Great find....Wednesday 5.30pm arrived on spec, already fully booked. Thankfully they found us a table in the newly carpeted snug, not a regular dining table but great for 2A & 2C. Lovely friendly service & delicious food. We all had food envy of each others choices. Steak & Stilton Pie blew us away, it was amazing. So deep & filled to the top. Would travel the 150 mile or so again just to order that Pie - seriously. Highly recommend ringing ahead even if it's midweek, we thought a Wednesday evening would be quiet...how wrong were we! 10/10 on every aspect.

Really lovely traditional pub. Quaint area right by the canal as the name suggests. Beautiful food, great for me being a celiac as they have their own gluten free menu. Friendly, helpful staff.

Dropped in after reading previous reviews . Didn't pre book but they fitted us in even though it was a busy afternoon. I'd certainly recommend booking in advance as you may miss out at busiest times. The staff were very attentive and the service was first class. The food wasn't the cheapest but my sandwich came with salad and fries and was more than enough. My wife and daughter had a main meal and they weren't disappointed.. plenty on their plates and really well presented. We all enjoyed our meals. That's a real compliment for some of the fussiest eaters that I know!! In the current climate of rising costs, I'd say go and treat yourself and keep these places in business. This has to be one of the best finds we have made in a long time.

Excellent service throughout our 1.5 hours munchtime fodder session. We were asked about any food allergies on 2 occasions, which is brilliant. Very regular checks from the table service. Very good food, good beer. What more can you ask for? KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!👍👌

On the edge of Thorne town centre but a great location next to the canal. Some seating outside. Good welcome and all staff very helpful. We had not intended to eat but very popular for dining, so we had the pensioners lunch at £7.00 very good could add a dessert for £9.95. Not sure if this is available everyday. Dog friendly with treats at the bar for them. Would certainly return.

Popped in today for Sunday carvery at just the right time, it soon got busy, you need to book if you want to eat, especially on a Sunday, good atmosphere, friendly locals and staff, food was great, not your typical carvery as you order and they being the food out to you, but you get loads and it's really tasty. Not a bad place, food is OK, but the whole place needs a refurb, the seats are stained and look dirty, the carpet is threadbare in places, looks very warn n mucky. The decor is very tired too. The staff are lovely and very pleasant.

Over the past couple of years this place has really come into it’s own from a food perspective. Fresh, quality ingredients cooked well. A recent visit for my Dad’s 80th birthday was excellent. If you haven’t tried it recently, you definitely should.

Oh my word what a Gem of a place to eat. My husband and I met our 2 friends for Sunday Lunch on 10/04. This venue was chosen because of the online Positive Feedback. It was our first visit and not the last. The Venue has a welcoming atmosphere, great staff and the food is delish! Plentiful, fresh food with lots of choice for the Carvery. Great wholesome food! The staff worked tirelessly ensuring all our needs were met. Empty plates were removed promptly, fresh drinks orders taken, dessert requests all completed in a timely manner. The waitresses were very friendly, helpful, smiley and professional. We really enjoyed visiting and eating at the Canal Tavern. We will see you again for sure!

We called in Friday night sat in front lounge area 4 adults and a little dog, we had half kilo mussels in marinere sauce to share between myself and my brother in law my wife and her sister had soup roasted cauliflower looked and tasted fantastic. We had 2 hanging kebabs each with home made chips salad and 2 flatbreads with a selection of sauces our wife's had the chicken fajita on a hot plate with selection of hot vegetables 😋. If that wasn't enough we finished by sharing home made cheesecake lemon and lime for us and white chocolate and raspberry for our sister and brother in law with a side of ice-cream we all drank soft drinks and the bill including the 2 sausages for our dog was £104 an absolute bargain and so well presented the service was excellent and friendly we can't wait to go back.

Canal Tavern, Thorne for tea tonight. We ate off the new menu and it was delicious. Booking is required as it is very busy at teatime. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Never had a bad meal here. Reasonably priced menu and something for everyone. Buttermilk chicken, red cabbage slaw, 🌽 corn bread and skin on fries 😋

Just dropped in for family meal.... one of the best decisions we've ever made, fantastic homemade food to order which everyone throughly enjoyed! What an amazing turnround Ian and Yvonne and Nicola have made during in the pandemic. Lovely colours and vibrant, so welcoming. As a full time wheelchair user, access is a little awkward at the front. To eat past the bar the staff have to open the function room door at the side, so you can get to the tables in the rear.the food is good, but the booze is very expensive!, the food is a little overpriced, and the service is not quick, the staff are friendly enough, and try and help, nice place to sit outside near the canal.

We've been to the Canal Tavern quite a few times and been very satisfied so we decided to go again today, we had to wait three quarters of an hour to get our food, mum wanted fish but they had sold out so she opted for the chicken which was really over done and dry, we mentioned it to the waitress but we received no response from anyone, our other meals were lovely but upsetting for mum as she doesn't get out that often and was looking forward to an outing
