere, there was a group of over 25 of us and we went for a meal. I had an issue with the size of my order as I had order a large but recieved a standard, I know as other people had order the same, when I mentioned it to staff one told me it was large because I had more chips and included garlic bread (I had the same as others there) another staff member at the bar told me the smaller dish is the same weight as the large when they clearly wasn't. I didn't make a fuss as it was a special occasion for someone. Other than that the food was really nice, I would go again and if I do I will update accordingly

Fantastic value, steaks were beautiful and cut like butter. Service was quick and polite. Great for families. It can be very busy and you have to look for your own table, they do not take bookings for small numbers.

Food quality was relatively poor from a recent experience. Our table had a steak sauce that tasted awful and hand to send plate back. Mixed grill was barely average, steak was pretty gristly. Depending on what time you visit there's often families with noisy children around. Also recently the place appears to be understaffed, something we were advised about on sitting. Nobody at the door / around to greet you. Giving 3 stars since most the food is okay at least, and the staff managed to deal with our issues alright. Overall I'd avoid this place for anything special until it improves it's standards. If ye just / mainly drinking it's fine.

Quick lunch stop whilst on a bike ride. First time I've been here. There was 8 of us in total, service was excellent. I had the all day breakfast, if you like them you'll love this one. We will be back.

It's a shame because I loved the food, loved the cleanliness inside (not outside you need to get it painted). However 1 thing annoyed me more than anything. If your heading upstairs the 3rd from the top step is taller or at an angle. Put of a group of 9 of us, 5 nearly tripped up due to this step.

Absolutely love this place it's always our go 2 place when we eat out... but absolutely gutted when we visited yesterday for valentine's day to find the peas had changed the new potatoes are now in halves, you only get 4 slices of cheesy garlic bread instead of the 2 halves that we used to get and the onion rings are the processed type instead of the full onion ring 😭 please please please change back to what they used to be... very disappointed :(

The food is amazing! I have steak medium rare and they cook it perfectly. The meals are a good size which is great for the quality you get and there is condiments always available throughout your meal. The staff are kind and will help you with meal choices and how best to have what steaks or ribs or chicken choice. They are clean and professional but the only reason ive removed a star is because on the cmas dinner the xmas pudding was like rubber and not very good. But the starter and main was georgous! Ive been here about 10 times and will say ill be back after my uni term is over.

Have dined here before as a couple but visited on Sunday afternoon 3.30ish after 'phoning to check availability. Party of 7 plus baby! Couldn't have been more accommodating - was fairly full downstairs but found us a big table upstairs where there was another bar. Ordered food and it arrived quite quickly - good choice and no complaints with the quality. Only one person behind the bar to serve drinks and take food orders but everything was dealt with in a reasonable amount of time. Upstairs became quite busy after we arrived. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again but would try and be more considerate and book next time!

Had a lunch with family and friends here, the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The outdoor seating area is very well laid out with plenty of tables for outside dining/drinking. The staff were friendly and efficient. Would certainly revisit if in the area.

This was out first visit to the Boat Stop and what absolute hidden gem. It wasn't to busy when we stopped there for an early lunch, but they do have a substantial outside capacity even with social distancing which they take quite seriously. The outside seating area is fantastic with some of it shaded and sheltered from the wind. The site is canal side, but you can't really see that from the tables, mostly comprised of a large grassed area where kids can run around, although disappointingly there is a fence, so no swimming 😂. The staff are attentive and polite, but be aware that when ordering food and drink you will need to use the app from your table, so install it and log in before you get there if you can. The food is of excellent quality and superbly cooked. Be sure and check out the options as you order on the intuitive app, the portions are large (very large) and the waiting time acceptable. We will be certain to visit again.

The Ragley Boat Stop is a nice pub. Mediocre food, but for the price it's a good little pub to stop in for a bite to eat. However there were a couple of things I was disappointed in, after the table had finished eating, a waitress looked at the table several times and didn't bother to come and clear the plates away. No-one came to ask that our meals were OK and when we were leaving no-one bothered to say goodbye. Perhaps staff training is needed?

Quite a few unexpected cobwebs and the dead spiders right above the table on the ceiling. Fish was excellent but chips tasted warmed up and mushy peas tasted and smelt burnt. Normally enjoy our meals, maybe this was a one off. Lovely decor and tables nice and clean. Won't put me off returning.

We arrived at Ragley boat stop by canal on our boat, only intending to fill up with water. We found excellent moorings with water and electricity available, so we decided to stay overnight. We were so glad that we did because after wandering across the pub garden for a drink, we chose to have some lunch and we weren't disappointed and here's why: 1. The building is large and beautifully decorated. 2. There were plenty of staff members available. 3. Everyone that served us was friendly, helpful and polite. 4. The quality of the food that we had from the lunch time menu was excellent. 5. The pricing meant that the excellent food was excellent value. 6. There is a good selection of drinks at the bar and they are reasonably priced. There's no doubt that we will call in here again in future without hesitation.

I Love this place. The food is good with generous portions. Drinks are average price. The staff are warm and welcoming. There is ample parking too. Ask about the specials like 2 steak dinners with a free bottle of wine, or buy one get one free on burgers on Monday. Cannot recommend enough x

First visit last week, we were welcomed into sign in under covid-19 rules, then lead through into a conservertory building glass sides and canverse top. Views across a field leading to the canal. We were asked what we wanted to drink and eat. The drinks appeared within minutes, (impressed), our meal shortly after, wow what a meal, "Steak and Ale" pie. The pastry top was to die for, so light. We called the day after, that's how we felt welcome, guess what I had the "Steak and Ale" pie again, my friend ordered the "Lasania" again we were not disappointed. Beautiful food, welcome polite staff, and a very pleasant view. It is now our favourite pub for eating in the Derbyshire area. Thank you staff, you now have two new friends. Colin & Anna

Very busy due to the eat out to help out offer, I think the staff were very overwhelmed but the food was good, as was the service. Due to how busy it was our food was predicted at an hours wait but I asked for the children's meal to come out asap as it's for a 1 year old and he couldn't really wait and hour and I was amazed! The children's meal came out within 10 minutes which I was very appreciative about.

Went for a lovely birthday meal for my daughter 13th birthday, which didn't disappoint. My daughter wanted to go out for steak for her birthday and I had spent a lot of my birthdays there in the past. When I go there to see it's been updated, was done very smart, but sometimes this means they bang up the price's to pay for it. This is a good food pub with a really nice lo ation for summer eating as it has a large garden at the back next to the canal. Famous for its meat dishes with some amazing steaks and reasonable prices. Its not fancy stuff but good hearty food that leaves you full and happy when you have finished. Its fairly quiet in the weekday evenings in the winter which i think is a good time to visit. Service is good and i have always been happy with my meal.

Only down side is that if you sit upstairs the poor waiters and waitresses have to carry your food through the bar and upstairs to you. Very disappointing. Chips looked/tasted warmed up. Ordered a kids egg chips and beans but it came with peas. Waitress was supposed to bring beans out to us but never did. Had to ask the waitress for coleslaw that should have come with my meal and generally got the impression tht she was annoyed because I had asked. Empty tables not cleared and when they eventually were they weren't wiped. I understand these issues when it's busy but it was Sunday evening and not very busy.

Large dining area and a good outside area, you can moor up in your boat and have lunch Only gets a three star as wasn't impressed with their steak as not cooked to medium rare last visit but all other meals were good and they quickly refunded the steak. Well where to start me and my friends thought we'd try this gastro pub out, everything was fine service beer the lot 👍 but the food really let the place down. I myself had the southern fried chicken burger tastes identical to a chicken legend from maccys.. just 5 pounds more served with chips and a garnish of Slaw. moving swiftly on my good ole pal had the king Henry 24oz monster of a steak look an absolute beast but in this case looks was deceiving just like meeting a tinder date in real life. not to mention how chewy it was I'd need the jaw of a crackhead that can chew at the speed of a horse to tackle the thing. Moving on too the lady of the group she said her salmon and her sauce was tasteless serves her right for trying to eat healthy women are never happy anyway so sodd them. Again beer was nice.

The location is superb especially in the Summer because the gardens back onto the canal. It's great to sit outside watching the boats on the canal whilst sipping a welcoming cold drinks. We have been visiting regularly for almost 30 years now which speaks for itself. A lovely setting by the Trent and Mersey Canal approached via a very bumpy old road. Ample car parking, including disabled spaces. There are also moorings for several boats. Spacious gardens, patio area and various indoor seating options. The food is unpretentious, but there is an extensive menu alongside daily specials, and an amazingly good value lunchtime menu. Friendly staff and well stocked bar. Only gripe, the toilets are old and tired and need refurbishment.

I visit this restaurant a lot. They're part of the 'King Henry's Taverns' chain, in a wonderful location. The bottom of the garden overlooks the canal, allowing you to watch the narrow boats trundle past while you drink your life away. The restaurant itself has a very nice rustic feel, with plenty of seating for any size party, both upstairs and down, as well as outdoors. There are tables on a balcony, with a windbreak, allowing you to enjoy the sunshine, even on breezy days. And with a bar on both floors, you're never too far away from a fresh drink. The food is pretty damn good, with a respectable range of expertly prepared dishes for a very good price. I usually go for one of their steaks; which they are able to prepare any way from blue to charcoal. With ample parking, and very friendly staff, there really is nothing to complain about. My family and I try to go there a few times a month.

Great food. Poor service. Had to ask to have the table cleaned after we eventually sat down. Tables all around us left with pots and glasses on while staff stood around chatting. They left our plates for 30mins after we finished and only took them away as they brought our deserts and there wasn't room to put stuff down.

Had my 60th Birthday meal here with family and friends, 8 adults and 5 kids, meals were okay, they did there best to bring them all out together, one of my guest had almost are there dinner before there sauce came for the steak, but on the whole with so many of us they handled it well, could not reserve tables, but was allowed to move tables together when we got there, to carry on bringing in large parties they really need to start reserving tables and setting them out ready. Would go back just for the steaks alone.

My partner and I tried the Ragley Boat Stop yesterday evening; the atmosphere felt very awkward as we were trying to find a table, waitresses were running round like headless chickens stamping all over the place, customer service from waiting staff wasn’t very good, one just dumped a starter on our table then continued walking without saying anything, waited another couple of minutes for my starter. Very cheap sauces which were tasteless, and very bland food. Wouldn’t highly recommend.

About 15mins or so from Derby. A good selection of food however it's the steaks that stand out a what it's known for. Standard, find a table, choose your meal take note of the table number and pay at the bar and waiter/waitress will deliver to your table. Some parts I feel are in need of a makeover but nothing bad. A large car park means you should never be stuck for somewhere to leave the car and you can drop passengers off right outside the door, ideal for disabled or infirm.
